Food is ok but service is terrible. I have given this place several chances and have sat there during my lunch break waiting for service. I once mentioned it to the owner that I had been waiting for a long time and no one has taken my order and he replied "that's the waitress job" I was dumbfounded

Best place to eat in the neighborhood! Food is great! Service is beyond excellent! I recommend the Reuben sandwich, the popeye omelet or the gyro plate. The cream of chicken soup is to die for!!! Linda at the counter is the best waitress in town! I will forever eat at Dapper's.

Man I wanted to like this place. I really did. It reminds me of breakfast places in movies made before 1980. And its nearby. But, I just can't come to spend another penny here. Came on a Saturday with two others around 10:30am. Got right in and saw an old juice dispenser that looked like the one I used when I worked at an assisted living facility. Things were looking good. The server lady was no-nonsense but totally on her game. Our table must have asked her 25 questions over the course of our stay. We all ordered the standard two eggs brekkie. Tip: avoid the bacon and go for the sausage links- I literally don't know how you mess up bacon but Dappers managed. Eggs tasted off and my dinner salad was super drab. The eggs came with a side of meat, a side of fruit/potato, and a side of bread/pancake. Definitely peaked at the pancake, so if you find yourself here just get a whole stack of 'em and call it a day. Total for brunch with coffees was $48...yikes.

Mediocre Greek diner with the cookie cutter design and menu. Waitstaff is very friendly with lots of the typical terms of endearment talk. The food is greasey as to be expected expected but delivered in short order. Probably a great hangover spot but nothing special stands out in a town loaded with better options for breakfast.

My favorite go to breakfast diner around! Awesome food friendly staff and unlimited cups of coffee!

Watch about three episodes of Restaurant: Impossible and you'll see many faux pas here. Very dusty and outdated decor. Bland food that isn't fresh but packaged. Overcrowded menu. This place was crowded and I just don't understand why. I think as Americans we will really eat anything. This place is subpar. I went with a group of 15 or so people. 3 of us ordered the leg of lamb with vegetables and rice pilaf. I was expecting a lamb shank. It was sliced meat that didn't taste like real lamb. The gravy was watery, the vegetables were overlooked. Neither of us had the same vegetables. One person's vegetables was undercooked, mine were overcooked, and the other had steamed vegetables. Another in our party ordered an omelet and it was apparent they had the fire up too high because the outer was hard and the inner was runny. She sent it back and that one tasted as if the eggs were old. A dessert came with our special and everything we wanted they were out of. Once I go to the front I saw the cooler that the desserts sat in and I could tell they sit there for days. Another gentlemen ordered baked chicken and it was still white and rubbery. This restaurant is getting away with murder. The food is not select or fresh. The restaurant is old. The cashier at the front told some patrons that she doesn't even work there anymore, they called and asked her to help out. That's not a good sign to me. Dapper's you can fool some of the people, but not all of the people. You guys are serving slop and because you've been in the neighborhood for years , your name and longevity is what's holding you over.

I was deciding in between 3.5 and 4 stars. Due to the strength of the free wifi, I will generously round it up to four (4) stars. This cute, family-owned diner located within the Addison shopping plaza, a strip mall where you see Target, Dollar Tree, and a few neighborhood-type of stores. Hubby and I wanted some food after the Target trip, so coming here was like no brainer. Our server, Heather, was very friendly. After we were seated, she was still chasing after the children to whom belonged to the family she waited on. I know she was occupied, so we didn't mind waiting for a few minutes until she got herself situated. The daily dinner special menu was pretty well-priced: for $9.45, there was an entree of your choice from the menu and soup or salad which would come with it. I picked the beer battered tilapia. Heather, on the other hand, was very accommodating my hubby's request. Hubby recently began a vegetarian diet and has been beneficial to his health, and Ms. Heather suggested the cabbage soup for the veggie pita entree that he ordered. Nevertheless, the food was slightly lackluster. The actual tilapia was well-cooked and the breading was done properly. Yet the gravy for the meshed potatoes was too sweet for my taste. The side veggies came straight from the can. Honestly, I didn't think it was a big deal, but some more creativity could have been used to refrain from using frozen or can veggies. I tasted the hubby's cabbage soup; it was also sweet but palatable. He said his veggie pita was pretty good. Overall, the quality of food did not, at all, pass with flying colors. Despite of the minor disappointment on the food we had, hubby and I had a great time chatting about the Black Friday electronic deals with my i-pad, since the wifi was working strongly in the dining room. The ambiance was very relaxing. The clientele consists of families and the elderly. I enjoyed the atmosphere this diner provides, so I think we will still come back when we get a chance.

Walked in, thought what a hidden gem right in an unattractive strip mall, had low expectations, but boy was I a bit wrong. Inside, it looks a bit like an old diner that's been updated. We were seated quickly by the host, and brought water very soon after. Our waitress was very nice but seemed busy and her mind was a little off her service, seemed like she was having a bad day yet she remained pleasant. I had cheese sticks along with chicken quesadillas. I expected the cheese sticks would be an appetizer, but moreso they seemed like a full meal! Eight cheese sticks for just $5.65- a huge deal. The only let down was that the marinara sauce was meat sauce- and really was probably spaghetti sauce. I wish I would have got something else to dip them in. The quesadillas were PACKED with stuff, quite impressed as the menu picture showed them being much more flat, I couldn't even eat it all. The prices are good, the portions are large, the food was decent. I'll probably come back at some point. Also- they serve breakfast ALL day until closing!

We came here at the request of my goddaughter, who loves this place. Mediocre food - not too bad a tuna melt, but not an outstanding one either. Ordered the matzo ball soup - a matzo ball the size of a baseball...in lukewarm, bland broth - so disappointing. Our waitress was unintelligible - we had to ask her three times what the soups were, among other things. We went in between lunch & dinner, so not too much of a crowd or demand on the kitchen. It was, in a word, meh. We live within walking distance of this place & I would LOVE a great diner to be here! Some of the breakfast menu (available throughout the day) reviews I've read speak far more highly of the place, so I'd go back with my goddaughter to give it another shot...

Better that Golden Nugget is the best I can describe. Service is friendly and inviting for families and for a good price. Do well with your typical diner fare and bring it out super fast. The diff between this place and Golden Nugget is that some how it's less ghetto :). Plus bonus for really solid Svc. Come here with the kids for a good meal before or after shopping.

