A definite on the neighborhood joint list. I'd say to me this place has a special niche because as far as bars go. This place has the best food in the area. It's neighborhood bar meets good neighborhood Italian restaurant. Good pizza, good pasta dishes, daily specials, soups, salads and more. My favorites are the "incredible " sandwiches. an "incredible" includes garlic bread ,red sauce & mozzarella chesse baked in the pizza oven....yum...I love the incredible combo, beef and sausage. Combine the good food with a solid neighborhood bar standing and you have a very good combination.. I like Paterno's a lot.

Very chill place to pop tops in the Jeff Park area. Also home to my 2nd favorite bartender in the Chi. Nothing fancy, but the beers are cold, the prices are right, the food exceeds expectations, service is top-notch, and music is juke box. If you're there and Bri is working, tip the man well and he'll take care of you right. Doesn't get the full five-star blessing because the regulars are whack-jobs and the P to V ratio is usually absurd.

When I am in the mood for an Italian Beef, in old Chicago style, I head to Paterno's Pizza, an old, family-owned and operated restaurant and bar in Jefferson Park. They do it right! Their Italian beef is served on a toasted garlic hoagie roll, stuffed with thin slice Italian beef with melted provolone (or mozzarella, your choice) cheese on the top. I like to ask for the au jus sauce on the side because then my bread doesn't get soggy as I eat. I treat it as a French dip and dip my sandwich in the sauce as I eat. Yum! Anyways, this place is always filled with the regulars. A bunch of crusty, funny, old guys, just sitting around shooting the sh*t. Always good for a laugh. Really, this place has character! The pizza is pretty good, too. But that Italian beef just calls my name!

Place is real divey but the pizza is AWESSSSSOOOOMEEE! granted it was a bit higher than what we usually pay for pizza but it was worth every penny. Only down side is i dont think they deliver. Maybe thats good or Id be 500lbs

We have hosted several group parties and have always been satisfied. Great food, pizza, beef sandwiches, reuben sandwich all great! Super prices on food and drink. Daily specials you cant beat! Casual, fun, great bartenders and owners.

I grew up in Jefferson Park, and have been coming to Paternos's for 20 years now. Paul and his staff are wonderful. I cater my Christmas dinner from here every year, beef & lasagna, and all of my guests rave about the quality of the food. It is always wonderful. Besides the catering, I come in every month or so for an incredible beef, tremendous. I also walk in often and get 2 quarts of their homemade meat sauce or marinara sauce for a quick dinner for my 4 kids after a long day at work. I simply boil some noodles and we're all set. The homemade pasta sauces are tremendous!!! The meat sauce is my favorite. The only, only semi-negative thing I can say is I do not care for their pizza. It is on the thicker side, and I love super thin or deep dish from other places better. But this is only personal preference. Besides the lasagna & beef, I would recommend their Chili Mac (chili over spaghetti or mostaccioli), and of their soups (always homemade), and their tuna melt is pretty awesome also. Keep up the good work!!!!

Paterno's will surprise you. You walk in and figure just another neighborhood bar. But wait, what's this extensive menu I see?? All these sandwiches with "Incredible" as a preface? Yup, the sandwiches really ARE that good. The Incredibel Beef has been my standby for as long as I can remember. Juicy beef on garlic Italian bread with mozzarella cheese...Mmmmmm. Last night I broke from tradition and saw Portabella Cheeseburger on the dry-erase board. Sounded interesting so I gave it a try thinking I would get a mushroom with a slice of American or cheddar cheese. Oh no bucko! This baby came out with sauteed spinach, blue cheese on an onion roll. I've had burgers at restaurants for twice the price that couldn't touch this Vegetarian Bad Boy. Added a basket of fries and a couple of Stiegl drafts and I was feeling good. If you go, always check the dry-erase board for the specials as they are always changing. The pizza is very solid as well. The vibe is always friendly and they have a few good beers on tap like Sam Adams, Guiness, Stiegl (a rare find), and a couple of Leinie's options.

Paternos.. You get 2 stars for an EXCELLENT "Incredible Beef" Sandwich. Its one of the best Ive had. BUT... If it wasnt for that beef sandwich you would have ZERO stars. Everything else pretty much sucks. The pizza is semi OK.. but I would never go there for it. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM... The smoking law says that people have to be 15 feet away from the door. Well the smokers at Paternos, (and there are many seeing is tho its typically an old man hangout), they stand right IN FRONT of the door. When I see this.. I just drive away. I shouldnt have to walk through that. Someone needs to fix it.

