This is our go-to sushi place for delivery -- it's amazing!! The sushi is consistently delicious and well-made, and despite being delivery (usually sushi and delivery don't mix) we have never had a bad experience! We were ordering sushi from Moku almost every week for a while because we just couldn't believe the quality. I've tried other sushi places (in person!) around town and nothing has compared to Moku with regard to taste or quality. Definitely give it a try!

I just did carry out here and it is amazing! Usually you think that sushi for carryout is a bad idea but this was just as fresh and beautiful. They even labeled what roll was what on the packaging. To too it all off they have us free edamame!!! Yum! The Godzilla and the crunchy spicy tuna roll is amazing. My bf got the Alaska and the white shark and he seems pretty happy too. I've only had it one other time and it was for dine in. The staff is super friendly and attentive. I'll be here again. Thanks guys :)

Close to home. Great sushi for the price. The decor is simple and could use some updating but it's not too bad. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Used to go to the Rakki Kyu next door but the quality has gone way down since November 2013. Would choose this place over them any day.

We must have gone on an off night judging by the other reviews. First of all, I think they were short staffed because there was only one sushi chef and one waitress for the entire restaurant. The food took forever to come out and when it did, it was slightly underwhelming. I really liked the 'crispy' roll but that was about it. Maybe we will give it another go some other time.

Was a little skeptical (to say the least) when the cab pulled up today and noticed that Kin was gone and Moku was in its place. Menu was a little different. Decor was a little different. Waitress was different. Thankfully, thankfully, thankfully the food was so delish!!!! Very fresh and so tasty. Best sushi I have had in a while. Oh, and it's BYOB and very affordable. Can't wait to go back!!!!

I LOVE Moku Sushi. I've only ever had delivery from them so I can't comment on their restaurant or service, but their delivery is fantastic. Sushi comes temperature appropriate (for hot or cold rolls) everything is neatly labeled and nothing is unkempt or messy. Fantastic quality fish and rolls- I am consistently thrilled with their service!

Nice place, great sushi. Very fresh fish. Had nigiri and maki, both were outstanding and reasonably price. Great service too. Even got a free thai iced tea because it was so hot outside. Definitely will go back. Oh, BYOB too! Cant beat it.

This place has gone downhill. The waitress gave us the wrong plates for sushi so instead switching them my fiancee switched them and dropped it spilling some of the sushi off the plate. Yes it was our fault, kinda, but the waitress barely reacted and asked us "do you want another plate?" How was this even a question?? It was embarrassing enough dropping food but to have to ask for new food...the sushi also tasted a bit too fishy. I'll go down two doors to Kyu Sushi instead now. So sad because before this place re-opened under a different name it was much better.

Service at this place was very fast and good, but we were also the only people there on a Sunday evening. Server is very friendly, food was decent, nothing out of normal. Prices are competitive with the local sushi places. Facility was clean and organized, this place has been in the neighborhood for a while but it's still considered new.

Best sushi I've ever had in my life. And they guessed correctly who ordered what, put everything in separate containers (we ordered delivery). Loved it.
(5)Rachel S.
I love the laid back atmosphere. The food here is great for a local sushi place. If you're trying to be in an out of a place in 20 minutes, this place may not be for you. Overall it was a great experience. 4 out of 5 stars because when I first walked in there wasn't a single person inside which made me a little nervous since it was my first time here. Once I sat by the window though more customers came in. Hopefully this place stays open because it's just a quick walk for me.

Just average. Good service, but nothing exceptional about the food.
(3)Ginny K.
The fish is fantastic, the chefs are fantastic and creative and everyone is so nice. Best new sushi place around by far.
(5)Victoria D.
Never order from here! Edamame was soggy, gyoza was burnt, Sake Sashimi smelled and tasted horrible, and the philly roll was the worst I have ever had! Definitely a waste of money!

Love this place! Great go to sushi delivery.

