Started off with a orange jarrito followed by a vegetarian burrito. There has always been a very laidback give to this place ever since I first started coming here, back in 2002. Prices are extremely reasonable and the server was very attentive. Will definitely return if the opportunity presents itself.

Not an amazing melange of unanticipated flavors or anything like that, but (coming from Texas) it seemed legit and very fairly priced - especially compared to many other North side Mexican spots. And it's not even cash only. The burrito is HUGE. The tacos are smaller and straightforward, with flavorful meat.

If you're looking for a vegetarian burrito, they do have one but...There's really, no vegetables in it. Yes, it has the usual, tomato and lettuce but, that's it. Avocado, is extra $. It does come with some beans. When you ask for rice and they say yes, there isn't any rice in it. So, it's a nice size, a nice price but, all it has in it is: Tomatoes, too much lettuce that's rather slimy, mealy tomatoes and a TON of beans. :(

It might be hard to tell that this branch of El Famous Burrito is open from the street, but it's worth going inside to enjoy a smooth and cool horchata paired with tacos and a filled churro. I got lengua and al pastor tacos - the lengua was solid but nothing special while I was pleased by the juiciness and flavor of the al pastor. I couldn't detect any pineapple though :(. The churros weren't exactly fresh waiting in the hot case but no worse than the churros at Costco. Service was very friendly.

Happen to go on a Tuesday when they had $1.50 tacos. Yes! I had the steak tacos and that was good as far as value for money. My hubby had the steak burritos with guacamole and he said it was probably one of the best in the Evanston area. Finished the meal with a churros. Food was quick and service was with a smile. Would recommend to friends and planning a trip back.

I've loved this place since the 1990s. It's not upscale Mexican, and it's a little lacking in vegetables variety, but it's a special place to me and my family, and I don't think you can find a better value anywhere. I recently learned that two cooks come every morning (one of them since the 1990s) to prepare the homemade red enchilada sauce, the horchata, the beans, the rice, the salsa verde, etc. from fresh ingredients, and it's all simple and delicious. The chile relleno burrito is heavy duty and filling but incredibly tasty. Or the tacos! I'm a big guy and a single $2 chile relleno taco fill me up. The sopes are good too. Fast, homemade, delicious, and friendly staff!

we ordered the 3 taco dinner (fish , pork and chicken). the Chilean was so so . the fish pretty decent - good but not wow. The pork tacos however were AMAZING. The meat was well flavored and the tacos really fresh . Overall pretty decent place with really good pork tacos

This my friends is not El Famous Burrito. I have been eating El Famous since the 90s. Ive been to El Famous in Vernon Hills, Wheeling, Glendale Heights, Lombard and Orland Park. There is a consitancy to the food at every location. They are all amazing and wonderful. The food at this El Famous is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than those, and not in a good way. EVERY other El Famous has unique ways of prepping their food. The nachos at suburban stores are literally the best nachos I have ever had. They are baked tostadas, with layers of all the ingrediants, cut so every chip has a full and equal amount of every ingrediant. The nachos at THIS El Famous are just the same old. Mediocre chips with the ingrediants slopped on top. Was this a 1 star restaurant, no. Had it not been called El Famous Burrito, I would of proboly given it 2 stars. However it is El Famous Burrito and I went there excited, expecting the same quality of food I have had at every El Famous I have been to since I was a kid. I brought a friend there after raving to her for months about Famous. This is NOT El Famous Burrito. This is just another taco shop, and not a very good one at that.

I got the fish taco, shrimp taco, veggie tostada, some horchata, and a churro. All tasty! My favorites were the fish taco and horchata. Veggie tostada is great for vegetarians, with big pieces of avocado and beans. Great service too.

Veggie burrito with a whole chile relleño stuffed inside, and there's still room for cheese and beans and lettuce and tomato and rice and avocado and cilantro and onions in that huge shell. For like 50 cents more, pour some enchilada sauce on top with sour cream and more cheese. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Plus there are awesome taco options-carne asada, bistec, chile relleño, lengua and more. You can get fries with something. Or chips. Green and red salsa with everything. Cheap as hell. Great people working there-they take care of you! Plus they are always happy to see me. Maybe we're friends now. Summary: cheap, great Mexican food in Rogers park. Classic place, good people. And the torts bread is something to die for

I found this place from my work because this is where we take clients out to eat. They are amazingly friendly and very supportive of the client's needs. Apart from the exceptional service, this is your standard restaurant. There is a tv, restrooms are clean, and ample seating. The food is excellent and the deals are great. I would recommend getting the burrito special. I shall continue to dine here in the future.

Just stumbled in last night for the first time. Delicious tacos for a great price. I've had a lot of tacos on Clark; these are bigger than most and particularly flavorful. The beans and rice were good too, and you can get orchata for your drink, instead of soda, which surprised me. The chips and sauce were better than what I am used to -- thin and not too salty, and green sauce was particularly good. he said they make the chips themselves, but I doubt it. Looking forward to going back soon.

Veggie Burrito with fries. Green & Red salsa on everything. I have been here more than 100000 times in my life... probably some of the best Mexican food in Rogers Park. My only caution is that I mostly eat the vegetarian food so I don't have very much feedback on the meat quality which keeps coming up in different reviews...However, I am part Mexican and I know that the American palate has different taste when it comes to meat (ie only white meat chicken) So some of the negative reviews on the meat could be because in Mexican culture they follow the waste not, want not principle. Ok now go eat some Guac!

This is a fantastic hole-in-the-wall authentic Mexican joint. Stopped here for lunch today while I was in town for business and got the carne asada and pork burrito. It was delicious! If you're craving Chipotle, head here instead! As far as I'm concerned, cash only = authentic deliciousness. Five stars because my lunch was om nom nom.

I went here on a Taco Tuesday, which was the best decision ever! I ordered the bistec, al pastor and pollo tacos, all with cilantro and onions, with chips and salsa and a side of guac. The tacos were all amazing, my favorite was the al pastor, it was juicy and very flavorful. They really do pack the tacos with meat so for just $1 each, it was a great deal. The chips and salsa were good too, the chips were salted nicely and the salsa had a good spicy kick to it. The guac is priced at market price so I don't really know how much I paid for it, but it was so delicious that I just wish I had gotten more. I will for sure be back here so Taco Sundays too!

I used to go here regularly for the burritos and the steak nachos. But lately the food has been sub par. The quality of the meat has declined and the food is made like they are trying to cut cost. There are way too many Mexican restaurants in that area for this place to let the quality of their food slide like it has lately. No more El Famous for me. I had to throw it away it was so bad.

$1 tacos (steak, pork, chicken, and beef) on Tuesdays and Sundays. Kenny O. and I came here on Superbowl Sunday, so we got a bunch of tacos to go. I didn't get any of the $1 tacos though. I got chorizo and lengua tacos. The chorizo was a little too dry for me. It also wasn't very flavorful. It was also as if they forgot to add salt. The lengua taco tasted a lot better. It was more flavorful, but I'm still not a fan of it.

