This is contemporary Mexican takeout. It's very clean and chic inside. You order food from the counter, you seat yourself, and food will be served. Credit card is accepted. Cemitas arabe: popular for cemitas which is homemade sesame bun loaded with your choice of meat. I chose the popular Arabe which is a spit roasted pork, which was very tasteful. The cemitas is like a size of a burger. The combination of oxacan cheese, avocado, special sauce on the tablet, and the warm soft sesame bun was full of flavor. Quesadilla with chicharron: This is a jumbo size quesadilla that can cover your whole face. The cashier rcmd ordering with chicharron (pork rind). Sounds heavenly and ready for a heart attack. It was delicious with the chihuahua cheese and the crispyness of the pork rind. Minus one star because I was only able to eat half the cemitas and half of quesadillqa. This is quite a heavy meal, perhaps would be a good choice for hangover.

The Atomica. That's it. The apex of human achievement in sandwich construction. There may be other sandwiches that are *as good* as the Atomica, but there are none *better*.

This is my now my go-to Mexican spot, which I just tried for the first time yesterday during lunch. The place is clean, the tables were solid (I hate rickety tables!), decor pleasant and very inviting, yet modern. Outdoor seating was available, though I opted out due to the weather. The food was great, simple (seemed like only a few ingredients), and delicious. I tried the chicken quesadilla and chicken cemitas. Three different chilled sauces were brought to my table and I had a very enjoyable lunch. I did like that there were cloth napkins and regular flatware, as someone else noted, since plastic is not only annoying but seems wasteful. The staff was very attentive. I guess my only criticism, if you can call it that, was that the dinner knife wasn't quite strong enough to efficiently cut the cemitas in half like I did. I mean I still managed, so maybe it doesn't matter. Will definitely be back again.

Quality depends on the type of cemitas gotten. 3: I was there a couple weeks ago, and had the beef tongue cemita. It was served cold, almost chewy and raw. Complemented by the green salsa. It was interesting but I would not be ordering it again. I wish it were better seasoned. My friend got the Atomica and loved it. Now they had a half priced promotion on Doordash. I ordered the maximum possible. 4: the Al Pastor Cemita was decent. It is a very large portion, the bread is soft and doughy, but most of all, the meat, cheese-string patty, and some avocado are fried to a very nice combination. It's definitely not quite Xoco's level, but then again it's a lot cheaper. 2: Milanesa Cemita .. Very meh. The meat was not very fresh, and it did not make my tastebuds happy. 3.5: Veggie Cemita. Zucchinis, onions, green peppers, and button mushrooms. It is overall, done very well and will satisfy many a vegetarian. There's the right level of umami goodness, and with the green and red salsas, it goes down very well.

Let me preface this review by saying that I did not order the tacos, chalupas, quesadillas, or ceviche. Go for their namesake, and get Cemitas here. Specifically the Cemita Atomica. That sandwich alone is enough to warrant the 5 stars. So how do they make their sandwiches here? First, start with a sesame bun which is large enough to hold all the meat, while still being soft and flavorful. Next, a layer of fresh avocado, which brightens the sandwich and adds a healthy dose of fat and creaminess. Then your meat. Of course, at this point you've already decided to order the Atomica, which has 3 meats(ham, breaded pork loin, and grilled pork loin). And then top with Oaxaca cheese, the perfect texture between melted and stringy, and another bun. You order at the counter, and then they bring the food out to you and clean up after you as well. They also provide you with 3 house hot sauces, which are all delicious. I like to mix the orange and red one, and spread it generously on my cemita as I scarf it down. The portion is also quite sizeable; you will not be hungry after one of these sandwiches. Next time I come by, I think I'll give the Carne Asada Cemita a try. Or maybe just stick to the Atomica again. 3x the meat, 3x the deliciousness.

Honest review: i saw this restaurant on check please and dinners drive ins and dives so i had to come here and see if it was better then rick bayless's xoco it wasnt. So this is more of a u order u sit down and they bring u ur food i dont like this type of service cause it always ends up with them forgetting something or like we have to get up and ask for like to go bags and clean plates etc. the service was a little mixed they werent really helpful or gave good recommendations and they forgot something we ordered and we waited a really long time for a to go bag like nobody came by and was like hey u guys are ok? Which i found odd because they were just standing in the kitchen not doing anything if ur gonna be lazy then at least hide so i dont see u or pretend to work. One good thing though was they exchanged something we didnt like for something else with no additional charge which is good because some places dont care. Regarding the atmosphere its cute i like the skull aspect of the restaurant its really cool and modern i would say a total hipster spot for sure. Ceviche: i was really disappointed with this. Im mexican so i had my share of ceviches in my life and this was nothing special like its basically a pico de gullo ( spicy mexican tomato salad) with tilapia. It says it came with octopus and shrimp i didnt see any octopus at all like none and there was like the tiniest amount of shrimp. The actual taste of it was really bland needed salt alot of seasoning heat and lemon or lime. Then there was hardly any seafood in it. The chips were seasoned good but were old dont ever serve me old chips no eww not im not an animal and they were kinda greasy too wouldnt order this again Cemita pata: pata is either chicken feet pork feet or cow feet in this case its cow feet. Ik ur thinking like omg why would u wanna eat that sounds gross like ewww i would never but the weird things always taste the best always try everything dont be afraid to try new things. Ive had pata before and its really good if done properly that means removing the hair yes sometimes it has hair and seasoning it properly. It tastes better on a tostada i was skeptical seeing it on a cemita and i should have just not ordered it but i did. My mom ordered it and took one bite and was like omg its horrible like she was so happy and excited because she likes this And she looked so sad like a child not getting what they want for christmas so then i tried a lil bite and was like eww no i cant. Something about it was just really off putting like there was no seasoning so it just tasted like straight from the jar which is not a good thing so we asked for something else and god was loving me extra hard today and the waiter gave us something else instead woot woot! Cemita atomica: this was amaizing i was really skeptical about trying a cemita because i never had one before so this was a complete new experience for me. Picture torta bread with sesame seeds and just having a better taste to it like its not bland ver delicous. This cemita comes with jamon, carne enchilada, melanesa. Omg it was huge like literly i couldnt finish it was so much meat!!!!! What i also enjoyed was there wasnt any of ur typical mexican fillers lettuce, tomato, rice, or beans just all tasty goodness! They put so much cheese on here like if u try to squish the sandwhich all the cheese would be acting like a spring which will make u not be able to squish it. All the flavor combinations worked beutifully together like it was so good. The melanesa was cooked perfectly not to thin not to thick not greasy seasoned really well. The jamon was tasty not salty or processed tasting. Only complaints were there was way to much jamon like it was mostly that and i didnt see any carne enchilada(grilled pork loin)?? Just put less jamon snd more of other ingredients and boom best thing ever! Cemita melanesa(breaded pork loin): when the pata was a failure we asked for this instead. Ok the problem is that the melanesa was really thin think like paper thin there were two pieces but for a big torta? Just the meat to bread ratio was off either put more melanesa or another meat or make it into a toco instead because it didnt work still tasty though just needs more meat! Taco arabe(spit roasted pork and onions): be warned if u dont like spicy food dont order this! Because u might get a heart attack its not like omg u eat it and ur head explodes but it is spicy. omg this was heavenly. When i opened it up it didnt look appetizing but omg was it good it was seasoned perfectly not bland at all the grilled onions really enhanced the taco Chalupa: This was not a traditional chalupa it was just 4 tacos covered in cheese lol the carne asada tasted amaizing but some of the pieces were completely burned Cookie: i was expecting that typical dry flavorless mexican cookie polvoron but it was really good not the worst not the best the chocolate however wasnt so tasty tasted cheap Ricecrispy not goo

Just got take out from Cemitas Pueblas. Walked in, I wasn't quite ready to order, so the gentleman at the counter took a phone call. I then stood for over 5 minutes as 6 other members of the staff stood around or were cooking and no one took my order. I proceeded to order 4 tacos and guacamole. With one other couple inside the restaurant, it took 6 humans 25 minutes to produce 4 tacos and guacamole. Pretty disappointed in the level of service as I was excited to try this place and live right next door. Other parties came in and were actually served before me as well (served within about 10 minutes). The tacos were average, guac was great, service was terrible. Will not be back and would not recommend. Management seems to be their largest issue.

