"Diamond in the Rough" could not be more true! Fabulous pizza in an area not known for flashiness. We had the Funghi/mushroom pizza and the margherita pizza and it was delicious!! Cooked very quickly in the clay oven - and you can see the whole process. Cheese makes a pizza, and this cheese is amazing! BYOB is great - bring your favorite brews, along with a VERY valuable pizza cost and win/win. Pros: - Very delicious! - Friendly staff - BYOB - Great value! Cons: - the only knock (though it wouldn't lose stars because of this) is the ambiance. Music when the place is a little slower would do wonders! I really hope this place catches on! There is no reason it shouldn't be packed at dinner time with the price and deliciousness.

I'm totally going to go back here! It just opened and there's clearly some kinks to work out. (The decor isn't so great and they didn't have balsamic for our lovely plated insalate fresca.) But it was really, really delicious. My dining partner and I got focaccia, which was just incredible. You can taste that the dough is fresh. We also got a veggie pizza w/out cheese since we're both off dairy at the moment. Sauce looks house-made and zesty. Plus, it's BYO. So next time we go back, we're bringing some red with us and getting our chow on.

My GF and I went last night and ate two different pizze. We had the veggie with grilled veggies and the sausage pizza. Delicious. The sausage is made in house and had a fresh flavorful taste to it. My GF enjoyed the veggie pizza, especially the large pieces of grilled eggplant and yellow peppers. I'm more of a traditionalist and preferred the sausage pizza. Both pizze went very well with the Daisy Cutter beer we brought with us. The waitress was warm and attentive to our needs. It was a pleasant surprise to see real pint glasses provided for our beer. I'm sure once Meme has settled in the decor will improve, but for now it's very basic. It can't be stressed enough that Meme with 25 years of pizza making experience in Italy, takes great pride in what he produces. Watching him prepare the pies you can see he is a master. Not only that he is welcoming and friendly.

I loved this pizza - my husband and I have ordered delivery several times over the past few months. Unfortunately I tried ordering this evening and the phone number did not work, and the website is down. I checked with several neighbors who confirmed it has not been open for a few weeks. I think Ciao Bella is no more - very sad!

I really wanted to like this place. It's walking distance from my house and there is no other good Italian/Pizza joints near by. While the staff was nice they were also very lackadaisical. Our waitress spent most of our time there sitting off to the side texting or talking to a table of her friends. An Italian restaurant should have the basics (i.e. salt, pepper, oregano, red pepper, olive oil, and parm) on the table. Also, the olive oil should taste like olive oil not some watered down, light veggie oil. Appetizer: Foccia was a cooked pizza crust with a sprinkling of seasoning. This was not bread it was a flavorless cracker. I don't think these people know what foccia is. The Pizza: We ordered the prosciutto and "fresh" mushroom pizza. The crust was decent, the cheese was mild...almost flavorless, the mushrooms clearly came from a can and were flavorless. The Prosciutto was the only thing on the pizza that had any flavor and even that was pretty mild. The ambiance of the place was horrid. Pale yet vibrant neon lighting to make everyone and everything look sad and slightly diseased. There was a bad paint job on the walls that complemented the fake wood tacked up around the bottom half of the wall. All of the furniture, including the counters, appeared have come from an alley. Like I said, I really wanted to like it. I could've overlooked the decor and inattentive waitress had the food been good. Hopefully they'll get it together soon.

We had heard that this place had decent pizza and decided to order via GrubHub. Our order was placed at 5:50 with a delivery estimate of 6:50 to 7:00. 7:15 rolls around and no pizza. I call the store directly and the man who answers the phone tells me that my pizza has gone out for delivery. I wait until 7:50, a full 2 hours after I've ordered, and call GrubHub to complain. GrubHub is able to contact the restaurant and they say it'll be another 20 minutes. So I was either lied to initially or their delivery drivers are navigational challenged and driving rascal scooters. Either way, I was done at this point. I cancelled my order with GrubHub, resigned myself to frozen pizza, and won't be ordering again. I can't see this place surviving unless they figure out their operations in a hurry.

Fantastic pizza near our family! Finally, finally! This is really lovely thin pizza cooked quickly in a one of those blazing hot wood fired ovens. It was nice watching the chef create ours pizzas, and nice to see the stacks of wood and the fire blazing away. I want to tell these folks that the place just needs dimmer lights and a little ambiance, and it will be fantastic. Even so, if you can BYO and have a delicious 15" cheese pizza for $6.95, one can hardly quibble. The sausage pizza and fresh mushrooms on our second pizza ($12.95) were also terrific. Our kids loved the pizza and the Nutella calzone, a gigantic dessert that would feed 6 or so for $5.95. It is basically a pizza dough folded and warmed in the wood oven with Nutella in and out! This place deserves your business if you like this kind of pizza! So reasonable, friendly, authentic AND free parking!!!!!!!!

