Love this place for one thing and one thing only...Chapli kabob!!! Have been told by my paki friends that it is most comparable to the original kabob made in Peshawar. Warning that it is super spicy but that's how I like it. Service is a hit or miss...ambience is simple.

Not good. The chicken was not grilled (this is a kabob house?) and had no flavor. Should have tried the biryani I guess.

The fiancee and I stopped in one night, after doing a bit of food shopping nearby. I was a bit disappointed. It was a Saturday night, but there was NO ONE ELSE in the restaurant. I ordered the beef kebab and we got some spiced beef paratha. I had to gently insist that I really did want my food to be "spicy" and that my male companion did NOT. The beef was tender, but dry, though it had a great aroma. It was spicy as requested, but seemed to be missing something. (Not sure what, but the fiancee agreed with me on this.) He had a very interesting Chicken Kadhai dish, that I really liked. The chicken was tender and the spices were more complex than I expected. However, overall, it was pretty ho-hum.

The staff are polite and the place is clean. I ordered the chicken paratha roll which was alright. Nothing to write home about. The chicken wasn't dry but it wasn't that juicy or tender either. I completely forgot about the condiment that they gave me which may have added to the lunch in a positive way. Next time I suppose :) for the most part, lunch items are reasonably priced and the dinner items available don't usually go over ten dollars. I'd give them a couple more tries. For what it is, this place has 5 star potential if you go in expecting it for what it is - a decent priced quick bite "almost Indian fast food" type vibe.

I love this restaurant. It has the best Indian food I've had and I've gone to quite a few Indian restaurants. The best dishes here are the Butter chicken, butter naan and the shishkebab. My fiancé and I eat here every time we are in Chicago and during one stretch of time, we ate here every week. The chicken biryani is also delicious. The staff is very polite and helpful and the food is amazing. I highly recommend going here and ordering the dishes I mentioned.

The mutton biryani is full of oil. We had the worst Bhiryani here. Quantity for to go was huge.

Love the chapli kabob and frontier chicken. Tried the paratha and the dry fruit bread and both were good. The decor is ok and they could do with more waiters. Our place to go when we know we want to eat great kabobs.

Atmosphere: Plain Bathrooms: Clean Service: Good Food: Average I'm not a connoisseur of Indian cuisine so take this review for what it's worth. Very clean, efficient service. Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka, Garlic Naan and Seekh Kabab Naan Roll. A little dry but very flavorful, I loved the three sauces served on the side, couldn't tell what they were though. I'd go back but we saw many restaurants to choose from on the Devon strip so we must hit a new one every time! I wrote this review immediately when we got back from the restaurant, so if I end up with an issue with dropping the kids off at the pool I'll update this review!

We went there as a group of nine. The food was amazing. The Bhaingan and Malai Kofta tasted very very good. Also the Naan and Roti was awesome. Good service. My whole group enjoyed the food.

Just Ok, I was in the hood with a friend and wanted to eat something. We were walking around and saw through the window that they were making naan, looks good maybe we will eat here. This wasn't my fist option but my friend didn't want to eat a completely vegetarian meal so he suggested that we ate here. We passed a couple of places that were busy with a lot of Indian diners, which for me is always a good sign, but no my friend wanted to eat a Ravi. So we get in and are seated shortly. We were the only patrons at that time but shortly came in a couple so I felt some hope that this place would be good. The waiter comes I asked him if there was combination platter that we could try, we had a little language problem and I desisted. We ordered chicken korma, chicken curry, cheese, sesame and garlic naan. I over heard the other party ordering the food "the most bland and least spicy possible" really???? at an Indian restaurant???? non of my business anyway. We get the food and it was just ok. The chicken curry was just warm at best. The best part of the meal was the canned drink I got, LOL JK the best part of the meal was the naan. The service and place just OK, with mirror in all walls, I don't really like that but that's just me. Side note: for some strange reason I felt like I was eating at a restaurant in the Little Village hood, maybe it was the authenticity of the hood, the stores and the different food. Na, it was because the cooks in the kitchen were blasting some Vicente Fernandez music and the cook in the front was having a vivid conversation in Spanish with (I'm assuming) a friend. RKH, should've gone with my gut (no pun intended) and ate somewhere else

My family and I used to go there, but when they increased their prices, we eventually stopped dinning there all together. Food is good, but a bit pricey. I remember on three occasions we came to eat and at the end, we gave the two elderly men tips, they snatched the money from our hands. Whoa...

