Great food and speedy delivery! I prefer to get it delivered - last time we dined in the staff were all yelling at eachother and fighting. We we also the only customers sitting in the flourescent pink dining room.

I really enjoyed the 90s feel of the walls (it was PINK) and I truly enjoy supporting small, family owned businesses. Their lunch special is SO affordable and definitely worth it- for 5.25 you get a huge "boat" shaped plate with rice, an egg roll, and a main course- plus fortune cookies. They have a variety of choices and the food is filling- and enough for leftovers. Their bubbleshakes are really yummy! They definitely taste fruity and are a good blend (but I don't think they use powder like another bubble tea place does). Fast and really friendly service!

This is my go to place for Chinese delivery. The food is always great, the delivery time isn't too bad for the most part. I can only remember once or twice thinking that it had been longer than the estimated time. The food is always hot when it arrives and is very consistent. The prices are very reasonable and they'll usually throw in an extra side or entree with your food. I won't be ordering from anywhere else.

bubble teas are good, egg rolls are good, mongolian beef and fried rice is good. but never EVER get the pad thai wooshen. absolutely horrible. no flavor, its just plain noodles with huge chunks of carrot and lettuce.

So glad I found this place! Very good food and very reasonably priced. Bubble teas are great, portions are definitely for sharing, staff is courteous and quick. I have a fondness for the Walnut Chicken and just about all of their apps.

There are a few selections that are great. The Japanese two mushroom tofu, the salt/pepper smelts, the pineapple fried rice but most of all the bubble shakes! Lychee/watermelon Mango Strawberry/Banana

This place is okay. I ordered pick up they told me 20 minutes but it ended up being like 45 minutes. Their fortune cookies shouldn't even be given with the meal haha. The orange chicken was the only good thing I got from the order. Everything else was basic. The crab Rangoon's were terrible and the sweet and sour sauce tasted like horse radish.

Wow. Some of these reviews for Eng's are brutal! My rating is based on our experience with delivery. The key word is consistent. Over the course of the past year since moving to West Rogers Park, we have ordered from this place around ten times. The food has always been delivered in a timely manner and everything is always hot, cooked perfectly and delicious. We highly recommend the Chicken Fried Rice, Vegetable Egg Rolls, Crab Ragoon, Mongolian Beef, General Tso's Chicken and Orange Chicken. Eng's always satisfies us. xoxo
I'd rate Eng's at about 3.5 stars for a place for a cheap, casual Asian meal. We dropped in for a family meal, and found they have a massive menu - Cantonese, Mandarin, Thai, Vietnamese, and Korean style offerings, as well as an extensive bubble tea menu. The place is basically an unhyped version of Joy Yee Noodle. The servings are large, decent tasting (a couple dishes we had were slightly salty), and a great value. $80 fed a party of 6, including a couple of mango bubble teas. The dining room is plain, large, and very casual. It's also BYOB with no corkage. We tried between us: Salty pepper squid Chicken chow mein Beef with Chinese broccoli Chicken eggplant casserole Korean stonepot bowl Whole red snapper We wouldn't hesitate to try again some time for a cheap eats sort of outing. Service was also ok for our outing, though they never refilled water, but I also had my beer.

Order some food to be delivered. The shrimp fried rice was good. But the big turn off was that the shrimp was not cleaned up properly. You could see the black stuff (usually is poop) from the shrimp. Had to clean it myself. Probably won't be ordering again. So heads up everyone.

Love this restaurant, mainly due to the affordability and food. The service is nothing to write home about, but it's definitely not bad. I'd give the service a B or B- grade, only because the servers seem indifferent and could crack a smile and seem friendlier. Again, the service is decent but could improve. The appetizers are delicious and come out fast. The bubble teas are an A+ at this place...fresh fruit is displayed, which they use in the bubble teas. They have many great flavors, but I love the mango or mango combination bubble tea. Their orange chicken is awesome and their General Tso meal is phenomenal. Crab rangoon is great and the portion is generous. Great prices on everything and a lunch special that works on a budget! It's definitely in between fast food and fine dining in terms of layout and overall delivery of cuisine, but it's not exactly marketed as a "Big Bowl" or a "PF Chang's" either. Definitely worth giving a try if your taste buds enjoy Chinese food, and most likely better than any carryout you've tried in the area.

Just had the lunch special was not bad. The great thing was that most places only do lunch specials on weekdays but they let me get it on a Sunday! For $5.25 I got a big serving of orange chicken shrimp fried rice, an egg roll and soup. The soup wasn't great but I'm not a fan of Chinese soups to begin with. The food was pretty standard nothing special but for its price and portion its great deal especially for lunch!

Went here with my mom for (the day before) Mother's Day. The service was excellent, but that may have in part been because the place was empty. Completely empty. This was on a Saturday night. We ordered beef fried rice, Korean Chicken dumplings, and some broccoli chicken. Everything tasted great, and they even accommodated my mom's gluten free needs. They also have bubble tea! The mango lychee flavor was delicious. Honestly, I love this place. Lots of good food at a pretty low price!

Last year I stopped by for lunch and saw a worker smoking in the kitchen. Unsanitary but I let it pass. Recently Ordered carry out beef fried rice from this place and was greeted by a foot long dental floss on my fork. DISGUSTING! And in the garbage can my food went. Makes you wonder what's going on behind the wall in that kitchen. This place just needs a surprise inspection from the health department. Anyway I'm done with Engs!

I wanted to like this place, I really did. It's walking distance from my house and I love American Chinese food, but the other day I ordered a coconut smoothie to split with my boyfriend, and it tasted like lunch meat! When I requested either a refund or a new smoothie, I was denied! I will not be going back and I strongly urge you not to order the coconut smoothie from this place! Yuck.

