This place reps Mexican food sooooooo well. Legit, so damn good! I ordered a Mexican Coke to wake me up. Sugar cane and caffeine, always hooks up the necessary jolt. I had the chilaquiles Yucatecos. Yucatan, represent! Habanero and roasted tomato salsa blessed my chilaquiles in the most extraordinary way. I ordered egg whites and black beans to finish off this epic dish. Whew, just the right amount of spice factor, creamy black beans made out with my palate, and avocado loved on my taste buds. I'm a fan. They do it up, do it right, get it done in the bestest of ways.

We came here for Cinco de Mayo with reservations. It was quite busy so we had to wait for while to get seated anyway. We were then seated but away from the lively, colorful atmosphere downstairs to a drab ordinary area upstairs. It felt little like we were the bad children being put away cuz we can hear the lively music and sounds from the main floor but can't be apart of it. The restaurant was nice enough to send up the 9 person mariachi band to entertain the 3 tables upstairs (only 9 customers). This was actually pretty good band...I'm no expert though. I don't remember seeing this at Los Nopales. As we were seated upstairs and it was a busy night, it took a while to get our drinks and to order food. it took some time to get our food too. Service was quite hospitable and apologetic throughout dinner. A lot of us got the mango margarita - quite tasty. The food was pretty darn great (this is coming from someone who doesn't prefer Mexican usually unless it's authentic). I was a little torn about the menu and prices since I rarely want to pay a lot for Mexican food....I am one of those people that like tamales and tortas from the local places in Pilsen. Anyways, i had the camarones chipotle (shrimp with chipotle sauce and rice) and it was soooooo tasty! I got to also try the costillas (baby back ribs smothered in some fusion bbq sauce) which was just fall of the bone tender. We were thinking to order dessert (I remember liking the guava cheesecake as their sister restaurant) but we opted against it as we felt that it may have taken a while to us upstairs :( In the end, the food was good and the service was hospitable. I am looking forward to coming back to try again someday.

Really good restaurant - the quality and authentic taste of the food, the ambiance, and the customer service were all very good. Prices are reasonable. The biggest problem is finding parking in the area! It took us about 15 minutes to find a space and then we had at least a five minute walk. Definitely worth a visit.

Good service, good margaritas, nice true Mexican dishes well made from quality ingredients and some of the best enchiladas in Salsa Verde I've ever had. On a side note, their rice and refried beans are not just for plate decoration like I've had at other places, but simply AMAZING! :) Great neighborhood spot!

This was delicious! I always walk by here but somehow never noticed this place before. Service was great, and both the enchiladas and the mango margarita were awesome.
Yummmm. This just became our new go to Mexican spot in the neighborhood. Service was great! Drinks were strong and flavorful! We both ordered the chicken enchiladas. Hands down the best I've had in years. They were cheesy and gooey and the chicken was cooked to perfection. At the end of our visit the mariachi band came down from the upstairs area to play a few songs. It was a perfect way to end the evening.

I have been looking at the food online and it looked soooo good so a few friends and I went on a saturday night. One dish was a little bit too salty but still Excellent food and attentive service. I will be back very soon and will check out the brunch for sure.

First time there. Excellent carne asada, quality meat, very nice charcoal grill flavor, done perfectly(medium well). Everything tasted above average. Service was very good, with the exception of it being a tad slow when it came to ordering the main course, it did improve afterwards. The salsa.....tasty but I prefer more flavor & heat. Margarita was very good, w/out being overly boozy or acidic from a cheap mix. Look forward to going back, curious on how they do a mole sauce. FWIW; 4 Stars from me is pretty damn good. I save 5 star ratings for fantastic & exceptional. Plus... I've had too many experiences of Yelpers 4 & 5 Star ratings in which I thought the food was average at best, or plain ol' bad.

Just had an amazing brunch here! The chilaquiles were legit: the salsa verde was on point, nice and tangy. I made it epic with a side of their chorizo and mixed it, it was hot, yo! Really friendly service, great experience overall.

I don't even like Mexican restaurants! Saw the table next to us get some amazing looking shrimp dish so I ordered one of the 4 shrimp options and guessed wrong. But it was amazing...maybe I guessed right! I'll be back.

Such great service and great food. Hats off to the service staff as they certainly took great care of us after working a full day (we came in during the final hour and 15 minutes of the day). A sign of good Mexican food is the guacamole and Mas Alla did not disappoint, chunky deliciousness. I had a random sampling of food but I loved everything. The tilapia tacos were very flavorful with nice big pieces of tilapia (always a plus to get your money's worth of such an inexpensive type of fish). I also tried the jumbo grilled shrimp and chicken breast and these were flavorful as well. Key takeaway here: Flavorful food and good service, you can't ask for more than that!

Wow, what a great place! And the fact that I'm saying that after eating there on New Year's Eve makes it even more true. I admit that, historically, we have been disappointed with NYE dinners. The restaurants are packed, they're serving an insanely priced prix fixe menu, the staff seems stressed out, and it usually doesn't end up being that great. You know the drill. This is probably why we avoided making plans this year and were searching Yelp for places at 4:30pm on New Year's Eve. I was in the mood for some delicious comfort food that wasn't too far, as the freezing temps were more than I wanted to brave for too long. I suggested Mexican and Mas Alla Del Sol came up as being close by and having amazing looking food...and also a bar. It looked like a great combination of casual and upscale. Perfect! I called them up and was happy to be able to get a reservation. I was also happy that they were able to accommodate us when I called to move it back an hour. The person who answered the phone was really friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and I was happy that it was not completely insane for this holiday. It was busy, but they were even taking walk ins. In fact, after dining, it looked like a lot of the people there were regulars. Many people seemed to be on a first name basis with the staff members. That says a lot. All of the servers were relaxed, friendly, and helpful despite the full restaurant. We started with a blood orange margarita, a Romero cocktail, and the ceviche to share. Round two of drinks consisted of the Margarita con Humo and the Mango Piquin Margarita. I like that the drink menu consists of not just margaritas, but a variety of other cocktails as well. The restaurant was serving their regular menu with a few specials, which was awesome. For the main courses, we went with the tampiquena and camarones con verdolagas. The dishes were all presented beautifully and everything was so delicious. I ate probably way more than I should have but I have no regrets. Now that we have found this place, I think we'll be going out for Mexican more often. We couldn't have been more happy with our choice for dinner, it was the perfect place for us on this night and a great way to end 2014.

My wife and I just recently tried this place because we used to live by the sister restaurant Los Nopales in Lincoln Square. Los Nopales is no longer open, but this is a great alternative. A little bit more upscale in terms of atmosphere and menu, but delicious food and great service. I'm certainly going back to try more dishes.

One of the best Mexican brunch place. I've ordered Enchiladas Verses. It's very good and this made this place one of the best in my opinion. The steak is perfectly cooked. The enchiladas are just about right. The salsa verde is also very good. I also asked them for chips because they don't normally serve chips for brunch. And I found out that their salsa is very different from other salsa I've tried, in a very good way. I asked the waitress and she said it's because they are roasted. I also ordered sopa de tortilla. It's good, but nothing special about it. It's on the pricier side than regular places in Pilsen.

