My new favorite coffee shop. What you need to know: -2 hour wifi with purchase and it's fast -friendly staff -food food. As in, sandwiches and soups -best iced chai ever. Ever. Also, the architecture of the building is beautiful. I always forget to look up and am always pleasantly surprised when I remember there's a huge skylight in the ceiling.

Definitely your hole-in-the-wall coffee shop. If I didn't already read up on this place on yelp, I probably wouldn't have thought to come in when I walked by. I ordered the Larry and my boyfriend ordered the Peggy. We ordered to-go so I didn't get a feel of the atmosphere there. There were a few people studying and two people working, and it's a small place, so I can't imagine what this place is like when it's crowded. Apart from that, my sandwich was good. Nothing to rave about but I enjoyed it. My boyfriend felt the same. I'll probably try this place again and get one of their specialty drinks.

i could not resist the tempting sound of brea fig jam & peanutButter all rolled into a turkey bacon sandwich... & toasted to perfection ... well it 's not an In and Out Dbl~Dbl but the blend of flavors is good, and less than$8-9 w/0 soft drink, the staff is not all smiles as others have mentioned but atmosphere I found Comfortable just a few Blks. from beach/ Pk check my other Yelp for that rview

I gave this coffee shop three stars for a couple of reasons, but let's start with the good. I keep coming back because they have some of the best sandwiches in town. Seriously, amazing. Beyond coffee shop good. Their espresso is ok, it has a bit of an odd flavor to it, but not bad. Here are my two gripes: 1. Wifi has a 2 hour limit. I understand why people do this, but it's still off putting. I feel like most people who are there for over two hours end up buying something else anyway. 2. The staff. There has been one guy I've gotten along with so far. Everyone else looks at me like I knocked over the sugar on purpose (metaphorically, I didn't knock over any sugar). I've never seen so much service with so few smiles. I watched one woman serve customer after customer without cracking a smile once. Honestly, I know it's not the most important thing in a coffee joint, but it's got a neighborhood coffee vibe, so I was expecting vibrant employees who really liked being there. Instead, I end up feeling like an inconvenience and an means to their paycheck. If you grab a sandwich and coffee to go, maybe you won't mind. Personally, I found it off-putting. It's near my house and like I said, AMAZING sandwiches, but otherwise I wouldn't continue to go.

This is a nice coffee shop to have on the block, but its general apathy makes it a hard place to frequent. The lackadaisical atmosphere isn't enough to deter patrons when it is so conveniently beneath an el stop, but I sure hope the people who run this place learn the value of a simple smile, because "welcoming" is never a word I'd use to describe the joint.

Jeff the owner, should not be in this line of business. You walk in, no hello, smiles and certainly not a "thank you" in sight. He acts like you should be grateful that someone even waited on you. He is the most unfriendly business owner that I know. I haven't been in there for a very long time and have no intention of going back. He knows nothing about customer service and has such a poor disposition! Chicago Grind is a great coffee shop and their coffee is 10 times better!!! If they ever get a new owner I may reconsider coming back, but as long as he is there. NEVER!!!

Had the iced chai and it was disgusting. Felt like coughing every time I took a sip because it was overloaded with spices. The staff is extremely unfriendly and gave me a quick glance without even greeting me when I walked in. Seriously, if you're looking for a warm welcoming environment to study or relax in, avoid Kitchen Sink at all costs. You're better off going to Dunkin Donuts instead. But if you're looking for a pretentious hipstery coffee shop atmosphere, this is the place for you!

The Kitchen Sink was across the street! Staying with my friends close by - I visited the Kitchen Sink. I was hurting for some breakfast and coffee after a night full of New Years Eve shenanigans. This place delivered. Ordered a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on an Onion Bagel with a large cup of coffee. The food was excellent. The coffee was excellent. What more can one ask? I would recommend :-)

Meeeeehhhhhhhh. Here's the skinny: Bitter coffee. Free wifi but you have to get a password from the barista and it expires after a fairly short period of time. Kinda dirty. I don't like.

Great place- convenient and close to the train. The staff is very friendly and the food and drinks are made well. My only very specific problems are that the straws they use are very flimsy and the way they wrap sandwiches when you ask to-go is very hard to unwrap and deal with while commuting!

I stopped by kitchen sink to grab some coffee and lunch. I had an iced Americano and a sandwich with the cold chili soup. The soup was full of fresh flavors and herbs. I imagine the other soups would follow suit. The sandwhich seemed a bit dry to me but was still pretty tasty. Overall kitchen sink was a nice place to stop by.

I had avoided going to the Kitchen Sink for a while, because it was out of the way and I heard that it was small. But when Kopi failed to produce wi-fi and the sterile environment of Ch'ava finally got to me, I decided to venture out into the world. I feel so at home! Pros: Lovely, friendly baristas. I'm not sure of her name, but the one with the razor sharp pink nails (Yeah, you heard me) is a especially delightful. Cozy, warm atmosphere Chill, indie decor that doesn't try too hard Rage face signs Vice magazine in the bookshelf Gender neutral bathroom Decent Nutella Mocha latte Decent sammies AMAZING soup- I had the chickpea curry. Is this homemade? It tastes homemade. And as friends and I noticed separately, sexy queer ladies flouncing about the place DJ Shadow/ Wax Tailor/ Triphop playlist that isn't so loud you can't hear yourself think Neutral: They serve Metropolis Their food menu is obviously very well thought out Apparently they do live events- awesome! Cons: You have to pay for a wi-fi code every 2 hours... and the wi-fi is terrible. It's been 5 minutes and I'm still waiting for Google Drive to pop up. Perhaps the owners should consider nixing the paid for wi-fi in favor of free? Since it isn't useable, that is. (This is a deal breaker for me : ( . Please, please fix the wi-fi so I can come back. You have everything else going for you, Kitchen Sink!)

After several bad experiences, i was moronic enough to come here again. Why? Because it was cold and I was too lazy to walk the extra 2 blocks to Chicago Grind. Same old saga here. People behind the counter incapable of smiling, saying hello, or thank you. 12oz latte was.ordered "extra hot." Didn't come that way. Asked if that size came with a single or double shot, she said double. I tasted mostly milk. There isn't really a compelling reason to come here.

