Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Best pizza in illinois hands down. As someone who visits New York regularly and who's parents are from Brooklyn and queens I can say this is the closest to authentic New York pizza that you will get. It's even better than most pizza places in New York!!! Must try
(5)Katherine R.
Solid place for a slice of pizza, they do a super nice job and it's quick and easy. Sometimes I feel like the pizza has been out for a while. But you cannot beat the price and it's a great quality slice of New York Pizza. Best I have found in the city.
(4)Ethan V.
It's a legit New York-vetted pizza place in Chitown, and hallelujah, it's pretty damn solid at executing on this concept! Price is a hair high, but I'll be damned if it's still not my number one thin-crust jam. Let's get something straight, "pizza" in Chicago generally denotes one of two things. 1. The first is a pie made of cheese and meat that aspires to unnecessary thickness to prove how hardcore and unf&%k-giving the eater is. 2. The second is an unnecessarily artsy take on what is supposed to be quick-n-cheap eats. Here the idea is a over the top take on a simplistic but DEEP concoction that aims to reinforce the eater's sense of cool due to the contrast between the typical pizza and the irony of needless complexity. Cafe Luigi just aims to give you the best possible slice of New York style pizza they can and make some money in the process, and damn do they deliver! The pizza sauce has that trademark sweetness to it, and the crust is cooked to perfection. Toppings ENHANCE the flavor of the sauce, rather than acting as distractions that turn the pizza into's some other damn thing (Looking at you Santullo's and Piece!). The price is a little high, but I'm sticking to my guns on this one; this place kills it at what it sets out to do; make pizza that tastes like the stuff you can pick up in midtown New York!

The pizza is great, but the delivery guy on Honda Civic is the worst person I've ever met in my life. He was very rood.
(3)Michael R.
Terrible service. I called ordered a pizza and they told me 32.00 then it gets here and it's 36.22. I ask him why and he is rude and mumbles something under his breath. That's fine they don't appreciate my purchase I won't be ordering from them ever again. And I don't recommend you do either!

After a solid week of New Year's resolution healthy eating, I was starving for some real food. Cafe Luigi caught my attention. We ordered a large thin crust pizza and a handful of garlic knots. The pizza was amazing. Amazing! Thin, but chewy crust, plenty of cheese and enough sauce to meld the pie into a work of art. The slices were huge, requiring appropriate NY-style folding. The garlic knots weren't all that big, nor were they all that garlicky. They were a nice side dish, but I don't know if I'd order them again. Garlic bread was a straight disaster. Dry chunks of bread with one slice of melted, but now-cold cheese on top. Tasted frozen. Avoid these. But that pizza definitely hit the spot. And as a bonus, it reheated to 95% of its original greatness. Leftover score! I'm a deep dish lover, but if I ever find myself craving thin crust again, this will be my first choice.

Being from New York I am very judge mental of places they claim have NYC style pizza. These guys have awesome pizza!! If you aren't used to this style you might be critical of this but NYC pizza is meant to be just like these guys make it. So happy I finally found my go to pizza place and so close to my apartment!
(5)Jessica G.
Ordered a pizza and a salad...half way into my first piece of pizza I found 2 hairs on it that definitely weren't mine. After a few bites of the salad, I found another hair in there...disgusted & definitely not ordering from here again.
(1)Alexandra D.
Really great pizza. Like a better quality version of Sbarro pizza, which for what it is, is quite good. My only suggestion would be to ask for extra sauce when ordering Bc they kind of skimp on that making for an undesirable ratio of cheese to sauce.
(4)Christian L.
Haaayyyy Gurrllll Haaayyy... New York style Pizza ya'll.. You've gained a fan. I'm a transplant from the grand ole' Big "Potato" as Rose Nylund would say and have ate at a few places that serve NY style Pizza and they are good, but so far, You're the best. I have nothing against Chicago style deep dish, but, I do try to watch my girlish figure and don't want to look like Al Roker at an all you can eat buffet, so I try to stay away from the Chicago "casserole". The only reason you dont get 5 stars is because, like most places I have ordered from in Chicago who serve non-deep dish is that you skimp on the Tomato sauce.. What is up with Chicago and skimpin not pimpin on the sauce.. Otherwise, yo pizza is fan-freakin-tabulous.
(4)Karina K.