Gonna be a bit nitpicky here but I only do that with places I really want to like. One full star off for the salsa - they mix it with brown beans. I thought maybe they were trying to be different, but then my gf pointed out that beans are cheap and it probably stretches out the salsa. Maybe, but regardless, it doesn't work taste-wise. I'm of latin descent, we know these things, but hey, you be the judge. Of course, the salsa in a Mexican restaurant is arguably the first impression, so it's not something you want to mess with. Secondly, the prices are $2-5 bucks too high. $14 for enchiladas? They were good, but they weren't THAT good. I also ordered a michelada which did the trick but wasn't anything special (Taco Joint is my benchmark). The service however, was impeccable, and that's what brings one star back to the table, otherwise this would be a three star review. Would I go back? Maybe.

What a hidden gem! Authentic Mexican food, fresh margaritas (not the frozen, premixed kind). The steak was quality and perfectly cooked. Ceviche was more of a cocktail style vs. lime/citrus style, but we were pleasantly surprised. Go here is you want great food & service.

I've struggled with how to write this review for a few days. We came in as a group of five on cinco de mayo. My friend had made a reservation, so I figured we'd have no trouble. We get to the restaurant and there is a line out the door of people who have no idea what's going on. My friend tried to get in to the host stand to let them know we had arrived. From outside it looked like they were really busy. After several minutes she called us and said that no one had even acknowledged any of the people waiting at the front. She had to call the restaurant to ask someone to come to the front. Finally someone took our name down on a list and said it would be awhile before we could be seated. This seemed to be the case with several people who had made reservations. There didn't seem to be any system to it. The fact that reservations had been made didn't seem to matter. We eventually were seated but it wasn't in the main dining room. We were taken up a flight of stairs to an area where it looked like they had just thrown together a few tables because they were so busy. It was cold and dark up there. It took a long time to get drinks and to order dinner. It took close to an hour to get our food after ordering. We asked for more drinks when our food arrived, but we didn't receive them until we had finished eating. They were busy and didn't have the staff to handle the number of people dining that evening. I felt like we were forgotten about upstairs. The other two tables sent up with us did not look too happy with the situation either. Our waitress kept apologizing for everything, but by the time she asked if we wanted dessert, we all decided to pass because we didn't want to wait any longer. The food was tasty but it's not worth the prices they charge. I can get food that tastes just as good if not better for cheaper and closer to home.

This place is almost awesome. The service was fantastic, drinks (blood orange margaritas, yum!) were really great. Had to knock off a star for not being able to customize very much -- it's not that we're super picky (the enchiladas were great and the mole sauce is amaaazing), but when you can't make an order of guacamole without onions, that's kind of a bummer. I understand not wanting guests to change everything on the menu- that's super annoying. I also get making something like guacamole in larger quantities so it's quick and easy to serve, but taking an ingredient out is a pretty simple request. They weren't very busy when we were there either, so given the level of service, I was surprised they couldn't accommodate us. The prices are also a little high, but that's to be expected for the quality of everything else -- the rest of our meal was really great.

The best thing about this delightful restaurant is the service. Our waitress and bus boy were attentive, friendly, and helpful throughout the entire meal. While the salsa wasn't my favorite, we enjoyed the guacamole. We'd ordered the guava margaritas, but were accidentally served the house margaritas instead. The waitress apologized profusely and offered to replace them, but we were already enjoying what we had. Gives a reason to return to try the guava that sounded delicious. My friend ordered the Camarones Al Chipotle along with fried ice cream for dessert and enjoyed both very much. I had the enchiladas verdes, and my only complaint is that I could not order two cheese and one steak - they all had to be the same. I am not at all clear on why, but based on the recommendation of the waitress, I got the steak. The food was delivered hot and all was delicious. The bus boy was very kind and wrapped up what I could not finish of my entree. He even packed up our leftover chips & guacamole and threw in some salsa. Again, very friendly and capable staff. I will definitely be back!

Simply the best Mexican restaurant in the far north side of Chicago. If you want something different like the awesome ribs or stay with the traditional chicken enchiladas, this is the place for you. We come here often and the food and attention is always great. I just hope, one day, they include their seafood enchiladas especial as part of the standard menu because they are delicious.

Ok I been coming here since day one. My wife and I have been here over a dozen times and the food & drinks are always spot on! The guacamole of the day is always outstanding and the margarita selection is always tasty! The food is so damn good I sometimes forget that the specials are just as good. Last special I had was the beef tong in a wonderful sauce. I can not get enough of the seafood cocktail prepared fresh to order. The owner is the Chef and his daughter is the manager and it's a real family run place. The walls are littered with pictures of trips to Mexico from the owners daughter who is an amateur photographer. The head bartender Moses is skilled various margaritas and his selections of Tequila is outstanding. By far the best Mexican place on the north side. The service is friendly and welcoming. Very rarely are you disappointed with the food and service.

This place blows me away every time. Thing one--the drinks. The Romano is delicious--weird (with a big jalapeno slice bobbing around in there!), but so so delicious, with a salt, lemon, and chile rim. We also sometimes get a blood orange margarita which is also very good. Thing two--the food. This is the best Mexican food I've had in Chicago--innovative, flavorful, attractive. Get something with the verdolagas! They are outstanding! My decision-making matrix here is pretty much based on how I can get more of the verdolagas. Also notable are the mole enchiladas and all of the shrimp dishes. Thing three--the service. The waitstaff is lovely, and are down to chat with you about the menu, discuss the finer details of the drinks, if you want more info. In short, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Yummmm.

I live in the Edgewater neighborhood and a good sit down gourmet-ish Mexican restaurant is hard to find. This place is within walking distance from the Thorndale red line stop and located just a few steps away on Broadway. So, the location is good! The staff here is attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the food. Sebastian has waited on us several times and is always fun and wonderful. My fiance and I have been to this place numerous times and every time we have had delicious food and great service. If you like tequilas, there are several different types to try as well. Anytime we have family or friends visiting, we take them here. They love it...we love it! My fiance only orders one thing on the menu for every visit....the carne mas alla del sol. He dreams of it, it is so good. It sold him on the first visit. He has everyone try it also. I am a vegetarian, and there are multiple choices for me as well. They have this delicious fried cheese that you have to try and the veggies and beans are flavorful. The salsa here is like none I have ever had. It is spicy smooth salsa, but has a hearty creaminess flavor to it as well. It is different than traditional salsas at other restaurants that are more chunky. This place is a hidden gem in the Edgewater neighborhood. It has a cozy hominess feel once you get inside. I am a local loyal customer and will keep going back. I don't usually write reviews, but we love this place so much that we want this place to stick around forever!

Stopped by for a late lunch last weekend with my fiance. It was a Saturday afternoon, so it wasn't super busy. The dishes are fantastic - the mole is spot-on, and you get good bang for your buck. This is not simply a burrito and taco place - you get actual entrees, and they are delicious. Be prepared for most dishes to be from $10 and up, but it's well worth it. The only ding I would give it is that there were only two other tables besides us, yet service was a bit slow for the drinks. Other than that, not bad at all.