I like coming here when I'm craving breakfast for dinner. It's a step above IHOP with comparable prices. I actually prefer IHOP's pancakes to theirs but they totally nail the side of hashed potatoes! They are so good that I overlook the pancakes. Their skirt steak skillet is a go-to if I'm ever not in the mood for an omelette. I once had their French dip but it was so long ago.. not even sure if it's still on the menu but it was good. I could eat their steak fries all day long! I even contemplate getting a side of steak fries every time I stop by.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner, I always like the food here. Dapper's is a family owned restaurant. There was a time a few years back that they had to cut back on the hours. I think this made some people realize that they better shop local or it could be gone. Funny thing how you get noticed when you cut your hours. I am s soup person and Dappers has some of the best soup around. Beef Barley Soup the old fashioned kind. yum yum. the prices work here, for the money you will not leave here hungry. I tried the new salads they are huge, so much food in the salad that it is not low cal. Crepes, omelets, burgers, fries, Greek style chicken all my favorites.

I will never step foot in this place again. I went for breakfast early on a Saturday morning. Waitress was pleasant. Took a very long time for our food considering how empty the restaurant was. Food was OK. The real problem is when we went to pay. We took the bill to the counter and my mom gave her debit card. The woman behind the counter(I cannot imagine what her title is) returned the receipt for a signature. As my mom is signing, she realizes that the amount is $6.00 more than what our check said. There were 2 receipts stapled together. My mom tore the top copy off because it was incorrect. She proceeded to tell the counter person that the receipt was incorrect. Instead of an apology, she received a lecture because she unstapled the 2 pieces of paper. The horror! After letting the counter person go on, I intervened and said we do not need to be scolded, just fix your mistake. She turned her back to us and was reentering the transaction. As she was doing this, she kept scolding us and talking to herself about how "it's not the end of the world". I was pretty much left speechless that this nitwit would berate a customer over a staple after she made an error that would have cost her customer several dollars. Crappy tasteless breakfast food is not worth the hassle.

Absolutely love this place for breakfast anytime! My personal favorite is the Chef Skillet however the different dishes that I have tried there have all been really good! Ask for the daily specials menu... they have a few dishes there too. The service there is always on point! Wait staff is very attentive and will make sure you have everything you need. Another thing I like is that the restaurant is big enough where there is never a ridiculous wait time like other places.
(5)Amaris G.
Best cream of chicken I've had! Served Sundays only and you have to be there early, they run out quickly. It's THAT good.
(5)Patrick D.
It's basically like a Denny's with slow service and a limited menu. I've been here several times because I work in the area and some folks I work with like to go here. Lunch hasn't been bad, but then again when you're with six people you're really not paying attention much. Last night was it for me. I tried dinner here and it was awful. I literally walked out halfway through the meal. Took five minutes for the server to come over and take my order. Salad was warm...I ate half of it and gave up. Got the chicken parmesan with spaghetti. The spaghetti was cold to the touch and runny. The chicken was cold. I tried to get the attention of the server but she seemed far more interested in chatting it up with the guy refilling ketchup bottles at the counter. After five minutes I gave up on trying to get her attention and walked over to interrupt her conversation. Got the check, paid, left. Never again in the evenings. Only if forced for lunch.

Went here for breakfast. This is a family-friendly place with prompt and courteous service. I ordered the veggie skillet and was pleasantly surprised they used fresh spinach. The potatoes were crispy and tender. The pancakes were yummy. I've been looking for a casual, clean diner-type place and so far, this place met all of my needs. Looking forward to trying their sandwiches and salads. Pros: parking lot, lots of seating, reasonable prices. Cons: nothing yet. Suggestion: Wish they could provide diners with a to-go cup so they can bring their coffee with them.

After reflecting on our lunch yesterday, we both decided that we would come back to Dapper's again. It is totally old school, in both food and ambiance. We are old school people, so there you have it. The service was very friendly, but not in a manic way. We felt at home from the get go. The bread is fantastic. A great way to make a good first impression. Christopher had one of the breakfast skillets. It looked fresh and the toast that came with it was Texas toast size. I had a pork chop sandwich with a bowl of matzo soup. The soup needed some more seasoning, but all in all it was good. The pork chop sandwich was very good. It was well seasoned and tender. We brought a big container of beef barley soup home for Mom. So far she has had 2 big bowls full, and there is plenty more. They also sent some very nicely packed bread and butter with for her. Once again, the bread rocked. Yes, we will be back the next time we are in the area. Till then, stay hungry my friends!

There are so many amazing restaurants out there, why did I bother with this one? Horrible service, the waitress walked away as I was putting in my order, said the menu changed and didn't offer me soup when it clearly stated on the menu. I said, do I get my side? She yelled from the other side of the restaurant, FRIES RIGHT? OR YOU WANT COTTAGE CHEESE HUH? Ewww what I really wanted was to run out of there. So the food arrived and I had the chicken quesadilla, it was bland and a plateful of grease, my food was soaked in grease, it was disgusting. The person that was with me ordered a burger and she said it was ok. I wonder how this place stays in business, I did see a lot of older people, so at one point they have had decent service and good food. As for me, I like to enjoy my meal.

I have been coming to Addison Mall for years now to shop at the Target and Dollar store but I never ate at Dappers until finally on one snowy afternoon I decided to try it. It's your typical american diner with typical diner fare. On this day I had the special which was the open faced sausage sandwich with cheese. When it finally arrived at my table its was BIG. The sandwich has lots of sausage and it was covered in cheese and onions and green papers. It was really delicious and the sausage meat was tasty. It was so big a portion I could not finish it. My special came with a cup of lentil soup which was also really good, you can tell it was house made and not out of can. Seeing what the other patrons where eating I'm definitely going to go back and try their other items and it seems their food is a notch above normal diner food.
(3)Karalyn F.
The service is extremely slow - we had to wait almost 30 min for drinks, and for another waitress to come over and actually notice something was wrong and take our order. Plus, the food is nothing to write home about. I got a chicken sandwich and it was dry and unsatisfying. They brought me fries instead of onion rings, which I specifically ordered. Overall, I think the most satisfying part was the bill, but I would have rather paid for better service and food.
(1)Aidan B.
This is one of my go-to breakfast places in the city. It's just an old-school family restaurant, Midwestern style. If you're up in the northwest side and you really want a skillet or an omelette, this would be the place to go.
(4)Yubari W.
Really good food and a lot for the price.
(4)Keri-Ann W.
The food is just okay but the service is awful. We usually come on week nights after family target trips. It is right there and toddler friendly. I always get the same thing California Pita with soup. I always received fries with this. My husband and I decided to go for an early lunch on a Sunday around 10:30am since our daughter was at grandmas. What a different experience. I ordered my usual (expecting fries). My husband ordered the spinach chicken pita - The waitress asked him if he wanted fries (this is pictured with cottage cheese and fruit). When my order came it had cottage cheese and Honey Mustard (I requested ranch on the side to sub Honey mustard). I asked the server to bring fries and ranch. I went to pick up my sandwich and there was cottage cheese juice soaked through the bread so when she brought the ranch I asked if I could get a new pita. At that point she started lecturing me to read the menu when I am ordering and if I want substitutions to point that out when ordering. I said I order this multiple times a month and always get fries. You specifically asked my husband if he wanted to sub for fries, I thought it came with fries. She continued to lecture me. At that point I said forget about it I don't want a new sandwich, this is not how you speak to customers. She then said "I'm getting the manager" and stormed away. I could see her speaking to the manager, I waited for him to come speak to me, he didn't. I then called him over and explained my side. He did not apologize, nor did he comp the sandwich that no one touched. With the lack of control the management has over the employees I would not trust sending my food back and then feel safe eating it once it was returned to me. The food is just okay - They serve brown gravy on the hot turkey sandwich because its to expensive to make white gravy on the weekdays - but the service sucks. If you are looking for a good sub for this place for breakfast or lunch go to the Original Alps on Irving and Elston. Better food and better service. Service is usually better on weekday evenings so if you are looking to eat here do it then.