    (2)
  • Lauren S.

Great, great tacos! I love the authentic variety offered here, including horchata alfajores and lime jarritos. The guac is also pretty good! Similar to Frontera in price point and quality, but you never have to stand in line!! The place is very open, has room for group seating, and isn't crowded. So if you're up for a quick bite, I highly recommend!

  • Geoffrey B.

The food and ambiance were great. I had 2 tacos - the taco orientales and the taco arabe, both very delicious. I docked a star for the horchata, which was way too sweet, as the guacamole, which was just average.

    (4)
  • Jessica P.

The taco de chorizo is so good. The service was amazing. The horchata was also very tasty. The rice and beans? Not so much. Not sure of the restaurant is catering to the gueros in the area but they need to put more flavor in the food. The beans had no salt and the rice seemed like minute rice. They can do so much better.

    (3)
  • Bryant E.

Tried the Cemitas Atomica. It was... Okay to say the least. Not the best, not the worst. We also ordered the chips and guacamole. The chips was kinda stale, the guac was too creamy and lacked flavor. At least the people were very nice, and you get a lot of food for your money. So that's a plus!

  • Emily M.

So good. They cater too! Love their food. Outstanding chips and guac.

I didn't wait long to come back on a 2nd visit coz the first was such a hit. This time I was feeling adventurous, so I asked about the Pata (cow foot). The person at the cashier was nice enough to give me a taste, he also gave me the excellent suggestion of ordering it warm, even though typically it's served cold. Cow foot is basically beef tendon. The cold sample I had was well-cooked but still chewy, it also had a nice subtle tang to it. But the warm one...OMG...melt-in-mouth buttery texture. If you're adventurous, definitely give it a try!

We happened in here on accident but my taco-loving husband was very happy. The staff was very helpful in making recommendations for our first time in. We ordered and shared: the milanesa cemitas, the taco arabe, pastor and asada. We also did the chips and salsa with fresh pico. Our clear favorites were the milanesa and the arabe. The milanesa was crispy and the chipotle salsa was delicious. There was also a nice ratio between the stuff and the sesame seed roll. The arabe taco was unique and different. It was roasted pork and onions with this amazing chipotle sauce that was very flavorful. The other tacos were good but these two dishes stole the show. They also had great salsas - a mild avocado, medium chipotle and a hot sauce. We will definitely be back.

I'm so glad Cemitas Puebla is close to me and It will reduce my cravings for Xoco. They primarily have cemitas or tacos. Cemitas are are sandwiches with your choice of 10 fillings on a sesame seed roll, with avocado, chipotle sauce, and Oaxacan stringy cheese. I had the Arabe (spit roasted pork and onions) which was delicious - I wish I was still eating it. The onions were nicely charred to a crisp. Try to go when the weather is good as the front is open like a garage.

We went to Cemetas on North ave all the time. While the food is still very good and the restaurant is nice, we felt that the food was so much better at the one on North ave. We were already driving over half an hour to get there and now's it's further away. Not worth the drive for us. But if we lived near by, it would be a regular place for us. We miss you.

I went to Cemitas for the first time today, and was so excited to stumble upon this little slice of Mexican sandwich heaven. I started with the chips and guacamole. SUPER fresh guacamole, homemade deep-fried chips, and three sauces at the table. Green (mild), red (medium), and RED HOT (hot). I also got the Pollo Cemita with avocado, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. Super tasty flaky bread, savory meat, and delightful mixings. Notably, the cheese looks like it's freshly hand-shredded and piled onto the meat in thin strips--absolutely divine. Definitely enjoyed this high-end little fast food establishment. The service is extremely friendly and the waitstaff deserves a tip. A PLEASURE having a casual little lunch in this classy west loop gem. :)

Walk in through open sliding doors you hear some awesome Mexican music that wants to make you BILA! !! The counter has an open kitchen where you can see all the goodness being made fresh. Spits filled with marinade pastor couple different ways. The cemitas are sooo good pastor on a grilled homemade sesame seed roll layered with abaca do homemade Chipotle says oaxacan cheese pulled high. The fresh guacamole has so much flavor. Just come in and try it. By the way this is the second location.

Happy Four Year Yelp Anniversary to me! I figured I'd celebrate by writing about one of my all time favorite sandwiches in the great city of Chicago. This location definitely holds up to the same standards to their Humboldt Park counterpart. Now, I wanted to razz on this place so bad and rave about how much more authentic and welcoming the Humboldt Park location is...but I got off my high horse and settled down with my favorite Milanesa cemita and a big glass of horchata. Like a baby with a pacifier. But instead of a pacifier, it's really just a big cutlet of breaded pork. Instead of sitting on the curb (my first experience with Cemitas a few years ago) my dining companion and I ate lunch in a well lit and gorgeously decorated dining room, complete with a sugar skull installation that every hipster in town will likely recreate as a DIY project. Thanks for bringing a little piece of sandwich heaven to the West Fulton Market area, Cemitas. I'll see you soon!

  • Robert G.

Not as good as the Humboldt Park original, but still awesome. So for those of you afraid to venture into ethnic enclaves in Chicago, you are only experiencing half of the awesomeness. This location has craft beer for sale and the horchata only comes in one size.

  • Dee B.

It was pricey for the amount of meat that were in the tacos. I got it as take out and I wasn't impressed and I have had great tacos. The chips were the best part of my meal and the rice was really bland. It had no flavor and that's not okay for Mexican rice.

Wonderful looking spot on Fulton. They serve cemitas and tacos and serve beer in the bottle and cans.

Let me preface this review by saying I will have to give this place another shot once I become a little less gunshy. Love the premise, branding, the location and the space however everything was wrong about my experience. Too bad because I had such high hopes! I ordered 3 tacos -- Al pastor (spicy pork), Presidente Precioso (steak and chorizo), and Pollo (chicken) to go. After the cook was done having a casual 5-minute conversation with a friend in the dining room, while I anxiously awaited, he finally decided it was time to attend to the line that was forming. Upon unpacking at home, I realized they messed up and gave me a "carne" instead of a pollo, though upon unwrapping it looked like chicken so I'm not really sure what I got? We'll call it chicken I guess ... and it was not bad, not great but had I had 3 chicken tacos I'd give this place another star because the following tacos wouldn't have left a bad impression on me... The Presidente was not bad but both that and the pastor were somewhat overcooked and burnt and left a bitter taste in my mouth. Additionally the al pastor lacked any flavor at all! ... it was bland as could be, despite being told it was spicy by the restaurant. The red and green sauces they gave me were the only saving grace, though I think saving is the wrong word as they didn't really fix the bad tacos, but merely helped cover it up, but simply couldn't do a good enough job of even that. Next time, I'll try the cemitas ... I was really excited for some powerful, flavorful mexican food at a joint in my neighborhood too!

