Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Definitely very corporate feeling - you will be surrounded by mid-to-late-career lawyer and banker types, which may or may not be your type of crowd. I like this place since the quality of food is good and the service is attentive. It's also very close to work. I am especially a huge fan of their Wed and Friday $1 oyster deals. Unlike most other places you can order the oysters individually instead of by dozen. If you order 2 alcoholic drinks or more, you also get free food from their little buffet. It has a lot of goodies like small sandwiches, bbq ribs, chicken wings, and pasta salad etc. It's a great place to hang out and unwind after work, with some drinks and food.

I think this restaurant has a case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde going on....or in other words, a split personality. Our group recently dined here before the Book of Mormon, and at times we were blow away impressed, and at others we were let down and disappointed. First the good: we had a reservation and the hostess called us to confirm, and inform us that they were pretty booked up and with the NFL draft going on make sure we're on time so they can get us to our show on time. Good service, right? Then there was our server - he was super nice and bubbly and attentive. Then there were (some) of our drinks - my one friend said his jamo/ginger was made nice and strong the way he likes it. Then there's (some) of the food - the pasta dishes we ordered were to die for - highly recommend the Tortellini Carbonara and the lobster ravioli, though I think the latter may have been a special. Now Mr Hyde comes in: remember the "helpful" hostess confirming our reservation? The place was half empty when we arrived, so not sure what she meant by fully booked. And that server? He was kinda quirky and kept saying "jay-moooo" in a weird voice anytime anyone ordered one, also didnt allow the lady at the table to order first, and forgot a round of cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, remember the strong ones? The 'specialty' drinks such as the Rosebudtini and vodka mule were weaker than my biceps. And that great food! Yeah, don't order steaks from here - the t-bones were tough as leather, and the filet was bad, too. Some good, some bad, but for downtown dining this place didn't live up to the Rosebud name. Darn that Mr. Hyde....

I really enjoyed my experience at the Rosebud Theater District. It was a Thursday night and were on our way to see The Book of Mormon. When we got there the place was empty, so we decided not to be concerned. It turns out we didn't need to be, because the staff was very attentive to our time restriction and did their best to get our food out in a timely manner. I got the Chicken Scaloppini which was very very tasty. I though the penne marinara it came with lacked a little flavor, but the main dish was great. My favorite part of the meal was the dessert. The Godiva chocolate mousse cake was amazing, literally heaven in my mouth. I would go again next time I go the Bank of America Theater to see a play. It was a pretty good experience.

We were a little pressed for time prior to attending the theatre because of heavy traffic, which caused us to be about 20 minutes late for our party of 6 This was not a problem for Rosebud. They were calm, even though we were worried, and said that we would have plenty of time to have dinner. Our order for drinks and food was taken and served promptly. I had the roast chicken with lemon and roasted potatoes. It was delicious and I cannot wait to go back again for with wonderful dish! The entire staff was very professional and accommodating at the same time. I would definitely recommend this restaurant whether attending the theatre or just an enjoyable dinner.

Great Italian restaurant for Loop business dinners and theater district goers. Amazing food and service. I dined here many time and will continue to do so. Great pasta dishes and salads!
(4)Jennessa L.
Server was a bit timid and seemed confused. Entree was average, not worth taking the leftovers home. Wine List was impressive and that's about it. Location on Rush is much better. Had hoped for a better experience after an evening in the theatre dist.

What a great lunch place. We had the vegetarian chopped salad and the grilled salmon salad. They were fresh, crisp and wonderful. Service was spectacular. Convenient loop location.

My partner and I decided to go to the Rosebud for my first time, before we went to Kinky Boots this Tuesday. The ambiance was gorgeous and our waiter was welcoming. We ordered the special for Tuesday night, 6oz. Sirloin and 4 oz. lobster tail. The steaks we great but my lobster was undercooked and raw. My partner's lobster tasted fine. Our waiter took the lobster & said another would be out quickly. Ten minutes later we ask a waiter about the lobster. To steam a small lobster tail takes all of 4 minutes but I had to wait over 15 minutes to get one. By then I was done with my steak & mac-n-cheese and full. The timing really threw off the meal & it felt like our waiter abandon us because large parties were coming in around 6:30 pm. Everyone has an off night but they didn't deliver on their reputation and service for me.

A group of 7 of us came at 5:30pm on New Years Eve recently. The restaurant was dimly lit, and pretty quiet. 5:30 is kind of early for dinner, so I would imagine that this place gets quite crowded a little later in the evening. The server was attentive to our group and it wasn't hard to track him down. There were a lot of great sounding options on the regular menu, but I opted to try the lobster ravioli special. I like trying lobster ravioli/lobster pasta dishes at different restaurants in order to compare them. I was a little disappointed with the lobster ravioli dish to be honest. I like vegetables, but the peas and green beans did not taste fresh at all and it was kind of a turn off. The sauce and lobster ravioli itself was good though. My overall experience at Rosebud on New Years Eve was very enjoyable, but if I came in the future I would get a dish with less/no vegetables.

I wanted to try a new Italian spot in the loop for lunch, and found this to be the perfect opportunity as my coworker requested Italian food for her birthday lunch. We were seated shortly after our change of minus 2 people who couldn't make it. Our waiter was so professional, I'm not sure any other way to describe him. He was great with the recommendation letting me know that the special vodka pasta was a much heartier meal, which is what I ended up deciding on. I was very happy with this choice, and thought that the portions were extremely generous. The prices were reasonable, and I'd surely like to come back.

Pros: 1. High quality of food 2. Good service 3. Cool atmosphere 4. Excellent location 5. Decent price compared to other places Cons: 1. Very noisy; will only be suitable for certain occasions 2. Can be hard to get a reservation
(4)Carrie M.
Horrible experience from the time we arrived! The host asked us if we could be finished in a certain amount of time as they had a lot of reservations. Mind you, the restaurant maybe had 2 tables filled when we arrived. The waiter treated us like we were riff-raff although we were nicely dressed & did not give any indication to believe otherwise. The food was slightly overpriced & mediocre. I also lost my credit card & when I called the restaurant a female host told me they were too busy to look but asked for my information. That was quite rude! I have been to the Rosebud's on Taylor & Rush & this was a far different experience which is disappointing to say the least. I definitely will dine elsewhere when in the theater district.

Wanted to start off by saying that I come here almost every day for lunch and its AMAZING!. Outside of my regular day job, I am chairman of the board of the Holiday Heroes Foundation. I host all my charity meetings here at Rosebud each day at lunch for the most part. Each and every day my expectations are surpassed, the food is excellent, the service is superb, and they have one of the cities top general managers in George. This is the ultimate business lunch destination spot Our waiter Tim makes our experience special every day for us. I turn my head for a second and waiting for me is a diet coke refill. Cannot say enough good things about TIM, GEORGE, and the entire crew present at the restaurant

Though in a business building, the restaurant atmosphere was unexpectedly warm, modern and simple. Agree with Cookie M's review : 1. High quality of food 2. Good service 3. Cool atmosphere 4. Excellent location 5. Decent price compared to other places We had reservations at 5:30 for a 7:30 show on a Tuesday. Not too busy or noisy - perfect. I can see how it could get very busy/noisy so be prepared. Best of all was our waiter Vinnie- his real name. So very professional, warm, kind, patient, smart. GREAT with his customers. GREAT service. Constant attention. Such a pleasure to receive top shelf service. I'd hire Vinnie in a heartbeat if I was still in business. And finally, Rosebud has yet to disappoint - Great Food everytime - huge portions - so take care ordering.
(5)Sarah D.
It's always very loud in here, and lunch service is on the slow side, but the waiters are friendly and the food is consistent. A nice alternative to fast casual chains.
(3)Hari B.
I really like Rosebud. I have eaten at the Naperville location and the Theater District. Both are good. The Naperville location has a booming pizza business going on as well. The theater district location is a little fancier. The food is great and the portions are huge and the pricer are reasonable. The service is prompt and friendly. The eggplant pamesean is outstanding and so are the pasta dishes. They seem to have many locations, if you are in Chicago and looking for good Italian food and a friendly restaurant to walk into - I recommend you try Rosebud.

We went here for dinner on a Friday night. It was around 7:30 and they were super busy until 8 because there was a show. The food here definitely deserves a five, but I am giving it a four because our waiter was a little slow and not as attentive as he should have been. We split a lobster bisque and calamari which were both delicious. The bread was unbelievably good! We split an amazing steak and potatoes and each had a glass of Malbec. The Malbec was so great. This was the second time that we were here and we will definitely come back. It is such a great date place with a romantic feel.

