Plenty of vegan options; basically anything can be turned into a vegan dish with an easy mention of the word. Prices are great, service was friendly. Cozy, comfortable counter service.

The food is really solid. Prices are reasonable given quantity and location. Sadly, they only get the order correct about 50% of the time. Something as simple as no beans, only rice on the side. Not too difficult. But frequently wrong. Oh well...

These quesadillas Francine, these quesadillas! (American Dad reference) Seriously, this place is amazing! They have a huge vegetarian selection to go along with it's traditional meat one and both are incredibly delicious. The best was the chicken seitan grande quesadilla.

If you're in Logan Square and are looking for a Mexican fast-food joint with some vegetarian options? La Cocina might be exactly what you're looking for. Take the seitan tacos for a spin, or try out the seitan burrito in addition to vegetarian rice and beans. Don't forget the pico de gallo and chips! Delicious! (Upton's Naturals choices- chicken, beef or chorizo)

I really wanted to like this place, walking distance from my house wanted to make this place my taco place, but 2 orders gone wrong and plastic wrapping on my rice is not so yummy after all

I had such high hopes for this place, especially after reading the reviews on here, but the food here was not worth the drive. Don't get me wrong the guys that work here are absolutely great, I really liked the customer service and that alone would earn them 5 stars. The food on the other hand was flavorless and in my opinion not good. We ordered the sopes and a vegetarian "beef" burrito. The sopes weren't greasy, which is good, but the meat lacked flavor. The vegetarian beef seitan wasn't any better. The seitan was flavorless and only came with cilantro and onions...where's the beans, lettuce, and cheese?! I tried adding some taste to it by adding their salsa...Omg was that horrible.. the salsa was just disgusting. I ended up just throwing the food away. The only good thing I had from here was the hochata. So not worth the drive or the headache of looking for parking in this congested area.

Amazing amazing amazing amazing amazing....and so on. Eat it. Eat it now. The taco salad is ridiculously good. It's essentially a taco pie as it's served inside of a GIANT DELICIOUS DEEP FRIED taco shell. Holy crap. Just eat it. Also the guy who served us was so nice. We pretty much wanted to hug him.

So loving this place! Love Taco Tuesday and Sopas Saturday. With kids, it's hard to find a place where everyone can get something they like and not have it cost an arm and a leg. Love the beef and potato taco, sopas and a large horchata you can swim in for $2! We have not tried the seitan options, but they seem to sell quite well. Today we forgot the bag with chips and they chased us 3 blocks to give them to us! Super service, very friendly, no pretenses! No weird ingredients or "fusion" foods. Just traditional, authentic food. Salsas are awesome!

Pretty much the best chorizo tacos I have ever eaten. Salsa is just this side of too spicy (which is my FAVORITE KIND, not a complaint!) and it's BYO which makes it even better. Delicious all around.

I finally tried this place and I must say delish! I'm not a huge burrito person even though I'm a big boy, well let me tell you I loved it! Going back to try their tortas and tacos!

Great tacos! The beans are really delicious too. No pico, but they had a nice tomatillo salsa. I will be back!

Solid food for cheap. Dollar tacos on Tuesdays, though the more expensive varieties (particularly the fish) are worth the extra scratch. Counter service, but you still get the little extras like chips & 3 salsa options. Incredibly fast & equally courteous service. Overall just a great quick stop taqueria.

I frequent this place. It's a few blocks away from my apartment, it's cheap, and it's really good. We've been hitting up the dollar tacos on an almost weekly basis and I'm glad they've started offering french fries. The service is really friendly and sometimes they'll toss in some freebies. However, the last handful of times that we've been in, they've been out of what I wanted. Their barbacoa is amazing and when I trek over in the rain to get it in burrito form, I get super bummed when they're not only out of that, but are also out of that awesome bean and bacon soup. And it's become so frequent that they're out of things lately that I want to suggest that they put on a sign on the door daily detailing what is on the menu but they don't actually have.

La Cocina is a great neighborhood taco joint! I'm used to having to order veggie tacos when I go to a Mexican restaurant - but at La Cocina I'm so glad to have the oprion of seitan! The seitan tacos are delish (all of the flavors are good, but my favorite is the chorizo). The guys who work there are super friendly.and the price is right. La Cocina is a new favorite!

perfect for vegetarians and vegans, even my meat eating friends love their food :)

I live a block away from this joint. This location has had 3 former restaurants that just didn't make it. When La Cocina opened up I thought to myself " This place isnt going to last 6 months" Like the past restaurants. It's been over a year and a half and I walked in Last week for the first time. I ordered 4 tacos de Asada and a quesadilla. The food was delicious but the only thing I had a problem with is the time they took to make the food. I've gone back 3 times since last week each time I placed an order over phone. Overall the food quality is great and the dining area is very clean and cozy. They also have free wifi and plenty of seats for a small place. I would love if this place opened Sundays but I will definitely give this place another visit really soon.

I tried this spot because of the good reviews on Yelp and because they serve seitan. I really enjoy good vegetarian options where you don't expect to find them. I eat meat but I find that Uptown's seitan is really a good meat substitute especially if you are covering it with cheese, salsa and sour cream. The server was friendly and helpful and was honest in saying that he prefers meat over the seitan when asked. I tried the torta with chorizo seitan which was tasty. My bf had the veggie burrito which he enjoyed. Chips and salsa was served to us gratis as we waited for our food. This place is exactly what I was expecting/hoping it would be. No frills and fresh, tasty ingredients.