If you're from the NW side of Chicago and you've never seen or heard of Paterno's, then, well...then I guess you haven't heard seen or heard of Paterno's. This prominent restaurant/bar at the intersection of Milwaukee and Central has been doing it for many many many years. The usual crowd consists of neighborhood people - a lot of sports people, motorcycle people, older people smoking outside the front door, loud people, all that good stuff. Italian beef is ok, the pizza is better. Pizza in the neighbohood is abundant, and this is not my #1 place, but it is good. They do not deliver. I mean, they deliver in the sense that they provide good food, but they will not drive to your house and give it to you. Paterno's? Pater-YES!

Been picking up pizzas from here for nearly 20 years. When the one pizza chef that has been there for ever works the pizza was really great. There is a new cook now, and when he is working the pizza is awful! The last 2 times we ordered it has been bad the last time we actually threw it out because it was nasty and inedible. It was a pasty, really, really salty mess. When I called to order the pizza , the cook that answered the phone repeated back to me that I wanted it "pie cut" as I was rather emphatic that I wanted the pizza "pie cut" as we really don't like a round pizza cut into squares. Simple request one would think that a pizza pie could be pie cut. See that was me being emphatic! The pizza did not have the ingredients that I ordered and was unbelievably NOT PIE CUT! Based on recent quality issues I gave them back the pizza and asked for my money back which they did. They never apologized and lead me to believe that they really could care less. Sorry to say goodbye after all these years, will have to find a new pizza restaurant I guess.

Great dive bar spaghetti and pizza. They have the absolute freshest BUD on draft and prices are pretty reasonable. These guys have been cooking thin crust pizza for ever and season with lots of cheese and spices! Def a local favorite! Parking in the lot can be a little pain in the ass though. Better parking across the street.

last night I had paterno's cheese burger thinking with the variety of great Italian food that they serve I was curious about how they treat an American Icon of food . It was delicious .It 's amazing all their meals are very tasty. It's truly a family restaurant bring your kids.

Have been here a few times (new in the area). They have great pizza - my husband loves it as well. I also had the chicken parm sandwich which was amazing, too. The only downfall to Paterno's is... they don't deliver.

Three words: Incredible Beef Sandwich. Soooooo good. I live nowhere close to this place but will make the trip specifically for this sandwich. Juicy italian beef with melted mozzarella cheese crammed between two pieces of garlic bread. Top it with some hot giardiniera and well... I don't think I need to say anymore. You won't be disappointed.

If we're eating thin crust in Jefferson Park area, this is where we get our pizza from. They use fresh ingredients and they have figured out how to cook a good pie. Their other food is also pretty tasty. I'm a big fan of the Steak Italiano and the wife loves to get the veggie sandwich. I'd definitely recommend this place and the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because they don't deliver.

I'm from Rogers Park. I just moved to northwest side even the I have family living there don't have a regular pizza place, but now I do. Paterno's is excellent great crust quality ingredients and cooked to perfection a little well done. Finally my northwest pizza place they have great sandwiches also

I went to Paterno's for lunch yesterday, for the first time in years, and the food was much, much tastier than I had remembered it to be (score!). This is a great lunch spot, though given the age of the crowd (older) and set up (nice for groups but not exactly cozy... it looks like a good place for retired Dads to go) makes me unlikely to go there in the evening for drinks. (I had the eggplant sandwich and fries... yum!!! The bread was super soft and fresh.)

Ok I am not the typical eat in diner at Paterno's but I don't care and neither do most of the old men sitting around the bar watching what ever sports game is on. I came here with a friend and seeing how I always need to eat I gave the menu a go. The food here is pretty dam good! I was shocked everything taste fresh and homemade. The spaghetti and meatballs are delisious as are most of the pasta dishes and the pizza is pretty good to. My friend typically enjoys the sandwhiches. Overall the food is great and I never feel like I'm getting a weird stare most of them are so friendly they are happy to start a conversation with you. The decor is so very old, so you'll need to either get over that or get your food to go. Also they give out a free slice of pizza during half time when you come in to see the Bears games!