Didn't live up to the hype. I was looking for a different kind of sit down experience, but someone said we had to go there for the pizza, and yelpers seemed to agree! It was a pay at the counter then sit down and eat tiny little place, with a very friendly man behind the counter. My son got pepperoni, It was a huge, greasy slice with thin crust. The man cut it up small too for my kid, which was nice. My husband and I split the meat stuffed pizza, with pepperoni, ham and sausage. It was pretty good, just really greasy, but I guess what do I expect once pepperoni was involved? But, nothing to write home about.
(3)Samuel C.
Best Pizza in Town! You have to love NY style pizza to agree, which I do. If you have read my other reviews, you may have guessed I am originally from NY. Their delivery guys are sketchy at times, but it's pizza.....what do you expect? Fugetabowdit!
(4)Katrina F.
Let us give half star reviews Yelp! 3.5 Cafe Luigi 18in 2 topping pizza and salad special plus a few garlic knots to make the $25 minimum for delivery, SOLD!! Fast delivery 5 stars Garlic knots, 2 stars. Knots not very garlicky. Mine seemed a little old and/ or over done. Slathered in tomato sauce and they were okay. The sauce is very basic red sauce. Salad, 3. 5stars. Very good sized salad of iceberg lettuce piled with sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, green olives, sliced jalapeños, red onion, strings of cheese and sprinkled with Italian seasoning. Salad was great. Packet of pre made ranch dressing for the salad, awful. Pizza 3 stars....If it weren't for the damn canned mushrooms on my sausage and mushroom pizza, I'd be in heaven. There were a TON of them. In this day and age, canned mushrooms shouldn't be used in any restaurant. The crust and cheese were great. I even like how crumbly the sausage is on the pizza but I can't get the canned mushroom flavor or thought out of my head or my mouth. Don't judge the Chicago girl for ordering a NY style pizza with sausage. I'd order this pizza any day over the major chains. Skip the knots, BYO salad dressing and say NO to the mushrooms on the pizza, then you may have a successful order.
(3)Andres G.
Well... the pizza was just OK. Other than the tough crust, it was a pretty standard pizza, nothing special. And as for NYC style pizza, Ive had pizza in Manhattan, Long Island and The Bronx during many many visits and this is nowhere close. If they improve the crust, I'd come back. Until then. . .
(3)Daniel S.
I had the thin sausage which was really good, and a stuffed sausage slice, also tried the garlic knots and pepperoni stick, reasonably priced and quick service, nearest pizza place near the landmark theater I think
(4)Lorelei C.
New York Style Pizza at it's finest! A huge slice of chewy, foldable goodness with the perfect amounts of cheese, meats and sauce. I should have quit while I was ahead.. Because I ordered Cafe Luigi's baked mostacciolli and I have to say it was not very tasty/good,and it was not covered in a meat sauce but in some very funky runny tomato sauce And.. my baked mostacciolli did not seem baked at all..:( So I was majorly disappointed! I also ordered their garlic knots which were just okay for the most part, they were very small and there seemed to be only a trace of garlic in them and they were accompanied by that tomato sauce that I pretty much hated! So.. I am giving Cafe Luigi 4 stars for the pizza and the great gal who was working behind the counter, she was really very nice! And.. even for the not quite there garlic knots cause they were warm, chewy and soft. But.. I would recommend staying away from the pasta dishes because of the funky tasting sauce.. That sauce pretty much ruined it for me.. So go for the pizza.. but not much else..
(4)Charlie C.
I love this place. The pizza is straight up thin crust NYC style gooey cheesy deliciousness. I will keep coming back, and now that I live across the city I make a note of getting a slice (or while pizza) while in the hood. Its tiny, but clean in their little shop. There are usually a few regulars and always a couple of very angry people working behind the counter. When you call to make a pizza delivery order they usually make you feel guilty for placing an order, but that is part of the experience for me. When you want NYC thin, this is your place.
(4)Iman W.
Is sausage supposed to be crunchy? Is pepperoni supposed to crumble apart? They say that you should fold NY style pizza, but the crust wasn't particularly flexible...I suspect the slices I was given had been there for a while. :-/ Three stars because aside from the crust o' stone, the cheese pizza slice had potential. I imagine it's quite good when it's out of the oven.
(3)H. O.