First time here, Siri found it for me i was looking for a quick breakfast joint. This place was awesome. Quiet chill spot (at least at 10am on a Tuesday), friendly customer service. I ordered the trooper breakfast burrito. Perfect balance of sweet and salty. It's egg, cheddar, sausage AND waffle with a side of syrup. It was a great size. I dipped the waffle and sausage side, since I don't topically eat eggs and cheddar with syrup. They serve Metropolis coffee, not my favorite but still ok (just a coffee preference). I would def come again to try their great assortment of breakfast burritos. It's so chill...I don't wanna go

And the winner for the most unique chai goes to...(drum roll)...Kitchen Sink! I stopped in yesterday after hopping off the red line. The barista was super nice, energetic and friendly. He told me that their chai is on the spicy side and boy, he was right. I thoroughly enjoyed this peppery tongue tingler. It's definitely spicier than most of the too-sweet chai drinks I have had. They also offer almond milk and soy milk if you don't don't do dairy. The place is small, but has a very cool vibe. The exposed brick, the sunlight streaming in from the skylight, and the amazing floor to ceiling stained glass church window makes this place a really cozy nook.

They have almond milk! Great coffee and tea and friendly staff and delicious wraps. Some vegan options. Wish they had gluten free muffins and bread etc. For wifi you get an old school code at the register, good for 2 hours.

Love the vibe of this coffee shop! Staff has always been super friendly towards me and the coffee is great too!

It was OKAY-- guess it was what I ordered.. Just a simple grilled cheese and soup to ward off the chill of the day. The soup was tasty but wasn't great. The grilled cheese was parboiled - cheese wasn't melted when it came off the grill--you could still see the slices.. When I asked for it to be warmed up again - they put it in the microwave till it was melted to the point of inedibility. Needless to say I won't be revisiting.

I love stopping in Kitchen Sink before a long commute on the Red Line, but I feel like their pastry game has really fallen off in the past year or so. When they first opened, they were serving Lovely muffins and croissants, which went great with their delicious and well-served coffee and espresso. But at some point, they started either making their own or getting them from a different supplier, and the quality is highly variable. Today I got the last muffin, and it was at least two days old. I actually had to throw it out, not because it was stale (I would've eaten it anyway!) but because it was drenched in oil or butter (soaked quickly through the paper bag it was given to me in) and had very little flavor. I find the service is always pretty good here, so 4 stars, and the coffee and tea are fine, and the location can't be beat. But guys! Better food options please! It's such a drag!

I go to Kitchen Sink often because my girlfriend lives around the corner. I only go there for the convenience (which is definitely as good of a reason as most to go to a coffee shop). However, with Chicago Grind open now across the street, Kitchen Sink might be in trouble. I could write so much more, but the number one most consistent problem with this cafe is the staff. They are not friendly. The most friendly person who works there is lukewarm, at best. My context is, I work in food service and understand how truly exhausting, draining, frustrating, thankless etc it can be. But Kitchen Sink has the opportunity to be a really special place, because of it's size, uniqueness and location. It is not a chain. It is one of a kind, and the staff doesn't treat it like so. There are times when I could swear I am at a Dunkin Donuts with the service and sour faces I get.

  • Allisa L.

Very good indeed! I had the Clyde breakfast burrito and the Chi tea latte which both where amazing. I got sour cream the side extra for my burrito. The staff was very nice. Nice little hang out spot. I recommend this place for a coffee run, breakfast, or lunch :)

I'm new to the area, Uptown/Edgewater, so I was super happy to find a new regular coffee shop. Their food is good, the atmosphere is great, and there barista-man-ship is awesome! I get the almond rose water latte. Drinking an earl grey almond rose water latte right now. It's phenomenal!

Stumbled upon this place a couple of weekends ago, thanks to Yelp reviews for my neighborhood. This place is kind of hidden, just off of Broadway. I like it. Parking was easy and it wasn't super busy. I ordered an espresso drink that was supposed to taste like Nutella, but I was seriously disappointed. It had an OK flavor and I willingly drank the whole thing, but it definitely did not taste like Nutella. Maybe a hint of hazelnut? Meh, not really. I ordered my drink to "dine in" since I was with a friend who wanted to grab some food too, but my coffee came in a to-go cup, while his was served in a ceramic mug. Maybe they misheard me. It's not a big deal, but it was a little strange. My friend ordered a wrap of some kind (I can't remember), which he said was standard but nothing special. His drink was made with rosewater and amaretto. It smelled devine, but the flavor was also lacking in his beverage as well. Prices are pretty standard for local coffee joints in the city, but the drinks weren't that great. Maybe it was an off day. I would give them another shot, but they don't compare to Ipsento!

Latte was good, but not great. I think the milk was a little sour. Bacon/Egg/Cheese/Avocado on everything bagel was also good enough to statisfy my hunger, but nothing to write home about. Quick place. Won't disappoint you, but also won't knock your socks off. You can probably find a better option, but if you're in the area and in a rush, go for it.

I had a caramel latte and egg/avocado/cheese wrap and was unimpressed by both. Not only were they bland, but they were way too expensive for what they were. My husband ordered the Mayor (no coffee) and we were the only people in line. It took the 2 people on staff over 15 minutes to make the sandwich. Between the overpriced, average food and coffee, and slow staff, I will not be returning to the Kitchen Sink, or recommending it.

Cute little neighborhood coffee shop vibe. I love to walk over and get a coffee and the PRF. The people who work there are always sweet and pretty quick.

I must say I enjoy Kitchen sink :) I was pretty tough on them at first, but they have redeemed themselves. I've found that I like their lunch sandwiches much more than their breakfast foods. And they're coffee has always been spot on. Also, they sell these "Take a Hike Scones" (from another bakery I'm forgetting the name of right now) that are a fantastic, quick, and hearty breakfast.

The chai was good, not too sweet and spicy enough but the real treat was the breakfast burrito. I got the classic and it was soooo good. The right balance of filling and tortilla and a nice crispy grill on the outside made each bite a party in my mouth! I coudn't put it down and ended up finishing the burrito which left me pretty full. The seating area is too small for me to hang out all day there but to grab coffee and food, it's perfect! There's also a large round table in the front for a large party which is nice.

Some of the best breakfast wraps. Try the egg and ham and mushroom and onion and mustard Winston burrito with avocado and apricot or fig jam added to it. Sooooo good.

I recently made my first visit to Kitchen Sink and can safely say it will not be my last. It has the most personality of any coffee shop near my apartment, located a few blocks south off of Sheridan. The location is convenient not only for me, but for anyone who uses the CTA Red Line Berwyn stop, just a few steps away. The menu is more creative than most coffee shops, and breakfast is served all day. The staff was friendly and helpful. I'm looking forward to returning to explore more of their menu.

Found this place by my brother's apartment - nice cafe/coffee bar to check out in Edgewater not far from the Lake and next to the Red line on Berwyn. Had the Mayor - turkey, brie, bacon and fig jam. They usually put peanut butter, but requested it not on there. Mom and my brother had their grilled cheese. Nice place to grab a cup of coffee, check your email, maybe do some work. They also have tables in the back of the cafe to sit and list their specials on a blackboard as you walk in. Their usial menu - sandwiches and coffees are listed on the wall.