Hopefully you won't make the same mistake I did. This restaurant has a great menu and great prices. To be fair there was nothing wrong with the food quality. No cat, no rat, no hairs, no fly in my soup. The problem is the most lack lustre taste. I had the Kung Pao Chicken, Salt & Pepper Shrimp, Thai Fried Rice and Dried Beef. How can you mess up fried rice? There were no flavours other than salt, soy and oil. Come on! Save yourself the disappointment. There must be better Chinese food nearby.

Food is good, I have to give them that but the service will certainly ruin the experience especially if you order for delivery. Honestly, you might be better going to the next place near you.

I have a love hate relationship with Eng's. At present the only two items I would consider purchasing here (in the future) would be pot stickers and bubble tea. Many times I think they are just okay and other times I can't believe how good the food is and every single time I wonder why the service is not consistent. One of the daughters of the company, she's got to be in HS or college, this one gal does a great job. Her co-workers or siblings do not do as close a job in giving good customer service. If it's the younger male that is helping you, a tall and lanky fellow which looks aloof, this dude is lazy. Never packs food for you, instead will hand you a container and bags to do the work yourself. Also he is not specific to details, I've had to return dishes because it wasn't what I ordered. My last visit was for catering over the summer and since then have not returned. I spent about four Benji's on food for an anniversary party for family. Despite making plans and pricing with an owner weeks in advance, when the time came I was over charged and charged additional for appetizers I was told (earlier) I would receive complimentary. Also was told there would be no delivery charge and then was called back and told that the driver feels he needs to be compensated. Strange, the delivery is done in house, so why would I need to be consulted with that??? Whatever the F that means. Idiotic. All of these changes were placed on me on the date of the event, so it left me no time to call someone else for catering. With hours before the event and having specified a time for the food to be delivered, the driver drops it off a full three hours early. WTF! Thank goodness I had family nearby to help out, we had to pack the kitchen full of food and keep it like a sauna to keep the food from A) going bad in the sun B) being overcooked or over warmed C) being wilted, soggy and looking like buffet food which sits under heat lamps all afternoon. P.s. we were not given any accessories to aid in keeping the food warm nor did the delivery guy care to come back later at the specified time. Let's not forget that they gave a bag full of more than 100 packets of soy, sweet & sour sauce and hot mustard. What a waste, I have this bag of sauces at home and do not know what to do with them. In striving to be more conscious of waste, it'd be more prudent for them to give you a bottle of the different sauces. FYI Eng management; but since this is Chicago and not the West coast where people care more about such details. I figure they won't care. Disappointing. Inadequate. Rankled with their service. Deceived. Not trustworthy. A few details / keywords to help out in their description.

Their Lychee Mango smoothie tasted great. It was very similar to the Mango Passion Fruit in Joy Yees. The fried siomai was kind of bland. It didn't look like there were any fresh ingredients (or meat) in the inside. As for me, the Beef with Brocolli was more towards the sweet side, which I didn't like. The spicy wings had too much chili powder. It made me sneeze as soon as I took a bite. The good side to what I ate was the Wonton Soup. It came in a rather small bowl, but it came with a generous amount of Wontons. Plus, the broth was great. Friendly employers and casual environment. I would recommend their smoothies, but not so much on the food.

I came here for their bubble tea from my friends. The lady at the cashier was extremely friendly. I honestly did not know what to expect of their bubble tea. However, I was extremely happy with what I got. I got mango & lychee freeze with tapioca. They make the smoothies from real fruit and not powder. The pricing of the drinks are so cheap compared to other places too. Overall, I loved my drink!

We order delivery (to Evanston) from Eng's once every month or two. While it's not the best Chinese food I've ever had, it's certainly a reliable delivery place. The people on the phone are great, the delivery guy is always very friendly and polite, and the food is always hot. I've sampled a few things from here, most of which are good- though nothing out of the ordinary. The General Tso chicken and sesame chicken are essentially the same- except one has sesame seeds. The honey walnut shrimp are good, but sort of soggy. The boyfriend really likes their fried rice and garlic chicken, too. I love that they offer half portions- even the half portions are huge, and I can usually finish only half of one! I always have leftovers for the next day. I'm not a fan of their egg rolls- they're the thick, lumpy-skinned variety rather than the thin, smooth-skinned crispy variety, but it's a minor detail. The smoothies and bubble teas are on a par with Joy Yee, and I've had some awesome strawberry and lychee smoothies from them. All in all, reliable, tasty (albeit typical) Chinese takeout.

Despite some of the bad reviews we tried it out for lunch and were very pleasantly surprised. The bubble drinks were yummy and the food was well made and tasty. I'm glad they had the prerequisite Sriracha at the table because most Asian restaurant's spicy food is never spicy enough for me. The portions were huge. We had enough left over for an entire meal for a family of five! Even the lunch specials were large and people were taking home leftovers. They have a wide selection of dishes and the pictures ate deceiving: they're much smaller than the actual dishes.

It was a while ago, but in retrospect, Eng's was not a very stellar place. The hot and sour soup was way too spicy. The onion pancakes were pretty stiff. The mapo tofu was not the "correct" flavor, and came in unreasonably large portions. I came with some high expectations, but was just kind of disappointed. Sorry!

I ordered the sesame chicken with fried rice and a thai iced tea. The food was very fresh, but took a very long time (we ordered to go). Sure I've had better, but I would definitely come back here! Unfortunately I didn't get to taste the thai iced tea because on our way home it spilled all over the car, NICE! Lol.