We've been back twice since the initial review. Great pizza -- crust, toppings and cheese. It was well cooked. Thanks goodness it has returned to the pizza we grew to love when we first moved here.
(4)Zach C.
Warning - they do not accept orders placed through this yelp online order. You may not find this out until an hour later.. can't say much for the food.. i was excited to eat it.. oh well
(3)A. K.
I've had thin crust pizza...this is by far the best! We had a plain cheese pizza and ommggg I'm just drooling thinking of it. It is cheesy, crispy, foldable and gooey...ugh...just eat a slice. You will be addicted. :) The lady behind the counter was super-nice and the inside was clean. It has a few tables and chairs to eat in...but it's generally a take out place.
(5)Mary M.
Best pizza in Chicago and no one will ever convince me otherwise! I've had people suggest other so-called New York-style pizzerias to me, but I always leave disappointed. Most seem to think that ny-style just means thin crust. But not Luigi's! Everything about the joint transports me back home immediately, right down the the mirror on the wall.
(5)Rick F.
I was very excited to try this place! NYC style pizza! I just ogt back from NYC and was craving more! While the pizza is really good! This did not remind of the NYC thin crust I had a John's! Pizzeria in NYC!
(2)Matt D.
Talk about simple, yet surprisingly mouth-watering flavors! Best Bread sticks (hand rolled w/ pepperoni and cheese inside) i've tasted in the city! Great BYOB place as well!
(5)G R.
What happened? Just not as good as it used to be. Just very greasy, maybe it had been sitting awhile. I don't eat pizza as much as I used to and was looking forward to it very much, only to be disappointed. Not on my destination list anymore, will go back if in the area though.
(3)Rob P.
My first time getting pizza at the new apartment, so I started with the place closest to me, with good reviews. That logic brought me to Cafe Luigi. Frankly, it's just not that good, and I feel betrayed by my fellow Yelpers :( It's bland, the crust is very chewy, and they use red onions as a topping. Who puts red onions on a pizza? Both the onion and the green peppers (hey, the right color vegetable!) were cut razor thin, which probably led to it being bland. They charge quite a bit for toppings for them to be cut so thin. I would only order from them again in a pinch. It's a one-star pizza, and I would probably take a frozen pizza with its science-lab ingredient list to another pizza from here. They get the second star only for being friendly to deal with and timely with my order during a Bears game. Although, the cynic in me is screaming that the timeliness has to do with the locals knowing to avoid the place...
(2)Sunney K.
Interestingly, I cannot tell you how the food is, because (a) the delivery time was nearly double what was promised, and (b) when the food finally "arrived" it was to the wrong location. Rather than offering a reasonable solution to an already paid customer, the delivery person and manager were offensive and careless. The "solution" was to cancel the order. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking to not eat, or simply increase your level of frustration generally.
(1)Andre W.
NY style pizza here served by real Italians...well they speak it well at least It was ok and they close at 11PM on most nights Nice if you live in the area
(3)Julie H.
Yum, yum, yum! I have been searching for authentic New York-style pizza for YEARS in Chicago. It is perfection.
(5)Adam K.
OHMYGOD! I hate hate hate their customer service, I got chewed out by the person answering phones tonight because she didn't understand me!! Delivered me the wrong order!! I love love love their pizza!! It's the best in Chicago! P.S. Cafe Luigi -- please, at a minimum, try to be a bit more courteous and lose the abrasive phone girl you have. In the meantime, I'll order your pizza from Grub Hub so you don't screw up my order again.
(4)Andoni D.
Ordered delivery, services was good but the pizza itself was incredibly greasy. The cheese was tough and tasteless, reminded me of High School cafeteria pizza
(2)Kris L.
Wow NEVER order delivery from this placed. Placed my pizza order on a busy Saturday night. For one cheese pizza they said it'd be an hour. An hour later, no pizza. An hour and a half later, no pizza. I called Luigis and they said the driver had left 20 min ago. Almost 2 hours later the driver shows up, no apology. When asked why the pizza was late he responded "Clearly we are busy tonight" Wow. Not apologetic, nothing. Then he then demanded proof of an online coupon that was accepted when I called in the order. Left in a hissy fit. Amazing how complicated this place makes ordering one cheese pizza!
(2)Ray D.
Great pizza! Huge slices! Decent delivery time. Crust needs to be a little more crispy but the thin crust is awesome!