Best Mexican restaurant in Chicago. This is our regular place for brunch. The food is excellent with service to match. Not only do we love the special guacamole and specialty margaritas, but Darcy makes us feel like we are visiting an old friend's house for a home cooked meal. Just terrific. Added plus: if you want to hear an interesting debate on the quality of musicians mention Vicente Fernández. :)

This is probably one of my not-so-great experiences at a restaurant. After our meet & greet with the waiter, my friend & I ordered margaritas to start with. I had the frozen mango margarita and he had the pomegranate margarita. We didn't know what to start with so the waiter left to give us a few minutes and said "if you don't want appetizers, save room for desserts!" Our drinks arrived about 5 minutes later and were pretty disappointing. Our frozen margaritas were more like watered down margaritas with crushed ice. They were strong but lacking flavor. Our waiter didn't show up til probably 10 minutes or more after leaving our table. I can understand if the restaurant was swamped but it really wasn't. After he finally showed up we decided not to do appetizers anymore and he insisted we will probably have dessert then. I decided to order the carne asada for dinner & my friend order the Tampiquena (medium rare). He wanted the scallops but was in the mood for steak.. so as a good friend.. I ordered the scallops. The food came out in a timely manner which was great because I was starving. As I eyed my scallops and stabbed my fork into them, it like as if I had just stuck my fork through jello. I like cutting into my protein and feeling like I just sliced through thick butter but in this case... I didn't. I sliced into another scallop and...again. Same result. Yes, they were very much undercooked/raw. My friend's steak was seasoned well but cooked more medium to well then he asked for. I waved to the waiter to let him know about the scallops and he apologized and left. When he came back. The scallops shrunk down twice their size and were the same scallops that were served originally (they served the same scallops I cut into). I was very disappointed. Getting served the same scallops (double seared). Bad drinks. Not even some kind of free dessert or apology from the chef for the scallops. Now here is the funny thing. The waiter asked us after removing our plates if we wanted dessert and my dinner companion asked to see the dessert menu. Guess what the waiter brought back. The check. I will never eat here again. You can go to better places, pay less, and get better service.

Unfortunately things haven't gotten any better. Pitcher of sangria came with no glasses, asked for glasses three times. Got them myself whilst only available waitress (or so it seemed at least) was playing with someone's baby. Another customer at the bar was quite irate about his order, I said nothing, I wasn't going to add fuel to the fire. So after two requests to place an order, both times being told "I'll be right back", by that very waitress, and being in the building an estimated 72 minutes, we left. The food is good, and I really hate giving places a bad review. I like to support local business, and I like having a Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood with very good food, but the service is atrocious.

If you loved Los Nopales on Western (now closed), you will love this place! It's owned by the same family and the food is outstanding. We ordered guacamole, queso panela, pollo mole, and one of the skirt steak entrees. I have enough leftovers for 2 days! And the service is outstanding--it's so refreshing. The drinks (paloma and mojito) were outstanding too! Go here!

Love this place! Great food, tequila selection, & tasty margaritas. Not to mention a beautiful interior. Does not look like much from the outside, but when you walk in, it's lovely! Within walking distance from my house, so we come here a lot! You will not be disappointed by anything here-- everything I've ordered here has been great.

We finally got back to Mas Alla Del Sol. This time I had the chicken with mole sauce. It was very flavorful and had a nice kick to it. Christopher had a combo of carne asada and enchiladas. They too were quite good, though the portion was a tad small. Great spot for really good Mexican food.

I live in the neighborhood and have always passed this place wanting to try it. I love Mexican food more than the next guy and last night we finally did and it was amazing. I can't wait to go back! We started with the guacamole and the tortilla soup and both were fantastic. The menu from top to bottom looked great and our waitress was very knowledgeable about every item. After much thought, I ended up getting the carne asada and chile relleno and my girlfriend went with the steak fajitas. Both dishes were great. The sides of refried beans and rice were also excellent. I also couldn't pass on the corn mashed potatoes and they were as delicious as everything else. The restaurant itself is very clean and has a nice decor. It's bigger than you would expect from the outside and the hospitality is off the charts. I would highly recommend getting out of the groove of downtown restaurants and making your way to Mas Alla Del Sol.

Went here last weekend with our neighbors and we were all so happy to have a great place, with a nice bar, so close. The food was outstanding and great service. We ordered steak, lamb and fish and everyone was so pleased. All authentic and so tasty. The decor is perfect and it's much bigger than it looks. We can't wait to enjoy the sidewalk dining this summer. This is hands down my new fav place in Edgewater.

My two friends and I came here after a work out on the beach. It looked like a really nice restaurant full of families, so we were hesitant to even walk in wearing gym shoes. However, they were really nice and seated us right away. We started off with chips and salsa -- that salsa was spicy hot and I loved it!! We ordered guacamole, which tastes really fresh. Since we just worked out, we kept our meals pretty small and just ordered apps. I highly highly recommend getting the tilapia tacos - oh my god, heavenly! They tasted smokey and delicious. The chicken tortilla soup was also a winner- the chicken was so tender! This place has an authentic Mexican touch a lot of its dishes, which is hard to come by these days! Really enjoyed it!

I love Los Nopales so I knew this place had to be good! It was pretty empty on a Tuesday night, so getting a table was easy. I liked the selection of margaritas and cocktails, but I needed a marg! I tried that chile basil mango one which was good, but I thought it would have more of a kick. The size was disappointedly small for the price, too. Mole is my go-to item at Mexican restaurants, but the scallops sounded too good to pass up! There were only four, but with the rice, salad and tortillas, the meal was filling. I loved the chipotle sauce! I was able to try my friend's mole though and it was tasty. There weren't any leftovers, but the portions were just right. And that guava cheese cake! So good. The decor is great and service was good, but there were a few small setbacks: wrong drink order the second time around and the bus boy took the chips and salsa when clearing the dinner plates. I would like to have munched on them some more while having my second drink. Overall I wouldn't mind going back, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

This place is delicious! I never feel like there are many options in this area but decided to try this out after my girlfriend found them on Yelp. I was a bit hesitant after living in Pilsen for 4 years but I'm so happy I came. The place is super nice, the staff was so welcoming, and the food was everything I wished it would be. Great authentic Mexican food and their margaritas were so good.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Chicago! I've tried almost all of their dishes and I've never been disappointed with a single one; the service is great as well! Fantastic! We have been to many many Mexican restaurants in Chicago and the surrounding area, and this is one of the best. Top marks for both the essentials: 1) the food and 2) the service. Menu goes well beyond the typical Mexican stand-by dishes - we tried queso de panela appetizer and had to order a second one for our table of four. I had verdolagas salad for my main which was outstanding! Never seen either one on a menu before. Others at our table had enchiladas, tortilla soup, guacamole, and one of the beef dishes and everyone was impressed with the quality of food and preparation. Darcy, our server, was prompt, efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. Ambience was comfortable and welcoming. The family has another restaurant, Nopales in Lincoln Square, which we will also try. Thanks for a great evening!

We've eaten at Mas Alla Del Sol a few times and each time the food has been delicious. My husband is from Mexico and we took his mom who is the authority on Mexican cuisine, she loved the food! Slightly pricey but definitely worth it. We've had the same lady serving us each time we've been.. (we must ask her name) each time she is so friendly and accommodating. Even after the brunch menu had finished she asked the chef to whip up some pancakes for my son today! I tried the salmon with a habanero salsa today and it was cooked perfectly, hubby had steak and chile rellenos which were also delish. Enchiladas are fab, also the chilaquiles with salsa verde are super yummy ... we are slowly working our way through the menu!! The head chef came out to greet us today which was lovely! He was genuinely proud of his food with good reason. Good drinks menu and selection of tequilas. An easy 5 stars!