Mmm love their food salsa could be a little more home style in my personal opinion but I still love it. No bad comments just constructive criticism great daily deals !

Their chicken tacos with the corn tortillas are delicious! They load them up with a ton of meat. Two-taco dinner with a drink for under $7: great deal! Consistent and delicious, affordable food... and you get your meal super quick, every time.

Don't get the beef here. SO greasy, and I felt sick after eating it. I've been here tons of times, and everything is usually pretty good. The food is cheap, portions are decent, and it comes out quickly. If you dine in they give you chips and salsa.

Good lord, how do I miss those huge Burritos and fresh tacos!!! I'm in Jackson, MS and all we have is tex-mex - where the mexican food is all like El Chico's - slathered in american cheese and paprika and they call it authentic mexican! Be grateful you have an El Famous close to you - because when you go to places like Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee - you will miss it! Please open a location in Jackson, Mississippi!!!

El Famous is the best Mexican restaurant in Rogers Park. Hands down. If I were talking about Latin American cuisine, I would make that claim for Taste of Peru. But I'm not. I'm writing this review for anyone that has reservations about where they should get their Sunday night tacos. From me, they get 5 stars because these guys have been serving me and my family authentic fast-casual Mexican food for a very long time and they've been doing it right. Everything from their junior burritos, to their filling tortas, to their frijoles con queso---I'm telling you, you need to go here at least once if you're ever in the Rogers Park neighborhood. I'm giving them the highest scoring possible because I'm comparing their friendly service and excellent food to the many Mexican restaurants in this area.To me, the guys at El Famous are not just making tacos, their happily feeding their customers with pride. They like what they do, because they KNOW they do it well. I'm not going to lie; I feel like these guys are my distant cousins who just happen to make the best tacos in the city. So, yes, their steak tacos ARE tasty, their horchata DOES taste like melted vanilla ice cream and their churros are always SUPER fresh. This summer they've been selling their churros from a cart outside the storefront to catch the folks that walk by on their way to the Metra. Very smart idea. They really know how to engage with soon to be customers and repeat taco-lovers like me. :P Make sure to go on Sundays and Tuesday so you can get those tacos for a $1 each! Tell them Jenni O. sent you :)

Good place for Mexican food. The staff is nice and friendly. The dollar taco days are the best. Tacos are really good and they are only a dollar which is nice. The parking is kind of a hassle because of it being on the streets and stuff. It is a good place to eat good food. Would recommend it to anyone.
(4)
Timi C.
Dollar tacos on Sunday and Tuesday! The pork tacos are kind of gristly and oily, but my favorite of all the options. Not the best steak tacos. Churros are great for dessert! Sometimes they give you free chips/salsa if you eat in. Sometimes they don't. Not sure what the rule is on that one.
(4)
Ali C.
really great burritos and guacamole. They don't put rice in their burritos which is great - less carbs and more protein. This is a small family owned restaurant - a hidden gem. Their guacamole and salsa are both home made with chunks. The burritos are huge and can be shared by at least two people.

Huh? What the? Are you serious, Yelpers? Wow, you have failed me!!! What an epic let down of monumental proportions! OK, maybe I am being a bit dramatic, but for real, this food was awful. We ordered a bunch of tacos - beef, chicken and pork. The pork was meh, but edible. Chicken was blah, but the beef was BARF CITY. I don't even think my dog would eat this taco, the quality was below Taco Bell. Even the salsa was horrible. :/ So listen to me, do not go here, you are wasting your money and in a city of ours you can find so many BETTER Mexican restaurants.

The BEST vegetarian burrito! Most places are so skimpy, but this place loads it with avocado, rice, beans and veggies. Friendliest service in Rogers park! Can't get enough of it. Oh yeah, their salsa is also the best anywhere! And my kids love stopping for churros outside.

The guys that work here are really nice guys (and gals). Who else is nice at 3am when a bunch of drunk people are trying to order mexican food. This place is all about the snack attack. Huge burritos that are easy to pick up and eat without much mess (important if you are just coming back from a night out and still have your club attire on). They have a burrito and fries combo! Get the bottled coke imported from Mexico with real sugar! Or get the horchata, the sweet rice water drink that will refresh and delight without being to heavy (since you are all ready eating burrito and fries). That's all I usually get here. the price is about right, and you will definitely be satisfied. The most authentic, but that doesn't mean it doesn't taste like good Mexican food. Eating in is okay, the seating is standard and the ambiance is just cafeteria-ish. But they are fast when you need to do carry out. Friendly people, delicious loads of Mexican food, open late. I think I'm craving a burrito right now!

Cute male cashier!! (Wife speaking, not the husband, haha) Drank up my horchata and ate my steak taco. For $1 per taco tonight, not bad! :)

Their tacos were crap, but I grabbed them on a Sunday, so they were $1. I understand that a lower price means lower quality, but I wouldn't take that deal again. They also got my order wrong (I got two steak tacos instead of the two chicken I ordered). Plus side: their salsa is good.
(3)
Daniel C.
I went here last week and picked up 2 tacos (pork and chicken) and frijoles. The prices were right. The portions were great. I was able to take it out quickly and I enjoyed the meal. I will be back. Sunday / Tuesday they have $1 tacos!

i have been coming to El Famous for many years. the food is very reasonable priced and tasty. in the last year or so i have noticed that they have been putting less steak in my burrito but thats a little complaint. the wait staff is very nice and the place is always clean when i have been there.

I ate here for the first time after looking up "steak" in my area and seeing this come up as the first result. I think it just so happened people were mentioning the steak tacos in the reviews, causing me to stumble upon this Mexican place. It's fast casual and I ate in. I got 5 tacos for $1 each (I learned about the $1/taco deal being available Tuesdays and Sundays from other Yelp reviews) and my fiancee got the 3 enchiladas deal. I tried every meat available for their tacos (chicken, beef, steak, and pork) and thought all were good except the steak, which I found flavorless. The pork was the best. The tacos were not big, but each was housed in two tortilla wraps, one of top of the other, and was packed to the extent that the contents spilled out upon picking it up. They didn't skimp on the meat. I tried some of the enchiladas and they were really good too. The food came out very fast after I ordered, in less than 5 minutes. Next time I go, I'm getting more pork and no steak. Although I haven't been to many Mexican places, this is one of the best I've had. One star is docked for the bland steak. Usually, steak is my favorite meat in tacos and burritos, but it's simply not very good here. I'm looking forward to trying some other things on their menu.

Heaven wrapped in foil. That's El Famous Burrito. Tonight was my second adventure here and it was as heavenly as my first time. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I had the steak burrito again and it was Yum Part Deux. I added guacamole because... why not? Awesome. Last time I had a junior burrito and had a tamale too. The tamales were fantastic. I'm super jealous of the folks that live around here. Our local taco/burrito places suck in comparison.

