Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

When the Red Sox triumphed over Cleveland in 2007's ALCS, I (a Boston fan) ordered Jade East as consolation take-out for Brandon C (an Indians fan). It was perfect, because I got to celebrate Boston's victory with some tasty wonton soup and pork fried rice, and Brandon got to crab rangoon his sorrows away. Yes, crab rangoon is a verb now. I feel like I always get more than I paid for. I usually can't decide between fried rice and steamed rice, but lucky for me, I don't have to. Every time I've ordered fried rice, a steamed rice has always made its way into the bag as well. Usually, there's a free order of egg rolls and a few sodas, too. The pot stickers are GIANT. I am full after about 3, which makes me a little sad because I usually eat these first. The wonton soup is also huge, so share it with a friend!

It's comical and almost sad to me that people have given this place good reviews. I live around the corner, and won't go near this restaurant. Why? 1. In the 3 years that I have lived around the corner, I have NEVER EVER seen someone eating here. Ok fine, they do a takeout business, but still, it's a block from De Paul. You would think if it was good SOMEONE would eat here. 2. The food is greasy and all tastes the same. Sure, it's cheap and they give you free egg rolls, but ugh, it's disgusting. 3. It is dirty and smelly in the restaurant. It smells like mold and is just dingy and gross. 4. They overcharge you on tax. They charge the extra 1% tax that is supposed to be for the part of Chicago around Navy Pier. To try and justify it, they have a flyer on the wall explaining the extra tax, except it clearly states the area of the city in which you should be charged the extra 1% tax, and guess what, Lincoln Ave in Lincoln Park is not one of them! There are so many better Chinese options around (Yens and House of Hunan on the lower end, Dee's and Shine on the higher end) that I don't know why anyone eats here.

Pretty good if i do say, depending on what you order. The prices are fair and the portions are large so that's not the issue. I wasn't impressed with their orange chicken sauce, but the lo mein was delicious! I think it really depends on your taste and what you order.
(3)Joe H.
I have never been to the actual jade east storefront.. but have ordered there delivery for about 3 years now. I am not saying it's the greatest Chinese food in the world, but I don't think it quite deserves the lashing its taking here on yelp. They are always pretty quick with the delivery, the food is always tasty, and they definitely give you plenty. I usually have enough for a second meal, which is always nice to bring as lunch when there is not a decent place to eat anywhere near where you work. The price is perfect and they give you little coupons on the menu for free rice, or appetizers.. Can't beat that. I will be eating here until I move out of their delivery zone!
(4)Billy K.
Blah-East. Most of what I ordered seemed to all be simmered in the same brown sauce. Overall the food seemed unnecessarily fattening and salty, and the potstickers/rangoon type things I ordered were definitely flavored with freezer-burn. Fried rice was pretty good, but I always like fried rice. Maybe I ordered on an off-night? Or maybe Saturday nights are off-nights here. Oh well, there are other options... I looked below at the other reviews - is it true that they charge an extra dollar for credit card orders!?
(2)Mike S.
had some food delivered from here the other night. i am a bit biased since i live near satay and dine there frequently. with that said i think jade's entrees held up. i got the kung pao chicken with white rice. the portion was very generous - larger than satay and cheaper. the apppetizers were good - crab triangles, egg rolls. i need to eat here again without thinking about satay. i was pleased with everything i ordered - will definately eat again soon. it warmed up nicely for leftovers!!
(3)Shannon B.
The food here is SO good, the delivery is fast, and the restaurant itself is charming. It's inexpensive, the dishes are big (which is nice if you're a college student and need to get 2 meals out of one order...), and while the English of the servers/delivery people is extremely strained, the staff is quite friendly. The lunch specials are especially good deals. Also: try the almond cookies and the crab rangoons! The chicken teriayaki kabob appetizer things are awesome, too.

I visited this restaurant after a show at the Apollo theater. I have to believe there is much better Chinese food in the area. I am willing to bet if the health department walked into the men's bathroom they would probably shut down the restaurant. The food was overcooked, but the service was very good. I think the restaurant is staying in business by having very cheap prices and delivery to lazy college kids that don't cook. Best part of the night was when the one of the owners who I take to be the mother came out and watched TV at a table across from ours and was falling asleep in her chair....CLASSY!

I love Jade East, have been ordering from there for years! (About 13 to be precise) I give them 5 stars based on how well they're doing what they're trying to do. Are they unbelievable gourmet Chinese cuisine? No, but who expects that from a neighborhood takeout joint? What they do do is deliver quite delicious and consistent food at a fair price. There's always too much food and they deliver quickly and rarely screw anything up! Shouldn't be such a hard to find thing but it is! Love the potstickers and the general tso's! I also like the Kung Pao! Give them a shot!

