Came here for take out lunch on a cold rainy day in late April, hoping it would serve at comfort food. The place is cute and service was quick. They gave us the wrong to-go bag, luckily we checked in the car and had to exchange. The meatball sandwich: excellent chewy crusty bread. Meatball was delicious and tender. Cheese had great flavor and giardinara added perfect acidity. The failure however was not enough sauce. The sandwich ended up being a bit dry. The chicken parm sandwich: like the meatball problem but worse - there was near no sauce on the sandwich. I think they might have forgotten. The cheese melted into the bread and congealed. It was a dry chewy oily heavy sandwich missing the bright acid and moisture of marinara. Total waste of $9. Chicken was above average taste and cooked well. The salt and vinegar chips - decent, but not worth $3 - lacked vinegar. The broccoli salad - mushy limp broccoli with a brownish color. Definitely tasted old. A waste at $4. Overall, I will not return. For $9 subs with 4 ingredients they should be consistently near perfect and the lack of marinara just ruined both. Try conti de savoia on Taylor for a meatball sandwich instead.

Live in the neighborhood so I gave it three shots. Chicken parmesan was solid rubber, you couldn't even chew it. They gave us a free sandwich so we tried again. The tuna had hardly any ingredients and was made on bread you could pound a nail with. The turkey was good and the meatball was just ok. Too expensive and its like they aren't putting any effort into the food. Bummed since it's so close. Won't be back.

('Cause I'm n luv wit a sandwich) She poppin', she rollin', she rollin' She climbin' that pole and (I'm n luv wit a sandwich) She trippin', she playin', she playin' I'm not goin' nowhere, girl, I'm stayin' Chicken parm was the real deal. Skip the homemade chips as they are average at best. Meatball sub was good but needs more balls. Nice to have a QSR in the area.

This place is tiny but quaint with excellent sandwiches. I wandered in when I was in the neighborhood and in need of quick bite. The dining area consists of four barstools under a shelf, but it works. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the food is top notch. The bread on the sandwich is just the right in terms of bite and size, and the toppings were delicious. Additionally, the homemade chips are a nice touch. They're thick, but still crunchy, and liberally seasoned with salt and pepper. It would be great if they had fountain drinks instead of cans, but the place is so tiny I'm not sure where they'd put it. These savory sandwiches are best enjoyed elsewhere as the dining area is quite cramped.

It's a tiny little sandwich shop. By tiny, I mean their seating capacity is 4. But their Chicken Parmesan sandwich was anything but small. There is some severe over compensation going on here! The sandwich weighed a pound and I'm only slightly exaggerating! The menu has surprising variety and I had a hard time deciding what to get as everything sounded so good! The cashier was friendly and chatted with me while the sandwich was being prepared in the kitchen in the back. The wait for the sandwich was about ten minutes which was not too bad.. But this is no fast food. The sandwich was delicious and saucy! Loads of chicken parm and marinara sauce with the occasional piece of basil. Delicious!! The meatball sandwich was amazing as well. Loads of meat and sauce which is how I like my sandwich. My wife had the Italian sandwich and complained that the sour dough bread was too hard. I would have to agree with her that for an Italian sandwich the bread was too hard... I like my Italian sandwiches on bread that is as soft as a pillow. It is a perfect addition to the west loop's, severely lacking, to-go restaurant scene. Ratings: Meatball sandwich: 4/5 Chicken Parmesan sandwich: 4/5

The area needs more quick take out spots so are happy with this addition. We got the ever so popular meatball and chicken parm sandwiches. Both were good. Good enough that we will definitely be back. Bread was delicious and easy to bite into- which is worth mentioning. Nothing worse than a big sandwich that you can't bite! Another highlight were their chips- salt and vinegar and so so good. One less star for really tough parking and also lack of marinara sauce. Next time we will ask for extra! Hardly any at all and made sandwiches quite dry. Now if only we could get some good salad take out spots! This lunch is not light, ladies.

Five star sandwiches - I came here on one of their first days open and had an amazing chicken parm sandwich. They're not cheap (9 bucks, roughly, for a sandwich) but they are really generous portions, and amazing quality. I'll be trying the meatball one soon. Minus a star for some pretty skimpy sides. I'd skip the side unless you were doing their meal deal (I think it's 12 bucks for sammich, side and drink). They also have some Italian style cookies on the side - perfect side for snapping up a sweet bite or two if you don't want an enormous dessert. Will definitely try again.

This is not a place to go when you're looking to count calories. In fact, this is the type of place where the sandwiches are so hearty you can eat them for dinner. I'd recommend that especially if you're going with the meatball sandwich. Gigantic meatballs in a sloppy, beautifully messy sauce/bread combo. The meatballs are so big that you need to open the sandwich, cut them and redistribute around the bread. Some may find this annoying but I think it's perfect. All sandwiches are phenomenal but chicky parm not as good as PQM just a few blocks away. Their delivery service is very good, meaning that the delivery folks are nice and usually pretty fast. We do live close so that might help with the delivery time. My wife has only ordered the Eggplant Parmesan because it's hearty and yet a vegetarian sandwich. It's delicious. I'm excited to go back and try the Italian Beef sandwich to see how it compares to Al's and Portillo's. Their desserts are also excellent but if you wait until dinnertime they may have a limited selection. The cookies and bombolini are really good. Mangia!