"Hey, my friends . . . who needs a fork?" When I lived in Rogers Park with my brother, this was at least a weekly nosh. And a stop after a night of imbibing. One of my brother's friends, famously, consumed TWO Burrito Suizas at one sitting (may he RIP). My brother's girlfriend, now wife, once ordered a Vegetarian Burrito here, while we teased her unmercifully "WTF is that, a lettuce burrito?!". She's now back to being an omnivore and they've been married for 15 years. Was it the El Famous magic? Can't say, who knows! Steak Burrito or Al Pastor is my usual order. Delish. Everything's pretty reliably fresh, quick and delicious, and even now I get an occasional craving that brings me up to the ole hood. Who needs a fork?!
(4)
Emily C.
Taco Tuesdays here is a weekly routine at my place. $1 for reasonably stuffed steak, chicken, pork, or beef tacos. Personally I go with steak--seems like the best deal to me--but the pork is cooked in delicious sauce, and the chicken is hearty. And now they have $1 tacos on Sundays (at least I think that's a new thing--I miss Taco Tuesday for two weeks and all this new stuff happens!). On Sundays they're open til 11pm (woah) and Tuesdays til 1am (oh god!). Tuesdays are always packed so the best choice is to call ahead about ten to twenty minutes, and when you arrive you'll be able to sidestep the hungry queue and walk out, as opposed to waiting around in the crowded dining room (aside from Taco Tuesday patrons, there are usually several people eating at tables).

This is my favorite of the Rogers Park taquerias, which is really saying something, as there are about two dozen within a half-mile stretch of Clark Street. The late, lamented mc quake strongly recommended this place, and he is a much more expert source than I. The food is solid and they are 100% gringo-friendly. Actually, they are just plain friendly. If you dine in, they actually bring the stuff to you. And they smile. And speak! (Not just grunts.) They also give you free chips and salsa. The grub is hot and fresh-cooked whether you are getting "for here" or "to go." I tend to get burritos here, because a burrito is a manly, strenuous piece of food. (Like, imagine me flexing my guns before picking it up, and then growling after taking a bite.) Their tacos are good and they happen to give you a lot of meat here, but face it--tacos are a snack...a burrito is a meal. Pork is their best meat, flavorful and cooked pretty close to perfect. The chicken and steak are skippable, frankly. The steak is tough and dubious, and the chicken is dry and occasionally contains a piece of bone. The ground beef is actually better than you'd expect, tasty and not at all greasy. The red salsa is better but the green is still okay. They have decent meal specials for six bucks--you can't beat that. Or just eat the manly burrito. Or mix and match a few tacos. Whatever you fancy. I need to try their enchiladas because that is my favorite Mexican food item. And their guacamole (hmm, I need a return visit again already). And they have a few breakfast items too. Oh yeah, and their churros are GREAT!

This place is really hit or miss to me. One day, the asada is fresh and firm with a great charred flavor, and the next day is mushy and bland. Clean facility and friendly service is a constant though. Overall, one of the better burritos (if you're there one a good day) in Rogers Park. Good french fries too!

You are probably wondering why I would go to a place named "El Famous Burrito". Well, it's the same reason that I would go to a place named "Number 1 Nails": cheap, good [insert product here]! And, because I didn't have a vote in the lunch food poll. I asked for the chicken taco platter. There were 3 gristle, ahem, chicken tacos with some sort of bbq sauce and shredded lettuce. There might have been some cheese, but I am not exactly sure about that. The chicken was, well, gross. I can see why it was covered in this weird, tasteless bbq sauce. The refried beans were not refried. They were not fried either. They were more like whole beans in some sort of sauce made of themselves; they were meta-beans...uh, yeah. The rice was eh although it did have some veggies in it. The corn tortillas were nice, but they just could not carry the whole 'dish'. I shoved 2 tacos down my throat (I was taking notes during a day-long retreat and was trying to eat, take notes, participate, make sure my puppy was okay). I should've stopped after I thought, "Was that gristle? What the hell is gristle doing in my taco? Grody." And then I should've stopped after I thought, "Wow. Was that more gristle? I am totally yelping this." Although I did take the beans, rice, and taco for later, I decided to trash it even though I felt guilty. The rest of the crew had burritos the size of a really, really large burrito. They seemed to like the burritos. Wait...I get it. Of course my tacos sucked because I didn't go to "El Famous Taco"! Sheesh. What a dummy. Author's Note: I hesitated posting this review because of the number of good reviews. Apparently I ordered the wrong item or went on the wrong day...

For the money, the best burrito is the steak dinner suiza style (a mild red sauce with melted cheese on top). Hard to beat this place for a cheap date. The nacho plate is very good too. In this case, 2 full satisfied customers for $15.
(5)
Aktionman D.
went back to see if the cheap owner changed his policies. but no, still not smart about attracting & keeping customers. nickel & diming for extra salsa & lettuce. like i said before....i do like their food, but refuse to be squeezed for little extras. with 10 other mexican joints up & down clark st. that don't treat their regulars like that.....this owner is clueless.

$1 tacos on Tuesdays and Sundays. Nuff said! I'm not giving them 5 stars because I have had better tacos, but for the price, these are outstanding!
(4)
Rachel R.
I'll just reiterate what my fellow reviewers have said: - $1 taco Tuesdays and Sundays - We've all had better, but for the price they're excellent - I like their chicken tacos and their burritos are definitely worth the money. Definitely better for take out, the interior isn't super fantastic.
got sick twice..yup...upset me enough to write a negative review... sorry guys...

Mr. N and I had talked about getting Mexican food today, you know, with it being Cinco de Mayo and all. He found this place on Yelp (thank you!) and a 5 minute Metra ride later, we were wandering down Clark. This was quite the adventure for me. There was a lady selling inflated animals and ball on the street, stores with some tacky looking dresses and questionable mannequin poses in the window, groceries advertising really cheap produce (I'll have to go back there later for some shopping)... you get the idea. What a fun neighborhood! Anyway, I didn't get the famous burrito. I am a lover of tacos, so I ended up with: 3 tacos al pastor, 1 fish taco, 1 chorizo and egg taco, 1 tamale and a 32 oz. horchata. This is far too much food for one person to consume by the way. Mr. N got the steak burrito suiza. The horchata was delicious, not overwhelmed by cinnamon and nice and rice milky tasting. The tamale was filled with chicken and most importantly, moist. I HATE dry tamales. Topped with lots of spicy salsa verde that is brought out in a bottle = mmm!!! The tacos al pastor were good, not my favorite. I am truly devoted to the tacos al pastor at El Quijote as the ones there taste like the pork was cooked on a grill and these were more of a juicier, braised pork with lots of fatty bits. The chorizo and egg taco tasted mostly of egg, which is never a bad thing, as I regularly make 4 egg omelets for myself. It would have been better with more flavor from the chorizo. But my favorite taco by far was the fish. It was simply two pieces of breaded, fried fish with some pink sauce on it. So simple, so delicious. I couldn't even stomach a bite of the burrito because I thought I would explode, but the thing was enormous. The rice and beans were good. They also do a great cinnamon sugar dusted churro. The place is clean and the guy at the counter was really nice. You get free chips and salsa with your meal that can be paid for with a credit card. Hooray. It's close to the Metra and 22 Clark bus. Did I mention our meal only cost 25 dollars? Cheap! Even less if I hadn't ordered so much food, but I do have tacos in the fridge for later. Yippee! I will be back El Famous Burrito!

