Great customer service. Cute space and homey vibe. Convenient location close to Addison-Red and not much further from Southport-Brown. Pricing was a dollar or more than I would have liked to pay for the food - 8 fried mandoo for $5.95 seemed like a good deal but they were pretty small and quite possibly frozen from a bag. The spicy YetCaMein ($8.95) was as spicy as I had hoped for with sweet little shrimp and tender bits of squid. It didn't seem that salty as I was eating it, but man, was I thirsty afterwards. I would probably go back to give the BulDak people seem to like a try, but only if I already happened to be in the area.

Haven't had the chance to dine in yet but ordered delivery via GrubHub early Monday evening. Food came pretty fast, in about a half hour. I got the Pa-Jeon (seafood pancake), Akutagawa with rye toast and white rice and gravy, and Spicy YetCaMein (seafood noodle soup). The pancake was filled with seafood pieces and scallions. Although it needed more batter, it was still yummy. The homemade gravy was delish and the mixture of all the veggies and beef was just comforting. I loved the spicy noodle soup. The spice was actually spicy and sooo satisfying. The noodles were perfectly cooked. Everything just worked very well together, including the seafood and veggies. Great bang for your buck, as portions are very satisfying and prices are definitely affordable. Although it's not a full on traditional Korean restaurant, I can still get authentic Korean flavors without having to go super north in the city. I actually love the concept and the fusion with American diner food really works here.

Stopped in here for a weekend lunch the other day and had a solidly positive experience. This is a "no-frills" experience, but worth a try. We had the bibimbop and the cold noodle dish, bibimkuksu. Both were quite good! I'm really interested to see how the traditional American breakfast is. Kind of an interesting combo. I was hoping to see more Korean-inspired breakfast items though. The menu was clear and had photos for those who are unfamiliar with Korean cuisine. The staff was friendly and attentive. Good experience!

On a Saturday afternoon, we strolled in and the place was empty. It's a Korean diner that I KNOW is buzzing at night because of drunk Wrigleyville/Boystown/Lakeview residents! We sat down and our waitress didn't look too happy too see me. I like how the menu has pictures AND descriptions of all the dishes. It's not like I would be able to pronounce them anyway, but a nice touch nonetheless. Intially I was going to have bulgogi but the egg dishes were a bit cheaper and I was picking up my friends tabs. They decided on chicken and pork bulgogi, but I went with their special, Akutagawa which was stir-fried sprouts, eggs, fresh green peppers and onions. I went with chicken there and it came with rye toast which I got dry. Iced tea, coffee, and water were also ordered. Korean waitress did not like to refill waters or coffess, so that's really why I took a star off. She had the whole "pissed off I am a diner" vibe. I will be back here because of the food, but not that service. For three people in Lakeview a $40 tab is a #blessing #unnecessaryhashtags The bathroom is in the kitchen. Yes, in the kitchen. Hilarious!!! They have burgers, too. I'd recommend this to anyone!

One of my favorite hole-in-the-wall spots in Wrigleyville! I typically order the Chicken Bulgogi with a fried egg on top and it's fantastic. For $12 a plate, they give you tons of food. Typically, I have enough left over for a second meal. Relatively fast as well. I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes and the staff is extremely friendly.

I've been here several times and I'm glad that I recently moved much closer to this wonderful restaurant. I usually order the bibimbap, which I devour quickly because my mouth cannot wait for the next delicious bite of rice, beef and vegetables - the copious amount of chili sauce I put in is the only factor that can slow me down! (The chili sauce comes on the side, so no worries if you can't even tolerate pepperoni). The food also came within minutes which is a huge plus. I look forward to stopping here more for lunch!

This place was highly recommended by a friend of a friend so came here for dinner. Galbi burger is yummy and comes with a load of fries. TV and wifi is available. They have a high counter with stools that people can sit at. Good for solo or group diners. Short walk from Belmont subway station. Staff is friendly and restroom is clean. Ketchup and Tabasco sauce are available. Seating at the tables closer to the kitchen area felt bit warmer than the ones closer to the door, but the door held slightly ajar so a slight cool breeze flowed through the crack. I would come back to try their other foods!

Usually bread & rice is one of my favorite places to order from but today my Korean seafood pancake was all burnt & warped... it was disgusting. ... ugh... I can't believe it... they must have a new cook or something.... I can't give it more then 2 stars. ... ugh I'm going to have to find a new korean place that delivers.... bbbllkaahhh!!!# but the kalbi is delicious.... but my orders always are more then $30-40 dollars when I order so I expect better quality ..... especially since I've been a long time customer.... Eh.. BON APPETITE. .. I guess.....
(2)Mathew E.
I love this place. It's one of the few places in Wrigleyville that has a true neighborhood feel. It's also very affordable.
(5)Jaci Y.
We went to Rice' N Bread for Burger Binge week. They offered a galbi burger for $5 no fries with it but that's okay. Along with the galbi burger we had their BulDak and Dol Sot bibimingbop. Everything taste good not great. The service was a bit slow and we were told it was going to be slow after we ordered our food. I didn't really love that but we sat and waited for our food anyways. I would go back just because the food wasn't memorable for me. I would recommend for people to try it because it is a different style for Asian food establishment. It is a real Asian dive/ diner restaurant which is a new concept.
(3)Kristina W.
Affordable food + friendly service, but make sure you order the right things! Definitely ask for recommendations - the dishes that my table enjoyed the most were from amongst the ones the waitress recommended, while the others were not as spectacular. Besides the ones listed below, she also recommended the Buldak (spicy fried chicken) and Squid Bibimbap (if you can handle spicy foods). Great: Dolsot Bibimbap, Seafood Pajeon (best I've had in Chicago) Okay: Yetcamien, Dandak I'd highly recommend Rice'N Bread if you're in the area and looking for reasonably-priced, homey Korean food.
(4)Tyler J.
Interesting delivery experience. The woman on the phone actually asked me "why do you want teriyaki chicken and rice" to which I replied "my girlfriend is hungry." After receiving the teriyaki I wondered the same thing... It was a sad dish. After 5:20 on the phone I successfully ordered teriyaki chicken and bulgogi (which can apparently can be chicken as well...). Delivery arrives via a middle aged white woman with two kids in tow... Which is fine just unexpected. All in all the food was fine, I would return for the bulgogi!

