Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

My coworkers and I volunteered at the food depository so we stopped by here for lunch. We had a part of four and were able to find a table even though the restaurant was pretty busy. Chips and salsa were given to us as soon as we sat down and the salsa was tasty. We each ordered burritos and horchata as well as guacamole for the table to share. I had the al pastor burrito and it was great. I finished the entire burrito and enjoyed the seasoning on the meat. However, the guacamole was kind of average. I was hoping for a little more flavor. We asked for a little extra lime to add to our guac, and they were very kind and brought us a whole plate of sliced limes. Service was great and quick. Food was tasty. I probably wouldn't come out of the way for it, but if you're in the neighborhood it's affordable and yummy. They also have a parking lot.

Love this place. Always a good meal. Easy to drive right by it but if you're looking for a good Mexican meal, I'd stop.

A go to restaurant. Affordable, excellent menu, polite staff, cooler drinks and spacious seating area. First time I ate there the salsa blew my mind, subsequent trips have not been so impressive. Yet, with four stars they're still hanging in there!

My husband and I decided to give this place a try on a Sunday afternoon and have been going back for their tacos de pastor and carnitas. The pastor tacos are served with small pieces of pineapple. I find that this gives it a distinct flavor and is very similar to what you will find in Mexico. Not alot of places serve them like this. The carnitas are fresh and are only served on the weekends. When you arrive they greet you with chips and three different kinds of salsas. All are very good so I find myself adding all three to different sections of my tacos. The sopes de asada and tacos de chicharron are good as well. We tend to order the same things over and over. I had ordered their pozole once and I was highly disappointed with it. The meat was shredded and the broth was very thick. This taqueria is pretty small but we always seem to find a seat. They have alot of pick-up orders from what I have noticed. The waitresses are very attentive and they make you feel right at home.

La Cebollita is the perfect "hole in the wall" mexican restaurant. The food is so delicious. I have never had a better tasting gordita than the ones from La Cebollita. In fact, I'd recommend anything from their menu. My co-workers and I order delivery from here almost weekly. The service is always quick and friendly. They have a small lot for parking, or you could park on a neighborhood street since there isn't permit parking there.

Here's the deal. MUY RICO!!! The burritos come with everything on them- including avocado. So tasty. Chicken was excellent. Best part besides the huge burritos, they deliver and in record time too. They were here with the food within 15 minutes of my call. Fantastic! I think I am going to be a regular.

This place is the spot for authentic Mexican cuisine. Tacos are unrivaled and the Burritos will make you wet your pants. You feel like you're in Tijuana when you enter this small restaurant. Quietly nestled on 47th a few blocks west of Pulaski, LaCebolita hits all the right buttons. Staff is nice and friendly and the food is quite fresh and good. Verdict: 4 stars.

Awesome place for some real authentic Mexican food. Highly recommend! Good parking area, clean place takes cards and has tasty chips and salsa. I would say if you are looking for a place to grab some food in the airport area and are looking for cheap but awesome place. Go for it.

Good asada and chorizo tacos. Had to try the Cebollitas and they did not disappoint. Nicely seasoned best Cebollitas.

The pozole is outstanding! Guacamole is pretty good too. Next time I'd like to try their tamales.

I used to work across the street and always went there for lunch. I believe the steak tacos are the best I ever had! Never got a piece of chewy fat in my steak taco either . The waitresses always speak to me in Spanish but I'm white lol. Great little place with quality food.

I get my usual tamales here, salsa verde pollo!!! (: yummy! I have also tried their bistec and it is soooo good like on a scale of 1-10 it's a 10 ! Okay now I love Mexican rice I kid you not every place I've gone to so far their rice is bland or just plain out WHATEVER but this rice is so utterly delicious. Whatever they do I hope they never change I love this place.