My most recent order from Eng's was a bit hit-or-miss. It included General Tso's chicken, vegetable fried rice, vegetable egg rolls and tapioca freezes (bubble tea). The General Tso's, while enjoyable, had a bit more breading and less spice than I prefer, reminding me a little of sweet-and-sour chicken. The veggie egg rolls had a strong smell of oil, which was unappealing. I could have gotten past that, had they also not tasted heavily of oil. The tapioca freezes (watermelon and avocado), on the other hand, were quite good, though I would not call them the best in Chicago. I was a little surprised that a large entree only came with a small container of white rice (maybe because I also ordered fried rice?). I'm not complaining, as there was more rice than needed and white rice never reheats well, but if you like a lot of rice with your meal, make sure to order more. I've never dined in, but carry-out and delivery service has been excellent (I think my delivery order took 15 minutes to arrive, and everything was piping hot). All in all, Eng's is very adequate. No complaints, but no "Wow, I have to have that again!" either.

Very good food!! Before heading over to the bar across the street, this is where we all meet up every week. My cousin has this thing for their "Crispy Beef"... does anyone know of another chinese place that serves that? We have yet to find that anywhere else. Anyway, their smoothies are good, but I've had better elsewhere. Their fried rice, pot stickers and string beans dish are all good! I've ordered other things before and I will say that I haven't had a bad meal here at all. The service is good and they have a tendency to bring food out as its done cooking... rather than bringing them over all at once.

Eng's, you are the best Chinese restaurant north of Chinatown! I came here with my mom the other day for dinner and we were both surprised at how different the food tastes when you dine in rather than order take-out. Usually we order take-out and it's great, but quality of the food is so much better here when you dine in. We ordered the Malaysian seafood over baked rice, eggplant and chicken casserole, combination low mein and I got an avocado tapioca drink for myself. Eng's, congratulations! Your bubble teas have improved! Or at least the avocado one I had was delicious, made with avocado and I think, frozen yogurt, so that it had a consistency of a shake. The tapioca balls were also smaller than what other restaurants provide, which is good, because they packed more flavor and had the right gelatinous consistency. The eggplant and chicken casserole (which I refer to in my last review as eggplant in garlic sauce) tasted so much better dining in. The eggplant was soft yet retained its form, and absorbed the semi-sweet brown sauce well. It is a great dish for anyone who likes entrees over white rice. Also, since we ordered $30 worth of food (which btw, yields a lot of leftovers), we got a free order of shrimp fried rice to go. What a great deal!

Of course everyone has different opinions but in my case, Eng's is a very good restaurant. Their food is absolutely wonderful! It's crazy how their portions are so large for such reasonable/cheap price. I also love their smoothies; it's never lacking in taste. Even though their service may be lacking sometimes, I guess the language barrier may be the reason. Although I must say the young woman that works there on weekends is very fluent in english and has really good service.

Very yummy food, very nice people, the prices are wonderful and the portions are good. This is really a diamond in the rough, as the surrounding area doesn't really show where this is, we need to do all we can to help get more customers for a restaurant that truly deserves them. All it needs is some music, but other than that, a wonderful chinese restaurant!

Nothing spectacular but well worth what you pay. Great drinks. I had the chicken egg foo young which was good. Not the best I've ever had but it was a crazy amount of food for six fifty. Also had the Japanese Beef dumplings which were really good. Some friends had the fried rice, good standard fried rice and the Cashew chicken. I'm not a big Cashew chicken fan so can't comment. The Egg rolls were ok, I've had better. The Crab Rangoon was good however. I had the Taro Freeze which was awesome. The drinks we got were all really good. And like I said, nothing spectacular about this place but I'd go back and if you have a hungry group and not a ton of cash this place is perfect.

Ok, the only reason why this place is getting 3 stars is because the smoothies are good and I had spicy thai chicken wings and they were awesome. I ordered the chicken and singapore noodle and it was medicore at best. Chicken was good...keep the noodles

Dear Eng's, I love you. I've been wanting to tell you for so long, and I thought it was time you knew. My family has been eating at Eng's for as long as I can remember, since long before they expanded and went all Disco Fever with the paint job. Delivery is fast and hot (and they deliver their bubble tea!!) Our orders are NEVER wrong, and the food is easily my favorite Chinese on the North side. The egg rolls are in a three-way tie with Peking House and Kow Kow for the best I've ever had. Their fried rice IS the best I've ever had, whether you go shrimp, combo, or veggie (which has LOTS of veggie... broccoli, mushrooms, bell peppers, baby corn, carrots... nom nom nom.) I've never been disappointed with the food here. The Empress Chicken is to die for, but I only indulge occasionally because it's surely terrible for you. Sweet n' sour everything is good, egg foo yung, lo mein, pot stickers (HUGE and delicious), chow mein, pan fried noodles, tofu, vegetables, I could go on but I'm getting hungry. As others have said, their bubble teas are really really yummy, and if you ask they will make it for you without the sugar syrup. Eng's is also really cheap, especially for the truly massive amounts of food you get, and their delivery minimum is only $10. The best part of Eng's is the 11 am - 3 pm lunch special, which is a large choice of entrees with shrimp fried rice, soup, and an egg roll. Lunch specials are standard with American Chinese food, but at Eng's they are the biggest I have ever seen. It is literally a boat of food. Two can eat a single lunch special and still take home leftovers. And it's under $6. Frugal gourmands, rejoice.

If I could give Eng's a MINUS ONE STAR, I would. We live in the neighborhood and have been getting carry out for 35 years. Tonight was the LAST time. We ordered sweat and sour chicken and the batter on the chicken was dry like a two day old Dunk'n Donut. There were (I kid you not) 4 pieces or pineapple, 2 little pieces of green peppers and 2 little pieces of tomato. I called and complained and the sweet little order taker said that is how they make it. Well, we have had it many times over. They are trying to cut amounts. I will be driving to Lincolnwood to CHOW CHOW for some good Chinese food. Take my advice and do the same.