Outside of a fertility clinic, this place does the most amazing things with eggs! Seriously...whether you yolk up your Bimimbop, top your Galbi Burger, or just go al natural and order them any style with a side of sausage, this place shells out some very serious embryos. It's a little neighborhood diner with a good selection of Korean classics to choose from. It's excellent if you're with a picky eater. They can stick to the basics while you venture into the likes of Bulgogi, BiBimKukSu, and whole bunch of other stuff that's difficult to pronounce, but tasty to put in your mouth. It's super cheap, BYO, and has super friendly service so overall it's pretty tough to find a reason not to love it.
(5)Nicholas G.
Came here with a friend who had heard good things, and I must say that for the most part she heard right. It's a fun, brightly-lit diner vibe, with a mixture of Korean and breakfasty foods. The price is very right, especially considering that it's BYOB. We started with the seafood Pa-Jeon, and it was perfectly well cooked. I chose the tofu Bibimbop for my entree, and it really hit the spot. My friend really enjoyed the Buldak, which was very spicy in the best way, and I was somewhat jealous that she ordered better than I did. However, I would note that she got the platter with rice and veggies, but this really didn't add much to the dish - it was simply a ball of white rice and some steamed carrots and broccoli. I'm not one to tell you not to eat your veggies, but maybe order a side of kimchi instead? The one mild ding was that our server (an older Korean man, maybe also the owner?) was not very responsive - we were there on a Thursday and the place only had three tables of customers, but we repeatedly had to ask for glasses for our adult beverages and when it was time to get our check he was gone for a long time. Maybe this is a fluke and the regular server was off that night, but just a little bit more attentiveness would go a long way to justifying the 4.5 stars that other reviewers have averaged. Regardless, at 4 or 4.5 stars, this is an excellent choice if you find yourself in the neighborhood.

Loved it--excellent egg foo young. Great stop on the way to the game. Fresh and fast.
(4)Belle L.
BYOB Excellent value for $$ (plenty to choose for under $10). Simplicity and comfort of a diner, and informative service with cleanliness for a 5-star restaurant (thank you Kirsten). The zen Table and Seat spacing is just right. Bulgogi Breakfast -- the only one in Chicago! Delicious. Unique Add-ins -- nutty or garlicky. Specials -- I can't wait to try the Bacon Kimchee Fried Rice on Thursdays. Coffee -- typical diner brand (Superior) with a great bottomless price of $1.25. There must a lot of TLC in the food as the typical diner food staple tastes great. The Korean dishes are house made. I look forward to coming back for more!

Great little Korean style diner in Wrigleyville. We decided to meet up here with some friends. Unfortunately I chose a wonderful time to meet, right after the end of a Cubs game. Needless to say, parking was a nightmare, and drunken Cub fan zombies were everywhere. We finally made it inside of the restaurant. It was pretty dead on the inside, which I didn't mind at all with all the chaos happening outside. We ordered some egg rolls, the Galbi burger, the dol sot bibimbap, the chicken rice soup, and my friends got the Bul dak. Portions were great and everything was very tasty. It was a nice place to just lounge around and talk with each other. It was a bit hot that day, and no air conditioner was on at all. Maybe there was a fan? I was sweating, though. We still had a great time. If you want to avoid the drunken Cubs fan zombies, maybe you should slip into this diner for a while. They have great food, and you can BYOB if you so desire.

Really wanted to like this place more but it didn't meet my expectations. Originally came here for the Yelp Burger Binge week so I could get the Galbi Burger for $5. I ended up ordering that and the dukbokki since I'm constantly on the search for it in the city. I ordered around 11:10am and didn't get my food until noon. They're definitely short staffed. While it was Memorial Day weekend I managed to arrive right before the crowd so I didn't see why it would take about an hour to make my two dishes. The food for a table of four that arrived after me was served before mine which I found annoying. Once the food finally arrived, I was excited to dig in. The dukbokki was decent and will do to satisfy my cravings but it wasn't the taste and texture I was hoping for. The burger was a disappointment; I was expecting something really good because I love galbi but it just seemed like a regular burger. It was also room temperature and not straight off the grill which probably added to the mediocre taste. Not sure if I'll come back but if I do it would probably only be for the convenience of location rather than the food.