Great homemade Italian fare is the reason that I go to Paterno's. The "incredibles" are a gluttonous treat (beef, sausage, meatball or combo on garlic bread). The pasta dishes are always "al-dente" and come with garlic bread. The marinara and meat sauces are excellent. The decor is dated, but the quality of the food makes up for it.

Yep, was back here again with my man-friend last night and was pleased again. The bartender was a surprisingly young, good-natured guy and chili was quite tasty. Man-friend had the patty melt and while it slid down our throats with the grease, it was delicious and inexpensive. I do dream of this place having a better beer selection (6 taps with your standard domestics and not much else). Also, there was this crazy-like "regular" guy at the end of the bar who spent a lot of time shouting and jesting with the other "regular" patrons. He wasn't too awful, just a lot of uninvited shouting across the bar. Luckily, someone put money in the jukebox to drown him out, but he was kind of annoying, but I can't blame the bar. Also, 3 girls walked in and were whistled/catcalled at when they walked in, but they waved at the catcallers in a familiar way, so I suspect this was a routine thing between the catcallers and the catcalled. It is not perfect, it has flaws and character issues that need to be accepted, but I'm glad to have a place like this closeby.

I have NEVER encountered such a rude person as the OLD MAN at the bar. I guess he was bothered by my basic questions, What do you have on draft? Do sandwiches include fries? What type of fries do you have? After he gave me a SMART MOUTH reply - He realized I was upset; he then offered to comp the beer. I said NO THANKS and walked out. Sad, because I just moved in the neighborhood. Earlier in the week I had ordered carry-out and I thought their pizza was extremely salty. NEVER again will I give such an establishment my $$$.

Want a fancy dining area? Go someplace else. Want great pizza at a good price in a real blue collar setting? This is the right place for you. I've had the thin crust with sausage every time I've come and I left full afterwards. Great place for a big get-together with friends or co-workers since you have a large open dining area. Order a pitcher of Coke or whatever you like and have at it! This is what a Jefferson Park eatery should look like.

Got a beef here, it was pretty good ( not chewy, the cheese worked, the garlic bread good but not very garlicky). However, I doubt I'm going back again since the person I was with just ran in quick and got a menu. Instantly, they were reeking of cigarette smoke smell. If I want that, in the process of getting something to eat-I prefer Korean BBQ smoke. Seems like your average neighborhood place.

5 Star for sure on the pizza best in the neighborhood and I have tried them all. Great crust do not skimp on the ingredients never had a bad pizza there in my life. I have only had the pizza and wings both are very good and well priced. Wish I still lived in the neighborhood but dont be fooled by the outside of the place the cook some good stuff in the kitchen.

Some really good food. The sub sandwiches are fabulous, and they have a great selection anything from American to Italian ( I suggest the salami and provolone.) The pasta entrees are great as well, all the sauces are homemade, and the spaghetti aglio olio is my absolute favorite. And for some reason, I am really excited over the fact that they offer jalapeno poppers with either cream cheese, or cheddar cheese fillings. But all in all, the place is really great, just remember, when you go in there for carry out, do not make a comment about the guy taking your order and his LA Dodger's hat. Trust me on this one.

The guys that answer the phone are often rude. I've ordered from them several times and three of the four times I ordered the pizza was a little too burnt. I didn't notice until I got home and saw that they put cheese over the burnt parts so that it would be more difficult to notice. The last time I ordered pizza, there was an aftertaste that reminded me of fresh vomit. Never going again. You've been warned.

so the place is good, it has cheap beers and drinks, a good jukebox that you usually can just rock with whatever you want, though sometimes middle aged people are in there in the late afternoon wasted playing the hits of their teenage years, this is part of the entertainment of paterno's, also since it's right off the highway and at the really busy intersection of milwaukee/central/foster, a ton of weirdos wander in at random, this is good for laughs and sometimes fear but still awesome, there's a bunch of tvs for watching games and stuff, it can get busy and if you can't get a seat at the bar that's annoying but it's rarely an issue, and if it's busy it dies down by like 10 since the majority of patrons are older and need to get to bed, this one chill bro i know bartends here also, they sponsored our softball team i think, there are some regulars that may intimidate you such as a guy who has sworn off sleeves of any kind regardless of weather, i say check it out people it's cool

Just not all that good. Doesn't have to be. Most people come in this place to drink. That's the priority. Too many good places in the area to even bother with this place.