After years of coming to Rosebuds on Madison I have nevered felt so disappointed or disgusted in my life. Today I got off of work rushed to come get m6 favorite chicken noodle soup that is served on Tuesdays only. I come so much that my order is already in the system. Majority of the staff knows me. But today in particular there were some new faces. I came in asked for one of the servers I normally go to but he had a big party. So I made a mistake and thought that this other waiter had took my order and said yes he has taken my order before but that I would rather go in the section of my normal server. Big mistake..... So the manager sat me down and I'm thinking that I'm in the server section that I wanted and ended up in the replacement waiters section. Who was rude, very wired like he was high off something. He hardly let me or my guest get a word in. I told the general manager Joe Leopold about how bad the service was and instead of him apologizing he starts yelling at me about how its my fault for the bad service. He has no kind of respect for long time customers who has spent excellent money here. My mother has done a lot of business lunch and dinners here and this is the thanks that we get. To be treated like dirt especially by the general manager is unacceptable and not tolerated. Never got my food, we left and will never return again. As residents of the downtown community I won't ever suggest this place again and will definitely be taking my money else where. To a place where I can be treated with excellent customer service or at least try to meet the needs of customers. Very pissed

This is a good restaurant for company dinners but be aware of the noises if you are taking a loud group. I ordered the salmon, scallop, potato and asparagus dish. It was very good but everything was swimming in an orange oil that was drizzled over my meal. The calamari was good.
(3)Mit B.
Got linguini with clams in white sauce. This was a thrifty man version: huge chewy clams cooked in advance and then minced, with little to no liquid. ($16) This I can live with. Sand (and plenty of it) on my teeth I cannot. Disgusting! A fellow diner got chicken Vesuvio with four wedges of roasted potato. The potato was raw inside. Is there a chef in that kitchen?

I've been to this Rosebud several times, and I always leave satisfied. The hostess staff is cordial and smart. Dining room attendants are quick to fill water glasses and remove finished plates. Servers are knowledgable of the food, how it's prepared, and wines that pair accordingly. The fact that they plate appetizers for large parties is greatly appreciated too. All the while, managers navigate the room, check on guests, and assist staff when needed. Most importantly, the food is outstanding. My favorite dishes to order are the chopped salad, caprese salad, chicken marsala, and salmon oreganato. The freshness and flavor stand out and on no account fail to impress. In short, the teamwork at Rosebud Theater District is commendable, and the food is never short of perfect.

My boyfriend and I went here before a play and were able to make a reservation the day of. We were in and out within an hour, which was perfect. Our waiter was super pleasant and gave recommendations. I'm always a fan of free bread with olive oil and Parmesan cheese - so that was great! Our meal portions were huge - enough for 2-3 meals. My boyfriend had the Chicken Parmesan and I had the Shells with Broccoli and Sausage. I loved my dish, and my boyfriend did as well - he would have just preferred a little bit more pasta. We even saved room for dessert and went with the chocolate mousse cake - that easily could have fed 4 people. It was delicious! I would definitely go back and recommend it, especially before a show in the Theater district.
(5)Magen R.
I came here for happy hour with some old coworkers and had a great time. When I arrived I was only planning on having a couple of beers but then found out about their awesome happy hour buffet. Little did I know that a purchase of two drinks opens up a world of yummy snacks! They had everything from pasta salad to rib tips to wings to fried goodies. Having skipped over lunch that day this amazing app buffet was just what the doctor ordered! I was also really pleased with their drinks and the pricing, very affordable for a loop happy hour. Finally, the service and ambiance were impeccable. Definitely worth a happy hour trip!
(4)Jennifer L.
Rosebud always has delicious food but the best part of our experience at this location was the service. Top notch. Our waiter did not miss a beat - drink refills as soon as we finished and food came in timely manor for the play we were attending. Highly recommend as a pre-show dinner.
(5)Jeff V.
Everyone's meal was really great. Quality of food was exceptional. Portions are very very generous if your hungry.
(5)Matt M.
Ive felt uncomfortable before, but not this much in a long time. We were the last table in the restaurant which I hate to be, but we were. None-the-less I could feel the waiters frustration and it was also made quite visible. He paced, he grunted, he made noises. I honestly felt like the kid in a candy shop that is run by some old bafoon that thinks every kid is in their to steal so he stares them down, makes noises, and tells them to buy or get out. Eitherway I was eye-murdered enough that I'll not be returning here. Extra star for decent food.

First of all, trying to find the valet parking for this location is annoying as hell. I had to call the restaurant twice just to get someone to tell me where the entrance to the valet was because why would it be in front of the restaurant? FYI: You need to enter the valet on Dearborn, which is a one-way going south, so you'll likely end up circling the Chase Bank Building a few times before you get the hang of it. Also, there's a Rosebud in this office building kiddie corner from the Rosebud Prime? It seems a bit odd to me, but that's fine. Valet is $11.99 or $20 (flat rate) for 3+ hours (which is nice if you're going to a show). They have a good "wines by the glass" list, with several selections under $10. Their pours are weak, though, so you'll end up having a few glasses and not even getting close to downing a bottle. Full bar available, so you can order to your heart's content. No beers on tap, which sucks, and they're all pretty pricey. The menu is pretty standard Italian fare at outrageous prices. There is no pasta dish (sans meat) under $15. Yikes. My mom ordered the steak and lobster special for an outrageous $45 and said the steak wasn't very tender or cooked well. C'mon, the cut of meat should at least be good for that price. My pasta was probably the only good thing about the meal since it had jalapeno marinara sauce. My husband's ravioli were pretty decent but, again, super expensive. I'll likely never come back here. It's convenient if you're seeing a show nearby, but there's other dinner options so I'd choose one of those. Or, I'd go to a late dinner in another neighborhood after a show. Skip Rosebud Theater District if you can.
(2)Rosanna L.
Loved it... the service and food were great! Love the steak salad! We told the waiter we were there celebrating our 10-year anniversary and he surprised us with a beautiful dessert!
(5)Emily C.
Have recently had lunch and dinner at this location. Both times the food was very good and the service was excellent. I had a great salad for lunch and a perfectly cooked steak for dinner. We came before a show and they were really good about making sure we got out in time. They also have a great happy hour where if you buy 2 drinks, you can help yourself to their appetizer bar. When we were there, they had wings, nachos, fried eggplant. Great starters. Service in the bar area wasn't as great. 297/365
(4)Dana R.
My co-workers and I came here for Administraive Professionals Day to celebrate. The atmosphere is classy and very nice. Our table shared appetizers of the "Calamari Fitti" which was good. For my entree I ordered the "Tortellini Carbonara' and it was AMAZING!! All of my co-workers who had ordered steak, were throwing curious and jealous glances at my dish. I gleefully mmm'd and shared my bites with whoever wanted one. The portion was huge, so I was able to take some of this deliciousness home for leftovers. Score!