I have to give this gem 5 stars, it is walking distance from my house. I love their black forest coffee and when I'm in the mood for a good kick in the butt coffee I order a medium. They offer coffee shop food that I've ordered and have to say was good. Staff is friendly. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is good. Location is great.

Came in for an Iced Coffee and a Scone to fuel up for my day exploring my new home. I was greeted by friendly staff and got my order super fast. This place is pretty close to my apt, so I will be making frequent trips!

I went there today and picked up an Italian soda and a classic breakfast wrap. The wrap had egg, cheese, black beans, salsa and jalapeno with sour cream on the side. It was ok, nothing to write home about. It is a cute coffee place, cozy and inviting. They have other stuff to eat ( sandwiches, sweets, coffee).

  • Lisa Z.

Having just moved to the area, I was looking for a place where I could just pop in and get a wrap or sandwich easily without getting something greasy. This is def the place to do that. They have a wide selection of breakfast and lunch wraps and sandwiches. The only reason I gave it a four star is because it's a little pricey, but other than that, I love this place.

  • Rahshonda K.

Nutella Almond Milk Mocha what more can I say? AWESOME! For lunch Grilled Cheese with avocado on multigrain bread. TO DIE FOR! I have been walking pass this place for a while. What the heck was I thinking? A hidden gem for sure. The atmosphere is nice and laid back. I was able to get studying done it was not so loud like other shops are. This is definitely my new coffee hang out.

  • Allen B.

I like this place. It is casual and reasonable. The people are friendly, and the atmosphere is great. It is quiet. The music does not intrude, but is hip and enjoyable in the background. A great local coffee shop. The only reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the only seating options are at tables. There are no comfy armchairs ti sit in. I will definitely be back.

Kitchen Sink is one of my favorite places in the city. A great local cafe with good food and drink choices, including veggie-friendly options and creative new sandwiches. Good rotating artwork, great local events that the cafe hosts. They support the local community and are involved in the neighborhood. And, they are incredibly queer-friendly. My top choice for a good local place to meet a friend for coffee or relax in a welcoming atmosphere. Friendly baristas, too!

This cozy coffee shop is tucked away on Berwyn just east of the L stop. The coffee and tea selection is wonderful and the specialty sandwiches are delicious. This is a great neighborhood spot to study, hang out, or meet a friend. If you're doing hardcore work, you will need a new wifi password after two hours. You often have to ask for a receipt to get the log on credentials. They don't seem to offer it up automatically. But i love supporting locally owned places and this is as down to earth as it gets. Another plus is they support local artists by handing up their for-sale artwork. My friend sarah O'Farrell's pieces are currently on display!

Tattooed baristas? Check. People on Macs? Check. Couples in PJs? Check. Coffee, sandwiches, hot lunch and breakfast? Check! Kitchen Sink does have it all. Great cup of coffee, and when they open/close an hour early/later for construction workers, everyone wins. Rumors abound they have awesome breakfast sandwiches. Judging by their veggie sandwich, I'm not surprised. I was a little disappointed no soup today, but the mac n' cheese was just as satisfying, albeit a little greasy. Really though, I think the biggest testament to the hipness of this place is there are always people just chilling. And, it's really warm in there. El stop: Berwyn Red Line

3.5 stars for this location. After lunch, my boyfriend and I wanted some coffee to perk us up and prevent us from having food coma. I really did not want to go to a chain so we stopped by here. I had a creme brulee latte and my boyfriend had a triple espresso (yes, you read that right - he's a bit of a coffee-head!) The latte was good and I liked the decoration on top of it. My only complaint was that I wasn't sure if it would be brought to me so I stood awkwardly and waited for it. The cup was pretty full so it would be difficult for me to carry it to my table, which was in the back of the cafe. The barista offered me a saucer, which was nice, but in my opinion, offering that to me in advance would have been better customer service. She brought my boyfriend's to our table. The menu boasts lots of coffee and tea options as well as food. I liked the natural light that was coming in, but felt like my boyfriend and I couldn't talk since there were several people studying around us. Also, something happened with their wireless connection causing some patrons to leave and go to another cafe with free wi-fi. So, they needed to work on that. I think I would come back if in the area.

Great place! Not my first time here, not really sure why I don't stop in more often.....anyway good vibe, music, food, and coffee is delicious, took a pound home with me! Also the staff is super friendly! I was able to get a lot of work done here, I'm going to make a point of visiting more often. I do wish they stayed open a wee bit later though.

Finally breaking away from the big business coffee shops and exploring the smaller, independent brews Chicago has to offer. This place isn't ideal if you're coming to work on a project. I had a difficult time connecting to their free Wi-Fi, and it kept dropping me. It's also mall, and moving around was hard. I've got a few extra pounds on me, and with my back pack I kept bumping into people, tables and chairs. I felt really bad about it until I realized that even much skinnier, baggage-free people were moving about uneasily. My Chai Latte with soy was perfect though, and the staff was friendly. It made the trip worth while . I would definitely go there again, but either get my drink to go or just meet up with a friend to chat. Also, the art work and decor were aesthetically pleasing.

Green tea & veggie wrap were good. Music at right volume, lots of seating options. I'll save give stars for when I return for coffee & the " trooper" (breakfast burrito containing waffle!)

Cozy and quieter than Metropolis cafe with a great menu including baked goods from Sweet Misgivings. Free wifi. Also, the back seating area has a gorgeous sun roof that brightens the whole area. There is nothing like writing your next novel in the middle of a Chicago winter while under real sunlight. Fun loving and unpretentious staff. I think this will be my new regular coffee house!

Love supporting the local coffee shops/cafes in the 'hood. Drinks are tasty, wonderful ambience, free wifi, great music, friendly staff and overall a nice place to work or read for a couple hours. Food is average, but other than that this is a great local coffee shop that I highly recommend if you're in Edgewater/Andersonville.

Kitchen sink is a better place hands down than the coffee shop down the street, Coffee Chicago, but it's very small and you have to ask for WIFI. Prices are reasonable and the coffee is great.

Good coffee, good food, not too pricey. Good atmosphere, friendly baristas. The inside is a little cramped; it can fill up with campers quickly. They put out a couple tables outside in the summer, but they're always taken. Probably my favorite coffee place in Uptown/Edgewater, but it's a gamble sometimes if you're trying to find a seat. I think you need to ask for a wi-fi password. I forget if it's unlimited or not.