Ordered a cheese pizza to try these guys out. Wow! Awesome crust, and great sauce to cheese ratio. I will definitely be ordering their pizza from now on. Hands down the best thin crust Neapolitan wood-fired pizza in the neighborhood. Very happy with this new addition, I hope they are successful.

Great pizza initially but dont seem they can keep up with demand, pizza showed up an hour late cold, definitely sitting around. Hire more delivery guys.

Every pizza/calzone I've had here has been delicious. So far I've had their Italiana, Bismark, Mare E Monti, Calzone Farcito, and the pizza with eggplant (I don't see it on the menu here). Their ingredients look and taste fresh. I think ordering for pick-up is the way to go since their ambience is lacking. I've had delivery from them too, and they delivered when expected. Their Insalate Fresca is a little overpriced for what it was, but it was fresh.

While I understand that this place just recently opened and has some kinks to work out, there are just some issues that are not because a place is new. 1. We ordered the caprese and focaccia. The caprese was OK, the tomatoes were definitely not ripe, maybe that just comes with the season. The focaccia was basically just a pizza crust with some oil and seasonings on it. While you can tell that the crust was fresh, it just didn't have much flavor to it. 2. We ordered the sausage and the margherita pizzas. The sausage was definitely fresh - so that pizza was good. Our margherita pizza was just a cheese pizza - no basil, no mozzarella, just a cheese pizza. 3. At the end of our meal, we asked to have the bill split between two credit cards and we were told that can't happen. I don't know of many places that cannot split one check between two credit cards. Just irritating. I will probably be back again because I want to support the restaurants that are close to me. Hopefully, by the time I make it back again they will have gotten their act together and ironed out some of the kinks.

Ciao Bella Pizza features truly authentic wood fired Italian Pizza, and a welcoming yet cozy atmosphere. First of all, my wife and I have been to northern Italy and have had true Italian pizza, and this pizza is the real deal. They use a high quality flour and hand make all their pizza crusts. They offer thin pizza and calzones. The chef is from Italy and you can watch him make your pizza from start to finish. They do not currently offer gluten-free pizza.

After recently moving home from italy, I was having some major authentic pizza withdrawals. Thank you Ciao Bella Pizza for coming to my rescue! This place is delicious, the diavola being my favorite! Service is great, owner is as nice as can be, and just an awesome neighborhood spot to support. Welcome to Albany Park, Ciao Bella! BYOB, so make sure you bring some vino rosso!

Great wood fired pizza, good prices, easy parking, super tiramisu and service! Diavola was really good and the 3-meat pizza (can't remember the name!) was so good! We will be back!!

This is definitely the worst pizza I ve tried. In the menu Romana pizza says it has anchovies, I couldn't even find a single one in mine, It had tomato paste and garlic that's it. The prosciutto e fungi one says it has fresh mushrooms, well mine had canned mushrooms that tasted horrible. On top of all the pizza was burned on some sides and the cheese tasted old. Needless to say I would never order from there again

If you are a fan of a real pizza, I mean Italian pizza and not the Giordano or Gino east style of pizza, you have to try this place. I ordered at least 5 times and never waited more that 30 minutes for delivery (I do live close by). Delicious.

There is definitely some room for improvement here, but the good outweighs the bad, and the neighborhood needs a place like this. I really did enjoy the pizza, and will be going back for more. Now... We ordered for pickup. The guy said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I showed up after 20 minutes, and they were just making them. Hadn't even put the cheese on. The place was empty, not sure what the hold up was. My wife wanted to get a mushroom pizza, but when I asked what kind of mushrooms they use, the guy just said, "canned." Pass. She wound up with the four cheese pizza, which was pretty awesome. I ordered the pizza with bacon and cheese (the number 6, I think). Unfortunately, the bacon was totally raw. I don't need it to be burnt to a crisp or anything, but I draw the line at uncooked bacon. The chef says that they way they do it in Italy is to take the bacon out of the freezer (???) and put it on the pizza just before it comes out of the oven. Fine, but it's still raw bacon on a pizza. Fair warning. They were very nice about it, though, and delivered a replacement pizza (the sausage pizza, which was also really, really good). The decor inside is seriously lacking, they're a bit scattered it seems, and I disagree with them about the appropriate level to which bacon should be cooked, but all of those things are superficial. What really matters is, do these guys have good wood-fired pizza? The answer is yes. I recommend it - just not the bacon.