It was everything I hoped it was. The Atomica is for those that can eat. I was full on just it. Great with a Jarrito de Limon. The combo and flavor was amazing.

I came in here expecting to love it. I concede that my expectations were high as I am an ardent fan of XOCO and love sandwiches with flair. Unfortunately I was underwhelmed both times I dined at Cemitas. The restaurant space is small but tastefully appointed. The sandwiches and tacos were a bit under seasoned and a tad over cooked in my opinion. The horchata was quite boring and felt like it had been poured out of a can. The sauces they serve with the food just didn't hit the spot either. The service, however, was friendly and prompt. Overall I would give Cemitas a solid OK... But, for better or for worse, in a neighborhood like the west loop... OK is code for 'gone in six months'... Step up your game guys!

Place is good for lunch. The Cermitas are huge the quesadilla not so much. Prices are a bit high for what you get but if you are in the area definitely try it.

The milanesa cemita is arguably the best sandwich ever!

They have many pork and beef options that are treated and seasoned in a variety of ways for the tacos and cemitas. I have had them all and all are capital. Fast and courteous service, minimal decor, quiet outdoor seating, and craft beer and liquor make this a must stop in the West Loop.

I went here on a dead Monday night because this place was on my "to do" list for quite some time. I had the pork Cemita and Taco Orientales to start out with. When I ordered these two items, I noticed on the menu that the Cemita came with no sides nor did I even see any meal options on the menu, so I ordered two items hoping they were big enough in size for me. The Cemita was excellent and packed quite a flavor punch, the bun was awesome and complimented the rest of the sandwhich very nicely. The avacodo and the piled high cheese were an excellent addition. The Taco Orientales was tasty but not as good as the Cemita though, but still quite good, the spit roasted pork was succulant. After I ate these two items I was still totally hungrey, it just was not enough food for me, so I went back up and ordered the Pata Cemita (Cow Foot Cemita). This Cemita was served as cold meat on it, which was quite tasty. I enjoyed it but not nearly as much as the Pork Cemita, I just wanted to be exotic and adventurous I guess. If I were you I would skip the Pata Cemita because others are way better. The reason I give 4 instead of 5 stars is because the portions really suck for what you pay. The Cemita is small in size yet it is $8, and the tacos are $3-4 and normal size. THey have no meals on their menu which really sucks for us bigger eaters. I spent well over $20, and I was still somewhat hungrey afterward, because the Cemitas are small. Do not come here for dinner unless you eat like a bird. This is a place for lunch or sampling not to have a whole meal.

A decent sandwich... I got a carry out order of the arabe cemita, which is a sandwich with pork and onions, cheese, avocado spread, and chipotle sauce. I was worried about the bread being too much since it looks really thick, but it actually complements the contents of the sandwich well and I like that it's made in-house. The pork and onion filling was a lot less flavorful than I was expecting. I ended up using a lot of salsa to make up for that. I really enjoyed the hot salsa and the one that's kinda like a spicy BBQ sauce. The cheese reminded me of some type of string cheese, but it was good on the sandwich. I couldn't taste the avocado spread, so it might be worth springing for the extra avocado. Overall, it's a decent sandwich, but not as tasty as the one I've had from XOCO. I wouldn't go out of my way to get food here again, but I might get it if I'm ever in the area.

We had Cemitas Puebla cater a party for us yesterday and it was a big hit. They did a great job; the sandwiches, rice, beans and guacamoe were all terrific.

Saw the place (actually the other location that I think is now closed) on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. Tried the quesadilla with chicharon and cemitas arabe (spit pork and onions) that were on the show. Both were good, particularly the cemitas. Also had the guacamole and chips and a chicken taco. Liked the 10 choices for cemitas - there is bound to be a meat on the list you are having a craving for (less the veggie and cow foot ones; unless that's your thing). 3 homemade salsas on each table in squeeze bottles; good favors that complemented the food. Overall impressions - good Mexican food (can't comment on the authenticity related to the Puebla region because I have not been to that part of Mexico), really good for lunch, liked the feel of the place, tables were being bussed very attentively, don't care much for the neighborhood (parking is a bitch). I'd definitely go back.

    (4)
  • M J.

The party's over. The food quality doesn't match the original location (my tacos arabe were loaded with fat) and guilting people into leaving a huge tip with an iPad cash register is an unbelievably awful way to treat customers. Most of your customers will just go away quietly without telling you that your stupid register was the straw that broke the camels back. You still have a chance - here's what to do: 1: Beg the boys from the old place to make the long drive and start cooking again. 2: Get rid of the stupid iPad register and put out a tip cup. The Google drones aren't idiots who will come back because of your technology - they just want good food! Unfortunately you won't take my advice and that makes me sad. :(

A bunch of my girlfriends and I descended on this location in West Loop. Wow. Just wow. It's classy counter service. I had the carne asada cemita and I'll be dreaming about that for a week. Another one of my friends raved about whatever taco she consumed. Which I should know what she ordered considering she talked about it for 20 minutes! (It was the taco arabe) And they serve beer! My only teeny tiny complaint was I wish the sangria was NOT non alcoholic. We were celebrating and a tasty sangria would have been delightful. Alas. Everyone who worked there was friendly, and they were prompt about tidying the tables. I wish one of these would open in Lincoln Park. I'd be there daily.

We love Cemitas Puebla in Humboldt Park. We have been there for years. We always wish that it moves or opens somewhere closer to the city to get all the reputations it truly deserves. We were so happy when we learn that they now have a location in West Loop! Sandwiches are not bad but they are not as good as the one in Humboldt Park. we were debating whether it's still the same owner, or licensed out franchise or what... i was a little disappointed with the food. The place is nice, clean and all. The staff was friendly.. but if i ever crave for mexican sandwich again, i'll head to the original location in humboldt park

I placed a large carry out order for my staff on Mother's Day weekend. I thought they would need a lot of notice to execute the order, they didn't. They assured me the order would be ready before I requested the pick up time. I was warmly greeted with smiles and a gracious attitude. The food was amazing, we ordered an assortment of Cemitas, Chips & Guac. The flavors were great, the bread was soft, yet just enough chewiness and texture. The Guac was fantastic, the avocados were ripe, and seasoned perfectly, chips were fresh and crispy! Nice job Cemitas Puebla, we will be ordering regularly.

I only had one taco arabe, but it was really, really good. Tender meat cooked with onions that did not need any additional sauce. I'd love to try some of their other stuff, too.

Overall: I've been to Cemitas Puebla twice now, and I see no reason to go back anytime soon. Big Star, Xoco, Antique Taco, DeCero and a variety of other places have similar prices and much more tasty food. Some of what I ordered from Cemitas (the chorizo and carne asada tacos) wasn't bad, but nothing was great. Here are some of the things that really stood out to me. Good: +Clean and pleasant interior +Friendly and helpful staff Bad: -Multiple items in our carryout bag were leaking oil all over. I am very grateful that none of the oil got onto my girlfriend's leather purse. Please see photo 1. -The chips that came with our very average and slightly too salty guac were so greasy that we started eating Trader Joe's restaurant style tortilla chips from our pantry. Not only were Cemitas chips inedibly greasy, but they were also very salty. Please see photos 2 and 3 to see the chips and the bag they came in. Hopefully my chips picture backs up my description. -Bland chicken tacos. The first time I went to Cemitas I ordered a chicken cemita, and the second time a chicken taco. Both times the chicken has been incredibly bland. -The meat in my taco arabe was very fatty.