I've been looking for a good, fast Chinese food place in the area, and am so happy to finally find Eng's. We ordered the General Tso's (it actually had a bit of spice!), eggrolls and pork fried rice. Yum, yum and more yumminess! Delivery was fast and the food was good. I had a little difficulty placing the order over the phone because there was clearly a kid yelling in the background, but otherwise, this place is a winner.

Smoothies: when they are good (usually), they are very very good. But if you get a clunker (bad fruit), they won't replace it. Got a mouthful and throatful of fibrous threads from one such smoothie---must have been a really unripe mango or otherwise sub-par fruit. They absolutely would not change it. Management seems more interested in the bottom line than in customer service. I have only eaten dinner there a couple of times over many years, and was never impressed enough to make it a regular thing. Siam Pasta, which is just down the street, is much better.

DON'T COME HERE. I've given this place so many tries. Hoping that the food would be better the next time around. It never was. All bad experiences. One of 'em was some years ago in the fall. I was craving some really good soup to warm me up. What came to my table was utter crap. A BIG BOWL OF NOTHING. The bowl was HUGE! And the soup ... WAS NOT SOUP. IT WAS STOCK WITH NO VEGGIES OR MEAT. IT HAD NO FLAVOR. SO DAMN BLAND. NO SPICE, NO NOTHING. There were some seriously long noodles floating at the bottom that were impossible to pick up with a spoon, let alone with a fork. My absolute worst experience there was when I went with a friend of mine. We were both craving some bubble teas, and I will give credit where credit is due, their teas are so freakin' good. Better than any other place I have had them. When we came here and ordered our drinks and sat down to enjoy them. The owner came by and told us we could not sit there. She told us that if we were not eating, we were not allowed to sit at the tables. If we wanted to sit down, we could sit by the door. THE ENTRANCE. I was so fucking offended. We were paying customers! And the place, let me tell you, was empty. This is a BIG place with a LOT of tables. A-LOT. I have never seen this place packed by the way. Every time I've been there it's almost always empty. I've only come back again after some years because I love those bubble teas. But I will never eat there again. Do yourself a favor and go to China Ling. It's on Western too and way better. Save your money .. and some grief. HELPFUL TIP* China Ling: Awesome food and really good iced tea. Their bubble teas are just okay for me. Eng's: Unbelievably yummy bubble teas, but crap food and customer service.

If you want hot, fast delivery of Chinese food, this is the place. Fine dining it's not, but I always enjoy their food and even though I'm not a vegetarian, I love their "home style tofu"! Fast, good, reliable and tons of food with reasonable prices...love the fried spring rolls and the egg drop soup too! Thank you Eng's for always being there for me :)

Very solid chinese food delivered fast....had the mongolian beef and buddhist delight, both good. The cold sesame noodles were a little sugar-grainy, like they added sugar after they cooked it and it didn't dissolve, but it was still tasty and easily remedied by a reheat. One thing I'll rave about though...get the bubble tea freezes...I had the coconut bubble tea freeze and it was DELICIOUS!

Eng's has been in the West Rogers Park neighborhood for...more than a decade. And this ABC [American Born Chinese] kid has been going there since, well, he was a kid. Prior to all of the purple and pink walls, Eng's was a hole-in-the-wall carryout restaurant that had MAYBE two tables. They were all about the food. Now I'm talking about American-Chinese food. This isn't the traditional stuff you find back in the motherland. I'll give it to Mr. Eng, he know's how to make some delicious food. I've tried a good percentage of the menu. I'll say that most of the items are re-orderable. There are only a couple that I wouldn't order again [e.g. pad thai, but who orders pad thai at a Chinese restaurant?]. Yes the fried rice is good. Yes the orange chicken is good [it's got broccoli, a plus in my book]. Yes the baked rice dishes are good. I'll put it this way, my dad, a guy that ONLY eats Chinese food [like, legit traditional stuff] likes this restaurant. I'm giving Eng's four a solid four stars for this reason alone: BUBBLE TEA. For a measly $3 [plus tax] you can get yourself a fresh fruit drink that I'm convinced Mrs. Eng puts crack cocaine in it or something [Mrs. Eng actually makes the drinks herself most of the time!]. They're just so delicious that I always want more. Another plus in my book, they have a frequent drink card that gets you a FREE bubble tea with five stamps. FIVE STAMPS. Delivery service is usually very good. Food is still hot. Bubble tea is still cold. Delivery guy is friendly. No complaints here. To sum it up, Eng's is a neighborhood gem. It's ABC and father approved. And if you're wondering, the answer is yes, I did ask if there really was a Mr. Eng. It just so happened that Mrs. Eng was the one I asked. They both exist, just like Santa Claus, Hanukah Harry, and the Boogie Monster.

I love you Eng's!!! You have delicious and fresh food! The delivery is fast and well priced! The food is always hot, and the drinks are cold! I don't think we've ever had an error when ordering (well, maybe except the one time we didn't get enough straws, but no big deal) Your bubble tea drinks are TO.DIE.FOR. - Even the bubbles are fresh (not frozen) and full of flavor! You are, hands down, my favorite Asian restaurant in Chicago!

For when you miss the school cafeteria. Before you even walk in, looks like another one of those Chinese buffet places. Might as well be. The food was served somewhat warm, water was not replenished, chopsticks are not the default utensil issued to you (even if you're Asian), leftovers are not boxed (they bring you the boxes), men's toilet tank lid is cracked, and they have electrical tape holding the fire sprinklers in place. Go there if you want but I'm not.