Upton's Seitan (Chorizo/Chicken/Beef), Beans cooked with vegetable oil, onions, cilantro, and authentic tortillas = Vegan Burrito/Taco/joy. Staff on Monday night is the bee's knees, but not entirely sure of other days they are there. It shouldn't matter, the food will be just as delicious any other day. Be forewarned that the price for the seitan dishes is slightly more, but it states it on the separate special menu. Be happy and gorge away.

best burrito i ever had...sorry chipotle. these guys have authentic mexican food and it tastes great, and its affordable. they have several specials during the week...service is fast...which is of the utmost importance when you are running your ass off for fedex...

The al pastor is fantastically spicy, and the guys behind the counter are awesome. This place may not look like much, but trust me its probably the best taco counter in Logan Square.

I just finished scarfing down 4 tacos from my first visit to La Cocina. Today was $1 Taco Tuesday, which means 1 of the tacos on the menu is priced like that (the others are the regular $1.79). I assume it rotates. Today's special was $1 chorizo con papas (mexican sausage with potatoes) tacos, and of the four tacos I ate it was definitely the best . It was deliciously spiced and the potatoes did a lot to tone down the salt in the chorizo without compromising flavor. The other 3 tacos, from best to least for me, were barbacoa (slow roasted beef), carne asada (grilled beef), and pollo (chicken). All the tacos were good, but the chorizo & the barbacoa were excellent. The La Cocina barbacoa may in fact be the best version I've ever had of that taco. The carne asada was solid, but the pollo taco, even though the white breast meat was tender and clearly fresh, was lacking a little in flavor. (After reading other reviews, I now think I should have ordered the "seasoned chicken"; I didn't realize from the menu that there was a difference....) All were garnished with cilantro and onion that was fresh and flavorful. The salsa verde was decent and the tortillas were very good. (One suggestion I would make, Victor, [the really nice guy who took my order], is to add a slice of lime to the asada and barbacoa tacos. Then they would be perfect.) Overall, I was impressed and I definitely plan on coming back to try more things on the menu. So far I would say La Cocina should be a go-to spot for anyone in the neighborhood who is craving good quality Mexican. If you're not from the neighborhood, don't make a special trip to Logan Square/Avondale; but when you are here, make a point of stopping by La Cocina for a taco.

when my boyfriend first told me that this place was awesome, i wasn't exactly sold - this is, after all, a gent who, despite having spent the better part of a decade working in kitchens & schooling himself in the finer points of cuisine, considers the "foldability" of a microwave pizza a vital factor in its deliciousness. so i decided to bide my time. i waited. & waited. & waited. & eventually it got really old watching him come home with multiple bags of awesome, telling me how the owner had explained the ingredients of each night's dish to him, drooling over the freshly torn cilantro, the made-to-order guacamole with the squeeze of real lime, the tenderness of their barbacoa and the bits of pineapple in the pork (which, he adds, may not have been pineapple but "a really tasty hunk of fat" instead). so i placed my own orders & HOLY BALLS. the rice is REAL mexican rice - not that boxed mix crap you'll find at other places - & the beans, though a bit mild in flavor, are fresh, not too salty, covered with just the right amount of cheese & peppered with a few fresh beans. the tacos are excellent, especially when done mexican style (with a large handful of cilantro & onions) & nothing is too greasy. they're not all total winners - the bean soup is a bit watery, the chips are occasionally over-fried, but really, these are not big issues. la cocina is impeccably clean, incredibly friendly, & the price is (according to my culinary-educated bf) "a dollar or two less than what they could charge". if you're not into spending an arm & a leg for rick bayless' "mexican" & you're not drunk enough to eat anything from lazo's, la cocina is a wonderful new joint in a neighborhood where good food is definitely lacking.

Effin delicious! Just around the corner from my apartment and consistently delicious mexican food-especially for the mid-west. Owners are super cool and friendly...AND they play the best tele-novelas this side of the mississippi.

Food was really good & the price is right. My favorite thing about this place is the service. They are so friendly and do a great job. I hope this place does better than the last 3 places that opened in this location.

I stopped in today because i saw the sign on the window, and was slightly hungry. $1 Barbacao taco, and a Chicken tostada, for like 3.50, it was just enough! I probably wont be coming over here JUST for the tacos, but i wouldn't count it out in the future. They were yummy
(4)
Robert H.
I got a chicken taco, a barbacoa burrito, chips and guac and salsa. The counter service was great, and the food was alright... I bit into a huge pocket of fat in the burrito, but the taco and rice were super awesome! Salsa is super salty, but good.
(3)

Place is clean but the food is bland and not impressive at all. I had barbacoa tacos and couldn't taste any sort of seasoning. Next I tried a simple bean and cheese burrito = bleh! I'll give it another shot in a couple months because it's so close to my apartment.

Pretty damn good tacos. Charbroiled steak tacos are comparable to La Pasadita Tacos. SOOOO much cheaper though! Guy behind the counter, who might be the owner, was incredibly friendly and courteous. Got some free frijoles charros, or "bean soup" for all my gringos out there. Those were pretty damn yummy too. I can't say much for their other menu items because I haven't tried them, but their steak tacos are a winner.