A solid place that I really wanted to like more. I liked the service. Our waitress was super friendly/accommodating. I liked the simplicity & cleanliness of the diner. But the food was just ok, except for the seafood pancake. The seafood pancake was tasty with a good amount of seafood (mostly squid + shrimp) especially for the price of $7.95. This pancake is different from most other places in that there is less batter used, and a lot more thick-green onion. It feels less "heavy" to eat. I would definitely come back to order this. The squid bibimbop had an excess of gochujang (red chili paste). It was overwhelming to eat. There were good amounts of squid that had some nice chew to them, and so I picked all of those out to eat. The dish came in a stone bowl, and I managed to catch a few tasty flecks of crispy rice here and there, but I couldn't eat much of the rice because it was drowning in sauce. (But maybe it was a good thing since I did fill up on the seafood pancake.) My friend ordered the galbi (but I forget which one). That dish was also excessively sauced/salty. The flavor of both entrees were spot-on, but personally too heavy for me.
(3)Michelle R.
After a cubs game, wanted something other than bar food. Wasn't expecting the food to be 5 star but it was pretty darn good. The pajeon was great and I would recommend the bul dak and bulgogi. The portions are huge for such and it's not expensive ! I would eat here again. It's byob fyi.
(5)Susan R.
I ordered delivery, and it was perfect! Priced just right, and everything was tender and warm. Will definitely order from them again and hope to get there in person as well!
(5)Kar Leng W.
My friend and I ordered the Ddok-bok-ki, Bulgogi beef and Bul Dak fried chicken. Soooo good and cheap! I'm happy to report that we have a legit contender to Crisp (another Korean fried chicken joint in Chicago). I actually think Rice'N Bread is better (although nothing can quite compare to Bonchon in NYC, ahhh... but I'll settle :) ). Great service by the lady too who helped us with recommendations. Would definitely visit again and try other items on the menu.
(5)David P.
Friendly owner. Good choices. Enjoyed Bibimbop with some delicious cinamon flavored canned Korean tea. A perfect quick meal before a Cubs night game.
(4)Collin J.
Awesome place overall! Pro tip: if you don't want to be on the toilet all day, get the egg foo young. Amazing! If you don't mind being on the toilet with textbook Korean dumps, get the bulgogi, also very good!
(5)Jen K.
This is one of the many hole in the walls in Wrigley. If you are not looking for it, you may not see it. It looks a little dirty but I know it's not. The wait staff is nice, and you can meet all of them by going to the bathroom... in the kitchen. My large group was comfortably seated. I ordered the bimpimbop. It was pretty good but I saw other things I would have preferred. It's BYOB
(3)Esther K.
Rice and bread...two of my favorite things. I can only speak to the Rice part of their offerings, as I tried the Dol Sot Bibimbop. So good, with tons of veggies and huge portions. It also managed to maintain its classic Korean taste, which I appreciated. The interior is cheerful and the owner was super sweet. My only qualm is that I wish my meal had come with a few side dishes/banchan, at least some kimchi. Other than that, a winner for both simple Korean dishes and some cool fusion items.
(4)Sarah Y.
What a delightful multicultural experience! It looks and feels like a diner, with traditional breakfast items like pancakes and omelets on the menu. Turn the page and the menu is full-on traditional Korean or Korean-inspired! We tried all traditional Korean items: the pa jeon (seafood pancake), dolsot bibimbop and beef bulgolgi. All of the Korean fare was really authentic and tasty...I can't wait to try the much talked about fried chicken next time! Oh and BYOB!
(4)Courtney S.
The teriyaki beef with sunny side up eggs and rice was fabulous! A nice mix of American and Korean culture. Not your traditional breakfast.
(4)Justine M.
GOOD korean food in such a simplistic way. So much flavor and it has such authenticity. I highly suggest the buldak (hot/spicy fried chicken), pa-jean (korean seafood pancake) and dol-sot bibibimbop. Everything tastes fresh. Each of our dishes came with a bottle of sauce and the cute, kind Korean man serving us explained what each was for. He was very informative, attentive and kind. There was barely anyone in the restaurant on a Saturday at 7:30. I suggest coming here if you want to avoid crowds. Its small inside so just be warned. I am coming back to this hidden gem.
(5)Stephanie S.
Great little spot and BYOB. Get the duck dak (sp?). Soo good! Definitely recommend for a quick bite.
(4)Kyle D.
The good: Fast and friendly, this place is the bomb. The bibimbap was fantastic, and my girlfriend compared her noodles to the likes of her local Chinese town. Food was made quickly and we were served immediately. The bad: They close at 3 on Sundays. The atmosphere is pretty boring, but meh, it's Wrigleyville. Overall: Fantastic small little lunch spot. They also deliver! Atmosphere: 7/10 Service: 8/10 Food: 8.5/10
(5)Richard L.
This is a very strange restaurant. It has a number of what I would call very Korean dishes, but is also a neighborhood diner, serving french toast, hamburgers, etc. There were a couple of patrons who clearly were regulars, a family munching on french toast, and a relatively heavy smell of Korean food permeating the air. The juxtaposition was disorienting. My wife and I came to try the Kalbi burger. It was a tasty burger, however, the menu says it is a mixture of pork and beef. That is not a true kalbi burger (kalbi is 100% beef short rib), hence the 3 stars. Perhaps it is better to just have the straight up traditional American offerings? It does seem that that is what everyone else seems to order...
(3)Maria L.
Was dying to come here after reading a Serious Eats article and so intrigued by the Korean diner aspect. 1. Homey cozy vibe, only the azn mom and dad and the busboy were working so it was pretty hectic but I didn't mind 2. Tried the sweet fried chicken (with rice and veggies) and the galbi burger. Both were pretty tasty and decent portions. I love that you can get diner and Korean food all in one. Also prices are decent for the area. Overall, a great option in Wrigleyville if you're looking for a unique twist on diner food. Will be back to try rice and gravy and their special noodles.
(4)Mira S.
Awesome low-key place. It's a diner with a bunch of good Korean food. The menu is big, with something for everyone. The bulgogi and bibimbap were good. The servings were generous, a filling meal, and maybe some leftovers for a snackThe spicy chicken doesn't taste as fried and battered as most fried dishes at Chinese places. It's not fast food, more of an easygoing, hangout, taking-your-time kind of place. We walked in and got a "hey" from the guy behind the counter like we were friends. There was a big table of maybe 14 people in the back when we went in, so it'd be good for groups. There's lots of metered street parking around.
(4)Colleen C.
This place is awesome. The food is great and the service is wonderful. (plus BYOB! wooot) definitely recommend the Bulgogi Pork. Its fab.
(5)Sherman X.
open-minded Korean restaurant that also serve American fare. I like the casual diner style. Service was fast, and noodle soup was yum.
(5)Nancy P.
The bf and I were in Chicago for vacation and we were staying in Lakeview. Through Yelp, we found Rice'N Bread. The bf wanted some Korean food so we eventually stopped in. He got the Kalbi burger and he was raving about it. Definitely get it with the fried kimchi and to add a fried egg. I didn't really like the flavor of the meat though. I just got eggs and potatoes (regular diner food). The staff was really friendly. If we had not been eating all day before we had gotten here, I probably would have order something more substantial. Decent spot, 3.5 stars.
(3)Jingo D.
I've only lived in Chicago for a little over a month, and this place has already become an instant favorite. The place is clean, and service is really good. In fact, they went above and beyond for me the first time I came in for dinner. Their Thursday special was their Bacon Kimchi Fried Rice, and since it was a Friday, I decided to take my chances to ask if that particular special was available. They said that they can make it for me, and with no problem. The Fried Rice was delicious. My wife ordered their BulDak which is fried chicken with a Korean-style, sweet & spicy glaze. It was awesome as well. Not to mention that prices were very reasonable given the sizable amount of food per order. Also, BYOB! Like I said, this place was an instant favorite. I definitely recommend it!
(5)Kayu T.
Went back again! Tried three new items and still love this place. My Korean friend said it's not tradition at all with some if the soup base and hot sauces for the stone bowl, but the concept here is Korean-American diner so I think they did a great job putting those in one place.
(4)Jennie T.
I don't know why I ever moved out of Lakeview, but I am so glad to be back, and Rice 'N Bread is one of the many reasons why I love Lakeview so much. They have the best dolsot bibimbop (stone pot rice bowl with beef and veggies) in the city! Crisp is an okay place for bibimbop, but Rice 'N Bread has got them beat, and it's still within walking distance. I personally prefer the stone pot version over the non-stone pot because I like some of my rice slightly crispy. It gives it that extra umph, y'know? The veggies in this bowl were very fresh, and I liked that they didn't water down the red sauce that you can add to the bowl. It gives it a nice sweet and slightly spicy flavor. It was just perfect. I know where I'm going for dolsot bibimbop. I can't wait to try their other dishes-- my boyfriend said that the galbi burger was good, and his bulgogi breakfast plate looked good as well.
(5)Katrina F.
BulDak is to die for!!! Crunchtastic and perfectly spicy. Pa-Jeon was loaded with octopus or squid and shrimp. It was heavy and light at the same time. Bulgogi was perfectly cooked. I'm in a food coma with leftovers galore. I have a new favorite restaurant!!
(5)Ivy T.
A great neighborhood joint! It's small and clean. Their menu contains Korean and American options. I love their bibimbap with tofu. The bf lives by their Kalbi burger and a chicken rice soup they have. Their Yet Ca Mein has a very nice broth which is heavy on the pork flavor (warning to vegetarians who don't mind mind having their foods tainted with meat but hate the taste of meat....yes this category of folks do exist. It's called a compromise to coexist with omnivores). We've always found this place to offer very comforting food. I have to admit we haven't tried their more American options but truth be told, why break away from choices that have always worked for us? Now that would just be silly. My Christmas wish, should anyone from Rice and Bread read this, is to extend your weekend hours for my post-drinking binge.
(5)Brian M.
Great little neighborhood joint that's cheap and delicious. I ordered the bibimbop in the stone pot and my gf ordered the soup with chicken and noodles. The bowl was delicious with the rice and the beef and veggies blending into a perfect mix of wonderfullness. The broth was also amazing with a rich and deep chicken flavor. For the price that you pay here you get an amazing value and when I want a nice comfy korean meal I'm definitely coming back here.
(4)Xida Z.
Diner with a Korean Twist Rice 'N Bread is promising to be an American diner with a Korean twist. As you walk in, the diner part is readily apparent. Diner, check. Once you open up the menu, you can see what they mean. Breakfast favorites like two eggs any style have the option of pairing with rice and bulgogi where you might see potatoes and ham. If you dig a little deeper, you find the hidden treasure. Traditional korean dishes, like a delicious bibimbap (rice with vegetables and beef), bulgogi, and galbi sit next to korean fried chicken and noodles similar to japanese ramen. Korean twist, check. I had the delicious ramen, but I was very jealous of my friend's bibimbap. For lunch, I came back for the fried chicken. Beware that the hot one is very hot for people not used to it. Ambiance and service 4 Food 4 Value 5