Ordered from here tonight for dinner after finding them on grubhub.com Food wasn't bad (not the best I've ever had, but defiantly not the worst) and it was nice and hot even though it took over a hour to get here. Crab Rangoon was pretty damn good. I'll defiantly try them out again.
(3)Tim Z.
Great Chinese food! Large, nummy portions.
(4)DF G.
This place is just astonishingly cheap. $24.00, including tax and delivery, for three (HUGE) entrees, crab rangoon, and two cartons of steamed rice. The food is decent, and certainly worth it for the price. I really like their veggies, which is unheard of for most take out Chinese joints.
(4)Mike O.
Their lunch specials (even after lunch hours) come out to a great full meal with side for super cheap. Amazing service! I look forward to eating here every time I visit Chicago!
(5)Josh ..
Been around forever, probably because of the constant influx of new youngsters to the area every year. Its OK, nothing special. Large menu, full array of soups, appetizers, main dishes. I do not think they place is known for anything in particular. Its just in a good area. There are so many other better Chinese places -- not worth running here. I think I ate there because it was the afternoon, we were walking down the street and everyone was just craving Chinese. It was fine for that, but not much more.
(2)Scott H.
I am quite a frugal person, so when I eat out, I like to make sure I'm getting quality and quantity. Jade East delivered on both accounts tonight when my wife and I dined in their dining room. 1 - $6.95 for a heaping entree with rice. The chicken I had seemed to be all white meat (which is a high quality ingredient). The veggies were crisp and my wife's sweet and sour chicken was excellent (I'm usually not a fan). I can't comment on authenticity; just that both plates were delicious. 2 - The service was attentive and friendly. 3 - It seems to be family owned/operated (I always like that aspect) 4 - For dessert, my wife ordered one of there fresh fruit smoothies with Boba (Tapioca balls); it was excellent as well. I live a few blocks away and will probably order takeout and dine-in in the future. I made sure to take a menu.
(4)Jennifer P.
Service is slow, but very friendly and accomodating. Food is delicious. My friend had vegetable chow fun. I had ginger-onion beef. Normally the beef would be breaded and fried, but I asked to have it not breaded and it was delicious - tender beef sauteed with onions and green onions and fresh ginger. Don't you want to eat that right now? Pot stickers were....pot stickers. Not special, but quite delicious. Tea was fragrant and wonderful. It hit the spot and was the perfect place to grab dinner before a show at the nearby Apollo Theatre.
(4)Dan S.
Their mapo tofu is not actually mapo tofu, it's just tofu in some kind of thick, gravy-like syrup. I also ordered szechuan string bean and it come in the same "sauce" as the mapo tofu. If you are going to serve everything in the same sauce, why not indicate that on the menu? It's like some kind of practical joke. "Authentic"? It's not even passable as bad americanized chinese food. It's mostly frozen food microwaved in gravy. Some tofu pieces were also hard and tasted stale. The string bean was soggy with no flavor. It was almost comical. I knew things were off when I walked in and there was crusty food all over the counter and old cupcakes that looked like they have been left out for weeks. Maybe my standards are too high, but I tossed it in the garbage.
(1)Cat D.
It's in a good location, I will give them that. We had the entire place to ourselves, it was empty. However there is a funny story....we were sitting at the table by the window and this woman in a wheelchair kept running her chair into the window and waving her arms....SOOOO disturbing....I am assuming she is a homeless woman looking for food....well about 10 minutes after being harassed by this woman the owner comes out and walks outside to deal with her, we assume that he is telling her to leave...well she was there to pick up her take out order !!! She couldn't get in the door so she was trying to get our attention to open the door! We felt sooo bad!! Anyway, food was pretty good, fast and fresh....China Doll and Nan's is much better...... Cheap place but it is a HOLE in the wall....FOR SURE
(3)Tiffany G.
To be honest, I only ordered Jade East because my favorite Chinese place is cash only. Running to the ATM sort of defeats the purpose of ordering in! So I searched via GrubHub, and came across this place. The only complaint was that it was a $20 min delivery. The portions were huge, and quite yummy! The crab rangoon and pot stickers were great. I'll definitely order from here again...when I'm sans cash that is!
(4)Erica S.
Ordered again tonight. It was delicious and it arrived in about thirty minutes when I was told 45! Hooray! Only drawback is that for delivery, you have to have a 20 buck order. I usually order with other people...let's just say that there is a lot of chinese food in my fridge.
(4)Yo U.
One chicken dish, Macao chicken, was a hit, while the other, Szechwan chicken, was a loser. The fried rice was excessively oil and the rice itself seemed to be a bit overcooked (boiled for too long). The fried wontons were not all that great, but the egg rolls weren't completely disgusting -- a Chicago first for me. The BBQ pork was unexceptional. My quest for good, affordable Chinese food here in Chicago continues.
(2)Brian K.
This was definitely some delicious Chinese take out. I ordered the larger portion because I was feeling extremely hungry. However I did not really need to order the larger size because we got free crab rangoon with our order! Which was super delicious. I kind of wish I was eating it right now. There were plenty of leftovers which were delicious the next day.
(4)Reid G.
This place is OK, I used to get delivery from here all the time, but then I came to the realization that this place is really only 3 stars worthy. The chicken is almost like rubber at times [i used to order their orange chicken often]. The orange sauce is really good though, so if you wanna risk receiving rubbery chicken, take it. The crab rangoons are amazing, i cannot deny. Never eat in though! Its a small place and no one ever does, and it would just be awkward, trust me.