Oh my goodness; I love this place more than words can express. (So much that I joined Yelp JUST to review it!) My neighbor and I have been going here since the day they opened, and frequent it so often that we refer to by the proprietor's name (ie, wanna grab some tacos at Erik's tonight?). The menu, though not extensive, is growing, and what they do, they do right! I have lived in the area for 10 years, and have been a frequent visitor to El Cid, Arturo's, and the other million Mexican places throughout Logan and Humboldt. This blows them out of the water. The service is excellent- superb- fantastic. The owners seem genuinely interested in feedback about their food and what they can change (please, don't change anything!) I took my mom there this past weekend, and after hearing that it was her birthday the following day, the owner insisted on comping her meal. Now, that's class. Go there. Go there now! You will not regret it!

the food here is still amazing but dining in is not so great because they don't have any AC and the sun shines too brightly into the restaurant. if the place is too hot, i just take the food to go.

La Cocina is great! I had the steak tacos and they were delicious. My husband had the steak burrito and was very impressed. The steak was unbelievably good. The salsas they offer are also really good. The service was friendly and the place was clean. Overall, good food, good service, and nice prices. I'll definitely go back!

These are hands down the best tacos I've ever had. I ate here on a Friday. They had just opened on Monday. The place was sparkling clean and barely look like any food had been cooked there. The guys working were extremely friendly and excited to make my tacos. The pickles, chips and salsa, and bean soup were all delicious. But the tacos. The tacos! I don't know what they're putting in there, but these tacos are way better than Arturo's or El Cid or anywhere else. Al pastor and asada were probably the best, but pollo and barbacoa were pretty much slammin, too. I brought my bf back the next day and he agreed.

After reading the reviews about this place I thought wow, being on a vegan challenge, I really have to try their tacos because not everyone can make a good seitan product. Not only did I not like them, I thought they were terrible. They were fried too crisp, too oily and the flavor was just not there. There are some good places to get vegan tacos in chicago but this is not one of them. I definitely wont be back and don't recommend it for a vegan option either.

I have eaten almost everything off the vegan menu. It is great. I love this place. They are always friendly, fast, and wonderful. I am so happy to have an amazing and friendly place to eat with plentiful vegan options. This is one of my favorite places to eat in the city, hands down.

This place has been on a downward turn for a while. They toned down the salsas, the chips are still pretty salty, and the meat fillings have become less flavorful and in some cases dry. Oh, and that world-historical painting of an Aztec who has just slayed a conquistador? Gone. I hear they're doing brunches periodically now, but I'm afraid to say that this place is a distant second to Patron around these parts.

Aaron T.
I have been to this place countless times, always on $1 taco tuesday. All of the tacos are made to order and overall just some tasty mexican food done right. The staff there is pretty friendly and they make your order fairly quick. If you are looking for some cheap good eats check it out. Nothing else around the area can top it as far as mexican food goes. Careful of the hot and mild sauces, they are both really hot!
(4)

Sometimes you just gotta eat some tacos. In my case, I eat them weekly. There are four taco places in my neighborhood and La Cocina wins for taste, cleanliness, and speed! Their menus are simple, uncomplicated, and clean!!! My favorites are al pastor tacos and chorizo tacos. Both meats have most of the fat rendered off so you end up with some crispy, flavorful deliciousness. A few other cool things about this place is that they deliver around the neighborhood, offer seitan, and take both cash and credit! The only reason I am leaving off one star is because they are not open Sundays and I want their tacos everyday!
(4)
Andrew S.
There are some fundamental errors reoccurring each time I order from them. First of all, the owners are incredibly nice and friendly- this review is not to discredit them as business owners but to point out a few failures of their operation. La Cocina is decent Mexican restaurant that delivers, thats correct, good mexican food that could be delivered to your front door. The only problem is that I have never received the correct order- nothings more aggravating then taking the time (often having to repeat the order several times over the phone- mind you there is no language barrier) just to receive the incorrect order accompanied with congealed salsa. I used to be a fan of this restaurant, i'm not sure what transpired, perhaps a change in the front of house but some factor certainly has affected their business.

You wouldn't know from just going past, but this place is really good and really affordable. They have specials Tues.-Sat. My friend is vegetarian and she raved about the food. The service is good, too.
(4)

If I could, I would eat here every day. On the days I am in the neighborhood I always choose this joint. Great Mexican food at affordable prices. You should ask about and try their specials, like Taco Tuesday or Tostada Friday. I like variety, and each week the special of the day is served with a different type of meat. And although I am not vegetarian, I appreciate that they try to serve that population as well, as I have a number of friends who are vegan/vegetarian.

I love Mexican food and am sure to try it everywhere I go. Safe to say this was probably one of the worst, if not the worst, place I've gone. I ordered the veggie tacos, which were supposed to come with avocado...but didn't. The tomatoes weren't ripe, and i meant really not ripe, and there was no cheese to be found anywhere. The "salsa" is a nasty paste, although my boyfriend did seem to enjoy their salsa verde. He ordered the Mexican burrito and was also disappointed by his meal. I didn't think there was a single bad place to eat in Logan Square, unfortunately I was proved wrong.

I kept seeing the "All Natural Seitan" lettering in the window as I passed by this little neighbourhood joint, so I had to check it out. I had the seitan "chorizo" burrito with vegan cheese (Daiya). You can order your food Mexicano (cilantro and onions) or Americano (lettuce and tomatoes). I opted for the prior. The burrito was huge and quite heavy; I'm used to veggie burritos (sans cheese) to be not as substantial. Usually I finish all my food, but I had a little bit of the flour tortilla that I couldn't quite pack in my belly. The atmosphere is nothing special, but it's a great place for a quick bite to eat or to take out. Definitely will return.