Hey, now! I stopped in after reading a recent ROTD for Rice'N Bread. Without that review, I would've continued thinking that this place was a dive joint that serves low-grade burgers or something. Totally and completely incorrect. They serve some damn straight Korean dishes. My maiden voyage selection was Dandak. Stir-fried chicken covered lightly with a spicy glaze. Rice and veggies come along for the ride. Out standing. It's sorta like General Tso's chicken without all of the breading. (If the general's rank were based on his chicken recipe, he'd be a captain at best.) Gotta tell you that I could've done without the veggies. All were remarkably flavorless, although they looked pretty. Service at lunch time was super casual and this is NOT a date spot-- don't expect a fawning waiter or, possibly ANY waiter after getting your food. But that was just fine with me. I was too busy watching Ellen on the TV. I love their hours, too. I'm the kind of guy who often likes to have a lunch meal around 10 in the morning. This place will be filling that void for me.

No other place gives you the quality and portion of food for the money you spend at Rice'N Bread! My experience at Rice'N Bread was absolutely phenomenal! The restaurant had a relaxing and casual aura of coziness about it. The friendly staff was extremely informative and patient with any questions we had about the menu. Also, the cute, colorful chalkboard menu gave me a nice sense of comfort. Though the restaurant space is on the smaller end, I wouldn't be surprised if they need to expand to accommodate for all the new customers who find out about this place! Our party decided to order several different items on the menu and share them. We ended up ordered the following items: 1. Galbi Burger - This burger was simply amazing! Thinking about this authentic burger now makes me salivate. I would highly suggest getting the caramelized kimchi(+ $1 extra), as it adds a very nice flavor to the burger. On top of it all, it's all served on a delicious pretzel bun. 2. Buldak - (Korean style fried chicken in a spicy chilli pepper sauce) - Ehrmergerd!!! this is probably the BEST, TASTIEST spicy chicken I've ever had! I contemplated taking a picture of this dish, but once I popped the first piece of chicken in my mouth, the fun just wouldn't stop and there was nothing left to take a picture of! For those of you who are not good with spicy food, this dish has quite the fiery kick. This dish is unbelievably tasty and the chicken simply melts in your mouth after you bite through the crispy layer. 3. Crispy Tofu - This appetizer is perfect for any vegan out there! I'm no vegan but I still found this dish to be so savory. WARNING - be careful biting into this delicious cube of heaven because it may be very hot. Don't let the supple, yet crispy outer layer deceive of the temperature inside. However, once you bite into the crispy layer, the tofu inside just melts in your mouth. 4. Pa-Jeon (Korean style seafood pancake) - For $7.95, this is quite a good bang for the buck. Every Korean restaurant I've been to charges ATLEAST $12+... If you've never had this before, you need to try it. If you try it here for the first time, you may never want to get it anywhere else because they will make you overpay for it. 5. Mushroom Omellette - If you're looking for a nice vegetarian omelette, this omelette will do the trick. It also comes with a nice side of hash browns and english muffins. It took the liberty of creating my own breakfast sandwich out of them; using the english muffins as buns for the omelette and hash browns. 6. YetCaMein Noodles - After we ordered some of these, we realized that everyone at the table next to us had one in front of them. We figured it had to be decent so we were excited to give it a try. We ordered the chicken and it was VERY delicious. The noodles were cooked to perfection: not too soggy nor too crispy. The broth comes with a sprinkle of chopped green onions and has a nice spicy kick to it, while being extremely flavorful! Last but not least, it's BYOB! There's a liquor store right next door, so you can grab your favorite alcoholic beverages and enjoy your meal with some spirits! I will definitely be making this a routine pitstop whenever I'm in the area!