(4)Kevin S.
This place is not bad but not good, actually there is nothing special about it. There sausage is actually ground beef. Disappointed by my meal here.
(3)Casey Z.
If you're going for New York style pizza, this is pretty darn good. I got the cheese Neapolitan pizza and it was great! Also, their Greek salad is really, really good...somewhat gourmet! The delivery was quick too (about an hour wait time from order to delivery in River North). I would definitely order from Luigi's again and recommend this place to my east coast Chicagoan friends.
(3)Heather S.
So the bad is that delivery is kind of a disaster (2.5 hours for 1 pizza... Got lost finding a major apartment complex near the Loop). The good news: totally worth it. They could have kept me waiting a few more hours and I would still be raving. It's just damn good pizza, made from scratch by someone who loves and knows what they are doing. Can't beat it. But seriously, grab a snack before you order...
(4)Kristy K.
Called at 9:40 and said I would like to place an order for delivery. The response on the other line yelled back "TOO LATE" and abruptly hung up the phone before I could get a word out. Honestly, my mouth was still open as I looked at my boyfriend bewildered by the rudeness I just experienced. Pretty disappointed with the customer service. Is this how they treat their regular customers? Looks like I will be trying some other NY style pizza restaurants from here on out. Ciao, Luigi!
(2)Joseph L.
I'm an east coaster so thank God for Cafe Luigi's. It's the best slice you can find in Chicago. To best replicate the NYC taste ask for your pizza "well done" or "crispy". They'll throw it back in the oven a few extra minutes. And don't be slighted if the two 'old guys' initially come across as rude. They are nothing but pizza angels. Pizza is their first language. If you go there as much as I do you'll see. I'm the guy eating the folded slice. If you have no idea what i'm talking about - good. All the more reason to believe me when I say this place is a hidden NYC pizza treasure. . .
(4)David P.
had the stuffed piza which is really good. i feel the thin slices are over priced. never tried them for that reason. speed is quick but the store is often empty.
(3)Bob H.
I have a lot of trouble giving a pizza joint a 4 star review. Because let's face it, they never have much in terms of service, and it's pizza, they don't have to work too hard to sell it. While this is true - this is the best thin crust New York style pizza in Chicago. I love Chicago dearly, but one of the few things I miss from the east coast is the pizza. Chicago pizza isn't bad, it's just not the same. And deep dish isn't pizza, it's deep dish. Two very different things. But rather than get on a rant of NY vs Chicago pizza I will just praise this pizza as the only thin crust pizza I would ever order if I was within delivery range. The outer crust actually pops up and gives you something to hold. Sauce isn't too bitter or too sweet, and the cheese is melted just perfectly, without any of that burning I see on a lot of Chicago thin crust. I've only ever eaten in - never delivery, so I can't speak to that. But if you get it hot, you can't beat it in this city.
(4)Ashley B.
Let me tell you a story about a very lazy night where my boyfriend and I were craving some pizza but didn't want to budge because the weather was terrible. Standard Chicago, I know. Anyway... off to GrubHub.com we go... Let me tell you what's NOT standard, the veggie stuffed pizza from Cafe Luigis. It was VERY awesome. One, there were so many freaking veggies on the pizza that it was amazing. The top layer was also bread, as in, it was a huge (yet surprisingly thin) pie. Like it should be. We also got some really good garlic bread and a nice mixed salad with a balsamic vinaigrette. Little did we know the pizzas would be monstrous and we could've probably just ordered by the slice. But hey, I'm totally okay with having leftovers for the next couple days! So why not 5 stars? One, I feel guilty giving a place 5 stars without actually setting foot in it. Two, I was reallllllyyy craving more sauce/cheese and wishing they would've put more on there, especially the next day when everything was a bit more dry. BUT, that being said, if you love pizza and want to try something new, I'd definitely say go for this place. It's worth i!
(4)Miley M.
TOTALLY your place if you love waiting more than 2 hours for cold pizza that is not good cold to be delivered. On a "not busy" Thursday night no less. Sucked.
(1)D. G.
Best NY style Pizza! It's so hard to find anything close to it in Chicago... but here it is. It's true that the customer service can be hit or miss, but this is one of those cases where it doesn't really matter, because the pizza is that rare of a find. They sell slices, but it's worth getting a whole one to put in the fridge. If your used to east coast pizza and frustrated by what you find here in Chicago... check it out.