I found Cantonese speakers! I found Cantonese speakers! Ok, so honestly, that's not a big deal, and my Cantonese sucks. Onward to the review...I have no idea how this place stays in business. It's usually empty when the lady and I come...so my wild imagination would like to say this is really just a front for the triads...how cool! Actually, no...from what I've read of the reviews, I'm assuming most of their business comes from delivery and take out. Makes sense. +'s: **The lady loves their chicken and broccoli...she literally goes through withdrawal if she doesn't get it when she craves it. The chicken is white meat and tender, and the broccoli isn't terribly overcooked. It's fresh, so I know it's cooked per order and not just sitting around. **It's BYOB!!! **The portion sizes are fairly large. The lady and I usually share a combo platter of her choice with a side of extra steamed rice. I get to eat the fatty things that come with combo...ie crab ragoon or an egg roll. They're decent. I'm always full when I leave...and no....I do not get hungry 3 hours later. (Ahem...Americans, that is a Chinese food stereotype.) **Cheapies! $11 not including tip usually...$15 on a really expensive night. You can't beat that! Esp with BYOB! **The daughter and her mom are extremely sweet. It's usually just them in the dining area, and they are never anything but polite. --'s: **The lady and I always argue about if the place inside is clean or not. Regardless...it's your opinion. Dining in is not exactly comfy. **Not a fan of the soup. Egg drop, hot and sour, wonton...no no no. However, I'm biased. The soup in all the Chinese restaurants I've been to in this city is just awful. How sad is it the best Asian food I've ever had is in SC??? Will I come back? Yes, it's tradition and my lovely likes it.

I don't have much to say about this except.. oh forget it, here I go again. We have terrible chinese delivery available to us in the Gold Coast. We've tried almost everywhere. I finally went on yelp and grubhub.com looking for yet another place to try. I finally found a place that had oodles of great reviews... We are out of the delivery area. Damn. I have my parents and sister from out of town coming over in like 1 hour. I need to feed these people, and they want Chinese!? I then see that Jade East got some decent revies on GrubHub so alright, let's try them. They were fantastic. Get the honey garlic chicken! And the general tso's. The mongolian beef ain't bad neither. The smoothies suck though. I thought these would be like bubble tea smoothies, which I guess they were, but way too heavy on the blended ice. And I hated my egg roll. Stay away from those things maybe and you should be rollin! Delivery was kind of long, but they did say upfront that they'd take an hour, and they were on time. I'll order from here again.
(4)Natalie R.
Jade East is my favorite Chinese delivery. It may not be the absolute best Chinese in the city, but it is always hot, fresh, and flavorful. The family is wonderful and they don't pretend that they don't speak English. The portions are also very good. I get the 16 oz portions. There is plenty left over for lunch the next day or to reheat and finish off later. Why is it Chinese food only fills you up for an hour? My picks: Moo Shu Pork - sweet with good texture. The pork is tender and there is plenty of it. Spring rolls - perfection. Pot stickers - pan-fried is better Almond Ding - great for picky kids. Chicken and veggies in a mild sauce, and they can pick out what they don't like Take a pass on: Fried Rice. Tomato and Peppers with choice of meat.