By far one of my favorite spots to get Korean food. The owner and staff are very friendly and the food taste great. They also believe in the have it your way method. I came in requesting a Korean dish that was off the menu and the owner fixed it right up with no argument. The food is also affordable compared to most Korean family style restaurants.. I also love the atmosphere big tables and they have wifi. All around amazing place. If you love Korean food and may want some pancakes too this is your place
(5)Jason A.
A kind of Korean place, with a huge Wrigleyville bar scene twist. You can traditional dishes along with burgers, sandwiches, and breakfast food. Too many choices, that just don't really fit for me. The food was pretty disappointing, as the quality of the meat was severely lacking. The chicken was white, dark and fatty. It was the chewiest chicken I've ever had. It was off-putting. The sauces were ok, but a touch sweet. I like the broth in the noodle dish, but that was about it. Too many better Korean choices.
(2)Paige W.
I've ordered take out from here a few times and I've never been disappointed. I have never been inside the actual location, so I can't speak to that. I don't eat meat, and finding good vegetarian options is always a challenge for me. I still want something delicious and bad for me...just without meat. They have these potato pancakes that are covered in gravy and scallions which was really good. The gravy is vegetarian, but still very thick and delicious. I've also had the terryaki fried rice and tofu, which was also very good. Their menu is a little schizophrenic and all over the place. They do have a lot of Korean dishes, but they also have omelets, BLTs, hamburgers and fries. Overall this place is great and I'll be a regular take out or delivery customer.

Excellent food, excellent service! Would certainly come back.

Our trip to Rice'N Bread was everything I could have hoped for in a visit to a 4 star rated restaurant. The food was amazing, and our waitress was exactly what extremely informative and engaging. Upon arrival, I was a little surprised that the restaurant wasn't very crowded on a Saturday night, but during our meal, I realized that they do most of their business through carry out and delivery. I'll definitely be partaking in that in the future. I ordered the popular Galbi burger and it truly was delicious. The Korean style seasoning in the burger's ground pork and beef were like nothing I've ever had before. My partner had the chicken egg foo young, and it, too, was delicious. One of the surprise winners at this place is the home made Chili powder. We put it on everything, and in the short time we were there it became addicting. We will definitely be going back to this place!

This shop is pretty inconspicuous but all of the high reviews from Yelp lead me here on a Saturday evening. We ended up ordering four of the most popular dishes: Pa-Jeon: very flavorful and had crispy bits all around, excellent start to the meal! DukBokki: chewy and the sauce tasted authentic. Only order if you can handle spice BiBimBop: the way we ordered it, it didn't come in the traditional stone bowl so we didn't get that crispy rice at the bottom which makes this dish usually so spectacular. The meat was well seasoned and the veggies were warm. Dulbak (fried chicken): This dish is what downgraded this review from 4 stars to 3. This "spicy" chicken came with unseasoned, steamed carrots/broccoli and plain rice. While the chicken was somewhat juicy, the appearance and overall taste were quite bland. Why serve steamed, unseasoned veggies at all?! It makes no sense! I did see a disappointing amount of food being heated up in two microwaves which is always alarming IMO! The service was very attentive and our waters were constantly refilled. Come here if you have had limited exposure to Korean food. The breakfast might be legit, I don't think I'm coming back to find out.

When I visited I nagged my gf and friend that I wanted to try this place out. I usually have a distrust for Asian fusion foods, but when you add breakfast components, I just find it hard to resist drooling. I got the kalbi burger with fried kimchi. Now, as one who grew up on korean food, I will suggest the owners (or at the very least you guys) to add fried egg to it. Kimchi has an acidity to it, so adding an egg over medium adds this richness to it. I find it perfectly balances out the flavors of the burger. (But be warned it gets incredibly messy) As far as the kalbi goes, I kind of wish the marinade was better, but if I were to live in the area, I think I would still come and get my fatboy on here from time to time

I've been searching high and low for some bulgogi. Couldn't make it to h mart and so we settled on this. For bulgogi, ths place has some of the best I've had in lakeview so far(read also as only place I could find). But we left completely satisfied and made bulgogi tacos the next morning with our gigantic box of leftovers Extra points for doing Korean only and not that funky Asian fusion thing.

This is a quaint modern restaurant that perfectly blends american comfort diner food with korean comfort food. We had a coupon for this place so on a rainy night we decided to eat here instead of his favorite Dimo's. Ideally located, Rice N Bread is close to Wrigley field and the Addison red line stop. I had recently come back from the Philippines via Korean Air so I was craving me some Bibimbop. I decided to order the Dol-Sot Bibimbop which was bibimbop in a hot stone bowl. It was so good. The hot stone bowl made the outer edge of the rice flush with the bowl crispy adding a nice taste and texture that you don't get with normal bibimbop. The ingredients were fresh and delicious and what you come to expect with bibimbop. The service was good and I really want to try the dan dak (korean fried chicken) next. Next time, maybe we'll split the Dol-Sot Bibimbop and the Dan Dak. Can't wait.

I've dined in and ordered delivery a few times already but my absolute two favorites I always seem to order are: * Galbi Burger - marinated beef and pork goodness, fresh patties with infused flavors and herbs. I would skip on the side order of fries (plain), but instead get: * Pa Jeon - Korean seafood pancake, seafood is squid or octopus I think. Order the above. Now. Get it in your belly. Right now. You're welcome.

I've been here quite a few times because I used to live so close but it's such a neat breakfast place. For starters, you can get awesome Korean dishes for breakfast! The kalbi dish is so delish! Also, I've never heard of anyone doing this before coming here but I'm obsessed with it, rice and gravy for breakfast! It's a must, sooo good and will almost cure any hangover you have! There basically only one server, I'm assuming she's the owner as well, but she's insanely sweet!
(5)Lauren B.
This diner is amazing! Bottomless coffee, an assortment of traditional breakfast dishes with a Korean twist and not to mention the excellent edition of Korean food. I was so glad I experienced this hidden spot for the first time! The food was pretty good and different.
(3)Eric S.
Bibimbop was fresh and delicious. Scallion and seafood pancake with sauce was amazing also, though the octopus was a bit rubbery. Pork bulgogi was spicy and tender. Overall wonderful food and nice staff. Service could have been a pit more prompt as we were the only ones in the restaurant and our waters remained unfilled for a solid 20 min twice.