This place has been around for years - even before I was born. The pizza is pretty good but the Italian subs are something else! It's a full-blown bar too with TVs and all. It's a nice spot to sit back and have a few beers with some friends. Noisy as hell though! There's also a convenience store too right next door - Foremost Liquor Center - every kind of alcohol you'd ever want...along with some munchies in the fridges!

Nice inside, the cashier was ok alittle spirited when I was inquisitive about pricing and portion sizes. A little too pricey, but this place is usually bustling with customers. I came here on a recommendation from a friend. Looks like a nice place to hang out. Pool tables inside as well. Private parking shared with Foremost liquors. They are doing construction so be wary about getting into the lot.

Nothing I have tried has let me down here, ppl are really nice, most local gents after a work day come here. Everyone seems to know one another, the fries are good the BLT is my fav ( light on the lettuce) the pizza is the best! Cold beers on tap, a pool table, room for darts and lots of room for groups with TV's. Mostly see folks @ the bar stools but there is plenty of table seating. It's really affordable so make this your chill spot to decompress after work... ;-)

When I walked in I felt like Eddie Murphy when he walked into the red-neck bar in the movie 48hrs. A bunch of good old boys were sitting at the bar and couldn't have made me feel less welcome. I ordered a burger and it was dry and chewy. They use those cheap, frozen shoe string fries that I detest. I also ordered a slice of sausage pizza and it was so salty that I couldn't finish it. This place sucks @ss!!

Would be a lot better if there was not always the same creepy old drunk men hanging around inside and outside the place. Kinda ruins it for me.

We live in Jefferson Park, but hadn't had Paterno's. We ended up really liking the pie, but not the price. $27+ for a 16" hand-tossed with three toppings. Not competitive in this town where you can get a deep dish for that price. (Edited for spelling)

Been going here for years. The food is quality, fresh, tasty and made to order. From the Tuna salad to the pizza and everything in between. We love our pizza cracker thin, and slighty well done. The pizza chef Romero nails it everytime. The other guy Salso does now too. We do order it that way tho. Otherwise it would be thicker. Not bad, just not our preference. Angela, the young lady whom tends to be the one at the window taking order, is consistently friendly and very efficient. When we have forgotten our coupon ( you can find the coupon in the TV Facts guide,I pick mine up at the wallgreens there on Milwaukee ave) steps up and providing we met the minimum requirements she applies it for us. I truly appreciate that ,for it is good business and helps keep us coming back! you can have the best food with the worst service and we will not spend any money with you. This is not the case here. There is a woman JoJo whom is one of the family members, she makes all the specialties like the green pepper and egg sandwich on Sundays and the meatloaf and even chop suey! She is a fantastic cook. She also bar tends with her husband. They are both wonderful, welcoming, and very friendly. Always greets you with pleasantries. We have also hung out a bit there to have a few night caps. It is a older crowd with many regulars. most are very friendly and accepting . It tends to be a sports bar and therefore the jukebox is on a limited schedule. Also they will not allow for it to be turned on until 7pm to accomadaite some of the regulars whom do not like the jukebox on. I have mixed reviews on that pratice. But it isn't a deal breaker for us. This isn't your cookie cutter place. It is family owned and has been around for generations. It is a safe place with seemingly very little drama. No high spirited ,misbehaving, unruly patron's. We truly enjoy that fact. There is a pool table and a large back room with tables. A nice spot to have a beer and a family dinner (early hours 3-8). Gets packed on weekends! We have been there while families with children are doing just that. It can get a bit annoying when the parents are not monitoring their children, and the children are attempting to play pool and run into the bar area.Lets face it, this is not Chuckie Cheese! Control your kids people, not everyone thinks they are as cute as you do! All in all a great place for food, song (after 7 of course) take out and a good meeting spot. Would recommend it for homecooked food, fun &camaraderie.

My buddy recommended Paterno's for their Italian beef, explaining how they use garlic bread and melt cheese on top (called an incredible on the menu). I usually request provolone on my beef anyway, so this made ordering easier. They did not disappoint. I got about 8 of 'em for around $55, which is a good price. Everyone was very pleased. I can't speak on the pizza, but if you're looking for a different take on a traditional Italian beef sandwich, definitely come here. I recommend the Incredible Beef, with hot peppers on it, and au jus on the side for dipping.

