This is my favorite little place to go when I am craving breakfast for lunch. Or even just breakfast for breakfast! The food is tasty (and affordable). The coffee is hot and always promptly refilled by the great servers. It's a relaxed environment and I never feel rushed to leave. They serve breakfast and lunch meals, including burgers, salads and sandwiches. Plus milkshakes! Come enjoy this little place on the corner for a hardy meal with a tiny price!

Cozy little diner in the heart of Edgewater! My fav part of this diner might be the seating. The whole place is sort of quaint and laid back. I generally only come here when I just don't feel like cooking as the food is just standard diner fair.

  • Chase K.

I love it here. It is a diner done exactly how diners should be done - they even have a circular bar for eating at! They have quaint outdoor seating too. Their hours are short but it is so worth it! I recommend the French toast, it is done just as an adorable diner would do it.

A neighborhood breakfast place with decent renditions of standard fare. I was exploring my brother's neighborhood (without my brother, oddly enough) and we ended up sitting down here for breakfast. I ordered a grilled cheese with bananas for my daughter, and a vegetarian skillet over hash browns for myself. My wife had a bacon chicken sandwich with fries, which she said she liked. Nothing here really stands out... which might be your kind of thing! My skillet had great eggs and well-cooked veggies but was very underseasoned on top (which is why, I suppose, the hot sauce bottles were easily within reach.) The hash browns' largest liability was that they weren't crunchy... at all. I thought that was one of the requirements of hash browns? On the bright side, the grilled cheese was nice and toasty. And the bananas were sliced nice! The meal set the three of us back about $30 including tip, which seems pricey, or I just don't know how much food is supposed to cost in the city. I would be interested in seeing if this place is still here in five years.

For the price, this place is 5 stars! It is simple, good, food.........at a bargain price. The staff is nice. The place is a little run down, but again..... for the price, you can't beat it. The food really is prepared very well. I really wish that they were open in the evening.

The food is your standard diner fare, but the service from my first visit rates a four star review. Great little outdoor seating area for cyclists like me who don't want to smell-up the place after a sweaty ride.

I'll tell you what Little Corner is good for: DINING ALONE. Honestly, if you come here on a weekday morning, you'll see about 10 people scattered about and 8 of them are rolling solo. And people are cool with it. Read the paper. Read a book. Do the crossword. Stare into space. Enjoy the solitude. This is 100% a divy diner. The menu is really small. It's dumpy and dingy and some of the seats are uncomfortable. The same gal servers almost every morning and she's really nice. I love, love, love it here. I haven't had anything except breakfast, so my understanding of the lunch/dinner menu is nil, however, I've been really happy with the 2 eggs, bacon, hashbrowns (shredded - super crisp on the outside and SO soft in the middle) and the option to get toast OR pancakes. By god, get the pancakes. They're really simple diner pancakes, but they're awesome. Service is excactly what it should be: They keep your coffee cup full and they don't bug you. The food comes out hot and fast. LOVE Little Corner.

Definitely like exploring the city's diners and all they have to offer. This cute place does in a pinch. The food is cheap. Lots for the money. This past Sunday, I ordered 2 eggs scrambled with country fried steak, hashbrowns and toast. As other yelpers have pointed out, the food is standard fare. It's average comfort food. Attentive staff. Restaurant was clean.

My mushroom burger came SUPER FAST, as if they had it ready for me before I ordered!! I barely got comfortable and she's already bringing it to my table!! It reminded me a lot of the restaurant I would go to as a child with my Mom in my hometown, except there weren't the juke boxes at the table. A nice dive spot, and the prices are very reasonable!!

A neighborhood diner with good standard high cholesterol American breakfast, reasonably fresh hot coffee and acceptable fresh pie. Service is a little slow and disorganized, the inside temperature is too warm, but that's because I'm still about 10 or 20 years too young to fit into their target demographic. When I'm 64, the service speed and temperature in here will be just right.

I frequent this place way too much because it's my favorite cheap neighborhood breakfast dive! I love the staff here. The kitchen is super fast. There is always hilarious outdated decor. The same ugly Easter egg wreath has been up for seasons. Sometimes I stare at the ceiling tile grease and pretend it's 1987. Great diner food for cheap.

  • Kristen L.

Food was typical diner breakfast food. Service was awful. Took them 15 min to get creamer for the coffee, and there was only two other couples there. The whole eating and ordering process took much too long. We sat there with cold, sad coffee and were very unimpressed.

  • Christopher D.

Although there were a number of tables that were vacant but needed to be a bussed, the hostess wouldn't seat me except at the counter. They have really gone downhill since Gus sold the place a few years ago. I'll never be back.

I really liked this place at one point. Food and service was good, coffee was great. This place is more like a neighborhood diner. It's close to where I live, so it was good when I just didn't feel like cooking. Prices are reasonable too. However, this visit left me hungry... because I paid my bill without eating and left. The server was either new or incompetent. It wasn't super busy, so I don't know why it seemed she was in the weeds. It took 10 minutes to take my order after I had to go get my own menu. Took 5 more minutes to get coffee and water. I ordered a simple 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast. Got my coffee... busser hands me a menu. Food came out quickly. In order to get hot sauce, I had to start flailing my arms. Look at me! Im a bird! I then noticed that my toast wasn't buttered. It was ice cold by the time I got to ask for butter, so I asked for it to be toasted again. Food is now cold. Same toast came back slightly warmer and guess what?! No butter! Coffee no where to be found. Welp! I'm done by now! Got up, paid $9.30 for my cup of coffee, strip of bacon, and fork full of hash browns with raw green pepper and onions on top (they used to make these with the hash browns, I guess not anymore). Told my server everything was just awful. She said "okay". There was no point leaving a tip. Guy behind me "apologized" on my behalf. Yeeeeeah... please don't. Sadly, won't be coming back to this former fave place. 2 stars for the great coffee and it is a clean place.