HORRIBLE. Got crab Rangoon and Mongolian beef. The rangoon had the worst smell ever- it smelled off. I wouldn't even eat it. The Mongolian beef was a flavorless pile of oily-greasy meat and some brown stuff that I had to DROWN in soy sauce in order to choke down because I was hungry. The lychee-mango smoothie on the other hand was awesome. One star just for that. I usually order from China-Hut when I have a craving for Chinese food.. The problem is that they do fry in lard and use MSG so I was looking for something different. Eng's is not it. I'd rather eat MSG and just avoid fried anything at China-Hut then. Sorry Eng- never again. No way crab rangoon should smell like that.

decent. this place has stellar smoothies at a fair price. I ordered the sechzwan beef and fried rice. They both seemed greasy and the beef dish had a watery sauce which made the accompanying vegetables all taste the same. Also, there was no egg in the chicken fried rice, but it was still good. Call me a critic, but I did not like how my fortune cookie had a fortune as well as an advertisement to go to a website. Can't we enjoy food anymore without being bombarded by marketing? I had to ask for chopsticks and no napkins were included (which I assumed were and did not ask). The main course came in a nice re-useable tupperware-esque plastic container. This is my local chinese joint. I picked out a few disappointments, but I'll probably go back.

I'm still on the lookout for a favorite Chinese place. This place was "aiiiiiiiright". I still have an issue with the heavy, fatty gravy that was used for the Egg Foo Young, as is typical in many restaurants. I felt this entree lacked flavor. To me, "greasy" isn't a flavor. It was kinda "meh, I've tasted better." I did think the veggie egg rolls were very tasty. I agree with the other reviewers that the staff is very polite, the delivery was fast -but I wasn't really impressed with my entree. My boyfriend ordered the Orange Chicken and it looked good and he liked it. I'm sure I'll give this place another chance and try something different to see if I can bump them up a star or two.

The chicken of General Tso is pretty decent especially with the good veggies and such. Now what the hell are you trying to do to me with the Spicy Mustard? Honestly, I do not need a Chinese fireball coursing though my stomach on a warm afternoon. I really do not know if it's this way all over the city, but the last four places i've tried for chinese have this spicy mustard that must come from the manufacturer of chinese devil dragons. Spicy M is meant to heat up the dish, not destroy my innards. Aside from the spicy m. situation, I will give this place another go. p.s. make sure you say lunch special when ordering otherwise they will feel free to monstersize your order at a lovely premium. Enjoy!

My review is based on DELIVERY. Eng's has a very large menu that includes Chinese and Korean food choices. They also have a drink list which lists teas and freezes with tapioca. It is your typical Americanized Chinese restaurant. We ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, Beef Lo Mein, Mango Tapioca Freezes and a few other things. They were all typical and fairly priced ($5 - $12 for an entree minus appetizers or drinks). The Mango Freeze was the standout for me. It tasted like it was made with real Mango and not some kind of mix. that'll run you $3. Here's the drawback - it was a Tuesday night and we waited for over an hour and 20 minutes for delivery. Seemed a little out of control considering the place was only a 5 - 10 minute drive away from where we were. We called about 2 times and each time we were told they were on the way nearby. I'd hope that they've improved that delivery time since. If you're jonesing for Chinese food and live around Andersonville, Edgewater, Devon, Peterson, etc., order from here. Their menu boasts free parking if you want to go there. Click the weblink if you want to see their menu online. engsasiancuisine.com/hom…

We used to order from here pretty often but never again after tonight's experience. In the past the person answering the phone was a bit more professional and spoke fluent enough English and the delivery was pretty fast. Tonight placed an order, slight language barrier over the phone but all seemed well until I look up and over an hr has passed. Then I call to inquire about the delivery and she says the guy is on his way; ok fine, I'm a little irritable but still patient. Then 30 more minutes pass and I call again. This time a man answers the phone who's speech wasn't much better and had a very indignant cavalier attitude. After supposedly checking says there's no record of my order. At this point I'm livid and went off...not because of the mistake so much but because of the attitude behind it. He kept asking if I wanted to go ahead and place an order but wasn't trying to rectify the situation. Washing my hands of them, there are plenty of other Chinese restaurants in the area. I don't have to pay anyone for bad service.

Eng's is great. They have great food at a price that is easy on the wallet. I recommend the Walnut Shrimp. The bubble shakes are pretty good too.

I recently went here for a quick lunch. Food was blah, wished I went some place else. The smoothies were way too sweet. Maybe the lunch special was what really threw me off? I haven't tried anything else but I don't think I'll be coming back.

One cold snowy Sunday in Chicago, there was an extremely competitive Monopoly game unfolding by the fireplace. And by competitive, I mean no one was even getting up for drinks or the bathroom! Total domination of the Monopoly board was the only focus . . . until our order from Eng's arrived (which seemed to arrive instantly - ok, it's only 4 blocks away). When the doorbell rang we all pretended to not hear it, hoping someone else would get up to answer it. Eventually, someone got up and paid the delivery guy and brought the food in the house. At first the aroma distracted some of the less monopolistic participants (i.e. those almost bankrupt), and they started to open our order. After the rest of us acknowledged our desperate need for food, the plates were brought out we tasted the food . . . within 5 seconds, our plans for Monopoly domination disappeared and we were all raving about the excellent food. Even the soup that is gratis with the order was good! The most amazing thing was that 9 of us were stuffed, with plenty left, for a grand total of $48 - how is that possible? was it a hallucination . . . good, cheap Chinese food?!?! I don't even remember the outcome of the Monopoly game.