After just one visit I have a new Mexican favorite. I was there last week for dinner on a Tuesday and not only is the food wonderfully delicious, we were treated like royalty. The guy who I assume is either owner or manager was very nice, even when we couldn't make up our minds where to sit. I had their carne asada dish served with sauce and added a couple shrimp that was really good. A couple of margaritas (that could have been a bit boozier), guac and killer ceviche all rounded out the night. I will be back often and hope to try lots of dishes on their menu! I am excited to head there for brunch some day soon.

Would NEVER come here again. I just waited THREE hours for my food. It wasn't warm or even tasty. Other people I was sitting with got there food and ate by the time I got my cold food. I think the worst part about my experience is when asked how much longer my food would take I got a surprised expression like 2 hours is the norm to wait for chilaquiles...

Excellent service and the food was terrific. Loved the guacamole; get it fully loaded and you'll have a fiesta in your mouth with every bite. I ordered the Camarones al Chipotle which had very good depth of flavor. Margaritas were very good as well, although I think the drinks at That Little Mexican Cafe on Bryn Mar as just a bit better (although TLMC has some off nights on food/service). The chef came out to greet us after our meal which is always a nice touch. He was very friendly and appreciative of our business. I've seen some reviews here about slow/bad service, but that was not my experience at all. I guess some nights are just not as good as others. I will definitely return as this has become one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Edgewater.

Look no more! This is the best Mexican restaurant that I've been to by far even in Mn. I loveeeee Mexican food. Service was beyond exceptional and the alcoholic beverage was on point! Highly recommend. Must go here!!
I love this place! The red snapper with garlic is honestly amazing!! Also the service is great, they know how to make good drinks and answer questions. Also the host is the cutest kid, obviously a family member, but so adorable! Make sure to get the drink in the clay mug!!

wow, and wow. This place was amazing. Was just using Yelp to find a restaurant to eat at near our subway line. And this place popped up with 4.5 stars. And it was wonderful. I had a wonderful regular margarita and then a blood orange margarita. Then on top of that, the meals that we got -- scallops for my friend and tilapia for me. It was amazing.

I went to this restaurant last night and was absolutely pleased. I love their sister restaurant, Los Nopales, on Western so I thought I'd try this one too. The waiters were very nice and offered me the daily margarita, which was delicious! Then we ordered the cactus salad (I've never had cactus before but now I'm sold), guacamole, the scallops and for dessert the Mexican hot chocolate. From start to finish, the food was fresh and delicious. They also don't do silly things like fill your plate with rice, rice and more rice, which is cheap and deludes consumers into thinking a restaurant is so generous with huge portions. The portions were a good size, the fish and veggies were plentiful, I was totally full but not insulted with cheap carbs. The place is very clean and clearly brand new. It's also quite large and good for big groups. Now, my two favorite Mexican restaurants are now this one and Los Nopales. The prices were also quite reasonable. I highly recommend them both.

Such a hidden gem in Edgewater!!!! The food was great, rich in traditional Mexican flavor! If you've been to their first sister restaurant Los Nopales you will enjoy this place. The chef was really nice came around the tables to talk to some of the patrons. The only thing I would say is that it's a little "pricier" compared to their sister restaurant Los Nopales; however, I will definitely go there again to try some of their different speciality dishes.

This place is awesome! Great atmosphere and really good food. Big patio so we were able to bring our pup. The only downside was that the service was pretty slow (though very friendly). Would love to come back.

So great! Margaritas were delicious, we tried a traditional as well one of their specials. The pomegranate guacamole was sensational, as was my dinner which was baby back ribs with mashed potatoes and jicama. Our server was so friendly, checked in often...will return soon!!

My husband and I came here for lunch for the first time a few days ago and was surprised to see how spacious the space is. The waitress was very attentive and made sure our waters were filled consistently. This is great considering many places will ignore your water. Anyhow, we ordered the steak fajita and the combo carne asada and chile relleno. The seasoning on the steak is amazing! The steak was also cooked perfectly and wasn't chewy at all. Even the rice was good and most places has an ok quality to the rice. I also particularly like the spicy salsa they bring in the beginning. It's a bit pricey for lunch but I can imagine it's amazing for dinner. The place is very clean and beautifully decorated. My husband and I will now add this place to our list of restaurants we regular visit.

Not only was the food excellent, but our oldest son is allergic to peanuts and the hostess knew exactly what was safe and what was not safe (avoid the mole). We will definitely be back.

Amazing Mexican dinning! Great margaritas! Staff was attentive. I'd love to come here more often but it's a little to expensive for that if your drinking with your meal. Great addition to edgewater and broadway.

Love it LOVE IT so much. We've been here several times since they opened and the food is always so good. My Irish in-laws loved it (possibly because you can't get Mexican food in Ireland but still) and my mom and sister loved it, too. The steak they use is very nice quality, the drinks are fantastic and the service is always friendly and efficient. Definitely becoming a favorite place!

WOW Great food and service price is good for what you get. My new favorite Mexican restraint

Over priced. They don't let you get different types of enchiladas in your order - a policy that makes no sense. If you want guacamole you have to buy a $3.00 side, which is obnoxiously large for one person. Will not return.

I loved the food--we went for dinner and got pollo en mole and skirt steak, plus a regular and a special margarita. We also got sopes with nopales as a starter, which I loved! The chips were nothing special, but the food portions were so plentiful that I was grateful I hadn't been tempted to fill up on the chips. The ambience is charming--rustic ranch feeling, a la Zorro. Our waitress was nice and competent but did not seem particularly practiced--a bit nervous, left us alone for a while when we said we needed another minute with the menu, etc. It seems like this place could be a real destination in Andersonville & Edgewater with slightly more polished service.
Don't be fooled by the typical restaurant look. This place is great. The food is outstanding. Not a single person in our party of six was disappointed. Notables included the muusels, the scallops, and the pork veradugas. Service was on par with the food. Great reccomendations, timely service and very friendly. When our party got a little too rowdy, the manager quietly and professionally asked us to quiet down. No shame, no threats, just a friendly request. We will be back!

First time here tonight. Food was delicious. Drinks were tasty, made by former cafe 28 bartender. Service was excellent. Only downside, being picky here, busboy was a little too eager to clear the table. We will be back, and will be trying out the brunch!

My husband and I have dinned here several times. He is 100% Mexican and said the food reminds him of his mother's cooking. Shhhh, it's better than my mother-in-law's cooking. The food is typical Mexican fair, but is more refined. They use complimenting spices, tequilas, and the placement of the food adds to the refinement of their offerings. The prices are also decent. Portions are fair. Unlimited chips & home made salsa. Just love it.
Friendly people, nice, very clean store. Excellent salad using verdolagas (purslane), radish and goat cheese. I like the skirt steak alla del sol. Often the quality of meat in Mexican restaurants is pretty low grade and overcooked. Not here, somebody is making a strong effort and it shows.

9.5/10. Cant wait to go back and eat my way through the menu. Crispiest red snapper fresh garlic. Moist and super tender lamb. And the tomato sauce with the Calabacitas is heaven. I want that bottled as spaghetti sauce.