(5)Edward E.
I was in here on May 24th. I had a slice of Pepperoni (thin) and an ice tea. My wife had a slice of Sausage. Pizza slice was Hot, crispy, and delicious. I loved the sauce, it was sweet and tomato-e. Pepperoni was crisp. Cheese was a good mix and was Top Shelf. I wish more places would have as good of quality product. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. We had some garlic bread braids and dipped them into sauce. So delicious and fresh baked taste. They deliver too, so I will try them next week for pizza night, sorry Lou Malnati's.
(5)Ellen D.
This pizza is awesome. True NY-style pizza... finally! I've been searching for a place like this in Chicago for so long. At long last, my thin-crust, giant pizza slice dreams have been realized. Oh, and it's super cheap too. My only complaint would be that the side options aren't particularly great... but when the pizza is this good, who really cares??
(4)Jim N.
I grew up on NY style pizza. Even though my kids were all born in Prentiss Women's Hospital on Superior street in CHICAGO....they also believe NY style is BEST. For the best of the best....unless it's in Brooklyn........Café Luigi is it. If you yearn for the real deal.....go to Café Luigi and don't waste your time with the Chicago pizza places. Deep Dish? fuggettaboutit.
(5)Jenn C.
Was craving a slice a pizza late at night while staying at the old Children's hospital. Walked here by chance and got a slice and boom.... satisfied. I got a thin slice and the bottom had a little crunch to it which was nice and the sauce and cheese was decent. I really wanted a NY style pizza, but being in Chicago, I've yet to find one anything close to the real thing! But this did the trick (for the time being).
(4)Brian B.
It's hard to mess up pizza. Got sausage delivered. A pro is quick delivery, the con is the pizza is tasteless. There's way better around the area
(2)Alexandria H.
I ordered a slice of veggie pizza that came out a little on the cold soggy side. I informed the young lady behind the counter. She said it was doggie because of the veggies. I didn't want to argue as to why pizza should not be soggy so instead I asked for a slice if cheese instead. Then a young man from behind a laptop chimed in to inform he had tried all the pizzas there and my pizza was in fact not soggy and he knew it wasn't because he had just taken that slice out of the fridge. I'm guessing it was yesterday's pizza. As the two of them were bickering over my request for non soggy pizza I decided to sacrifice my $4.50, leave the soggy pizza unconsumed and get some Toro sushi (which is best sushi place in the city and right next store)
(1)Jon D.
Where I grew up, in a historic and suburban town on Long Island, I used to be able stop by the pizzeria on the main street while walking home from school. It was called Gino's and for $1.25 you could get a slice that you instinctively picked up, folded, funneled the grease off on to the wax paper covered paper plate, and then eat too quickly. Sometimes it would scold the roof of your mouth, sometimes it would be just right. Luigi's pizza is that. It's childhood pizza done correctly. Thin, tasty crust which is the right combination of crisp when you first bite in to it, and the chewyness you DESERVE right after. In this context, crust is that ring of awesomeness on the outside, not the underbelly of the beast. TL;DR: You want real NY pizza, this is it.
(5)L A.
The people here are so nice. I came in for second time today, and they remembered me. The food, equally great. I am a HUGE fan of pineapple and Canadian bacon pizza, and I was impressed when I picked up my pizza and there was FRESH pineapple chunks (The canned pineapple gets soggy). I got the spaghetti today and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The sauce, rich, thick, and has tomato chucks--definitely not Prego-ish. It's quick and delicious!
(5)Megan N.
As many other reviewers have mentioned, the customer service at Cafe Luigi is beyond terrible (and absolutely unprofessional). Don't order from or eat here. After placing an order with a quoted wait time of 30-45 minutes, I called to check on the status after one hour had passed. Once I was actually able to speak to someone (it took over 10 minutes of calling to reach a live person), I was told that the actual deliver time would be 1.5 hours. Upset, I asked that they honor their original quote and deliver my pizza immediately. They agreed and said the pizza would arrive within 20 minutes. FOURTY FIVE MINUTES LATER, still no pizza. I was upset, called them back and demanded an answer for the pizza I had already paid them for. After getting nowhere, the person and I exchanged a few unkind words...after which I was hung up on. I called back, asked when my pizza would be delivered and was told, "why don't you ask your asshole when the pizza will be delivered." I was then hung up on again. The owners of this restaurant should be appalled that customers are consistently treated this way (just read through the reviews for proof). This behavior is completely unacceptable. Shame on you Cafe Luigi.