Since I work in the financial district in the heart of downtown Chicago, I've been privy to a handful of business-related meals. Rosebud has several locations in and around the city; this was my third visit to this location when I came here recently to meet some friends before a theater show. My first visit was when i was fresh out of college and I worked in the Morgan Stanley offices in the same building as an intern. The visit was my "farewell dinner". The second time was a business dinner with UBS. The most common thing that I remember from my earlier visits was that the food was average but the service was excellent. On this particular occasion it was pretty much the same. The group that I was with had a large dinner buffet and a section of the restaurant reserved for us. We were served meatballs, cheese, chicken, pizzas, etc....standard bar food. The meatballs were great but the rest of the food was OK. I had a business lunch a few years ago at another Rosebud location in the city; I find it odd that that location had much better food with the same amount of great service. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, but only as a way to kick back and relax for happy hour after a long day at work.
(3)Michelle K.
I have never had the desire to go to Rosebud, but I had a meeting in the building upstairs so I decided to try it out for lunch afterwards. I ordered the Salmon Salad and it was one of the best salads I ever had. The salmon was cooked perfectly it melted in my mouth. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the service was VERY slow.
(4)Katie W.
What a wonderful experience we had at Rosebud. They had a children's menu available, but we just ordered from the main menu for my daughter. The hostess even brought over a coloring book for her, which was above and beyond what we expected. The calamari was amazing, perfectly prepared and a very generous portion. I loved my veal and the fettuccine alfredo was lovely.
(5)Jennifer S.
I went to Rosebud for lunch and I had the mussels appetizer as an entree. The presentation was amazing and the mussels were delicious. I hadn't had mussels since I moved from the New England coast last year, and these satisfied my craving. The service was excellent and friendly. I recommend this place!
(4)Shawn B.
Loved it. So many scallops, muscles, and shrimp you just can't eat it all and still have room for the pasta.
(3)Erika G.
Great place for drinks after working downtown. Good "by the glass" wine list, a lively bar and a FREE BUFFET! Yes . . . FREE BUFFET! Hello, dinner.
(4)David A.
Great location from the theater. A little pricey of a meal, but had good specials. I will say I was glad that the service had been done by more than one person
(4)Helen H.
This place is about average I think. Decor is nice but normal. Not really any personality. Service... This guy really got pissed at us for not deciding on things quickly. Not very nice. Food- decent. I wouldn't say anything was amazing- again, average. Price- normal- nothing terrible. 8 people and two bottles of wine- about 21 bucks/person. Very reasonable. Won't be going back as I didn't think there was anything special.
(3)Cay K.
Go to Rosebud Theater District if you want to hate yourself and everyone around you.
(1)Dale S.
First time at Rosebud and it was excellent! Staff were very attentive, to the point that our water glasses never even were close to half empty. We ordered two appetizers for the four of us. Wait staff brought the four plates and offered to divide the appetizers between us. Entrees arrived in a very timely manner. We were able to eat, look over the dessert menu, have a nice conversation and never felt we were being rushed. All four entrees were great. Prices were very reasonable, especially considering we were right in the midst of downtown. Thanks! Will definitely return.
(5)Dania D.
i enjoyed an amazing birthday dinner here with my husband and friends...everything was superb from the service to the ambience to the food...we were not rushed and instead allowed to enjoy the delicious food and wine...everything i put in my mouth that day was amazing from the calamari appetizer and caprese salad to my husband's steak to the seafood & pasta platter i shared with my friend....probably one of the most delicious and enjoyable birthday dinners i have ever had....i would definitely love to eat here again next time i'm in chicago.
(5)Jon C.
They still have a great buffet that is complimentary with a two drink purchase. You'd be surprised how intense that actual buffet is too. They have pizza, cheese sticks, wings, sandwiches, chips & salsa, cheese, olives, and I believe that they switch it up daily. Definitely worth it when in the loop on a weekday and you would like some quick chow.
(4)Sarah B.
The restaurant is okay, but since they stopped with the white tableclothes, it seems less fancy--but with the same prices. The food is decent and I've always found the salads ample. The takeout is convenient and fast but certainly not the cheapest out there--$8-15. There are better fancy lunch spots and takeout places, so feel free to skip this one.
(2)Erin R.
A very good work lunch spot. It was raining last week and me and a couple of my co-workers/friends wanted a sit down lunch. We stopped in here and were seated right away during the lunch rush. I just wanted something simple so I wouldn't pass out at my desk so I got the minestrone soup and caprese salad. Normally minestrone is not my first pick in soup however I have to say this was delicious flavorful and filling. My caprese was huge. I love beefsteak tomatoes! i could only eat half. Can't wait to come back! Just wish I could sneak in some vino.
(4)Tiffany K.
after shopping on state and walking back home, my bf and i stopped by rosebud for dinner. i had the rigatoni la rosetta which is rigatoni with chicken, asparagus and tomatoes in garlic sauce. HUGE PORTION! well worth the price and it was yumtastic. =) my boyfriend had veal parmigiana. two huge slices of veal smothered in marinara sauce. it came with a side of rigatoni pasta with marinara sauce. a little too much marinara if you ask me but my bf liked it. we finished our food but we were about to explode by the time we were done. i was actually full halfway but it was so good, i kept on eating. service was awesome and i will be back some day soon..
(4)Eileen S.
Perfect for before-theater dining. Service was polite, prompt & attentive. Food was good & we got to the Cadillac Palace in plenty of time for the show.
(4)Molly L.
I came here for a pre-theatre dinner, and I liked that they were very conscientious of our show time, but the food was just OK. There are plenty of places in Chicago with better Italian food. If you're looking for a quick, convenient pre-theatre dinner, try Rosebud Theatre District, but don't expect your taste buds to fall in love.
(2)becki s.
YUP the rumors are true. You spend $10 on drinks during happy hour and you are getting the best free appetizer buffet in the city. Packed with lovely wonderful tasty things like ribs, hot wings, pizza and pasta. If i could recommend one thing here, they have these balls...i don't have any idea what they are called, but you dip them in marinara sauce, and wow...yes, try them It gets very busy here after work hours so be prepared to stand around with your drink in one hand balancing your full plate of goodies in another waiting for someone to leave their table. But, by all means, try the balls...

I have a Short Shameful Confession (SSC): I love chili. You know how some of your smart-ass friends respond w/ "Well, why don't you MARRY it?" when you tell them you love something? Well, I'd seriously consider marrying the chili at Rosebud Express if it weren't for that fascist state law banning human-chili marriages. It's the hottest non-chili-cookoff chili you can buy in the loop. Purists may balk at the beans in this chili but I personally give that a pass considering how good the chili actually is.
(4)Sam K.
One of the worst restaurant experiences ever. Horrible service, horrible food. First, when we were seated, one of the four side plates that was on our table was disgusting and greasy and covered with bread crumbs - there was a dirty and used plate there! When the waiter came to take our order, I showed him the plate, honestly expecting a complimentary drink or ar at least a profuse apology. But he said "Oh, don't worry about it. I can take that in a minute." Don't worry about it? He was acting like I had done something and was apologizing, or that I had asked him to do something extra for me. Like I was incoveniencing him by noticing the used plate I was expected to eat off of. He was generally rude and stupid as hell. It took us forever to order because each time we said something, he would cut us off and say the name of the dish he thought we were ordering - only it would be the wrong one. Every time one of us said something, he interrupted us. I asked him a yes or no question about the dish I ordered "Is the ricotta dumpling a gnocchi?" and got a five minute explanation about how it's not like your ordinary pasta, and how it's not filled with anything, and that it's based on tomatoes. He probably meant potatoes, but he was dumb. So I asked him again "So basically it's a cheese gnocchi, right?" "No, it doesn't have any cheese in it - it's not a filled pasta like a tortellini. You can't fill it with anything." Okay, so clearly the moron doesn't know what ricotta is or what a gnocchi is. And instead of admitting it he decided to just say a bunch of words. "Okay, I'll just get that. Also, I want extra veggies in it - I'll pay extra or whatever. Can you do that? "Actually, the dish doesn't come with any vegetables. Just a cheese sauce." "But it says here it comes with beans and roasted bell peppers and baby greens. And it doesn't say anything about a cheese sauce." "Okay, we can do that." The fact that he was dumb as hell would have been forgivable if he wasn't impatient and abrupt and rude. The olive oil that came with the bread was delicious. When he was at our table serving us water, my friend joked to him about stealing the olive oil. Not only did he not smile - he just grabbed the bottle of olive oil off our table and walked away without saying a word. We hadn't even finished serving the oil on our plates yet. Unbelievable. I could give more details about his awful and rude service the rest of the night, but it would take too long. So, the food: My dish, which supposedly had the extra vegetables for which they charged me, barely had any vegetables at all. The "ricotta dumplings" were chewy and tough and dry. Obviously not made fresh. Here's a little lesson on cooking green veggies. When you heat up a green vegetable, it releases an enzyme which dulls the color of the vegetable. However, if the temperature is high enough, that enzyme degrades and the veggie keeps its bright green beautiful color. Hence the school cafeteria puke colored green beans- they look like that because they've been cooked at a low temperature for a long time. The green beans at Rosebud are of the same gross color and mushy, disgusting consistency. The roasted red peppers were canned. That's right. I once worked in a sandwich shop where we sold $5 sandwiches, and we roasted out own peppers. Not only did Rosebud serve us canned roasted red peppers, but they didn't even rinse the storage liquid from them, so the whole dish had that canned taste in it. I couldn't taste any sauce at all - no basil, no discernable seasoning whatsoever. It just tasted like oil. That's all I could taste. The fact that I spent $16 plus $2 for the supposed extra veggies on this disgusting mess was unacceptable. I mean, I know pasta is overpriced. A box of pasta is less than a dollar, and a pasta dish at a restaurant probably has at the most $3 worth of ingredients in it. I accept that. But the fact that it also tasted like shit and was cooked badly is just beyond forgivable. I also couldn't taste either the espresso or rum in the tiramisu. I could barely even taste chocolate. It just tasted like sugar. Such a disappointing meal. At least my friends were able to make a joke out of the whole awful experience. By the end of the meal we were just sitting there laughing about how much the whole meal sucked. We probably antogonized our retarded waiter even more, but whatever. Thank god for good company.