This place gets down to business. Ya walk in, order grab a seat and they bring it all to ya. I enjoyed their deliciously salty chips and the squeezy salsa! They have a great vegetarian menu! I enjoyed my overly stuffed chorizo burrito with onion and cilantro. This place is fast, fresh, and friendly! I'm intrigued to go back and try their asada fries, sounds delish! Great guacamole too! Bathroom note: good! Poopable level: zero because it's a restaurant and it's a unisex bathroom. If you're cool with the potential hot guy/gal waiting on the other side of the door smelling what just came out then by all means, poop away!

Best not meat-meat tacos on the north side. Everyone is also very friendly and they do a great job of explaining everything on the menu. Usually not too busy and 1 dollar tacos on tuesday! What?! Ya gotta go

Nik Z.
This is my favorite place. Authentic because you're supposed to use their homemade salsas to flavor your food, like you do in Mexico, you're supposed to use the condiments of the green, red and pico de gallo salsas to accent the fresh entrees. Having travelled the west coast of Mexico and enjoyed the simple, fresh flavors of local cuisine, this place is as close to that as I have treated in a long time. Everything is fresh. The salsa verde is perfect, just the right combo of heat from the jalapenos, garlic, lime. The roja is smooth, well balanced heat and roasted tomato and chili pepper flavor. If you want your food "American style" with the lettuce, tomato and cheese, then ask for it. The authentic style of fresh chopped onion and cilantro is like heaven. Seriously, if you want beans and cheese and salt, go to taco bell. La Cocina is a little taste of Mexico in Logandale and hands down, awesome food. The horchata is amazing too!

This is my favorite place to get a vegan burrito over any other Mexican restaurant, any veg restaurant period. I haven't found a place I liked this much since my favorite Mexican joint in college. First off; the staff is great. They are friendly and accommodating your needs as a vegan or vegetarian and I feel like I've gone in with them already knowing my order (even if the one man politely takes it anyway). Bad customer service or rude staff can completely ruin a restaurant (like Quesadilla La Reyna; it is the absolute worst!!!). I love a burrito that has the right proportions of all ingredients, and when the produce is fresh and crunchy (not mushy or mealy), and fresh and crunchy is exactly what you get there. Being a burrito-a-holic and not eating meat for many years either, I'm used to a vegetarian burrito simply not containing meat, so I'm not big on the fake meats on my burrito. I do love Upton's products and use them in other preparations, just not here. I always get a burrito with extra avocado, beans, rice, vegan cheese, lettuce, tomato, cilantro and onion. You do pay for vegan cheese and extra avocado, so maybe if you do take out, just add your own extra avocado or vegan cheese if you're set on not paying extra for this. Regardless, I gladly pay a little extra to get everything I want on a perfectly rolled, deliciously fresh burrito. I'm usually a green salsa advocate, but for some reason I really love their red salsa. I might be a little frivolous with 5 stars, but I literally won't go anywhere else for a burrito. I just wish they were open on Sundays too!
(5)
Jenn G.
La Cocina is a totally solid local Mexican joint. My veggie burrito was massive, delicious and cheap - the three most important qualities for any Mexican joint! If La Cocina were closer to me, I'd make this my go-to quickie burrito place. Hands down would choose a La Cocina burrito over Chipotle or any of the other big chains any day. On it's own, however, it wasn't an earth-shatteringly brilliant culinary experience. Highly recommended for a really good, yummy burrito, but it was want anything more out of your dining experience, probably look elsewhere.

Best burritos around super friendly service. The Salsa Verde is the best I've had anywhere.

LOVE this place. $1 taco Tuesday, you can't go wrong. Friendly staff. Great food. Highly recommend the seitan chorizo. We used them to cater a wedding party and they were outstanding. They arrived early and had all of our food set up ready for hungry people. No delivery fee, everything was flat rate and extremely affordable. They even threw in some freebies as a congrats for our Bride and Groom.

Tara J.
HOLY SH*T! My socks have been knocked clean off by La Cocina's vegan tacos. I tried all three kinds - fake chicken, fake beef and fake chorizo, and their deliciousness was in that order. They are also cheap - $2.25 per vegan taco. If I lived in Chi-town, I would soon not fit through the front door due to taco overload. YUM YUM YUM! Thank you to La Cocina for thinking of us veggeis!
(5)
Tara B.
YES PLEASE. I got a little lost trying to find it (what can I say, I'm from California), but when I did, holy heaven. I was famished from my run, and had the entire place to myself at 9 pm on a Monday. My burrito was made really quickly, and for being a "regular" burrito, it was huge. I was easily able to add chicken seitan and avocado (they're really vegan friendly - 3 mock meats and vegan cheese). It was just what the doctor ordered.
(4)
Manhoso C.
We gave this place two chances, and wont do a third. Both times was for carryout, both times the order was wrong. Everything is wrapped in foil and in one bag, so checking each item isnt really practical. Also, the meat was way too salty both times, I felt i needed a 32 oz water just to make sure my body wouldn't shrivel up. Not too sure what peoples latin food experiences are, but theres better in this area. Sorry

it's pretty tight to be able to get vegan tacos without sacrificing the authenticity of real tacos. very stoked.