Overall, this place is really hit or miss and not a good value. The sandwiches range from poor to good. Most recently, I had a tuna and pepper sandwich which was mostly tartar sauce and bread- a total failure. I previously had the eggplant parmesan sandwich, which was good. It's much heavier than what I usually eat, so I just don't see myself getting that sandwich with any regularity. Their sides are abysmal. We've had the beets and mozzarella, arugula pesto pasta, and charred broccoli and didn't like any of them. If you get a sandwich and a side, the total is around $15 which really feels excessive given the quality. Nonna's recently started selling house made ice cream. The Nutella crunch and vanilla flavors were really good; the pistachio and caramel were not quite at Whole Foods level (but pricier). We got a slice of their chocolate cake and it was truly delicious, but a bit on the small side. Nonna's is actually the only thing stopping me from going to the main restaurant Formento's. If they have issues making cheap food like sandwiches consistently good, what am I going to get over there? I'm not sure how this will end up for Nonna's since it's flanked by superior sandwich options. Among others, PQM (the city's best sandwich) is within walking distance and Graziano's (top-shelf Italian classics) is barely a block away. I'd go to either of those places before going back to Nonna's.

A nice break in a city filled with Subway's, Jimmy John's, and Potbelly's. Nonna's has many of the subs (or grinders) that I grew eating in the Northeast - sub options such as: - CHICKEN PARMESAN - EGGPLANT PARMESAN - MEATBALL I had the chicken parm and it was good. Was it worth $10 for the size and taste? Probably not but it's nice to have the option.

Had the Beef. Definitely a different take on Italian beef. The horseradish aioli was pretty damn good. Again, alot different than the traditional beef but no complaints. Tasted very fresh, no food coma. Bread was crispy, held up nice. Served with a side of au jus. Would eat there again.

Just picked up a meatball salad on my walk home. The meatballs are so incredibly salty, my tongue hurts, and I am literally sweating. The salad portion is 95% iceberg lettuce with a few thin pieces of mortadella and a couple of chickpeas. Blah, no thanks. Never again.

BEST chicken parmigiana sandwich in the city. Trust me! I've had way too many of these (I should be embarassed, but I'm not and never will be). The staff is also really friendly and hospitable. There's a bit of a wait, but I guess it shows in the quality (and portion) of the food. Those donut things are also really really great (and dangerous, for my waist line, mostly).

Finally a good place that delivers downtown that isn't an overpriced restaurant or terrible Chinese. Everything we had was delish. Broccoli salad, antipasti, eggplant and chicken parm, and chips. Owners seem nice since they gave us bomboloni for free! Would definitely order here again.

After a mixed dining experience next door we decided to get Nonnas take out tonight and I am not sorry we did. First off I will say that we had previously walked by and seen a mortadella hot dog on the menu which had gotten us very excited but when we went in tonight we were disappointed to see it had been removed from the menu. We settled on a chicken parm sandwich and a meatball salad. Let's start with the sandwich, bravo Nonna's! It was great. Maybe the chicken wasn't the stand out, but the bread and was it garlic on the bread? Mom, that made it fantastic. Now onto the salad, the meatballs are solid and we have had them at Formentos as well. I also enjoyed the antipasti salad that tit was served with. The only thing that brought it down 1 star for me is the dressing...so sweet. I think it would have been better with a more basic red wine vinegar dressing. Otherwise very good. The girl working the counter tonight was fantastic and fun to talk to and we still do have our little donut hole dessert to try later so we will see what we think of that!

Stopped in today ordered wedding soup and Chicken Parmesan sandwich. The soup was tasty but a very small portion for $5.00. Sandwich also pretty tasty but lots of bun and not much chicken. Also nowhere to sit inside except a couple counter seats. There are definitely better lunch places close by.

Live in the neighborhood, and was very excited to try this place! The sandwich was 5 stars. I had the meatball sub - it was amazing and a generous size. Minus one star though for the sides. Go for the sandwiches, but skip the sides and you will be happy!

five stars for sandwiches, a point off for the so-so sides their sandwiches are solid - meatball was delicious, as was the mozzarella which was deep fried goodness. i was blown away by how great the sandwiches were. last week i had the chicken parmesan which was also amazing sides were a let down - caesar salad was bland, not enough dressing or flavor, with three lonely croutons. great neighborhood place to grab a quick bite to eat, just focus on the sandwiches and you won't be disappointed

Not sure where you've been but this is not a five star chicken parmesan sandwich/ totally average at best! Start with the bread/roll.. It's definitely good...Crusty Sourdough. Mine had two small pieces of that stringy chicken with no consistency whatsoever on each side? Hardly any cheese or sauce as well.. The sauce had good flavor but definitely not enough. For $10 I felt like it was something you could make better at home or get at the airport! I'll prob go back to try a few more things but they need to step it up that's for sure

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