I made a reservation for a pre-theater dinner and was glad I did as the room was packed by the time I arrived with a friend at 6.45. Nonetheless John, our waiter, was tableside within a minute of our sitting down at the back of the room. Even with a table of ten on his radar he took time to greet us warmly and tell us about the specials. The menu was a rather large card which managed to clear the low ceiling when held upright but rendered one's dining partner invisible. Luckily it didn't take long for me to see something appetizing to eat- their chicken Vesuvio ($17) which I recalled favorably from lunches of long ago. A shrimp cocktail ($13) sounded good too. It was either that or the bowl of minestrone for $4 but as I was going to order a glass of Pinot Grigio ($12) I thought the shrimp the better compliment. Across the table a pre-theater special of baked ziti, including a spinach salad for $17 was currying favor. John came back to take our order and offered to answer any questions we might have. He brought with him a basket of warm crusty bread and some olive oil/parmesan. The wine and iced tea followed within two minutes so no complaints about the service, even though the place was swamped with customers including the needy table of ten, possibly on an annual Loud Talker Society dinner, some of the words beginning with the letter F. The fresh warm crusty bread dipped in the oil and cheese kept us entertained for the ten minutes it took for the shrimp cocktail bowl to arrive. Alas the spinach salad didn't join it so we both nibbled on the shrimp which were four in number and fresh in flavor. Each clung to the side of the bowl like survivors in a life raft and were accompanied by four lemon slices. Somewhere in the depths of the large 8 inch bowl was a bed of lettuce buried under a pond of cocktail sauce. I was expecting more a small martini glass presentation and felt bad that most of the ingredients were destined for the bins in the alley at the rear. Food costs or wastage obviously not an issue there. The spinach salad was brought forth and was again, a huge portion of greens, tomato and croutons which were so tasty they were assumed to be made in-house. Portion was extravagant in that it was included in the entree. Over-generous which is not really a fault. There was a fifteen minute hiatus between courses which we occupied in conversation, although the din in the restaurant made semaphore more appropriate. We carry small flags for this purpose so no problem there. I would say that at this time of evening-before 8pm the restaurant is not a good place for a romantic date, but after the theater crowds go it would be just fine. John, rushed off his feet, as were all the staff, did come by occasionally to update us on the progress of our entrees as he knew we had to keep an eye on the time. With 20 minutes to spare we got our main courses and tucked in with gusto. No complaints about the food, served piping hot and tasting fresh and as advertised. It's not Spiaggia, nor do the prices suggest it should be. Portions again were generous. I drank one glass of wine and wasn't encouraged to have another so ended up with a bill just shy of $70 for two. The service was worthy of a 20% tip. We made our curtain, well fed, and will return to Rosebud no doubt.

Safe choice for a weekday lunch. Pretty decent pastas, in predictably super-sized portions. Calamari is always a bit soggy and off, as are the sandwiches. Stick with the pasta and you'll be content. A side note - can get extremely loud if you sit inside the restaurant rather than in the "atrium" of the 70 W. Madison building. Something to keep in mind if you're planning on conversation.

This is a great restaurant tucked away in an office building. This is in the theater district so Rosebud close by if you're catching a show at the nearby theaters. We stopped in before Dirty Dancing and had a nice dinner before the show. I had the special that night, tilapia with capers, black olives, tomatoes over penne pasta. The fish was done well and it was a big portion! I would have never thought to serve fish with pasta but Rosebud is an Italian restaurant. The other popular dishes were baked ziti, chicken Marcela and breaded chicken over arugula. The service was decent and our waiter was friendly. I will probably go back if I'm in the area for another show!

I've been here a couple of times with co-workers and the food is not that great. I've gotten the chicken sandwich and the meat ravioli. The food was just ehhhh... nothing great. I thought the ravioli was really pricey and the amount was super small. However, they do have good service and the servers are very friendly. I would not go back because it's too $$$ and just not worth it.

What can you say about Rosebud? It is what it is, either out in the burbs or downtown. I have taken loop clients here several times. I like the simple menu choices at lunch. Last time I had the steak sandwich with hot Giardiniera on it. If Giardiniera topping isn't a Chicago staple I do not know what is.
(4)Becky R.
I've been to Rosebud Theatre District numerous times for business lunches. The food is always good and I have no serious complaints except that sometimes the pasta isn't as warm as I would like it to be. My faves: steak salad (steak done just right over a bed of lettuce, peppercorns, blue cheese, roasted red peppers, and tomatoes), rigatoni alla vodka (they'll add chicken, asparagus, and/or broccoli), calamari (ENORMOUS portion, so split!!), chicken vesuvio, chicken parmigiana I had the minestrone soup for the first time today. It was chock full of veggies, pasta, and beans. It had a little kick, too, which was nice. The olive oil is of really high quality, too.

Pricey for lunch, but the perfect place for taking clients on an expense account lunch. I always get the Cavatelli al Forno, tasty as all get out, and is actually enough for about 3 meals for me. Light and fluffy cheesy goodness. Good bread, very fresh salads, reservations honored - a very, very appreciated touch. Service can be touch and go, but is probably better in off hours when the wait staff isn't so slammed. My clients always love it - it is no La Gondola, but very serviceable Italian in the loop. We'll see how Rosebud Prime across the street shapes up - I have my first lunch meeting scheduled there next week.

I'll give you one hellz yeah for the Rosebud Express. While the fare is on the pricier end of the spectrum, you always get your money's worth. The sheer amount of food they give you is enough to induce a food coma, unless you're smart enough to save some for another meal. Not to mention its absolutely delicious. Whenever I cant decide what I want, I get their Cobb salad, although I have never been offended by anything I've gotten. They offer a typical "Italian American" lunch accompanied by four varying specials every day. Usually a fish, a sandwich, an entree, and a salad. They also offer a breakfast menu, and their sammiches are pretty dang good. I also am always greeted with a smile and their cook staff seems competent as they have never messed up when I have asked for substitutions. Seriously, the place is really good. I've worked at my job for 2 years and my boss gets their Minestrone at least 3 times a week... and has for probably over a year. Which means either Rosebud Express is either really good, or my boss is really really boring. And I don't want to get fired, so I'll go with my first sentiment.
(4)Wendy S.
Oh... even though it's in my building and I could choose to go there just for the easiness of it. This is not why I go. With this new vegetarian (attempted vegan) liftestyle I've chosen, their small tossed salad made into a wrap is DELISH. Not only do they add avocado, garbanzo beans (and any other veggie that I want), it doesn't cost anything extra. These wraps make me very, very happy.

I agree that this place is basically a 3.5 star restaurant in a city with so many excellent Italian options. Service is adequate. Food is good but nothing special by general Chicago standards. However, it's location in the Loop (something of a blackhole for Italian, as evidenced by the success of some very poor restaurants) warrants an additional 1/2 star IMO. Besides, Yelp doesn't let us do half-stars.
(4)Heather M.
Rosebud is a great restaurant in terms of food, service, and, well everything. I've been here a few times, it's location is so convenient-I've been after work and before seeing a show. During my last visit, our waitress recommended a meal based on what I was deciding between, and it was exactly what I was looking for. She also noticed that it was my birthday and brought out a delicious chocolate mousse! Rosebud is a must when you're in the loop, and especially before a show!
(5)Katie R.
Perfect location for a pre-theater meal. I've been here a few times, and while the Vodka sauce can be a bit runny, overall the food is always, always delicious. Caesar salad was delicious. Rigatoni alla vodka is one of my favorite pasta dishes of all time (available at all the Rosebud locations although the sauce does vary. Last night was spot-on though, cheesy, tomatoy, thick and delicious). And Godiva mousse cake to finish it up? Yum. The seating can be weird and drafty (it sort of trails into the lobby of the building it is located in) so wear warm clothes.

