I've been to a lot of Indian & Pakistani restaurants that are much much much better than this. The food has its hit or miss days, but the days that are a hit are amazing. Usually I go with a few friends (sometimes after going to the bars) and we always get the chicken makhani spicy. Although the food taste exponentially better being intoxicated, it is not all that bad sober either. In fact, there are days where I actually crave it. I would NOT recommend this for a nice, romantic dinner or a family dinner because there are far better places. However, if you're in college and miss your "moms homemade cooking" at 2 am, this might help tide you over for a few days. Beware of the red staining on your fingers from the food coloring.

Figured it was time for an update. I ate here recently and against my better judgement but, this is where our caravan stopped. I have two friends that loving call out to "DD's" when drinking. Both of which know that with a dining experience comes hours of agonizing on the porcelain goddess but as these guys tell it, "it's so good going in" and it can be. Plates ordered - their version of Butter chicken which is Chicken makhani (x2) and a masala chicken dish (x2). We had a couple baskets of paratha (bread) for dipping. Their butter chicken has a peculiar color like that of Pepto Bismol, it'd be fitting & helpful if Pepto was served with their food. Evidence of the night before is left on your fingertips since the color is hard to remove. Better judgment would, be, not to share this text conversation but hey.. WTF. Arpan S: Damn. I'm on sh-t number three or four. This is horrible! Arpan S: Tastes so good going down though TP: Me too lol Arpan S: I forced puked a little yesterday. Thought it would help but nope. TP: I know right. Jacob J: That food gave me a nightmare. Jacob J: Felt like I needed to puke and sh-t. Jacob J: If I could've puked on the shitter, I would've felt doubly good. Arpan S: Haha, same here. Arpan S: I had a dream about Oprah. Jacob J: Wait, what??? Not an experience I plan to redo again. I hope the next update, never comes. Cheers!

This rating is for the food. This place is not for romantic or high class dine. If you are hungry and wanna eat stomach full, this is the place. Pros -- food taste as listed below: Tasty food. Perfectly spiced for Indian aroma. Try beef tikka, it's awesome. Prefer roti over paratha, just coz it's bit oily. Chicken korma for me tasted like South Indian chicken curry. Tat was cool. Huge portions. Extended hours. Value for money. Cons Slow and sleepy looking staff Filthy bathroom, just like any indo pak restaurants Ambience, might look that tidy.

I was surprise this morning when trying to review this delicious restaurant and I couldnt find it on yelp... well, here it is!! next time I go, I will take pictures and add them. This might be the best hidden spot at Devon/Indian neighborhood. This restaurant has the real indian deal at incredibly affordable prices. I wont give the place my 5 stars for being pretty, but if what you are looking for is authentic Indian food and great service, this is the place to go!

  • Ray D.

After going to a couple of other Pakistani restaurants, we went back the second time to this place. As expected the food was excellent. Really enjoyed their fish fry and Chicken Makhni. Highly recommend it.

  • MoMo K.

My friends call it "DD's", but for someone whose been to many places on Devon, I can tell you right now this place is below average. $1.49 for a beef samosa??? I ordered Beef Nihari from here... well I'm not sure if I ordered "Beef Nihari" or "Beef Oil" because their was a layer of oil on top. What makes this place standout to the college crowd is they are open past midnight. Also, I think they jack up their prices because you got drunk people coming in here that just need to get their salt fix until their ADH levels come back to normal. Would I come back to DD's? Yes if all my friends wanted too. No if I am with my family. No if I get to choose the venue (In comparison: they charge you the same prices as Usmania which is a high-end place on Devon, yet a complete opposite dining experience)

    (2)
  • Milica K.

I noticed that a common thread in all of the 4 and 5 star reviews is "I was drunk" or "It was 2am". You would have to be drunk to enjoy this. First of all as I walked in the door I was hit with the awful stench of the place. Smells like old people or mothballs or something. Everything is dirty and it has a 2nd world or 3rd world sanitary feeling to it. The next thing, which was even worse, was the food. Despite "Brain Curry" being the first two items on the menu, we somehow thought it was a good idea to go forward. We ordered 2 curries, without any cow brain, and some bread and some beef kabobs. They were all individually disgusting. The curry had bones in it and I hate to tell you this but they passed something off as chicken that was NOT chicken. At first I thought it was lamb. Then I thought it was brain. Neither of us ate another bite of this awful meal. The kabobs were not what you would think of but rather rolled up pieces of cooked beef that look just like giant turds. Their masala and makhani taste nothing like masalas or makhanis I've had anywhere else. And that is not a compliment. This place is gross. That's all I can say.

    it was not authentic.