A pleasant surprise just around the corner from my apartment. Well-appointed room with lots of seats and a convenient central bar (one TV, no sound). Delicious lamb shank and perfectly cooked skirt steak were highlights. Margaritas were a little heavy on the orange liqueur but still tasty -- I especially liked the con humo (splash of mezcal with chile-salted rim). Coconut flan was a great finish. Looking forward to exploring the menu in more detail. It's very entree-heavy, however; it would be great if more small plates were added.

I researched this place before I got it and based on the reviews I was hoping to be blown away. I got the chicken enchilada meal. It was not great. I've had better for cheaper. Save your money.

I loved the vibe of this place and the Contemporary Mexican menu is a nice change from the standard fare, but the prices are pretty high, especially for the neighborhood. (Edgewater is not River North) I really wanted to try the mango / jicama guacamole but when I saw that it was $9 (seriously??) I decided to pass. I ordered the steak enchilada special (Yummy but way overpriced at $17) and my partner ordered a margarita (nothing special and very small for $8) and the carne asada fajitas (tasty but slightly overpriced at $15) Service was friendly and attentive and the food was delicious, but because of the small portions and high prices, I would be hesitant to go back unless it was a special occasion.

My wife and I dined here last night during the "soft open". I'm so thrilled this place has landed in our neighborhood. The food was excellent, the location is convenient, and the atmosphere is very nice. I had the skirt steak with cheese enchilada (don't recall the name) and she had the salmon, both of which were outstanding. The ceviche appetizer was also quite good. The service was still finding its footing, but that's to be expected opening weekend. Overall we're very happy and will be back soon!

I can't believe we just found out about this place. We live the neighborhood and have not really had a good Mexican restaurant in the edgewater/Andersonville area. This place is not just good its fantastic. We get something different every time we come here but you have got to try their shrimp, their steak and if your here in the morning their chiliquiles verde. Oh and the queso fondido (cheese and mushrooms) is delicious. Go here.

Great New Mexican Restaurant from the owners of Los Nopales! Inside, it's HUGE for a storefront.. Seats over 120, they said? Total gut rehab with an awesome wood bar, great interior paint, nice floors and cool pictures. The key part here is the BAR/ Great Mexican Cocktail List as well as like 7 Mexican Beers! Also they have about 20 tequilas on hand..On to the food: Apps/ List of like 7 with Queso Fundido with Chorizo being a standout. Entrees: about 20 items to choose from/ We had Costillas (Ribs) and a Carne Asada dish, both were amazing with the ribs being the best of the night. They serve em with grilled pineapple slices on the side and it really makes the dish. Prices are a bit above average but they don't skimp on quality or portion size. Very friendly staff and The Bartender Artie is very good, have him make you a great drink and enjoy success.. GTFJD

This is a newer Mexican place just north of Andersonville on Broadway. Since it's my husband's favorite cuisine, of course we had to give it a whirl. I was pleasantly surprised with the sleek decor and full bar. Husband loved all the drinks, which he said was perfectly done. The shrimp special with poblano rice that he ordered was also delicious. However, my tilapia dish tasted too fishy and the 'special' guacamole, which included pom seeds, was tasty, but nothing to warrant and extra $2... The mangos and pom seeds were only on the top of the guac and not evenly distributed throughout. I felt scammed. Nonetheless, the service was excellent and I'm sure we will be back to try some of their other menu items.

Overpriced is the key word here. I had the grilled veggies. There were 2 asparagus, 2 thin pieces of red pepper, 2 thin slices of zucchini, and 2 very thin slices of cactus. The grilled veggies were on top of a about a half cup of plain white rice with a smokey chipotle sauce. The veggies were actually really good and the chipotle sauce was delicious. But almost $13.00 for a couple bites of vegetables? I wouldn't even mind paying the 13 bucks, but put something substantial on the plate. The amount given was more like an appetizer. You shouldn't leave a restaurant still hungry. Seriously, if your going to charge that much, puff up that plate a little.

Chips and salsa were very authentic. Great nachos and the stuffed peppers and stake tacos were the greatest in the Edgewater area.

We were excited to try this new place just a block from home. We were pleased to see that it was packed on a Friday night, and the decor and atmosphere was excellent (a rarity for our neighborhood!) The food and service left us disappointed though. I received the wrong dish (chicken instead of veggie fajitas) and my husband's dish was nothing like the description. It was supposed to be steak, an enchilada, and guacamole, and instead he got steak, rice and beans. The steak was yummy and they did fix my dish, but the service was pretty slow in general. Our server was nice but seemed overwhelmed. We did like the mezcal margarita and the queso fundido appetizer, but I thought that everything was overpriced. We are disappointed because we were really excited about the idea of having a nicer Mexican place in our 'hood. I know they just recently opened, so maybe we just caught them on an off night and should go back in a few months when they are more established.

We live in Andersonville--so glad to have a Mexican place of this caliber in the neighborhood! The space is lovely, and the staff was attentive and friendly, especially with our toddler. We started with queso fundido with chorizo (yum). My shrimp with verdolagas was delicious, very tender and nicely seasoned. The tortillas that came with it were hot and fresh. My only complaint was that my margarita seemed to be on the small side. We'll definitely be back--lots on the menu looked interesting!

Service was great, had a chance to enjoy the nice weather and sat outside on the patio. Started the night out with the gac n chips and mussels with tomato garlic cilantro base (great sauce for the chips too!) Saw the Picaditas was a hit too....For entree I had the fried whole snapper with a side of rice crispy outside and steamed meat inside. I nibbled off my gf's Carne Asada plate which was good as well. For dessert which was inhaled was "Nieve Frita"..... The inside seating area was nice everyone scrambled to be seated outside (patio seats 20 people).. Recommend this place.

Excellent upscale Mexican dishes. I had a grilled pork and mashed potato dish and my friend had the mole enchiladas. Both were excellent. We ordered the seasonal guacamole this last visit that had mango and pomegranate seeds in it. Everything was excellent. The food came out fast without feeling rushed. My only complaint was that our drinks took forever due to only having one bartender working and they kept delivering food to the wrong tables. Small glitches I hope they work out soon.

Amazing food! A bit more expensive than most Mexican places but it's well-worth it. I also highly recommend trying their brunch, it's to die for. Incredible food, awesome and creative drinks, and friendly staff: so glad this place is close to us!