Taco Tuesday! Always delicious and always quick. Great guacamole and fresh salsa. Yum.

Steak is hit or miss here, I've had a few tacos/burritos with too much gristle, but sometimes it's realllly good. Personally, I've learned to go with the pork, they spice it up really well and it's always tender. The chicken is forgettable. If it isn't a $1 taco day (Tuesdays and Sundays I believe), stick with the burritos.

I don't know if it is the same ownership or not but I have been eating at this place for over 25 years. They had huge burritos that filled me up when I was a broke teenager and they still have them! The service is good, there are about a dozen tables that you can sit down and eat at. I usually get the food for takeout when I go there but I have eaten there as well. When I have gotten the food to go the wait is usually minimal. The tacos are excellent! Reminds me of Tacos al Carbon that I used to get in Arizona. Tuesdays and Sundays the tacos are $1.00! That's when my family and I usually come and get a bunch of tacos. The enchiladas, rice and beans are all really good too! I haven't tried much besides the burros, enchiladas and tacos but I plan to on future visits.
(4)
Gregg T.
This place is a totally unpretentious, solid neighborhood joint. Service is far superior to my expectations; you order at the counter, but if you're staying, they sit you down w chips and salsa (and the salsa is not bad at all). The tacos and burritos are good, and a very good value. I've had an off experience or two here, but overall the service is what sets them apart from other hole-in-the-wall places.

Best Mexican food in Roger's park. Tuesdays and Sundays they offer $1 tacos. Amazing fresh salsas as well. I recommend the rice water or mexican coke for a drink. You can't go wrong here.

Love coming here on $1 taco nights! My only concern is their lack of consistency. Some nights they are right on the spot, other nights the meat is too greasy or lacking flavor.

OMG, Love El Famous. I work down the block, and my division regularly comes here on Thursdays - "Burrito Day." The counter guy, Alejandro, knows all of us by name, has a our table set up when we come in, and is super attentive to everything we need. He always brings us extra chips and salsa, and our orders are made perfectly every time. The chicken and al pastor burritos are to die for, but personally I prefer the Veggie since it's slightly lighter. Try asking for it crispy, they'll grill the burrito for thirty seconds so that the shell is slightly hardened. They'll also throw in jalapenos, onion and cilantro at no extra charge. The red salsa is sweet with the right touch of cilantro, and the salsa verde is made in house so it varies in spiciness. You can always see the cooks working hard in back as well.

Last week, we were taco whores. My friend and I had 7 tacos each, 4 steak and 3 fish for me alone. I'm from the south side of Chicago and we travel up north for some $1.00 tacos on Sundays and Tuesdays. Where can you get anything for a buck that delicious? I also had a large horchata and I was a happy camper. They have steak, fish, choritzo, and pork tacos. I went to the one on Madison and it's was not as good as this one. The one on Madison has tacos for $1.50 on Sundays.

I had excellent shrimp tacos, and the salsa was memorably delicious.
(4)
Michelle W.
Pretty good! I had the pork tacos. The pork was deliciously flavored. The "tacos" were served on open double tortillas; not taco shells. Sort of odd. Also, if you want sour cream or guacamole with your food, be prepared to pay extra. Yeah...I had a side of refried beans with the tacos. Really flavorful--yum! Btw, their red salsa is really hot! I'd stay with the green (already on the table) if you prefer something milder. And be sure to try the horchata (sweet rice water) to drink!
(3)
jon f.
The food is ok. The beans taste like it came in a can. Also there were gang members everywhere and they were giving me and my friend dirty looks when we left. Maybe its because we came at night or something but I don't think I'll go again because I don't want to get shot.

$1 tacos on Tuesdays and Sundays! The quality depends on how busy they are. The service is good though. The cashiers brought me chips and salsa while I waited for my food.

I really liked this place. It was fast, it was cheap, the service was great. The way I scarfed down those enchiladas and didn't get heart burn... yeah.. And I took a dozen warm churros to work. Win.

I've had much, much better burritos at many other Mexican eateries in Chicago, but El Famous Burrito is cheap, friendly and fast. Also, the burrito was not as large as previous reviewers have described. I'll go back, but only for convenience, not quality.

Our second visit (for carry-out) reinforced our first impression: good cheap eats - a true value in terms of both quality and quantity - plus a very warm and English-friendly staff (and for some reason - maybe the creative visualization/meditation thing??? - I always find a parking space right in front - and usually with a quarter's worth of time left on the meter!) Anyway, I'm a quick study and had refined my menu choices: Chile Relleno "combo" - which meant adding steak to the otherwise veggie burrito (not the same as "double meat" - which I can't even fathom!) Tres, tres yummy! A couple of Fish Tacos - which though a tad soggy - were still very delish - even several hours (in the fridge!) later and then briefly reheated. 12 oz, of the yummy red salsa (which came with a bag of warm chips.) And finally (sigh) one diappointment: an Egg and Chorizo Sope - which was kind of awful... (and tasted like it had been made the day before...) Still, all in all, El Famous is definitely "a keeper."

Admittedly, I'm not deeply versed on Mexican cuisine and area restaurants. Chipotle used to seem 'authenticate' to me, and maybe is when only compared with Taco Bell. I've made quite a step forward, though, and I think El Famous is not only a better eatery but would probably get the approval of even the most die hard taqueria-goers. I started to frequent in spurts for awhile, and my face became known by the cashier(s) and was met with a nice greeting each time. The menu seems typical and what you'd expect. I usually go for the taco meal which comes with rice and beans on the side. It's blissful. They also give you chips and salsa to eat if you dine-in, but they offer take-out if you're busy and aren't enticed by chips and salsa. The green salsa is great, by the way, it's basically potable. It's not the place to go with a date you want to impress, unless your date considers burritos an aphrodisiac. I hear some women and men do, it must be symbolic or something? I digress. It's my Mexican 'place' and could very well be yours too if you give it a try. Me Gusta!

I have to agree the Chili Relleno burrito is good ( minus the lettuce) Burritos shouldn't have lettuce in them. I recently tried the carne asada (steak) burrito and it was OK, the meat had too much fat. The red and green salsas are really good though! The Horchata is not the typical rice-water-cinnamon drink, it taste more like vanilla ice cream?

My buddies and I consistently went there when we were all undergrads at Loyola. Fast forward twenty years. Stopped there the other day for a steak burrito and it was to die for. Couldn't even wait to get it home. Started eating it in the car as I sat parked on Greenleaf. Hot, tasty and plenty of meat. A+. Haven't ever had anythng except the steak burrito, so I'll leave it at that! Very nice staff also.