One of the worst punjabi food I ever had. I love punjabi food and these guys don't have any clue to make them. May be good for non veg but NO NO for vegetarian.

  • M.Bhanu R.

I ordered chicken, I think they ran to the farm and killed the chicken to cook, took 1 hour for this process, at this point it only makes sense to think that they were waiting for the wheat to grow, don't forget to add salt to your salt lassi, you have to try their water

  • Chirag P.

This is the only one who made food just like feeling indian food here. I tried twice a food here. But I like to come every week. Specialy I like chiken masala bornless. Price also so cheaper then anywhere.

  • Daniel H.

A low key, almost seedy place with the standard Mughlai menu. Briefly put, there's better on Devon. The only reason one would come here would be if you're starving at 2 am. The dishes just aren't executed well, and the ingredients don't seem so fresh. For example, our chicken boti was overcooked and dry and the chick peas in our chana masala were clearly from a can. All in all, meh. It's telling when the best thing on the table is the roti...

  • Cindy A.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would!!!! My friend Liz ordered take out from this place, and I just had a food high the rest of the night. Delicious. Well, I couldn't write a review without going in myself and giving it another try (oh woe is me, right?). So, I took my dad tonight and he was loving it. I fell in love again. We ordered the Chicken Briyani, Chicken Massala, Chicken Bakhni, Paratha, and 2 mango smoothies (ya need them for the spice). It was so good it warms you from the belly up, and leaves you more than satisfied. Just eat the Chicken Briyani with caution there are little pieces of bone that are choking hazards, literally. I nearly choked on one myself the first time, and this time around I chewed cautiously. It's not expensive, and the portions are hefty. They don't skimp on flavor and spice! Gotta try it.

  • Veronica M.

Two and a half hours for delivery!!! called in only to be told that i have to call the delivery driver to find out where he's at! then promised it would be here in 15 mins that was 40 mins ago.... ONLY to direct the driver how to get to my apartment! Ridiculous ! i wish i could write a review on the food but being that i may never receive it , it's getting the worst customer service award!

  • Pavithra M.

Maybe I should not be reviewing this restaurant....the last time I actually ate here was many, many years ago when our nights used to end just before dawn broke and our taste buds were compromised by alcohol and sleep deprivation....however, my husband is a frequent flyer here, because of their fantastic chicken boti kabab. Every few weeks, I call him on his way home from work, asking him to stop at DD. No complaints there because he feels the same way I do. The kababs are cooked just right, juicy, spicy and come with a mouth-watering chutney. So again, maybe I should not be writing this review, but I would be amiss if I did not share these yummy kababs with you folks.

This place is amazing. I live in L.A so when ever i come to Chicago I am here almost every night. The food is great. Make sure to try the mixed platter and the chicken makni. they are both amazing.

I had their Paneer Burji and Roti on 07/19 along with three of my friends. The food was excellent. Even my friends were extremely happy with the food quality. The Paneer Burji makes my mouth water even as I write the review. The Roti was as big as a table cloth (j/k) but extremely soft and tasty. Will go again there when I visit Chicago again.

    (5)
  • Tegan T.

I love the Boti! But beware if you phone in for pickup... Most of the time it's wrong, and you absolutely must double check your order.. But delicious nonetheless... Ask for extra roti!

I am an Indian. Let me tell you Their food is A+ yess..Look at my words carefully "FOOD"... Place is like rat hole and dirty but food you can not compare with any restaurant on Devon. For date : Not presentable For Work Friends: Depends on your relationship For Cousin: Try it For Friends: Of course For hungry people: Definitely For Zabiha Halal Eater: Of course Try ordering their Beef Tikka and Daal Fry--------------- A+ Yess Go to Delhi Darbar for "Real Food".

    (5)
  • Yav A.

I know there is Sabri and Usmania but for me the best nihari on devon goes to Delhi Darbar. They make nihari according to your spice intake - mild, medium or spicy and the meat was very tender. Sabri has lost a step but DD has been consistent for years. Another dish that took me for a pleasant surprise was the butter chicken. You actually taste the butter in the butter chicken. Hands down great indo-pak food!

    (5)
  • Mark S.

Terrible service, estimated the food would be delivered in under an hour and three hours later still no food, after contacting multiple times and assured it would be there soon. WILL NEVER ORDER FROM AGAIN.

I ordered lamb korma from this place; what I got was a bowl with lamb chunks swimming in red-colored spicy oil. Just gross.