This review is just for the bubble tea they make. I've yet to try the food there. Anyway, we tried the avocado, honeydew, and coconut bubble tea. It took them a few minutes to make it, and the taste was really good. I've tried bubble tea in so many places in uptown and chinatown, but this place definitely goes on my top 5 list.

My only two culinary woes since moving from San Francisco to Chicago have been the lack of good Chinese food and good non-deep-dish pizza. I still haven't cracked the pizza problem, but have finally, FINALLY found great Chinese food! The General Tso's chicken, cantonese spare ribs, and egg/spring rolls (we ordered 3 kinds) were all DELECTABLE. I ordered the small chicken and had enough for dinner last night and lunch today. The chicken wings and lemograss beef were good but not great, but the food was so reasonably priced, we couldn't possibly have cared! Not only is the food delicious, but they have white meat chicken for no extra charge (hooraaay!), deliver to Evanston (holy amazingness!), and are easonably priced (cha ching!) I am a little sad that I have been here for 2 years and am just finding Eng's now, but I take solace in the fact that I can order from there for my remaining nine months.

So I've been going to Eng's since it was more than half the size it is now ( so that's basically since I was really little). Back then, the food was good but we stop going because they used to use peas and carrots in the rice and my mom hated that soooo we went elsewhere for a while. We ended up coming back because we wondered if anything had changed. That was maybe 5 or 6 years ago and we've been going since. We watched them change from the tiny place to the bigger restaurant it is now. The food is really really good. They have a lunch special between I think 11 and 3 where its a meat, rice, and egg roll for like 6 bucks. And if you think its small portions, you thought wrong. Two people can easily get full off of one plate. The people are nice, the bathroom is clean, and, especially on Sundays, they usually have a good game on whether it's basketball or football. I say go. I've had Panda Express and was so disappointed, I had to go eat Eng's to get the taste out of my mouth. Enjoy! P.S. They do deliver and are pretty fast. They also offer takeout that is usually ready if you call about 15 minutes before you pick it up.

I dig this place. We did take out from here last Saturday and we were both more than pleased with our food. I tried an egg roll, which was pretty standard; the crab rangoon, better than average and I love that they weren't stingy with the filling; Mongolian beef, yum; and the Kung Pao chicken, another thumbs up. My only gripe is that they don't allow you to do the lunch special for dinner like most other places do. I don't mind paying a few bucks extra over the lunch time price to get the same amount of food. Another odd thing was that we only got one box of rice for the two of us and it was very small. Huh? We'll probably add this to our list of take out places.

Eng's is a large, brightly painted place next to what may be the last Blockbuster standing within miles and miles. There's a poster with big pictures of various types of bubble tea on the wall, and I eye it every time as I sit waiting for my meal. Food portions are large, probably too large to also have one of their gigantor drinks, but I sit there daydreaming. Their generously portioned fruity drinks are like an oasis of cool on a hot summer day - definitely not a bad idea to get one "to go"! The vegetarian selection is smallish, but enough. We usually have the delicious homestyle tofu. I get it spicy, and my friend orders the mild. Neither will be all that hot, but we're ok with this, because it's a tasty, filling meal. If it wasn't so good, probably order would be enough for the two of us. It's a nice, quiet place, although sometimes dinner conversation is punctuated by the sound of the drinks blender. Eng's is a-ok.

Ordered Eng's on Xmas eve. Delivery took just under an hour. Ordered Beef Broccoli, seafood curry and an order of steamed dumplings. Portions were large. Overall the food was properly seasoned, fresh and tasty. The free eggroll was a bonus. Both the lady on the phone and the delivery guy were pleasant and courteous. I will order from here again. Prices were good, $25 for all that food and we have left overs.

They fluctuate between three and four stars, but generally I would like to think of them as a four. This is a local Chinese restaurant on the far north side of the city. I believe they have some of the best bubble tea in the area and rival any of the best in the city (look below for update). This is the only location where I believe I can order a decent watermelon or strawberry bubble tea. Their orange and szechuan chicken dinners are delicious. The room sometimes feels to spacious for its own good, and it seems like they decorated this place from Ikea. On the whole I'd say its pretty good food, but the bubble tea is awesome. This is one place I don't mind frequenting when I'm back in the old hood. UPDATE: Recently returned for one of the best bubble teas in the city. I am going to say they have the best mango bubble tea around, absolutely delicious... I'm even upgrading my star rating for it based on the bubble tea here. Its as good if not better than any spot in the city.

We're moving to West Ridge, so we have to find a good Chinese restaurant. This one seemed to have good reviews, so we started here. I really liked the food here. I'm living in the suburbs now, and the Chinese I have had here is (in my opinion) horrible. I had Kung Pao Chicken and Egg Flower Soup here at Eng's, and both were great. I was taken aback by the portions! The egg flower soup was $3 per bowl - they brought it out in a bowl, then there was a smaller soup bowl that you served yourself in. The large bowl held almost four bowls of soup - for $3. Likewise, the Kung Pao was cheap for such large portions. I just had a pop here; I see that everyone likes the smoothies, but I am *really * picky about smoothies (must have real fruit, yogurt, juice), so I avoid them at any place that isn't a smoothie bar. As much as I liked this place, I don't know if I would eat here again. I might order out, but this restaurant was too freaking loud. It became apparent that others found the smoothies a big draw, because the blender was on almost constantly. The interior of the restaurant is such that it doesn't quiet the sound of the blender at all - in fact, it was really, really loud. That was distracting and annoying, so it's not a place I would eat in. That's why I gave it 4 stars. I'll keep looking around to see if I can find a better place nearby that I like, but it's good to know that I have a good place nearby.