Not a great experience. Came here for dinner after a concert at Chicago Theater. A customer stood next to our table yelling at Manager because two walk-ins were seated before his party even though he had reservations. Took forever for someone to take our order. Our food arrived in a reasonable time but sat on a side table for 5 minutes before some served it. Of course, it was cold and the Chicken Marsala had absolutely no taste - it was like they forgot the Marsala and any seasoning. I make better at home. Another waiter got into argument with his table and dropped the f-bomb in front of my 8 and 12 year old as he stormed away. My wife confronted the manager and waiter about it, the manager looked like a deer in headlights and could only offer a halfhearted apology, but at least the waiter seemed embarrassed. Had to wait 10 minutes when we asked for bill and after 10 minutes waiting for someone to take it, eventually just walked to the bar and to pay. I've been to this location before for lunch and had a good experience. I would expect a restaurant with this reputation to do better, but perhaps they just had an off night and were understaffed. Our experience at other Rosebud locations has been far superior to this one. Not sure if I'll try dinner here again on a weekend.

I've eaten at a lot of Italian restaurants. Rosebud is about middle of the road. We ate off the Restaurant Week prix-fixe menu. I had the rigatoni with vodka sauce and a house salad. Both were fine. Good, but not spectacular. The complimentary bread and olive oil was okay, but the bread wasn't cut all the way through and was pretty tough to tear apart. I think we ended up mangling most our loaf. I also noticed that our waiter did not offer me a second glass of wine. I didn't NEED the second glass, but most servers at least offer it. Instead, almost as soon as the glass was empty the busboy swooped in and removed it from the table and it was never discussed again. The gelato we had for dessert was wonderful and there was A LOT of it. Way too much for one person. My biggest complaint was how loud it got in the restaurant. We could barely hear ourselves speak by the end of our meal. If the hostess had given us the option (which she didn't) to sit "outside" (also known as in the lobby of the office building) we would have chosen that. It was much quieter out there. I like to be able to have a conversation with my dining companion(s) when I go out. It was a little difficult to do that here.
(3)Katie P.
I've eaten at the restaurant and the express take-out. I had good service at both places (I only eat there during lunch hours). The prices may be high, but especially downtown and for the quality of food, I don't find it unreasonable. They have a killer caesar salad - love the dressing. The great thing about rosebud is you don't have to question the quality either. The decor may not "stand out", but its nice and decently upscale.
(5)Ang R.
Great food, if a limited menu. The only reason to eat at this particular location is if you're going to a show. Otherwise, you're better off at Rush or Taylor, which has these same items, and then some. There's always the Rigatoni ala Vodka, the old standby, delicious no matter what. But the meat dishes are excellent, and the salads are fantastic as well. It's really the appetizers that suffer at this location; I don't think any of them are much worth ordering. Still, it's convenient to the theater, and it's consistently good. You can't go wrong if you're needing a pre-theater meal.

Once upon a time there was an urban princess named Kara who lived in a land where there was plentiful, delicious Italian food. Kara only visited those restaurants on special occasions because if she went too often, she would be 300 lbs. But one day she and a few friends decided to meet at the evil restaurant, Rosebud, to celebrate their friend's new job. The mean old restaurant tempted her taste buds with culinary delights such as bread with olive oil and parmesan cheese; stuffed mushrooms swimming in a rich, garlic sauce; and lobster ravioli topped with marinara, sauteed spinach and red peppers. She even sampled some of her friend's chicken parmesan. As she gulped down the last of her pinot grigio and pushed her plate away, she felt satisfied but guilty at the same time. Kara hung her head in shame as the Evil Rosebud cackled maniacally in the background and sent his evil servant back over to offer her an enticing dessert. Kara opened her mouth to say yes but stopped before the words came out. She slapped herself, reached into her purse and pulled out the potent willpower elixir that her skinny friend, Skinny BItch, concocted just for her. She drank it down, looked that server in the eye and said, "No thank you." The end. Moral of the story: Rosebud offers up delicious food in a classy setting with an attentive, albeit aloof waitstaff. I really love this restaurant but can only visit once a year.
(4)Diane C.
Good wine. Moderate prices. Mediocre food. I suspect it's very consistent, but not intriguing enough to garner a return visit. Far from excellent. My friend's "Medium Rare" steak was very overcooked. But otherwise, just uninspired, uninteresting.

I wish there were a way to do half stars on here.... We went here on a Friday night, the night of Looptopia. We were just walking around looking for a place to eat and wound up here. Although it looked crowded at first, we were able to get a table right away. The first thing I noticed is how incredibly loud it was there. It was pretty impossible to hold a conversation. The service wasn't all that great. I'm a stickler for having my water refilled and that didn't happen as often as it should have. They completely forgot to bring the salad that my husband ordered. They were obviously busy so I cut them some slack but it seems a place like this is busy quite often so they should be able to address that problem so that service isn't lacking. My food, personally was just okay. I ordered the chicken parm and found that their marinara sauce was pretty bland. The portion was huge and there was a lot of cheese which is a good thing. More cheese=yummy in my tummy. Hubby ordered some pasta with broccoli and sausage. He liked it and recreated it at home later in the weekend. Our son had some pasta and asparagus and didn't complain. I can see how this would be a cool place for the younger, non-child bearing scene but I can't imagine it being a good date place with all the noise since a conversation is impossible. I imagine it's a convenient place to grab a bite before a show but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here to get Italian food. I've had better elsewhere, with better service.
(3)Wilt C.
One of the better spots for lunch in the Loop. Service is great and the food is consistently good. I would rate higher if not for the rude "We cannot seat you until your entire party is here". It's just two of us you mindless drone. I always ask for the manager and of course get seated. Jeez, figure it out!
(3)Ellie B.
Rosebud Express is one of my favorite spots in the Loop! While it's a bit on the pricier side for lunch, it's well worth it. Their omelets, chock full of fresh veggies and cheeses, are scrumptious! They're also fairly affordable. They also have a plethora of other savory breakfast treats, like french toast, on the menu. It's never a problem to get your omelet with egg whites either, which makes this girl one happy customer! Lunch is equally as mouth watering. The soups, salads and sandwiches never disappoint. I have yet to try the pasta, but I feel like that's bound to be excellent as well. Just a note: their fries remind me of shoestring potatoes. A throwback to Jay's shoestrings in my lunch almost! The service is always quick and the staff always courteous. I can't think of a single negative thing to say about this restaurant, and we all know how rarely that happens!
(5)Matthew A.
Had a nice dinner at Rosebud on a Thursday evening before heading over to a show. Place was just about full with early evening diners and theatre goers. I had a nice veal marsala which was tasty and it came with a small side of very average pasta. Overall there was nothing to complain about, yet not much to praise.
(3)Joyce F.
we went pretty late so there were only a few other parties in the place. the service was good. the bread with the oil and parm cheese was nice. i started with the caprese salad and it was enough to share. good taste with onion that i hadn't had before. i ordered the fish and it was good too. ate wayyy too much but worth it.
(4)Courtney B.
I made reservations here as part of "Restaurant Week" and thought it would be a nice treat before seeing a show at Goodman. This was a $32 pre-fixe menu they were offering. BORING. Nothing fun to choose from at all. We ended up ordering off the menu and getting something we wanted- filet. I also had the calamari which was really good but way too much. The steak was good, but it all came out so fast. You can tell they are used to quick turnovers. It was OK, but I did feel like we were being rushed a little. We were done with it all so fast that we had time to go grab a drink somewhere else before the show. It was just OK in my opinion- better choices out there for a pre-show meal.
(3)Dominic D.
The food is so so. Definitely not bad. They give you portions that are too large and, if you're getting pasta, the proportion of sauce to pasta is far too high. Other than that, service and atmosphere are pleasant.
(3)Cody Y.
Not a bad restaurant, but not what they try to sell themselves as. This is basically a half-step up from Olive Garden in a nice location. Worth eating at it if it's convenient, but I wouldn't go out of my way.
(3)Mariana P.
Sadly disappointing. Our wait staff new that we weren't going to the theater, so he basically put us last on the list, so it took forever to get our food out to us. The next day when I took out my leftovers, I discovered a giant hair in my pasta. NASTY. Overall, very disappointed since it is a little bit pricey. Won't be back.
(2)Barbie S.
Went here for dinner, shrimp scampi was overcooked, the waitress was rude.... parking was terrible. Very disappointing especially considering I have had completely the OPPOSITE experience at the Rosebud in downtown Naperville.
(2)Dee W.
Great location on Madison Street - parking's a bit tough but their food is worth it. There's a bar in the back and they also offer Rosebud Express, with both breakfast and lunch offerings for those pressed for time. Breakfast includes waffles, eggs and made-to-order omelets; lunch features salads, sandwiches and pasta.
(4)Bryant C.
Marginal Italian food. Decor could use updating. They put us at a tiny round table with 8 people. Talk about rubbing elbows.
(2)Elise H.
There are so many great restaurants in Chicago that it's hard to understand how bad and mediocre restaurants stay in business. I know that Rosebud is a old Chicago standby. But our experience at Rosebud's on Taylor and tonight at Rosebud's in the Theater District were so disappointing that I had to Yelp it. Let's see, the bread and olive oil was OK. So was the stuffed mushroom appetizer. My Caesar and my husband's chopped salads were fresh, but barely dressed. It was the main course that was the most disappointing. I selected something I can't remember the name of, but it was described as "squares" of pasta with a tomato and basil sauce, and I ordered a side of Italian sausage. The "squares" were about the size of a cocktail napkin; there was a pile of them (one on top of another on top of another) in about a two inch stack, and red sauce was poured over it. The pile of pasta was limp and tasteless. The sauce was decent, but nothing special. The sausage was a big disappointment; dry and not very flavorful. My husband's penne with tomato vodka sauce was also disappointing. As so often happens, the waiter checked in to see how we liked our meals as we were taking our first bites (before we had time to even give it any real attention), then he was out of sight. But it didn't take us long to come to the conclusion that the food's flavor and interest wasn't enough to warrant the calorie load. My dish had a small dent taken out of one side of the pasta stack, and I'd eaten half a sausage. My husband left more than half of his. We didn't expect to have the waiter make any adjustments (after all, we'd eaten the appetizer and salad and some of our food), but we did expect an offer of a dessert or coffee. To be fair, when he offered the dessert menu we said we weren't interested. But I'd like to have had some consoling words, anyway. He did ask about the uneaten food and we explained why we were disappointed, but his attitude was kind of "ah, you can't please everyone."