So I'm constantly told that to find the best Indian food one has to travel to Devon Avenue. Suffering from the heat, sore arm and traffic that would turn Mr. Rogers into a serial killer, I headed out to Ravi for lunch. I love Indian sauces but will have to go somewhere else to find them. Sauces make the meal for me. I could stomach anything with a great Indian sauce. The owner was nice enough and the food was competent but definitely not worth the grind it took me to get down here. Portions were large and fresh. I'll give this place that, everything was fresh. This is the fourth Indian restaurant I have been to and is at the bottom of my list in terms of taste.

Excellent quick take-out. Had Chili chicken and Frontier chicken. Different but very flavorful. We got spicy. The Naan cooks in a clay oven and is good as well. Lots of food, great value.

Giving 4 Stars as the seating and ambience is not at its best but when it comes to the food I'll prefer to go every time I visit Devon. One of the best place for Kebabs and Curry's whether its chicken or goat they are delicious. My fav pick has been always Kebab and Deep Fry paratha with Chicken Curry. You can never go wrong with this restaurant. Yeah for sure bathrooms and ambience might not attract you.

This is one of the worst late night joints. It appears lighted and clean. Food is garbage. I've dined in and dined out and will never dine again. Both times I had rip roaring diarrhea. The one time I had carry out the food was for a gathering. People complained that maybe I brought diarrhea food over on purpose! Two people complained of a hurtful diarrhea. It pisses me off that both times I paid alot for diarrhea. Money and time wasted. Their Butter chicken is yucky. Food wasn't very spicy even when I asked for extra spicy. Tasted like its got too much seasoning and not enough meat or actual taste. HEY CHEF!! taste the food before you serve it. Chicken tikka was damn dry, the menu says "succulent", NOT. I also had a chicken kabob roll. Its tikka meat in a roll. Just as bad and worse. This would be a great idea for a "Last date" or breakup place. Maybe you want to give someone a bad impression.

I need to find another Indian restaurant. I have been going here many times after it was recommended that I try it. The food was great the first few times, but after that it seemed that the quality has declined. Also, our food is never spicy even after we requested it! I know that there are many better restaurants on Devon.

Yuck... I went up to Devon to shop for Indian spices, and all of the smells made me hungry so I went into Ravi Kabab House to get some takeout. One of the chicken dishes we got was SOO salty that we threw the entire dish out. You couldn't eat it. We also got the buttery chicken, which was okay... but I've definitely had better. My boyfriend thought it taste like marinara sauce on rice, and the chicken in it was pretty tough. Needless to say, we won't be back.

I've been to Ravi Kabab House twice now and I've found the meat dishes to be pretty satisfying. I know this isn't one of the big names of Devon Avenue, but it's worth a try. The restaurant itself is pretty garish-looking, but the first time I went, the biryani & karadi gosht were very good. The second time I went, I felt like the biryani wasn't quite as good anymore. There are very few vegetarian options, which makes sense I guess since it's a kabab house. This restaurant is usually pretty empty at lunchtime, so the service is fast. I think our food came well within 15 minutes of ordering! Don't be taken in by the dry fruit nan...it's really disgusting. Nice place, but inconsistent.

This place is sort of hit-or-miss. I've been going here since before their renovation, and I must agree that their quality has declined. Before you could always expect succulent pieces of meat in carefully spiced gravies, fluffy biryani, and huge, pillowy naan. Now sometimes the meat is too dry and the spice level is off. There are better places to have Pakistani food on Devon, so I'd say eat here only if everything else is closed or crowded.

  • Daniel H.

This place is just ok. The kababs are decent, but nothing special. Anything with a gravy will be incredibly oily, and the biryani was a little too wet for my taste, unless they were swinging more for Hyderbadi style... No need to use a lot of words: average, for grilled meats go elsewhere.

  • Lindley E.

Small tidy restaurant offers super-fresh tasting food in a plastic setting. Open kitchen at the front window is unusual and appealing, as, indicated in other reviews, you can see your food being made. Menu is simple and offers something for everyone.

