Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Great place! Dine in or take out. Authentic feel and delicious food!

Stopped in while serving on jury duty. Easy walk. Full of cops and locals. Steak taco was enormous. I should not have ordered two. Prepared fresh.

this is the best mexican place I've had in chicago. Very flavourful at the same time it was great price! went there on a saturday morning, and it has its own store selling tortilla/bread and stuff, it was filled with people speaking spanish, making it very authentic. Absolutely loved the food there!
(5)Jenny H.
I got 2 tacos- one with beef and the other with pork with green sauce.Their tacos are not very typical, they put rice and beans in the tacos, with huge chunks of meat on top- it doesn't have the typical onion/cilantro mixture with chopped up meat. They're super huge and filling. We ordered it with avocado and sour cream which helped to complement the flavors really well.

If you want an authentic, cheap, tasty meal, El Milagro can't be beat. I got the torta with steak and couldn't finish it all. So filling! Get the hot chocolate!! It is so rich and tasty. Perfect for a cold day. I also recommend the horchata. The restaurant is attached to the factory that makes the tortillas and chips--grab a bag or two before going home. The ingredients are quality and the staff is friendly. Plus, it's super close to a discount mall that is fun to explore after your meal.

For my first trip to Pilsen, my nose followed me to the El Milagro restaurant. When you walk in, its pretty overwhelming as there are a TON of menu items on the wall and a smorgasbord of meats floating in dreamy sauces behind the glass counter. We decided on the steak, pork in verde sauce, and chicken mole tacos, a pork tamale, and a horchata. First off, these 'tacos' were HUGE ($3), they are more like burrito jr.'s. Also, the tacos come with beans and rice in the taco, sliced cabbage slaw on top, and a side of fresh tomato salsa. I was really impressed with the steak and pork in verde sauce tacos, although everything else was super tasty and flavorful. The horchata was just ok. There are a million other items I'd love to try at El Milagro so I will definitely be back/bring friends!

TO GO REVIEW A coworker brought their pork and chicken tamales in for a birthday celebration! Well sized, not dinky. Really like the kick from the green sauce (tomatillo) in the chicken tamales. Both were delicious, will definitely make it a point to stop in next time I'm in the area!
(4)Jesus G.
They honestly have the best tamales in Chicago (don't let my mom hear that! Lol) They have a good variety of tamales such as green with meat, red w/meat, poblano pepper w/ cheese (my personal favorite) and a bunch of sweet ones. On Sundays they also now offer tamales de mole which are very unique and savory. Tamales are also cheap compared to other places ($1 each or $11 for a dozen) The restaurant also has awesome tacos which are different than most Mexican restaurants. They add rice and beans to the tacos so they are super thick and filling. The only bad part is they don't have a good salsa to go with them since they give you pico de gallo instead but they are so good you forget about that. Highly recommend the Chilaquiles also since I have tried them many times and they are always on point! Kind of spicy but just add sour cream and they will be better :) I make the trip to Little Village just for their food.... Awesome restaurant with great service!

Eek! I've been coming here for years and have never written a review?! I'm terrible! El Milagro has been part of my family for ages. The tortillas have been on our kitchen table for decades and once the restaurant opened we were there to welcome it with open arms. =) The tacos are delicious. Take your pick, carne asada, chile relleno, huevo, guisados... Whatever you pick, you can't go wrong. They also have chilaquiles, flautas, tamales, sopa de fideo, and rice and beans. Their menu during lent is also amazing. Rajas con crema, tortas de papa, capirotada... They have champurrado every morning. Yum. Next door you will find the actual tortilleria for tortillas, chips, maza, chicharrones, nopales, tostadas, etc. Parking lot is available.

Tacos for Breakfast! Upon entering your head is on a swivel looking up at the wall menu, while subsequently looking down at the colorful display of food trays arranged in sequence for your viewing pleasure. At this point El Milagro knows they have you hooked! The cashier takes your order with authority followed by an understanding to take a seat and chill while your order is attentively prepared. The food is best described as simple and addictive. The aromatics are subtle. The menu relies on texture to compliment the contrast of taste. The carne asada taco is a prime example...as good as I have ever tasted! What's not to like? I'll leave the rest to your imagination... Tacos for Breakfast!

All I've had from this restaurant is the tamales but they are the best! I have bought them many times over the years and they are always delicious. They are a good size, well made, good amount of filling and very reasonably priced. During Christmas time make sure to order at least a couple weeks ahead of time because so many people place orders that they cut off taking orders the closer you get to the holiday.

First time to Little Village, and it was fantastic. I didn't realize that they make the El Milagro line of products right there. We purchased some tortillas, and then went next door to eat. I love the fact that the kitchen is right there. You see them cooking the food. And you see what you are going to be eating. My wife had a chicken taco. Her taco was huge, and she loved it. She doesn't much like cabbage, but the cabbage on the taco was different, and she loved it. I ordered a chicken burrito, and it was fantastic. The flavor profile was superb. Chicken was tender and juicy, beans were flavorful and not overpowering, and the whole thing just made my day. We will be back.
(5)Jonathan S.
This place is the taqueria off-shoot of the El Milagro Tortilla Company (if you're Mexican and from Chicago...you know El Milagro). True to point, what El Milagro excels at are tacos using their house-made tortillas. BUT. Don't expect your mama's tacos--these bad+boys come with a layer of rice, beans, your choice of meat and a shredded cabbage salad on top. OH! And if you get the taco de pollo en mole, KNOW THAT THERE WILL BE A BONE: you have to use a fork to get the meat off first. (not proud to admit this, but I totally bit into a taco and got a major teeth boning) A parking lot is available--total thumbs up. One warning: the torta bread they use isn't very good--the bolillo is too bready. Stick to tacos and tamales.
(4)Diana C.
I really love this place. Their carne asada is great and so is their lengua plate. Whenever I want delicious Mexican food I'll come out here. Never have I've been disappointed. Keep up the great work!!! Anyone who doesn't likes this place with authentic Mexican food probably thinks Taco Bell is the best Mexican food. LOL
(5)Angelique G.
I ordered a taco of bistec en chile de arbol and steak taco. My aunt ordered a chicken con mole plate. All were incredibly delicious! My favorite place in the city!
(5)Green B.
This place is overrated !!!! The lines are exaggerated and the food does not live up to its " popularity" I had a a Chicken Taco, I was served the whole breast !! at least shred the chicken!!
(1)Joshua L.
Im never eating here again... Rude at the register, they even saw someone cut me and still served them first... The carne asada plate I ordered had extra dry meat, it was almost like beef jerky... And it simply isn't worth it... The best mexican for me is still Jalisco on cicero and 19th...