(1)Sabrina F.
My husband and I were in the mood for New York style pizza, so I decided to order from Cafe Luigi after reading the reviews. We were very pleased!!! The food was delivered earlier than we thought and the pizza was indeed as close to New York style as you can get. The crust was nice and thin, not greasy like other places. Also, they use REAL cheese and you can taste the difference. We were very happy that we ordered from a small business on "Small Business Saturday". This will be our go-to place! Definitely recommend them.
(5)Sneha P.
Had a slice of pizza (I think the supreme?) to go. Too salty, and the crust was blah. I wasn't impressed.
(2)Kaitlyn W.
What New York style pizza should be: huge, cheesy, greasy, and delicious. I've never done delivery, but the take-out by-the-slice is perfect for any pizza craving.
(4)Dick L.
I'm long overdue for a yelp review of cafe luigi. I live in the area and whenever I have a craving for pizza, this is the first and only place that comes to mind. They do a great thin crust (NY-style?) pizza here. Slices are big and the flavor & texture is superb. But if you want their pizza, do yourself a favor and eat it there, it tastes much better.
(4)Carolynne M.
OK, it's a dive, and the pizza is not 100% legit NY Style, but to me, pizza is not pizza unless you can pick it up and fold it, so points to Luigi for that. Plus...slices? You never see that in Chicago and it is so great to not have to buy a whole pie! Plus, depending on what time you go, you will get Maury on the TV and so you will get the added bonus of a "DNA Baby Daddy" drama. girrrrllll, you don't NEED any extra spice with dat!
(5)Jennie H.
(See below for an udpate - original review was 3 stars) The pizza is great. I have ordered delivery from this place twice. My husband was born and raised in Brooklyn, and was downright SHOCKED that after 10 months of living in Chicago he had stumbled across New Yorkesque pizza. Finally. (Note: For truer NY style you will want to order it well done) Living in New York, we expected delivery to take up to 40 minutes. Anything past that was unacceptable. Here in Chicago, at least in Lakeview, the typical time seems to be closer to 60 minutes. We have accepted that. Well, tonight, our pizza and salad took exactly 1 hour and 50 minutes. When I called there was no apology... either of the two times I called. The delivery guy did apologize and claimed it was a very busy night. I don't know what could have been done about it but it makes me sad. I hate complaining... I hate having a great pizza arrive cold, rendering it not great at all, alongside a soggy salad. I hate stiffing the delivery guy so I didn't. I can only assume he's a victim in poor planning. To me, service is half the point of a restaurant so I can't give them 4 stars! I will give them another chance because the pizza is so darn good when it's hot and not an hour late. **** Update: I called Luigi last night for a reprisal of the pizza we so want to love and have in our lives. I mentioned the manager's name and the promise of a discount. Before I could get the words out, the man read my address to me and told me, "I'm going to give you a big discount." Really? Great! They did take 65-70 minutes, but it was delicious, and we got $10 off. Yay Luigi! Also, the salad is really good but make sure you take the trash out ASAP if you don't eat the onions. P U!
(4)Isla E.
I really liked it but the NY thin crust could have supported a little more sauce. I think if I ever go back I'll ask for a side of sauce; see how that works out. I'm glad they offer spinach, artichoke, and eggplant as vegetable toppings, in addition to the typical veggie toppings. I think I also saw some goat cheese on a pizza. The kitchen is clean.

Best pizza BY THE SLICE I've had in Chicago (in five years!). Very friendly staff. Clean. Cozy atmosphere. BYOB which makes it even better! Not a place to go if in a hurry but otherwise a definite 5 stars!
(5)Kathy L.
We've lived in Chicago for 20 years and this is the best NY-style pizza we've found so far. We've ordered from them dozens of times and it's always been delicious (for what it's worth, we always order pepperoni). Yes, it's foldable and greasy, but that's what it's supposed to be (if you want crisp crust and fat-free, go elsewhere). Love it!
(5)Julie H.
