Pretty decent chinese food up in viet town. Coming from Chinatown, this place was a pleasant surprise. I liked their salt and pepper shrimp, and everything else was pretty good too.

One of the best Chinese restaurant in Argyle. One of those 'hole in the wall' because everybody not from the area only talk about Tank, Ba Le and Sun Wah. The atmosphere is not the 'nicest' but this is where you eat good food. Can't compare this to Sun-Wah (known for their Chinese BBQ) because it's not the same category.

If you're looking for a good meal, this is the place. If you're looking for ambience with personal customer service, this isn't the best place for you. Great mom and pops restaurant with a great mix of both authentic as well as more westernized items. I recommend... most items on the menu lol.

One of the cheapest and best place for Chinese cuisine. I absolutely love everything there. My favorite is salt and pepper cuttlefish, salt and pepper fish over rice, beef and broccoli chow fun, combination fried rice.

Used to eat here on a weekly basis with the fam. All you need to know is that the Japanese roasted tofu, salt and pepper fish, and sizzling beef are the sh*t. When my bros and I come here we get this exact order. More than enough food to put us in a food coma. The Bo Luc Lac is pretty good to, good cuts of meat and flavorful.

Another hole-in-the-wall restaurant with its Chinese and English names having zero correlation! Honeymoon Café is a Cantonese, family-run restaurant. The interior is far from pretty. There are four large, circle tables and three medium, rectangle tables. The walls are decorated with pop-up art ranging from Disney characters to scenic landscapes. Extra chairs are stacked and filed along the tables. Despite how none of these mesh, the food is a bomb. On a summery, Wednesday evening, the five of us ordered the family dinner for six: crab meat and fish stripe soup, salt and pepper shrimp, diced beef in black and green pepper, salt and pepper Japanese tofu, baby clams in black bean sauce, and fish fillet with Chinese broccoli. These standard Cantonese entrée names are a mouthful but so were the food. I was stuffing my face with the least amount of etiquette imaginable. I was particularly fond of the Japanese tofu and diced beef. The Japanese tofu was crispy on the outside and custard-like in the center. Each piece was evenly fried to golden brown and lightly seasoned and salted. Everybody was equally marveled by this entrée. The diced beef was incredibly tender and juicy. My amateur taste buds would like to think those were actually diced steak. Portions were generous and we had leftovers to take home. Service was surprisingly good even though they only have one waiter. Prices are reasonable. The whole meal came to $55 before tip. In other words, it was less than $15 per person. I will be back!

This place is authentic Chinese. It's very flavorful and inexpensive. My plan is to try everything on the menu. The ladies barely speak English, but it doesn't matter! The food is worth it.

I've come here several times and this place can knock out many of the Chinese Restaurants in Chinatown. Love their food, so tasty and flavorful! There is street parking for which you have pay the meter. Weekdays, better to find parking, weekends harder. But haven't had too much of a problem. The restaurant is very small. I wanna say they have about 7 or 8 tables. All large round tables with the circle server in the middle. Nothing fancy or special about the decor or the layout of the restaurant. When you walk in, there's the small cash register counter on your left. They make their fresh fruit smoothies here too, which I highly recommend. Had the Avocado smoothie with tapioca, always my favorite! It was only two of us and we were sat at large round table cause that's all they had, but didn't bother me at, especially since we order a ton a food! There was only one lady working the front. She took orders, made smoothies, took phone orders, waited tables, and bussed tables! She was like the loony cartoon character Bugs Bunny playing baseball by himself! Needless to say, don't expect great service here, but I take great food over mediocre service anytime. I give her respect cause it didnt look easy handling everything like she did. I ordered the steamed oysters, fish filet with bitter melon in black bean sauce, salt and pepper soft shell crab, ginger onion lobster, and the avocado smoothie with tapioca. Steamed oysters were huge and steamed to perfection. The fish filet was seasoned beautifully and I loved the contrast of the bitter melon in it. Soft shell crab was lightly battered, fried, and seasoned with chunks of garlic and sliced jalapeños. Ginger onion lobster....oh....my....god.. whole lobster cut into smaller pieces sauteed with, well ginger and onion. Everything was delish! This place was packed given it being a Wednesday afternoon. During the course of my meal, there was probably at least 10 people coming in to order their lunchbox special. The lunch menu was very extensive and it was very affordable. Ranges from $4.95 to $5.50. You can have it put over steamed white rice, lo mein, pan fried wide rice noodles, or pan fried egg noodles. Wish I lived closer, I could order just about everyday. I highly recommend this place for authentic chinese food. They are reasonably price and gives you a ton of food. Very flavorful and cooked perfectly. This place tops some restaurants I had in Chinatown. Just don't expect great service here but understand they are swamped and only one person working the front.