Go to this place NOW to support them. You would, never ever expect such delicious, fresh and authentic pizza to come out of this nondescript storefront with a neon green handmade posterboard sign on the window, but I am telling you - it's the best dang pizza I've had in a LONG time. I'm a Chicago native growing up on Chicago pizzas - and my favorite pizza I've ever had is John's in NYC (gasp!). This rivals John's. I know I know, insane. Location is good for me - close to home. Location is not so good for them - not swanked out in a trendy part of town (maybe that's not such a bad thing since it's slim-pickin's up here). I fear they will not do well for a couple of reasons, the most important being location. There is no art on the walls, the lighting is terrible, furniture is not comfy, service is very nice and fast - but they would not fare well with a large crowd. HOWEVER, this can be improved, whereas the pizza could not possibly be better. For this place to stay open, people will venture from everywhere in the city to get it. Speaking of service, we walked in and were greeted by the owner, a large happy Italian man. He gifted us the nutella desert. Basically nutella on pizza crust with whipped cream - simple but amazing. I don't know what kind of flour they're using for their dough but I think it's probably the key to the flavor, not the Lake water as a lot of Chicago people think. For pizzas, we had the bufalina and the grilled vegetable. Also got the burrata as an appetizer. So fresh, so delicious. Pizza is loaded with sauce and cheese, without taking away from that delicious crust. I can't wait to go back again and again - and I HOPE they stay open! Thanks.

I love their pizza, but tonight had the worst experience. Ordered at 5:51 p.m. via GrubHub. The order was delivered at 6:47 p.m. One of the pizzas was not correct, so we called the restaurant immediately to report and request the correct pizza be delivered. At 8:08 the pizza still had not arrived. We called again and they said it was very busy tonight and would be out of the oven in 5 minutes and delivered immediately. At 9:36 we called again. The man was very rude, saying he has sent it out twice so he had no idea why we didn't have our pizza, but that he would send it out again. At this point we asked to cancel the pizza. He said we had to call GrubHub, which we did. After they called the restaurant they refunded our money. I tend to be understanding when restaurants are over busy and understaffed, but the rudeness was inappropriate. They insinuated that is was our fault that we had not received our pizza. Not Cool.

Go for the pizza, not the ambiance. We had the regular cheese pizza (for the kids), the sausage pizza (for us) and a large garden salad to share. You could taste the freshness of the ingredients - the pizza was delicious. Reminded me of new york style pizza that you fold in half but better. There was a little bit of a language barrier with the server, but such is life in Chicago....the order was correct. There are two tvs, it's byob, they for sure changed the music around depending on the age/demographic of customer in the restaurant as we ate which was totally fine. Best of all, this place is very reasonable. The pizzas are 16 inch and after two pizzas and a huge salad we were out of there paying about 35 dollars after tip. Also, just a heads up, it's the only open business in a dark, empty strip mall. So....easy parking in the lot. Will for sure go here again with or without the kids.

We think they have lost their Italian pizza maker. The last two times we have been in, the local understudy was at the oven. When we asked the waitress (still the same one) where the regular star attraction pizza maker was, we were told he's "sick". The pizza, alas, is no longer what it was. We keep driving by, and peeking in...it's still not the expert manning the wood oven. Just goes to show how many jobs are not as easy as they may look. Now, the pizza crust has lost its magic, crispy feel. I hope they can get back former star, or find someone with equal abiility quickly. We are soooo disappointed.

I don't write reviews but this is a must. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I would love to rate this restaurant just on the pizza but sadly we never got it! There were 2 other tables when we got there so not busy. We order the burrata and 1 pizza. It took over 35 minutes to get our burrata. It's cheese. 35 minutes for cheese?!? Then it was time to wait for the pizza. 2 tables that came after us all got their pizza before us. I guess because we ordered the app, that counted as our "turn" in the pizza oven and we had to wait until their pizzas were done to maybe make ours. After 55 minutes, we finally caught our waitress who said 5 minutes...well 10 minutes later we still didn't have it and decided that's enough! No apology, nothing. We asked for the check and it took 5 minutes to get it and she never comes to pick it up. Had to walk up and physically hand it to her. Oh and this is all while the owner (I assume) stood there looking down at his iPad, ignoring it all. No discount, no apology, nothing. I know the pizza reviews are good! I saw a few bad reviews but thought maybe I should give it a try. REGRET! If you try this place, I hope you have better experience.

Great pizza...but possibly the worst service I have ever had. The guy in charge (possibly the owner?) is rude and insanely unorganized. Although the pizza is really good our experience was so terrible we will NEVER be back.

Delivery took an hour and a half and arrived only minutes after we called to find out where our pizza was. The pizza was cold and had a layer of grease sitting on it like it had been sitting out a while. I had a slice while i was preheating my oven and it was pretty good.

This new restaurant has really great wood fired, thin crust pizza. They have several vegetarian pizzas and a handful of seafood pizzas to go along with the Italian classics. There are also about a dozen appetizers to choose from. BYOB. The staff is very friendly. Parking is off street and plentiful. It's a great location as there are not a lot of quality pizza options in Albany Park. I give Ciao Bella kudos for doing market research before opening this restaurant!