Cafe Luigi truly is New York style pizza; just like Famous Original Ray's. If only they had garlic knots... My only gripe is that they won't deliver to my neighborhood. I was a Cafe Luigi regular when I lived in Lincoln Park; now that I live in Wicker Park, nothing else compares. I stopped in there a few weeks ago to grab a slice, and I asked the girl behind the counter how far west they would deliver; "Damen," she replied. But last week when I called to place an order for delivery, they refused (I live 2 blocks east of Damen). Too bad for them because I'm a good tipper. Oh snap.
(4)Liz B.
I went to check this place out because I am from NY and read alot of reviews about the place and I wanted to see if their pizza was really as good as NY's Pizza and I have to admit the regular pie was absolutely delicious! It really tatsed like great ny style pizza,,,Nice crust - tasty cheese with a good amount of grease for dunking your pizza crust in!!! :) Word of caution though, they carry sicillian pizza but it doesn't taste like anything but plain bread it's very very bland and the crust is terrible!!! Make sure you go try their regular pie though cause you wont regret it!!!! Wishing I had some right now!
(4)bob t.
I am a huge fan of this place. I am a very picky eater and rarely find a place that is worthy of going back to. I can always count on Luigi's to satisfy my stomach. I love the thin crust pizza and the best part is that it is BYOB. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
(5)Yo U.
Honestly, I don't get why so many people think that Cafe Luigi is the bee's knees. I have eaten pizza there three or four times, and it has never prompted me to think "Gee, this is fantastic!" The toppings are of average quality and the crust is only alright. All in all, this place earns no more a "meh" from yours truly.
(3)Melissa T.
Luigi is a staple in my simple Chicago life. (Not to mention my friends- you know who you are reading this.) I've lived around Luigi for about 5 years and make a trip in at least once every 10 days. The slices are thin, tasty and generous...and I actually eat the crust! The pepperoni- breadsticks are an added bonus too. A slice of pizza, a breadstick with sauce, and fountain drink will run you just under $6...can you ask for anything more? A true LP gem.
(5)Jen G.
I used to live right near this place and have always adored their thin slices. I'm one of those weirdos that thinks pizza actually tastes better by the slice and that if we all had the ability to reheat things in pizza ovens, our appetites would be oh-so-satisfied... I had to go to Hanig's Slipper Box after work yesterday and I deliberately staged my commute so that I'd have to pass Luigi's...I ordered a single cheese slice and it was exactly like I remembered: hot, cheesy and tasty with just the right amount of crust. I'd say 75 percent of the customers get their pizza to go or have it delivered, but I chose to eat my slice inside. While I was in there a few other solo diners came in and ate inside as well, including a couple with a baby. There was a television playing the local news, but that's about it in terms of ambience. There are about 8 tables for two and a long counter that showcases the pizza. In addition to thin crust, they also have what I think it called "Sicilian" pizza-- thicker, yet not deep dish. A couple of posters mentioned some things that I don't agree with: Re: greasy. Call me crazy, but isn't pizza supposed to be greasy? Isn't that part of the appeal? I didn't notice any more grease on yesterday's slice than any other pizza I've tried. Re: air conditioning: True, it was in the 60s yesterday, but Luigi's was freezing and I'm pretty sure I sat underneath the air vent. Finally, Weird but true extra tidbit: When the man at the counter asked if I was a getting it "for here" or "to go" I hesitated before asking if I could use the restroom. Note: this is a small place with no apparent public restaurant. He directed me through the kitchen (!) and I was able to use the facilties before enjoying my pizza. I know, I know, too much information, but wasn't that super nice?

As a Long Island transplant who had pizza for dinner every Fri. night of her life, I can't stand what the city of Chicago calls pizza. When I fly home to visit my parents I always bring a pie back here and freeze it to satisfy my pizza cravings. That said, the freezer is empty now and after seeing the Trib's pizza article today I decided I NEEDED pizza. Any place that offers by the slice is right up my alley, and I decided to give Cafe Luigi a shot. Ordered from there and was very happily surprised. While this isn't the best pizza I've ever had, it's head and shoulders above anything else I've had in this city. Foldable, orange pizza grease, perfect cheese, cooked well, big triangular slices... it was heaven. Delivery was quick, and everything was correct, and it's cheap! None of that $3+ a slice crap. If I still lived in NY, I wouldn't go out of my way to get (or avoid) their pizza, but for as long as I live here, I've found my go-to place. FWIW, I see that an earlier review noted Cafe Luigi was cash only. We paid for our delivery w/a visa, and had no issues. I guess they've upgraded. I submitted their website to yelp, but it hasn't gone through yet. If you want to check out their menu, go to cafeluigipizza.com Update: Their website has been updated - it's now cafeluigipizza.com - I walked in there for the first time ever this past weekend, and it smells almost exactly like a NY pizza place should. Ah, memories. :) Everything was yummy - as per usual.