Stopped by for late lunch. Was very surprised by this place. Dappers sounds like a 50's name, wasn't too excited about this place. However, the food was very good, the price was extremely low and the service was great. Not 1 negative I could fine. Really liked my first outing here (recommended by my fiancé) and will definitely come back again!

If this mini mall has another anchor stop besides the TARGET it is DAPPER'S EAST. We often go on a sat or sun to have the breakfast and are never disappointed. It's a family operated greek diner, so no fuss or muss, just good diner food. They don't need my review for business. DAPPER'S EAST is no hidden gem. Many know about it and i am sure they've got many regulars, including us. I swear by the greek skillet. Many other items to choose from.

I am guessing there is a West somewhere around these parts as well. My mom comes here every week with a friend. My dad says this place is only for senior citizens and doesn't like coming here. I said we need to check it out ourselves and see what happens. For as long as I can remember this place has been here. It is located in the Addison Mall. There is a Target store within this mall now. My, my, how things have changed. I used to bank at Household Bank way back in the day. Ahhhh.......memories. This morning we were hungry and ready for a great breakfast. As you all know my favorite is having a Mexican breakfast with steak, eggs, Chilaquiles, rice, and beans. But today I had to do something different. Thin Waffle. Yep, that's what I said. My mom special orders a thin waffle. This was delicious. My mom gave me a bite and I swear I am ordering it like this from now on. Eggs, over medium, hash browns with cheese sauce and sausage. Side of Ham. This was my favorite part of the meal. @Xobejm had her usual. Scrambled eggs, sausage, and hash browns. @Tarajroth had the French Toast, Eggs, over easy, and bacon Papi had the huevos rancheros omelette and hash browns. Pancakes. They must put something in the batter. These are very tasty. Great service and decent prices. Coffee keeps on coming and the restaurant is very clean. Nice and quiet which is what I loved the most about it. This is a must try in the city.
(4)Margaret A.
I like the breakfast and lunch specials. Almost always good service. only deficiency is sometime a little slow but no big deal. I like dappers.
(4)Kasey H.
I really had high hopes for this place but I suppose if you're not over the age of 50 you aren't a priority for the waitstaff. The sad part is that it's across the street from my house. I really tried to give this place a chance because let's face it, there isn't a whole lot you can do to mess up breakfast. What really killed this place for me was the staff. Unbelievably rude, every single one of them. The food is decent, predictable, diner grub and even though my food order has been messed up the past 4 times I've been here (I don't believe in sending stuff back) it's always filling, which is the only reason I am giving them 2 stars. My advice? Go to the golden apple..
(2)Lorena L.
I love coming here when I'm craving smoked salmon. Their lox platter is huge, it's good and under $10! The tuna melt is also excellent. For Lunch, try the Chicken Souvlakia because the chicken is well seasoned, juicy and tender. Greek salad is also good. (Now, here it comes......) BUT the ONLY complaint I have about this place is their French toast, its too thin! Boo :( This is a great local, family owned restaurant. I've been coming here for years. The owner is a sweet heart. )
(4)Tony T.
This place is cool. The breakfast is delish! The service is good, people are friendly.
(4)Sean Q.
Nice diner type feel. Menu had a little bit of everything. I had a Bleu Cheeseburger on dark rye bread and a Caesar salad. Caesar salad was good and the burger was very tasty! The bleu cheese was just enough to compliment the burger yet not overpower it. Fries were crispy and good. Staff was friendly and attentive. Price was good for what you got. I would definitely go back!
(4)Anne M.
4 stars for a good old fashioned diner-ish restaurant servin' up big plates of moderately priced food. *With a parking lot. Went here for breakfast over the weekend and was surprised at the keeps-going-and-going indoor space - it's huge. Dappers is an end-cap at a strip mall next to a Target. You can't really tell what's going on in there until you enter the large revolving door, and even then you can't see the back dining rooms, but this place is big and can definitely handle large crowds. Large, simple breakfast menu (and lunch/dinner), ample coffee refills, good sized portions - I like all of that. I ordered the 3-scrambled egg plate + potatoes + turkey sausage + wheat toast. yah. It was a lot of grub and I it was good. ( I wasn't a big fan of the sausage - it was a little rubbery.... ) I'd return to Dappers because sometimes it's just nice to go to a no-frills kind of place to get your serious eats on and not deal with small / overpriced / fancy plates.
(4)Shelley K.
This place is awesome! Looks a bit sketch from the outside and inside it hasn't has a make over since 1973 but the food and staff are great! Great breakfast that sets you up for the day! Lunch is huge! Defo need a box Price reasonable omlette and coffee around $12 Staff soooo nice This is my new fav weekend hang out
(4)David P.
Dappers East is an overall decent breakfast place. If you are looking for a regular American diner, Dappers East is the place. The prices are reasonable, service good and the food is OK. It is true that this place is not some high-flying restaurant that you will see on "Check Please", but if you are looking for a good breakfast at a reasonable price, go here. This place caters to families, retired folk and twenty-somethings working off a hangover -- it is like a Chicago neighborhood.
(4)Ashley L.
This is my go to breakfast place. Its close to where I live and target! there pancakes are not the best. I go for the skillets. Im going through a chorizo on everything faze. I always have the same server and she is sweet and always very on top of my coffee which is always a plus!
(4)Michelle H.
A very decent family restaurant, especially for breakfast. We came here on a Saturday morning, and they had a pretty decent sized crowd. The menu for breakfast was large, and everyone in my party found something they could enjoy. I went for the NY Strip steak and eggs. And I was not disappointed. It was cooked exactly how I wanted it, which was very rare. (Nothing tastes better than beef blood, eggs, and hash browns all mixed together!) The potatoes were cooked crisp, and the eggs done perfectly. Not a complaint to be had. Our server was busy, but genuinely friendly, and never let our coffee cups get below half full. But the parking lot to this place is also shared with a strip mall and a Target, making walking through the lot a hazard to your well-being. I think I almost got nailed by vehicles twice on my way in. But the breakfast was well worth it.
(4)Rod D.
If you are looking for that typical family style diner with great food for any time of day, head out to Dapper's east. I eat there because it's right across the street from me. I usually get breakfast there. They have huge portions and tasty food. The place is very accommodating to families and they have lots of room so waiting is never an issue. The wait staff and hostess are very nice and I always get that family friendly style feeling when I visit. I usually get the skillets or an omelet. The portions are hefty enough to make two meals out of them. Couldn't ask for a better diner.