We're in town from LA (the land of Mexican food), and Cemita's Puebla puts all of our restaurants to shame! Cute spot, friendly and helpful service, and DELICIOUS food! My husband went for the Atomica and I had the Milanesa. Both were filled with amazing cheese an flavorful meat. We've been eating all over town and both agreed that this was the best food we've had. Wish there was one in LA!

It took me way too long to get my butt here. Better late than never though, right? This location is more convenient (and safer maybe?) than their original shop in Humboldt Park. The space is modern, clean, well-lit, and spacious. Free street parking. Little touches such as cloth napkins give this place a slightly more upscale vibe. Some people might prefer the 'mom and pop'/'hole in the wall' feel of the original so to each his own. Similar to the first location, you order at the counter and your food is brought to you when it's ready. The most important question to address: how is the food?! I loved it here just as much as the original spot! The cemita atomica and taco arabe were exceptional and still my favorites. These are always a must for me. Another must is going to town with their three delicious salsas. I am head over heels in love with the green salsa and the smokey one in the yellow bottle (there's fermented pineapple in there!). They bake their own cemita bread rolls now which is fantastic. The diameter of the bread might be slightly smaller than when they had their bread baked at a separate bakery, but I can live with that. The only quibble my friends voiced is that the prices for the same items at this West Loop spot are about $1.00-$1.50 more. I guess you're paying for location and atmosphere? O well. I figure that extra money would be spent on gas to travel the extra distance to the Humboldt Park restaurant. I say visit whichever location is more convenient for you because if I closed my eyes and tasted the food, I wouldn't be able to tell them apart. I'm so excited to have easier access to some of my very favorite sandwiches and tacos in Chicago. Highly recommend!

I may no longer be Elite (why!?) but you should still pay attention to this review, because I rarely give out five-bangers and this place earns it. The Milanesa cemita is the best one on the menu; simple but delicious and really packed with flavor. You get the pork flavor, the breading flavor, the bun, the everything. The tacos are all pretty good, but many of the steak options sort of flow together, so I'd stick with pork. Those three sauces you get at the table? Mix 'em. Trust me on this, mix two or all three and dip away. But don't do your food a disservice - at least eat a bite or two without sauces first! There's tons of flavor to be had in there! They should move the Coca Cola army man sign upstairs. Hiding it by the bathrooms just ain't cool!

I really wanted to like this place given my love for sandwiches and "local" ingredients/flavors. I may return to give Cemitas Puebla a second chance; however, my first visit did nothing to impress me. A $7.95 sandwich...? Ok, I guess I will pay that. But $2.95 for a taco seem about $.95 too much although there was a decent amount of meat (chicken in this case) per taco. And $7 for chips and guacamole?!?! Are you kidding me!?!?! For $7, there better be enough guacamole for a large family or to feed a single person for an entire day! Unfortunately, it was your standard bowl of guacamole (maybe one whole avocado). I was really looking for a lot of flavors in the Al Pastor (Spicy Pork and Onions), but I actually thought the sandwich was rather bland in which I had to put a lot of the different sauces on it.

Got the arabe and it was awesome. Great flavor and nice portion. The guac was good too--maybe a bit steep at $7 but came with plenty of chips ( fried and greasy--but that's the way it's supposed to be!). The only question is which takes the top prize--cemitas here or tortas at frontera...

Let me preface this by saying that i like Cemitas ... just not this location. First off i want to say the place is much cuter and nicer than the original and closer to my house.. BONUS! Also, the owner's son was there the day I came in and he was suuuuuper nice and friendly. Now for the food. a) they are really skimping on the filling here. Now I'm a big carb girl and i LOVE bread. I usually prefer a higher bread / tortilla / insert carb here : filling ratio, however here if I'm having such a big piece of bread i expect more meat! Specially for the inflated price I'm paying. b) Somethings missing from these cemitas. They're lacking that good ol' grease and hearty taste. My cemita was super dry!! :( It def needed sauce to make it edible. Its like eating a peanut butter and jelly sammich w out the jelly. I'll chalk this up to them having new grills? It needs that good buildup. c) The prices. I get it your in the West Loop but at the end of the day this is still a torta so $8 for a cemita seems too much. Bottom line: Until the grease builds up I'll get my torta fix in Pilsen or I'll make the commitment and trek it over to Humboldt Park for the OG Cemas at a cheaper price.

The carne asada cemita is wonderful as is the taco araba. Most of the cemitas are fabulous and you can't go wrong with any of them. Even the bun is good along with the queso in the sandwiches.

Bottom line: very disappointed. Culver's like concrete horchata, tiny, not very good tacos, but good salsas. I've been to Mexican places a plenty usually seeking them out at least twice a week to grab some tacos. I was excited to try Cemitas Puebla because I saw the positive reviews on yelp and was dropping someone off in the neighborhood. First experience walking in: clean, nice, great design...but lurking behind that type of design something was hidden... I ordered three tacos (will get there in a moment) and a $3 horchata. This horchata was served in a 16 oz cup, filled to the top with ice, the kind that turns out to be 6 oz of horchata when you take the ice out. I get it, take a sip, it was like drinking coffee creamer, seriously. Very thick, not very horchata at all. Got home with the tacos and started one by one. Tacos Orientals: fatty pork. Carne Asada: dry meat. Tacos Al Pastor: Mediocre. What I don't mention is just how small these tacos are - I probably could have finished off five, easily. What was good? I actually enjoyed the salsa on the two bites per taco I was able to put it on. Maybe their Cemitas sandwiches are off the chart and that's why the reviews are so high, or, the Fulton Market area isn't exposed to authentic Mexican so this place is rated higher than it should if located elsewhere in the city.

Very good Cemita's. I would recommend the Arabe or the Carne Asaada. The Atomica is too much meat.

Came here with my parents who were visiting from out of town. We all got the cemitas and were all rather pleased! The chicken cemita was moist and the bread was so awesome - crispy outside, soft center. The real fun are the sauces they bring out for your meal! Cute atmosphere too! Next time I'll try the tacos!

I had the cemita al pastor and my friend had the carne asada. I'm not sure where to start-- the cheese patty that looked like my sandwich had a head of hair or the salsas that should be approached with caution? Salsa is key when your al pastor is dry. I tried all three and ended up using none on the sandwich. One wanted to be an avocado based green salsa but didn't make it there. Another wanted to be a bbq sauce with extra smokiness. The last was spicy but that was about it in terms of its appeal. Then, the Oaxaca cheese. It was just a cold, large, stringy hunk of cheese. This is the first time I've seen my friend take cheese off of anything. While the atmosphere and the staff were pleasant, it was just a huge disappointment.

Just went here to see how it compared to the one on North ave. Not the same. The pork Arabe was so tough, chewy and full of gristle.Tacos ? Very small. The space was very clean, new and nice. Its clearly made for the crowd this area attracts.Me,I would rather go to the North ave location..It just feels right. Not this place.

