This place has the best Mexican ice palentas (ice cream pops). Mexican ice cream is one of the things I often miss about Mexico since American ice cream is just too superficial tasting and sweet for me. Monarca makes ice cream using real ingredients and you can taste it. Some of my favorites are: Nuez/Walnut (leche/milk), Arroz con leche/ mexican rice pudding (leche), Piña Colada (leche), Mamey (leche), Tamarindo (water). I like the milk paletas a little more because they have a very rich delicious flavor and the water paletas taste a little more simple.

MEXICAN ICES. mango and cherry, made fresh everyday. Don't miss it!! I eat less on nights I want these Mexican Ices. As I said, fresh , with real fruit. Amazing!!

Great ice cream selection with generous serving sizes. Friendly workers as well. Looks like they have lots of interesting things here I will have to try over time.

Have loved these for years. Flagged one of the bike cart vendor guys for my first Monarch of the year today--strawberry milk. These are so, so good. Yay summer!

Mmmm! I think I might have a new favorite flavor here: Mamey. Kind of like a fruit halfway between papaya and mango, it's sooo good in a paleta.

This place is great! I was coming home from church and i decided to stop by here because i've always been curious about it and it was DELICIOUS!! I loved it because i got so much italian ice for the price i paid. I got a small and got what most places would call a large or JUMBO! It was great, and delicious, i have some left from the small i got yesterday and I have to go back tomorrow to get some more, make sure you try out their italian ice and make sure to try their tamarind and strawberry! :)

This is the hidden gem of Rogers Park. I had a hibiscus and pineapple ice sorbet. My husband got a lemon with fruit chunks. They were all so good and better than expected, really one of the best I had. Their small starts out at 12oz($2.59) and it a big heaping cup. It's equivalent to medium or large downtown. My husband got a medium which was more like a large/xlarge($3.19) and I think it was 16oz. It's a full ice cream shop and then some. Ice cream prices are very reasonable. I'm so excited that I should have started going last summer.

You can hunt down one of the bike-cart guys for a paleta or two (which is still the way to go if you're at the beach), or you can drive down Clark Street and stuff your freezer with an assortment. They always taste fresh (I'm assuming they're made pretty much with real fruit or fruit juice, maybe some sugar and not a whole lot more), and you can find bunches of familiar and more exotic tropical flavors. The coconut is like a suntan on a stick. Also your choice of water- or milk-based. As others have pointed out, they have other frozen treats and snacks as well. They seem to be closed in winter.

I have to admit that I've only been here once and went in only because I was missing the taste of paletas (Mexican ice pops) from San Antonio. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they served much more than paletas at La Monarca. There is a whole ice cream shop plus some snacks like nachos or fries. I will definitely go back the next time I'm craving a paleta (any flavor you can imagine) or a scoop of ice cream/ frozen yogurt. I will update again when I taste the other items, but the paletas are definitely ok.

They have several types of paletas (both with and without milk). I tried one and we bought a few to take home. They make them on site which is a nice perk. My wife got a sunday which was great as well. Prices are very reasonable! Check it out you wont be dissapointed.