There is a dining room, but I've rarely seen anyone in there. Food is average 1970's take-out fare. Grease city. Characters galore after 10 pm. As in automatically harassing you at the jukebox. There could be 3 people in there, and two of them will have no qualms coming up to you if you dare put in $2 to override Deep Purple. If you're ok with cheap beer, people passed out on the bar at 12 am, and getting harassed by socially-awkward, bored regulars, then you may be comfortable here.

i used to think the homogenization of america would succeed. after all, how could one place be different from another in a land populated by identical stores in identical strip malls? but over time, i realized there was no worry about that. for what makes one place different from the next is something intrinsically deeper, something that bubbles up from the soil, and will remain despite all attempts to eradicate geographical differences. what does this have to do with anything? well, as i sat waiting for my sandwich on the NW side of chicago, this was my revelation. no matter how trendy, hip, gentrified and generic a city or neighborhood may become, you can find little gems from times past sprouting up like weeds through the crack. paternos is just that place. in business since the late '30' it is what it is, it is not trying to be anything else. the horseshoe bar one sees upon entering is usually full of older neighborhood folks, nursing their cheap lagers, watching sports and making small talk. with the cop station down the road, i imagine officer friendly has a chaser after work at paternos. no tattooed hipsters here. the food? their eggplant parmesan sandwich was quite delicious, their pizza nothing spectacular but no skimping on portions here. this is not the place for local, organic dishes. but you will get alot of food at a decent price, for this is not wicker park. they have revolution IPA on tap along with the same macrobrews you would find at any local watering hole. in an era of trendiness taken to the nth degree, in an era where food and alcohol have to be themed and entertaining, its nice to see places like paternos around, culinary archeological sites evoking earlier, simpler times. i like it

Delicious soups, decent sandwiches, plenty of choices. They also make their own pizza but I haven't tried it yet. They bake their own bread, too. Very nice people work here, and apparently there are lots of regulars. There's a large dimly lit bar area as well as another adjacent, better-lit but dingy dining area. (I think the food and the prices make up for it.) Lots of TV screens in both areas to keep from getting too bored with your tablemates, although it's mostly if not always sports events. I like the place but it's not the kind of place that will impress anyone for its ambiance. I think the soups are probably the most impressive. They had a sign outside (maybe it's still there) touting 14 soups... but that really means they have 14 recipes which they rotate. Usually there are 2-4 varieties on a given day. That being said, I've never had a soup there that wasn't fabulous.

Great family dining, their menu has a variety of selections. I would recommend trying out their Italian beef with extra juice and the pizza is fantastic. For catering definitely the lasagna. Great customer service. The people are very friendly and welcoming.

I hate to have to drop a star, almost two. Let me explain the updated review. I went here for dinner and ordered the Incredible Beef with fries. I'll say the beef was great. The problem is Paterno's changed their fries. Oh Paterno's, why did you change the fries? The new fries are the crispy coated fries, which I can't stand. I don't like them enough, that I will limit my orders and go elsewhere. I really like the other food I've had here at Paterno's. I will not be ordering something with fries, which is unfortunate, I really like the Incredible Beef!

I'm kind of torn... On the one hand: they have a huge menu (I love love love variety), great pizza, ah-mazing Italian beef, and for the most part all around good food! Most of the people there are really nice, the food is out fast and you get to watch a bit of tv while waiting. But on the other: They don't deliver which can be a bummer and it seems every time I order over the phone my food gets screwed up. They will honor and try to fix the screw up but I don't want to have to drive back and forth after working all day. (and one time I heard one of the (cooks?) talking S#!T in the back ground when I called. So I'm starting to wonder if the good food out weighs the crappy service.....