Yum! What a great place. One of the things I like best is that you can bring anyone to eat here. Those with restricted diets can find vegan options, like a variety of seitan, and of course gluten-free dieters know that tacos are an easy option (uh, if they don't order the seitan!). Usually the kind of place that sells seitan is the kind of place where you pay a little more for your food, but the price points at La Cocina are consistent for this area. Of course it doesn't hurt that the tacos are really delicious. Sure, there's nothing ground-breaking here, but it's definitely tacos done right. The rotating Tuesday taco special is fun, and they carry a variety of Jaritos, which I think is a must for a Mexican restaurant. I really like the al pastor and the chorizo tacos (real meat versions). I can't speak to any of the other menu items because I never get them, but the burritos seem to be popular. I usually get take-out and it has always been fast and accurate. Hooray for this great place that is conveniently located on my route home from work!

I'm sure there are other good things on the menu, but I have yet to move beyond the tacos. Not sure where these guys get their meat, but it always tastes fresh and is perfectly cooked and seasoned. Steak, al pastor, carnitas, potato-chorizo, chicken. All very good. Evey Tuesday they offer a different taco for just $1. There is never a wait for food and the staff is beyond friendly.
(5)

Awesome local taco joint. I loved their guac and chips, and for only $5 it's a steal. Everything was really fresh and tasty, the service was friendly and quick, and the restaurant was clean and bright. I'll be back!

A great place for vegans. A separate seitan menu with three kinds of Upton's (chicken-style, regular style, and chorizo). They have vegan cheese as well, but no vegan sour cream (yet?). Staff is super friendly. Dining area is spacious and spotless. And all this at a good price with chips and two kinds of salsa.

So, I once spent a large amount of time in Austin, TX and fell in love with flautas. I don't know how or why it happened but every place I went after leaving Austin, I looked for flautas. I tried everywhere.. and I found some good places, but most of them where way far south and I am super lazy. Then La Cocina announced that Thursdays are ONE DOLLAR flautas night. I was super excited. YOu get two flautas for one dollar, covered in lettuce a little sour cream and a tomato, like a flauta salad. The filling could be more substantial, but one dollar for two flautas, I couldn't complain. They are made to order, hot and fried to perfection. I anticipate becoming very fat. All in all I can't help but continue to rave about La Cocina, and get their Al Pastor taco, it is THE best taco on the menu.

I am a huge taqueria fan, but this place just didn't really do it for me. The price is right, the inside was decent (although I took it to go), they prepared the order very fast, and again, it was cheap. BUT The pastor was REALLY spicy. I like spicy food quite a bit, it wasn't too hot to eat by any means, but it was much spicier than any other pastor I've experienced. The quesadilla was so thin it only had one side, I'm not joking. Beans and rice were good, but really how hard is that. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but it's Mexican food. If you can't do simple items correctly, that's a huge problem. Also, the fact that they are willing to dilute good Mexican food with Vegan stuff is just terrible. Veggie burritos n stuff, sure, but seitan tacos? They should be ashamed. I'm not saying I will never return, just saying that for the area, it's not my first choice.

This restaurant is awesome. They are really nice and the food is always really great. Definitely would recommend as the prices are reasonable as well. Plus they have Wi-Fi so it's a great place to chill.

I get so tired of Mexican food for vegetarians being iceburg lettuce, tomato and some tired old beans wrapped into a burrito. Seriously? That's not Mexican food. The staff here was super friendly and suggested trying the seitan (which I'd seen advertised outside, but wasn't written on the chalkboard menu). I got the chorizo style, which was definitely on the spicy side, but delicious. I appreciate a place that doesn't treat vegetarians/vegans like freaks, but gives us actual good food options without pandering and Americanizing the crap out of the food. The horchata was delicious, too. Will definitely go back.

Taco Tuesdays have become a tradition. Chorizo and potato is where it's at.

Walking distance from my apartment, lots of vegan options, super polite and fast service. The dudes working there were really helpful in assuring me that everything I ordered was vegan - you'd think this is a no brainer, but I can't count how many places I've been where the people who work there have no idea what's in the food they're serving me. Not the case at La Cocina, they know their stuff. I got a vegan chicken quesadilla and a side of rice and beans. Delicious! I will for sure be back to check out the rest of the menu. So grateful to have vegan mexican so close to home!

Right around the block from my house and I hope to god it survives. Stopped by for some takeout on a Friday night. I had a chicken burrito Mexican-style (with onions and cilantro) and added some cheese. The hubs had steak tacos. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Chicken was white meat chicken breast - yay! Like another reviewer mentioned, things are a little over-salted but still taste pretty durn good.

I gotta say I'M DIGGIN' IT! This is the neighborhood I live in and this is the only Mexican restaurant nearby me--a few blocks within walking distance. I already know I'm going here every Tuesday for the $1 taco. But if not then, the tacos are just $1.79. The people who work there are really nice, and their steak tacos are very pleasing. Not the greatest I've had in the city (a little too much onion), but still very good. I like also how they give you the option of a Mexican or American steak taco. Mexican has cilantro and onion, American with lettuce and tomato. Go for the Mexican! More authentic and better tasting. I myself had the cheese and sour cream added too. Overall it cost me $5.05 for two Mexican steak tacos with the cheese & sour cream, and a veggie taco that's not listed. If you're in the area, check it out. If you live in the area, become a regular and make sure it sticks around!