My only advice: Go NOW. In a month, you won't be able to get into the door of this place. My buddy and I have been regulars at the Humboldt Park location for several years. Milanesa is my go to, but I've had everything on the menu, it's all FANTASTIC. See you in line.

Thank God Cemitas opened a West Loop location. For those of us that don't drive, this is a MUCH easier location to visit. It's very close to the Morgan station on the Pink Line for anyone wondering. The interior is clean with comfortable seating. The staff was friendly and they seemed to go out of their way to assist customers who were new to the menu. As a veteran, I already have a standard order. Cemita Atomica - Pork on top of pork on top of pork with cheese on a delicious torta bread. Probably a sandwich to avoid for those of you keeping Kosher, but I'm not a member of that tribe, so it's a must-have for me. Tacos Arabes - Derived from what would appear to be the Lebanese influence in Mexico, the spit roasted pork and onions in these tacos are smothered in a delicious smokey chipotle sauce. It's addictive. Beverages - The horchata was good. Not the very best horchata I've had, but it was good. Same goes for the jamaica, as it was also good. But I didn't come here for beverages, so it's not a big deal if they weren't on the same level as the food. Cemitas might induce a food coma if you eat it while hung over, so make sure a couch is nearby. You've been warned. No problems to report while eating it sober though. Definitely worth checking out.

Genuinely badass food. Made me happy. Must eat whole menu. Tonight was a good start... Cemitas Milanesa Cemitas Carne Asada Taco Arabe x 2 Taco Al Pastor Chips and Guac Squeeze that lime on everything

  • K R.

So good! Ordered take-out and they still have me like 3 salsas. Lots of meat and flavor. Didn't give 5 stars based on my personal preference- didn't like the dining area chairs and set up. Would absolutely recommend.

    (4)
  • Amy G.

Meh-underwhelmed and overpriced. Have had better tacos in my day.

  • Becca M.

I have been here twice and it is very good food. Their tacos are great, the spit roasted Al Pastor is very good. My recommendation to anyone going for the first time would be the Chalupas. They are delicious, just be careful when ordering take out with those because the tortilla is covered in salsa and while still delicious they fall apart. My only gripe would be that unlike the original in the North avenue, they didn't give me that delicious black hot sauce.

    (5)
  • Corey N.

The sammiches (cemitas) are super yummy and served with three salsas -- the green is relatively mild, but made with avocado and is super flavorful. So why the missing star? The restaurant skimps on the meat. For $8.50 (carne asada) you'd expect the meat to cover the delicious bun, but alas, that wasn't the case in either of my two visits. Still very good, but it feels like they are being chintzy.

  • Jeffrey Z.

It's hard to say enough about how good this food is. I've been meaning to try the other location for years but am never in the area. I've now been to this location 3 times, and it definitely lived up to expectations. My favorite thing I've had is the chicken cemita. Could there be a better combination of flavors?? Oh, and the bread is remarkable it makes the sandwich. I love their hot sauces as well, especially the green one. Can't wait for my next visit.

The Carne Asada Cemita Was Very Tasty!! Could Have More Steak Portions Though!!! The Salsas Were Very Good!

  • Vanessa K.

I'm a little picky about my Mexican eateries, but this place is fantastic. The horchata is good, the ambiance is very hip and sleek, and the sandwiches (cemitas) are DELICIOUS and well-sized. I got the carne asada, and unlike much of the carne asada I've had in this city, it was GREAT. The sandwich was no-frills--avocado, cheese, and meat, just how I like it. I know the pork-based cemitas tend to be their more popular ones, but I was quite pleased. The clientele is easy on the eyes as well, which is a nice plus. The best part? Hop over to Glazed & Infused for dessert. Yummm.

Super simple design that makes you feel part of the experience. The kitchen is bright, open, and very clean. Both times I've been, the food was delicious and consistent. I'm excited to try more protein options. Thanks!

Love Cemitas Puebla! My husband and I got an A La Card pack and Cemitas Puebla was 1 of the places we decided to give a try. We were more than happy with our choice. The sandwiches looked, smelled and tastes amazing! I particularly liked the Arabe and my husband loved the Al Pastor. I also had a cinnamon chocolate sugar cookie that was delightful. The atmosphere was nice and service was great. We will definitely be coming back for more.

  • John J.

Very disappointed in all the changes here. The menu is completely different and they got rid of their best item - the burrito. How are you going to have a Mexican restaurant and not offer burritos? In short, I will not be making a trip back in quite a long time. I also will not be an advocate any longer for cemitas. There is a ton of good Mexican places in the city. The one USED to be the best. I am no believe that.

  • Adam S.

I've been a regular at the Humboldt Park location since first hearing about it 3 years ago, and an Atomica cemita + 2 tacos arabes is my choice for my last meal, assuming I still have teeth by then. That said, my 3-star rating for this location is purely due to price. They've increased prices on cemitas 20% here, which is a bummer. I expected a Randolph Row/Fulton Market premium, but not a 20% premium. Even worse, tacos arabes are $2.75 in Humboldt, and $3.95 here. Guac is $4something there, and $7 here. Now we're talking 40% increases. Don't be scared of the Humboldt location and re-invest your savings in more yummy torta goodness. That's what I'm going to do.

  • Mike O.

This location by my house just opened so I had to try it out. Al pastor cemita was delicious and good size for the price. Also went with carne asada chalupas. It seemed just like tacos but good nonetheless. Cant wait to go back when the paploa is in season

    (5)
  • Brandon G.

I was satisfied with this place. The idea of a cemita never appealed much to me which is why I went with the tacos. The al pastor tacos were very good. This location was clean and nice inside. Definitely a solid place and I'm looking forward to trying the cemita next time I go.

  • Jon F.

Awesome place. Great food and the staff is always very nice. I have gotten delivery here a couple times also, it's fast and they don't screw you on delivery fees like most places in Chicago

  • Nikki L.

This place is a bit over rated. The sandwiches are good but nothing really great. I went twice for lunch and both times my Carne asada was like warm. I'm not a huge fan of the cold shredded cheese, I wish it was hot and oozy. The customer service is good and will probably be the only reason I come back if I'm in the area. They are new in the area and worth a try, I think I might give their Humboldt Park location a shot, I always feel like the original are usually the best anyways. Wishing you guys much success!

  • M P.

Incredible, simply outstanding. I have been to the original location in the past which is of comparable quality, but the experience here was considerably better. The food was of the same wonderful quality (you cannot go wrong, everything on the menu is sensational), but the restaurant is impeccably clean and the staff personable, attentive and helpful. Additionally, they seem to have an additional sauce (bbq type) that isn't at the original - it's through the roof. A great bang for your buck as one sandwich can definitely fill you up.

    (5)
  • Justin L.

Make the trek out to the original, you won't be disappointed. The new version was a big let down. The horchata was very watered down, the cemitas were not hot at all, and it appears prices have gone up across the board to pay for the new property. Still a good spot to grab a bite if you are around but nothing like the original in my opinion.

    (3)
  • Ryan L.

The staff at the new location was very accommodating, but I heard both locations are under new management from an employee at the North Ave location. The food quality has suffered, I will no longer go out of my way for a Cemita. If you've never been try it because the recipes and combinations are unique. If you've already been and have a go to menu item, you'll probably be disappointed.