I wake up on my one day to sleep in (Sunday) there is light floating thru the windows, snow falling outside, a soft cloud of warm blanket enveloping me and a beautiful man passing me a delicious, fresh, hot breve and asking me what I want for breakfast. Breakfast? Have you SEEN my kitchen?!? He's lucky he could make coffee. The dishes are doing their best impression of the Parthenon. Life-sized procrastination at its finest! Complete with the falling and breaking. Not pretty, and not wasting half my day off to power-hose it all down either. Like the genius I am, I reply: "We are going out for breakfast." I had never been to Dappers before: Date tells me Greek immigrants couldn't find a market for their authentic cooking, so instead opened casual diners. Voila! Income, community and good eating. Lots of families here, very personable. The cost can't be beat, They even take cards where you can add a big tip for your server. I had memories of my childhood fave late-night movie "I Married a Witch" and thus ordered the waffles. These are the kind of waffles Miss Veronica Lake ate endlessly, tantrumed and threw things for- filmclassics.byethost18.… golden, creamy soft inside, crispy and buttery outside, dotted with pecans, chocolate and lots of fresh, sliced bananas on top. You can ask for syrup and whipped cream too, if you are into that sort of thing. Date had a skillet with corned beef, hash and a stack of pancakes on the side. After eating my waffle, I helped him with the fluffy pancakes. And the crispier hash. Scrumptious! The total for the two of us, eating like Veronica Lake (see link above) less than $20.00! Now the only negative: Though smoking has been banned for a bit, it still has that old, foul, stale smoker air. Gentle suggestion, Perhaps a battalion of plug-ins, a healthy wash of febreeze spray and multiple boxes of baking soda stashed under the booths would remedy? I'll throw down another star...

If you want great food at an awesome price, this is the place for you! I went to Dappers while in Chicago visiting friends. Our food was excellent, and they could actually be charging a lot more money for what they are serving. It was fresh, handmade and abundant. I am from New York and am used to excellent family restaurants, and I would say that the food at Dappers is even better than what I have had in New York I found the staff pleasant, and the owner was attentive and friendly- you could tell he was a very hardworking guy. It is family owned and definitely had that warm familial feel. If you love supporting local/family restaurants and want great food, a visit to Dappers is a must! P.s Try the Greek dishes, it is Greek owned and the flavor is out of this world :)
(5)Mabel M.
The food is decent for the price, but definitely not the best breakfast food. We have had a great waitress, but there are also some terrible waitresses that do not have the capacity to wait on customers. It might not be a problem, if the owner actually oversaw his employees and noticed that all staff members could not handle their tables. There are too many good breakfast places in the area to go back.
(2)Charlotte O.
I have quite a few meals here over the years, seeing as I grew up not too far from this place. They are very consistent, not much at all has changed here since I was a kid. Wednsday night before Blue Man Group was the most recent visit here. It was the place my Dad choose for all of us to have dinner together before the show. There is nothing fancy about this place. It is your typical Chicago Greek family style restaurant. They have big comfy tables and a rather open dining space. Perfect for big families. We were promptly seated and given lots of time to choose what we wanted. The menus have something for everyone. The waitresses that work here are really friendly, I have yet to receive bad service out of all the times My Dad and I have eaten here. In fact on this night she overheard me saying how I didn't want to wear my Potbelly shirt out to the show, and she chimed in and said "Oh I LOVE Potbelly you should be proud to work there" (which I mostly am, I just didn't feel like smelling like our seasonin' mix all night) Drinks are always kept filled, food is brought out in a timely manner. Most of the items I have had are nothing to write home about, but nothing bad ever either. This night I went with the gyros plate, with the cream of chicken soup. The cream of chicken soup was excellent, tasted almost home made. The gyros, were not greasy nor dry and had a great flavor. My only gripe was that they gave me enough meat for two sandwiches but not enough pita bread to make a second one. I will have to say that it's been my favorite dinner item here (I have also had the salads, a couple of the steaks, and a wrap, but like i have said nothing to write home about). I enjoy their breakfast skillets (the Chorizo one being my fave and yes they'll let you choose pancakes or toast!) I give them the fourth star for super friendly service and consistency(I'm a creature of habit...) . Three stars (A-OK) for the food.
(4)Bella G.
Good Food and Large portions. We walked in for Mothers Day. It was extremely busy but well paced. The service was still friendly and did not feel rushed at all. Our waitress was extremely nice and pleasant. Food was fresh, hot and huuuge. We had doggy bags to take home. I would love to come back and try the desserts next time.
(4)Melissa B.
I remember my mom taking me here when I was little for our "girls' night out." Recently, my husband and I came in for a late lunch. Currently, I'm trying to eat healthier, so I got the salmon, which is usually a no-no in diner-type restaurants. But it was cooked perfectly! The steamed veggies were done well, too. Hooray!

Whenever I have a hankeren for a good skillet breakfast, my way, I go to Dapper's east. Fast service, good food, family friendly...AND...I usually bump into some one I know...good food....good friends....good price....don't get much better than that folks.

I was invited by a family member to have an Easter meal at this restaurant this morning. Needless to say, I was disappointed. First, the coffee was lukewarm at best. Second, the food was sub-par with very little seasoning. Last, there were many mistakes on the orders at our table. I ordered raisin toast and specified that it be only lightly toasted, but still received burnt toast. Another person at our table asked for tomatoes instead of hash browns, but still got the hash browns. After the mistake was addressed, the tomatoes came, but with a stem included. Getting refills on the coffee took forever. Good thing we didn't get charged extra to watch the waitress spill most of it every time she poured a cup. It doesn't take much to be a good server. I'm no professional chef, but I believe I could make better food than this restaurant. First impressions aren't always accurate, but more often than not they paint a clear picture of the experience on any given day. I may give this place another shot if I'm in the area again, but I definitely will not drive to the north side of Chicago with the intention of eating here specifically. Those who have been going here for years, I believe, have continued out of loyalty or friendship rather than a good dining experience. Change is in order, because if they don't, they will go the way of so many businesses. OUT of business.