Stopped in on a whim, looking to grab some quick tamales around 11a.m.....SCORE! (Thanks to fellow Yelpers! for leading the way). A dozen rajas con queso (cheese & peppers) and the puerco con salsa rojo (pork with red sauce) tamales definitely satisfied the early lunch craving. $12 a dozen seemed a tad steep at first, but they were worth the investment. The cheese and peppers may have been the best I've ever had. On the contrary, the pork had great zip, but were a tad dry. None of which were over-spiced as to torment the gringo tongue. To-go service was efficient in taking orders, getting the food out, and best of all bilingual! The cafeteria-style walk up was a sight to see, and every offering seemed more mouth-watering than the next. Plenty of seating inside, and if you're lucky some sweet serenading a la guitarra . For my money, it's one of the top Mexican lunch stops around. Repeat visits for sure.
(4)Melody C.
The food is good and everything looks delicious as you're walking past to order, but the employees stink at taking orders. We ordered 8 tacos, 6 steak and 2 chicken, all on flour tortillas and they gave us two with corn and forgot the chicken. Then they were like, "oh, you didn't say that. And I'm sure you said that you wanted two corn." The food is good, but I think I'm going to take it to go.
(3)Diana G.
This might be tops or one of the top places for steak tacos. I think this one is better than the one on 18th. They also have a parking lot. We came for an early dinner about 5:30pm. There was only about 2 tables occupied. We got 4 steak tacos, one steak platter, one pork tamale, one chicken tamale, pop and horchata. Steak had a great grilled flavor. I loved the slaw that they had and how they put rice on these. They do not skimp here. At first we thought it was a bit pricey, but for the quality and quantity, it's actually not bad at all. I think the steak platter is the way to go. I could make 2 meals out of it. Only bad thing, there was at least 3 solicitors that came into the restaurant asking for money.