Honeymoon Cafe is exactly what I expected when I walked in with a friend. It's a family-run place that isn't fancy or big, but it gets the job done and delivers quality food and service. The atmosphere is pretty bland, it's basically a room filled with big round living room tables, but the service is friendly and attentive. The food is great. They have a ton of options for meats, seafoods, and veggies. There were so many options to choose from it was hard to pick just two. It is also pretty cheap, with many items under $10 each. For the portion size and quality, it is definitely worth it. I was skeptical picking a place so close to the red line, but I'm glad I walked into Honeymoon. The quiet, tiny, yet humble atmosphere and great food make for a great dining experience. Atmosphere: 7/10 Service: 8.5/10 Food: 8.5/10

A hole in the wall family-owned restaurant right off the Argyle red line. Our family has been eating here for years and we've never had a problem. I always get the fish fillet chow mein.

They're always busy- especially weekend. their dishes/appetizers are tasty. japanese jalapeno-tufu is friends' and I's favorite. beef stir-fried chinese broccoli over white-flat noodle is dilicious. My 20mn orders over phone ended up 45mn instead- that cost them a star. don't believe me- go try, at least once.

The crab Rangoon is that mystery crab Rangoon type where it is pre-bought frozen ~ the cream cheese taste like sugar and fake imitation crab they were pretty disgusting. Id keep this for when you're very very very hung over and have nowhere else to go otherwise I would pass this one by.

I was referred here by a good friend of mine who is Chinese. I told him I was not a fan of the saucy "Americanized" Chinese dishes I get so many places and have all but given up on Chinese Food in the USA. He sent me here. It was good. Egg rolls were great. Salt and pepper chicken and Bo Luc Lac(diced beef with pepper), which is actually Vietnamese, were both very good.

The older servers are not in the mood to be friendly. However, the younger ones are on it! Great portions for an a lunch menu that goes well into the night. Most dishes run $5.

This place is literally a 'hole-in-the-wall' but they serve great food! Their bathroom is also their tool shed. Enough for the decor. I had my two favorite dishes, baby peapod leaves in garlic sauce and salt & pepper Japanese tofu done perfectly. I then tried their beef with Chinese broccoli with pan fried noodles and the noodles were wonderfully crispy and broccoli done just right but the beef lacked flavor. The last dish was filet of fish with satay sauce and that was done well. If you on Argyle, you have to stop in. They serve smoothies too, but I didn't try it here so I can't judge.

Best Chinese food in the Argyle vicinity, hands down. Note that I said the best *food.* If you want a *restaurant* or *dining* experience, insofar as that includes decor and obsequious American-style ass-kissing service, you will get exactly zero of that here. The 5 stars are for the food, alone. (And that's what they aspire to, alone.) Excellent: Salt n pepper anything. (Btw, if you order shrimp in this style, it will come with shell & head on. It is delectably crisp and savory and is supposed to come that way.) Green veg are fresh and well-executed. Haven't tried everything on the menu, but everything so far has been tasty and I have no reason to expect anything different from future orders. Lastly -- If you are so provincial and unwilling to grasp that there are a variety of distinct tofu preparations, including the crispy-on-the-outside, custardy-on-the-inside Japanese tofu dishes, then you have no business giving this business 1 star. Especially so if you are chagrined that your mushrooms turn out to be "noodles that are chewy and fishy-tasting with creepy sprouts at the end of them." Enoki. Those are enoki mushrooms.

Strictly for the delivery that was 20 minutes later than the hour 30 quoted on a Saturday night during the Polar Vortex. Food container on top was room temperature but stuff on the bottom was warmish. Considering it's 10 degrees out, I'm okay with it. Again, it's AntarDitka 2014. Seriously, the food was so delicious, I don't care how cold or luke warm the food was, it was friggin' amazeballs!! Fresh seafood and vegetables plus duck tongue, yes DUCK TONGUE!! Everything had perfect spice and flavor. The clams with black bean sauce was finger licking good. I can't stop eating the salt and pepper shrimp. Yeah, I eat the heads. Don't judge me. Try them yourself. You won't regret it. Venture out in the cold or if you live within 2.5 miles, they deliver!!! You're welcome.

I tried this place for the first time today (Beef & Snow peas for carry-out, which was $10.95). The actual restaurant is nothing fancy, but definitely kept nice and clean. When I went to pick up my food, I noticed that they had smoothies on the menu, so I ordered one (coconut/pineapple for $4). When they gave me the package of food, I was surprised at how heavy it was! They DO give you a lot of food, which is awesome because now I have lunch AND dinner. The food was nice and warm & tasted good (I would say above average). The smoothie was good too (about average). I'm kicking myself now for not trying the avocado smoothie instead (especially now that I've learned it has tapioca in it!), but there WILL be a next time! Lastly, the lady who processed the order (and made my smoothie) was very nice. In summary: Good food, and lots of it, with a pleasant staff. Thumbs up!