Oh little Moku Sushi. I have happy tummy lunch special thanks to you. For twelve cold I get Salmon, Tempura, Rice, Miso Soup and salad with that bomb ass ginger dressing. The perfect lunch. I think I would eat lunch here everyday if the following requirements, I could meet (when you talk like yoda, is it good grammar to use that comma after requirements? Much debate on that subject, we must have). Numero One: I have an unlimited budget for lunch time snacking. Numero number the next one: Assuming qualification numero one has been met, then I would take my new lunch budget surplus and visit every restaurant in the city. It's kind of a catch 22. The planets just won't align on this one. Stupid planets. Everyone there is always smiling when they talk to me. What's the deal with that. But seriously, why do you always give me a fork? Is there some kind of VIP card I can carry around so that people know how bad ass fluent I am with chop sticks? I'll be that guy that brings his own chop sticks. Yeah, I'll be that guy. Then people will know how serious I am about my master chop stickery. Keep it gangsta, Moku.

2 hours of an empty restaurant is a giant RED flag. Worst sushi dining experience I've ever endured. First, there was only one person working when I first arrived: the server. Unfortunately, she did not speak English very well, which made my menu questions and ordering requests a frustration. As a foreigner myself, I understand the necessity of practicing communication with English-speakers. Yet when a server has difficulties comprehending rather basic questions, perhaps it'd be best for another arrangement. She was, however, sweet and apologetic. Hence the additional star. The worst part of my dining experience was the food! Miso soup was basically a hot broth. There was no substance and only 2 pieces of tofu. As soon as the chefs returned from an errand through the front door, I noticed the main chef swiftly washed his hands. Twice. Great, I thought, a culinary employee following safety rules. But then came the worst part- absolutely tasteless sushi rolls. The fish appeared fresh (aka did not smell fishy), but was absolutely drab. All of the time chewing my terrible dinner, I tried to pinpoint the blame. Was it the chewy seaweed? Was the rice overlooked? Whatever it was, I left hungry and will not return. Ps. I got home and was sick the entire night.

My boyfriend and I discovered Moku Sushi about one year ago after attending a Chicago Bulls game. It was by far some of the best sushi I have ever eaten. We have been back numerous times via dine in and carry out. We have told all our friends about this great little place. My boyfriend took me to dinner tonight to celebrate a special accomplishment. I was so excited to go to Moku and brought a bottle of wine. We decided we would go to dinner around 8 PM, since it was a late date night for us. I have been waiting to go to this place for at least a month and have constantly told him my excitement to go here. We always drive about one full hour to come to this place, and every time until now the drive is al ways worth it. Granted, every time we have came to eat at this restaurant there is typically only one other couple at most dining inside the restaurant. We always said it was a shame more people weren't aware of this hidden gem. After how many times we have dined here, we always order at least 5-6 rolls and tip well. However, tonight was by far one of my most disappointing times at Moku to a point I will probably never return. Once we arrived, we were highly consumed by the "CLOSED" sign on the door, and the lit up "OPEN" sign in the window. So, we decide to go in because I figured it must have been a mistake since all websites started the hours of operation were until 10 PM. We walked in and there were two tables and a lady host. We asked if they were closed and she said, "Yes, because see we are busy tonight." I mean I guess for their regular pace it was busy. One table was finishing dinner while another table was ordering. We were in absolute no rush and would have waited patiently for our rolls to be prepared. I said, "You're not open until 10 PM like you normally are." The host said, "No, not tonight". So, we left. We discovered Butterfly Sushi on Madison. The food was great. The hostess there was more than willing to accommodate us and be appreciative we were there. I felt more welcomed at Butterfuly and wanted to give them my business. People have many options of restaurants in Chicago, and when expectations are not met. Watch out because you're competitors are right around the corner, literally. THE BEST PART, we were driving back from Butterfly and was back on Ashland I looked up and saw Moku. People were still dining in there, and they actually had another table full and was serving then. I'm not sure when that table was able to walk into a "CLOSED" establishment and order. So disappointed by one of my most favorite places in Chicago. The hunt will go on, and I will find somewhere equally as good.

I'm coming out of Yelp retirement to talk to yall about Moku. It's only a three minute walk from my house and is my default sushi place because not only are the staff super friendly and efficient, but the food is awesome. I dream about the Aloha, Pirate, Spicy Scallop, and Sweet Potato rolls constantly! Some of the very best sushi I've had in the city. I've never been disappointed, honestly. So please eat here and give them lots of money. I don't want to see it go under. Ok thanks!