Im from Michigan, and every time we go to Chicago we make a trip to Devon to get Naan Kabob. Ravi Kabab House has the best Naan Kabob rolls, not only does it taste good, but the quantity is a lot, and the price is very affordable. I would recommend all my friends to eat there Naan Kabob, the chicken, and the meat. Writing this review is making me hungry. :)

Food is okay but very overpriced, at least by Devon standards. Biryani was oily and horribly spicy. Chicken boti sandwich is on the dry side. Go next door to Sabri instead, much better food for your money.

I thought the food was okay. Not bad, but nothing great. The problem I had was with the waiter. He was a chauvanist!!!!! Women- stay away. My daughter dropped her bracelet between the wall and the booth. I asked for a stick and when I said I can help get it out, he said, "I do not need you, I will use him (points to my husband) for help." Then, they could not find the bracelet. I said "I know where" and took the flashlight from my husband and the waiter then tells me to give the flashlight back to my husband. After I show him the bracelet, he starts pulling it up with all of his power, even though it is stuck. I, then, tell him to let me do it and he ignores me. He, then, breaks the bracelet. I will never go back and encourage you to do the same. Much better food and service at other restaurants.

A very well kept restaurant on Devon Ave. They have an extensive menu with lots of great options. Best of all, you feel comfortable eating their food because you know its fresh and clean -- since its made right in front of you!

aww why the bad reviews? i've been here twice and had a good time both times... their tandoori chicken and eggplant dishes are delicious!!!! i had the chicken tikka and it wasn't dry at all.... tried the "sandwiches" and the beef one i had was absolutely delicious... couldn't taste the raita in it tho. :T but the sauces on the side go great with the food (the cool, the spicy and the sweet/sour) i love the dried fruit naan!!! it's my fav thing on the menu!!!!

This is an average place which doesn't stand out much on Devon because of all the competition around it. I've been there only once, the food was ok, the cooks were Mexican which is funny considering it's a Desi place :) I gotta say they do a pretty good job. I vividly remember that the server was very annoying and just stood at the table while we ate and did small talk. By the time we got done, we were super annoyed.

The restaurant was shutdown by the city on Monday, 1/5/08. The city inspectors found over 300 mouse droppings in the food prep area. Stay away from this place. The article was in the Chicago Tribune 1/6/08.

I was really bummed about this place. I went there for my birthday. First impression was that the employees were friendly and helpful. They actually brought me a complimentary dessert when they found out it was my birthday, so I had pretty good expectations. They brought our food, and it was alright. The meat was a little dry, but nothing too bad. However, when the bill came out, they had undoubtedly ripped us off. My friend had ordered a dish that was $7.50, and I know this because she would not have ordered anything more expensive than that because she was super low on cash. The final bill was WAY off, and they continued to argue, saying her dish was actually $12. They were polite the whole time; yet they ripped us off. We ended up just paying and walking out. Completely dishonest people working there.

HORRIBLE!!! This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to. Not only was the food disgusting, but the people working there were rude. I love Indian food and was excited to try a new place on Devon......I will never go there again. I got the Chicken Korma and Cheese Naan for carry out. When I got home and opened the bag, everything was covered in orange grease. The chicken was like no Chicken Korma I have ever had. It was in a brown clumpy sauce that also had a layer of grease on top when I opened it.. The cheese naan was a thick, dense piece of bread that had American cheese melted in the middle. The food was inedible. I tried my best to force some down, but it all ended up in the trash. Very disappointing and a huge waste of money.

This was my first time getting food from here. I agree with some of the others who've written reviews that the service is sort of rude. However, that's pretty normal for most of the places on Devon. All I ordered was 2 Lamb Biryani's and I was very impressed. They made it fresh in front of me and I've never seen that before. When I tried the food at home, I really liked it. It was a little greasy but not to the point where it was disgusting. I'm kind of surprised by the negative reviews of this place but I haven't tried any of the curries. I would defend the Lamb Biryani though. They also gave a great portion for the price which I find unusual for most Indian/Pakistani Restarants. I think it's always a positive when the food is made in front of you. I just wished the people at the counter were more polite. I'm South Asian and I really hope that our people will realize that it never hurts to show customers you appreciate their business. I'll still go back though.