I loved this place. I went in expecting a classic diner feel with classic diner food and got exactly that. Its comforting and delicious. My boyfriend got a skillet and I got a reuben, both were phenomenal, and the waitress was attentive and nice not overbearing or distant. Such a great weekend brunch for us and we will be returning again and again.

  • Ethan M.

I always love simple breakfast places where you can go and just read a paper and relax without being rushed out. Hard to find in Chicago on the weekends with all of the fancy 'brunch' locations that want to shuffle you in and out. This, along with Heartland Cafe, are my two favorite breakfast places in Chicago. I frequent here more though because it's more low-key and quiet. Food was cooked perfect. 1 egg, potatoes (real potatoes, not shredded, not entirely diced; can tell they're freshly cut), with two nice thick pieces of rye toast. Plus a generous size mug of free refill coffee! Good was $4.25 ($4.75 if I wanted 2 eggs instead of my usual 1 egg), and $1.75 for bottomless coffee. Great good, peaceful atmosphere, out the door under $8 with tip, can't beat that.

    (5)
  • Jayson E.

Classic Chicago diner experience, right down to the blue-collar Russian customers. My only complaint is that their potatoes are sliced rather than shredded hashbrowns. Open early, always friendly -- my kind of place.

    (4)
  • Jonathan L.

This diner us straight out of the 1980s. The food, decor, etc. And I mean this in a good way. Nothing sets the breakfast apart from your usual fare, but that's the point. It's affordable, tasty, and the coffee is hot. What more do you need?

    (5)
  • Lawrence H.

Started accepting credit cards around 8/1/2014...... Lovely ladies take care of everything. Cook does perfect eggs, very good bacon, and real homemade potatoes r great. Prices can't be beat for the quality of breakfast.

Don't come here to be dazzled by appearance or try some play on brunch. What you have here is A Diner! The Diner style music, the regular customers, the no name waiter & THE BEST BREAKFAST FOOD ON THE NORTH SIDE OF CHICAGO. Nothing extreme, nothing you've never heard of. Just regular food THE BEST

Call first; they don't open at 6am on Saturday as YELP notes. It's a 7am place.

  • Tara C.

I haven't been frequenting this place for years, but I could easily find myself doing so. Grab a booth if you're with a friend, or just hop on up to the classic lunch counter - either way, you're in for a treat. What's in store is an attentive staff, bottomless cups of actually decent coffee, and rich vanilla-buttermilk pancakes as a guaranteed side to your four-dollar breakfast plate. Now that they accept credit cards, there's no excuse to pass up Little Corner. The only beef I've got is with whoever stole the staple Batman toy by the register.

  • Esther K.

I love that I have Little Corner right around the corner from me. The food isn't stellar- I could probably cook most of the dishes to be tastier myself- but sometimes you just need the convenience and comfort of going out for a quick bite. Decent sized portions of a variety of breakfast and comfort food at decent prices. The service is fast and the interior relatively spacious and clean. Nothing spectacular but just what I expect from a local diner.

    (3)
  • Liz O.

Even if you love a greasy spoon local, the friendly service and staff are the saving grace. Good for bottomless coffee cups and admiring the art, but the food was bad and I was given the wrong thing twice.

Perfect little diner. Reminds me of being in my hometown. I usually get their fresh garden salad with thousand island dressing and a grilled cheese. I have a slight obsession with thousand island dressing and its usually hard to find a place that even has it, but they have it and it's always perfect! Yum. The restaurant is nothing fancy but that's ok, it's truly just a relaxed and welcoming environment. I'll be back here many more times, for as long as I live in the area! Thanks for the bomb diner food!

  • Tiffany Y.

I ordered a country steak and eggs for brunch and it was delicious! They were very nice about me sitting there drinking coffee and studying for an hour after eating and kept my water filled. Very nice people and a homey little restaurant.

Non descript little diner. Standard array of diner food, breakfast, lunch. What drew me in was the new patio on Broadway - this is a great addition! Also like the lunch counter and the general unpretentious, neighborhood vibe of this place. Good coffee too. Standard breakfast: Two eggs, scrambled with bacon and grits. Rye toast, coffee and Cranberry juice. Reliable and tasty.

  • Jennifer B.

This place is super convenient, so I keep coming here, but every time I do, I have regrets. The servers are always disorganized and confused for some reason. The food is not very good, and I have had incidents where I found a bug or mold in my food. Again, don't ask why I keep coming here. Probably because I love a laid back little diner for my solo breakfast outing. I just wish the one right my house was at least mediocre quality.

    (2)
  • Lee F.

Well the service issue has been corrected, thankfully. I still think it's a tad overpriced, but the food is good. Now that they have good waitresses again, I've been back and can more readily recommend it.

  • Nektaria R.

This place is awesome! From all the characters that frequent to the old school feel, I just loved it. Food was good too! We had a humongous amount of food. I had to question whether my 3 egg omelet really only had three eggs. Yup, it's all the fresh veggie that make it huge. And the bread slices! Huge! I ended up having half of my omelet for dinner on one of the slices of bread. Good coffee, good service, cash only, you gotta try it.

I only stopped in for coffee at Little Corner Restaurant, but the coffee was divine! It was that smooth robust diner coffee that I love. Do you know what else I love? Lunch counters. You know...the vintage kind of lunch counter that is in the center of the restaurant where you expect to see a waitress named Flo chomping on her gum and serving up some Southern sass. Little Corner Restaurant has one.

    (4)
  • Patrick D.

The Little Corner Restaurant seems to be slipping. There's been a huge turn over of staff there and most of the new folks just aren't as friendly or as attentive. I've found myself going there less and less.

  • Demetri K.