Very reasonably priced for so much food. I had the Grecian chicken that came with a small Greek salad and dessert. Ended up taking most of the food home because it was too much. Friendly service, good food, reasonably priced, and free parking.

No 4 deuces here-limited menu but ok place for breakfast...kind of unmemorable...menu says its been here for 20 years? No wonder I've never heard of it :0)

I'd gone to Dappers West years ago after a Bead Society meeting, and while I liked it well enough, I didn't honestly think about it too much afterwards. But this morning, Dawn and I were doing some errands and wanted a quick breakfast before we came home to make cookies. As we were headed east anyway, she suggested we try this place, and I'm glad she did. Dappers is a classic Hot Brown Food restaurant, and the food is frankly quite good. But what really elevates the place above most other HBF places I've tried is the cleanness and the quality of the staff. Not only was the place virtually spotless -- there wasn't a speck of food on the carpet in the section where we were sitting -- but our waitress was friendly, competent and about as obliging as you could ever hope for. She even offered to take our check up to the register for us! Hot Brown Food places aren't for fine dining, they're for honest, basic, reliable meals. And Dappers is a very good specimen of the HBFR.

Just regular American food.

Tried this place out last night for a little late night dinner. I was pleasantly surprised with pretty much everything that this diner has to offer. As a start me say the service is excellent. This was the best service I've had in a long time. Our waitress did everything you could ask for and beyond. First I have to say she was just so friendly, I know that there job to be extra nice, but this didn't feel forced one bit. She brought an extra plate for my salad even tough we didn't ask for one. My partner didn't get the option for soup or salad with her meal, so it was nice even though the salad sucked balls. Two refills on soda's without us having to ask is every diners dream. She was so good I left her 11 dollars on a 26-dollar check. I just wanted her to know that her awesome service was appreciated. She deserved every penny of it. I ordered a gyro's platter, which came with a choice of soup or salad. The salad is where this place lost a point. It was so soggy, I thought they just grabbed it out of a bathtub and threw it on my plate. The dressing had too much lemon flavor for my taste as well. I pretty much only ate a piece of lettuce and the cheese. The rest of the meal was awesome. My gyro meat was cooked to perfection, well done just the way I like it. The plate included, feta cheese, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, a pita and cucumber sauce. I was impressed with how much food there was for the reasonable price. My ex ordered a tuna melt that looked very nice. They also have STEAK FRIES! I love me some steak fries. All in all it was a great dining experience. Two nice meals plus a meal to go for only 26 dollars is hard to beat. I'm excited to try out their breakfast sometime hopefully it will be as good as the dinner!

I went here 1 time - nothing special. It was for dinner though and this is probably a WAY better breakfast place. I remember the waitress telling us the soups and it was like split pea or clam chowder (sickness all the way around). But - the name of the place rocks... Dappers....every time I see the name I think that a chick with a 1940's puffy skirt is going to walk out kicking up her legs Rockette's style. (I know the visual is disturbing.)

I've been going to Dappers East, at least intermittently, for years. Their food is consistently good (for what it 'is'), service is decent, prices are average. It's your prototypical Greek-owned, way-too-big-menu place. I don't get their new hours (MINUS one star).....why have the big menu, the bar, the large space, if you're basically going breakfast-only (closing at 4, really?). Why not try to promote, cut prices, close off parts of the restaurant, take advantage of Target, etc., rather than basically give up and close at 4? Doesn't sound like a good business decision.

I really enjoy Dapper's, we go here quite a bit for lunch because my job isn't far away. I've had several different things and they're all pretty good. It's nothing to give a blue ribbon to but it's good quality food and you go away stuffed. The Chicken Supreme is maybe my favorite it's a chicken breast with bacon, lettuce and tomato on a croissant. The fries are nice and big! I also really enjoyed their burger there and their club sandwhiches. The clubs are HUGE, I only eat two parts and always have two left for the next day. I'm going again for breakfast Friday so hopefully I'll try some of this delicious breakfast food I'm reading about!!

This place has good hearty breakfast food at good prices. Its a family place. Good for kids. Keep them busy with coloring and the kids menu. Me and my family have going here forever. Good service. Their omelets are great. Will continue to go here.

I have been to Dappers East many, many times, I like it, and the food is always pretty good, service has never been all that great, but recently my in-laws, who used to love the place, stated that they no longer like it. I decided to go in and see why. I took my wife and kids in for lunch at about 2pm. The man that seated us, I think he is the owner, asked us how many, 3? No 4. He grabbed 4 menus and raced off to a table as we were still gathering the kids who were gazing at the baked goods display. He came back and said "COME ON!" very rudely. Dude, that lady who usually seats us, well dressed, pretty older lady with a Greek accect, is WAY cooler than you, you should stay in back and do the books, that attitude is not helping your failing business AT ALL. Midway through our meal our server "disappeared" leaving us with no one checking on us for over forty minutes. We never saw her again, she either went home or quit. We had kids with soup and milkshakes and they only gave us one napkin each? And water glasses filled to the brim with no straws for a 2 year old and a 4 year old? And placemats to color on but no crayons until 20 minutes later when I had to ask for them. Finally another waitress came and asked us if anyone was helping us. She hooked us up but it still took a long time to clear our dishes and I had to clean the table myself with my thin, ragged napkin. That was lame. Took a long time to get the check, when it finally came I went to pay and "older owner dude" in a stern face said, "how was everything?" I said "it was ok" He practically threw the credit card receipt at me and walked away without saying anything. Noit a good attitude to have when you are losing business during an economic downturn. I'll be back because I like the soup and the patty melts, but if the service continues to suffer I will not hesitate to allow my kids to run wild, stand on the seats, make huge messes, and leave a skimpy tip I feel is fair for very crappy service. Older Host/Owner Dude...get it together chief!

I've been going to Dappers since I was in early grade school so it will always have a special place in my heart. The restaurant is diner/family style. The biggest difference between then and now is that the prices have gone up quite a bit but the food is still bountiful and good. The owners/managers and waitresses are all really nice people. I've had most of what's on the menu and have no real complaints. I guess I could go over some highlights... The california pita pocket is yummy, being one of my favorite things to get when I don't want breakfast. I usually get breakfast, which usually involves and omelet, which are always fluffy and chock full of gooey cheese. The tapioca pudding is my go-to dessert. One important thing about dessert, the cakes can be kind of dry. Hence, the pudding preference. Everything is fresh, especially the fruit. I've had some really great fruit plates here during the spring/summer. You get a lot of food. I don't think I've ever finished a full meal here. Their coffee is really good. They serve Papa Nicolas, which I happen to like a lot. I sometimes get a vanilla latte. I guess you could say, the only things that I don't like about Dappers are the price increases over the years. That's it for now!