Fricking Awesome! Said Napolean Dynamite if he had visited Cemitas Puebla in an alternative universe. Just go with it people. A great addition to the West Loop dining scene. Get anything on the menu. Seriously, its all good. And perfect for cold weather season.

    (5)
  • Daniel H.

A welcome addition to the West Loop. It's nice to have a more affordable lunch/dinner option around the neighborhood for locals. Let's face it: not everyone wants to spend $13 on a sandwich for lunch, or blow $50 on dinner/drinks (and wait on line) at Little Goat every day.

  • L R.

I was so excited that Cemitas Puebla opened a location so close to where I love. After I ordered my first Al Pastor Cemita, I quickly noticed that these are MUCH smaller than the sandwiches served at the original location, as well as less meat in the sandwich. Additionally, the bread just isn't as good. I will say that the quality of meats and cheese was true to par of the original Cemitas Puebla. Overall, this location may work in a pinch, but I will definitely make the drive to the original Cemitas on North ave from now on.

Food was good but let me share my experience with management. They hired me for one day and fired me for no reason. She literally said "no reason" when I asked. I was told to come in the next day in person but called right after I left. That was unprofessional. I was a little slow catching onto the register but that was my only holdup honestly. The training was unorganized given to two girls who didn't collobrate so I was shown different things they were all over the place. Then they scolded me for not knowing when I was never shown in the first place. Thanks for wasting my time Cemitas Puebla. Thanks for helping out a future nurse who needed a job. Probably because manager was too busy talking about her boyfriend and "moving upstairs" to train me properly. Food was overpriced anyways. Almost ten dollars for basically a more radical torta. I'd rather go to Pilsen or by Brighton Park where I grew up, the food is more authentico anways and theres tamales around. Bad vibes is the reason for my rating.

  • Roger M.

Good, not outstanding. Two Taco Orientales (quite small; more like a snack size), a Cemita Orientales and chips and guacamole to go with an horchata and Mexican coke; a bit pricey ($30 for a $20 meal in Little Village) and I'll spare you what's been said already about those. The prep and cook line must have been working too long; had onion skins in one of my Taco Orientales. Yes, the papery kind that your body refuses to digest and ejects it though the trash chute. Guacamole tasted like moldy citrus. Brought those two back up front and the manager said, holding the taco in front of me, "you don't like onions?" very passive/snarky as if he were actually saying, "the menu says spit roasted pork AND onions, idiot!" "No I do; just not the dang papery skins." I replied. Then I was told by him (in the same manner mind you) that they make their guac fresh and their limes are delivered everyday. Excuses instead of "so sorry about that! Allow me to take that off your bill" or as other places that know what great customer service is would say, "No charge for the meal". I ain't no primo but if I were managing the place I would do whatever it takes to get a failed customer back.

Alll the sandwiches we ordered were better than all the tacos we orders. Any sandwich with pork is probably a good decision.

5 stars for the great bright minimalist space and service. The ordering process is simple. You walk up straight the to counter, order, grab your drink and take a seat in one of the communal tables. A server then will bring out your order, sauces and silverware/napkins. The sever will walk around to ensure you don't need anything extra. When you're done, the server will also comeback and take your tray. I recommend adding a tip to your order at the counter when paying for your order to avoid any potential awkward "do I tip, how do I tip?" moment at the end of your meal. I tipped in advance. 3 stars for the food. The al pastor cemitas is a well constructed "torta" with high quality ingredients. The unique bun, stringy cheese, pork, and sauces are all well made and satisfying. However, I was underwhelmed with the overall taste of the torta. The al pastor was under seasoned in my opinion, and could have been warmer (and yes I did eat in). A warmer bun or al pastor would have helped melt the cheese. I still enjoyed the unmelted cheese, but I imagine slight warmer melted cheese would have been better (or maybe not). Pork "Al pastor" is typically a spicy/sweet bold flavor, yet this version (at least mine) was far from it. I tried layering in the three hot sauces to add additional flavor but that did not help much, it was still somewhat bland. The best sauce was probably the spicy/sweet one in the yellow bottle ( I believe it was a chipotle based sauce) as that one did pop the most, and didn't get lost like the others within the torta. Overall, I wouldn't discourage anyone to try it. I'd be willing to go back and try a different cemita, maybe I just ordered the wrong one and the al pastor is not one of their better choices? They have several cemitas and tacos to choose from. None of the items come with a side, but you'll feel just right with a cemita (or 3-4 tacos I'd guess based on their size). You'll leave not stuffed, not hungry, but satisfied. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food you get. *For the record I've not been to their original location so I have no idea how well this location's food compares to the original.

Let me start off by saying, OVERPRICED !!! That's exactly what came to mind when I visited Cemitas Puebla in West Loop. I purchased a carne asada cemita for close to $10!!! Even more discouraging was that it lacked flavor and the meat was over cooked... Almost forgot to mention how tiny this cemita was in comparison to its other location. Sorry guys but the hassle of looking for parking and over priced food is not worth me coming back.

true to the original, this incarnation of cemitas puebla makes some kick ass cemitas. the carne enchilada is particularly exellent and the vegetarian was a very pleasant surprise. atmosphere is great, fits right in with the neighborhood, and the people behind the counter were great.

  • Tom R.

The sandwiches they make are unique and super tasty. The music and the ambiance is fantastic. The chips are crunchy and airy and the salsa is fresh. I love all the sauces they give you including the chipotle sauce and a green sauce that's like avocadoy but idk what it really is. Bottom line=tasty. Chipotle is like the same price and not as good so come here for change. Also the chairs are comfortable. And the lighting is bright and white and nice. Also the bathroom was clean and cool looking. Umm. Yea. Good place.

Same great cemitas as Humboldt Park location, just a lot closer if you live near the West Loop. I always get the carne asada cemita, but the chalupas and tacos are also good. Really happy to have them in the neighborhood.

A frequent visitor to the original location, I was so disappointed to hear that it had closed. Visited their new spot today and while the decor and people have changed, the quality of food has not. They have a nice little patio area for small groups to sit outdoors and the menu is basically the same as the last location just in a different style. The Atomica is as good and HUGE as ever, my only complaint albeit slight, was the amount of queso fresco added to the cemita. I suppose it was supposed to melt a bit more, but I ended up with a giant chunk on top. If you never got a chance to visit the original one, it is definatly worth checking this one out!

A friend of mine and I were doing some work in my house (yes! nice friend!) and we needed some decent grub to keep us energized. I had gotten a DoorDash delivery coupon in the mail, and DoorDash also had a special on a couple menu items. I hadn't known anything about this place, but it sounded interesting. We got one of the specials (Pollo Cemita--AKA chicken for you gringos, and only $2 rather than the regular $8--deal!), another cemita (Al Pastor--yummily-prepared pork, gringos) and guacamole & chips (um, avocado... never mind). (The ordering and delivery experience was excellent, but that would be another story: goo.gl/LE02hN .) Wow, we were very pleased. The bread was tasty & sturdy, without having gotten soggy in transit, and the meat and accompanying sauces were savory and, dare I say, succulent? We added grilled onions to the Al Pastor, and they made it that much better. I'm a guacamole snob--I make it as well as anyone (yeah, I said it, bee-atch!)--and theirs was excellent. The homemade chips were excellent, if slightly greasy (though probably made more noticeable by the wrapping). Voy a visitar en persona pronto. ("I plan to visit in person soon," if my gringo Spanish is correct. To channel Anthony Bourdain, "I don't know Spanish. I just know a little Mexican.")