I was discriminated against since I was a single dinner. I have been here many times alone for Saturday breakfast and without incident have been seated in a booth. Today I was told that they are "not allowed to seat singles in a booth" but I was welcome at the counter. I am a gentleman of size and wanted to sit in a booth with a back to the seating. The place was virtually empty with no one waiting, yet I was denied. I will not return alone or with friends as I have done in the past. I will also inform others of the discriminatory police of this establishment. Luckily for us singles there are many wonderful breakfast places in the neighborhood who welcome us.

  • James S.

still overpriced after a year and a half of not going there , do yourself a favor don't support these people, they don't learn and don't care, the only reason why they started allowing credit cards now is because they knew they were losing money, it cost $30.00 to feed four of us for breakfast this morning and it shouldn't have, they now separate the cost of drinks from food, they are gauging for more money out of people and no we will never go back ever again...avoid this place and I refused to leave a tip...here is a tip....STOP OVERPRICING....

I had the Denver omelette, hash browns, and toast. I think I enjoyed the toast the most. The food is not terrible, but it lacked flavor in my opinion. Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I was hungover, but this just didn't do it for me sober.

    (1)
  • Noah S.

Eggs, bacon, french toast, pancakes. Coffee promptly refilled. No frills. Old men reading newspapers at the counter discussing the futility of Chicago sports fandom. Parents treating their kids to Sunday breakfast. Content, mildly hungover young people eating hash browns to curb their nausea as they rehash the events of the last night's debauchery. The neighborhood diner you're always looking for but seldom seem to find. I do wish it was open later.

  • Matt M.

Not bad, good service. There is little or no wait on a busy saturday morning. I had the healthy french toast which was a healthy portion size and the eggs were clearly fresh. I do have to say that my food was served at a cooler temperature than I would have liked but I'm not going to piss and moan all day about it. Ironically, for a place with healthy options they do not stock skim milk (puzzled look). The fresh fruit medley also looks and tastes like it was cracked right out of a can. Again, for the price and style of restaurant I was not surpised at all, but I call them like I see em'. They claim to have the best ham around. Truth be told it is middle of the road.

  • Charles J.

My friend and I head to this spot a few times a month. The food is solid, the service has always been good, and the prices cannot be beat! When my friend and I cannot figure out where to go, we always say "How about Little Corner?" We have never been disappointed. Y'all definitely need to check this place out!

    (4)
  • Cassie M.

Not going to lie... since they keep firing their best waitresses (ahem... Anna & Krysta especially!), the atmosphere has really gone downhill. Food is still good, prices are still great, but there's no real connection with the staff anymore. Oh to everyone who complains about that one specific SUPER unpleasant brunette waitress? Lauren. She is the manager, & even when I was going as a regular (by which I mean 2 or 3 times a week) she would still rush us out on "busy" days. She's also the reason they're hiring dime-a-dozen waitresses instead of keeping the fantastic ones everyone loves. I have a feeling that without her glowering at everyone, reprimanding the girls publicly, & acting like the restaurant is her own mini-dictatorship that the atmosphere would once again be lovely & something to look forward to.

Good diner food, awesome service... Only subtracting a star because I have to say that it's 2011, in one of the largest cities in the US. Why oh why can't you accept my debit card?

  • Brandon T.

Wow, by far the worst breakfast in Chicago so far. Came here with my bro and a friend. Got the biscuits and gravy. Disgusting. Everything on everyones plate was disgusting.. Great prices, but like everyone says you get what you pay for. If you are really feeling lazy and want breakfast, you are close enough to a nice dominicks to grab some pilsbury cinnamon roles, a donut, or something! Save yourself from a terrible start to your day....

  • Heather N.

So many not good things I don't know where to start. Food was the worst breakfast I have ever had in Chicago! Greasy and not cooked pancakes :( I could see one of the cooks continuously going to the bathroom so he was sick or doing drugs - either way that is something that scares me. The atmosphere was not happening. Besides me and my husband, there was one older guy drinking coffee and no other traffic while we were their Friday morning. CASH ONLY too! I vote skip it!

  • Natalia S.

I only put one star because of the service. The food and price are really good. The two waitresses with reddish toned hair have serious attitude with the customers, or certain ones. I am a regular to this place, because I live by it and it's convenient, but every time I go I hope the waitress will be nice and it never happens. For example, when they get me something, I say thank you and they just turn and walk away. The are stone cold and rude. I don't know of it is because I am a girl that comes in alone, they seem pretty friendly with other men, but who knows. Whatever the case, and whatever the waitresses problems are outside of work (clearly, there must be some issues), they should learn to leave it at the door because they work in customer service and their salary is variable on how nice and good their service is!

  • Jared S.

This is a nice neighborhood diner. It has good soup, breakfast and sandwiches. I actually really love the turkey reuben. It does get packed and sometimes the waitresses can be a little short with you. After going a couple times though, you just get use to it. CASH ONLY!!!

The turkey club on wheat was amazing, good fries and salad. The polish sausage was great as well. Good service, reasonable price, great environment!

I think that everyone who works here takes happy pills because they were just so upbeat and friendly. The service was super fast and attentive; however I thought that the food was alright. Well actually, the cream of chicken soup I had was amazing. I devoured my bowl of soup within a few minutes. My gyros, on the other hand, was mediocre. The meat was the preformed type of gyros meat that are shaped into strips, not the chunky type you find at other gyros places. I have it for leftovers and I'm not too excited to finish it....but I will because wasting food sucks! I will probably be back though if I am in the mood for a quick diner meal. I like the cozy, neighborhood diner feel and I love the low prices!