Tuesday is $1 tacos.. what more can I say?? This place is packed on the regular and even worse on Tuesdays. They have a great menu, but steak is always my choice either taco or burrito. They also have great churros that I have to suggest. Good service and usually quick. This is a stop I make all too often.

Cheap, delicious, greasy Mexican food. I wish it were closer to my place. Only been there once, but plan on going back weekly. Couldn't leave the place empty handed, so I got a pint (I'm not kidding you, it comes in a 16 oz. plastic drinking cup) of their delicious salsa and chips for only $4. Insane. I downed the pint of salsa on my way home.

We were enticed in by $1 taco Tuesdays, and I can say that we will be back. 4 tacos, two orders of rice, and order of beans, two drinks, a Mexican coke and a churro to go...$14. The people working were very nice, the space clean...and the food was really good!

I have to admit, this is one of the first restaurants I ate at in Chicago. Then I ended up staying over the summer and I ate here a lot. I liked it because I could order chips and salsa and a glass of milk. Yeah, that was weird of me, but it was what I wanted and they didn't bat an eye at it. They definitely have problems now and then. I picked four stars because Yelp defines that as "Yay! I'm a fan." - and I am. But I also have to admit they're far from perfect. I took a friend there once and watched as a cockroach (or should I say una cucaracha) crawled up the wall next to him. It killed me not to mention it to him, but I didn't want to freak him out. As I've said in other reviews, I'm not squeamish - I continue to eat there - but I still notice these things and know they'd be total deal-breakers for other people. So, if you like greasy Mexican food where you can order pretty much whatever you want, however you want it at a reasonable price, it's a great place. I'll take you there if you'd like, just let me know. If, even for your dives, you need something fancier or sleeker, this probably isn't a good choice.

Ah, El Families! ha! wow..........this hits the spot at 2am! Me and a few buddies stopped in.....placed our order and BAM.......chips n salsa were brought out like that! after maybe 3 or 4 chips.......BAM.......out came my steak tacos! wow, are they HOT! be careful! The salsa is surprisingly good.....the tacos are very tasty.......but then again, i have only been here after 2am every time........but let me tell you when i am in this area..........there is only once place to go! Sitting at the bar putting back your last Miller Lite of the night and you turn to your friend and go "El Families????" What a perfect way to end my night! Oh and I call it EL FAMILIES cause the first time i was there, i didn't know the name of the joint!

it's been a long time since i had a burrito from el famous. last night we reunited. after spending far too much money getting drunk at the house of blues, on the way home, me and the bf were thinking of what food we wanted. it was a tie between pizza and mexican, and mexican won. we both ordered the lengua burritos and a side of cheese fries. they didn't have actual cheese fries, so they melted mozzarella on top, which did the trick just fine. two lengua burritos and a cheese fries for $15. and we only ate half each, so really we could have split one. cheap cheap cheap goodness. lengua burritos oh how i adore you. tender pieces of tongue on my tongue. it's pure delight. that is until you wake up in the morning regretting it all over again. what is it about mexican food that makes you feel sick to your stomach the next morning? . is it all worth it? yeah, i'd say it is.

I have been coming here since i was a child. I love that the food is still as good as it was 10 years ago even though they've expanded. Also huge fan of the warm toasty chips with that amazing salsa. Warm tortilla chips open the doors to my heart and soul. Amazing.

Service: amazing. Food: typical fast mexican food, a step above taco bell but not as good as sit down mexican.

I realize El Famous has other locations, but this one is tops for me. The staff that never seems to go home, the tasty tasty food, the diverse and sometimes creepy customers... I can name a hundred reasons why I love this place. It comes down to this though... when I moved into the area, I went to pretty much every taco stand up and down Clark street and although the others are tasty, El Famous takes the cake. Take note - in the summer, there's usually Krishnas hanging around outside and they're always good for conversation regarding 90's hardcore while eating your burrito.

This place is great for a more authentic Mexican fast food place. If you call ahead, your order is ready in ten minutes. There's a Chipotle on Sheridan that we've stopped going to because the meat seasonings at El Famous are better and less spicy than Chipotle's, They make a really decent steak taco dinner too. If you dine in, they bring your food to you and you can have a more relaxing meal. Plus, they're open til like 5 in the morning on weekends!

I wrote my last review on here over a year ago and I felt it deserved an update. This place has been, and continues to be, my favorite Mexican restaurant in the city. I have moved about 8 miles from here and I make the trip anytime I want Mexican, which is probably 3 or 4 times a month. Firstly, they still do Taco Tuesdays. Yum. Secondly, and I have no idea how I failed to mention it before, but they have the BEST SALSA EVER. No joke, I could probably drink a bowl of it. It's my absolute favorite salsa. Thirdly, while I usually find one or 2 things on a menu and stick to them, I have recently been trying their other food, my new favorite is their steak enchiladas, which are amazingly delicious, no surprise there. This is my favorite little hole in the wall restaurant, and I come in so frequently they know me by name & how I like my food, (they don't give limes, but since I always ask for them, they just give them to me now.) I absolutely love this place, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes delicious and cheap Mexican food.

I discovered this place when in college. They truly have football size burritos and they're great! I prefer mine with sauce and cheese (suezo con queso). My favorite is the steak burrito. They also have excellent chips and salsa - sometimes I'd come after class just for a basket of chips and salsa. They are located close to liquor stores so you can BYO - they don't mind at all. I met Vince, the owner and saw him there a lot. Back then (this was in the mid-to-late 80s) he was just opening new locations in the suburbs, but to me, the location on Clark was always the best - probably because Vince was himself there to oversee everything. It was always a pleasure to stop by and see him, and get some really great food. They also have great quesadillas, sopas, and everything in between. Seating is limited, but its well worth the trip even if you get it for takeout.

Man, do I love me a good burrito. I have been going to EL Famous since high school and it just keeps getting better! About 5 months ago they re-did the inside of the place, and it is much nicer. The food is delicious. Last night I got a chile rellano burrito, which I only ate half of as usual because it is gigantic. It is so good i can't wait to finish it! My boyfriend got a steak burrito and a langua taco, both delicious as well, and our friend got an avocado Sope. You have to order sides separately (rice, beans, whatevs), but honestly you don't need to, there is so much food in the entree you really don't need any more. They have a breakfast menu that looks excellent as well - Huevos Rancheros, Bistek with eggs, breakfast burritos. The salsa is really good and their Horchada is my favorite anywhere! EL Famous is open until 1 am on weekends and there is plenty of seating if you want to eat in. The guys who work there are super nice and it is dirt cheap. This is authentic Mexican food, so don't go expecting fancy sides, margaritas and tons of sauce - you will be disappointed. Oh El Famous Burrito, you complete me . . .