I've never had a better linguini & Clam before in my life...its soo good, I wanted to lick my clean plate. Everything was perfect. I was visiting my best friend in chicago and she took me here. She knows I love to eat, so she took me to all the well know restaurants in chicago. I have to say that Rosebud is the best! Man I wanna go eat there!
(5)Jennifer N.
The clam linguine ($12.95) is soooo good! The portions are huge too, I took most of mine home. Overall very good lunch, but very very noisy so its hard to hold a conversation.
(4)Ann F.
I like this place for a nicer lunch with my friends. Salads are great!
(3)Manny C.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. The food is so good. If you love Italian Food this is the place for you. They have great service to go along with their food. It gets pretty busy for dinner so you want to make reservations.
(4)Nari H.
it's a pretty good italian place and everything you get tastes good. my only complaint is the excess oil they used in the spaghetti.
(4)Andrea H.
pricy, yes, but if you arent paying, it can be worth it. my coworkers and i went here for a combination we-won-our-trial and coworker-birthday lunch. i really had my eye on the steak sandwich, but as they make theirs with tenderloin (even though it includes giardinara on top which would mask the already low-in-fat, low-in-flavor cut of meat) it costs over fifteen dollars and is one of the most expensive things on the menu. steak sandwich. really. so i opted for the chicken vesuvio sandwich, a very interesting combination of a vesuvio boneless breast, lettuce, tomato, onion (lettuce and onion warmed and wilting together with a slight dressing, which i really loved) served with a green pea aoli (which was faaaantastic) and super thin french fries in a giant mound. the sandwich is one of the best i've been able to eat in the loop where i work (oh, i lament the lack of sandwiches!), but at eleven dollars a pop its not one i can afford to eat even weekly, nor would i feel good about paying that much for it if it were my money. everyone else seemed quite pleased with their meals, but again, with the two sandwich options being so terribly overpriced, the entrees were also a couple of dollars more than necessary. so, for prices, i am taking it down one star. the other star goes away because the tiramisu, while acceptable, was really lacking in flavor, and as i am kind of obsessed with good tiramisu this matters deeply. plus there's something about their iced tea selection, and their hot tea presentation, that i just find deeply stupid.
(3)Tony C.
excellent food great place to be at for great service and food
(5)vicky y.
if you love linguini and clam sauce, you've got to stop by this Rosebud's location and try it. it's my favorite place for this dish. i've ordered it at other rosebud's and it's just not as good.

Night and day. That's how different our experience was this evening at Rosebud Theater District. Since we weren't going to a play this evening, we made reservations for 7:15 to avoid the earlier rush. The restaurant was full when we arrived though. We were greeted warmly and shown to a very nice corner booth. Our waiter was prompt and offered us cocktails. On a Friday night after a stressful work week, we were grateful for the quick service. There were several specials available and several different options available for preparation on their regular menu. We had lots of questions for our server, Paolo (sp?) and he was very knowledgeable. His descriptions were very helpful. We order clams as an appetizer, I ordered whitefish prepared Francesca style and my guest ordered scallops. Service was prompt but not rushed on all courses. Since we were not in a hurry, Paolo set us a leisurely pace and we enjoyed our time to catch up with each other. Each of the dishes was well prepared and nicely presented - very flavorful. The portions are very large here. Our entrees were more than we could finish. Still we found room to share a delicious trio of sorbetto with biscotti. We stopped to thank the General Manager, George, for our excellent experience. He was so nice, he went out and hailed a cab for us. Again, most appreciated. I now understand the many rave reviews I've read on Yelp about this Rosebud location. I can only think that our previous experience was an outlier and I will definitely return to Rosebud for another fine dinner.
(4)Clint N.
First off I have to tell you that Chicago dining is in a class all by itself. There is never any shortage of really good food for you to find within a 10 minute walk anywhere in Downtown Chicago. Having said that the Rosebud was a spectacular delight. For appetizers we enjoyed calamari with a special house sauce that was slightly spicy. It was so much that the waiter (Augustine) split it for the two of us. I also had a bowl of Asian Seafood Soup. The soup listed assorted fish, which usually means, leftover crap that didn't get sold or will go bad soon. Suprisingly, it was very tasty and delicious. Dinner was chicken parmesan and a Chef's special peppercorn encrusted filet over grilled asparagus and brocolli. The parmesan was friggin huge, like ostrich breasts. It was easily enough to serve 4 people. The steak was cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly. We found the place delightful. Had a few glasses of wine, enjoyed great, personable service and had very good food. I'd highly recommend the place.
(5)Andy S.
I've eaten here several times and it's always good. Was there for dinner last night and enjoyed the bacon and chicken soup and the chicken oreganato. The sauces that come with their meat dishes are what makes them special. My wife really enjoyed her salmon. Bruschetta is very good. Service top shelf.
(4)Aurora M.
Out for dinner with friends prior to a show, couldn't be more pleased with the prompt service and attentiveness of our server, Vinny. Hospitable and courteous staff, hostess, and manager were an added bonus. We started our meal with with a savory sausage and peppers appetizer, followed by a flavorful Caprese salad. The fresh ingredients lent to a perfect combination of flavors, specifically the fresh mozzarella, which melted in your mouth. Some of our favorite entrees included the salmon oreganato, chicken vesuvio, and most delicious of them all was the rigatoni alla vodka. Be sure to leave room for the moist tiramisu and carrot cake. Definitely recommend The Rosebud for their exceptional service and savory dishes.
(5)Emily C.
This is the perfect place for a business lunch. I would highly recommend the grilled salmon salad - the salmon was fresh and delicious with a slightly charred flavor. The ambiance is upscale but the prices are reasonable for downtown ($10-15 for most lunch dishes). The only downside was that the staff was aggressively friendly. I found their enthusiasm to be forced. I tend to find this kind of service to be off-putting because it frequently interrupts conversation. Perhaps you would like it if you were at an awkward business lunch!
(4)H P.
I absolutely love this place! I came here for business meetings a decent amount, and the food is always great. The staff is very friendly and professional, and the environment is business-like. Great place for a nice business meeting.
(5)Nick V.
Absolutely amazing food. Service was excellent, although that's to be expected at 8pm on a Saturday. Excellent wine selection, as well.
(5)Amber B.
Food and service were great. I had the lobster ravioli (special) and it was so delicious. Their pasta dishes that come with veggies come with A LOT of veggies - which I love. The service was really good and prompt and my team had a great time. Would definitely suggest for business dinners.
(5)Shradha A.
So I've been to 3 of the Rosebud restaurants (Dearborn, Rush and Division) I was taken here by the people at work. The service was pretty good, especially for a group of 12. No orders were mixed-up or forgotten! The food was pretty decent too. I'd recommend for lunch meetings. Rush = The nicest one! Carmine's (near Division) = not good at all. Too noisy and cramped! My pasta was floating in water instead of sauce!!
(4)Jason C.
Love the food and service here, especially the beefsteak florentine.
(5)Sus K.
Rosebud is by far my favorite restaurant in Downtown Chicago. Of all the Rosebud's I have been to, this is by far my favorite location. I first had this restaurant when I started my internship in June 2011 and it was a part of my welcome lunch to the company. I remembered ordering some kind of pasta while my supervisors and the hiring manager ordered the some kind of pork chop off their lunch menu. The food as I remembered it from the first time was excellent and it kept me coming back multiple times. For dessert we all had the Sundae and I was surprised when the cup came out coated in fudge and nuts. It was by far one of the more decadent desserts I have had by that point. Since then I've had this location in particular 4+ times. When I returned for their lunch menu again this summer, I got the steak sandwich with fries which I could barely finish but found excellent and the carrot cake for dessert which was delicious and decadent. Their lunch menu is an excellent value and very reasonable priced for downtown. I've never had to wait for seating, and they treat you extremely well. Regardless of you age or appearance. Usually it becomes an issue because I am a 19 year old into fine dining and waiters will usually treat me rudely at times because they don't think I would tip. I usually leave about a 20% tip on a $40+ meal. At Rosebud the service is fast and never intrusive (as far as this location goes) and the food is always spot on. I've made one of my favorite memories of the year here. At the time I had this meal, I was dating a guy who was about to leave the city after graduation from UChicago and we wanted to celebrate our anniversary dinner. I had mentioned that and Rosebud went out of their way to accommodate us. They gave us a nice booth in the private corner of the restaurant and made sure to give us the utmost privacy to enjoy the night which ended perfectly with a horse and carriage ride. The waiters occasionally came to check up on us and we could hear them commenting on the sweetness of it all. He ordered clam chowder. We ordered mussels for the appetizer. And I ordered the steak. At the end of the dinner when they brought us the check, the brought us a complimentary chocolate mini cake, to help us celebrate. It was the highlight of my night. Overall I love this location. The atmosphere is always spot on, they always have your table ready on time, the food will keep you returning, and their bread is always the greatest.