I just had dinner here with a friend last night and it was delicious! The sushi was incredibly fresh... I recommend the hamachi appetizer. The service was amazing. They even offered us a free roll so we could critique it and help this new restaurant improve. The prices were very reasonable and I feel like you get a great meal for the price. I will definitely be coming back here!!

I had seen that there was another sushi spot added along the Ashland Avenue strip close to where I live, and had to try it out. I had gotten carry-out as I was anxious to get home to watch more Olympics. I had gotten the Moku and hte Summer roll, both were fresh and tasty. The prices are slightly higher than a couple of other places, but still flavor and presentation is right on par. They gave me the perfect amount of wasabi and ginger. The hostess was very friendly when I came in to pick up, and I would definitely consider coming back.

Moku is is couple blocks away, we decided to get carry-out last week. We chose six maki rolls, and since we ordered $35+, they threw in an extra Ebi roll. (Sweet, I'll take it!) It was an appropriate wait time for what we ordered. When we got home, the two plastic boxes were packed efficiently without being crushed, our food was neatly and colorfully presented, and the name of each roll labeled on the plastic above with marker. My favorites were the Summer, Boston, and Sweet Potato rolls. Some of the other rolls we ordered had very similar ingredients so I'm looking forward to trying a broader array next time.... and I will definitely be back.

This place was so bad, my boyfriend and I ended up going two doors down to Kyu immediately following this dinner to try and make up for how horrible it was. My boyfriend and I went here fairly late on a weeknight- there was no wait, and we were sat immediately. The seating seems extremely close to me- I'm a small person, and I was worried about knocking over items on the neighboring table when I tried to squeeze through the gap between the tables. There also weren't all that many people dining, and now I understand why: * Drink: um, they don't serve green tea? What the hell kind of sushi place doesn't offer green tea, or hot tea of any sort?! Our food took incredibly long to prepare... so as an apology, they brought out edamame to snack on. I guess I appreciate the customer service involved in that, but it was terrible edamame. * Appetizer: the edamame was so overcooked that the beans were squishy and some of the pods were burnt. Visibly burnt. Aren't they supposed to be steamed? How the hell do you burn a steamed food, Moku? * Main: the beef teriyaki had bone bits still attached to it. At least three of the pieces had "Surprise, there's a bone in there!" moments. The rice served with it was hard and cold. Seriously, the rice from my own rice cooker is better! The miso soup wasn't really special, but was certainly edible. Surprisingly, the little bit of green salad on the plate was really tasty with the accompanying dressing. * Sushi: I only tried one piece of my boyfriend's tako, and it was rubbery. He didn't like it, either. Our server didn't know what cut of tuna (akami, toro, chutoro, o-toro) they had for the 'Maguro' menu listing, either. And he never asked the sushi chef, therefore never giving us an answer, so we never ended up ordering it. I was honestly a little creeped out by our host staring at us while we ate. I guess if it had been busier, he wouldn't have had the free time to stare. Our service was slow, but they tried to compensate with free food. That counts for something, and is the reason for the one star that this place gets from me. Otherwise, no stars for you, Moku!

Delicious sushi and great value, just a tad slow on the service. Will come back again.

I came in here by myself Friday night with a sushi craving and some time to kill. There was only one other couple in the restaurant. The waitress was very attentive and helpful, gave me enough time and space when needed. The miso soup was right on point. Sea weed salad had way too much of the vinegar based dressing; if it wasn't for the cucumber layer between the sea weed and the dressing at the bottom, it would've been overbearing. Since I was by myself I was looking for just one signature roll. I ended up going with the C4, as my curiosity was piqued by the idea of a deep fried roll. Warning - this is a 10 piece roll! In the most positive sense, it was like eating a sushi donut. Because it is so rich, one or two pieces would be enough mixed in with other maki. Overall average place. Chances are I'll be sticking with Butterfly when I get another sushi craving.

Stumbled unto this cute little place after wandering the Renegade Arts Fest. It was really cute. I like the decor and the staff were friendly. The food was just fine. We had some miso soup and rolls. Haven't tried the sahimi so don't have a really accurate picture of how the fish quality is. Iif I lived in the neighborhood or if I am rambling about the neigborhood, I might stumble in again.