No frills greasy spoon diner with typical diner fare. I haven't had chicken-fried steak and eggs in about seven years. I took the plunge at LCR and it was the artery-buster I remember from days of living dangerously. I liked that you could get pancakes instead of toast, but the service was less than stellar. Prices are between $5-10 for a full breakfast. The wife ordered the half french toast and it was a sizable portion (four half slices of FT). Ambiance leaves something to be desired, but that being said, LCR is a good place to take kids and no one seemed to care when my son spilled his water all over the table. If you're looking for a diner, and you want a break from the hipster douches that hang at M. Henry's, then LCR is the place for you. Now takes credit and debit cards, and has outside seating.

This is one of the best diners in the city! The service is great with no fuss and no attitude. The food is good and reasonably priced and the coffee is strong. All this and a pleasant, sunny corner location.

Mom and I stopped here by default today. We were hoping to have lunch at St. Andrews Pub, as we were in the neighborhood. I parked and paid the meter only to find St. Andrews doors locked, so we headed across the street to LCR. It is a nice little diner. It certainly looked clean, including the restroom. You have a choice of counter seating or booths. The booth we had was roomy. We both ordered their skirt steak special. It was under 8 dollars and came with a very nice cream of spinach soup, good fries, a little tasty cole slaw, dill pickle lettuce and tomato. The skirt steak, served on toast points was surprisingly flavorful. Mom, who usually eats like a bird, ate all of her steak, and it was a good size piece of meat. The service was very good. The waitress was attentive and cheerful to one and all. It seems like there are a lot of regulars that frequent this diner. We will go back and try some of the breakfast items. If they are as good as the steak special, will up the review to 4 stars.

I like fine dining and I like diners. Little Corner is a diner through and through. Nothing fancy and that's fine by me. Good cheese omelets, french toast, hash browns, corned beef hash, biscuits and gravy, club sandwiches, tuna melts, etc. All very solid diner food. Not too greasy, either! And having this place around the corner on a hangover Saturday or Sunday is a bonus! If you're looking for fine dining, move along. This is a true diner.

don't know what not to love about this place. i'm sad i'm moving out of the area soon-ish, because i just discovered this little gem yesterday! we stopped in around noon on a sunday. no wait to be seated. the food was delicious and affordably priced. i had a giant breakfast and my husband loved his deluxe bacon cheeseburger (with fries and soup.) the vibe is all retro and vintage and the service was seriously impressive. somebody went around periodically to make sure everyone's coffees were topped off, we received everything promptly. our server was quick and attentive. in my book, the old school register was adorable- "cash only" just adds to the charm. there are several nearby atms in case you forget! i'll definitely be back before we leave the area, and when we're visiting the neighborhood after we move. i suggest checking this place out!

  • Amanda S.

So my friend and I literally chose this place because we were in the area, hungry, and cold (he chose to wear a sweater during a snowstorm). Now, the food isn't fantastic by any means, but it was quick, filling, and I really couldn't find anything to complain about. The service was good, and our waitress noticed that our syrup container was empty before we did, and got us a full one instantly. Some people on here have complained about it being cash-only, but I think that is outweighed by them using a cash register that can truly be called antique. As a nerdy coin-collecting person, I appreciate them keeping a little piece of history alive and in daily use. I doubt I'll ever return to this place, but that's mostly because I don't foresee myself being in that area of the city again.

Je detest waiting. I do not wait for breakfast. I am far too hungry and under caffienated to deal with waiting in line for eggs in the morning. Esp when the weather is nice (like today) for the first time in eons, and I want to frollick in the park... The trick to no waiting on a weekend morning? Hit the small neighborhood diners like Little Corner restaurant. Preferably away from Lakeview/LP...as even those places down there get strained. Stroll in, be greeted warmly by a nice person (not a stressed out 20 year old hostess that is trying to corral 40,000 people into a small waiting area), sit, drink coffee and begin your meal in peace. No, there are not creative names like "green eggs and ham" or brie in the omelettes....but you also get them in about 12 minutes as opposed to 2.5 hours. There is no fruishi or kiwi drizzle or chai pancakes...just the regular old breakfast stuff, and I LOVE it. Bring me diner coffee and a Denver omelette any day of the week and I will be a happy camper. :) Service was friendly and swift, food was tasty and hot, coffee refills were aplenty....decor is old school, with a smattering of plants. But, not too many plants...then its sort of gross. LCR hits just the right plant ratio...old school register is a superb finishing touch, as are the very obvious (and sweet) regulars at the counter. So, if you don't like waiting, hit it up....or head to one of the trendy places, up to you...I just don't "do" waiting for breakfast! Or, maybe I shouldn't have even written this...hmmmm. :) CASH ONLY. Metered parking pretty easy.

This place is a great, no nonsense restaurant. I love their bacon, potatoes, eggs and toast. Pirces are reasonable and the place is basic, not fancy or pretentious. I love it here and feel comforable and satisfied every time. Who needs fancy cinnamon rolls down the street anyway?

I pass by this place often and finally decided to stop in for breakfast. I am glad I did. The counter was basically empty when I first walked in. I was not sure if I should just sit at the counter or wait to be seated so I asked. I guess it was fine, the girl seemed to nod at me and smile, but I sat at the counter, turned up my coffee cup and waited. I waited some more and two college couples sat on either side of me and started chatting away. The place was getting packed again and I guess there was some confusion as the waitress took the couple to my right's order. Ok now I am a bit miffed, but hey what are you going to do. It is about 1 PM or so and I do still look like I rolled out of bed and all, but hey, I did sit down first and my coffee cup is upright and ready to be filled. You know, diner style stuff. I forget the details here, but another waitress got me a menu and a cup of coffee on double time. I appreciated that. I put my order in for an cheddar and sausage omelet, with hash browns, and wheat toast. First, the coffee was great. My cup was kept filled and that rocks. Great coffee. Metropolis perhaps?? I would hope so since it is right around the corner, but whatever it is it was right on. The food was a bit above average. I mean this is not Lume's or Walker Brother's, but this is a good Greek style breakfast spot. I was pleased with the omelet and woofed it down like I hadn't eaten in a week. The toast was well buttered and a decent wheat bread. Satiated and caffeinated. I asked for a cup of coffee to go and was given a smallish, but adequate to go cup. I just wish the place was a little less busy so I could read a paper or something without feeling rushed. LCR you may have another regular.