After a long night (celebrating st pats) I wanted some greasy Chinese food new my place. Ordered online from Jade and have to say I am very disappointed. The hot and sour soup was weird, overly salty and nothing like I've ever tasted before.. seems like they just dumped soy sauce in the soup. General Tso's chicken was ok but seemed really old and not fresh, the Szechwan beef was bland. I do not recommend this place at all. Only good thing is you get 2 free eggrolls.
(1)Grace L.
Soggy tofu...
(2)Joe U.
It is a dump, more of a joke of a place, they don't even bother to clean the tables off at the end of the night. At least I knew the money I wasted on their food was going to a good education (two girls who took my order were doing their homework on a back table) or a good car (the owner's porsche was parked in front).
(1)bj f.
this is standard, dependable cantonese chinese food, like my family used to get back in the 70's, which i take out about two or three times a month. their prices are reasonable, they'll make substitutions and/or additions, like adding an extra veggie to a dish, without making a big deal about it. in fact, the owners are the nicest people i've ever dealt with, in any business. i love that they offer small portions as well as regular, cause who really wants to eat leftover chinese for three days? my standard order of a (all small) combo fried rice, combo chow mein and seafood combo with wide rice noodles on the side, is always dependable. their hong kong steak is great for meat enthusiasts, and when i order a small moo shu whatever, i ask for an extra wrap to make it an even four. their crab rangoon and butterfly shrimp appetizers are always good as well. there's nothing fancy or upscale or atmospheric about this place, but it offers such comfort food, chinese style, that it's become a sat. night tradition.
(4)Brandon C.
I've never actually been TO this place, but my old roommate recommended them for Chinese take-out one night and I haven't ordered from anyone else in the four years since. Delivery will take 45 minutes and a couple times I've had trouble getting through on the phone but I love their food and once in awhile they'll throw in some extra steamed rice or a soda if they take too long, which is a nice gesture. My only complaint is that their crab rangoon (which is VERY good) only comes as an order of 7, so if you're the only one eating it, it will likely be too much to make it worth it. Their portions are HUGE though, so you will definitely have leftovers. And everything is fantastic. General Tso's, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Fried Rice...everything.
(4)Lauren C.
I miss Jade East - I used to live right around the corner, so I definitely visited this place a few times a month. Their orange chicken and sesame chicken were both delicious and portions were big enough for 2 meals. Their lunch special was pretty good and cheap as well, and carryout orders are ready in 15 minutes or less. Oh Jade East, I miss you and your delicious Chinese food.
(4)Ben T.
Got potstickers, veggie lo mein and general tso chicken. Really unimpressed with everything. I'm not one to toss out uneaten food, but I'm tossing this one out. I would suggest looking elsewhere
(2)Dan N.
Eh, I guess the word that best sums up Jade East is "blah". Seeing that it was Chinese food, my roomates and I, of course, crushed through it, but to say that the food was average is a bit of a stretch. We ordered the orange chicken and the general tso's chicken, which I'm pretty sure was the EXACT same thing, minus a few pea pods added to the general tso's. The beef with broccoli was, by far, the best entree that we ordered, and it was pretty average. The chicken fried rice was good, but it seemed a little plain. The crab rangoon and egg rolls were also sub-par, as we all felt that they skimped heavily on the filling inside each item. One plus, however, was that they offered us free pot stickers with our order (I think b/c it was over $35). I didn't even have to ask, they just asked if we wanted them, which I thought was pretty cool. That said, the pot stickers were just OK--much like everything else we ordered from here. If you are in the LP area and looking for good chinese, I'd look elsewhere (i.e. House of Hunan was MUCH better than Jade East).
(2)Katherine R.
When we come here we order pot stickers, sesame chicken, and egg drop soup. It is very delicious and filling. When I have a lot of down time I think of Jade East whether I'm hungry or not. A lot of carry out comes my way with this place. The pot stickers here are the biggest in the city with planty of meat inside. It is just one of those places that become a comfort on a rainy, or snowed in kinda day. Its in a active area where theater and bars are lively at the heart of Lincon Park near DePaul Univ.
(4)Cayce M.
I'm actually waiting for delivery from JE as I write this. While I wouldn't say that this is the Charlie Trotter's of Chinese takeout, it is delectable! They're usually fairly quick if not down right prompt. The food is always super tasty, and cheap. I'm quite hungry and am salivating to the point of blindness (if that's even possible). I fear I can no longer write this review as I may chew my hand off soon. Food come. Now. Please.
(4)Tyler B.
Don't let some of the negative reviews fool you. I used to live across the street from Jade East and I didn't appreciate it until I moved to the South Loop. Even though I am closer to China Town I would give it up to have Jade East close again. They are the only Chinese place I've been to that only uses all white meat chicken which I love! I haven't been disappointed with really anything I've ordered. The staff is very friendly, portions are large and it's good for dine-in and carry out.
(5)Raquel W.
Food is amazing! I had the vegetable lo mein and it was the best Ive ever had and so was the veggie spring rolls !!!!! It was super fast and they gave me a free soda for ordering from Eat24. Iam so ordering from them again :)
(5)Ben G.
Yuck. Ordered 4 staples, Generals' Chicken, Shrimp Fried Rice, Pot Stickers and Spring Rolls and only the Fried Rice was worth eating. The rest went into the trash. Very disappointed, I suggest you look elsewhere.
(1)Omar S.
A-OK is a very accurate description. I came here yesterday during my lunch break between classes. Surprise, surprise: I'm a DePaul student. Anyway, I was craving Asian food and wanted something cheap. A quick "nearby" search on my Yelp app presented this place to me. I came around 12 and I was the only one inside. Decor was obviously old, but nice. The woman there quickly brought me a menu and was very polite. She obviously had limited English skills, but she was genial and still could explain the lunch specials. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken lunch. It was like $6.50 and I got the chicken, chicken fried rice, and an egg roll. The food came out fast and the dish was very full. The egg roll was good, but not great. The fried rice was very forgettable and had way too many bean sprouts. Kind of a disappointment. The chicken itself was good, but not great as well. Overall it was good, but not worth seeking out. If you're in the area and craving some decent Asian, go for it. If you're looking to be impressed, go somewhere else.