Jury duty lunch break must visit! When noon was approaching in the jury room, I pulled up Yelp to look for lunch options in the area. Am I ever glad I did! This place is great. You have to walk past a couple other places to get here but they didn't seem open. This place was busy, clean, efficient, tons of options, and you can see the entire menu and all the meat choices while you're in line. I had a chicken taco and pork tamale. As others mentioned the tacos are huge and have rice and beans. I saved the tamale for later - one taco was enough for a meal. I wanted a chile relleno but wasn't sure how that would settle for the rest of the afternoon sitting in the jury room (boring). I sat and ate with two other jurors, and the walk back is nice after eating.
(5)Mihir G.
The cactus salad in unreal!! completely mind blown! Will come back to try the tacos and tortas.
(4)Marcee W.
Went there to pick up a couple dozen tamales to go, but was misinformed by a friend that the tamales could be purchased in the store next door. We didn't order tamales for lunch since we were planning on taking them home. Tacos were only so-so and beef was tough. Left to go next door for our tamales and learned that we had to order them in the restaurant. By the time we went back in the restaurant, the line was about 20 deep. So...no tamales :( All in all, a somewhat disappointing experience.
(2)Joel P.
Food was good, first time in chicago I would have given them a higher rating but the service (cashier) wasn't friendly, we ordered 6 tacos 3 burritos and some lengua and he made a sarcastic comment like if we knew how big the tacos were. Then they didn't bring the whole order at once other people in the table had to wait.
(3)George F.
Wow! My wife and I have been scouring the country for authentic Mexican food for years and I thought we had a good handle on it until now. But El Milagro is far beyond anything we'd seen before. The cafeteria style setup is a little misleading. You walk past the food then order, sit and wait until they bring it to you. But it works. We split the Pork Salsa Verde, Chilaquiles and a few Tamales. The portions were generous (especially the tamales) and everything tasted fantastic! The pork was lean and tender. The corn tortillas we freshly made. And my wife raved about the Chilaquiles and beans. The décor was simple yet authentic and inviting. The value was fantastic and the service was friendly and fast. If I was a local, I'd be there every week. Hopefully I'll make it back soon. Until then, the flavors will live in my dreams.
(5)Cesar M.
What a better way to end the year than eating at one of your favorite restaurants. I was here on Dec. 31 and everything is as good as always. Tamales, carne asada, puerco en salsa verde and champurrado. I want food from this place now. Too bad I am at work.
(5)D R.
a great place to get you tacos fix, but its still not the best in chicago but it will do. it gets a big hype but i can see why based off the over stuffed tacos they give you. i havnt tried anything else besides tacos there. they have more mexican traditonal food but the tacos are the best. get the tacos with everything, you wont be disappointed.
(4)Sarah S.
This place is great! The ordering system in the restaurant is slightly confusing; you walk past the buffet/display with all the food and then you order towards the back of the little servery. But it's so cheap, and very worth it. The tacos aren't your normal Little Village tacos. They have rice and beans and cabbage slaw, as well as whatever you put in them. They are pretty much impossible to eat as regular tacos, particularly if you get one of the more stew-like fillings. The chiccaron I had yesterday wasn't quite as good and they told me it was something else when I ordered it. Nonetheless for the most part the people here are friendly and there is decently good service. Very few of them speaks English but that's ok. The pork in green sauce is PHENOMENAL. And a taco is $3, and huge, so I can get by on just one for lunch, which makes it an extremely cheap lunch.
(4)Jon O.
If you are looking for an authentic Mexican culinary experience, El Milagro Tortilleria should be at the top of your list. Situated in the heart of Little Village on 26th Street, the restaurant is next door to their store. We ordered the tacos (steak, pork in green sauce, and chicken) and a side of tortilla chips covered with Mexican cheese and salsa on the side. First of all, the prices are incredibly low; the tacos were only $3 each, and they were large, like burrito large; awesome bang-for-buck. Everything we ordered was very delicious, including the chips that were fresh out of the fryer. I've been to many Mexican restaurants, and El Milagro is easily one of the best.
(5)Mia Z.
Excellent for authenticity, not so good if you are in a hurry at lunch. Line was wrapped around and extended into the dining room. It appears that this is a normal occurence and the staff is on their own pace. I got the bistek (steak) tacos. I ordered 3, two were plenty. Excellent. Not since I lived in L.A. have I had tacos like this. Definitely worth the wait, but be prepared to wait. Folks on jury duty may want to order to go, just to be safe.
(4)Chrystarie H.
Very tasty food! Satisfying and I even found a new love "Jamaica" (sweet red pepper juice) I tried the cow tongue for the 1st time. It wasn't as good as I hoped but the rest of the different meats were delicious :)
(5)Howard L.
Nice place for authentic and cheap Mexican eats. You order cafeteria style, and they bring your order to you in the relatively spacious dining space. There was a 15 minute ordering line at about 1:30pm, so it's a popular place. The products are good, piping hot fresh, generous, and cheap. We had a steak taco ($2.99), stewed pork with green sauce plate ($5.49), and a $1 tamale (pineapple and pecan flavored). The only minor knocks might be that the steak was a bit bland (but there was a lot of it, and there's always sauce), and the beans on the pork plate were a little watery, but really it doesn't take away from the rating at this pricing. We also got six piping hot steamin' flour tortillas, and I think we were amongst the very few non-Mexicans in the place at the time. We'll likely be back when around the area again.
(5)Nessie V.
Save money and buy fresh from the factory. I do mean fresh. Right next door to the taqueria run by the same folks, there is a factory that makes corn and flour tortillas (60¢-87¢ a package), masa, dried chiles, and tortilla chips ($1.90/pound or 3lbs. for $5). Just walk in, grab a basket, and grab what you want as you wait in line. If you get bored you can watch the machine turning corn into masa. Note that the cashier may only speak to you in español, but it's not a complicated transaction, so you'll be fine with English. It's easy peasy. It's cash only, so hit an ATM first. No checks, cards, or food stamps accepted. Vegans, lactose-intolerants, and cholesterol-watchers may want to note that one of the flour tortillas has butter in it, so read those labels.
(4)Mario C.
i dont like their tacos, im not a fan of the meat having the nerve on it still. their tamales to me are the only reason to go there. place has parking, but can easily fill up on most days.
(3)Delia V.
The tamales are the best in the city!! My family makes the for Christmas but otherwise I buy them here & only here. The piña ones are good too. I prefer not to buy the fresa ones because they have jelly in them. However, I love the bean tamales & raja tamales!! Love!
(5)Janet E.
A restaurant that serves delicious food at amazing prices! I had a pork tamale which was super tasty!!!!! Only for $1!!!!! Cant beat that! The pork meat was very tender. My only complaint was that it was very greasy. But since I'm not eating this everyday, I gave myself permission to splurge. The restaurant itself works cafeteria style. You go to the counter, order your food, pick up your food, and pay for your food. Then you find yourself a table, have a seat, and dig in! They also serve sweet tamales. I was fortunate to try one, the pecan and pineapple tamale was yummie! It tasted more like sweet moist corn bread. Sweet tamales also $1!!! I am going to have to come back here again to try more of their other dishes. They were grilling meat on the grill and it smelled so good. I wanted a beef taco really badly! Next time!
(5)Theresa V.
They have the most delicious nopales I have ever had! They only sell them on weekends so make sure you get there early because they run out by like 1pm. Also there food is really good too. The tacos are huge and unique! Very clean inside
(5)Katie U.
Great tamales, raja are my favorite. Some of the best Mexican food I've found in the city. Authentic and cheap, great combo!
(5)Lena V.
This place is legit. Being from New Mexico it's hard to find a good Mexican restaurant in Chicago. Heard about this place in a Chicago travel book and thought I should try it out. For three people and a lot of food was $30 for tacos, tamales and a chile relleno that tasted just like grandmas cooking. Even though this place is in little village don't be scared of the location because the food is worth it.
(5)Reuben H.
I don't know how I ever got so full of myself to deny this amazing place a fifth star. Perhaps I was trying to trick myself into believing that food at this price point, and at this high quality, and in such large quantities could ever be matched? I was dumb, and I ask the statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe who shimmers with funky accent lighting to forgive such pompousness... The food here is exquisite. Such soulfull, timeless, delicious, fulfilling traditional food- and yet full of unique qualities. You'll get a great helping of the staple product that this namesake is based on- their tortillas- the factory is attached next door), and what you decide to put in them is varied and all of amazing quality. I have a hard time passing up two specific things here- the steak taco (carne asada), and the pork in green sauce (puerco en salsa verde... doesn't it sound nicer in spanish?!?). Bottom line- everything is frickin' great, so you won't go wrong. Tamales, guisados (stews), champurrado (corn and chocolate drink- delicious in the cold months!), and those MASSIVE steak tacos (an entire piece of skirt steak, not chopped up bits, served on a huge tortilla, made in house of course, and topped with beans, and this awesome cabbage slaw). There's so much more, but don't expect to try a whole lot unless you come in a big group and all order different things. You get a TON of food for the money! El Milagro is a destination place for amazing comida Mexicana.
(5)John H.
Best tacos in Chicago, hands down nothing even comes close. Great nacho platter as well. A must. Great atmosphere and the people are friendly even though I'm a white guy lol.
(5)Rand M.
Oh, man, I'm glad I don't live closer. I would never cook anything, would spend all of my money and be at least 50 lbs heavier. This is so good. Nothing fancy. Just good. I went with tacos, lots of tacos, both times but they were too good not to repeat. I then stole tamales from my friends as well. Enchiladas are fantastic too. So good that I just had to add this update. I guess I don't even care that it's far from my house. The slight trek makes it more special. I go when I want to, knowing it's completely worth the trip.
(5)M.A C.
Okay El Milagro - I just visited your location in Pilsen and I have been a faithful customer for years. I have put up with your stinginess and have had enough with it. My First complaint is that if people are buying dozens of tamales you should include a reasonable amount of free salsa and if they want extra of course charge them for it. I let it go but now you have gotten so much cheaper and do not provide regular cups for water but instead some cheap inconsiderate person in your company replaced cups with "CONE" cups!!!!!! If I don't drink soda and I want water and I am sitting in your establishment how am I supposed to sit a cone cup down on the table!? I even witnessed you denying a senior citizen a regular cup for water. Yes I know you have soda fountain out on floor for refills and may not want people using water cups for soda because your company is CHEAP. But this is crossing a line for your type of business. I can only imagine how petrified and how oppressive you must be to have your staff be afraid to break or make exception for anyone. Adios El Milagro fix this or I will take my business somewhere else
(1)P A.
You want Mexican? It's the best here - the best of everything Tortillas Beans Carne Asada Rice Just simple, light, tasty, satisfying and most of all GENUINE. Be ready to eat some real good Mexican on paper plates with plastic wear. Oh well, life isn't perfect. No beer here either, but that's O.K., pictures don't do the food justice - nothing will you just have to try it for yourself! Clean staff and setting - all the food is laid out for you to see before you order sort of cafeteria style and all the ladies serving the food have their hair tied back with hairnets which I happen to think is very kosher and professional. When you get asked your choice for either corn or flour tortillas - you've got to try the flour!! I know I know corn is better for us and healthier but these flour tortillas are SO GOOD!!! They can't get any better than this, just this once won't hurt us!
(5)Sandy R.
Tacos-good.
(4)Michelle R.
Things I like about El Milagro: - Free parking - Mixed clientele - Casual, relaxed atmosphere with lots of families - They give you a full actual steak on your steak tacos - The cabbage salad - Everything is so tasty, yet so inexpensive - You place your order at the counter and they bring the food to you - It's clean - The employees wear hair nets and if they have beards, beard nets
(5)Amanda C.
I ordered the torta which was very reasonably priced. It was out very quickly. It was very tasty but they lose two stars for the cheap amount of avocado they put on it. I swear I opened it and had a half inch of a slice of avocado thinly cut on it. I mean really?! It's nice clean and casual place but they need to get the quality control UNDER CONTROL!
(3)Keith R.
This review is strictly for the Tamales, because they are magical. Pork tamales please, this is my standard yardstick for measuring Tamale greatness, El Milagro towers over all challengers. And this is economical eating, $1 per tamale. I could describe why their tamale is so darn good, but instead I'll tell you what makes other tamales subpar The other guys... masa not "cornbready" enough, tasteless, not enough meat, what meat they do have is missing that special chunk of fat, too expensive(anything more than a dollar is too much), the list goes on... In my everlasting search for the best tamale, El Milagro retains the belt. Best. Tamale. Ever. (so far.....)
(4)Amy L.
Buy the tortilla chips in a white box. You're welcome.
(5)tages t.
Just as good as the Blue Island location in Pilsen!! This location, I feel, does not run out of food as quickly as the Blue Island location and has a larger seating area.
(5)Kayee I.
A small group and I visited this location of El Milagro on a Saturday afternoon. The area is like a zoo--it's crowded. And, the parking lost is busy. Luckily, I was able to skirt my way into the lot before the gates were closed off to limit traffic. This location actually has a carniceria storefront where families lined up to pick up cooked meats in bulk. It smelled awesome. But, alas, that's not for dining in. However, step outside and next door, and you have a decent sized dining area and counter/cafeteria-style service. As you wait in line to place your food order, you end up staring at all of the delicious stews and meats available: guisado de res, lengua, chicken mole. I was pretty hungry so I ordered my usual dinner platter of beef stew that comes with 4-5 tortillas, a side of refried beans and rice, and a salad. Yep, it was as consistently good as the location in Pilsen. And, I ended up ordering a dozen of tamales ($11 for a dozen) that fed me for the rest of the week. I'd definitely recommend checking out this place, but perhaps on a weeknight for your parking sanity.
(4)PJ J.
Let me say this. The best steak taco in the world. The El Milagro factory is a Mexican food Mecca. Cafeteria style exists at Jimenez grocery stores, and at a few other ethnic groceries but what sets this place apart is how the folks here demonstrate how best to use the Chicago classic yellow El Milagro "paper bag" tortilla....Example, can you make a beef stew taco sturdy enough to hold together while you bite? You betcha. Can one construct a taco out of whole steak, rice, beans....and....slaw? You bet your arse. Can you put a whole, big ass, soufflé battered, sauced, munster stuffed, chile relleno on top of rice and beans into a taco? Mmmhmm, yup. Can you pick the m'effers up and eat them without destroying your outfit, rolling your eyes backwards, and breaking every diet rule ever written? I seriously freaking doubt it. The El Milagro taco is the King, the steak taco to end all steak tacos. To the initiated, this is not a Paco's, Pasadita, Arturo's, Trasposada, Etc. style taco...this is a tortilla trying to act like edible dinnerware. Chicago has El Milagro, Nuevo Leon, Maxwell St, the lakefront soccer league in Summer, countless elote men and tamaleros to fatten you up waaaay before you hit up Frontera and Topolobampo. I mention all these other super great places -but you will find the best damn steak taco ever at 26th and Albany.
(5)Chloe M.
I use to work at the CC jail and El Milagro was my favorite place to eat. So glad to see it has maintained it's integrity as a fantastic place to chow down. Can't wait to get over there and pick up some tacos!!
(4)Cindy D.
Mmm! I'm getting hungry just writing this and unfortunately El Milagro is already closed, but their short hours are the only thing I can complain about. Their chiles rellenos tacos are amazing. And that cabbage salad they put in the tacos is delicious. My years spent on the Northside had convinced me that Chicago was no place to find good Mexican food, but clearly I was just living on the wrong side of the city. Go here immediately, you will not be disappointed.
(5)Celina J.
Chicago is a very diverse city where you can get from American to Chinese food and anything in between. Little Village, a predominantly Mexican neighborhood has great restaurants that serve authentic Mexican food. When you come to Little Village it feels like you are in Mexico. There are plenty of great restaurants in the area, but one of the greatest restaurants down the famous 26th street is El Milagro Tortilleria. Walking in through the dark brown door that has some squares carved in with a black handle. When first entering there is a big Virgin Mary at the end of the room. It looks very beautiful and if you are Mexican it makes you feel welcome and at home. When standing in the entrance you can smell the meat cooking and a mixture of authentic Mexican food. Then you walk to the ordering area and they have the food displayed like a buffet type and you get to choose what you would like to eat. El Milagro Tortilleria has the best tacos in the whole Chicago area. The tacos at El Milagro Tortilleria are not the usual Mexican tacos that have the meat, cilantro, and onion. El Milagros tacos have double tortilla (they are very soft and chewy), they have meat of your choice (my favorite is carne asada), beans, red/orange rice, and a cabbage salad. The tacos are bigger than the usual tacos. When first trying to bite the taco you might have to hold it with both hands. Taking the first bite of the taco makes my taste buds tingle of enjoyment. You can feel the juice of the meat dripping. The meat is medium cooked, which makes it perfect because you can feel the great juice dripping down. Then you can taste the delicious cabbage salad that is sort of salty, but not too salty. These tacos will make your taste buds really happy for a while. They also have tamales that taste very good. The ones that I tried were the pollo con chile verde (Chicken with green sauce). The tamales are medium sized not that big so you might need a few to get full. They have about three to four small pieces of chicken on the inside with about a tablespoon of sauce. The sauce is mild spicey, but not enough to have a burning mouth and not be able to enjoy them. The outside of the tamale is very soft and moist like a tamale should be. These are very delicious and worth buying. The prices at El Milagros Tortilleria might be quite expensive if you have a budget. But the prices for the food are well worth it. The size and quality of the food are great. The cost of a taco is $3.10 and the price of a tamale is $1.20. The prices are not bad if you want good quality food and a decent size. The tacos and tamales are mouthwatering at El Milagro Tortilleria. So if you are in the mood for some tasty Mexican food I advise you to visit El Milagro Tortilleria. The service at this location is also another plus to visit this restaurant.