I had this place for lunch today. I decided to check them out on $1 taco Tuesday.. I had two pork tacos and one steak. I wish I had gotten 2 steak and 1 pork. Don't get me wrong, the pork was good, just not as good as the steak. You can't beat this deal for 1.00 and they don't skimp on the meat and other fillings either. Well seasoned and well worth 1.00. They also have $1 tacos on Sundays too.. Love this place!!

For a hole-in-the wall burrito joint, El Famous Burrito serves up some exceptionally tasty fare. When I was in college we would make periodic pilgrimages down from Evanston. It was good food for the right price then and it's good food for the right price now.

Being from Texas and coming from a Mexican family myself... I was on a hunt for authentic GREAT tasting mexican food. This is the place. I've tried several places around Clark St. and even where I live now near Addison and Lincoln. El Famous Burrito definitely has it down. The guys are really nice, the food is great and the prices are cheap!!

A few years back, one of my co-workers who lived in the Rogers Park area recommended El Famous Burrito. Did I go? No. Fast forward to last summer when one of my friends moved three blocks from the place. We told ourselves we'd try the place when stuff settled down. Did we go? No. But finally I was able to try this place, and their steak burrito with avocado was good. Funny thing is that the night I went, my friend and I were already 10 minutes away from Chinatown trying to figure out what we wanted. Then one of us mentioned how we should've tried Famous Burrito. I spun the car around and headed back north. The place was empty when we walked in, and two other people were waiting for their order before us. The dining area is utilitarian, but well lit, and surprisingly clean. The cashier took our order after eyeballing us- I guess at that time of the night we didn't fit in as a typical regular. A burrito, with avocado, and a pop was about $6.50, is made to order, and brought to you by the cashier. Upon first bite, I had made up my mind that this place was worth it. More people streamed in, most of whom looked like late evening regulars ranging from high schoolers and day laborers, to frazzled out twenty somethings on their third Red Bull. And everyone followed the same pattern. Talk loudly, get burrito, fall silent while eating. The cashier asked us if everything was ok, and I think I shot him a "Quiet, I'm Eating!" look. In the end we paid for our orders and walked out. In the end, it was worth driving back halfway across town for these meat filled tortilla contraptions. Pros: meat is juicy and tasty, prices are reasonable, interior is cleaner than one would think. Serves RC Cola. Cons: neighborhood can be dicey after hours, the clientele can be "interesting", serves RC Cola. To sum it up: I gotta try more places like this on north Clark St.

Solid place for inexpensive tacos and burritos. I like their (fried) fish tacos. I don't think their tacos al pastor are as good as some of the others I've had along Clark Street, including Cuetzal and one of the grocery stores. They expanded and improved their dining area a while back, the counter guys always seem friendly, and they're open later than most places along that stretch. One could do worse.

I wasn't blown away by El Famous Burrito, there's way better places nearby (Cuetzala, Sabor de Michoacan). The service is good, but the couple of times I went there the burrito just wasn't that good. I had the chicken and the steak, neither of which impressed me. The chicken was dry dark meat and the steak just tasted like generic greasy steak. I wouldn't come back here since the food is unremarkable.

Very tasty, fresh, and inexpensive! A great late night option. The salsa verde offered in squeeze bottles on the table was tangy and delicious, but the red salsa was nothing to write home about. I had cheese enchiladas with guacamole, and was very satisfied with the flavor, food temperature, and portion, not to mention the friendly service. I'll definitely dine again and again at El Famous Burrito.

We walked by three restaurants filled with Spanish-speaking customers (including one claiming "the best burrito in town") before arriving at this El Famous Burrito, our Yelp-inspired destination. Maybe it's because this place is noticeably much brighter than neighboring spots, and the menu is in both English and Spanish, but there were no native Spanish speakers in the place. Not that something like that should be an indication of the quality of the food, but it was still good. My vegetarian burrito came with SURPRISE real avocado slices, re-fried beans, onions and cheese, but a little too much lettuce--all for somewhere around $4. Next time I'll try the chicken version. I overheard a neighboring customer saying, "this is MUCH better than Chipotle." Thank goodness. I hear the Horchata is good. Stand-out features include: Dr. Pepper on tap, unlimited chips and salsa, and super attentive service! You order at the counter, and then they bring it to your table. And they even were ready with a fresh basket of chips before I got to the counter to ask for one. Parking is bad, so if you're willing to take the risk, snag a spot in the Blockbuster lot just a little farther south.

This El Famous ... words fail me. I've been going to this place for about 15 years now, and it's never failed. The burritos at this place are stellar: the standard by which other burritos should be judged. Likewise with the horchata. And the salsa; both the traditional and the verde are amazing. Caveat emptor! There are other El Famous locations. These are but pale shadows of the Rogers Park place. Don't judge this one by the others. They don't measure up, not by a long shot.

I love, love, love El Famous. Everything is very tasty, and well priced. They're open super late on weekends too, which is nice!! It definitely beats the Mc Donald's drive-thru or late night pizza delivery. The guys who work there are friendly, and the food is consistent. I love the tomato & avocado tacos. The burrito suizo is a popular, and delicious one too. Their huevos con chorizo is the bomb. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner which is nice. It's a low-key spot to grab some cheap and yummy Mexican. It's very fast too, never wait more than 10 minutes for your food.

El famous is a solid source of good mexican food. Its not my favorite because the food tastes a little bit on the "standardized" side for me and not as "home cooked" as many of the other taquerias taste. They have good service and reasonable prices and are on my way home from work so I give them regular business.

The truth is, I live in the neighborhood and was looking for a cheap place to take my little kids to lunch. I couldn't find any other place with a door wide enough for my double wide stroller. After four other failed stroller entry attempts at restaurants on this street, El Famous Burrito won the double-wide stroller door contest. But what I found inside was a gem! The folks at the counter are sweet and helpful, the food is great (and cheap), and the simple and clean restaurant was perfect for bringing my kids out for a quick and easy lunch. Lunch for 3 (Mom and 2 kids) is under $10!! To top it off, my 3 year old felt comfortable enough to strike up a conversation with the Spanish-speaking waiters and they were really kind to him. The ambiance has a little to be desired - but it's one of those places where you feel like the authentic hispanic folks are eating here, and so are lots of construction workers, office workers, other moms...They have a constant stream of people and I've met others in the neighborhood who also sing its praises. I love this place, and we go there every chance we get. For a quick, yummy meal, this place can't be beat.