  • Ravi Y.

This is a cabbie joint mostly and for night owls on the weekends. Food is fresh and feels like sitting in a small village in India. Service is good. This is more and Mom&Pop shop.

  • Thomas C.

This place was recommended to me by my coworker who is Pakistani, she told me it's a hole in the wall place with great food and it's open late. I went and the food was GREAT!!! It really isn't the prettiest place, but I don't mind. Who cares as long as the food tastes good. I always ask to have the dish extra spicy and this place always accommodates. I've been to many of the restaurants on Devon Ave. and this is the tastiest. I can't say it's the most authentic because I don't know what authentic indian-pakistani cuisine would taste like. But check it out, don't be afraid, you're taste buds will be genuinely rewarded!!

  • Chris W.

Upfront I need to mention that it's a really late night spot for authentic Indian food, and secondly I've never been there. My boyfriend brought a bunch of food home that I ate like a tornado slurping a house. From what I hear it's not the nicest place inside...and it's overpriced, but I'm all about the late night spots, and their food is tasty. Butter chicken. WOOOOOOOOOOO that's some tasty chicken. I love butter chicken especially home made, and this is some high quality stuff. The colors of the food at this place are slightly hilarious just because they seem SO extreme! I mean my god it seemed like some bright orange insanity that the chicken was in, not that Indian food is ever truly that appealing looking. However, it's not that spicy, eat it with the nan and you'll be feeling mm mm good, and if you're not in the mood for something so wet, get the tandoori chicken. I wish they served you more with your order but you do get a relatively big piece of meat that comes RIGHT off the bone. Perfectly seasoned, really bright intense red color and has some jalapenos on it which you don't need for spice unless you're a spice fiend addict. Also, if you ask for butter chicken without the chicken they'll even do that for you. For you vegetarians who like to consume tasty bright orange liquids that are nice and creamy...

  • S. S.

Just thinking about this place makes my mouth water. The chicken tikka masala and the butter chicken are amazing. Also, the parathas are greasy and if you don't like the grease, because there's lots of it, order roti instead. Great with some rice and make sure you get a plate of cucumbers, onions, lemons which will be soothing to your mouth after the heat from the food. Great for dinner, takeout or 3am stop after a night of drinking! Warning: it's a dump inside, not a place for ambience but THE BEST place for some good gritty Desi food!

  • Doug p.

Decent Indian food, kebobs were tasty, and prices were reasonable as indian usually is, nice and clean inside, not a bad place to stop for a quick lunch

  • Jeff H.

I've been there twice and I thought it's a terrific place. Especially when you've got a craving on a weekend night and you are tired of pizzas and burgers. Everything is fresh and deliciously spicy. Great vegetarian selelction. It's really a hole in the wall, however. Not exactly how you want to impressive your first date. But for me it's part of the charm. Added bonus: continuous Bollywood videos on TV!

Headed back last night after a casual eight hours of drinking, we asked our cabby to take us to a great burrito place in Rogers Park. He responded by taking us to Delhi Darbar and telling us they had Indian burritos. They did not. We were the only non-Indian or Pakistani folks in the restaurant and there were a number of people in skull-caps. We were very drunk and I'm sure we were offending every one of their gods. Despite our obnoxiousness, we were treated very well and the food was delicious. We had two chicken dishes and the meat was flavorful and incredibly moist. The naan was very oily, which at that point in the evening was exactly what we wanted. Our cab driver sat and ate with us. I strongly recommend this place for quality, authentic Indian food. Never thought of Indian food as a good end of the evening snack, but I have to say it hits the spot.

I used to go here since 2005. The food was really good. Now there biriyani (Chicken) is horrible. The rice tastes rotten. I do take out and it tastes horrible when I come home.

I love this place! My boyfriend and I found it when we were moving from one apartment to another, pulling late nights after work. Yes, open from 5 pm to 5 am. I love knowing that if I wake up in the middle of the night, there is some place I can go to eat spicy, authentic Indian food. Seems to be frequented by lots of Indian family groups, even late at night. Staff is attentive, prices easy to handle and the roti (bread) is swonderful.

  • Issa K.

We, my girl and I were craving indian food at like 2am and even though she lives near rogers park which is completely indian neighborhood, there were still not that many places open, but we found this place, to be honest the food was good not great but it got the job done. now the reason I gave this place two stars even though the food was good is that the place was so run down and tables were nasty, this not a place you sit at take your food and run with it. The best way I could describe this place is the Indian food equivilant of maxwell street! quick, cheap and usually a last resort.