My office was treated to lunch, and the restaurant of choice was Rosebud. We got the food delivered, so I cannot vouch for the service. I was recommended the Shells with Broccoli. It was good, not great. The taste was rather bland. Since I wasn't able to take a look at the bill (and prices aren't posted online), I have no idea how much this dish cost, but I wouldn't pay more than $10. I did get a chance to taste other peoples' dishes, which were an improvement. Overall, the food was okay, but probably not worth the price.

Had lunch today at Rosebud. The hostess promptly seated the party of 2 after checking in with a reservation. The server was very helpful with specials on the menu and with a chicken limone that was not on the menu. The Chicken Limone and Rigatoni Genovese were great. The chicken was a little over done and the portion ok, it could have been bigger. The chicken came with potatoes that were a bit oily. The one issue was the server did not bring the check and had to wait almost 10 minutes. The location in the loop is great place to have a business lunch or lunch with family/friends.

I forgot to mention that this is one of my favorite places for "soup in The Loop", or for a tasty and inexpensive lunch. When I worked in the building especially, I bellied up to the bar for a late lunch when things had quieted down, ordered my favorite Minestrone, fresh and flavorful, served with great Italian bread and olive oil/parmesan. Paired with a club soda and lime, and full service in a classy setting for $6-7.00. And all those healthy vegetables, too. Can't beat it as a nice mid-day break. (Dearborn Stop on Blue Line)

Just had a really bad experience for lunch. It started with the hostess who gave us the "I'll be right with you" while she was walking to seat a big group. When she came back she seated another couple who came in after us. When she came back we asked why did she seat them first. She took a phone call and I guess forgot to tell us why. Kind of odd. Then we sat there. And sat there. Then there was water! More sitting. Then someone asked if we wanted cheese. Then waiting, and waiting and then the guy came to take our order. I asked about specials. I guess the hostess forgot to give them to us. We ordered 2 simple pasta dishes and a diet. More waiting........I saw the people next to us eat and leave and the people on the other side of us who were seated after get their food. We were wondering how long can it take to boil noodles. Then we got out food! Hooray!!! But mine was missing a key ingredient, the basil. He took it back to have it added. When he came back I could see they put 3 whole flakes of fresh basil on it. Not cool. I usually eat my pasta w/ a fork and a spoon. But no spoon. So I used some bread. We ate our so-so food. It wasn't bad but nothing I haven't made at home. Then we sat. Then we waved a guy down to wrap our food up. 10 mins go by. Our food wrapped up and sitting on the table. We're looking at each other. And OH! There's that guy who took our order and we never saw again. Not once to refill the diet, not once to see how everything was, and not once to see if we wanted anything else. This lunch took over an hour. Glad I work close by! I won't be back unless I'm aiming for a long leisurely lunch.

The safe bet for lunch meetings. Only thing is, you can't do serious business here because it's too loud. There are a few tables that are situated outside of the restaurant/in the lobby of the building. It's much quieter there if you need to have a serious chat. Otherwise, just know that you will probably want to take a nap after you have lunch because like other Rosebuds, the meals are heavy and the portions are enough to serve three people.

I've been here twice for happy hour, and with 2 drinks you get access to their excellent buffet which includes unlimited olives, spare ribs, meatballs, macaroni salad, various cheese apps, chicken wings, fried zucchini, etc. Great way to work your way through happy hour downtown where options are highly limited. Wait staff couldn't be more pleasant.

Mediocre Italian food. Spotty to awful service from server to our whole group. She forgot a drink order, didn't apologize. Attitude when we had to reorder other forgotten items. Wish we would have booked elsewhere.

The linguine with red clam sauce was awesome. Wine list was extensive. All wait staff very attentive.

Went for lunch during the week. Pleasant seating in the atrium, had the chopped salad. It was all very good and the seating allowed for a private conversation.

Food was just ok, but the service and our waitress specifically, was way beyond good - she was outstanding!

Decent dining option if you're catching a play in the theater district. I almost walked (or hobbled in my moon boot) right past this Rosebud location because I didn't realize it is in an office building. I think the location takes away from the restaurant's ambiance. It was kind of like eating in one of the restaurants in the Sears Tower. I was craving some carbs, so I went with the baked ziti with meat sauce. I don't know if my expectations were too high, but I felt like the dish was a bit on the bland side. It needed some pizazz! Maybe some jazz hands? I don't know.... The service was mediocre. In his defense, our server was totally overwhelmed with the number to tables he was waiting on, but we were basically ignored the whole time we were there. It took several requests to get parm cheese and olive oil for bread dipping. When our food was delivered by the food runner, it sat on the tray in front of us for a few minutes before it was served by the server. Hell, I'll grab those plates off the tray, dude, and serve myself! Watching your food right in front of you and not being able to partake is brutal. After all the bitching, the experience did have some saving graces, namely our booth was cozy and comfortable, the bread is delicious and our spinach salads that were served with the pasta dishes were fabulous. With all of the overpriced restaurants in the area, Rosebud is a great way to grab a bite before a play without being broke the rest of the week.

Nice place with very classy decor. Good meal for a work per dium. Owner was very friendly.

I was here recently to catch dinner before a show at 8pm. We were seated before our 6pm reservation and barely made it out by 7:45. The service was awful. They were crowded, but it was almost like our waiter disappeared. He forgot to bring my friend's appetizer. Our dinner sat on the table for over 20 minutes before it was removed. He brought coffee but forgot her cannoli. It then took forever to get a check. We had to ask twice. One of the other employees finally saw a credit card sitting on our table and fetched the bill which was a good thing because we were tempted to leave. The food was good. But given other options, I probably wouldn't go back.

In, sat, ordered, ate, paid in 25mins. Crazy. They were incredibly prepared for the night before the marathon. Broccoli was a little greasy but the rest was great!

Dined there recenlty with daughter and her partner. Decent wine and beer selection; good menu. Think the keystone moment was when each of us ordered an exception to the menu...I wanted something off the lunch menu (it was definitely dinner time - after 7:30); daughter wanted the mushrooms out of the ravioli; and Tristan wanted chicken added to her vodka sauce dish...'no problem' was the response to each...way to be!! Food itself was NOT exceptional....but still good...and service was wonderful...will be back 3 stars in general....4th added for the service

Lackluster. Overpriced. Cramped. Boring. If I were a professor and this pasta were a paper, I'd give it a C. It is average, and therefore, overpriced. The tables are too close together, creating a distracting atmosphere that is conducive to nothing but eavesdropping.