I've been here a bunch of times, and was always really amazed at the food. It's really good food. But we had such a strange customer service experience there last night that it pains me, but I don't think I can eat there again. It's like having to fire an employee that contributed a great deal to your business over the years and has been very loyal. You don't want to do it, but the incident was inexcusable and you're just going to have to fire them. The meal was going fine until one of the waiters comes by showering my wife, another woman at our table, and the table with salsa. It was an accident, but everyone's coats got salsa on them. We asked the waiter to have the manager come over so we could see about getting help with dry-cleaning, or something. It really wasn't a big deal. No manager. We ask again. He says the manager will be right over. No manager. We ask yet again. We're told the manager will come over. We keep eating. Simple thing, no big deal. Still no manager, so we press the waiter harder. He says one moment. He eventually shows up with who we think is the bar tender. Thinking he is the manager we explain what happened. He says one moment. The waiter then wipes up the salsa on the table. My wife and her friend take turns wiping their coats off in the bathroom. At this point the hostess comes over, and says she's been here the whole time, and wishes we told her about this earlier (wtf?). We say we've been asking for the manager since it happened. She then says she has no idea what we're talking about. She then tries to deny it even happened because she doesn't see any salsa. This wasn't even really a big deal. We had no expectation of getting the whole meal comped or anything. But it reached levels of bizarreness. She proceeds to tell us she can't do anything. She could give us appetizers but it is too late now. (WTF?). So she can give us dessert. We don't really even want dessert so we decline. Ask what about help with dry cleaning bills? She disappears. We give up. Then she shows up 15 minutes later with a couple of desserts we didn't really want. Meanwhile we asked the waiter to give us a check for each couple. He says he'll fix the check. He goes back to the computer and messes with it for about 15 minutes and then brings us back the same check unchanged and acts like it is new. Ultimately what I think was going on is that nobody was in charge, and the people working that night didn't have the authority to do anything, and were afraid to do anything. Someone could have apologized, or something. That's all it would have taken. It was hardly the first time someone got some food spilled on them at a restaurant. But just handle it.

By far our favorite Mexican food from the delicious salmon and scallops to the chicken mole and carne asada. Yes....we have been here so many times and keep meaning to write a review. The margaritas are made from fresh squeezed juices. The food is as fresh as it comes. The portions are not so big that dessert is out of the question. They make an incredible tequila cake. The service is excellent. This place is more upscale and the environment classy. What more can I say?

This place is fantastic. We live in the neighborhood, and it has immediately become our go to Mexican restaurant. It's a step up from from a typical taco place with a lot of different entrees ranging from seafood to amazing chicken mole. You will pay a bit more, but the food is just superb. Every time we try something new we are blown away. The steak dishes are amazing. The caldo de pollo really hits the spot, and the margaritas are all good (though we favor the pisco ones). You get the feeling that a lot of the items are family recipes, and that you are eating dishes that would otherwise be served in someone's home. I could go on, but really I just recommend trying the place. If you aren't sure what to get, just ask the super friendly waitress who is one of the members of the family who owns the restaurant. Don't come here for tacos (even though I'm sure the ones they have are good), but do come here for a flavorful dinner with a warm family feeling.

The positive reviews are invariably a bit more mundane; rather than burning with the need to trash a place as viciously and immediately as possible, I find myself praising a restaurant out of obligation, rather than passion. Whatever my motivation, Mas Alla Del Sol deserves the five-star review. Ate here only the once, over the weekend, with my girlfriend. We arrived soon after they opened and were the only patrons for a time. Perhaps that's why we were provided with absolutely excellent service: attentive, friendly, conversational. I am not sure we'd have ordered our second rounds of drinks if the waiter hadn't been such a friendly person. On to the drinks: my girlfriend started with the Piña Ahumada, a mezcal-based drink that I would recommend only for experienced palates. I tried the Pulque Whiskey Sour, which was preferred by the lady for her second. I moved on to the Pisco Sour myself, which was a little too sweet. But the waiter gave me a pulque back on request, so who am I to complain? The entrees were awesome and big enough to feed us at home for a meal afterward. We had the Huevos Ahogados and Huevas Mexicanos. The bill was a bit high, but that's our fault for boozing it up at noon on a Saturday. We'll definitely be hitting this place up again.

I have high standards for Mexican food and this place delivers. Nearly all of the menu items come from the owner's family, passed through the generations. Favorites include the perfectly prepared zucchini starter (calabacitas) -- astonishingly light and delicious, plus the chicken mole, lamb shank, and ribs. To be clear, this place isn't at the level of any of Rick Bayless's restaurants, nor his proteges', but it is a clear cut above most Mexican restaurants. Excellent margaritas. Highly recommend dining at the bar where you can enjoy a great conversation with the bartenders who are as passionate and knowledgable about the food as they are about the drinks.

We visited here on Sunday for the first time since moving to the neighborhood. I had the brunch skirt steak and enchiladas. The steak was cooked the way I wanted and the mix of seasonings was great. My girlfriend had the grilled chicken torta and loved it. The service was great! Can't believe it took us til now to come but we will be back!!

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Chicago. We've been at least 5 times now, and the food is consistent, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Quite honestly, I've never had anything that hasn't been excellent, but their skirt steak/carne asada dishes are just so satisfying that I recommend starting there. Their special mango and jicama guacamole is also outstanding! The cocktails are also top notch (if they have the blood orange margaritas, do not even consider ordering anything else!). The quality of the food and drink would be enough, but what makes this restaurant so special is the warmth. It's a lovely environment: quiet, beautifully appointed, spacious and clean. And the staff are very accommodating and helpful. The only downside to Mas Alla Del Sol is that it is pricey compared to the average Mexican restaurants in the city. But after repeated visits, I've realized that Mas Alla Del Sol is simply not your average Mexican restaurant. It's better. And that's worth paying for, don't you think?
My wife and I went there last night with a friend. Our waiter was wonderful in recommending dishes, and we also got service from a waitress. We got the panela cheese appetizer and the shrimp, the lamb, and grilled tilapia entrees. All were delicious, as was my blood-orange margarita. We will definitely be back!

My friend and I tried Mas Alla Del Sol last night, eager to check out the new Mexican place in the neighborhood. The service was excellent, and the decor was as gorgeous as the guy tending bar. We both had the chicken fajitas (which comes with rice and beans). The food was good, but could use a little more flavor. I'm sure they'll improve this as the months go by. The guacamole was superb!

Went here last minute based on Yelp reviews and proximity to where we were staying while visiting from St. Louis. Service was excellent and very attentive. Had specialty margarita and sangria along with guac, fish tacos and calabacitas. All were fresh and delicious. Would recommend if you are looking for good Mexican in the area.

This is a great family owned Mexican restaurant (sister to "Los Nopales" in Lincoln Square). The food is great, fresh, and tasty; also they have a full bar. I had guacamole and tacitos as an appetizer (really good guacamole!), and then fajitas. The dishes are "classics" in Mexican cuisine, but they're done well, the flavors are bright and fresh. See what the specials are.... they offered us a cold mango and lime soup with onions, so I thought I'd just give it a try...... it was fantastic! Never had that before, but a really great refreshing summer soup. The outdoor space is ok, on the sidewalk on Broadway, but the interior is very clean, with nice decor. A good local Mexican spot, with friendly attentive staff (the owners family as far as I could tell).
(4)
Jexenia G.
If you thought Los Nopales is awesome, this addition from the same owners is amazing. Even the guacamole was better! PLUS now has a full bar, and a second floor for small parties. Can't wait for the summer outdoor patio seating! When it comes to classy and delicious authentic Mexican food, this is the place to be!