I love supporting a coffee shop that is not Starbucks. :) They are friendly, down home, helpful, etc. Their food is good. The drinks are great. It's nice and relaxing. Indoor and outdoor seating. Parking: Street Parking (Metered out front or free street further away) or close to the redline...I think. I don't do public transit.

I love this place! I always see some LGBT folks in there, it has a nice sticker on the front welcoming trans folks with gender neutral bathrooms, and the coffee and eats are soooooo good! Wi-fi is free for 2 hours with purchase. It's a great space to get work done. This is a great coffee shop to go to in my gayborhoood!

Okay, this little joint is trying really hard since it switched ownership and changed the name. Some very unusual and delicious sandwich combinations, and the same great coffee. I had a needlessly elongated wait time once for breakfast, when my order was mistakenly given to someone else. However, once I got what I ordered, it was delicious. I pop in here for coffee now and then, and am glad to see them in the 'hood. Wifi and a pleasant atmosphere, I'm optimistic them really becoming a nice place once they get the few kinks worked out with the serving and ordering.

In thinking back to all the different places I've lived over the years, in different cities and different neighborhoods, I seem to always be reminded of that one little neighborhood coffee shop that made each place feel unique, but strangely at home. Since moving to Edgewater about six months ago, I had yet to find that cozy little niche - until now. Kitchen Sink is the pitch perfect neighborhood coffee shop. The atmosphere is warm and modern, with a comfy sitting area in the back splashed with sunlight from a skylight seemingly cut right out of the roof. The smell of Metropolis coffee (big plus) wafts through the quaint shotgun cafe and the baristas are polite and friendly. We came in for a quick brunch the other day - the lox and bagel was delicious and incredibly reasonable - but I hope to come back soon with a good book or paper and settle in for a bit longer. With the summer right around the corner, I'm hoping their patio area becomes the spot in the 'hood to people watch and relax. Stop in, kick back and get to know the neighborhood. This is one to remember.

Cute place. The food is original and very tasty (I had the Kels - turkey sandwich with BBQ sauce, pickled onions, and more). The patio is small but dog-friendly (came here after spending the morning at the Montrose Dog Beach).

Kitchen sink is probably one of those spots I would not have found if it were not for scoutmob ( scoutmob.com ) I really enjoyed myself at this cozy coffee shop/deli. Since I had 1/2 off I actually bought two sandwiches... The menu is funky, with sandwiches that appear to be prepared on fresh baked bread. The quirky names of the sandwiches actually makes it pretty fun trying to figure out what the hell you are going to eat. I actually appreciated the creativity. Food quality was fantastic. THe ingredients tasted fresh. I also like the fact that the place is super cozy. A tad bit dim allowing the eyes to rest easy. The service was fantastic. The sandwich maker/cashier/barista were fantastic, and warm. I like this space.

We lived around the corner from the Kitchen Sink for several years...it used to be called Pause then....but some things have not changed. My husband finds a reason to drive over there every Saturday for the Creme Brulee latte. Every now and then, he will bring me the white chocolate mocha, which is very nice. We occasionally sample the sweet stuff, cookies, cakes etc. but the lattes are what take us back. And the friendly (but not overly talkative or superficial) staff.

  • Boon K.

So the coffee is good here but I was really happy with my sandwich. I has the mayor it was just perfection. The thin layer of peanut butter just made my day on this sandwich and nice toasted multi grain bread was soft and chewy too.

The food is tops, the drinks are the shiz, and the staff persons are awesome. So why only 4 stars? The WiFi sitch is less than optimal. Doable?...yes. Ideal?...no. But, this place has something for everyone - tea lovers, coffee freaks (ahem, speaking), the lunch-hungry, the hangover-nursing, or just the all-around looking-for-somewhere-to-chill/read/work-that-isn't-Starbucks-and-also-I-love-supporting-local-business types. The best types, really. The only gripe is the WiFi; 2 hours with purchase, then 1 hour for each additional purchase after that. I totally understand limiting time on the Internet to avoid having squatters in your joint, but it made for a bit of a choppy afternoon with the logging off/signing on several times. Another plus: it's obvious the peeps who work there know the locals, and the whole place has a nice, homey, neighborhood vibe. And bonus, when I was there, Miss Ollie herself actually came in! Would definitely recommending spending some time and cash at Kitchen Sink.

it's quick and cheap and not a chain, all good things going for it. went for a breakfast burrito and got the aphrodite (olives, egg, pepper, greens) which was decent but pretty small

I was looking for a new place to get some good coffee and study outside my apartment. I found Kitchen Sink through Yelp and figured I would give it a shot. Walking into the restaurant it appears slightly crowded. The front of the shop has a small sitting area and there were several people working on various things. Luckily, there is also a back portion of the joint that opens up and has a good number of tables and seating. The decor is nice and has local art on the walls and a slight hipster feel. The staff were warm and professional, really nothing exceptional though. I ordered a cappuccino and The Mayor (sandwich). The coffee was very good and definitely a large! The Mayor was a different sandwich with turkey, brie, bacon, fig jam, and peanut butter. It was definitely eclectic and yummy. I would order a different drink next time because they did not go together. The quality if the sandwich definitely impressed me and they used very good ingredients. There is a good assortment of sandwiches and other coffee shop food here. The prices are not great but it is all very good quality and I will likely be back.

This was a nice enough place to stop in for a bagel with cream cheese or one of those good salads. I liked that they had bottled Cokes too since you don't tend to see that everywhere. That's always classy to me. :)

Damn. Damn damn damn damn. I was all set to make this my permanent No. 1 third place, and then my girlfriend and I had to go and get an apartment west of the river. Takes too long for me to get here now. Whenever I have an excuse, I come here anyway. Kitchen Sink is a groovy little spot that really feels alive. There's not any one thing you can put your finger on; it simply hits the right notes. The coffee drinks and sandwiches are well-made, and there's a crazy selection of snacky sides (chili-lime plantain chips for the win!). Wi-fi is free but dispensed in measured, limited doses (two hours per cash drop). The staff are nice. Really, how hard is it to be nice? Yet how many coffeehouses have you been to where the staff had uncalled-for attitude? No such thing here. Nice. All of 'em. Praise be. A teensy bit expensive. I'm willing to forgive. If only I lived close enough for Kitchen Sink to be my home away from home. I guess it'll have to be more like a vacation home.

We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. It's a bit small and worn in the dining area. We got a scone and a hot cider. The baristas were competent. There was one bathroom that was in reasonable shape. We liked the skylight and stained glass. Basically, it was good, but not great. It doesn't have a lot more to offer than other local establishments.

Strong, dark, drip coffee. YUMMMMM! How coffee should be. The local artwork on the wall, Sean Welker is worth the visit alone. A nice little respite on a chilly fall day.