Damn, now I need to find more reasons to head out to Midway Airport where this place is located. As I expected, it's located in a fairly non-descript commercial area of Cicero and easy to pass up if you're not looking for it. Interior has brown porcelain tile floor with 5 booths, three tables and some stools along the "bar." Table clothes are in either torquois or orange. Bar/kitchen/cashier looks like a little hut and has a fridge for drinks along the far wall. Pretty no frills, but it was clean. Sat down and was served a basket of excellent chips and awesome salsa. I've always been a fan of a little heat along with the salsa being thick. This is the first place where I found what I believe is the perfect salsa - awesome balance of tomatoes, peppers, onions and cilantro. Then came my burrito - chicken and added guacamole - and it was served cut in half. Nice serving size where it wasn't a football and well layered with slightly smokey and marinated chicken, chihuahua cheese, lettuce and the guacamole. It was awesome. First time I didn't miss a Chipotle burrito. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

The steak tacos were good but the chips were horrible... The salsa tried saving the chips but couldn't. Maybe earlier during the day they're better. The prices for tacos were kinda pricey too.

First time here. Had tamales filled with queso and rajas. Those were very good. Horchata was ok. The plate I ordered however was another story Ordered the tampiquena. The enchilada that came with it was tiny and shriveled. It was a mini tortilla with minimal cheese. The worst part of the plate was the meat. The steak was super fatty, like it had not been prepped or cleaned of all the fat and you had to chew it 100 times before you could get it to a consistency to swallow it. I ate half of it and have up. Crappy quality meat. Lastly, I would have ignored this considering there are other food items that may make up for the crappy tampiquena... But the service by the waitress/cashier/order taker was slow, rushed, and poor. Not her fault, I know, but the business owner needs to reconsider a few things to gain regulars at this location.

This place is our go to Mexican spot at work. The tacos and burritos are pretty good. Have had the pork and steak and they're always fresh and tasty. The enchiladas verdes are also very good, the meat is flavorful and not dry. And the green salsa is tasty with the perfect kick, not too hot. Another thing that may not be a big deal to most, but is to me is their rice and beans are always fresh. Never dried out or crusty. Any Mexican food enthusiast knows what I'm talking about, yuck! Their service is courteous and efficient and the prices are very reasonable, you can have a solid meal for under 10 bucks. If you want good, fast, and affordable Mexican fare that's better than average. La Cebollita on 47th definitely fits the bill.

Best Tamales ever! Placing an order today for Holiday. Mexican Breakfast choices are all delicious. Staff is very friendly.

I can completely agree with Brian, I have also eaten here dozens of times and have had very few negative experiences. On the weekends the Carnitas are whole pig, which is to say if you get there early you can pick the best parts, I enjoy the shoulder, ribs and some loin. The Carnitas are a bargain and an easy picnic choice. Another thing that sets them apart from the norm are the Tamales, red, green and sweet, always fresh and plentifull on the weekends, they tend to run out on the weekdays, very rich and tender, and super cheap. Brian said the restaurant had a comfort food quality to it and I will agree 100%, a wonderful lady usually seen on the weekends prepping or working the counter is the owners sister, she has developed the signature recipes and is one of the friendliest hosts in Chicago, the only problem is she isn't there enough. On several occasions she has brought me free samples of Chicken Croquettas, (a fried fritter like concoction) Empanadas, (the best I have ever had), and her version of Ensalata de Nopales, (cactus salad) this is another of the weekend specials. This version of the salad features Extra virgin olive oil , aged cheese, and a lot of love. Other highlites include tacos pastor and the steak milanesa. Service can be a bit stoic and impersonal, but has never prevented me from enjoying the food. Why only 4 stars? Because of the high quality of some of the dishes, some less popular dishes tend to suffer, Burritos are average, enchiladas lack the balance of my favorites, and if you are craving a Tamale on a weekday, you should go elsewhere. Also I have noticed, even though I am a regular of 3 years, as a gringo I will have to request hot sauce for the table, the Hispanic population gets it automatically, doesn't anger me, I actually find it humorous. As far as the drinks go, BYOB, the Horchata is very well balanced and the Agua Frescas (fruity drinks) are consistently good. So come in on a Saturday for lunch, order a Carnitas plate, a Tamal, and enter the wonderful world of pig, FYI when you order the Carnitas they may ask if you want Pig only? This means meat only, if you want the full experience say "con chicharon" with skin baby, crispy and fatty a perfect complement to the tender slow cooked pork. Get a side of Avocado, they will give a whole Avocado for .75, and you will have a fantastic meal for less than a Wicker Park Martini. Also good for catering.