I seriously hate giving bad reviews, but my God. Call me a glutton for punishment but I've given this place five chances (It's on the corner by my house) The food...simply AIGHT ----as Mexican food goes. But, I'm actually astonished to see the same two young guys working there as they are THE SLOWEST kitchen guys I've EVER seen. Every time I've waited almost a half an hour for two quesadillas??? They won't even take someone's order until they're finished MAKING someone else's order. Really? My stomach starts eating itself as I watch three or four other miserable souls waiting before me. No joke you could probably walk to JJ peppers, buy a hot dog and a paper, eat it and read it, walk back ....and wait. On top of all this great service, the prices are simply put...ridiculous. Unless you're there for that $1 flauta or taco day which is garbage anyway, what they're charging is insane. Two (SMALL!) steak quesadillas an EXTRA small rice and an Horchata...$12 Whaaaa? I think next time they'll stick a flower in it and call it gourmet. I'm sticking with Burrito house on Addison/Kedzie. Seriously the best fish tacos, super fresh, super fast and awesome portions, for a lot less $. :(

This place is great! I've only eaten inside twice but I order for pick up all the time. I love the steak tacos Mexican style, and the steak burrito mexican style. The steak is super tender, well flavored and cooked perfectly. The steak has never been fatty either which is awesome. My girlfriend always orders the chicken seitan tacos or burrito. I've tried the seitan and it's really good as well. Cocina is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the city.

The seitan 'meat' option is fantastic and this place is pretty much the only enjoyable part of my neighborhood. The service is always very friendly and I have never had a problem with my order. I can only speak on behalf of the veg-friendly options but everything I have had has been great. Nothing ground breaking, just real good food.

After reading all the awesome reviews about La Cocina I decided to give 'em a try. I went in thinking I'd just try their carne asada tacos, but I immediately noticed sopes listed on their menu. Sopes are something you don't normally see made in restaurants here in the US, they're what you see made at home deep in Mexico. They're something my mother always made, and they're my favorite, so I went with them. While they weren't bad, they weren't anything I would order again. My biggest gripe was with the carne asada; it was slightly flavorless and sort of tough. Maybe it's because they cut their meat in larger pieces than the normal chopped asada I'm used to. I'm sure I'll eventually give 'em another-go, but I probably shouldn't expect Mexican food in Logan Square to taste anything close to my mum's.

Great food , great prices, good people. Very friendly and attentive. I had chorizo and potato taco and a chicken tostada. Their pico de gallo is also very good. I see is going back to taste next weeks special

Very friendly over the phone, but the food was mediocre. We initially placed an order with them because it was Tuesday and they have $1 tacos on Tuesday. What wasn't apparent was that it was only for a specific taco, chicken fajita. So we ended up paying the normal price for the tacos we wanted. The salsa was flat and soupy and did not have a salsa taste. The guacamole was loaded with tomatoes and very bland. For lack of a better description, it also seemed too creamy. The steak was dry. The chorizo and pork were ok, but just that. Overall, it was *meh*, but I don't see myself ever ordering from them again. There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants in the area that at least do something well.

Bang for your buck and with some quality too. I love their Al Pastor tacos and chorizo burrito. They have a moderate selection but they do a good job with their food. The restaurant is small but that's fine. It's a nice taco joint that doesn't posture, and they have an attentive staff that are friendly as well. I ordered their pico de gallo to go with my chips and food. Holy crap their pico de gallo was fresh and delicious. I've been to tons of Mexican restaurants and had plenty of pico de gallo in all my years, but that's jaw droppingly good pico de gallo. All in all, this place is definitely worth a shot if you're aching for Mexican food. Plus you can never go wrong $1.00 tacos on Taco Tuesdays.

The $1 taco special was chicken tacos when we went, not particularly flavorful but hey, they were $1 tacos. Also had a pork sope and that was pretty freakin delish. Really tasty seasoning and the shell was perfect. When ordering you can choose American Style (lettuce & tomato) or Mexican Style (onion & cilantro). Personally I recommend Mexican style but only if you can handle LOTS of raw onion. Plenty of veg options but all the fake meat is seitan - no prob for me but some people that might be an issue. I didn't try it this time but looking forward to checking it out. There's vegan cheese too, not sure what kind. Chips and salsa brought to our table, four tacos and a sope all for $7.49. You can't beat that. Cheap food! Good service! What's not to like.

THIS PLACE IS TOOOO GOOOODD!! i come here like once a week, and get either the taco dinner or a burrito and its always so amazing. there meat is always the best and the ingredients always fresh. the service is usually really great as well, i did have one bad experience though. they messed up my order, when i called they made me walk back there and werent even sorry. they kept laughing about it which was a little irritating. they on an other occasion apologized profusely and had someone drive my correct order to my house for me(thank you!) so it really just depends! BUT YOU SHOULD TRY THIS PLACE.

I was really excited about this place, but overall it was a little disappointing. I was very pumped to try this place out because of all their vegetarian and vegan options, but the soy chorizo that I ordered was kind of tasteless and sad. Maybe I have too high of expectations for fake meat. My boy got a burrito dinner that he seemed very pleased with, and the chips and salsa were nice too. I'll probably be back to try some other options, I'm not giving up on La Cocina yet.

It was amazing we've been here a couple of times and each time it was amazing. The service is great and the prices are decent. On Tuesdays they have $1 taco and on Thursdays they have $1 flautas and they are amazing plain and simple. Their dinners are amazing too great deal for the amount of food you get in the container. The salsas and guacamole are great too with homemade fresh tortilla chips. One of the salsas is spicy and the other is smokey and they're so good and the guacamole is seasoned perfectly. Definetly a place to stop in!!!!

Great food, great service, friendly staff. My husband and I tried the tacos and torta while my daughter ate a huge quesadilla and loved it. Highly recommend the daily special.

This place totally rules. The chicken seitan burrito is awesome... and HUGE. Seriously. We get them to go often and carrying the bag home it probably weighs 10lbs. I don't know why it took me so long to check this place out. So many great vegan options. Oh, and the gaucamole is AMAZING. It's super fresh and full of cilantro and onions. I totally love this place.