What a nice lil' cafe! In the back there's a beautiful stained glass window and skylight and nice cushioned places to sit. If you're in the neighborhood, absolutely check this place out.

Oh my. My review badly needs updating. Kitchen Sink is amazing, it just took a few tries to realize this. And it's my favorite coffeeshop in the city. Yes. Really. So that I don't waste your time and keep you from heading over there RIGHT NOW, I will bullet-point my review for your convenience, dear reader: - Great range of food options, most of them very healthy, all of them well-priced. Not as many vegetarian sandwiches as I'd like, but hey, most people aren't veggies. - Diverse clientele. Honestly, it's refreshing. While it means putting up with the occasional screaming toddler, it really is great to see such a range of people: businessmen, students, artists, all sorts. - Cozy atmosphere. Friendly and cute staff. Small space with nice tables. And it's WARM. This is such a gift in a city in which most of the coffeeshops are abysmally under-heated. - The breakfast burrito. Ah, how many breakfasts have I eaten here because of this thing? Yum! I love this place. It's usually pretty quiet, and I always get a lot of work done here. Wi-fi is good for two-hours per purchase, which seems very fair to me, and the connection is good. Kitchen Sink, I love you!

On my first visit, I thought the Mayor, a PBJ/turkey frankenstein sandwich would be either the best thing I ever tasted or an abomination. It was the former. Everything here is fantastic and the service is friendly. I seek it out whenever I'm in the neighborhood.

The Kitchen Sink is up there on my favorite coffee shops in this area. It's a fun, hipstery coffee shop with your basic espresso drinks as well as a fun selection of sandwiches. The staff is nice and humorous, they have great seating and decor, and it's a nice place to work (free wi-fi with passcode for up to an hour).

You will never ever and I mean NEVER ever be bored at this little coffee shop if you deem to sit at one of the tables outside. You see this little gem is located right off the Redline stop @Berwyn. So the stream of characters you will encounter while enjoying your cup of Joe provide never-ending entertainment. Think of it as coffee & a show...where the theatre is a little sketch and a wee bit loud. This newish establishment took over from Pause...2 baristas bought it, renamed it, and did some tweaking to the menu & also the space. I think that is a pretty cool story & really hope they can make it work. So far so good! The atmosphere is clean & fresh...has a bit of a crisp feeling to it, like a brand new white buttoned down shirt. Although it does not at all feel stuffy, especially since the baristas have a bit of a hippy vibe to them (you have got to love the eclectic vibe of this hood). Now let's talk coffee, this stuff is STRONG & no wonder since they serve Metropolis (not really for the faint of heart IMO). My one complaint is that they serve the stuff in these TEENY, TINY, WEE cups...one gulp & poof it is gone (makes for sad Unity). How is a gal supposed to hang out & enjoy her sketch improv theatre with these little things...come on Kitchen Sink, get bigger mugs (seriously!). The plus of this situation is that they do give you one free refill on said tiny sip of coffee, so I am bit appeased. The food, they have lots of pastries on display that are so tempting. Also have sandwiches, bagels, and all your other typical cafe fare @decent prices. I opted for a muffin that was pretty darn delicious. So, if you are in this hood, check this place out...sit outside & enjoy the show! I know I will be back...I love FREE entertainment with my shot of coffee.

I recently moved in down the street from the Kitchen Sink and I've been excited to try it out ever since I noticed there great little outdoor seating area. Unfortunately, I chose to go on a day that was pouring rain, so that didn't quite pan out, however sitting inside is quite lovely. They've got a surprisingly extensive menu for such an unassuming little storefront, including some very tasty sandwiches. I got The Mayor (turkey, bacon, peanut butter, brie and a fig jam), which was very unexpected--in a good way. My friend got The Kitchen Sink, which was also yummy, though I thought the cole slaw was a tad tart. Best of all? They passed my chai test! It wasn't all milk or syrupy--but had a nice spice to it, as chai should.

This coffee shop has so much character and is so cosy to hang around for a couple hours on a lazy day or just stop in to grab a quick coffee to go! It's metropolis coffee, so its hands down delicious. This place is always always full! The closest coffee shop to the Berwyn red line, it adds much needed culture to the neighborhood!! Definitely not the last time going

Wow, I can't believe I haven't written a glowing review for Kitchen Sink yet. I have been here a half a dozen times in the passed year and been impressed with every single visit. The room is very nice. The skylight and giant window, matched with the glass tiled table all lend to a very comfortable experience. The staff has always been great, and the food, well, it is DELICIOUS!!! I have settled on a favorite thing, the Miss Ollie. Paired with a Hazelnut Latte and a bag of chips, I am in heaven. If the homemade Mac and Cheese is available, you have to get that, really. It is great. I wish they would open up one over here in West Logan Buck Park Town Square!

I've been on the prowl for a great lunch spot where I can take my laptop and get some work done in relative peace and quiet and that has amazing lunch food -- well, here it is! Came here to grab a quick bite and I have to say, this place is adorable! I had a bagel with lox and a latte -- both were wonderful and very reasonably priced. The staff was so sweet and parking wasn't an issue despite the crazy snow. I can definitely see myself coming here regularly. Stop in - trust me it's worth it!!

Stopped in here today on my way to finish some errands and got an iced latte. They put three shots in their large and I was offered the 'courtesy' shot (which to any previous or current baristas- you know is the working barista being cool since within 30 seconds the shot is no good anyway) which was really nice. Most chain places leave that out despite it being waste anyway and it is touches like that that keep me coming back to independently owned shops. The barista was super nice and answered my random question about their teas and the interior is really chill and cute. It also has a recycling bin near the straw and napkin area and their cups are compostable. The place is kind of small, but it is right near the Berwyn stop and the interior kind of reminds me of a small town coffee shop out of the 90s. It was darker inside but not Dracula's den dark like some places I've been to. The inside also has some neat artwork to take in and cool looking wood tables. There is also a neat little outdoor area without all the pretentious crap. In other words- sweet! I felt bad because I didn't have cash on me so I couldn't leave a tip for the barista but I will definitely be back with cash to try all the delicious looking pastries and some of their kick-ass sounding teas. If the rest of their menu ends up as good as my latte then I know where I'll be going whenever I need to hop on the train and I'll be updating to 5 stars.

I stopped into this place with some friends the last time I was in Chicago. I got the PRF sandwich and a coffee. The sandwich was just stupid good. So great. I wish I could get someone to FedEx me one down here in Georgia. The coffee was also excellent- just a straight drip coffee, cream and no sugar. I was told by the nice person at the counter that it was locally roasted. Pretty superb, whatever it was. Service was excellent and casual and the dining room was comfortable. This would be my lunch spot if I lived in Chicago.