I'm in the 'hood and have been here twice. Pros - The space is nice and for the most part the staff is attentive and tries to please. Neither time was there a wait for a table, and the food came from the kitchen within a good or at least reasonable time after ordering. The ribs, which I had the first time I visited, were very good and reasonably priced for ribs. The hostess was exceptionally attentive and that's the type of attention that gets customers coming back. Cons - The drinks are VERY small for the price. I've never been in a Mexican style restaurant with drinks this small. The margarita glasses are like martini glasses. Nothing wrong or special about the drinks except that at a fairly high price point for the neighborhood, each time I felt surprised and even a little gypped. I've ordered two types of drinks and both had exceedingly small pours. And both times it took quite a long time for the drinks to arrive. Missed opportunities for more drinks on their part. The mole in my second time dish was so uninspired. My understanding is that the Nopales brand was supposed to be a step up from the ho-hum U.S.-palate oriented melted cheese, tacos and refried beans cuisine of many other Mexican restaurants. Authentic mole recipes sometime run into the dozens of ingredients and are handed down by generations in Mexican families. This one: Meh. I was surprised at how mediocre it was. Service was also not great the second visit. I ordered corn tortillas and, after a long wait including after my dish arrived, flour tortillas arrived. I ordered a second drink and it never came. I ordered it again and was told the first order had never been placed. It finally arrived after most of my meal was eaten. Curious, since the overpriced (or undersized) drinks are clearly a big part of their profits. They could have lost two drink orders that evening. I'm going to try their seafood and steak options next, it being right in the neighborhood and all, and give them more chances to improve my rating. I would like for them to succeed.

Wow!!! Went last night. The service and food superb! The mussels appetizer perfect as well as guac. We ordered 3 dinners to try. Lamb shank, Carne Asada with the fried cheese and the shrimp in cream sauce. Positively delicious!!! 2 desserts as well, choco lava cake and coffee cake special. Again perfection. Wait staff extremely nice and knew all about the food. Oh and don't let me forget the coffee! They use cinnamon in their coffee which I love so again jackpot! Drink selection equally excellent. I truly hope they do well and are there for a very long time. Can't wait to go back and try more!! Tell your friends about this place because I sure will!

The food is good, unfortunately the drinks are way too expensive. $8 for a *small* house margarita is a little over the top for Edgewater.

A new restaurant in the neighborhood. Everything I've heard from friends is that the food is wonderful. I finally got to find out for myself and I'm happy to report that it's all true. I can't wait to go back and try some other dishes. At the start, the evening showed promise when I overheard a lady at the table behind us commenting that these were "the best restaurant margaritas" she has had. It turns out that she appreciates the art form of the perfect margarita and so we had what they were having, involving pomegranates. Lovely. On our second pass my wife asked for a surprise and we were served a pear concoction that was clearly a margarita but with a special fresh twist. The salsa had nice heat and smokiness, a pleasant counterpoint to the cool drinks. As usual with a new place, I threw myself into the hands of our server, asking him his favorite dish. He recommended two entrees featuring skirt steak. I'm more of a pollo guy, but I took him at his word and I wasn't disappointed at all. The steak was perfectly prepared and came with sides including beans (good), enchilada (very good) and rice (ridiculously good). I asked about the rice and he only said it was prepared in chicken stock and heated in the oven. Well I've made rice with stock many times and all I can say is that this must be the most kick-a__ stock in the world. Everything on the plate was beautifully prepared and perfectly seasoned. Portions are generous so we couldn't handle desert, but I will dream about the coffee tequila desert they tried to talk us into. All in all, creative Mexican, family run at less than Rick Bayless pricing. In Edgewater, safe street parking, Red Line access, a block from Lickety Split, how can you go wrong?

We ordered take out and loved it. The enchilada suizas and verdes were the same excellent dishes we love on the Los Napoles menu, their sister restaurant.. But now they're closer! Also got the guacamole app and taquerios. The take out menu has tacos and a burrito option. We'll try those next time. Thanks for coming to the 48th!!

Great atmosphere. The food was delicious! Great spot to dine...a little pricey so not an everyday dining spot. For 2 meals, guacamole, and 2 margaritas we spent around $80.00. Can't wait to go back and try something new!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

(5)Jeff S.
This was delicious! I always walk by here but somehow never noticed this place before. Service was great, and both the enchiladas and the mango margarita were awesome.
(4)Sandra G.
Went here for brunch today and can say that it lived up to the 4.5 stars on yelp. Walked in at 12:30 and got seated with no wait. Service was fantastic with staff very attentive. I had café de olla and the Omelette Ranchero off the brunch menu. I truly enjoyed the omelette packed with tons of flavor and a palette pleasing dose of goat cheese. The guajillo potatoes were okay, but then again they are an accompaniment and not the star of the show. Would recommend for brunch.

(5)Mike M.
I don't even like Mexican restaurants! Saw the table next to us get some amazing looking shrimp dish so I ordered one of the 4 shrimp options and guessed wrong. But it was amazing...maybe I guessed right! I'll be back.
(5)Rhonda G.

(4)Lucy A.
This place is awesome! The food tasted very authentic. I had the carne asada & it was cooked & seasoned to perfection. The staff was very friendly & the Chef came out and greeted customers! Definitely returning soon!

(5)Brian K.
Maybe.
(4)John F.
Great food, super service. Best Mexican food in the area!!
(5)Santiago M.

(3)Ali L.
(4)J E.

(5)Hans A.
(5)Jessi Q.

(3)Anna S.
(5)Lukas N.

(1)Becky K.
finally found a decent mexican restaurant not jus in chicago but right down the road! great food, variety of specials, and guava margarita is a must - could've used an xtra shot though. overall, worth the walk over. a bit pricey but hard to find decent mexican.
(4)Anne F.
Go here!
(5)Kirsten H.
(5)Omar F.
My new favorite Mexican restaurant in the city food service everything was excellent!!!
(5)Pam D.
(4)Mike B.
(5)Crazy L.
(4)Karen D.
(4)Sophia G.
This is an exceptional Mexican cuisine restaurant! Presentation and taste of the fresh food served is amazing. Service was also great! Ambiance and bar w/TV is also a plus! Highly recommended this place.
(5)Bri A.
(3)brittany m.
(5)Greg S.
Best skirt steak I've ever had. Great service!
(4)Karpick M.
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Chicago! I've tried almost all of their dishes and I've never been disappointed with a single one; the service is great as well! I recommend trying the ceviche, its one of my favorite things on the menu. If you want flavorful authentic Mexican food then this place is a great place to go.
(5)Katie K.
(5)Chris D.
Randomly picked this place from the list on Yelp and I was glad we went here. Food is amazing. Staff is courteous. Tip: try the Ceviche.
(4)Lisa M.
(5)Charlie B.
(5)Jessica E.
(1)Mike S.
(5)Dara A.
Look no more! This is the best Mexican restaurant that I've been to by far even in Mn. I loveeeee Mexican food. Service was beyond exceptional and the alcoholic beverage was on point! Highly recommend. Must go here!!
(5)Sandy N.
My fiancé and I came to try this place out and it is amazingly delicious!! We had the chipotle shrimp and cheese enchiladas suizas! This place is an upscale Mexican restaurant and the prices might be a bit expensive but it is totally worth it! Service is great and they cook the food very fast! I def recommend this restaurant specially for a date!
(5)Nancy F.
I love this place! The red snapper with garlic is honestly amazing!! Also the service is great, they know how to make good drinks and answer questions. Also the host is the cutest kid, obviously a family member, but so adorable! Make sure to get the drink in the clay mug!!
(5)Diane M.
wow, and wow.
(5)Billie O.
(5)Steve A.
(4)Lucia Z.
This place is awesome! Great atmosphere and really good food. Big patio so we were able to bring our pup. The only downside was that the service was pretty slow (though very friendly). Would love to come back.
(4)Craig S.
So great! Margaritas were delicious, we tried a traditional as well one of their specials. The pomegranate guacamole was sensational, as was my dinner which was baby back ribs with mashed potatoes and jicama. Our server was so friendly, checked in often...will return soon!!

very good steak fajitas, good waitstaff and friendly owner

(5)Amber R.
Not only was the food excellent, but our oldest son is allergic to peanuts and the hostess knew exactly what was safe and what was not safe (avoid the mole). We will definitely be back.
(5)Andrew H.
Amazing Mexican dinning! Great margaritas! Staff was attentive. I'd love to come here more often but it's a little to expensive for that if your drinking with your meal. Great addition to edgewater and broadway.
(4)Colleen B.
(5)Steve S.
WOW Great food and service price is good for what you get. My new favorite Mexican restraint
(5)Ashley A.
Over priced. They don't let you get different types of enchiladas in your order - a policy that makes no sense. If you want guacamole you have to buy a $3.00 side, which is obnoxiously large for one person. Will not return.
(3)Victoria B.