The food isn't phenomenal but I'll eat an average breakfast or lunch if the service is impeccable, which, it is. This place does lock the doors at 4 so don't look forward to pot roast for dinner!

I've been in Edgewater off on on for the past 6 years and have always enjoyed the Little Corner Restaurant. While it may not have the most amazing food it's a great little diner, I see the same people every time I come in and they're always friendly. While I usually get breakfast they have tasty burgers and fries and a nice diner menu. Sometimes you just want straight forward diner food, and this place is it. I just wish they were open past 4!

I know others are not thrilled but I go out of my way to go here. I LOVE it. I have gone often and never a bad experience. I also found my perfect plate. The French Toast Special. French Toast - perfect width, well cooked in the middle. Check. Eggs (over-medium) - Always perfectly over medium Ham - the only place in the city I will eat ham. It's thick and flavorful. (and you can get a side of grits too) The waitresses are generally always very attentive, good on getting coffee around even to the most addicted coffee guzzlers among us. Ambiance is...well, there is none, but I never pay attention to it there. I'm going early, hungry, and wanting consistent french toast. It's a place to go eat and chat with friends. The only quirky thing about it is it's tendency to close for a few weeks unannounced to go on vacation. I would stop going a few months after walking up to a dark restaurant because I kept assuming they might still be closed. Still, there is a place in the world for unpretentious little diners, and you will find me there.

Solid place for brunch, but busy!

It is the typical American diner, complete with a circular counter, and a glass covered plate of donuts. The menu is extensive from French toast to spaghetti dinners. I overheard one waitress state she has worked there for over 12 years. It's a no frills type of place. One could easily pick it up, relocate it in a small town, and it would fit right in. Is the food anything more than what you could cook in your own kitchen? Probably not. Sometimes, it is nice to get out, have a simple meal, and enjoy the neighborhood. One thing I find amusing is they list they are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They close at 4pm. That is one early dinner.

Hits the spot for a cold chicago's day. Food takes a little while to get out-- but in true diner fashion, soup is out immediately for you to eat, warm up, and converse with your friends, or read the newspaper while you wait. friendly staff. short hours, though-- only open until 4pm i think.

A group of friends and I went to the Little Corner Restaurant this morning for breakfast after a late night. This is a pretty solid diner with all of the expected menu items: omelettes to grilled cheese to milkshakes. I had a cheddar & bacon breakfast skillet with a short stack of pancakes, a meal that hit the spot after some moderate drinking the night before. My only complaint was that the bacon in my skillet was undercooked but other than that it was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals (some people even ordering two), and the only other complaint was that the biscuits in the biscuits and gravy were dry. Overall, if you're looking for diner food, this is a good place to go. However, the restaurant is cash only so remember to bring some money with you.

My husband and I love this place! The staff is friendly and they remember who their customers are. As it was stated, they are fast with the orders. During the early morning it's quiet, once 8 am to 9 am hits it gets crowded. But we have our favorite booth and enjoy a game of scrabble while waiting for our food :) I recommend the Healthy French Toast and the Banana Nut pancakes! Yummy!

I went to this little restaurant for the first time in September, and made many returns since. I love it! I usually go for breakfast and lunch, and I have had multiple dishes, from pancakes to biscuits and gravy, but I usually get eggs, bacon, hash browns and an English muffin. The food is great, the price is right, but look out - cash only. Not only is the food good, but the service is great. The waitresses are always friendly and check the tables frequently for refills. Two thumbs up, LCR!

I wish this place was better...just around the corner from me it would be a super convenient brunch spot...but...they stink! The food is terrible! If given the choice I would far prefer Denny's or IHOP to Little Corner Restaurant, I mean seriously, the hash browns were even terrible! How can you mess up hashbrowns? Oh, by using rubbery ass frozen shredded potato! The only good thing is the staff, they are wonderfully friendly and attentive.

  • Jason L.

I really wanted to like "LCR". As far as diners in Edgewater go it's conveniently located on the corner of Broadway and Thorndale. But Standees has better food and is only one Red Line train stop further north. Augie's in Andersonville was my favorite brunch spot in the area until they closed. The price is right but everything on the menu is pretty drab. Have to agree with Jan that the hours are strange too. It's never open when I walk by hungry.

I love diners, and since my favorite closed I've been looking for a new, low-key, easy going spot. FOUND IT!! perfect diner food, seems like a good diner crowd. waitress/service was all that i would expect. i will definitely be returning, I am so glad i stopped in!! ooo and FYI its cash only!

I was torn on how many stars to give this little place. I would say it's about a 3 and 1/2 but I decided to round up because for what category it's in, little greasy diner, it's pretty good! LCR is a no frills place that does the basics. And they do them pretty well compare to others in their same category. I, like others, wish they had longer hours, because sometimes at 10pm at night, I crave pancakes and eggs. And I would love to be able to walk on over and eat up! We went on a weekend late morning and it was crowded, but not so much that we had to wait for a table. The servers were nice, but no nonsense kind of gals. They took your order quickly and then were on their way to the next table. But that works for me because they busted their behinds and got us our food so quickly I barely had time sip my water twice! The cooks in the back are also responsible for this. Way to go! I love quick service, that's one of the main reasons to go to LCR! The food was good, I got pancakes, eggs and hashbrowns. All yummy, though the hash browns were most notable because they seemed like real potatoes, none of that fake thinly shredded stuff. Next time, I'm going back for an omelet, they sounded yummy. And the prices, man they were cheap! And it was a decent amount of food for the price too. All in all, I think we found a new place to visit when we are craving some greasy and simply made breakfast foods. Gotta support the local businesses too!