LOVE. DELICIOUS. My favorite place in Chicago. I think I like the Galbi burger best. I rarely eat burgers and don't like burgers much. But Galbi burger is different. I ate it all although I was completely full at that time. If you want some spicy and crispy things, you will be satisfied with Bul Dak. If you desire some sweet and crispy things, I would recommend Dan Dak. These are definitely amazing and addictive. The service is also great and the owner is so kind and nice. The owner's service, the flesh environment in store and the delicious food made me truly happy. I am gonna try Bibimbap and others someday. WONDERFUL PLACE!!! :-)

An impromptu double date night led my partner and I to this place with friends. Conveniently enough, my partner found this place on Yelp after one of the others in our group mentioned wanting Korean. The menu is simple and easy to understand with a seamless transition from the American fare to the Korean plates. There is enough variety to give one decent options from which to choose without being overwhelmed. I settled on the dolsot bibimbap with an order of the pa jeon to start. The pa jeon was a little disappointing. There seemed to be much more greens than potato batter, so it was less of a pancake and more like a pressed veggie round. That said, the flavor was good, and it was a decent portion size to be shared among the group of four. The bibimbap, on the other hand, was a delight. The portions of rice, veggies and meat were generous, and the egg was cooked well (tho not near raw like is traditional). With the compulsory red chili sauce, the flavor profile was excellent. The dolsot was sufficiently hot to keep the rice cooking and crisping. The ajusshi, who I assume is the owner, was fairly attentive and treated our table well. At the close of the meal, our party noticed that he had apparently comped our two appetizers, so here's to whipping out my k-drama-inspired elementary Korean and showing the old man not all crackers are ignorant. We'll definitely be going back soon.
(4)Anne C.
Delicious! Husband had the Bibimbop and it was soooo good! I recommend getting double steak though because it is so delicious you will want more! I had the DanDak- good but I've had better. Needs more sauce. The waitress was so thoughtful and talked us through our meal- I've never felt so comfortable asking questions about a cuisine I'm unfamiliar with. Would for sure come back or get to-go!