Excellent pizza -- but know you're getting Neapolitan style -- and FAST! Ready for pickup in 10-15 minutes. The white pizza was excellent, and the prosciutto e funghi was a perfect recreation of a childhood favorite. Can't wait to try more varieties! Tell your friends, and let's make sure Ciao Bella stays in Albany Park!

Excellent pizza, i'll be returning to get carry out often. Like others have said, they use authentic ingredients and were classically trained in Italy, and it shows in the quality. We tried a margherita and an arugula pie, both were very tasty with fresh ingredients. The restaurant itself needs work. There is zero atmosphere or decor, so skip it for date night. The waitress was sweet but also on her phone the whole time. Staff was friendly, and we were the only dine-in patrons on a weeknight. Will most likely stick to carry-out from now on. Bottom line, great pizza, good value. Skip the dine-in option.

  • Laura H.

Our dine-in experience was fine- our pizzas came out fast (within 20 min of ordering?) and tasty. That is, once they took our order. Took at least 10 minutes to speak to someone and get a bottle opener. There was one waitress handling the tables as well as putting together the take-out and delivery orders (more on that later). Pint glasses for beer, but no glass of water. From our table in middle of the place we got a great picture of the DISASTER that is their take-out/delivery business, at least on a Friday evening. I was embarrassed for them. The waitress was nice and apologetic but the guy taking orders wasn't particularly friendly to people who had waited 2+ HOURS for pizza. People picking up would sit there for over an hour. They take on way more orders than they can which leads to people cancelling in exasperation anyway. Don't place a big order- this poor woman ordered 6-8 pizzas to pick up and got the first two, then 40 minutes later two more, then 40 minutes later two more...they finally left (I can't believe how patient they were) with 5 pizzas on the table. And the manager was pissed about it- "After all this, they leave?!" Well yeah, what good is ordering nice pizza when you go home with five cold pizzas because you waited two hours for your full order?

We visited here the second time. The appetizer, caprese, was good but lacks a wow factor. However, the primavera pizza (containing arugula, tomatoes, ricotta cheese crumbs) was outstanding. The only minor glitch was that the pizza was not "cut," but I know my hands are sharper than a pizza cutter...lol! The pizza master even offered the tiramisu on the house, but we kindly declined it. Hey, speaking a foreign language, in this case, Italian, can get you far...just saying!

Tonight I tried the Hawaiian pizza. Delivery took an hour 20 and only arrived minutes after I called to check status. I think they were holding order because they wrote down the wrong zip code for my credit card. The pizza was cold, the 4 slices of ham on it looked artsy, but didnt really count towards flavor since half the slices had none. The panna cotta's chocolate sauce was everywhere in the bag. The texture was rubbery and had no flavor. I'm really disappointed because I enjoyed the Quattro Formaggi from previous order. The person I called back to complain to, blamed the driver. He offered to make me something special next time I order. I don't think I'll trust delivery again after seeing other complaints on here as well. I'll try dine in next time because I'm desperate to find a local pizza place in my new neighborhood.

The pizza here is SO GOOD. For the price (cheap!), it's as good as it gets. Seriously good pizza. I might say that Spacca Napoli pizza is a little bit better, but their prices are way higher. I have eaten in the restaurant twice and had good service both times. The only detractor for me (thus one missing star) is the very spartan decoration; it seems like they do a lot of take out business and this might be why. If you're not trying to impress anybody with a designers eye, this is a great spot for pizza.

This place just broke the rules!! I thought that there was an unwritten pizzeria rule where you can't serve a buffalo mozzarella pizza for under $15. This place is a hidden gem which will soon become an established joint. I've been looking for a pizzeria in the area that delivers NY style slices with quality ingredients and Ciao Bella is the answer. Yeah sure, there are other places in the city that do it, but not at these prices. Crust - Thin with a little char on the crust. Chewy. Sauce - Light and sweet. Ingredients - Italian style toppings. Choices such as prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella, arugula and shrimp. Tip: There is only 1 pizza size. 1 pizza fed about 2 hungry people. Although it's not the huge NY slices, the price justifies ordering more pizzas. This review is for delivery so I can't account for the dine in experience. Delivery was quick. I will be ordering from here often. My new go to pizza joint. Gotta come back to try the pizza with an egg or the one with wurster.

Incredibly great thin crust pizza (great flavor & fresh ingredients) at a steal of a price! Went with a group of 15 people, ordered close to 15 pizzas and spent only $12/person (including 20 percent plus tip). The owner is great - came out to our table multiple times to see how things were. The focus is definitely on the food and friendly service, rather than a classy looking restaurant. It's rare to get such great tasting food at a low price. This place is a hidden treasure!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