After frequenting the Rosebud on Taylor this location is a total let down. Some how it does not come close to its other location. We go to the one on Taylor quite frequently and were excited to try one closer to home. The food is just okay and honestly was better as left overs. The only plus is that they give 2 canolis, instead of one. Besides that, take the extra time and go to little Italy. You'll be glad you do.

My wife and I were going to a play and picked this place because of proximity and experience with other rosebud's and we were not disappointed. The menu and quality of food was great. The wine list though not large had a lot of variety. It was a bit noisy because they offer free appetizers for the after work crowd. The wait staff was very good and attentive. We had more than enough time to get to our play.

Great service. I went during their busy lunch hour and the waiter and staff were fast and friendly. My drink was always full! I ordered an asian chicken salad that isn't on the menu. Very good! Also, I am a bread whore so I love places that bring bread to your table! Great downtown lunch spot and VERY close to the Washington Blue stop!

This is the first experience we've had at a Rosebud restaurant and we were not disappointed! The service was stellar - and thankfully very conscientious of our 8pm theater time. The atmosphere was so pleasant as well. Highlights on food - Zuppa de Mare was amazing, they had every type of seafood and shellfish in there and it was all beautifully served over linguine in a red wine sauce. The Tiramisu was one of the best I've had. I would definitely consider a pre-theater dinner here again!

Great Italian food in the loop/financial/theatre district

Solid food, excellent service. We started with the stuffed mushrooms which were perfectly done & pretty tasty. I tried the lobster ravioli special. At first I thought they brought the wrong dish because the ravioli were buried under a pile of asparagus, tomatoes & baby shrimp. Maybe they were buried for a reason -- the ravioli didn't have much flavor -- but the the dish as a whole was actually pretty good. Wife ordered the Bolognese and loved it. I wouldn't go out of my way for this particular Rosebud restaurant...but if you're in the area after work or for a show I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The bread basket came with a plate of olive oil and grated cheese. Very tasty. We had the mussels in red sauce appetizer. It was ok, nothing special. My date had the Salmon Salad, which was very good. I had the Chicken Vesuvio. Very disappointing. Way too much salt. Dessert and coffee were very good.

Note: This only pertains to the Rosebud Express that I frequent for lunch. Here's why I SHOULDN'T continue to frequent Rosebud: *Price. It's going to set you back at least eight bucks, and you could eat Mr. Submarine for three lifetimes at that price. *Selection. They have a minimal selection for lunch, and with the Chase cafeteria offering everything under the sun I'm spoiled for choice if I walk across the street. *Space. That bitch is cramped. It's like a sardine can in there. If you get a person or, god help you, two that don't know what they're doing then you're going to spend a lot of time spinning around with your hands pressed to your face so as not to goose the grayhairs, ya dig? That being said I'm all for that oriental chicken salad. The noodles and the crackers are a winning combo. Clocking in at close to nine dollars, it's not cheap but, hey, I got scratch for dayzzzz...not really...but kinda...it's not that pricey....I guess.

This is one of the best places in the city for a happy hour. I was fortunate to be treated for an event here but I understand you get access to a very nice buffet with $18 worth of drinks which is pretty easy to do at this location. The food was very good and included the following: tender BBQ spare ribs, chicken wings, Italian sausage, pizza, macaroni salad, meatballs and some other items I did not have the opportunity to try as I was on a mission to eat as much oinking piggily wiggly as I could. The service was fairly prompt with the drinks. The only caveat was a pissy waiter who told me and another person that we were on the wrong side of the buffet and we were in the way of servers. I don't deny that we were, but he could have been a little more cordial about it.

Good location, decent food, friendly service. Rosebud is a pretty stand-up restaurant in the loop where you can get dinner before a show or, for all the workaholics, a fine place to have a lunch meeting. I really enjoyed this place and was happy to be a regular patron until a week ago when they crapped all over my sugar coated opinion. Long story short-ish: I have eaten their minestrone for about 2 years. I love the hodge podge of ingredients in it that make you think the chef scooped all the left over veggies on the counter into a pot, heated it, added some salt and called it soup.... I am vegan, but I am not ridiculous, I won't throw blood on you as you gnaw on a chicken bone, but I do ask annoying questions like -- Rosebud waitress, is the minestrone made with a meat broth? I was repeatedly told "no." So you will understand my disgusted surprise when last week my soup had a piece of beef floating around. I then learned there is, in fact, "just a little beef broth in there." ... meat eating universe - 1, Erin - 0. Don't let my beef floater deter you from giving this place a try. But if you have food allergies, diet restrictions, etc., make sure to ask a handful of people if things are safe before diving into your dish.

I'd give this place 2.5 starts if I could. I went here yesterday for lunch with my father. We walked in around 12:30 and were able to be seated right away. Unfortunately it was along a long wall crammed with other tables. I almost knocked over a glass of water on a neighboring table trying to sit down. Service was ok. It was friendly but not very attentive. The place was hopping but even when it quieted down our waitress still wasn't really around. We had to keep requesting drink refills and getting the check taken care of took longer than necessary, especially for lunch. Food was good. I had tomato bisque soup and the steak sandwich, which was excellent; flavorful and tender. My father got linguini and clams; he said he orders it often at various restaurants and this was the most amount of clams he's ever gotten. The only thing I didn't like food-wise were the "fries" that came with my sandwich. They were shoestring style (fine) but completely crispy -- I want my fries to have some potato and give to them. They were really chips. Not a big deal, but where else except Yelp can you vent about something like fries that are really chips?

If you have tickets to a show or are staying at the Hotel Burnham (see my review below) this is a great Italian place to stop by and grab a bite to eat :) My favorite thing about this place is that my family and I can be headed to a show or we could of just lost track of time shopping in Chicago and realized, "Whoa, it is like 6:30, and we are starving, and we don't have a reservation anywhere and we don't really feel like doing Subway for dinner." And we can just waltz into this place (maybe have a minimum wait) and get a great, warm meal :) Some of my favorite dishes here are the caprese salad (which with all that soft, fresh mozzarella can be quite filling), the chicken vesuvio, and the tiramisu is always a solid desert choice. I have heard good things about their ricotta dumplings but I have yet to try them :( Minus 1 star for the meatballs, although my Italian grandmother made them from scratch when I was a kid so I am a bit jaded ;)

My fiance and I are big fans of the Rosebud restaurants, so when we chose to come here before Billy Elliot on a Wednesday night, we expected a decent amount of greatness. Things started out ok- our waiter was friendly, and my fiance and friend were both very excited about the lobster ravioli special. One complaint from my fiance was that his bourbon and soda was actually a bourbon and seltzer, but aside from that everything was good so far. After we ordered our food, our waiter came back about 5 mins later to say that they only have enough ingredients for one of the specials. My friend kindly gave up her plate for a spicy pasta dish instead. We were also served our apps, the shrimp cocktail and Bruschetta. The shrimp was good and my friend like the bruschetta, but it was a little crunchy and stale tasting for my fiance's taste. I also would have preferred it a little chewier. Fifteen mins later, as we munched on bread and chatted about how a theater district restaurant could be out of the special BEFORE 7:00, another employee (not sure if it was the manager?) came back to say that the kitchen made a mistake and the can (CAN?) of filling that they thought was lobster was actually cheese. So they would not be able to serve the other special. Annoyed, my fiance ordered cheese ravioli instead and my friend asked if we could have a discount AND a bit of hustle since we did have a play to get to. When we finally got our food, I was starving. Luckily, my meal- the penne and sausage- was really good. The sausage was mildly spicy and went to so well with the perfectly cooked penne and the cheese and broccoli sprinkled on top. I would have totally given this place 4 stars if not for the mishap with the other food. Despite being let down by the lack of special ingredients, my friend and fiance seemed to enjoy their second choices as well. In the end, they did take $20 off of our bill, which I thought was a nice gesture and at the very least a reason to give this perfectly-placed theater restaurant another chance.

Came here on a client lunch today. I love this location for a sit-down lunch. Yeah, it's kind of weird location if you are coming "downtown" for a show because it is in an office building, but when you are working, it's not all that bad of a location. Now, if you do come here for lunch, I would highly recommend getting reservations. This place does a lot of business, and the wait could be 30 minutes+. I made reservations via OpenTable today. Quick and simple. I ordered the Chicken Walnut Salad, my client ordered the lobster ravioli. We both enjoyed our meals and service was great. The waitress knew the menu really well and made some personal recommendations which is always great. If you're looking for a good sit down restaurant in the loop, do consider Rosebud.