I have a love for diners that is unmatched by any of the 'fancy' brunch places - you know who you are. There is something noble about the simplicity of having a typical breakfast. We went here early (like 8 am on a Sunday early) and surprisingly, were not the only people there. The youngest, without a doubt. Inside, the space is much larger than I had initially thought, and immediately felt cozy. This feeling was of course enhanced by the large booth they gave us, the pouring rain outside, and the knowledge we would soon be having our arteries clogged. I had the breakfast croissant which was on special that day, and my friend had the eggs benedict. Unfortunately, the waitress came back to us after we ordered to inform that the kitchen was out of english muffins. Seriously? It was not even 9 am - you're next door to Target, GO BUY SOME! My friend opted to try it with biscuits instead, but the lack o' muffins was pretty symbolic to me of the entire visit. Our waitress was nice enough, but she forgot to bring out the side of bacon which was ordered - something she didn't even realize until the check was brought to us with the item still on it. There was also a lag in trying to get refills even though the busboys were huddled in the corner talking to a couple of waitresses instead of doing much. The food was fine, nothing exciting. I guess that's why i've waited so long to write this review - the experience wasn't all that memorable.

Your typical Chicago style diner. Hideous interior (although they do have a couple of old black & white pics of Chicago that are interesting). Service is usually very attentive and friendly. I have only been here for breakfast and it is a good, reliable choice. I only order 1 of 3 things out of the entire menu because the portions of most items are really disgustingly big and I hate to waste food. You can never go wrong with any of their egg dishes, they are always prepared well. Whatever you do though, dont order the turkey burger plate (yes, its a "low-cal option" on the breakfast menu.). I had it once and it was good, but somewhere along the line they changed it. Now it tastes like wadded up Kleenex soaked in white glue and vinegar. Vile.
(4)Iris F.
Another excellent family diner, this is my new thing this year in visiting diners for breakfast. I really enjoyed watching all the food by as I learned I shouldn't go on an empty stomach. Plus the staff was very friendly and prompt. Have a side dish of potatoes. I think the portions are large.
(5)Val B.
I was getting ready to do some Target shopping next door and stopped in Dappers for dinner pretty much because it was the only restaurant around. It's a family-style diner sort of place. Interior decorating is not so great but we had a neat old picture of Wrigley Field at our table which we loved looking at. Service was good, nice server. I ordered the Greek chicken kabobs (can't remember the Greek name for it, started with an S). The chicken was a little dry, but still it was full of flavor and the vegetables tasted fresh. This isn't the kind of place I'd recommend you to drive far to visit; however, if you're in the area and hungry, it's worth a shot.
(4)Jonathan C.
Pretty standard breakfast/lunch diner. Food is pretty good and menu is massive. One of those Greek owned places that serves everything, service was friendly and fast, place was pretty busy, but no wait to sit for me. No big strikes against the place, but no real big plusses.
(3)Christine D.
I love this place. I've been coming here since I was a little girl with my parents. The food is sooooo good. Mmm... I'm hungry! lol The waiters are always quick to keep the tables clean, the waitresses are very nice and attentive. Never have an empty coffee cup. I think the owners run a pretty tight ship here. Probably sucks to work here lol but it gets a 10 out of 10 in my book.

I just had lunch at Dapper's East today in between a foray to the T-Mobile store and Target. Conveniently located in the Addison Mall, between Western and Sacramento, Dapper's is as previously mentioned in a few of these other reviews, a pretty standard Chicago, greasy spoon, with one notable exception, it is "dapper"! Not content to stop at the name on the sign, like similar restaurants, ie. Golden Nugget in terms of engaging in its simulacra, Dapper's East in true post-modern fashion, combines elements of a Victorian gentleman's club and a late 1920s-30s night club toward a visual representation of contemporary conceptions of dapper-ness. When my companion and I entered through the large revolving door, clearly chosen for its evocation of similar doors in the grand luxury hotels of the gilded age, or perhaps just to keep the cold out we were whisked away to a dining experience that both concealed and revealed the limitations of the simulation. The booths, whose vinyl cushions are decorated with an obviously Morris inspired pattern, are set within a booth constructed of the finest maple veneer. The cushion's stepped pattern again provides the diner with a rarefied nod toward the sophistication of the era of Art Moderne. While the top cap, otherwise unremarkable, was furnished with an Japanese-inspired planter filled with a variety of artificial flora, supported by two vine-like cyma curve brackets. How very Art-Nouveau indeed! The green glass lamp shades that hang over most of the tables again, combine both modern impuses in term of their fixtures while evoking the green glass lamp shades of the reading room or again the gentleman's club. While there are other simulacral elements worthy of deconstruction, I shall not spoil all of them for you , but rather I implore you to visit Dapper's East and engage in them for yourself. The glass etchings of the dapper gentleman and his lady friend are exceptionally rarefied. As a bonus, the food is worthy of a discriminating pallette, and its servings are of substantial proportion. The staff are polite, attentive and courteous. Despite most of the clientele being of the usual crowd one would expect to find in a diner, the presence of two elderly ladies in full length minks though, left us wondering if at Dapper's East the representation truly precedes reality.