The best carne asada taco in the city. The best I ever had. Huge helpings on freshly made tortillas with homemade salsa. My wife lived in this neighborhood as a child and used to go as a little girl. She took me there for the first time on Sunday. Just amazing food. She went in to order because apparently it helps to speak Spanish when doing so. The carne asada tastes like it comes off the grill at a backyard cookout. It's the perfect balance of crispy char and meaty tenderness. As mentioned the tortillas are fresh because, after all, it's a tortilla factory. If you ask for rice and beans, they go in the taco. 2 were enough to fill me up until dinner. The salsa is excellent, fresh and spicy, but not overly so. We ate our food in the parking lot at the Tortilleria. Noon on Sunday, it gets busy as people stock up on tortillas.

Yikes...a taco joint....If you live in Chicago...you'll know that if you go to one taco place.....you've gone to all....but this place surprised me. They're steak tacos are great...no not great...EXCEPTIONAL! This place blew me away......a tad pricey...but you'll get your moneys worth. When you leave, don't forget to visit their tortilla shop next door for fresh tortilla chips for dirt cheap!

This place is like a fine, fine wine. My family has been going to El Milagro since before I was born. It used to be a humble little joint with bulls heads, a juke box, and cheap orange/ green benches to sit on. In all my years they have never ever disappointed. The food is AUTHENTIC which is a huge deal to my family. Even after moving to the suburbs we have lovingly returned over and over again. Its been so nice to see a hard working family become successful in a small business, expand, and create an empire for themselves (they are the only tortillas we ever buy) The decor is always beautiful and service is always fast!

Honestly the food that you get for your buck is beyond! You also have real mexican men and women cooking and who do what they do because of what they learned. I absolutely recommend this place, and I have also tried their location in Pilsen and it is just as good. The tacos de carne asada and guisados will make you slap your mammie cause they are so damn good! You can't go wrong if you want REAL down home mexican cooking. Just my abuelita use to make.

I am making a point of not giving out too many 5 star reviews. This place is up there when we are talking about top Mexican places in the Chitty. I recommend: Tamales : All flavors are bomb, I really am partial to the pina con nuez (pineapple w pecans) Chicken in Mole w rice and beans: I stay getting this on the regs. Shit is re donk. Chilaqullea Red Sauce: yeaaaah boy, imagine all the stuff you like about mexican food all mashed up in an easy to eat mush, sounds horrifying, but it is the BOMB. That is actually all that I have ever gotten from here so I have no idea if the rest of the menu is garbage. Even if it is those three items will keep the rating on this place up higher than your mom when she gets her govt. check.