After a couple of crappy orders from other Chinese places, we found Eng's on grubhub.com . I was immediately impressed with the prices and small/large size choices. The food arrives quickly; ordered early-5to6pm--on a weeknight, can arrive in 15/20 minutes. The eggrolls are crispy, the potstickers juicy, and the main dishes satisfying. I've had the szechwan beef, moo shu beef and mongolian beef, all size small, and I always had leftovers. I don't like the fortune cookies they send (they have an orange flavor), but in the grand scheme of things it is not a big thing. Eng's is now our go-to Chinese delivery place.

Eng's used to be my favorite in Rogers Park but lately, they have just slipped and I find the food just isn't what I remember it to be. Also my husband never used to get sick from their food and he did the last 2 times. I think I will be saving Chinese for Chinatown, however if I am in need for a cheap quick lunch the $5 lunch specials are pretty good.

As most Chinese places go there are ups and downs on the menu. Everyone seems to have their favorites that they order time and time again. This place seems to be mostly pretty good food with a few items that stand out. The fried rice here comes in many varieties and is cheap and great tasting and I always order it when I try something new so I have something to eat if my experimentation goes awry. For the most part this place has some interesting flavors that I'm growing to love. The Korean items are pretty delicious. Right now I'm really into the Korean Stone Bowl which is basically beef and veggies on rice, if you add a decent amount of salt it is absolutely delicious and semi-healthy. Some of the Korean meat can be a little fatty but it just adds to the flavor. All in all, one the more interesting oriental places in the area with a huge menu selection, definitely worth checking out.

If you've ever been to a mall in Taiwan and had really really cheap Chinese there -- made with cheap grisly cuts of meat -- this is rather like that. Joy yee noodles in Evanston is almost exactly the same type of food. Think: its to Chinese food what macD's is to a really good burger. Is it authentic, yes... but...

The food was ok but nothing special. I tried quite a few things with the same results... prawns - so-so (lukewarm), General Tao's Chicken.. not much flavor, egg rolls so-so, Mongolian beef was good, cashew chicken was ok, pea pods were plentiful but overcooked....

We had this place deliver to a friend's house. The food was really good -- your typical Chinese food but real fresh and hot and delivered fast too. I hear they have a lunch buffet; definitely going to have to try that out sometime.

Reliable and consistent. Not the best Chinese food I have ever had, but by far the best I have found on the far north side. I prefer take-out to dining in because the place is loud (drink blender) and cavernous with brightly painted walls. Delivery is FAST! If you like your General Tso's chicken spicy, order it EXTRA spicy. About the only item I have not liked are the egg rolls - greasy and too much cabbage. I am glad it's in my neighborhood.

The wife was sick and there's nothing comforting like Chinese soup unless you are a mother. I am not but was still trying to be the hero of the day and ran across these reviews. The delivery was fast and accurate. The food was tasty and the soup hit the spot and did her some good. The solid foods I ordered for myself also were tasty and enjoyable. This is nothing rather different than most Chinese food, but it is done well and we will probably visit again. Check out grubhub for the menu and coupons.

The food here is very hit or miss, but they do some dishes exceptionally well. I really love their potstickers. You get a good portion and they are perfectly fried. I hate it when you get dumplings that have a crunch when you bite into them. Eng's are soft without being too doughy. Their menu is huge so leave plenty of time to navigate. Fortunately for you, they have pictures of almost every dish to make it easier. For me, it makes it harder because everything looks so tasty. I really like their Crispy Beef. Again, perfectly crisp on the outside with a tender center. Some of their dishes tend to be on the oily side, but if you choose right you're in good shape. I like their baked rice dishes like the Chicken and Mushroom or Beef box. Their wide rice noodles are so slippery from oil they have no flavor. Also, the Korean BBQ short ribs were really rubbery and bland. Their Schezwan dumplings are divine. Other dishes like the Garlic Chicken have huge portions and are served in these boat containers. They have really reasonable lunch specials and tons of bubble teas that are all pretty tasty. Service is really quick for pick up. I prefer it to eating in their dining room, which is too open and lacks any real atmosphere. However, it is BYOB, so you can spike your bubble teas with some rum.

Lol.

Ok, the only reason why this place is getting 3 stars is because the smoothies are good and I had spicy thai chicken wings and they were awesome. I ordered the chicken and singapore noodle and it was medicore at best. Chicken was good...keep the noodles

decent. this place has stellar smoothies at a fair price.

Yuck.

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

(5)Liz B.
bubble teas are good, egg rolls are good, mongolian beef and fried rice is good. but never EVER get the pad thai wooshen. absolutely horrible. no flavor, its just plain noodles with huge chunks of carrot and lettuce.
(4)Diana D.
So glad I found this place! Very good food and very reasonably priced. Bubble teas are great, portions are definitely for sharing, staff is courteous and quick. I have a fondness for the Walnut Chicken and just about all of their apps.
(4)Shiungor V.
There are a few selections that are great. The Japanese two mushroom tofu, the salt/pepper smelts, the pineapple fried rice but most of all the bubble shakes! Lychee/watermelon Mango Strawberry/Banana

Food was okay :) I enjoyed it but I wasn't WOW'ed by the place.... That being said the service was fast and the staff very nice I ordered take out RATINGS 1-10 Sesame Chicken 6 1/2 Pot Stickers 5 Crab Rangoon 7 Edamame 6
(3)Sargis N.

Eng's always satisfies us. xoxo
(5)Veth V.
I ordered the lemongrass beef and was sadly disappointed. It is supposed to be spicy but there was no spice at all. It was supposed to taste like Lemongrass beef but was lacking that too. I'm Cambodian and lemongrass is in almost everything we eat and this dish did not have even a hint of one of the main ingredients. I do like this place but I suggest you don't stray away from the cliché orange chicken or general tsao because you might he disappointed.