My husband and I are always in the hunt for good sushi. I was excited when this place popped up just a few blocks away! I just got the lunch special today with the hamachi roll, Boston roll, and miso soup for $11. It was very fresh and tasty! There are so many specialty maki rolls on their menu that I cannot wait to try! The decor inside is very modern and it's BYOB! Very nice customer service too.
(5)Megan B.
Eh, just average. I'm still a much greater fan of kyu next door. I think Moku is a bit overpriced for what they are offering as well.
(3)Diana R.
Not sure what all the fuss is about. I didn't find anything too special about the food. I had tht Moku maki, shrimp shumai, and Thai iced tea (which was too sweet). I didn't feel the love that went into making any of the food, so I didn't really enjoy it. Its like they didn't put a lot of care into any of it. Sad because I had high expectations of this place... I'd say maybe go for the atmosphere but that's it.
(3)Stephanie T.
I love this place. The fish is always fresh and the service is great. This is definitely my go-to sushi place!
(5)Christina N.
My boyfriend took me here where we ordered 4 or 5 rolls, which ended up being more pieces than expected. I ended up getting Miso soup as an appetizer, so they gave my boyfriend one on the house. We were the only ones in the place at the time and the waitress came over often enough without being annoying. Not too present, but not too absent. Definitely going back. Fun atmosphere. Good prices. Non-annoying waitress. Updating as of 9/17/13 down to 3 stars from 5. My boyfriend and I went back twice recently. The first time, the menu changed and not for the better. The prices seemed to have gone up while the rolls got weirder. The Sweet Potato Maki roll use to just be tempura-ed sweet potato, rice, unagi sauce, and maybe avocado or something. They added cream cheese and put the price up $2 more. The second time we went back, it was 94 degrees out and they had no air conditioning. We received no warning of this and it seemed as if they weren't going to acknowledge it. After about 2 minutes, it was so incredibly uncomfortable that we left. This isn't going to be out normal spot anymore.

Excellent sushi - large pieces of fresh fish over rice, as the sushi gods intended. By far, the best value I've found in Chicago. The restaurant is generally empty which might give the impression of unpopularity. However, I think they get most of their business online or from takeout judging by all of the orders the chef was preparing the one time I did dine in. They have a couple of rolls that really stand out: The S'mor roll has salmon and avocado on top with spicy scallop inside. The summer roll is tuna, salmon, cilantro, and jalapeno with chili oil. If you are a vegetarian, you may want to try the sweet potato tempura roll. It tastes like dessert.
(5)Johnny C.
This place was ok. Positives: the service was friendly and food came up quickly. The rolls were decent but there was one glaring issue: the pieces were cut too large. This is a big problem when a roll has no contrasting textures. 2 of the 3 we tried turned from nice looking rolls to giant balls of mush in my mouth. Not fun to chew. If you do try this place, stick to the Maki selections where you get contrasting textures (i.e. something fried or roe on top) which make the oversize pieces more palatable. Decent experience, if I lived across the street I might return. But since West Town is quickly becoming the Sushi capital of Chicago, they need to do better to really stand out.
(3)Haven M.
Awesome place, awesome service, and excellent delicious sushi!! Everything was so fresh!! If you haven't been, I suggest you go! Forget all the trendy places like Butterfly and Coast, go here for real authentic Japanese sushi!!!
(5)L L.
You should go here. Went last night with 2 friends and it was empty, which was scary, but the food was great, fresh, and well presented. It did start filling in a little during the latter half of our meal but it should be busier than it was. I picked this place over the other spot a few doors down because it had a better mix on the menu. Other spot seemed to have more battered, sauced, cream cheese options and not as many "purist" options like Moku did. Help these people survive, I felt horrible about it being so bare. Will be ordering grubhub as well from here!
(4)B J.
Delicious sushi, friendliest staff in the city, free appetizers, and very reasonably priced. They also now have BYOB which makes it even better for next time. I don't know why people pass this place up for others in the area. No wait, and great atmosphere and the food tastes just as good if not better than their neighbor. Sold.