I've gotta limit this review to their burritos and their service, but that said, this place is great. Burritos are so big, every time I bring one home and open it up, I think there is no way I can finish this monster, but I do, they are really that good. As to the service, my finicky daughter asked for a rice and bean burrito, the only ingredients she likes. When we came to pick it up, there was no charge, it's not on their menu, so they just whipped one up, just for her, for free. How nice is that!

Incredible nachos!!!! landed here by accident one night, great service, fresh food, quirky decor. Love it. Super affordable.

YES YES YES! I love this place! The only downfall is they aren't open on sundays. From Tostadas, to taco salads, to Tortas they have a daily deal every single day! I can't stop eating here I'm addicted, but in a good way. For vegans and vegetarians they have an excellent vegan menu and some of the best seitan on this side of 90/94. Keep it up guys you feed me well!

I had a terrible experience at La Cocina, but after reading the other reviews, that doesn't seem uncommon for take out or vegan orders. My negative experience was mostly thanks to an extremely rude woman named Joanna. I ordered 6 vegan sopes to go, but when I got home, I realized that I had been given meat tacos. Now, I can totally see the confusion: vegan sopes, meat tacos, basically the same thing. Whatever, no big deal. I went back, as I live relatively close, and explained the error. Joanna, the woman who took my first order, was rude, curt, and seemed exceptionally annoyed, but finally offered to give me my damn sopes. When I gave her my order once again, I began to tell her I wanted it vegan, no dairy or cheese, but she cut me off and claimed that she was vegan, too, and understood. I doubt it, but that's fine, I smiled and thanked her. When I got my order, I realized that there was non-vegan cheese and sour cream on my sopes. I brought this to Joanna's attention, who told me that it was my fault for not telling her to give me vegan cheese and no sour cream specifically, despite the fact that I asked for non-dairy VEGAN sopes multiple times, which makes it pretty clear that there shouldn't be DAIRY on them, but she just began to yell at me and arguing that she would not fix it. She ranted about how I need to order correctly next time, as though I would ever give La Cochina my business again. Honestly, it's one thing to get an order wrong twice, it's one thing to refuse to fix it, but to yell at me on top of it? I used to frequent La Cochina. Never again.

Great food for cheap, free chips and salsa, and VEGAN TACOS. Nothin' else to say.

Phony meat Mexican food is apparently a weakness of mine. And while El Faro of the south side holds my heart, La Cocina of Logan Square has certainly dug out a home for itself in at least one ventricle. Uptons Naturals seitan everything + the friendliest service ever and a sunshiny corner-store locale make this one heck of a lunch dive. Aaand they've got one of my fave casual features that a lot of counter service places forget about: self serve agua w/ cups- because sometimes, this gringa gets a little thirsty. Ooh, and it's BYOB. Schwing!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Plenty of vegan options; basically anything can be turned into a vegan dish with an easy mention of the word. Prices are great, service was friendly. Cozy, comfortable counter service.
(4)Nancy C.
The food is really solid. Prices are reasonable given quantity and location. Sadly, they only get the order correct about 50% of the time. Something as simple as no beans, only rice on the side. Not too difficult. But frequently wrong. Oh well...
(4)Phil P.
These quesadillas Francine, these quesadillas! (American Dad reference) Seriously, this place is amazing! They have a huge vegetarian selection to go along with it's traditional meat one and both are incredibly delicious. The best was the chicken seitan grande quesadilla.
(5)Reagan W.
Service here is great and tacos are delicious! They always have great deals and priced very well!:)
(5)Freddie L.
(3)Linda A.
I really wanted to like this place, walking distance from my house wanted to make this place my taco place, but 2 orders gone wrong and plastic wrapping on my rice is not so yummy after all
(2)Oly G.

(5)Denise L.
(4)Eryn Y.
Pretty much the best chorizo tacos I have ever eaten. Salsa is just this side of too spicy (which is my FAVORITE KIND, not a complaint!) and it's BYO which makes it even better. Delicious all around.
(4)Fernando R.
I finally tried this place and I must say delish! I'm not a huge burrito person even though I'm a big boy, well let me tell you I loved it! Going back to try their tortas and tacos!
(5)Marisa W.
Great tacos! The beans are really delicious too. No pico, but they had a nice tomatillo salsa. I will be back!
(4)Matt A.
(4)amanda t.
(4)Cathy O.
(5)Laura C.
perfect for vegetarians and vegans, even my meat eating friends love their food :)
(5)Ruben M.
(4)julie ann p.
(4)Nik A.
(4)Mary B.
best burrito i ever had...sorry chipotle. these guys have authentic mexican food and it tastes great, and its affordable. they have several specials during the week...service is fast...which is of the utmost importance when you are running your ass off for fedex...
(5)Alec B.
The al pastor is fantastically spicy, and the guys behind the counter are awesome. This place may not look like much, but trust me its probably the best taco counter in Logan Square.
(5)DS M.