I have always walked by this place and wanted to give it a whirl. Unfortunately, its very limited hours (6AM to 4PM) are something of an impediment to slaves to the 9-5 grind. However, hungover on a Sunday and barely motivated to get off my couch, much less make my own French toast, I headed over to the Little Corner Restaurant. The crowd was a mix of regulars and Loyola students, with the occasional stroller parked beside a family booth. Most of the regulars were seated around the rectangular counter, which dominates the middle of the restaurant, bantering familiarly with the waitstaff. Definitely a great place to sit and relax with the Sunday paper. There was no wait to be seated and the service was friendly, quick, and efficient. A coffee mug or water glass never went unfilled. My French toast arrived hot off the griddle, though I wish I could say the same for my hashbrowns and sausage, which were served lukewarm. However, that was my only complaint. Overall, the food was what you would expect from a diner - traditional and solid with breakfast served all day. It was a pleasant, "back-to-basics" change-up from my usual, froofier Andersonville fare. Plus the diner prices make it an enticing choice when you're low on cash, but have a hankering for comfort food.

Cheap prices, fast service and close proximity makes this my favorite breakfast diner. The menu is your standard diner menu and nothing extravagant or out of the ordinary. Sometimes simplicity is best and that is definitely the case here. If you are having breakfast with a big group, they can definitely accommodate your crew as there is ample seating towards the back of the restaurant. The awning on the outside of this restaurant says that they serve dinner, but I have never seen it open past 4pm.

You are able to get your typical diner breakfast here at a good price. I have had a couple of omelets as well and there were both very good. This is a Cash Only establishment which makes it a place I have to plan to go as I rarely carry cash, but for a quick, cheap breakfast, it does the job. The staff is very friendly and your coffee or water never gets to far below half before it is refilled again.

Nice little corner diner, aptly named "Little Corner." It's breakfast and lunch--and cash--only, but it does what it does well. Simple diner food. It's quick, it's tasty, and it's pretty cheap. It's not a cheap greasy spoon, a la Standee's, but, at least in my book, that puts it a step above. Nice mixed crowd, much like Edgewater itself, without a lot of the... how do I put this nicely... characters one encounters at Standee's. Service has always been pleasant and attentive. Really no complaints, but really no raves either. It's just a good, solid breakfast joint.

If you're looking for a decent, inexpensive breakfast, this is your place. I haven't been in a while but got egg white omelets fairly often, and they always did a good job of making sure they were nice and fluffy and not burnt. The potatoes were good too and not too greasy, although the toast was always saturated with butter. I'm guessing the owners are Greek or of Mediterranean descent since they have items like gyro omelets and others that you wouldn't typically expect to pop up on the breakfast menu at a diner. They're open through 4 for lunch as well, but I've only ever tried their breakfast items. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the food comes out much quicker than you would anticipate, given how crowded it normally is when we go. Like I said, if you're looking for a cheap breakfast, this is your place. On the other hand, if you don't mind spending a little bit more for something a step above, cross the street and have your brunch at Broadway Wine Cellars.

My husband and I have been to almost every breakfast place in the Edgewater/ Roger's Park/ Andersonville area. So we finally made it to Little Corner Restaurant. And while the place is a little quirky on the inside, the food was sizeable and yummy! The booth we sat in was teeny, and I think the seats had been pushed closer to the table than normal. But for a greasy spoon (and don't get me wrong, I love my greasy spoons) this was a great place! And great prices! Do it. Eat here. I dare you.

  • Annie S.

I go here occasionally when I'm in the area. This is a standard diner and it's never busy. Prices are cheap and they have good breakfast food, but nothing to rave about. I usually get sausage and eggs w/hashbrowns. I like this place b/c it's simple and fast service. But I would never go out of my way to eat here.

So, I've gone to this diner several times since I moved to Edgewater a couple years ago. It's your typical diner food and setting. They're cash only which is kind of annoying since the average meal is at least $10 with 20% tip. Normally everyone is friendly, sometimes a little too casual. I went to lunch last week and the server was yelling to a table in the next aisle while standing at our table. It was disruptive. But, today, my opinion of this place was sufficiently defined. I walked in, there were a couple empty booths - no one seemed rushed. The hostess came over and asked how many, I told her it was just me and she tells me that I can sit at the counter between 5 old men or at the tiny table a foot across from a booth seating four people and a baby in a high-chair. I asked her if I could wait for a table to open up and she told me that I can't sit at a booth with only one in the party because "...y'know, it's Saturday and we're busy". What the hell does that mean?! So, because I don't have enough people with me, I can't have the luxury of sitting where I want? Seriously, it takes me less than 30 minutes to eat breakfast and I leave at least 20% tip. Gimme a break. I considered walking out, but didn't want to be dramatic and REALLY wanted a waffle. So, I sit right next to one of the elderly men at the counter who proceeds to tell me how cute I look and ask all kinds of questions about the marathon hat I was wearing. There was no sugar for my coffee so I'm waiting for the server to come over....she never did. Finally, after seeing there were no waffles, I ordered the biscuits and gravy special. The server finally comes over (mind you she was standing at the other side of the counter reading a magazine this whole time) and says "You ready?"...so, I order. I finally get some mediocre coffee and some sugar, I entertain the old guys, and when the server puts my food down, she also leaves the check. Really? You can't wait until I'm halfway thru? I realize this isn't the Ritz, but you could TRY to be polite. THEN, this other woman comes over to the old guys - one of which is kind of an asshole and picks on everyone - and, without saying hello to them, looks at the semi-asshole and says "Not today, *insert name*, I am NOT in the mood." Just like that. Who the hell are you? I used to work in a pancake house and I know people, especially old men, can be irritating - but, suck it up and do your job. No one gives a shit about your mood. We're all in shitty moods because we're sitting at a counter which is too far from it's attached seats to possibly be comfortable for eating our meals and we just got back from the ATM where we had to withdraw an entire $20 for a $7.42 meal. I love diners - as a matter of fact, I have traveled great lengths to frequent ones that are exceptional. This is not one of them. There's a brunch place opening up around the corner at Granville and Broadway, I'd travel the extra 3 blocks.