(3)CD S.
The food is AMAZING. They kind of messed up my order but it's partially my fault because my friend and I ordered separate checks. We got so much food for the price! Delivery fee is very minimal and speed of service is great! Will definitely order from them again!
(4)Lisa V.
The people here (Jean especially!) are so nice, it has the BEST wanton soup, and it is one of the only places you can order steamed Chinese vegetables that are not soft and mushy. The egg foo young (all kinds) and fried rices are also good! And if something in an order is wrong, they go out of their way to make it right. I love doing business with nice people who own a good business--why I like ordering from here. We moved almost two years ago from the immediate area and still can't order elsewhere!
(5)Jason O.
General TSO has nice balance of sweet and spicy. Breading is perfect with moist chicken inside and seasoned well. Chicken fried rice is not greasy and has good flavor. Crab Rangoon done right, crispy outside with right amount of filing an d flavor. Waitress super nice. Decor outdated but who cares as long as food is good. Would eat here again!
(4)Brandon H.
Just like Nathan, this place was normally out of my delivery range, but thanks to grubhub.com I was able to try out their food. Delivery was very quick, under 40 minutes. The Mongolian beef was actually spicy, but had a strange sweet flavor too it. The kung pao chicken was watered down, and rather bland. Egg rolls were a bit chalky, but had a good flavor. I'm not sure what the deal with the pot stickers was, but the flavor was off, we ended up throwing them out. We did get a free order of crab rangoon, which was fantastic. Overall nothing special.
(2)Darius K.
Food and service were good especially for the price. Lunch combos are only $5.95! BUT my egg roll kind of tasted like crap... just sayin'!
(3)Robert L.
Yay Jade East! This is a favorite place among my group of friends. Besides the good food, the family who runs it is beyond sweet. What is unsweet is the fact that my underage friends and I would come here for the BYOB (we would bring a 30 case of bushe light, and Bacardi). Looking back we must have been so obnoxious, but the family would bring us bowls of ice to cool our shitty beer and huge free platters of crab Rangoon as a thanks for our service. We had a couple birthday celebrations too, and they would take our cake, hide it in the back and put candles on it, and bring it out during dessert. AND the bathroom is super clean.
(5)Caroline C.
We ordered three appetizers (rangoons, pan-fried potstickers, crab spring rolls) and the sesame tofu. I can't say that any of it was good. The tofu was soggy and lacked that slight chewyness that makes it so good (in my opinion anyway). Yick. Delivery was fast though.
(1)Anonymous P.
I never go crazy over Chinese food so I can't give this place three stars. In general, it's a good, cheap place to go to. It's one of the few affordable Chinese restaurants in the area. Just be careful when you order for delivery though. They wrote my credit card number right on the bag (and I remember reading a review for some other restaurant doing the same).
(2)Chiara S.
Three out of five stars?! What the hell!!! I thought you were better than this, Jade... Don't judge a book by its cover... it's not a sit-down restaurant (since it previously burned down years and years ago, I heard...), it is a strictly take-out restaurant. Don't you be hatin' on Jade for not having chairs for your ass! The delicious food and reasonable prices make up for the lack of seating! The cost for delivery is super reasonable too, and quite fast, might I add. I ordered from that horrendous, Joy's Noodles (or whatever the hell) this afternoon since I decided to try something different (see my Joy review ;) ), and it made me sooooooo miss my Jade East!! Mmm... free Large fried rice with a $35 purchase. Score! That made the whole deal sweeter... mmm... Anyway... I know this sounds so weird since it is a Chinese restaurant, but I'm not a Crab Rangoon freak and their Crab Rangoon is so yummy... even if it is on the menu only to cater to Americans, oh well! Try the Won Ton soup, chicken and broccoli, Hunan chicken, Moo shu!!! MMMMM... it's all fab. Stay away from Joy's Noodles!!!!!! Ugh. Don't pass up Jade East!
(4)Gregory L.
this place is totally legit for chinese delivery. the chicken is high quality, super white. in fact, all the meat at jade east is great quality (the meat isn't scary like at some chinese places where you start wondering about its origin).
(5)K J.
Everything here is good, except their fried rice. It's light colored with carrots and peas, almost like Panda Express. Yuck. Their crab rangoon and hot and sour soup are my favorite.
(3)Lesley F.
Jade East has fantastic Chinese food and we love everyone who works there!!! Super helpful and friendly! Everything we've ordered has been great, and the egg rolls are the best I've had in Chicago.
(5)Kate C.
About a month ago, I ordered Jade East. It was great and super cheap! They delivered my order and it was really quick. Tonight I went to order it again for delivery. With the menu in-hand saying "No minimum for delivery" I was told there was a $20 minimum for delivery. Not sure I'm going to order from here again since they randomly charge for delivery!
(2)Deena D.
I simply don't like this place because I work across the street and order the same thing a couple times per week, and every time I went to pick it up,they would change the price a little higher. And I don't like the fact that if you use your credit card you get charged a $1.00.I feel like they scam people on prices, same problems w/ people I work w/ they had the same complaint. So I know its not just me!!!! I actually like the food, but won't go back anymore!!!
(1)Paula S.
This is definitely my go-to place for delivery. The food is AMAZING and so, so cheap - for $16 (dine-in OR delivery) you can get 2 entrees, crab rangoon, rice and egg rolls. It ends up being enough for at least 4 meals. The owners and staff are also the nicest people - they were so friendly and always asking if we needed anything. We felt like we were at someone's house for dinner when we ate there and it was actually super charming - they even asked us what we wanted to watch on the TV in there!