I just wanted to write and say this places closes at 3 on Sunday now, we just tried going there and it was closed! The sign was on saying open, doors locked and parking lot shut..... So I had jury duty and decided to walk over on Monday and it was open, it did have a sign on the cash register saying they were closing early on Sun Jan 8th, which they should have had that sign facing the door so people could see it when they are trying to open the door...anyway got the veggie burrito however the girl thought I said carne asada burrito and I noticed it on my receipt and I went back to her and she is like oh ok and she is like you want cheese on there, thats the price difference, weird I was like yeah fine, it was a never ending battle it seemed like...burrito was good, i had a tamale too, that was not that great... Salsa was good however I could have used another little cup of it...

A friend and I worked with El Milagro to help out the French Club students at Juarez High School. I will say that our first contact with the employees/managers at El Milagro was flaky, at best. The first time my friend called they just said "Yeah, we can hook you up with some food" and then left it at that. They didn't provide any kind of price quote, guarantee of service, etc. It was really weird. Then we called a few more times only to get the runaround from employees and management. Let me just say that we got off on the wrong foot, for sure. It was really unprofessional and irritating to try and deal with people just pushing the inquiry on to someone else who couldn't deal with it. And then finally... success! We spoke with the manager and he finally gave us the information we wanted to hear: come pick up 25 dozen tamales, 20lbs of rice and 20lbs of beans tomorrow at noon! Awesome! It was about 24 hours before we wanted to have our fundraiser picnic, so that was cutting it close. However, El Milagro came through and hooked us up with some super tasty and awesome food for the students' After Finals Picnic outside the school. The food that El Milagro so kindly donated to our organization helped the students raise a ton of cash for the trip that they are taking to France and Spain next year - how cool is that?! It's an expensive trip and a donation of this kind really helped them start getting the first payment together. When we arrived at El Milagro to pick up the food, the staff were very friendly and worked quickly to gather everything for us so we could get on our way. They brought everything out to the car for us and even kindly loaded it up so we didn't have to do anything. Everyone was very friendly and kind and I'm really, really grateful that they could help our students out in this way. If you ever need food for your organization, call (or preferably go in to) El Milagro - they can hook you up with a ton of tasty food at low prices so you can have an awesome party for any group get together. I'm very happy someone suggested El Milagro because they really came through for the group and they provided us excellent food that everyone loved.

Mexican cafeteria very authentic food. Line was long Friday at lunch. Free parking. Horchata is very good and is two dollars. Legit! Portions for a KING! Great lunch...
(5)Mike F.
Carne asada here is what you want to get when you first come here. They have other different type of plates, but the asada is the highlight. You order via a kitchen line and the food is brought to you unless you're getting take out. The people there are attentive, but have limited English experience, so be patient especially if you want them to do something differently. The seating area is quaint, but you might find the Virgin Mary statue weird unless you're Mexican lol.
(4)Dan K.
Great grilled steak tacos! I like the handmade/homemade tortillas (burning hot) and the salsa. But the grilled steak was the best! Great taste and a better price. We enjoyed the grilled chicken and steak tacos. Steak were our favorite. My son really enjoyed the mexican stew taco. He thought the tomatoes used made it taste special (his words). The tamales... I enjoyed the masa harina, but that was about it. However, we only tried the pork with red sauce and the chicken. If I lived in Chicago, this would be a regular of mine. You can't beat the price and you get a lot of food. The atmosphere is what it is... Don't expect fancy. I wished I lived in Chicago again...

I love the El Milagro on Blue Island Ave. but this one is seems much more like a cafeteria without the charm and quaintness. The interior seems cheap and tacky without any thought about maintaining a tasteful decorum. This place is confusing and unimpressive however it does have a private parking lot. It is a busy place, one entrance seems to be just a line of people buying bulk El Milagro tortillas for personal home use. The other entrance is for the restaurant itself. While the food here is just as good as the Blue Island Ave. location, the ambiance surely isn't up to par and thus only worth four (4) stars in comparison.
(4)Elyse C.
Off the beaten path in Pilsen, you'd never know it was there unless you were going there specifically. I've never tried anything outside the chicken and steak tacos and I probably wont ever becaus the hype is true...perhaps the best tacos in the city! Minus one star for always being rude and awkward to me...I'm sorry I'm white and my spanish sucks...
(4)Santi D.
Dear El Milagro, just stick to making tortillas. Sometimes there's a reason certain companies should stick to their primary product and not try to venture out. When this place first opened over 10 years ago, I was impressed. Now it's bigger, more colorful, and crappier. The food is plentiful but definitely don't ask them to modify anything because apparently that's beyond the scope of their skill. If there's an item that comes in both tacos or the dish, they'll assume you want the dish so they can charge you more. Ask for just water, and they give you those small 6 oz plastic cups and point you to a nearby container. But what if I'm an adult and prefer a grown-up cup? Well, that'll cost you. And the agua de jamaica (hibiscus juice) tastes bland. No thanks, I can go somewhere else for second best.

All I can say was this was the best part of Jury Duty. You walk in and it looks like a cafeteria and you're kinda expecting something decent but not that great, then you're like, are they gonna find my table? Once the food is there, though, it's a whole different ballgame. I ordered 1 steak and 1 chicken taco. Holy crap, I didn't realize how big and scumptious they'd be. An entire breast of chicken on one taco and what seemed to be an entire steak on the other. Then on top of that, they use slaw as the lettuce. I'm not normally a huge fan of slaw, but these girls here know what they're doing. Now I tried to use my hands, and probably would of, if it weren't for the shame I would feel going back to the courthouse with my face and clothes covered in taco juices. Ha. taco juices. Anywho, one of the only times I've had to eat part of my tacos with a knife and fork, but at the moment it didn't seem strange at all. I would definitely go there again, and recommend it to anyone traveling through the area.
(5)Beebe G.
this is definitely as good as it could possibly get! had jury duty last wed and instead of going down to the second floor for the courthouse's probably mediocre food, i decided to walk a few shortl blocks to el milagro and i was so happy i did. i ordered the puerco salsa verde plate that comes with this cabbage slaw, rice and beans and tortilla and enjoyed every morsel! the flavors are out this world. the price points are extremely reasonable and it was an additional treat to have someone serenade me while i consumed my heavenly lunch. the ambiance is as if you were somewhere in a mexican pueblo. i also took home a variety of a dozen tamales which were all perfectly made. wow, i just can't say enough. and i have no problem and wouldn't mind going out of my way and coming back here again!
(5)Kelly R.
If you want to get beef steak, come to this place and get it! I have been living in Little Village all my life, and I never get tired of getting the beef steak dish (carne asada platillo) from Los Milagros to eat. This dish is authentic and not prepared with so much oil. Plus, this restaurant only charges this dish for about five dollars plus taxes. This restaurant also offers other dishes, such as chilaquiles and chile relleno.
(5)Dan M.
Very good for the price!
(5)brad p.
The only good thing about getting sent to the main court house for jury duty is that this place is a couple of blocks away. These were the biggest tacos I've ever seen -- and so delicious. The carne asada taco had to have been a quarter pound of meat. And the chicken taco was two full breasts with a lime glaze that was delicious. Both came with beans and slaw -- not just lettuce, but slaw -- and of course their corn tortillas. I also got a chicken tamale that was very good, but not as unbelievable as these giant delicious tacos. It almost made me want to get picked for a jury. And cheap too! $7 for the two tacos, tamale and water.