The food at El Famoso is nothing great... a typical mexican joint for gringos who don't know squat about ethnic cuisine.. But there is hope if you are creative in your approach to ordering... if you order a torta al pastor along with a chile relleno with melted cheese inside and on top, and alternate bites between these two items, you will have a satisfatory experience. My roommate and I were wandering down Clark St on a friday night around 3am trying to find any mexican place that might still be open, and we got completely lucky with this place. Not only are they open until 5am on weekends, but their food is some of the best in the densely Mexican Roger's Park neighborhood. They claim to have burritos the size of footballs and this was no exaggeration. The chicken is a mixture of white and dark meat but has a great flavor. They are packed full of cheese, beans, meat, lettuce and sour cream. I had enough left over for 2 more meals it was so big. Not the mention the #6 you can get that also comes with about a lb of the best french fries i have ever tasted. A very odd combination i know, but well worth the mixing of styles and the perfect fix for a late night food go-er. Not to mention a steal at $6 for both plus a drink. My roommate had 3 tacos that were served on some great fresh corn tortillas and full of all sorts of good stuff. Also very filling and still had left overs of those. Their red salsa has that amazing homemade fresh tomato and cilantro taste that you can only get at a really good place. Their chips are also a great addition to add and take home. This place is a must go for anyone looking for a huge meal for a very cheap price. The value and taste combine to make it a top choice for the area.

This little place is good for anything cheese based. Cheese enchiladas, cheese quesadillas. I don't like the steak based items, like steak tacos, because they're too fatty and chewy/tough type of meat. I do like the ground beef once in a while. I LOVE the green and red salsa they give with the complementary basket of chips. Also, their horchata is delicious! I like their nachos, minus meat, a whole lot. Their beans are enjoyable.

Pretty good no-frills taco/burrito joint. They're fast for takeout, and though I give them points off for putting onions in the al pastor (WTF?) and lettuce in the burritos (gringo chow), they get bonus points for having a poster of Emiliano Zapata on the wall.

Fish tacos. Delicious. I've been looking for a good (and cheap) Mexican eatery on North Side for a while now and I think this is it. I've been to two other taquerias in the area now and this one wins because everything has great flavor and they have the best horchata. Plus they're open until 4am, so stop by after hitting the bars in Andersonville.

El famous burrito 7047 n clark Our 13th stop on clark, moving north from devon. You order and pay at the front of the store, then sit down and they'll bring your food to you. the dining room is fine, spartan, unremarkable, but comfortable. We were served free chips and salsas. The chips were lame, stale, store-bought. The green salsa was forgettable, but the red was really lovely. Chunky. Mild. Julie and I both got the same thing, a chile relleno burrito. It really did come out almost as big as my head. So big that Julie only ate half of hers. I tried to work through the 2nd half, but barely made a dent. Jeremy finished it off for me. I really enjoyed the burrito. There were lots of beans in there. Not too much lettuce. Rice. Tomato. The chile lent a really nice spicy kick to the burrito, and there was a flavor pocket of cheese waiting at the end of every half. I was a fan. I'd eat it again. Didn't blow my mind, but definitely a serviceable burrito. Neal had a similar burrito. His was chile relleno, but he added pastor. He wasn't in love with the pastor. Neither was husband. Husband tried a trio of tacos: pastor, steak and picadillo. The pastor, he said, tasted like the pork and the sauce was cooked separately and combined at the end. It needed more salt. Not bad, there was a low gristle quotient. It just was a little one note. The steak was, well, fine. I didn't get much comment about the steak from husband. The picadillo taco, he felt, tasted really tex-mex. It reminded him of tacos we'd had back in Arkansas at a place called la huerta. Not necessarily a compliment, but he didn't hate it. The horchada was fine. Different. No cinnamon. Like a big pudding drink. Overall, I'd give it a B.

This place is just awesome. The food is INSANELY cheap (my fiancee and I split a huge $4 burrito and easily fill up), the people are so nice and always recognize us, and it is really delicious Mexican food. Given its location positioned amongst a plethora of other Mexican places, this one really shines.

I want to really love this place...It's not terrible though. I will come back because I love Clark Street joints. I hate how the cheese and sour creme are so cold that the tacos end up being ice cold. I understand that it needs to be cold to be safe but it's way to cold and never warms up with the food. That is really the only complaint that I have.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Started off with a orange jarrito followed by a vegetarian burrito. There has always been a very laidback give to this place ever since I first started coming here, back in 2002. Prices are extremely reasonable and the server was very attentive. Will definitely return if the opportunity presents itself.
(5)Erin A.
(4)Rock Star R.
(2)C.C. H.
(4)Ally H.
(4)Chad B.
(5)Raksha K.
we ordered the 3 taco dinner (fish , pork and chicken). the Chilean was so so . the fish pretty decent - good but not wow.

(4)Grant S.

(5)Susanne P.
I'm a regular customer and come mostly for the $1.00 taco Tuesday / Sunday. I can ALWAYS count on tasty food and friendly service.
(5)Emily A.
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant, that just so happens to be right down the street! Amazing burritos for a great price. The staff is always friendly and makes going there more enjoyable
(5)Mp Z.
(5)Victoria K.
(5)Mihir G.
amazing prices, friendly staff, delicious mexican food. will definitely go back
(4)Joe R.
(1)John A.
The food is great, the prices low, and the staff is friendly. I rarely miss taco Tuesdays!
(5)Jennie T.
(3)Elizabeth S.
Mmm love their food salsa could be a little more home style in my personal opinion but I still love it. No bad comments just constructive criticism great daily deals !
(4)Dzeni S.
Their chicken tacos with the corn tortillas are delicious! They load them up with a ton of meat. Two-taco dinner with a drink for under $7: great deal! Consistent and delicious, affordable food... and you get your meal super quick, every time.
(5)Shaina K.
Don't get the beef here. SO greasy, and I felt sick after eating it. I've been here tons of times, and everything is usually pretty good. The food is cheap, portions are decent, and it comes out quickly. If you dine in they give you chips and salsa.
(4)Duan C.
(5)Jennifer O.
Tell them Jenni O. sent you :)
(5)Mark F.
Good place for Mexican food. The staff is nice and friendly. The dollar taco days are the best. Tacos are really good and they are only a dollar which is nice. The parking is kind of a hassle because of it being on the streets and stuff. It is a good place to eat good food. Would recommend it to anyone.
(4)Timi C.
(4)Ali C.
really great burritos and guacamole. They don't put rice in their burritos which is great - less carbs and more protein. This is a small family owned restaurant - a hidden gem. Their guacamole and salsa are both home made with chunks. The burritos are huge and can be shared by at least two people.
(5)Jenny I.
Huh?
(1)Michael P.
This El Famous burrito has a great staff they're extremely friendly their food is always fresh and their prices are always very reasonable highly recommend
(5)Joanna D.
(5)Carlos S.
(4)Fate O.
Cute male cashier!! (Wife speaking, not the husband, haha) Drank up my horchata and ate my steak taco. For $1 per taco tonight, not bad! :)
(5)Nick P.
Their tacos were crap, but I grabbed them on a Sunday, so they were $1. I understand that a lower price means lower quality, but I wouldn't take that deal again. They also got my order wrong (I got two steak tacos instead of the two chicken I ordered). Plus side: their salsa is good.
(3)Daniel C.
I went here last week and picked up 2 tacos (pork and chicken) and frijoles. The prices were right. The portions were great. I was able to take it out quickly and I enjoyed the meal. I will be back. Sunday / Tuesday they have $1 tacos!
(4)Steven J.
Crap lettuce and practically no tomato on 2 tacos....I GET IT, $1 tacos but don't lower yourselves.
(3)Brian Y.
i have been coming to El Famous for many years. the food is very reasonable priced and tasty. in the last year or so i have noticed that they have been putting less steak in my burrito but thats a little complaint. the wait staff is very nice and the place is always clean when i have been there.
(4)Sam C.
(4)Natalie S.
(4)Marcee W.
$1 tacos all day Sundays and Tuesdays!!!
(4)Erika G.
(4)Emily C.
(5)David R.
(4)Zack R.
This place is really hit or miss to me. One day, the asada is fresh and firm with a great charred flavor, and the next day is mushy and bland. Clean facility and friendly service is a constant though. Overall, one of the better burritos (if you're there one a good day) in Rogers Park. Good french fries too!
(3)Deana L.
(1)Philip R.
For the money, the best burrito is the steak dinner suiza style (a mild red sauce with melted cheese on top). Hard to beat this place for a cheap date. The nacho plate is very good too. In this case, 2 full satisfied customers for $15.
(5)Aktionman D.
went back to see if the cheap owner changed his policies. but no, still not smart about attracting & keeping customers. nickel & diming for extra salsa & lettuce. like i said before....i do like their food, but refuse to be squeezed for little extras. with 10 other mexican joints up & down clark st. that don't treat their regulars like that.....this owner is clueless.
(1)Gwynne R.
$1 tacos on Tuesdays and Sundays. Nuff said! I'm not giving them 5 stars because I have had better tacos, but for the price, these are outstanding!
(4)Rachel R.
I'll just reiterate what my fellow reviewers have said: - $1 taco Tuesdays and Sundays - We've all had better, but for the price they're excellent - I like their chicken tacos and their burritos are definitely worth the money. Definitely better for take out, the interior isn't super fantastic.
(4)Adam W.
Fresh tasty salsa, friendly prompt service, can't beat dollar taco night!
(4)arpan s.
got sick twice..yup...upset me enough to write a negative review... sorry guys...