HAIR!!!!! I read the other reviews and figured this would be a good place to order from on a rainy Saturday night. After taking nearly an hour to get here we opened the greasy bag to find some disappointing looking Chinese food. If it wasn't raining we probably would have trashed the stuff and head out for a quick bite to eat, but we were stranded with the stuff. We attempted to eat burnt egg rolls, cream cheese (not crab) rangoon, and spring rolls that would have been fresh last spring. Now here's the best part, I found a HAIR fried into my sweet and sour chicken!!! I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, but if you have to please ask them to keep the HAIR on the side!

Jade East, what has happened to you? We've been ordering from Jade East for a few years and have been satisfied with their food and service. Today? WTF, Jade East? First, if your egg rolls are no good, I am not interested in your food. And today, Jade East's egg rolls were horrible! They obviously went to a different vendor, and the egg rolls were tasteless and had a horrible wrapper -- more like a spring roll than an egg roll. And no mustard with our egg rolls. How can anybody be expected to eat an egg roll without Chinese mustard? I can't, that's for sure. And they've also changed their crab rangoon. Probably the same vendor. Awful. Can something be more tasteless? This is. We probably should have just called it a day, but we went on to eat our entrees and were equally disappointed by the tofu as everything else. The chicken chow mien was edible. (To add insult to injury, the food was really late. Then the delivery guy stood in our foyer claiming that he "couldn't hear" the buzzer to allow him into the inside door and upstairs. The buzzer that allowed him in the outside door. The buzzer that everybody in the building and everybody on our freakin' street could hear. Lazy a** made my husband run down the stairs to get our food.) I called to tell them how disappointed we were, so that they can go back to their old vendor (and deal with their lazy ass delivery man) but they didn't answer the phone. Third strike. We're done with Jade East.

Ordered Jade East last night with a friend. The food hit my normal standards for their product but the delivery service was absolutely terrible. It took me one hour and fifty-eight minutes to get my food. My estimated time was 40 minutes. I called the restaurant after an hour and they said that the driver would be arriving in a minute or two. Twenty minutes later I get a call and my driver is apparently at Addison and Southport, not Clark and Waveland. He calls back ten minutes later and says that he is walking up to the door. I decide to go meet him downstairs except he isn't there. He shows up another ten minutes later in a car, honks at is me and my friend and shouts "delivery!" He gives us the food - which is now cold even though he says it's warm. We had cash that we were planning on tipping him with so we said $0 on the receipt. He gets mad, yells at us and DEMANDS a tip. So rude. Jade East may have lost my business.
(1)Elizabeth Z.
Had a hankering for Chinese and ordered from Jade. We got the dinner special - 2 entrees, huge chicken fried rice, 4 rangoons and 2 egg rolls for $20?! Is that the best deal in town or what?! And it was good, like really good. We picked up 15 min after we ordered and the food was still hot once we walked home. Will order from again soon!
(5)Jackie E.
Worst take-out food I've had in Chicago so far. Don't order the lo mein.
(2)Jason P.
Best Chinese Takeout in Chicago. And I eat alot of takeout . Also super fast delivery.
(5)Jenna S.
I was very in the mood for good quality chinese food with fast delivery and inexpensive prices. I didn't think I'd find that, but surprisingly did with Jade East! I ordered Sweet and Sour chicken (that came with fried rice and crab ragoons), and wonton soup. Everything I got was fantastic! The best part was that the estimated delivery time was 45-60 minutes and it came in less than 30 minutes! I also got free egg rolls for ordering with Eat24. Sadly, I ordered an extra side of veggies and got a takeout box full of tofu? They also forgot the 2 crab ragoons that were supposed to come with the meal. I would definitely recommend Jade East!
(4)Jess Z.
I think we can all agree that Chicago is a Chinese Food wasteland. I may be used to New York Cities late night deliveries and Chinatown, with it's never ending options but I never expected to go months on end without decent General Tso's when I moved to Chicago. I'd lost hope until Jade East. Also, dumplings. CHICAGO, where are the dumplings?! The dinner for two is an enormous amount of food It's more than enough for 2 meals for each person, which is insane. $16 gets you chicken fried rice, 4 crab Rangoon, 2 egg rolls and 2 entrees. Also delicious: Honey Garlic chicken, Hung Sue, chicken pot stickers, General Tso's and all things fried tofu related. Five stars for being delicious, infinite stars for the fact that my 6 piece order of chicken pot stickers came with 8, they sent an extra egg roll for no apparent reason other than being awesome, and they tossed in cookies. Also can I mention how incredibly difficult it is to find a Chinese Restaurant that puts chicken in things instead of pork? Chicken wontons, pot stickers and eggrolls? Yes.