Okay, my first review on Yelp, but NOT my first visit to the Little Corner Restaurant on the corner of Thorndale and Broadway. I've been here so many times I've lost count, and I've always had very good service and the food is really good. Standard diner fare, but that's what I want and that's what I get. I can only review their breakfast items because I'm the world's biggest breakfast freak and whenever I go to to a diner, I will *always* get breakfast, no matter the time of day. But I digress. The last time I visited, I sat myself at one of the single booths (I was by myself). It was around 12:30 on a Sunday, and the place was pretty empty. Most of the (double) booths were empty. One thing I noticed right away was that their wrap-around windows (which I love because I can look out into the street and see the city life while I eat, and give the diner a nice bright look) were completely covered with (new curtains). Big turnoff. It literally felt like I was inside a hearse or a funeral parlor. It was a beautifully sunny day outside, and the sun was NOT coming in through the windows, but they were all covered. Every single one of them. The diner was so dark it just felt depressing being there. So I decided to get up and move to one of the double booths by the window so I could move the curtains and look outside. I've sat there before, by myself, no problem. Right away, the hostess came up and very cheerfully and smiling, asked me if it was okay if I did NOT sit there. I said, why, the place is empty? She said they get pretty busy around 1:00 and was worried they would fill up. This happened in full view and earshot of the few people in the place and the staff, and it seemed everybody was looking at me. I felt offended and humiliated. I went back to my original seat and told her I would be there for a just a few minutes (I had already ordered and was in a hurry to eat and leave) and I said, fine, don't worry about it, I'm leaving pretty soon anyway. Oh, and I asked her why all the windows were covered and she said that sometimes the "kids" look inside the windows and some customers complain about that. Seriously? REALLY? You know what? If I wanted to sit in the dark and eat with the windows covered, I'd stay at home and cook my own breakfast, thank you very much. I get my order and start eating it and a curious thing happened. My coffee cup didn't get refilled. My water cup didn't get refilled. The server brought my check without me asking for it and didn't even ask if everything was okay as she put the check on the table. I felt horrible. This had never happened to me before. This place is legendary for their awesome service. I'm really hoping the hostess and the server were both having a bad day and this will not happen again. The food? Well, the food is always awesome! My bacon and cheddar omelette was amazing, as always, and the hash browns! I don't know how they do it, but those hash browns are something else. I really look forward coming here just for the omelettes and the hash browns. The rye toast is always a good addition to the mix. Their coffee is okay, nothing special, and I've had much worse, so I'm not complaining. The food always comes out super fast. I'm usually actually startled that it's done so fast, yet nothing is undercooked. It's all delicious and hot. I tipped my usual 20% and even (as I always do) rounded up to the next dollar, regardless of what happened, mainly because the food was so good. As I got up to leave, the hostess came up to me and said "Oh, I guess you could've sat by the window, I apologize" and proceeded to open the curtains and let the light come in. Just as I'm leaving? Too late for that. I will return here, because I live two just blocks away, so it would be stupid to write them off because of one isolated incident. But I will keep my eyes open the next time I'm there, and I'll be a bit more assertive. I am the customer, after all, and I vote with my wallet. I'm a very respectful and civilized customer, and I always tip very well. Treat me right and you'll have a customer for life. Simple. Last but not least, I still hate that I have to get cash from the ATM just to come here. I usually carry very little cash, so this is a huge inconvenience for me. Sometimes I have to walk 2 blocks the other way to the ATM and come back. That's annoying. Also, they have a huge sidewalk right outside their window facing west - why do you not have an outdoor seating area? What could be cooler than sitting at a table outside enjoying great diner food? I'm not looking for luxury, but a few tables and chairs outside would be nice (I *love* sidewalk cafes). For those two reasons, no matter how good the food is, no five stars from me. And if all goes well during my next visit, I might edit my review and add a star. Maybe.

Since my last review, Little Corner underwent a face lift that was very much needed. They now have new booths and tables and opened up a back room for additional seating. The food is still good and priced right.

Simple fare, cheap prices. Don't expect frills and don't expect to try your newfound foodie vocabulary you acquired by watching "Top Chef" or something on the Food Network. But, if you are too hung over, tired or lazy to cook yourself some fried eggs and toast, this is the place. I LOVE the counter in the middle of front room. I feel as if I am in a time machine. Too bad this place isn't open in the wee hours of the night; it totally would be a recreation of Hopper's "Nighthawks." I don't smoke or drink coffee, but everytime I step in here, I feel that I should. And I feel that if I am ever running from the law, this is the place I would meet my friend who will give me the cash they got from my secret bank deposit box.

This is, LITERALLY, a little restaurant on the corner of Thorndale & Broadway. They do not, contrary to popular belief, serve corners. So if you've an appetite for angular conjunctions of structures, seek shelter elsewhere. If you're looking for some good breakfast food, you've got it. I used to live right nearby, but due to a) rarely being around the neighborhood and looking to get food in the mornings/afternoons and b) the cash-only stipulation, as I typically don't carry cash, it was quite some time before I actually ate here. I was certainly sorry that I waited so long to try it. I took my buddy Pat, who was in from out of town, for breakfast before he had to split. We each ordered omelettes, which came with hashbrowns and toast, and coffee. My omelette was loaded with mushrooms and filled with melty, melty swiss. Totally delicious. We were offered hot sauce to top, which suited us. I'm a fan of spicy foods in general, and in particular on hash browns. Pat gave a few dashes to his eggs. We both killed our plates; coffee was kept refilled through the end of the meal. Service didn't quite come with a smile, but not a scowl, either. The bill between the two of us was about $11, including tip. Mad props for cheap and filling food. We were in and out. Sure, nothing spectacular, but a solid breakfast. Worth the pop-in if you're in that neck of the woods.