I work right above Rice 'N' Bread, and it is my go-to lunch spot on most days I don't BMOL. The decor is nothing to sneeze at (think clean, modern diner), but the food is very delicious, and this is coming from a former denizen of LA's Koreatown. At this point, I've tried nearly everything on the menu, and there are a few items that stand out: Traditional Pork or Spicy Seafood Yet Ca Mein - Either one is rich and flavorful. I tend to the pork on cold winter days as the broth is so rich and warming. The spicy seafood is not lying about its piquant. It'll take your breath away. Bul Dak - spicy fried chicken with a Korean zest. It comes with a yogurt dipping sauce that provides a firm counterpoint to the chili and quells the heat. Galbi Burger - Mixture of beef and pork, which keeps it juicy. It may be the best burger I've ever had for less than six dollars. I worry about ethnic restaurants in the Wrigleyville neighborhood because of all the meatheads, but don't let the names dissuade you. Do you like broth? Do you like fried chicken? Do you like burgers? Then come here.
(5)Traci C.
Mmm, got a cheeseburger and added an egg to it. The patty was thin and fresh, super fucking delicious. It was exactly what I was looking for and I slammed that shit in under 3mins, hah. My friend got the beef teriyaki, which smelled like heaven and she had plenty leftover to take home. All in all a great experience.
(5)Jeff D.
One of the only places in Chicago with actual dukbokki! Great stone bowl bibimbap. I can't wait to come back for the galbi burger!
(5)jna r.
The staff is great! I always order delivery thru seamless and one time I requested a small kimchi on the side, and they sent me some! Thanks so much. Great service! I always come back for more!I really appreciate it. Did I mention their Bibimbop is the best? The kochujang (chili paste) is authentic!
(5)David R.
Walking in, the ambiance is very nice and warm. The place was not very packed so it was enjoyable to seat all of my friends in no time. Service was prompt and the server attended is shortly. We shared the BulDak Korean fried chicken and the Galbi burger which was more than delicious!
(5)Armando H.
Living near the area, I easily got addicted to this place! From there Teriyaki and Bulgogi breakfast plates, to the Bulgogi plates, the Bibimbop and my new winter favorite, the spicy YetcaMein. (chicken, pork or seafood) . There's a couple of more things that I've tried and have been equally as good. I plan on going through that menu a lil more. But i definitely recommend giving this place a chance!
(4)Bradley B.
Bulgogi or French toast? One of life's most vexing choices. But with Rice 'N Bread, now you can double fist it! Crisis averted!
(4)Lynne F.
Loved our meal and the prompt friendly service. I had Bibimbop with tofu. The tofu was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, delicious. The bibimbop came with four vegies and of course the fried egg. Chilli pepper sauce served on side so you can determine your own degree of heat. My husband had the bulgogi and it came with a small tray of jullienned spiced carrots, kimchi and spiced seaweed in addition to a large bowl of rice. Will definitely come back. Opens at 10 in the morning Mon - Thurs. and 8 Fri - Sun. Open until 10 Mon - Sat.
(5)David C.
Very good Korean food. Have not tried their breakfast yet. Waitress was great. Rice and bulgogi were great.
(4)Justin B.
Did Rice'N Bread for takeout Saturday night. Exceptional. Tried the egg foo young, the spicy bulgogi pork, the bibimbop and the dundak fried chicken. Also did the dduk-bok-ki appetizer. This place blew me away...all of these things were large, tasty, spicy when they needed to be spicy, full of flavor, hearty. The bibimbop was maybe not amazing, I wouldn't order that one again...but that's just to make room for the other four dishes. Wow, and you usually expect delivery to take a while, or for the food to not be piping hot on arrival...even on a Saturday around 7 PM, it showed up in 30 minutes at a friend's house in Wrigglyville blazing hot. Can't wait to have this again as a dine-in experience!!
(5)Claire Y.
Great price with legit korean food. Came here after working out and they were playing Bulls game. Try their spicy rice cake and any rice bowls that are prepared in stone bowls.
(5)John J.
They have burgers and eggs and sandwiches, but I've never had them. I just come for the tasty Korean food. I love going to Crisp but this place has noodle soups and is a lot closer to me. Byob! The only problem is the name. Whenever I tell people about this place, they always complain about the bland, unappetizing name. Whatever, a rose by any other name...
(5)Anna P.
Had the galbi burger! Delicious but a little too salty for my taste! Reasonable prices and great food otherwise.
(4)Eames E.
Most of the items on this menu are carbohydrate based and include staples like Rice and Bread. Water was adequate but giving 5 stars because it was served without even asking, very good. Did not eat the food but the water was great and had a great ice to water ratio.
(5)Alex W.
I started going to this place when it was still Hamburger King. A friend swore that there was awesome Korean food if I just trusted her. She was right! I love their BiBimBop. The korean fried chicken is also super great: sweet, salty and fried. They balance it with steamed veggies and rice to make a nice pair. If you're not feeling like asian food, they also have the diner staples: burgers, fries, breakfast, etc. This place quickly became a routine before work in the same building. The owners are super nice. The food is fresh, quick and tasty. The diner is cozy and clean.
(5)Maria R.
A wonderful take on breakfast : fried eggs, white rice and Bulgogi! Gotta try!
(5)Mike P.
Found this spot sitting in the corner near wrigleyville, it seemed extremely local spot and you get the nice home cooked korean meal. Its hard to find good korean food near lakeview, but this place does satisfy the craving if you are itching, esp if you are craving a good pajeong. I got a galbi burger, which is cheap! its listed around 5 dollars, and it is full of flavor. one thing that did bug me though, was the service, not very attentive, nor do they speak english very well, but it is literally the owner running the whole show when it came to attending to the customers, so i guess i should cut him some slack the people that come by all seem to be best buds with the owner, so its just filled with regulars all day. Def coming back here, even just to grab some diner food, korean food, or even korean fried chicken wings, with that many options? gotta go back for more.
(4)Ji H.
Great mix of Korean and diner food. Cute decor, nice staff and reasonably priced, really good food. My kids love coming here - Galbi and Yet Ca Mein are favorites.
(4)Lil G.
Came upon this place because I was really craving Ramen or some sort of noodle soup and I wanted to go someplace near me. Did a quick yelp search and found myself here and what a great find it was! I loved everything about this place. The decor is so warm, friendly, clean, and filled with inviting smells of delicious food. Immediately I wanted to sit down and order, and the food is what this place really delivers. We ordered the Seafood Pajeon, Yat Ca Mein and Buldak chicken, and all of them were yummy and satisfied my tummy. ;) The Pajeon had plenty of tender pieces of squid, shrimp and fresh veggies all fried to perfect crispiness and it came with a slightly spicy soy dipping dipping sauce. Yat Ca Mein was great. They simmer their special house broth there for 24 hours and I can definitely taste the wonderfulness of that. Noodles were nice chewy texture and pork belly pieces had just enough crispy skin and fat, which i loved. Garnished with hard boiled eggs and green onions, all flavors mixed perfectly well. Buldak was also very good. Nice and crispy on the outside and tender and juicy inside. The sauce is very unique, nothing I've had before and it was pretty spicy. It was solid. Service was great too. No complaints there. My only thing was that I wished their Wi-fi worked that day, but that's never going to stop me from going back again and again. There are lot's of dishes on their menu and written on their chalkboards that I want to try!
(5)Angel V.
Was really excited to eat at this restaurant as it had a high review rating compared to the ones around it. I was starving, blood sugar was low, had headaches. My fiend and I headed there from the train station which isn't that far of a walk but when ur hungry 1 block can seem like 10. We finally get to the restaurant I reach for the doors and guess what? Locked. I double checked the time it was only about to be 2:25 and the times on the window advertised it closes at 5 online. I wish I could've tasted the food, but after that experience, I lost my interest in the place.