I didn't see the best reviews for this place but hey, I live right next door. I love the food! The facility is a bit 'janky' inside and I would NOT recommend coming here to dine-in. But, this place definitely is your take-out, dinner & a movie at home kind of food. Their honey garlic chicken is my absolutely favorite and I always order their fried rice. They seem to throw in an egg roll or two crab ragoos with each order but don't give you any sauce or plastic-wear. I would order on grub-hub or through their website because they don't understand english well.
(4)Jeffrey V.
Terrible service and ridiculously slow delivery. We live probably 5 minutes from the restaurant and we have had multiple time where they have taken over an hour and a half, with the most recent time being 2 hours. When we have called to ask what is going on and where our food is, the service is very rude and not helpful in the slightest. I would not recommend ordering from this place.

Since I can remember, when at my parents' place on a Saturday night, Chinese food is on the table. For many years, the Chinese food of choice has been from Jade East. It's exactly what I expect from Americanized Chinese food, with well above average customer service (which is probably in part from the number of years that they've enjoyed our family's business). They forgot our mu shu pancakes on a recent order that we picked up, and without our calling them, they realized the error and showed up at our house with the pancakes and some extra I'm-sorry egg rolls. Reliable, well priced, and tasty! Glad they're in the neighborhood.

Jade East is my go to chinese delivery after trying out just a few others and being generally disappointed in the other ones that either change the menu or preparation of items, food is inedible or it's just too damn expensive. I have come to realize that this is the most consistent and reasonably priced option that delivers to me in Logan Square. First of all, having the smaller portion size available for around five bucks is a good start. They also delivery quickly and tend to throw in something extra in there, be it an egg roll (they're ok if eaten hot like most fried things) and today I also got 2 almond cookies along with my fortune cookies. Thanks! Also, it appears that they are using decent quality ingredients; if I do order chicken (trying to eat less meat) it doesn't look like mystery meat... today I got pretty standard rainy day fare....shrimp fried rice (did need a little soy sauce but like that I get to choose how salty to make it), chicken and string beans (crunchy beans, good mushrooms, large pieces of onion and sauce was flavorful) and egg drop soup (to the point, plain, hot and comforting). Nothing too fancy, I just crave that soup sometimes; like today as I'm nursing a cold, as plain as it is just hits the spot, and it's low WW points (ha ha...to make up for the fried rice I guess). So, for 3 items and delivery it was $17.30 all the way to Logan....$21 with tip....that's cheap folks, I have 3 or 4 meals now... Also, I never feel sick after eating this food and i am pretty sensitive in the stomach and MSG makes me feel like I swallowed a balloon so that says something I suppose too, so I will keep ordering this when I have a craving!
(3)Mike K.
I am a huge fan of chinese food, but finding the right place where you get quality foodfor the right price has been difficult after moving to the Lakeview/Lincoln Park area. I finally fell upon Jade's one day...and it was a day I wasparticularly craving a certain meal and certain items and I wanted my way....and thatsjust what I got. They gave me crab rangoon...actual full and great-tasting crab rangoon and not just 2 or 3, but 6 for a great cheap price. The noodles were excellent and they made everything i wanted even with my weird directions and suggestions. They even gave me extra drinks! Andmight I add they delivered it fast and hot and for an extremely reasonable price. Absolutely my favorite place these days!
(5)Allison B.
The food is delicious and the staff is very friendly! Their meals for 2 are a great value and plenty of food to feed 2 people for at least a few meals. The sweet and sour chicken is my favorite and is so delicious! I've only gotten take out and have never eaten in the restaurant. It seems like it is popular for take out. Jade East has consistently good, high quality food.
(4)David K.
I've seen some negative reviews of this and other Chinese restaurants lament that the food served was not authentically Chinese. But I wonder how many of us have grown up eating authentic Chinese food. This is pretty much your run-of-the-mill Americanized Chinese restaurant serving the standard dishes. They have very good vegetable eggrolls, tomato and green pepper beef, spicy garlic chicken, and Szechuan beef. The owners are friendly and inviting. The decor is nothing stellar, but the food is pretty solid.
(4)Sharon S.
My parents own an American Chinese restaurant and I was in withdrawal. I decided to try Jade East and was quite disappointed. I ordered wonton egg drop soup, shrimp lo mein, jade tofu, and received 2 egg rolls. The only decent thing was the egg drop soup but that looked a little brown and that should not be the color of egg drop soup. The wontons were mushy, the meat didn't taste fresh. The shrimp lo mein had more vegetables than noodles. The sauce for the tofu was very watery. Can't seem to find any decent Chinese places in Chicago unless you're down in Chinatown. The restaurant was also really hot inside and for being 90 degrees outside, that's not where you want to be.
(1)Vanessa F.
Scene: A hungry DePaul student, classes solid from 9:40 to 2:30, no time for lunch. No breakfast was consumed. Intense starvation and craving for something heavy, greasy, cheap. Something that will get me all the way to bedtime. Dominick's salad bar is not going to cut it this time. Burrito joint...? Not feeling it. McDonald's? Definitely not. Chinese Food..? Yes. I love Chinese food, while I prefer the authentic and experimental, I have a soft spot for the gloppy and greasy. I'm also attempting veganism. Not sure if it was vegan but the General Tofu was awesome. Hit the spot. Halfway through a huge portion later, I was appropriately sick. Expected, no stars off. The only negative point (is this fair?) is that the dining room was empty. It didn't even smell like a restaurant. And I felt awkward. Oh well. Service was good and they didn't charge me the advertised $1 for credit card fees (I just tipped extra...). I'll be back the next time I'm craving and stuck at school, but Chinatown or Friendship if I have time.