Paterno's is like good booty call... fast, discreet, tasty, and on occasion, regrettable I just call and say "hey meatball sandwich.. cheese and hot peppers, " 15 minutes later i'm chowing down. Thats the extent of our relationship and I don't want to take it to the next level.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

(5)Robert A.
last night I had paterno's cheese burger thinking with the variety of great Italian food that they serve I was curious about how they treat an American Icon of food . It was delicious .It 's amazing all their meals are very tasty. It's truly a family restaurant bring your kids.
(5)Andrea M.
Have been here a few times (new in the area). They have great pizza - my husband loves it as well. I also had the chicken parm sandwich which was amazing, too. The only downfall to Paterno's is... they don't deliver.
(4)Shelby N.
CAme for lunch with a group. We ordered a pizza which i think had the works on it. And a salad. Pretty good, pretty good.
(3)David L.
(4)Chad L.
(4)Michael R.
I'm from Rogers Park. I just moved to northwest side even the I have family living there don't have a regular pizza place, but now I do. Paterno's is excellent great crust quality ingredients and cooked to perfection a little well done. Finally my northwest pizza place they have great sandwiches also
(4)Valerie R.
(3)Bari L.
(4)Chris M.
Finally Found A Pizza Place I Will Stick With Great pizza, and fried dough!!!
(5)Joan L.

(4)Windy C.

No Frills REAL Chicago atmosphere. Amazing food. Product is SOO good that it's addictive.
(4)bob j.
beef was GREAT! pizza was pretty good, service fair
(4)Mike M.
went in and had the eggplant parmigian and two fish tacos. Everything tasted fresh and there are tables to eat there. very neighborhoodish but in a god way.
(4)Mike O.
(4)K R.
(2)Ryan G.
(5)Michelle H.
(5)Raymond P.

(5)Jay W.
Just not all that good. Doesn't have to be. Most people come in this place to drink. That's the priority. Too many good places in the area to even bother with this place.
(2)Marian L.
(5)Sabrina L.
Great incredible beef! Good pizza, but very pricey!
(4)Gerry X.
(4)K C.
It's really affordable so make this your chill spot to decompress after work... ;-)
(5)Foodie G.
(1)Liz P.
Would be a lot better if there was not always the same creepy old drunk men hanging around inside and outside the place. Kinda ruins it for me.
(3)R B.
We live in Jefferson Park, but hadn't had Paterno's. We ended up really liking the pie, but not the price. $27+ for a 16" hand-tossed with three toppings. Not competitive in this town where you can get a deep dish for that price. (Edited for spelling)
(3)Patricia F.
(4)David F.
(5)Tom M.
Great old school place, with an awesome liquor store next door. Get The Incredible Beef! It's, um, incredible...
(4)Al D.
If you're ok with cheap beer, people passed out on the bar at 12 am, and getting harassed by socially-awkward, bored regulars, then you may be comfortable here.

i used to think the homogenization of america would succeed. after all, how could one place be different from another in a land populated by identical stores in identical strip malls? but over time, i realized there was no worry about that. for what makes one place different from the next is something intrinsically deeper, something that bubbles up from the soil, and will remain despite all attempts to eradicate geographical differences. what does this have to do with anything? well, as i sat waiting for my sandwich on the NW side of chicago, this was my revelation. no matter how trendy, hip, gentrified and generic a city or neighborhood may become, you can find little gems from times past sprouting up like weeds through the crack. paternos is just that place. in business since the late '30' it is what it is, it is not trying to be anything else. the horseshoe bar one sees upon entering is usually full of older neighborhood folks, nursing their cheap lagers, watching sports and making small talk. with the cop station down the road, i imagine officer friendly has a chaser after work at paternos. no tattooed hipsters here. the food? their eggplant parmesan sandwich was quite delicious, their pizza nothing spectacular but no skimping on portions here. this is not the place for local, organic dishes. but you will get alot of food at a decent price, for this is not wicker park. they have revolution IPA on tap along with the same macrobrews you would find at any local watering hole. in an era of trendiness taken to the nth degree, in an era where food and alcohol have to be themed and entertaining, its nice to see places like paternos around, culinary archeological sites evoking earlier, simpler times. i like it
(3)tomas a.
Used to go here at least once a week with my coworkers but after realizing that they charged for every little thing like extra sauce or extra salad dressing etc we stopped going and there not really that reasonable priced at all mixed in with the workers additudes we just avoid it now
(3)Sid P.
(4)Jose V.
Great family dining, their menu has a variety of selections. I would recommend trying out their Italian beef with extra juice and the pizza is fantastic. For catering definitely the lasagna. Great customer service. The people are very friendly and welcoming.
(5)Tom Z.
(3)Kevin M.
Burgers are great, chicken Parmesan sandwich is very good too. Pizza is not the best though. I recommend highly!
(5)Ralaina B.
(3)Kevin Z.