A Korean diner in Wrigleyville? I know what you are thinking. Trust me, I thought the same. Let me just say, I love Korean food. I was very very very skeptical but this place is the jam. I almost didn't want to write a review, just to keep it to myself. It's THAT good. The Ramen is superb, not the best in the city, but one of my favorites. The real treat here is the Bul Dak; small fried pieces of Spicy goodness. I like to cut it up and put it in my ramen. For those not hip on the K food, you can also get a wide variety of traditional American diner food...like cheap ass greasy cheeseburgers. The staff is super friendly and seem to really appreciate your business. That goes a long way these days. I can't say much else other than you are a fool for not trying it if you live in the area. If you see me at my usual table, pull up a chair and let's feast together.
(5)Sissi L.
It has my FAVORITE chicken in Chicago--- the Buldak korean fried chicken!!!!! (I love spicy & unique food)It tastes like a best mix of buffalo sauce & spicy fried chicken, which I have never had BEFORE!!! All I want to say is ---OMG. TRY IT!! They are a lot. The best noodle soup tastes like a better version PHO. I'll definitely come back!! The price is very reasonable! The store's layout makes me feel warm.
(5)Junill W.
I found this little gem like Korean restaurant about couple weeks ago, and I am pretty sure I would go again.... Really good food! I had Galbi Burger, and Dan Dak... Both were so good!....I wish I could taste all from the menu.
(5)Jacob K.
It's more like 1 1/2 $ signs at $10-15/person. I've been 3 times and will keep coming back. The bulgolgi bowls - squid was soft but not too chewy with the delicious korean flavor. The burger should be on a list with every other "burger" place in this city. Service is fast. I've never waited for a table.
(4)Erin E.
you want korean. you don't want to leave the house. well, that narrows it down. as i suspected, there's a reason not many korean restaurants deliver. ever hear of a little thing called korean bbq, cooked right at your table? bibimbop, which comes in a stone pot with a not-fully-cooked egg on top? how about the table full of little side dishes, whatever they're called- kimchi, bean sprouts, etc.? yeah... i was pretty sure they weren't going to be delivering raw meat. the best parts about korean dining would be pretty difficult to recreate in take out containers. so all in all it was a decent meal (& leftovers) but i'm guessing it's much better if you eat there. if you do, i suggest the seafood pancake and the bulgogi.
(3)Andrew N.
Can't believe this place doesn't have more reviews. I've been here a few times. I love the bulgogi beef. its the specialty... basically a Korean stir fry. Its kind of strange how they have some traditional diner food, then a section with Asian dishes, but everything I've had is good, so I'll definitely be back. Just wish they were open later.
(5)Joohoon K.
ricenbread.com Rice'N Bread is very close to Addison red line stop and 5 minutes from Wrigely field by walking. It was not easy to look for the nice fusion Korean-American restaurant near Chicago. Finally, I got one of the awesome fusion restaurants in Chicago neighborhood. DISHES: I highly recommend the buldak/dandak (I bet you have never experienced those delicious, tantalizing taste, home-made, and unique sources, of course, both of them!). Not even both sources, well-cooked chicken itself gave me the happiest experience ever. The quantity of each dish is also enough to fullfill your hunger. Secondly, you have to try the noodle called YetCaMein. I have no idea how to explain this delicate taste, but this noodle made me addicted. Also the kalbi (the most famous Korean beef) burger, you have to get this if you don't want to lost the opportunity to eat this one of the kind fusion burger. In addition, there are lot of things you have to try, dolsot bibimbop (Korean traditional rice with beef/vegetables), home-made gravy with rice and so on. Since I am getting hungry again, I would like to wrap up "DISHES". It is also very historical place, has been in the same place since 1959. A cute and kind Korean man (as Justine M. described) can explain the historical stories of this restaurant if you want. Finally, price of each dish is also very reasonable. You also can bring your own beers. In Sum, you can be fully satisfied this restaurant with not only tastes, but also the kindness, cleanness, and freshness of environment. And you can also feel the fruit of the owner's effort to satisfy his customers in this restaurant. Thanks.
(5)David L.
I really wanted to love this place. I've always wanted better Korean dining options in the city, especially one that was within walking distance. Its very cute inside and seems like a "hole in the wall" place (and I mean that in a nice way) that smells like the food is just delicious. We ordered pa jeon ,and also bibimbop and crispy tofu. If I was just judging the food, I'd give this place 4 stars. However, we sat for a long time and didn't get our appetizers till after the main course. We didn't get the crispy tofu until my friend had finished his main course. I just think they are understaffed and the poor waitress, who to her credit, maintained her calm composure, was the only one working the front. For a full restaurant, she was seating, greeting, taking orders, delivering food, refilling waters, refilling hot sauce bottles, giving checks, processing those bills, and she did it with professionalism and a calm demeanor, despite being bombarded by the pressures of the house. For me, this made me think poorly of whomever owns this restaurant, putting their staff in this situation. It is the restaurant's responsibility to ensure a good dining experience, not by just making the food great, but my making sure the staff is not overwhelmed to a point where it impacts the delivery of service to the consumer. Finally, there was a 3inch cockroach that climbed up on the wall behind me. You know that if you see one, there's probably many more somewhere. I have a hard time believing that they don't know about this issue. This last visual dessert of sorts, simply ruined the meal for my friend.

Rice n Bread is great. I've been to a ton of Korean restaurants and Rice and Bread is as good as it gets. The people that work there are super friendly. I love their bi bim bop. It is just a wealth of tastes. Oh so good. Prices are super reasonable. In Lakeview. Close to the Red Line. Run don't walk. You will leave with a smile on your face.
(5)Brandt D.
A fantastic little very unassuming Korean Diner in the heart of Wrigley. Great food, service is fast and super friendly, and it smells phenomenal inside. Low price for large portions, and the Quality does not suffer. I'm actually amazed how low the prices were for how great the food was. I will be back, so, so many more times. I promise you this.
(5)Michelle P.
Only tried the squid bibimbap but it's authentic Korean style! Definitely coming back to try the other menu items.
(4)Zack B.
I'm in town from Cincinnati and yelped breakfast places around lakeview where I'm staying. Have to say this is one of the best breakfasts I've had in a while. I got the eggs with bul go gi and hash browns, looks/sounds extremely simple but it was absolutely phenomenal. The meat is so flavorful and tender, the little bit of sweetness from the bul go gi marinade marries so well with the saltiness of the eggs and hash browns. Very reasonably priced and the portion size is very generous. I highly recommend it for breakfast and I'm sure their lunch/dinner are equally as good. Definite 5 stars
(5)Helen N.
5 of us came in and tried most of the Korean options on the menu. Shared the seafood pancake and spicy fried chicken. Both were authentic and definitely hit the spot. We had Yetcamein, bibimbop, bulgogi, and the kalbi burger. Everything was spot on and super flavorful. Service was efficient, friendly, and the general atmosphere felt very home-y. It will definitely be my new asian delivery go-to place!
(5)Nora B.
I've lived in the neighborhood and have been coming here for about 3 years. New extended hours new name and newer staff (Sarah) is great and everything I've ever had was great. The Galbi burger is probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. I always see the neighborhood characters in here too. (Ronny Woo-woo out of uniform for example). I'm also happy to say my bf and I have our picture up on the wall. Once you become a regular you can too. It becomes sort of an honor.
(5)Alex W.
Amazing friendly staff. Terrific food, more place need to be like this in Chicago! Quick, fast, cheap, easy, high quality.
(5)Nigel L.
I was in the mood for noodle soup and came here to try YetCaMein. Two thumbs up and will be back for it along with trying other dishes. Broth, noodles, meat and egg were a perfect combination. Eager to try the galbi and bulgogi dishes next time.
(5)Jason S.
Had the kalbi burger and it was delicious. There were a lot of other items on the menu that sounded great so ill be back for sure
(5)Alexis W.
Food was delicious--bibimbop, sogalbi, yetcamein. Loved that it's clearly run by Koreans who sustain its American diner roots--dined with some oldtimers eating eggs and toast. Everyone was happy! No atmosphere to speak of (apart from diner, which has its charms, no doubt) and proprietess was not given to smiles, but-- go if you want lack of pretense and/or solid Korean fare....
(3)Scott K.
Came here last night. All of the Korean dishes were amazing and our waitress was extremely friendly. We brought in a case of pbr and had an amazing dinner. Get the beef short ribs.

first time visitor - love its DonGalbi - overall foods are delicious and tasty! definitely will come back for more sampling...