I've passed by Honeymoon Cafe numerous times and always consider dining here, but never have. Sun Wah has such a great reputation and easy parking right outside for take-out, so I never made the effort. After reading so many positive reviews, I decided to FINALLY try this place out last night. I got a to-go order of the S&P Pork Chops and Ton Choy. Service was friendly over the phone and my food was ready-to-go when I arrived 15 minutes later. The restaurant itself is super small - very divey/hole-in-the wall. Not fancy, as the other reviews say. Well, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and flavor of the food. I had always been disappointed with the vegetable entrees at Sun Wah - but not at Honeymoon Cafe. IT WAS THE MOST SPECTACULAR TON CHOY I'VE EVER HAD. Even my white-bread husband loved it - and he never comments on veggies. He even went as far as to say that he'll eat at Honeymoon Cafe any day, even though he doesn't really like Chinese food all that much. The S&P Pork Chops were perfectly crisp, tender on the outside and perfectly spiced with jalapenos. I can't wait to return and try some of the other dishes! I've found my go-to cantonese restaurant in the northside! WOOHOO!!

4 stars for the food- The food is great! It's no wonder they are always so busy, I haven't had a bad dish here. My favs: japanese style fried tofu, baby pea tips, pepper steak, and their fried rice. (everything else was also tasty, these are just a few that I always order) Now the service, I'd give it 3 stars, maybe 2 on bad days. It's usually run by 1 person in front who is handling phone orders, dine in, and a million other things. Some days they can be slow and you will get the attention you need, but the food is good so I'm willing to work with that. This is definitely the best place to get chinese from if your in the North Chicago area, with very affordable prices too. Now if I can find a place like this closer to home, that'd be great!

The food took an hour and half to reach me (I live 1.2 miles away) it was mediocre and part of the delivery was missing. When I called to inquire about it, the first person hung up on me and the second person could not give me a resolution to the missing item. First and last time ordering from them.

WOW, really disappointed and I have no idea how this is a 4 star place. Hubby and I ordered take out and I almost felt it was inedible. Yes, the place is cheap but sweet lord it would be helpful to know what you are eating regardless of the price. Sweet and sour chicken was like eating rubber. Egg rolls were filled with this brown mystery meat, didn't even eat it. White rice was cooked well. Will not be back. There are so many better asian places in this area I feel like Yelp really is wrong on this one...

If you're looking for spectacular service, this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for great food and a good price, you've come to the right spot. My boyfriend and I come here once every couple of months. There's not much to look at inside, and comfort isn't really their specialty, but their food is something special. Meals are done family style with all 6 of their dining tables having a lazy Susan. Each plate is around $8-$9, but truly, you can share a dish between two people for less than $10! My favorite is the salt and pepper chicken. It's like crack. Can't get enough of it! Don't come here if you're in a rush. It usually takes us 20 minutes to get our check after we stacked our plates to make it obvious that we're ready to go. I recommend this place to everyone who's looking for good food at a great price that aren't in a rush.

Hmm, not sure why my experience was so different from the stellar reviews. Came in for takeout and got the fish with eggplant rice noodles. It was a quick stir-fry dish, but it took over 20min to be ready. The eggplant was the only good thing...flavorful & soft. The rice noodles were clumped and bland and greasy, the fish was so oversalted I wondered how old it was that they had to completely mask its flavors. I almost never leave food unfinished, but I got so sick halfway through this I chucked the rest into the trashcan. I'll stick with my regulars in Argyle.

Honeymoon Cafe is a small, unassuming restaurant in Argyle, and I know those tiny Chinese restaurants with the drool-inducing pictures of menu items taped to the windows can be a crapshoot, but this place is the real deal Holyfield. I have a three-pronged test which has been pretty reliable for me when dining at many small Asian restaurants, which includes (1) the restaurant must have an awkward name, (2) the restaurant's interior must not be decorated nicely, and (3) the staff should probably be rude. When these factors are combined, for some strange celestial reason, the food is usually bomb. The name of this place is kinda awkward, and when we stepped inside I saw that it was not pretty at all - so far, so good. We sat down and looked at the menu, but something was wrong. A waitress came up and asked us if we were ready to order, and when we weren't, she smiled and gave us more time. Ruh-roh. Then she came back a few minutes later and answered some of our questions about menu items we were considering. Friendly service was not something I was expecting, but it was a nice surprise. The food came out and it was delicious. We had the salt and pepper chicken, the baby pea tips, and another dish that I can't recall at the moment. We left full and satisfied, with leftovers to take home. In addition, the bill didn't burn a hole in our wallets. I will be back when I'm hungry and in the Argyle area fo' sho'.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