(4)AJ M.
(3)Wynn D.

(1)Angie E.
Yuck.
(1)Yesenia T.
This place is disgusting !!! I orderd food on thursday ...the beef tasted like fish so I called them they told me to throw it out and I could gdt my money back ...however I've been throwing up .diarrhea and vomiting ...I went to the e.r and turns out ..FOOD POISONING. ..DONT EAT HERE ...IM GOING TO TAKE THE OWNER THE PAPERS FROM MY DR.
(1)Kelly B.
(2)Alejandro S.
Food is good, I have to give them that but the service will certainly ruin the experience especially if you order for delivery. Honestly, you might be better going to the next place near you.
(2)Jacob J.

(3)Doug K.
Excellent food, reasonable prices, awesome variety of Asian foods.
(4)Stephanie C.

Great tofu chow fun! My favorite hot and sour soup in town!

(4)Albert K.
(4)Ehow C.
Sorry!
(2)Romney D.

(4)Lesley A.

(5)Lady F.
(5)Chris L.
(4)Sherronda B.

(1)Carolyn G.

(2)Gaby S.
(2)Sarah P.
(3)Rachel S.
(3)Gary C.
(4)Ben D.
(5)Santi D.
(2)Ms T.
(1)Andrea N.
decent. this place has stellar smoothies at a fair price.
(3)Jennifer Q.
(3)Drew J.

(4)Dino M.
Best value I have ever had for asian food. The delivery is usually early and when my friends come by my place they always want to order from Eng's!
(5)Ann Y.
(3)Avery S.
(4)Scott C.
Best smoothies ever!!! Best chinese place I've been to! Great Sesame Chicken and great fried rice.
(5)Rebecca R.
Is it authentic, yes... but...
(3)Jacob K.
The food was ok but nothing special. I tried quite a few things with the same results... prawns - so-so (lukewarm), General Tao's Chicken.. not much flavor, egg rolls so-so, Mongolian beef was good, cashew chicken was ok, pea pods were plentiful but overcooked....
(3)a w.
We had this place deliver to a friend's house. The food was really good -- your typical Chinese food but real fresh and hot and delivered fast too. I hear they have a lunch buffet; definitely going to have to try that out sometime.
(5)Sefi P.
(4)Neeraj D.
(4)Chalie A.
dine in sucks. the servers dont seem to care that you are spending money. but the food is good and the smoothies are delicious.
(3)Mary C.
(3)Robin S.
fast delivery (the smoothies are still frozen) and good food with large portions.
(4)Elisabeth C.
(4)Doug K.
Excellent food, reasonable prices, awesome variety of Asian foods.
(4)Kelly B.
(2)Alejandro S.
Food is good, I have to give them that but the service will certainly ruin the experience especially if you order for delivery. Honestly, you might be better going to the next place near you.
(2)Albert K.
(4)Ehow C.
Sorry!
(2)Romney D.
Lol.
(4)Stephanie C.
(4)lauren s.
Great tofu chow fun! My favorite hot and sour soup in town!
(4)Sherronda B.
Ok, the only reason why this place is getting 3 stars is because the smoothies are good and I had spicy thai chicken wings and they were awesome. I ordered the chicken and singapore noodle and it was medicore at best. Chicken was good...keep the noodles
(3)Andrea N.
decent. this place has stellar smoothies at a fair price.

(5)Rhonda J.

(2)Sarah P.
(3)Rachel S.
(3)Chris L.

(4)Ben D.
(5)Santi D.
(2)Ms T.

(3)Drew J.

(5)Ngoc H.
I recently went here for a quick lunch. Food was blah, wished I went some place else. The smoothies were way too sweet. Maybe the lunch special was what really threw me off? I haven't tried anything else but I don't think I'll be coming back.
(1)Shiungor V.
There are a few selections that are great. The Japanese two mushroom tofu, the salt/pepper smelts, the pineapple fried rice but most of all the bubble shakes! Lychee/watermelon Mango Strawberry/Banana
(4)Bartek K.
(2)Matt H.
Eng's always satisfies us. xoxo

(4)AJ M.
(3)Wynn D.

(1)Angie E.
Yuck.
(1)Vikki Y.
(4)Nick P.
(5)Liz B.
bubble teas are good, egg rolls are good, mongolian beef and fried rice is good. but never EVER get the pad thai wooshen. absolutely horrible. no flavor, its just plain noodles with huge chunks of carrot and lettuce.
(4)Diana D.
So glad I found this place! Very good food and very reasonably priced. Bubble teas are great, portions are definitely for sharing, staff is courteous and quick. I have a fondness for the Walnut Chicken and just about all of their apps.
(4)Yesenia T.
(1)Jennica L.

(4)Ann A.
(4)Shira R.
(3)Simone G.
(4)Aesha W.

(4)Dino M.
Best value I have ever had for asian food. The delivery is usually early and when my friends come by my place they always want to order from Eng's!
(5)Avery S.
(4)Scott C.
Best smoothies ever!!! Best chinese place I've been to! Great Sesame Chicken and great fried rice.
(5)Rebecca R.
Is it authentic, yes... but...
(5)Sefi P.
(4)Mary C.
(3)Neeraj D.
(4)Chalie A.
dine in sucks. the servers dont seem to care that you are spending money. but the food is good and the smoothies are delicious.
(3)Lady F.
(5)Emma R.
Great food and speedy delivery! I prefer to get it delivered - last time we dined in the staff were all yelling at eachother and fighting. We we also the only customers sitting in the flourescent pink dining room.
(4)Robin S.
fast delivery (the smoothies are still frozen) and good food with large portions.