(4)Matthew S.
Worthy of the elusive burrito encore.
(5)Raq C.
Effin delicious! Just around the corner from my apartment and consistently delicious mexican food-especially for the mid-west. Owners are super cool and friendly...AND they play the best tele-novelas this side of the mississippi.
(5)Nora W.
Food was really good & the price is right. My favorite thing about this place is the service. They are so friendly and do a great job. I hope this place does better than the last 3 places that opened in this location.
(4)Nana H.
I stopped in today because i saw the sign on the window, and was slightly hungry. $1 Barbacao taco, and a Chicken tostada, for like 3.50, it was just enough! I probably wont be coming over here JUST for the tacos, but i wouldn't count it out in the future. They were yummy
(4)Robert H.
I got a chicken taco, a barbacoa burrito, chips and guac and salsa. The counter service was great, and the food was alright... I bit into a huge pocket of fat in the burrito, but the taco and rice were super awesome! Salsa is super salty, but good.
(3)Jet H.
Place is clean but the food is bland and not impressive at all. I had barbacoa tacos and couldn't taste any sort of seasoning. Next I tried a simple bean and cheese burrito = bleh! I'll give it another shot in a couple months because it's so close to my apartment.
(2)Anemone T.
they have upton's seitan!
(4)Claudia M.
(4)nellie l.
(5)joanne y.
the food here is still amazing but dining in is not so great because they don't have any AC and the sun shines too brightly into the restaurant. if the place is too hot, i just take the food to go.
(4)allie w.
Vegan options (seitan burritos!), pita tacos, and dollar taco tuesdays? This place is phenomenal.
(5)Jill A.
(5)Kate G.
(5)Bev V.
This place is awesome!! Great prices and friendly service.
(5)Kayleen D.
Great Mexican food! Always fresh and tastes authentic! This is definitely my go to Mexican joint and I highly recommend the carne asada burrito!
(5)Jason T.
(1)Greg G.
Solid
(5)Regina C.
I have eaten almost everything off the vegan menu. It is great. I love this place. They are always friendly, fast, and wonderful. I am so happy to have an amazing and friendly place to eat with plentiful vegan options. This is one of my favorite places to eat in the city, hands down.
(5)Neal P.
(3)Aaron T.

(4)Andrew S.

(4)Ray V.
(4)Melissa E.
Love that this place is only a block away from me. Definitely a great place for a good burrito or torta! I eat here way too much.
(5)Aly A.
(1)Beth M.
(4)Andrew K.
Great spot and great value.
(5)Amie C.
(4)Brian G.
Best not meat-meat tacos on the north side. Everyone is also very friendly and they do a great job of explaining everything on the menu. Usually not too busy and 1 dollar tacos on tuesday! What?! Ya gotta go
(5)Mike L.
Great food and great atmosphere. Nice people and flavorful food.
(4)Nik Z.
(5)Charlie R.
Four stars for having the best Mexican food in the Logan Square area.
(4)Kelly W.
(5)Jenn G.
(3)Jake L.
Best burritos around super friendly service. The Salsa Verde is the best I've had anywhere.
(5)Amy B.
(5)Tara J.
(5)Tara B.
(4)Manhoso C.
Sorry
(2)Daniel R.
it's pretty tight to be able to get vegan tacos without sacrificing the authenticity of real tacos. very stoked.
(5)Melissa S.
(5)Gerard J.
Really great all around at an all around really great price!!
(5)ryan w.
(5)Jamie P.
Awesome local taco joint. I loved their guac and chips, and for only $5 it's a steal. Everything was really fresh and tasty, the service was friendly and quick, and the restaurant was clean and bright. I'll be back!
(4)Egan V.
(5)Sean W.
the best there ever was

(5)Mandi G.
Clean, cheap and friendly. One dollar taco Tuesdays. Go, Yelp amigos!
(4)Adam S.
(2)Jenna H.
Great option for vegetarians and vegans craving Mexican food - love their seitan tacos. Boyfriend says the meat stuff is good too. Don't miss $1 taco Tuesdays!
(4)Imabrowngirl B.
awesome vegan meats!!!! wow!!!!
(5)John J.
Mediocre tacos, better tostadas, ok burritos. They use just a little bit too much salt. Go to L'Patron instead.
(2)Bethany M.
This restaurant is awesome. They are really nice and the food is always really great. Definitely would recommend as the prices are reasonable as well. Plus they have Wi-Fi so it's a great place to chill.
(5)Abbey H.
(4)Lauren G.
Taco Tuesdays have become a tradition. Chorizo and potato is where it's at.
(5)Kandiss P.
(5)Bess R.
(4)Shelden E.

(1)Jonathan T.
(4)D R.
(5)Ly R.
(2)D.A A.
Great food , great prices, good people. Very friendly and attentive. I had chorizo and potato taco and a chicken tostada. Their pico de gallo is also very good. I see is going back to taste next weeks special
(5)Jacob M.
(3)Ivan F.
(4)Nicole W.
(4)Simone S.
(4)Paige W.
(3)Angelica A.
(5)Ana V.
Great food, great service, friendly staff. My husband and I tried the tacos and torta while my daughter ate a huge quesadilla and loved it. Highly recommend the daily special.
(5)leslie p.
(5)Bill K.
(5)Thomas C.
Incredible nachos!!!! landed here by accident one night, great service, fresh food, quirky decor. Love it. Super affordable.
(5)Fred J.
(5)Kyle P.
I want their pork grande burrito in and around my mouth RIGHT NOW
(4)Yahaira D.
This place is such a great neighborhood restaurant. The staff is so friendly and the food is AMAZING!!!! My daughter and I eat here several times a month and it never disappoints.
(5)Roxanne P.
Very affordable and tasty tacos!
(4)Susanna A.
(1)Erica J.
Great food for cheap, free chips and salsa, and VEGAN TACOS. Nothin' else to say.
(5)Candice G.
Schwing!