I am sick of Starbucks. I am sickl of their crappy music. I am sick of their subpar coffee. I am sick to death that soccer moms on their smart phones think of Starbucks as a daycare center. I try to avoid Starbucks like the plague. Kitchen Sink, on the other hand, is a breath of fresh air. Fine-crafted sandwiches, deliciously brewed coffee, free wifi and a relaxed atmosphere where one can study, do work or quietly chat and not be assaulted by the obnoxiousness of corporate culture and the dimwits it invites in. This place used to be called Paws, before it was bought out and remodeled by some of the former employees. It is an independent coffee shop in the purest sense of the word. If you care about small business, forgo Starbucks and Caribou. Come here instead. It's right off the Berwyn Red Line and a great place to get a quick drink while waiting for the next train or Foster bus.

I really love the nutella and creme brule lattes, I love having a neighborhood coffee shop, and I love the food options they're now offering... that said, my biggest complaint is that for a great little coffee shop under the EL, they are really slow in the morning. I can't stop here if I'm at all in a rush because I'll be really late. Still love bringing my dog to the little outdoor patio though on days I don't have somewhere to be!

I love this place. I've only been there a few times so far, but I will go out of my way to stop here if I'm in a coffee mood. The coffee first off is excellent, I love the light roast early in the morning before going for a walk along the lake. I have to keep going around meal time to tell you more about the food, but they have a really great selection of to-go energy bars that you can pick up quick. Very quiet place to sit, natural light for reading and comfortable benches if you can manage to grab a corner seat!

I love that the weather is nice and I can get to Kitchen Sink more frequently. Their staff is very friendly, and they don't look at you like you're nuts when you ask for a menu recommendation. I haven't had a ton of different things there, but I highly, highly recommend the Yetta (beets - YUM, chevre, walnut vinaigrette), their homemade granola bars, and the flax seed and fruit muffin. I also like that they have a bunch of different coffee drinks that you don't see anywhere else; it allows me to put a little variety in my daily caffeination. So yeah, stop in here and sample their wares. You won't be disappointed. Dang, now I made myself crave a Yetta for lunch and I'm nowhere near Edgewater!

Stopped t this neighborhood coffee shop to work for the afternoon. Had Italian Soda and a sandwich. Decent on both (if not a little expensive). They have a "Free Wifi" sticker on their window and advertise on here as such. To get the code, you need to buy something (which I did - $13 after tax). I can understand that necessity of requiring a purchase but when they do give you the code, there is a 2 hour limit. Now, I can understand that also.....to an extent. At this shop you get one code for each purchase.......not number of items. I find it unfair that if I spend $13 in their store I should be given longer access as opposed to the person who comes in and buys a soda pop. Otherwise, the space is small (less than 20 seats), but the staff were friendly. I am really getting tired of companies promising "Free WiFi" when, in actuality, it is free only when you buy something.

Oh. I really really like it. I wasn't even sure I would, because I loved Pause so much and was so sad when it closed down, but I like the new cafe just as much. I'm especially glad about all the fresh food they now have..homemade cupcakes and soups and salads, bagels, pastries from the best bakeries,... Now I tend to go in and want to eat EVERYTHING. I do miss the old bathroom..maybe this one will still get some decoration so it looks a bit cuter.

Kitchen Sink is a very comfortable place to have a coffee & scone or a whole lunch. Jeff & Ally have made this place a gem in Edgewater. I love this place! Today I had a bowl of mac & cheese mixed with a wonderful turkey chili (chili mac). OMG, it was absolutely yummy!!! Very little remains of the old Pause Coffee Shop that used to occupy this space (and that's mostly a good thing). The decor is way fresh & clean. The lighting is better, the flooring, food counter and menu are WAY improved. There's little I could say wrong with this place that they have any control over. It is small and sometimes crowded, but that's part of the ambiance. (Ask someone to join you at your table if you see them looking!) :-) They've created a much more efficient space. The food is absolutely fresh and amazing. It's priced well and I can't say enough about the quality. Try this place, you'll like it!

I adore this place. The food is unique and delicious, the drinks are top notch, the staff are super friendly, and I love the atmosphere. The patio seating is particularly delightful in the summer. The only thing keeping me from giving it the full five stars is that service can be slow. Several times I've waited over 15 minutes for a burrito or sandwich. I still highly reccommend Kitchen Sink to anyone, just don't go when you're in a hurry.

Just walking into this adorable coffee shop, I wanted to break out into a yoga pose, and I don't even do yoga. It was just so chill...zen-tastic, if you will. I came here tonight to get my knitting on (or fix it, as it were, thanks to my teacher sitting across from me) and I felt more like napping in the corner. It was a bit dim, pin-drop quiet, and just slightly on the warm side. Perfect napping ambience...however, I was there to do work, so luckily I was imbibing in a fantastic mug of latte (with perfect frothy creaminess) and a nutrific berry scone. This place is perfect if you want to spend a quiet hour or two by yourself reading or writing, or if you want to have an intimate conversation with close friends. A literal jump from the red line Berwyn stop, it's easily accessible, and though the prices are a bit high, it's so much easier to fork over some extra cash when you know it isn't going to the behemoth that is Starbucks.

It's a nice place, and beats the hell out of the coffee shop down the block. My chai was disappointing and forgettable, but the muffin I bought was delcious (a $3 muffin SHOULD be delicious). I really liked Pause and it seems like some of the changes were unnecessary - their tables have tile tops now, which kinda stinks if you need to do some writing. And I thought the vibe was a bit friendlier at Pause.

Kitchen Sink is a great little coffee and sandwich shop. We stopped in for a quick bite on a Saturday and were quite pleased with our chosen sandwiches. Most of the group had bacon, egg & cheese on a bagel while I opted for the Lox. I was a bit surprised that my sandwich was a tad leaky but I blame the tomato so no harm, no foul. It's a bit far away to make regular visits but I'll definitely be back.

I have lived in Chicago for over 2 years, and while I have had some great espresso at various coffee houses, I've never found a place I was compelled to be a regular at...until I found the Kitchen Sink. This place is cozy and tucked a few doors down from the Berwyn Redline stop. The staff is nice, the coffee is delicious (they brew Metropolis), but the sandwiches are pretty otherworldly and my biggest reason for going here. I like the Mayor, which is a unique combination of turkey, brie, bacon, fig jam and peanut butter. Yes, peanut butter. Unless you are coming with a big appetite or splitting with a friend, these babies are pretty hard to finish. But they are oh-so-good. This is definitely one of my favorite coffee shops in Chicago and I am glad it is within waking distance of my place. They definitely have my business.