First off.. I was very surprised to see so many negative reviews for this place. I've lived in the city for over 3 years now and have tried countless places for chinese food. Jade East is by far my favorite. The food is great (no, its not authentic chinese, but it's fantastic, greasy americanized chinese food). The people that work here are always very attentive. One time I called and got their answering machine. They called me back within 5 minutes (and I didnt leave a message) wanting to see if I still wanted to place an order. So cute! I have tried many things on their menu.. but a few of my favorites are below: Crab Rangoon. You must get it. They are large pieces (I think you get like 6 to an order) and always seem to be just out of the fryer hot, even if I get it delivered. There is a good portion of crab meat in them.. not just cream cheese like so many other places Shrimp Fried Rice. Fried rice in general is one of my favorite things about getting chinese food, and they do it just right. I've tried all of their kinds, but I think the shrimp is my favorite. They do not skimp on the amount of shrimp at all, the rice is cooked perfectly and there is an perfect proportion of eggs/scallions/etc in the mixture. General Tsao's chicken. If you want breaded, deep fried chicken.. this is the way to go. Order the lunch combo (you can do so after lunch time for only $1 more). You'll be eating for days. I've also heard the shakes/smoothies are really good. Not my thing, but my friends tend to love them. My only gripe is that they don't open until 4 on Saturdays and Sundays, and sometimes I will literally sit on my couch and wait until it hits 4pm on the dot so I can order food. I thought about subtracting a star for this.. but it's not their fault that I crave Chinese food a little earlier than this on the weekends. Also.. the website says $20 delivery minimum and so does grubhub. If you call to place an order, they don't have a minimum, so you're not forced to order 8 meals worth of food just to get it delivered :)
(5)Ryan L.
Ordered from here because for some reason it's impossible to find General Tso's tofu anywhere in this city. So I was excited! And? Wowee! Absolute worst tofu I've ever had! Here's a tip: drain your tofu before you cook it. That way, it won't taste like, you know...water tofu. I'm sure your sauces are great, but you can't taste them when they're so watered down. I had to add some sauce I had on hand (got delivery, btw). For what it's worth, we had the General Tso's tofu and Sesame tofu. Bleh.
(1)Joanne C.
I have been going to Jade East for over 12 years and I love it. Even when I moved away and tried every chinese place in my hood, I now go back to Jade East. Because when I order the sesame chicken that I loved last month, I get the same dish when I order it this month. That doesn't always happen at other places. But here, it is the same quality chicken used, same flavor profile. I appreciate that I can do half orders here as well. And the dinner for two is an amazing deal - even if you pay extra to substitute dishes for what you really want. I am sad no one eats in the dining room - so I hope everyone continues to support this place through carry out!

Yuck. Ordered 4 staples, Generals' Chicken, Shrimp Fried Rice, Pot Stickers and Spring Rolls and only the Fried Rice was worth eating. The rest went into the trash. Very disappointed, I suggest you look elsewhere.

HAIR!!!!! I read the other reviews and figured this would be a good place to order from on a rainy Saturday night. After taking nearly an hour to get here we opened the greasy bag to find some disappointing looking Chinese food.

(1)Dan N.

Bleh.

(3)Mike S.
had some food delivered from here the other night. i am a bit biased since i live near satay and dine there frequently. with that said i think jade's entrees held up. i got the kung pao chicken with white rice. the portion was very generous - larger than satay and cheaper. the apppetizers were good - crab triangles, egg rolls. i need to eat here again without thinking about satay. i was pleased with everything i ordered - will definately eat again soon. it warmed up nicely for leftovers!!
(4)David T.
(1)Vinny M.
(5)Slugs A.
(3)Jen A.
(4)Liz L.
(1)Meagan L.
(2)Jennifer P.

(3)Yo U.

(4)Tiffany G.
(4)Mookie L.
(1)Lesley F.
(1)bj f.
this is standard, dependable cantonese chinese food, like my family used to get back in the 70's, which i take out about two or three times a month. their prices are reasonable, they'll make substitutions and/or additions, like adding an extra veggie to a dish, without making a big deal about it. in fact, the owners are the nicest people i've ever dealt with, in any business. i love that they offer small portions as well as regular, cause who really wants to eat leftover chinese for three days? my standard order of a (all small) combo fried rice, combo chow mein and seafood combo with wide rice noodles on the side, is always dependable. their hong kong steak is great for meat enthusiasts, and when i order a small moo shu whatever, i ask for an extra wrap to make it an even four. their crab rangoon and butterfly shrimp appetizers are always good as well. there's nothing fancy or upscale or atmospheric about this place, but it offers such comfort food, chinese style, that it's become a sat. night tradition.
(3)DF G.
(2)Robert L.