This place has EXTREMELY disappointed me. The food and the service is still good, no problems there. The problem lies with them reducing their hours to 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Lara and i used to go here quite often for dinner when we just wanted someplace quiet, and reliable where we could relax in comfort. I guess they did not have enough business for dinner. Ummmm... Before you start alienating your customer base by closing down early you could have at least tried the following ideas: 1) The place is divided into three sections. Instead of keeping the entire place open all of the time. Shut down the unused sections of the restaurant. 2) The menu is massive here. They could easily eliminate the bottom 10% sellers on their dinner options without many people even noticing at all. Due to this decision by management, it unfortunate that Lara and I will not be frequenting this place as often as we once did.
(2)Phil S.
Here's the skinny folks - it's a Greek diner. I don't know where you are from - but most likely you had a Greek diner around somewhere in your neighborhood. They all have a few things in common: 1) You will be treated like a guest in their home - and this begins the second you walk in. 2) There will be specials on a board - or placed within the menu - and at least two of them will be Greek in nature. 3) You will leave happy. All of these things apply here, and then some. Without fail, there is a nice Greek blonde woman who immediately recognizes us - as we are regulars - and seats us just as quick. I really like it here - it is the perfect Sunday morning sobering up place. Your coffee cup will always be full. You will enjoy any of the skillets - except the veggie. Their biscuits and gravy is where it is at. There is no dance floor . . . only good food.
(5)MaryAnne M.
My family been coming for years and the hostess/owner are so friendly. Every time I'm there they ask how my family is. And they honestly are wondering how everyone is. Phil said it best, it's a Greek restaurant. Grecian chicken is to die for. I love the cream of chicken rice soup on Sundays. When my 2.5 year old nephew "pays" the bill he gets a piece of candy. Great place.
(4)Nicole S.
I love this particular Dappers location. I've ordered lunch take out before from here but today I met a friend for lunch and I was beyond pleased with the service. Very friendly, quick and efficient to get me in and out of there in my lunch hour! I tried the cobb salad today and it was fantastic! Definately a couple notches above average for a cobb salad. Nice portion, quality produce and I like that they use salad greens not just iceberg or romaine lettuce. I also have to note that I LOVE the salad dressings they have spcecifically the ranch and garlic. Tastes homeade, no aftertaste like the prepared stuff most restaurants offer. My friend got a chicken panini sandwich which he raved about as well. I've enjoyed everything I've tried here, especially breakfast mmmm.... I'm glad this place is close to work since theres slim pickins as far as family restaurants in the area!

Dapper's East is conveniantly located two minutes from my apartment, so the location gets a thumbs up in my book. I've been to Dapper's numerous times since I moved to the city. Mainly on the weekends after a night of cocktails. Their breakfast is hands down dynamite. The prices coincide. I reccomend the Apple Pancakes or Strawberry Waffles. Any Egg combination with a side of bacon and pancakes is worth the trip. You can spend under $20 dollars for a breakfast for two. The service makes you feel at home and haven't had a complaint once. The only pitfall is the menu after breakfast. Lunch is still not too shabby, however, I wouldn't recommend their dinner. I've had it a couple of times including Pot Roast, Steak Salad and a beef kabob platter. All a tad dry. All in all, great place for getting some yummy breakfast with reasonable prices and mid-west hospitality.
(4)Sean J.
Probably the best diner food around. At least the best diner food I've had in Chicago, compared to about 10 other diner places I've been to. Great Matzo Ball soup, salads, scrumptious sandwiches and regular atmosphere. Nice selection of daily specials. Reuben Panini...very nice! Before going there, I was I was told the waitresses were gruff, but I find them just the opposite...almost too friendly at times. Basically, a typical diner, but better food than most.
(4)rachel p.
when i think breakfast, i think skillet. i enjoy skillet variety and i like my skillet actually served in a skillet. it's just not the same to get it on a plate. that said, the skillets at dapper's are quite tasty. i go for the veggie w/ a side of sausage (links or patties... they've got both). my boyfriend really loves the german pancake. a HUGE bowl of a thing served with powdered sugar and lemon. different from your typical, doughy, american-style pancake, but definitely tasty. i've never tried anything aside from breakfast... but i think i'd steer clear of dessert. the case at the front looks.... unappealing.
(4)Alan C.
They have skillets. The skillets are actually good. This alone is enough for me. I've been here multiple times and besides the last time I went, everything was good. I went on Sunday and it took the waitress about 40 minutes to take our order, even though she two two other tables orders that got their after us. It was somewhat understandable though, it was Sunday at like 1. Although when breakfast takes 2 hours, its a little annoying. So what did I do? Left a $10 tip on a $20 bill. Maybe that made her day better.
(4)Lorna S.
This place blows! I have given them many chances to wow me, and quite the opposite happenned, every time. The host/hostess, never goes out of their way to be friendly. The atmosphere is uncomfortable, and the food bites! The only reason I went back after the first bad meal was because I was convinced that it was probably just a bad day. Upon going back, I tried something else, and hated it. My mother really wanted to go there because they have such a big menu, and she thought she'd find something I'd like on the menu. Failed again!!! I am done with this place, and there are so many other Greek restaurants that have good food and a better atmosphere than this place.
(1)John B.
I find this place extraordinarily average. If I lived in the hood or shopped in the mall more often, I might stop in here. Or if I was retired. Or if my mother was still alive. Today, it was me, a bunch of old ladies, some with grown daughters, a few young mothers with children, a couple of guys in suits (salesmen working at or servicing the mall?), and a handful of blue collar guys. A decent crowd, none of whom you would be likely to find at the latest gastropub. I've been here a few times -- once or twice with my now-deceased mother -- and stopped in today to refresh my memory, just so I could write a Yelp review. (I was in the neighborhood.) Someone mentioned biscuits and gravy in another review, so I was pumped for that, only to discover they only serve it on weekends. I got the Monte Cristo sandwich, something I use to judge diners, and it ... well, the ham was very good. The sandwich was very moist, and not in a good way. I'll assume it was cooked in butter. I usually ask for mustard with my Monte Cristo, since it's a ham and cheese sandwich, after all, but my waitress didn't stick around long enough to ask me if I needed anything. She did bring me a refill on my soda, um, iced tea. At first I ordered a diet coke, but I changed it to an iced tea. She brought me a diet pepsi. So when she offered me a refill, it was on my "soda, um, iced tea." Yeah, too late. This place is Dappers East, and I've always wondered if there was a Dappers West. But not enough to look it up. Thanks to the wonders of Yelp, I now know that the original Dappers *is* west, at 5050 N Cumberland, and there's also a Dappers South, in River Grove. And now you know ... the rest of the story.
(3)Joe P.
This is what I would call a diamond in the rough. I ended up here randomly one afternoon when I was shopping at Target and was looking for non-fast-food to eat. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this is not the hole in the wall that you might expect from the outside. The service here is quick and very friendly. The food, although a little greasy is hot and a lot and tastes pretty good too. Although Dapper's is a little out of the way, if you ever happen to be in this area, it is a solid lunch choice.
(4)Phyllis B.
this has been a family favorite for too many years to say...the breakfast is great, especially the whole grain pancakes , omlettes are light & fluffy . the servers are efficent and the management is always very pleasant.. this restaurant is family friendly, it's a great meeting place.
(4)Dennis C.
This is a great Greek-American family restaurant. I am always received with a smile and the service is fine. The food is well-cooked and served quickly. Prices are average, not cheap but definitely acceptable for the neighborhood. Prices are better than same fare in Lincoln Park. The other night I had the Chicken De Johnge and it was very flavorful. Thank you for a delicious meal many times many times!
(4)Renato P.
This place is one of a million Greek diners in Chicago , for whatever reason , my wife's family chose this one. The service there is always ok , not great , but they don't screw much up and when they do they fix it right the first time. They have a diverse menu , and alot of it I have tried , most of it is pretty good to very good. I liked the fried chicken although the breast was a tad overdone and dry , pretty good overall. The griller sandwiches are great , I order them sans the peppers (don't like 'em , never have) and they are great , especially the steak griller. Had the fish combo , fried and what you would expect from a diner , but not bad. The sandwiches are probably the best thing they do , I usually get the BLT or the Turkey club , both excellent. They also do a great job on their soups , and there is almost always one soup of the day I like. The inlaws have converted me into a fan of this place and now I give my opinion to you , do with it what you will.
(4)Mike B.
Great food, especially the skillets. The staff is straight out of your typical Chicago greasy spoon joint, and the Greek owners contribute to the overall atmosphere. Very good place to go before heading on over to the Prop Thtr for a Factory show.