The coffee is good. I won't deny that, but the barista I had was so unfriendly that it left a bad taste in my mouth. I might come back when I have early morning advising next semester, but I don't know. It's not that hard to smile, people, and if you can't be friendly to your customers, you probably shouldn't be working in the service industry.

Live in the neighborhood and have not been in since Kitchen Sink took over for Pause. I've always been very glad to have a small coffee house in the neighborhood and have always wanted to support the local business. I stopped going to Pause after a while because I felt the baristas were downright rude to most customers and especially rude to people who spoke "starbucks" to them on accident. Kitchen Sink is an improvement, the atmosphere itself is much brighter and cleaner. They maximized on the fun ecclectic nature of the place, but gave it a much needed facelift. I was happy to see that they kept most of the pastries from Pause, but also added some great salads, sandwiches and soups as well. A great improvement. Their coffee is amazing, I love stopping in in the morning, especially on the weekends. Their espresso drinks are to die for and some of the best I've ever had. The only negative things I have to say are that on weekday mornings, they are not a quick stop. If you're used to chain coffee shop timing, expect to wait a little longer for your coffee to go. It's worth it, but be prepared. The only other negative is that they still don't have the most friendly baristas. They are not outright rude like they were under Pause management, but they're not overly friendly either.

My boyfriend and I have been going to this cafe long before it became the Kitchen Sink Cafe. The co-owners Ally and Jeff have transformed the space into an inviting destination- one that we look forward to in our daily routine. It's hip without the pretense, and locally run- plus they have an amazing array of baked goods, breakfast wraps and homemade specialty cream cheese- all delicious!

Love it! Great place to grab a sandwich, a salad or I need to go back and have the Breakfast Burrito. They have outdoor seating I split "The Mayor" and "The CTA" both were delish and the owner was very nice. A great addition to the neighbor hood a must try :-)

I've passed this place by so many times, only to stop in to ask if they were hiring one or twice but never actually checked the place out. It's cozy, there's plenty of seating toward the back but my favorite spot is the seat by the window, where I easily spent over four hours reading, drawing and people watching. Unfortunately I think I just got lucky to nab that particular spot that day as it's been occupied every time I pass by on my bike. They have Metropolis coffee and Izze fizzy drinks which are both stellar. Haven't really checked out any of there other fare yet. Maybe when I have 8 bucks to spend on cafe food. Their prices are on the high side for a coffee shop. I didn't like that their in house coffee was served in a way teeny weeny cup for 1.93, the price of a 12 oz. in other places. BUT I realized that the first refill is free which makes up for it. Refills after that I believe are .60 cents.

This place is great. I went in with my mom, who isn't big on sandwiches, and she even liked it. I had 'the mayor', a fantastic change from a traditional turkey - who knew peanut butter, brie, and jam go so well together? Kitchen Sink is a perfect spot to hang out and chat while noshing on darn tasty grub.

Went here for breakfast last Sunday morning. The place is bright and sunny, and had room for our group of five, which was surprising. I had a sesame bagel with chive cream cheese, lox, and capers. The bagel was really reasonably priced ($6.50 I think) and absolutely wonderful. I'll definitely be back!

Love this place. It's my favorite neighborhood coffee shop, and I've lived in a lot of Chicago neighborhoods. The people are nice and friendly and make me feel like Norm from Cheers when I walk in. The coffee is good. I don't eat the food much, but what I've had has been good. I love sitting in the back beneath the skylight enjoying the artwork of the week. They've had some really interesting stuff. One review mentioned the occasional annoying toddler. The only experience I've had with that was when a couple and their kid sat at my table for a few minutes. It was a bit odd because they didn't even say anything to me, but it wasn't a big deal. Definitely pop in here if you are in the area and looking for a place to get a cup of coffee or relax with a book or your laptop for a bit.

This place is just lovely. I came on a Sunday morning and it wasn't packed - but the food was fantastic. We had a kind of working breakfast together and hung around and talked and ate. I had the sandwich that comes with turkey, jalapenos, and apricot jam, and take my word for it: what sounds surprising and odd is actually a match made in heaven, like inter-tubes and lazy rivers. They serve Metropolis coffee, a recent favorite, and give you a free refill just for being totally awesome (which both of us know, you probably are). Thanks Kitchen Sink! I'll definitely be back.

This was my first time here and I was pretty impressed. The actual space is really nice, with plenty of art and a wonderful skylight that lets in tons of light. My chai latte was fantastic (plenty strong and spicy, which I love). My ginger cream scone was pretty good, but kind of stale.

I've been coming here since they opened, and this is as good as it gets. The coffee is always great, my milk is never burnt, and the staff is friendly. I am a big fan of the yetta, and their summer gazpacho. My only complaint would be that they are slightly too far from my house.

I was a patron of Pause and had always found it a bit worn out. Everything looked like it needed a good cleaning (including at least one of the employees) and some things needed to be replaced (broken chairs and torn up booths). When it closed, I was sad the neighborhood lost an independent business, but hoped the new business would be an improvement. Kitchen Sink is an amazing transformation from what Pause was. I know it's just getting started so I've been patient and impressed with the constant evolution. They now offer salads and sandwiches along with the coffee, tea, pastries, and soup they offered when they first opened. The space seems to borrow the best objects that were present in Pause, and adds new tables and chairs and a great new counter. The counter top is lower and seems much more open and welcoming. I've had a few sandwiches and have to say, each one has been great. I've had about 4 different kinds of soup and thought each one was better than I had ever had in a restaurant, let alone a coffee shop. I asked where they get their soup and was told they are all homemade. Yum! I do remember when Pause was in operation, there seemed to be so many people taking up all the table space at times, and they didn't seem like customers (a person is not a customer unless they make a purchase, right?). I would go in and see the same people and rarely see a coffee cup on their table. I once overheard an employee tell someone they would have to make a purchase in order to use the internet and take up the table space. The person gave all kinds of attitude as if he was entitled to take up the space and they couldn't make him buy anything. I asked about it once and was told they have all kinds of people who sit there all day and don't spend a penny, but they also had many great customers who did spend a good amount of time there and did spend money - hence they were customers and entitled to use the space and the internet. Why is that some people, including some who have reviewed Kitchen Sink here, think they are owed free internet and table space just because the door isn't locked? This is a cute little business but they have bills to pay too. They seem to be trying to please as many people as they can, while still trying to make a profit. It isn't a hippy commune where everybody shares everything they have, its a business (not that I have anything against hippies or communes). So, to those who have a complaint about the fact that this "For Profit" business expects them to purchase something in order to use the complimentary internet and table space - Get a life and grow up. They happily give one hour of free internet with a purchase. One cup of coffee can get you an hour, if you need more time, buy another cup or something else. Wow, glad I got that off my chest. I'm really excited that Kitchen Sink is now open and appears to be doing so well. I love the personalities behind the counter and can tell they are all really proud of the place. Cheers to Kitchen Sink!!

i REALLY like this place. i often get coffee there in the mornings, although i have to walk slightly out of my way before getting on the L. it's worth it. the coffee is GOOD. the food is GOOD. the patio is a quiet little oasis if you have the time. the only downfall are a couple of unfriendly, not quite outright rude, baristas... not to say all of them are that way.