I had heard a lot of good things about this place from online reviews, and I like to support neighborhood places, but, "Beyond the Sun" (the English translation of this restaurant's name) ended up earning, from me, what Yelp suggests as a description for two stars: "Meh. I've experienced better." Although I didn't try a full meal there (I had already nibbled my way up the North Side all night), I did try several test dishes that are my Mexican restaurant 'measuring sticks', and, unfortunately, not one of them wowed. Ceviche should be fresh and swimming in a cocktail of fresh citrus, but M.A.D.S.' was slightly mushy, and a little gelatinous. Molé, IMHO, should taste like unsweetened chocolate with an interesting palette of spices; too hot is a slight mark against in my book, but bland is a much bigger mark against, and although the chocolate flavor was OK, this failed on the bland side. I like my guacamole with a little kick, and Mas' was OK, but, as noted in my review of 'That Little Mexican Cafe II', the table-side creation in that nearby restaurant blows most other guacs away, M.A.D.S.' included. And, although they have a small, but decent selection of tequilas at M.A.D.S.', the selection is far fewer than available than at 'LMC II', so I couldn't measure by my usual Margarita, but, if my warm, so so mojito was any measure, I'm unsure they would have compared favorably there, either. M.A.D.S. has a nice space, and prices are a little on the white tablecloth side of the neighborhood spectrum, but, if I wanted high-end Mexican, I'd go to Topolobampo, if I wanted mid-range in the neighborhood, there are a lot of other choices, and if I wanted no-frills Mexican, without a liquor license, I'd go to Mr. Salsa in Uptown, or several other places nearby. So, to sum up, a little too expensive for what you get, and, as I said above, "Meh. I've experienced better."

(5)Jean D.
First time here tonight. Food was delicious. Drinks were tasty, made by former cafe 28 bartender. Service was excellent. Only downside, being picky here, busboy was a little too eager to clear the table. We will be back, and will be trying out the brunch!
(4)Nicole M.

My husband and I came here for dinner. I was also on the hunt for a margarita. The food was fantastic: I had the vegetarian fajita, and he had the lamb shank. The fajitas were full of awesome sautéed veggies-including zucchini, green and white onions, asparagus, peppers, mushrooms, and tomatoes. The lamb shank was tender and delicious and perfectly seasoned. The mezcal margarita with a salted and seasoned rim was fantastic, and my husband enjoyed his "pisco sour" as well. Somehow my husband managed to leave his credit card in the restaurant. As we were about to drive away, our waiter came running out with the card and a big smile. We were very grateful, especially since it was only 20 degrees out.

(4)Pheebe L.
9.5/10. Cant wait to go back and eat my way through the menu. Crispiest red snapper fresh garlic. Moist and super tender lamb. And the tomato sauce with the Calabacitas is heaven. I want that bottled as spaghetti sauce.
(5)Anne D.
New Mexican Favorite Great margaritas and cocktails. Wonderful Mexican seafood as well as Carne Asada and pork dishes. Great service from family and friends and lovely ambiance.
(5)David G.
Wonderful food! This restaurant has a great atmosphere and service is very helpful. For Mexican in Chicago, this is the place to go.
(5)Kevin D.
(4)Muteya M.
I researched this place before I got it and based on the reviews I was hoping to be blown away. I got the chicken enchilada meal. It was not great. I've had better for cheaper. Save your money.
(2)Mark A.
(3)Andrew L.
(5)Ryan S.
Go here.
(5)Michael H.
GTFJD
(5)Alicia K.
(3)Debra L.
(2)Megan G.
Chips and salsa were very authentic. Great nachos and the stuffed peppers and stake tacos were the greatest in the Edgewater area.
(4)Corinne H.
(2)Joey W.
Great food, great drinks, great service. Hands down the best Mexican food in the Edgewater neighborhood.
(5)Hime O.
This place was great food drinks dessert amazing fish tacos were great lamb shank was excellent gotta come back again!!!!
(5)Amy V.
(4)Oliver Y.
(4)Susan P.
(4)G W.

(5)Lenore B.

(5)Charlene B.
(4)C J.
(5)Gio G.
A true excellent Mexican cuisine. Excellent service with warm family atmosphere.. It is a must .. Consistency, consistency ,consistency in all aspects food and service.
(5)Charles T.
(5)Carolyn L.
AMAZING food, wonderful service, beautiful atmosphere, strong drinks!
(5)Hilary M.
(5)Mike W.
(3)Ben C.
(4)Alan S.
(4)Jexenia G.
(5)David M.
(2)Maggie H.
(5)William V.
The food is good, unfortunately the drinks are way too expensive. $8 for a *small* house margarita is a little over the top for Edgewater.
(3)Ted H.
(4)Andrew D.
(5)Ali J.
I came here for dinner on a saturday night and was very pleasantly surprised. The service was great, a very nice ambiance and very good food. They have quite a selection of dishes, making it easy for people to find something they like. Would definitely come back.
(4)Keith M.
This place is great. Not inexpensive, but great food, amazing options and a super-nice staff. My girlfriend and I went in just to check it out and were impressed both by the food and experience.
(5)Nick P.
Great vibe inside. A friends sent us here and we LOVED it! So nice to have an upscale Mexican place in RP. Staff was really nice and everybody smiled at us. Stiff drinks and great, great food. We want to see this place succeed so check it out you won't be disappointed!
(5)Ann B.
Happy to have this place in the neighborhood! Highly recommend the Carne Mas Alla del Sol. Very friendly staff!
(5)Jeff D.
Gone here 3 times since they've opened, so they're doing something right. Brunch was great. Can't beat chilaquiles and a michelada for breakfast!
(4)Momof F.
My husband and I went here this past Friday and I'm so glad we did!!! The service was great from the moment we walked in to the moment we left! The food was superb and the watermelon margarita was delish!! We both had 2 apps, 2 entrees and 2 drinks and the bill was cheap!!! i am so so so glad that there is a great Mexican restaurant just 4 blocks from us!! I can't wait to go back!
(4)Maggie n.
Great atmosphere. The food was delicious! Great spot to dine...a little pricey so not an everyday dining spot. For 2 meals, guacamole, and 2 margaritas we spent around $80.00. Can't wait to go back and try something new!