This is the absolute BEST Mexican restaurant in the city. Food is fresh. Simple. Well priced. Perfectly seasoned and proportioned. And the Staff is so warm and friendly. Highly recommended.
(5)Fred A.
This Mexican restaurant or taqueria, which is basically where you order your food up front and pay for it. Then they bring it to you, but if you want more you have to wait in line. Sometimes their lines can be so LONG!! Especially if I want another taco or tamale. Overall its really cheap. Their seats are decent. They have a moderate amount of decorations like the Virgen de Guadalupe. Their Arrachera tacos are not what I expected; seasoned with black pepper : / and cabbage. Overall its an okay place if you're at Little Village. They do offer free parking which is EXCELLENT. Saves you a couple of dollars.
(3)Lisa B.
DELICIOUS! Not a lot of veg. options, but that's the only negative thing I can think of besides El Milagro's unfortunate (or fortunate, for my waistline's sake) proximity so far away from my house. I had the cheese tamales and horchata. Both were some of the best I've had! Horchata was sooo cinnamon-y! The tamales hot, spicy! Highly recommended!

I've been coming to El Milagro since I was little. Thankfully they have remodeled it and so it doesn't scare off people when you pass by it anymore lol. There tacos de carne asada are great and every person I've taken has fallen in love with the tacos. I brought my friend in from Oakland, California a year and a half ago and he fell in love. He is coming to visit me again and asked to be taken to "that nice taco spot". I love their cabbage cole-slaw that is made without MAYO. Its placed in each taco along with rice and beans..... its not authentic taco but its a "PLATILLO" in a taco version. (at least that's what I tell people). Their Platillos de chile rellenos and their chilaquiles are great!!! You will never go wrong with having a platillo. The advantage of eating here is seeing great mexican artwork as well as seeing your food prepared for you right in front of you. There is a huge window where you can see your food and you just pick and choose. If you've never tasted any of the mexican drinks such as "horchata" (Rice Water) or Tamarindo, the servers will serve you a huge sample for you to try it before you buy it. The tamales in itself take the word DELICIOUS to a new standpoint. Ordinarily we have people that we have make our tamales but I will say that this place has awesome and unique mixes of tamales. I've never heard of coconut type of tamales and i'm mexican!! Def. worth trying out though, you'll be suprised at how good it is.....as I was! The speedy service is great if your on the go, but dine in is also great. It's is super crowded on sunday evenings but regardless a good place to go in to try out some good mexican food.