(4)lauren s.
Taco Tuesday! Always delicious and always quick. Great guacamole and fresh salsa. Yum.
(4)Russell H.
(4)Paul H.
(4)Gregg T.
(4)Ryan R.
Best Mexican food in Roger's park. Tuesdays and Sundays they offer $1 tacos. Amazing fresh salsas as well. I recommend the rice water or mexican coke for a drink. You can't go wrong here.
(5)Amy U.
Love coming here on $1 taco nights! My only concern is their lack of consistency. Some nights they are right on the spot, other nights the meat is too greasy or lacking flavor.
(4)Timothy H.
(5)Wilson Y.
(5)Brian A.
I had excellent shrimp tacos, and the salsa was memorably delicious.
(4)Michelle W.
(3)jon f.
The food is ok. The beans taste like it came in a can. Also there were gang members everywhere and they were giving me and my friend dirty looks when we left. Maybe its because we came at night or something but I don't think I'll go again because I don't want to get shot.
(1)Cassie S.
$1 tacos on Tuesdays and Sundays! The quality depends on how busy they are. The service is good though. The cashiers brought me chips and salsa while I waited for my food.
(4)Minny M.
I really liked this place. It was fast, it was cheap, the service was great. The way I scarfed down those enchiladas and didn't get heart burn... yeah.. And I took a dozen warm churros to work. Win.
(4)Adrian M.
I've had much, much better burritos at many other Mexican eateries in Chicago, but El Famous Burrito is cheap, friendly and fast. Also, the burrito was not as large as previous reviewers have described. I'll go back, but only for convenience, not quality.
(3)Jesster A.
(4)Ian G.
Me Gusta!
(4)Desiree G.
(4)John M.
(4)Sarah S.
Tuesday is $1 tacos.. what more can I say?? This place is packed on the regular and even worse on Tuesdays. They have a great menu, but steak is always my choice either taco or burrito. They also have great churros that I have to suggest. Good service and usually quick. This is a stop I make all too often.
(4)Brian E.

Oh El Famous Burrito, you complete me . . .
(5)Nickie C.
(4)Tony M.
Best Mexican food in the neighborhood. The staff is always really nice too.
(5)Chloe S.
Super yummy!!! Especially on Taco Tuesday!!! I love eating here.
(5)John H.
For a hole-in-the wall burrito joint, El Famous Burrito serves up some exceptionally tasty fare. When I was in college we would make periodic pilgrimages down from Evanston. It was good food for the right price then and it's good food for the right price now.
(4)Daniel R.
The service is good. The place looks clean and nice. The food tastes good, but it is SUPER GREASY. I ordered a burrito and could not finish it. It was soaked in grease.
(3)Amber F.

(3)Marc L.
(2)Kiki B.

Chile Relleno Burrito; enough said

(4)Stephenie S.
Chili Rellenos Burrito is wonderful, and they are open late on the weekends.
(5)John D.
(5)Carina V.
(5)Tara M.
You won't find a better burrito at a better price anywhere.
(5)Sarah H.
Pork tacos and the steak burritos are super yummy. I love the guys that work here they are all really friendly and it is open nice and late in case you need something to soak up all that alcohol.
(4)Ninah R.
EL Famous is amazing for cheap food late at night. I always get the steak enchiladas and they are incredible. Don't ever change.
(4)Joe H.

(4)Gregor B.
(5)Kristin L.
(4)Beau C.
love the tacos!! quick, dependable, friendly.
(4)Julietta t.
This is a knock out place, you have to come hungry.Their burritos truly are football size. You should try the vegetarian burrito is delish, their chips are ok but the sauce is omg something to take home.Is well worth the money.
(5)Dr. A.
ive been going here since the early 90's and the only thing thats happened since then is an addiction to their style of great tacos and burritos. this is a must go to taco spot in chicago.
(5)Dave H.
Pretty good no-frills taco/burrito joint. They're fast for takeout, and though I give them points off for putting onions in the al pastor (WTF?) and lettuce in the burritos (gringo chow), they get bonus points for having a poster of Emiliano Zapata on the wall.
(4)Midori G.
Fish tacos.
(4)Santiago V.
Nothing fancy here but very good Mexican food for GREAT PRICES. Staff is always nice and if you eat in, chips are included. Call them ahead and they will have your order ready when you get there.

(3)Mark S.
This place is just awesome. The food is INSANELY cheap (my fiancee and I split a huge $4 burrito and easily fill up), the people are so nice and always recognize us, and it is really delicious Mexican food. Given its location positioned amongst a plethora of other Mexican places, this one really shines.
(5)Theresa M.
(3)Samantha E.
the food is average. it's clean. super fast. good place to take the kids.
(3)Richard D.
Im not sure what is in the mystery meat burrito, but it's damn good. Cheap affordable food. You can find El Famous in several different locations (I first discovered it on the southside). The burritos are under $4.