LOVE this place. We ate here all the time when we lived in Edgewater. We actually drive down from Rogers Park at least once a month to catch up on the tasty breakfast at this greasy spoon! I'm a huge fan of the French Toast Special Plus or Pancake Special Plus (French toast or pancakes, with 2 eggs and a meat) for only 6.50 or so.

Three stars based on equal parts delectability and economy. I recently went there with my father and a huge breakfast for the two of us cost $13. Yes, they have grits. Get a window seat on the Thorndale side and people watch as pedestrians walk to and from the El. Better still, turn your gaze on the counter in the middle of the restaurant and feast your eyes on the choice characters that set the far north side apart from Lincoln Park and Wrigleyville. But back to the food: It's good. The coffee's good too. The staff are professional and friendly, to boot. Go to this diner, expect diner food, and you'll be happy.

The Little Corner Restaurant does not reinvent the wheel as far as small diners go, but it definitely gets the job done. I ordered the gyro and feta cheese omelet with a side of hash browns, and my girlfriend ordered two eggs and some pancakes. My omelet was absolutely incredible, I have never had gyros on an omelet prior to eating here and it rocked my world. I tried some of my girlfriends pancakes and thoroughly enjoyed them too. And to top off the entire dining experience the staff was very friendly. I ended up leaving my glasses there, started walking back, and noticed one of the employees running across the street just to give them back! Due to their solid food and sheer kindness, the Little Corner Restaurant has made me a loyal customer.

Typical of what you'd expect from a cheap breakfast diner. I had an omellete which was okay. I've had better and worse. The thing that I liked about the place and would bring me back was that the staff was extremely friendly.

I read many reviews that stated that they had bad service- and they couldn't have been more right. BUT the food was great! I had the chicken fried steak with eggs and hash browns. I would eat that gravy on just about anything- I mean, it is to die for! The coffee is great too, but good luck getting quick refills.

Went to have some breakfast a few weeks back and I meant to write and post a review earlier but this place just really didn't do anything for me. What a small, intimate and inexpensively priced diner! The breakfast is consistently solid along with the attentive waitstaff. It's a nice neighborhood diner in Edgewater right near the Red Line stop. Want a good breakfast and not pay too much for it? Try this local spot!

Have been going for a dozen years or so Brought the kids as they were growing up - as I showed them diner after diner (before so many closed like the Uptown on Broadway near Lawrence and Augie's on Clark near Bryn Mawr) I love the omelets - cheese - simple, tasty, and a couple of bucks cheaper then name brand locations. Note - I choose the grits and not the hash browns my sons get. Frankly, I do not know if the grits are fair? good? or great ? - but to this Northerner their warm grits are a perfect "excuse" for some more butter and salt with my excellent simple cheese omelet (American cheese that is). Friendly place - clean Ted R

I've been here a ton of times; it's a cute place with reasonable food in big portions. What can I say, it's pretty standard fare. Well what I can say is the wait staff is great, the kitchen is fast, and if you go there more than twice the proprietor will start to recognize you. When you find yourself waking up on broadway on a saturday or sunday morning -- like you do -- check out the Corner.

Pretty darn good! Only 4 stars because it's not as good as the diners back home....However, my favorite here is the spinach and feta omelette. It comes with potatoes (sliced, not shredded) and toast- for about $6.50. Not too bad, but a little pricey for a diner....Stick with breakfast ONLY- it's a diner, after all.

Pretty good breakfast stuff. Nothing extraordinary, but the service is good, the prices are decent, and it's close. Recommended for a lazy Sunday morning. My only complaint is the hours are a little weird, I'd like to go for dinner some time but they close at 4.

Friendly, cheap, and convenient to the Thorndale El stop. Pleasant, unassuming, unexciting, unpretentious, simple diner food, served by people who are higly liable to call you "hon" or some variation thereof. Only open for breakfast and lunch (despite the awning), credit cards not accepted.

So I've lived in Edgewater for 2 1/2 years and never went in here because it looked a little dumpy - but who am I to judge, Standee's was my favorite place until it closed and it definitely looked worse than this place! So I ventured in here for breakfast a while back and walked in the door that was closest to my approach and was open. The waitress that greeted me was shocked to see me, she seemed to think I'd come from the apartments upstairs and told me so. Um, ok. Because I was by myself and didn't want to sit at the bar - she made me sit in the backroom by myself. Which was annoying, but whatever. The breakfast was inexpensive and good, but not spectacular. But we're talking eggs, bacon and pancakes, so that's fine. I was a little put off by the service, so I didn't return for a while, but I went back this week and it was better. I'm a big fan of blueberry pancakes, and they have them, so that's a bonus. The waitress was attentive, and very friendly, especially with her regulars. As one other mentioned, it's very casual here and the waitress and staff were yelling across the restaurant to various people, but it's just that kind of place, I didn't mind. The food is good, they don't rush you out so you can have a nice leisurely breakfast with your paper and leave full without an empty wallet. Just make sure your wallet has some cash in it when you come in, because your plastic is no good here.

I enjoy the great food at this place and the customer service is good. The Greek Salad is practically perfect and the Turkey Club is good. It can be crowded and if that is the case I get it to go; I also call in ahead of time and order carry out that way. Prices are reasonable

This is a quality greasy spoon! I've gone here dozens of times but only do breakfast. I think they close around 3-4pm. It's good, inexpensive and the food comes hot and quickly every time. The wait staff is attentive and very friendly.