this is one of the first places i went to when i moved to chicago. it's right next to target and has convenient parking. plus, it's not fancy so my mom and i could go in during the midst of a move without being self conscious. at that time, the smoking ban was not in effect and one of the things i loved most about it was that there were 2 major sections. we got seated in the back (probably cause we looked like total dirtballs) and were able to bear witness to the waitresses on break that were either eating or smoking. it was classic alice diner type awesomeness and i've loved the place ever since. their fried chicken is great. you will seriously never leave this place hungry as they give you a ridiculous amount of food. most things come with a bowl of soup--i suggest the matzo ball--and a side. i tried the monte cristo sandwich this time as it'd been ages since i'd had one. theirs was great--not too greasy or fried etc. all the food here is quality and you don't feel like you're eating grease etc like some of the other diners. it's also possible to order something relatively healthy, but if you're in a diner why would you? i imagine that if you come here regularly you get to see quite the cast of characters. if i was going to once again take up a weekend job this would been in my top ten cause i think it'd be fun.
(5)David D.
Great breakfast fare, quiet, reasonably priced, awesome old chicago photographs on the wall. If you go here three times and you don't like something - you likely don't like much.
(4)mike l.
even the grease is coated in grease. or even the food didn't give a shit.
(2)Mandee M.
This place is okay. I find that a lot of there food is hit or miss. Sometimes it is good one day, and when you order it again it just isn't the same. Most things I have had here I can get some where else for about the same price and it is consistent, so I am not sure that I would make a special trip for it. However, I love the Matzo Ball Soup. The coffee is good, but sip it slowly if you get a particular waitress or two, they never seem to fill it up or they make you feel like they are going out of their way for it.
(3)Emily M.
lots of items on the menu to choose from, healthy options as well. the staff was friendly and pretty quick. today was my first time there, and im pretty sure i'll visit again, not sure if it will become a regular spot on my weekend "to-do"
(3)Carolyn R.
I was on a Dappers East kick, on and off for a couple of years. My gaming group was doing Call of Cthluhu, and the old-fashioned vibe of the place, coupled with the basic homey-ness of the menu made it seem appealing. It's sort of an old-people diner, with a pseudo-deco kind of air to it, and is somewhat less likely to be full of obnoxious hipsters, clove-smoking goth children, or loud, tweaking / crashing drag queens than the average area diner, which was a bonus. It was our basic default location, which added up to a considerable bit of regular business, and frequent bringing in of new customers by us regulars. But after a while I got over it. The food is pretty bland, and if it was bland but reliable, that would be great, but I got tired of things like wilted iceberg lettuce, flaccid, mushy fish, soggy burger buns, and the matzo ball soup being horribly salty after the old-people dinner rush at 3pm. So finally, after being a regular patron / generous tipper / easy-going regular for ages, one day when the host asked "how was everything?" I mentioned that the matzo ball soup was a little salty. I said this politely, and quietly (even apologetically, like a wuss) not within earshot of a single soul besides my the host, and my party. Now, I can guess that the soup was made in the morning, and sat simmering, getting saltier and saltier, it's not the worst thing in the world, but it doesn't make for a tasty dish either. He mentioned the fact that the soup had been simmering all day. Mind you it was only about 2pm, not 2 am or something. Whose fault was it that it was simmering all day getting crummy? Not mine, no? It COST the same as it did in the am when it didn't suck. but I just said "I know" in an understanding smiley kind of way, but then he made this condescending face and said "most people just pour in some water" and he actually demonstrated, pouring ice water from my water glass into my bowl, which I didn't think was a very nice or necessary thing to do. I can make boring salty matzo ball soup at home. I don't need to have someone explain how to dump ice water into my soup, I don't want cold, bland, salty soup. If you don't want to know whether or not your well-behaved, high-tipping, regular customers ACTUALLY enjoyed the food they paid for, DO NOT ASK. I only mentioned it because I felt comfortable enough as a regular to tell the truth, and assumed that they cared about me, and felt like invested in the place, as a "regular" or something, like I owed this place the truth. Well, I wasn't expecting that kind of reply, I just said "right, OK." But it wasn't OK, it was rude, I no longer felt comfortable, and realized that I was judging the place by a really lazy low standard to begin with. If this was a diner in a small town, and the only place I could go and sit with my nerdy friends without driving a zillion miles I would give it 3 stars. On the North Side, it's actually insulting to hundred other much better restaurants that actually WANT my business, and knock themselves out to give me good service, and CARE about whether or not everything they serve is fit to eat, and it suddenly seemed kind of unfair to the places that TRIED, to waste money in a place that doesn't really try. Someday I might be stuck in a nursing home and have a choice of nursing home food or nothing, but today is not that day.

Dappers has huge portions and friendly service. The prices are a little more than your typical diner, but it's not outrageous. The wait staff is really good about refilling your coffee. There's plenty of parking in the shopping plaza lot.

I have been to Dappers so many times the blonde Greek hostess and half the staff recognizes me on sight. My family has been coming here for random breakfasts, brunches, lunches, and dinner (It is a block away from my parents house in Avondale) for many years. They have one of those big, all bases covered, Chicago style, Greek owned, family restaurant type menus with everything from the classic low cal plate (Tomato, cottage cheese and hamburger patty? Why do so many places have this?) to giant baked apple pancakes. All the food is passable with a few excellent items (My family frequents Dappers for the ribs, and the beef short ribs. I used to adore the cream of chicken rice soup) but the menu is mostly forgettable. If you are a Chicago native you have probably been to several similar restaurants, and this one is nothing special. I have a problem with the fact that they have one particularly terrible, bad attitude, I get cut off after two cups of coffee (pet peeve), waitress I have complained about a few times over the years.. and I am SURE she has been there at least 10 years. The owner's daughter? Otherwise, service is good.