So I went here 40 minutes ago...I am fuming! I ordered six tacos with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. I drove all the way home to find that there was no cheese on my order. I called the place up to see what my options were (credit me my 3.00 towards my next order I thought) but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Literally what the manager said was "the girls say they put cheese" so I said well, I am looking at these tacos, I have removed the tomato, the lettuce, picked up the meat (it's not chopped, it's one slice of steak) and voila! there is NO cheese. None, not a little bit, its not melted its not a minuscule amount, there is just NO cheese! So, he tells me again well the girls say they added it. So I asked him if he thought maybe someone came into my car, into the bag, and stole all the cheese?!? I mean I am a sane person that knows what cheese is, there was no cheese, my kids know what cheese is "hey guys is there cheese on your tacos?" They just answered NO! So you say, why didn't I take it back? Because I live on the west side of Berwyn, I am not driving all the way back to Little Village! Never, ever going back there. I've had one other meal in Little Village, that was 20 years ago and I said I would never go back there...should have held my ground! I caved now I got sucky tasteless tacos (did I mention the meat is not seasoned?)... I hate today! This sucks! By the way their tacos are $2.79 each...like who charges almost three bucks for a taco, that was my fault for not looking at the menu board. I would've walked out had I seen that. And....can they be slower, I mean these girls were wrapping the food up so slow, like they didn't want to part with it, it's food it's not your friend, let it go...move already! Argghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
(1)erica m.
I love the food from here. I could probably eat a dozen tamales and the carne asada tacos are amazing. By far one of the best spots in Little Village.
(5)Jenni Q.
I lived on the southside for several years and can't believe my bf never brought me here until now! The tacos at this place brings back memories of backyard bbqs and lazy summers in Chicago. Nobody else does tacos the same way they do it here (except maybe your bf's mom)! I had the carne asada tacos: two huge slices of grilled steak on top of rice and refried beans on a corn tortilla. They don't chop up the steak here but the meat is so tender you won't have any problem just biting into it. I didn't really like how everything was stuffed into the taco so I will definitely get the plate next time (the steak, rice, beans and tortillas all come separately). just the way they have it at any Mexican bbq :) Also got the chicken/green sauce and cheese/pepper tamales which were one of the best I've tasted anywhere! They also had other kinds of tamales that you wouldn't usually see anywhere else - strawberry tamales anyone? The tacos weren't better than Zaca Tacos or Atotonilco's but for some reason, I found myself craving this place more than the other two. Will definitely be back...and soon!
(4)Tammy L.
I came here for lunch after jury duty one day and really liked the food. I had 2 of the bean/rice/cabbage tacos, which were very flavorful. I loved the slaw-type cabbage, as others have commented. I also picked up a dozen rajas/queso and bean/cheese/chile tamales to go, and they are delicious too! I know they probably aren't truly vegetarian, but I'm just going to look the other way on this one. :D Wish I had one of these around the corner from me....but then again, I guess my arteries are better off with it kind of far away! Service was friendly and there were lots of cops eating there, so you know it's good. I'd definitely come back!
(4)Yvette P.
Very authentic mexican food. The chilaquiles are perfect; available in red sauce (spicy) or green sauce (mild), I usually order a mix of both, and it's just perfect!!! It is cafeteria style, food behind the counter - been there many times and food is always fresh and tasty. Parking available in lot next tortilleria (where they make the tortialls fresh!!)
(4)Nicki Y.
Best authentic Mexican food in the area! Everything is good. My favorite is the chile relleno taco is the best I've ever had.
(5)otilia p.
This place by far has the best tacos EVER!!!! If all you know about mexican food is the kind that comes from taco bell then this is not the place for you. These are true authentic Mexican tacos and you can't get anything better than this place. The combination of beans, rice, seasoned steak and cabbage (coleslaw type salad) is heavenly. There's no other way to describe it. I wish there was a Milagro in the northside, but since this place is so unbelieavably good I definitely do not mind the hike down to the southside. My parents have been going to this place since the early 70's when it used to be called El Taco Parado, but then later changed the name to El Milagro. I've been coming to this establishment since I was a little kid and they have never changed the way they make their tacos. They stay consistent and this is what makes this place very special.
(5)Scott K.
I go to Cook County Jail on alternating Mondays, not for jail time but for ministry and during my drive I see numerous Mexicans restaurants and taquerias and have been wanting to try some out. I had two one criteria was an easy place to park preferably off street since I'm total looser when it comes to parallel parking and the meat was not pre-made with the icky onions . A friend who use to work in the area suggested several one of them being Taqueria El Milagro and so this past Monday I gave them a try and had a plato of Milanesa or more simply a plate of breaded steak in a tomato sauce. El plato (I love trying to speak let alone write Spanish) included rice and spicy refried beans. It wasn't the spice is nice dish I had my heart set on before arriving but it was yum to the tum nonetheless. I also had a strawberry churro that wasn't as crispy and tasty as I had hoped. The service was as good as one can expect in order from the counter type place. The eating area was clean The less then I expected in the churro and the less then expected 'spice is nice' stops me from getting to yelpie, but I will definitely return to try a few more of the items one being a mole chicken taco
(3)Tina B.
They have an extensive Lenten menu right now that is a freaking bonanza if you want the vegetarian and seafood options that are usually kind of hard to find: Tacos with zucchini, corn and chile peppers Shrimp tamales - so good Potato patties Fried potato tacos Mexican bread pudding And a variety of several different types of pepper and cheese combos And a myriad of fruity sweet tamales! Pineapple pecan, a bright pink strawberry one and coconut raisin! Most of them are more than fair in price - about $3 for a taco (that will probably be enough to leave you full) or about $6 for a plate (that will leave you real, real full) I also got the shrimp patties with cactus taco, which I wasn't really feeling, but I give them a lot of credit for it. It is really spicy (too much for me) with a red sauce and the shrimp has been chopped up and reformed into a patty - the texture and taste end up being a lot like meat - probably a welcome thing for people that gave it up for lent I'm guessing. Quesadillas are still AWESOME! Mmmm.....buttery cheese... PS - They looked at me like I was a crazy heathen for ordering and eating chicken on a Lenten Friday. I admire that. Or, you know, at least it made me smile some.
(5)Enrique F.
What can I say about this place. YUMMMMMMMY HUGE Chunk of meat on my tacos with beans and rice. It was good I order a burrito and tacos they were GOOD.
(5)Marissa P.
Best. Tacos. Ever. I'm not a fan of cabbage, but the seasonings they use on it make it pretty tasty. Did I also mention the hunk of meat they put on just one taco, accompanied by refried beans and rice? Out of all the taco places in Chicago this one ranks high!
(5)Beth M.
I finally ventured back to El Milagro (for real this time). It's hard to miss the huge mural on the east side of the tortilleria; the taqueria is just on the other side of it. They have the cafeteria-style warmers of food behind the sneeze-guard, but you can also order things at the counter. I got a vegetarian burrito (vegan without the queso or crema) for about $4.50. They were kind enough to let me add avocado at no extra charge (normally an extra 50 cents) since I left off the other things. The burrito is filled with plenty of flavored rice and refried beans, plus the typical lettuce and tomato. The pico de gallo is very mild - almost like gazpacho - but the chile salsa is pretty fiery. Proceed with caution if you aren't prepared to have burning lips. I noticed the aguas frescas after I ordered - limón, tamarindo, etc. Guess I'll have to try them next time...and there will be a next time for sure. I saw a lot of matador art around and I would like to enjoy the atmosphere while I dine sitting down and relaxing (for once). The burrito stayed warm all the way to the place where I teach, which is about a mile bus ride down the road. Pretty impressive wrapping. I was so happy that the flour tortilla did not get soggy either! I stuffed myself silly right before class, thus placating my usually growling tummy. No need for a late night snack, even.
(4)LAURA S.
I've been to alot of taco joints and this one, by far, is the absolute best!! The best steak tacos I've ever had in my life. Chili Rellenos tacos are awesome....tamales are fabulous!! The food is exceptional....my only complaints are: 1-They could really use a better ventilation system-it's very smokey and smelly in there. 2-Not offering free refills on beverages is kinda lame.
(5)Vivian Y.
Mmm...mind blowingly good Mexican food. SO FRESH - cafe style. I ordered the lengua (tongue) and it was "smacking" good!!! Highly recommended - but pricey for Mexican food. Two tacos and a fountain drink for $8.10??? Oh well it was delish. Head next door to get El Milagro's famous chips. A giant 3lb bag was $3.37 inclusive of tax!
(5)Lolita G.
Great carne asada tacos. Great tamales - just wish they would include salsa with the tamales without additional charge, especially if you order a few and the bean ones definitely need some extra salsa!!!
(3)Daniel H.
I wrote a review on the one in North Riverside Mall first, but this is the original one I fell in love with. I'm going to cheat and copy my review from there cause it is practically the same. The tacos are amazing. The steak tacos come with refried beans, rice, and cabbage. These aren't small chopped pieces of steak. They are full steaks. I personally love em without the cabbage, but thats just my taste. They cost somewhere under $3. I usually get 3 of these when I go. I've also tried the burrito (around $4.50?). I believe it comes with sour cream (on the side), lettuce, tomato, refried beans, rice, and cheese. Don't quote me on it, I've had it once. Lastly, the tamales may be the best available to buy. If I can't have homemade tamales by my mother-in-law, I'll take these any day. They are amazing. If you want to try these, get there early...or don't get your hopes up. I've gone several times only to find out they were all out.
(5)Heather K.
Viva El Miracle! Fresh, real food served Cafeteria-style (no waiting). A plated meal will run you around $7-8, but this isn't your typical taqueria style cheap eats...it is wholesome. Talk about fresh: the tortillas are made right next door, en la tortilleria (connected). Thus, you can walk in and buy corn tortillas and bagged chips right on the spot, for cheap...and keep in mind that this is a local venture. You can buy El Milagro chips and tortillas at the grocery store too, albeit at a small markup ($3 for an over-sized bag of chips; $1.30 for *three* 12 packs of small corn torillas...still very inexpensive). And, the tortilla factory smells wonderful...you can smell it across the street, all over the block *smile*. Once, when I was watching Rick Bayless' show, 'Mexico: One Plate at a Time', he broke out El Milagro chips to use in a dish, noting that "it is green to use local, preservative-free ingredients". El Milagro buys their raw corn from the mid-west, btw. As a side note: there's a large alter on the floor of the restaurant - an homage to The Virgin - complete with mutli-colored fake flower assortment. Awesome. There are some locations in Pilsen as well (restaurant only, no tortillerias). The only reason that I don't give The Miracle 5 stars is because even when you eat in, the chips aren't complementary (like a lot of other places). Also, they don't keep bottles of hot sauce on the tables.
(4)Adam C.
I was on jury duty and turned to yelp to find a good place to dine during lunch. This place did not disapoint at all. The spicy pork tamales were ahhmazing...and they only cost $1.00. Even better was the carne asada...probably about the best I have ever had. Only if they had a place like this on the North side...
(4)David P.
Great non-greasy tacos! I have been going there for years. Some don't like that they put rice and beans in the tacos but I like it. It's a great variation to all the other fast Mexican food joints in the area.
(4)Kim J.
I stopped in here for some lunch while on a break from jury duty at the courthouse at 26th and California. My choices were limited right near the courthouse, so I took a little stroll down 26th and found this little gem. The food is all cafeteria style, authentic, and super-tasty. I had a chicken dish in brown mole, and it was delicious. Not somewhere I'd go out of my way for, but definitely one of the better options in the area.
(4)Loretta T.
El Milagro has the BEST guisado de puerco en salsa verde! OMG delishhhhh!!! I've been going to El Milagro since I was a child... my Dad would take my Mom, sister and I on Friday nights. Now I take my daughter on the weekends. The food is great. The tacos and guisados are great! My nephews love the veggie tacos with beans, rice, ensalada de repollo. The tamales are also the best in Chicago!
(5)Mon R.
Es un milagro... mmm...
(5)Leah B.
The steak taco was rated the best in chicago. It has the unique pickled cabbage as a condiment on this taco but the flavor would not force a return visit from me. Nice eatery/restaurant but food was ok
(3)Richard G.
Good value for your dollar, giant steak asada on two tortilla's with a rice, beans and a Spanish shredded cabbage on top, just put some salsa and it's a meal, Very quick service and close to my work routes.