I was so happy when Kitchen Sink opened up! They did a great job renovating the former Pause space and the coffee is still top notch. Yeah!

i've been living in this neighborhood for a year and half, but i don't get a lot of chance to come inside of Kitchen Sink. i love love this place, they display variety of artworks, and has beautiful clearstory, and they also use bamboo floor, which is super environmentally friendly. and has fabulous matcha latte i don't get chance to try their sandwich yet, but definitely will soooon.

I just recently found this place (thanks to yelp) and boy oh boy was I pleasantly surprised. The sandwiches are delicious! I got the Kels (roast beef, pickled onions, Brie, and other yumminess) and my mouth nearly exploded from deliciousness overload. It was also only $7 and the serving size was perfect. I will definitely make my way back to the Kitchen Sink.

This place is not good. First off the prices are not good at all for the coffee or the service, which when push comes to shove is the most important thing.

So I've been waiting for this place to open b/c I thought Pause was great, and I was curious how they would remodel the place. Anyway, the worker that was there was really nice, my spinach croissant was delish and they customized my drink w/a smile. I also really like the decor. It's still artsy but it's a little more artsy chic than Pause (both styles have their charm). I would have given them 5 stars if it wasn't for the darn internet for 1 hr thing (to be fair, I was told an extension was possible, I'm just not sure that the offer stands all of the time). I get why they did it, the place isn't exactly big enough to house too many customers so turnover is important. Still, about 80% of the time, I'm in cafes to do school work & about 80% of the time I need the internet. I'm definitely coming back, but I can only do that when I don't have too much to do or during that 20% of the time when I visit cafes to chat with friends. If you're not bugged by internet issues, this place is a 5. Update: They upped the internet time to 2 hrs. Much appreciated.

The store front is really small. So i was really delighted to find the back of the store to be airy and filled with skylight. Despite the fact that it is right next to the l stop, it is very quiet. It is literally right next to my home. I'll definitely go back.

I finally started going back to this great little neighborhood cafe. I was worried when "Pause" closed, because I was becoming a real fan of their unique and tasty lattes. When the location opened as "Kitchen Sink" I was weary to go check out the changes. However, all the yummy drinks are still there, and the atmosphere is still comfortably warm! They renovated the cafe bar and added a few new food and desert items. Last time I went, it was a lot more crowded than before, which is good for them. I hope they stick around, because I really love this place.

The summer after I moved to Chicago, about five or six years ago, Pause was my morning refuge while I tried to adjust to a new city and find a job. The coffee was strong, and the croissants were tender and delicious. Over time, the quality of the baked goods and coffee declined at Pause. Attempts to improve the interior tended to make the place seem grungier and more mismatched. So I was skeptical about yet another change to my beloved institution. First of all, the name Kitchen Sink brought to mind dirty dishes. Don't let the name fool yo., So far I've only had delicious, fresh, and friendly experiences here. The coffee and espresso (have I ever enjoyed espresso as much?), though Metropolis now instead of Intelligentsia, has returned to its former glory. The espresso was almost complex and rich and caramely enough to forgo sugar, and the coffee tastes like coffee, not lukewarm water strained through a dirty sock. And the bagels ... Who remembers when Pause went through the square, bready bagel phase? Yes, it was awful. Or how about the cream cheese rations from one of the grumpy owners? Worry no more. The bagels are from New York Bagel and Bialy (often considered the city's best), and you can get Kitchen Sink's own garlic and rosemary cream cheese concoction on it, wrapped and ready for travel. I can't wait to try the sandwich and salad offerings. Regarding the one-hour (or is it two now?) internet policy, I don't mind. I've been that customer who walked in the door, saw a bunch of people on laptops taking up every last bit of space (yeah, single person, do you really need to spread ALL of your stuff out at a table for four or six? note the convenient stools at the front window), and headed straight back out the door. I appreciate free internet as much as the next person, but within reason. If it weren't for the memory of those delicious chocolate croissants from early Pause days, I could truly say it's as good as it gets. Yelp needs to allow half stars.

I had an absolutely delicious soy latte here today! Perfect temperature, dreamy foam, and all together it might a gloomy cloudy day better! Thanks to the baristas!

Great! I've only been here once to get tea and a bagel and both were really good. The staff was friendly and the ambience was great.

Can't beat it for local, friendly and tasty coffee. You like breakfast burritos? They got breakfast burritos. You like coffee? They got coffee. Well I guess that's sorta self evident, but they got *Metropolis* coffee! Muffins? Got that, too (flax seed is the best, but probably not if you have colitis). And they got art, too! All of that and friendly independent owners who remember you when ya come in. As far as coffee shops go, this one is tops.

i've gone past this little coffee shop numerous times, but i'd never noticed it until a few weeks ago. from the outside, it looks like a really small storefront cafe, but i was pleasantly surprised by the fair amount of tables and chairs available. i just had a regular coffee and the Evanston sandwich, which consisted of smoked salmon, cream cheese, an egg, and really good bread. everything was really good...nothing show-stopping by any means, but the food is definitely a good alternative to subway or any other chains in the area. i'll definitely head back here when i'm in the area.

My coffeemaker went on the fritz this morning and I stopped down at Kitchen Sink, which I hadn't been to since it was Pause. I should just tell the baristas this directly next time but if I'm paying almost $5 for two take-out plain black coffees, I would love it if they'd fill up the cups all the way.

I wish I could give this place a good review, but frankly it was generic. I paid $6.30 for a cup of tea and a scone, and that does not qualify as good pricing in my book. There was no food menu and it didn't appear that they offered anything other than a selection of pastries, bagels (that looked as if they had been sitting out all day in a wire hanging basket), and two soups (neither were vegetarian and they were both vegetable). The decor is cute, but there is a surprising lack of ambiance. Even the people working there lacked any sort of charm. I will always support local businesses over chain stores, but sadly this place did not give me any reason to return.

great joint! affordable and tasty comfort food. nothing too wild or adventurous and that's okay once in a while. the staff seemed pleasant and "the Damned" were playing quietly on the stereo. all good things in my world.