I have been to both of their locations and I have to say WOW! they are both equally as delicious!! I dont remember if the other has alcohol but this locations drink selections were on point! The chalupas were a pleasant surprise as I was expecting some drive thru concoction lol but instead I got lightly toasted tortillas with onions and cheese ( I also got meat for an extra charge) and their delicious sauces..it was a great appetizer! I am partial to their taco arabe...my bf always gets the cemita which I was lucky enough to try. point is, eat here! its really delicious...prepare to be stuffed and definitely try the sauces.

I will start off saying that I ordered for my first time from Cemitas Puebla last Friday, it was AMAZING minus a discrepancy with the order- I called and mentioned it to the manager (Lee) and received ABOVE and beyond management experience! It is refreshing, as a customer to be heard, and compensation is a definite plus as well. Today I called to order lunch for the office, and spoke with Lee- he took very good care of us, and the food was definitely above par from the regular Mexican cuisine we're use to ordering. We had the Carne Asada Cemita, Atomica Cemita, Pollo Cemita, rice and guac/chips. Myself and the entire office were extremely satisfied with everything, and can't wait to order from Cemitas Pueblas again!

Stopped in with a visiting friend after I saw a bunch of posts from local food bloggers. Sometimes, you can trust the Instagram. Cemitas Puebla is terrific. The portions are large, affordable and varied. Service lacked because the order-taker didn't seem too knowledgeable about the various options, but the food came up quickly once we got to our seat. I had the very mild but tasty cemita abela, and it was great to try the various hot sauces available at the table. My friend went for a hotter option, and my quick sample of it was positive. No, that's not cabbage piled on -- it's cheese! This place is casual and definitely off the beaten path, but it's worth a diversion if you are out exploring or are cool enough to live in the growing nearby neighborhood. This is definitely a place I will bring friends to again!

It's actually 3.5 stars. I can't quiet give it 4 stars because this is very similar to XOCO, which I like much better and would choose over any day. Cemitas Puebla is a great spot if you want to avoid lines and crowded areas, especially if you're in the area. My boyfriend and I stopped by here Sunday evening and it was empty. We ordered and shared the Milanese and al pastor sandwiches. Both were good. I chose to eat the sandwiches open faced because it was a bit too much bread for my liking. The milanese is fried breaded pork loin, a bit dry and very flat. Both sandwiches come with avocado spread, definitely not enough avocado to taste. The al pastor sandwich was supposed to be spicy but it was manageable. At the table there are 3 sauces to add to your sandwiches in varying degree of spiciness. Alcohol is available. Bottom line, I will come back for a quick bite but considering this place is seated right next to Publican Quality Meats, only if PQM is packed and I am REALLY craving Mexican food. If you're in the area check it out.

Put some more meat-ah on my cemitas. Well, I didn't really need more meat but it just rolls of the tongue. Another great addition to the Fulton Market hood. They fit in well with their surroundings and fill the gap with their Poblano foods. I was on a mission to get a cemitas and I got my fill. At about 8 bucks for this creation and its worth it. No inflated West Loop prices to my surprise. The al pastor with onions, oaxaca cheese, and the fresh baked bread hit the spot. We ordered a couple tacos along with chips and salsa. The tacos weren't anything to write home about but simple and authentic. The chips were fresh and the salsa was prepared fresca style. Three bottles of sauce accompany your meal. Not labeled but the chipotle and verde were my favorite. I will visit again for the atomica, quesadillas, and the horchata. The interior is simple yet unique and they have a few picnic tables on the sidewalk along with a standing bar area. Fulton Market is worth the trip alone and is this is a good place to kick it off.

$3.95 for a plate of chips and guac that is 10x better and 2x bigger than chipotle! good mexican food, order at the counter, and clean interior design. friendly staff, good prices! taco arabe on point! i will definitely be back :)

If Xzibit made Mexican sandwiches they'd be like the ones from Cemitas Puebla. They're pimped out tortas that start with seasoned meats and melted cheese. Layered with avocado and chipotle sauce then topped with an awesome sesame seed bun which is what really separates them from other sandos of a same family. The carne asada or atomica are solid bets that will fill your belly without emptying your wallet to the extent that XOCO would. Served with several sauce options on the side it's a pretty spectacular experience for your taste buds if you like awesome bread with your Mexican food. Super nice staff and an owner that's really hands on always shaking hands and kissing babies. Really happy these guys came down to this hood.

Oh my! These cemitas (sandwiches) are absolutely delectable. My husband had Jamon and I had the Veggie...both served on a delicious sesame bread, piled high with chihuahua cheese. The flavor was outstanding. The only con: we split a cured steak taco and it was flavorless. Don't go here for the tacos. Get a sandwich and enjoy their three yummy hot sauces!

NEW COOL HIP CEMITAS I still remember my first visit to the original Cemitas location about 3 years ago. It was a long roundtrip drive but worth every minute of it. I found Cemitas because of Guy F from Triple D and thought I need to eat there. After my first visit, I was not let down. Thanks Food Network for introducing me to a Chicago original. I am a lifelong fan of this place. Fast forward to this week, when my buddy wanted to grab lunch in the neighborhood. Our dilemma was where do we eat considering we have probably eaten everywhere in our hood. I suggested Cemitas and he jumped at the opportunity. This location is much different visually then the original location but what hasn't changed is how delicious the food is. It is amazing for me to see Cemitas grow up and become hip and cool. The interior is very modern and clean. I love the large community tables. It always reminds me of eating in Europe. But don't be afraid there are small tables too if you want to eat alone. I love all of the glass which brings in a lot of natural light. The front interior can be opened on nice days. I hear there will be tables outside next summer. This modern design fits perfectly into the Fulton Market area. We ordered our food and grabbed a table. I noticed that they now serve beer which is something the old location never had. I will have to come back another day and try a cemitas with a ice cold cerveza. Hey don't judge me for not drinking at 1pm in the middle of the week. I ordered an Arabe Cemitas which is basically pork and onions but this meat is special because it is roasted on a spit-fire. As a guy, I just love meats that are cooked on a spit fire. I wish I had one of these at home. When is my local Best Buy going to start selling these? This delicious roasted pork and onions is then added to hand shredded oaxaca string cheese and served on their perfectly toasted sesame seed bread. It is a fantastic sandwich. I also love their fresh made salsas. They offer three different ones to choose from but I love the green avocado/jalapeño salsa. It adds just the right amount of kick without over powering all the flavors. After my first bite I realize I'm in trouble because this place is now within walking distance from my house. All I can say what took you so long to get here? And welcome to the neighborhood because you fit in quite nicely. My buddy got the chicken cemitas and loved it. I had no idea that this was his first one ever. I would have thrown some confetti in the air. From his reaction I know that it won't be his last. We also shared a steak quesadilla with cheese and it was really good. The steak was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Prior to us leaving we also had a chance to talk to the owner Tony. I love how he made me feel like an old family member. The food business should be personal where an owner should know their regular customers. It may seem old school but I think that's the best way of building a loyal customer base. It also doesn't hurt that his food is unique and really good. So if you've never had a cemitas then maybe today is the day. It is a perfect step away from the typical sandwiches you are use to. I guarantee you will enjoy the flavor combinations as you take your first bite. I'll even come by and through confetti on you if you want.