My husband and I went here just from the reviews from my fellow Yelper. I did it real simple and ordered three steak tacos and a chicken tamale. The steak tacos come with grilled steak, rice, beans and cabbage. Because I was not sure on how it would taste I order one taco with lettuce cheese and tomatoes. Let me just say that I did not need that other taco (I did eat it. It was good too). The way El Milagro make tacos is just great. I really liked it. All the favors just blend nicely and then top it off with the hot sauce. The meat was tender and the crunch of the cabbage was unexpected. The chicken tamale was very good as well. I don't know what else to say other than go get some.

This restaurant has the best tacos i ever had. It doesn't matter what type of taco you get (steak, breaded chicken, or stuffed peppers). There plates are just as good which include one main course of your choice, a side of beans and rice and a half dozen of tortillas, flower or corn. There's only two things i don't like which is that its in a very bad neighborhood....so you better take I-55 and get off on california to get there if you don't want to drive through the area. The other thing is that it can get quite expensive if your going pay for more then just your self.....but the food is great, that's all that matters.

I think I always screw up my order here....but since I've been here 6+ times its probably a two way street. There are better tacos at various places on 26th street....

Every time I ask my husband what he wants to eat he invariably says something along these lines: 1. tacos - any tacos (even "crappy" tacos as he puts it- it gives you an idea of his addiction level) 2. caldo de birria (for those of who are are not Mexican food obsessed it's a spicy goat soupy stew that is ubiquitous on the stalls of the Maxwell Street Market. No, goat is not that weird....they are just sheep with long hair) 3. anything if he is really desperate (which happens quite often) So after spending a few hours working in a coffee shop in Pilsen I decided that it was probably a good idea to stick with local flavors for an early dinner. So we headed to Little Village - just because I like to complicate my life when it's so easy not to.........and also because a couple of days ago I read the wonderful review of Tina B that literally made my mouth water (I superbly ignored the fact that my sweetie had already reviewed the place himself....what can I say....no excuse). Anyway - I was hungry for tamales and got three of them - chicken with salsa verde, chili pepper and cheese, and coconut-raisins. They were soft, warm, and so yummy...Reuben went for the tacos PLATES - one lengua and the other pork in salsa verde, a favorite of his. We also shared a serving of tortilla chips smothered in this same salsa and generously sprinkled with queso fresco....they were nothing short of fabulous. It's a very unassuming little place where you eat cafeteria style but with a shrine to the Virgin Mary in the back of the dining room - you are sure heading to a miraculous experience.

After walking what must have been six miles or so, I was decidedly in the mood for some nourishment. The first thing I noticed was a line out the door about 50 ft. down from the restaurant, which is the retail outlet for El Milagro. That sold me, so I walked on in and took a look at the menu posted overhead. There were several good options, but what got me was a tray of succulent chiles rellenos. I paid at the counter, cafeteria style, and was only set back just over $6! The chiles, which were truly delicious, came with rice, refried beans, corn tortillas and some sort of coleslaw (seasoned nicely with black pepper). Man, oh man. It was good! I'll be back...

Yes it's a dive-y restaurant in the middle of a very heavily Mexican-populated area, where if you and your party are not Latino or Hispanic or Chicano you'll be the only ones not in a 5-block radius. Yes it is served cafeteria style, so at first glance the food looks like unappetizing stew from your gabacho cafeteria lunch line. But get a platillo of the chicken mole, or the lengua de res (beef tongue), sop up the sauce with the joygasmically good handmade corn tortillas and you'll tuck into some of the most authentic, flavorful, belly-happy food you'll have had for a long time. Mind you, there won't be any queso on the menu, it's not that kind of place. And it helps if you can speak Mexicanese. She gave me extra rice and salad since I asked not to have any beans on my plate. I paid $13 for two people, and that includes drinks. Amazingly good.

A meal in a taco. I've been eating here since I was a kid. Parents live in the neighborhood and brought some over today. Tacos are HUGE, they're filled with beans, rice and a peppered cabbage slaw. Don't need any sides if you're going for tacos, and really you don't need more than one or two tacos. I can only eat one and that's enough for me.

Taqueria El Milagro is great! The steak taco plate was fantastique- prices are cheap, the tortillas are delicious. I've missed Californian Mexican food since I moved here to Chicago last year, but this place fulfilled every wish.

My first visit to El Milagro was a Saturday afternoon and was it busy there! The place is set up cafeteria style but the tacos are made to order. There were no menu signs and it was so busy that no one really helped us on how or what to order so we just got tacos asadas with beans and rice...well I have been to many a mexican restaurant and was not expecting the beans and rice to be "on" the tacos...but they were awesome!! They had shredded cabbage and some salsa to put on....great tacos. And the tortillas made next door...fresh fresh fresh. The meat was tasty too...The second time we went was during the week in the middle of the afternoon and my son was with me who spoke to the ladies behind the counter in spanish and we got a very detailed explanation on how the place worked. The tacos are huge too so two should fill you up! The prices were decent too....about 15$ for the both of us with sodas. Oh and as a side note...I like how the place was decorated...it had some pieces from a catholic church...seats and the three doors for the confessionals and what looked like the bowls for the holy water. The ladies bathroom was cool too.... a huge ornate mirror on the wall when you enter and these cool sinks that were too beautiful to be sinks....painted with flowers and blue stones...strange I know as a restaurant review but I liked it...it added charm!

When i was first went to El Milagro i was not really sure about it because their tacos have beans, your choice of meat and rice in them and i didn't like the way that sounded. But when i took a bite of it for the first time it was like a little fiesta in my mouth then to top it off you wash down with an agua de hortcha mmmm....... Delicioso!! These tacos are the best. I really don't eat at Mexican restaurants because i can get the same thing at home that is much better but El Milagro is one of the greatest Mexican restaurants I have been to. The price is worth it. Their nachos are good as well but they are not your typical nachos. They have this green salsa and then they crumble queso fresco on top of them with a little but of Mexican sour cream. El Milagro is in the Mexican little village which may also be known as 26th street. I like coming here during the summers on Sundays after church because everyone is out and walking around. I recommend this restaurant for anyone who are willing to try something different.