Love the cemitas, love the three sauces... BUT there was way too much cheese on my sandwich. Not to mention, later after eating my milanesa cemita I had extraordinary food poisoning. I will not be returning.

The space is very clean and well lit. I like that! There were several of us, so we ordered a few different things and shared. The Cemitas Atomica has like a million different types of pork in it, so expect a very meaty torta. This is not your mama's torta, these are HUGE with a lot of meat and cheese. I think I might have been expecting something else, but I think I'd rather go to Xoco to get my torta fix than here. It was still nice to finally try the Cemitas Atomica. Quite a unique experience!

Cemitas Puebla has been on my list for quite some time...and boy did it live up to what I had hoped it would! I had the pleasure of dining here last week with my WL crew (whoop whoop) and its safe to say we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The restaurant it's very casual, where as you order at a counter, sit down, and you will be brought your meal. The decor is quite sterile, but not in an annoying way, in a modern chicy way, all complete with a skull cluster. Mad fun! So on to the food and drank. First, the margs are delicious! You can tell they are homemade and not some mixture crap from a bottle. For eats we ordered chips and guac, a chicharon quesadilla the 3 cemitas: Milanesa, arabe, and the al pastor. The guac was freshy fresh and the dilla was banging - the perfect mix of gooey cheese and crisp pork rinds. The cemitas were all quite tasty as well. I would say the arabe and the al pastor tasted similar, but very delicious. The Milanesa was good, although I felt it was lacking in flavor compared to the others. Have no fear - this was quickly remedied by adding one (or all) of the three sauces on the table. One mild, one hot, one chipotle....all so yummy! The only reason this review isn't getting a perfect rating is because of the price. For one round of drinks+food+tip we were looking at about $75. Make no mistake, the food was amazing but that's just a little steep when ordering at a counter. Regardless of the price, I will absolutely be back to try their tacos. Cemitas is a beautiful gem in the Fulton River district. :)

Boo and I got delivery via Postmates, because the on-demand deal was $4 for a cemita! Delivery took a bit but there is no one to blame, besides mother nature. We get the pollo and the milanesa. Aside from the texture, I couldn't differentiate too much between the two in terms of flavor of the proteins. However, in itself, it was quite tasty. They did not skimp out on the avocado, which was a plus. Bread was surprisingly still toasty when we got it and fit well with the rest of the sandwich. My favorite part was the accompanied salsas. The tomatillo was very nice and tangy. The red one was on fire but had a nice bitter note to it. The orange one was also spicy but not as intense. Enjoyed my first cemitas experience and would like to dine in next time.

Food is awesome, SERVICE was horrible. The staff kept giving me other peoples orders and I had to tell them that they were doing so, finally after 25min of waiting for a single order (after seeing 10 customers who ordered AFTER me get served), I was 'taken care of'. When I get back to my office and open my bag up, guess what? The order was STILL wrong. Don't go here for lunch if you don't have atleast 30min to just stand around and/or don't want to leave with a headache from the 'service'. Personally, I do not think I will ever return. Shame.

Finally got to try this place out on my last visit to the city and was very pleased. As I've said in past reviews, I am hard on mexican places, but no need to be tough with this place. Good service, enticing menu, great food and amazing salsas! I tried the Cemita Atomica and Steak tacos, I was in love with both. The atomica comes with ham, enchilada carnitas and milanesa. The meat was so flavourful and the bread so flaky and fresh, not to mention the avocado and queso Chihuahua. I ate very slowly so it wouldn't end, but it had to eventually. : ( The steak taco was served traditionally with onion, cilantro and lime. Also, perfectly cooked, fresh and delicious. The three salsas they place on the table are Amazing and very close to authentic stuff my family would make, I couldn't tell which one I liked more! Try this place out! I'm excited to go back and try the other location!

The three salsas they place on the table are Amazing and very close to authentic stuff my family would make, I couldn't tell which one I liked more! Try this place out! I'm excited to go back and try the other location!

The food and ambiance were great. I had 2 tacos - the taco orientales and the taco arabe, both very delicious. I docked a star for the horchata, which was way too sweet, as the guacamole, which was just average.

  • Abishek M.

I only had one taco arabe, but it was really, really good. Tender meat cooked with onions that did not need any additional sauce. I'd love to try some of their other stuff, too.

  • Tim Y.

  • Keith L.

    (2)
  • Jeff H.

    (5)
  • Carmen G.

  • Yuki Y.

The carne asada cemita is wonderful as is the taco araba. Most of the cemitas are fabulous and you can't go wrong with any of them. Even the bun is good along with the queso in the sandwiches.

    (4)
  • Kia P.

Place is good for lunch. The Cermitas are huge the quesadilla not so much. Prices are a bit high for what you get but if you are in the area definitely try it.

    (3)
  • Liz P.

The milanesa cemita is arguably the best sandwich ever!

    (5)
  • Todd P.

They have many pork and beef options that are treated and seasoned in a variety of ways for the tacos and cemitas. I have had them all and all are capital. Fast and courteous service, minimal decor, quiet outdoor seating, and craft beer and liquor make this a must stop in the West Loop.

  • Brian F.

  • Laurice S.

Very good Cemita's. I would recommend the Arabe or the Carne Asaada. The Atomica is too much meat.

  • J W.

  • Nathan B.

My only advice: Go NOW. In a month, you won't be able to get into the door of this place. My buddy and I have been regulars at the Humboldt Park location for several years. Milanesa is my go to, but I've had everything on the menu, it's all FANTASTIC. See you in line.

    (5)
  • Robert G.

Not as good as the Humboldt Park original, but still awesome. So for those of you afraid to venture into ethnic enclaves in Chicago, you are only experiencing half of the awesomeness. This location has craft beer for sale and the horchata only comes in one size.

  • Lili V.

So good! Ordered take-out and they still have me like 3 salsas. Lots of meat and flavor. Didn't give 5 stars based on my personal preference- didn't like the dining area chairs and set up. Would absolutely recommend.

    (5)
  • Dee B.

It was pricey for the amount of meat that were in the tacos. I got it as take out and I wasn't impressed and I have had great tacos. The chips were the best part of my meal and the rice was really bland. It had no flavor and that's not okay for Mexican rice.

Yummm.

This location by my house just opened so I had to try it out. Al pastor cemita was delicious and good size for the price. Also went with carne asada chalupas. It seemed just like tacos but good nonetheless. Cant wait to go back when the paploa is in season

I was satisfied with this place. The idea of a cemita never appealed much to me which is why I went with the tacos. The al pastor tacos were very good. This location was clean and nice inside. Definitely a solid place and I'm looking forward to trying the cemita next time I go.

Awesome place. Great food and the staff is always very nice. I have gotten delivery here a couple times also, it's fast and they don't screw you on delivery fees like most places in Chicago

This place is awesome. The sauces are the most underrated thing, all excellent flavor and great spice! Make sure to get the chalupas too.

Loved the food! Tacos are incredible and the chicken cemita is a must order. The mild green salsa was amazing! I will definitely keep coming back

Great food, great service, affordable and the staff is incredibly nice. Especially JP, the guy at the register was so nice and helpful in assisting me with a vegetarian order.

This place is amazing. I made my way up to Humbolt Park after hearing about it and could not be happier to find out they have a location in my neighborhood. I am going to get fat.

The Atomica. That's it. The apex of human achievement in sandwich construction. There may be other sandwiches that are *as good* as the Atomica, but there are none *better*.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