I'm definitely a deep dish kind of girl ...but you can't go wrong with a giant $3 slice of thin crust pizza. Quick, cheap and tasty, just how I like my meals. I found the old man behind the counter to be friendly ...he gave me two magnets to take home. Based on the reviews, I must have caught him in a good mood. Or had my zipper down, one of the two. Luckily I live nearby so I dont have to deal with delivery issues ...but let's talk when there is 10 inches of snow on the ground and I want a giant slice of pizza.
(4)Katie R.
My slice was delicious (just got a slice of cheese to go for lunch). My only complaint is that I wish it had been just a touch fresher. If you need a quick bite of thin, NY style pizza, stop in here.
(4)Brian S.
Great pizza. Feels like Jersey! They even have that boardwalk-style white pizza. Delicious! For a true heart attack wrapped in doug, Try a New York Roll. It's kinda like a calzone, but filled with only the essentials: cheese, sausage and pepperoni. And there's something about their marinara that's better than anywhere else...
(4)C C.
Delicious. Love the pizza.
(5)Greg M.
Ok first let me say that maybe it is my fault. Maybe I shouldn't have went to a pizza joint and ordered lasagnia. But on the menu it said specialty so I figured it should be good. First when trying to order I had to shout it out cause the guy is basically deaf. No really I kid not. Even when other people came in or he took orders over the phone their voices were louder and he was shouting. When I got my food I knew it wasn't going to be good. The sauce was runny and for the garlic bread there was a 3/4 piece of melted cheese on it. Upon cutting into the still some what hopeful pasta there wasn't really anything in between the pasta. I couldn't see any meat or cheese in between the layers. Oh oh I thought. I took a few bites and it was very uneventful, kind of like just blah. After a few more bites I was hitting bits of hot and cold pockets in the dish. I don't think that is how it is supposed to go down. But then again I am not a cook so maybe I am wrong? Naw I don't think so. I will say that the pizza looked decent and maybe it was since the place was taking quite a few delivery orders. But I do not think I will be returning here any time soon.
(1)Peter H.
Overall, I think the slices are big/tasty but the place would be a lot better if they mixed it up a bit. Every time I come here, they have the same slices (cheese, pepperoni, sausage and spinach/mushrooms). Give me the ability to add more ingredients and I'll gladly give you another star.
(3)Kristin C.
Any pizza place that advertises "by the slice" is already up there in my book because this implies I can eat my favorite food in America in its non-party-slice form. After hoofin' it by this place on numerous occasions, I just HAD to kill the mystery once and for all. I ordered an entire pie (risky, yes but I was up for it) for delivery. Important to note, they accept cash only (which posed a problem when my boyfriend couldn't find his wallet and I was cash-less. The delivery guy was very patient while we looked). On to the pizza - definitely some good stuff going on there. Big and cheesy slices closer to NY style than I have seen in Chicago. Definitely some foldable slices going on. I always order mine with ronis and they were divine. Hooray for Cafe Luigi - don't overlook it!
(4)Maddi R.
You can walk in and buy a pizza by-the-slice if you don't want to wait for an entire pizza to bake. Best thin-slice pizza I've found in Chicago since living here for the past year. They have a minimum for using a credit card, which is annoying.
(5)j w.
Best NY style pizza in town. I do not like sausage pizza...except this place. Wow, the sausage pizza is outstanding. You will not be disappointed with this place. And they have really good italian beefs as well.
(5)Christine J.
Best NY style pizza in Chicago. Giving it three stars because delivery times are a disaster. Be prepared to wait an hour and a half for your pizza.
(3)Pam M.
Hands down, the best NY-style pizza in Chicago!! The crust is thin, the sauce is perfect (not too spicy or too sweet), and just the right amount of melty cheese. I've been meaning to try the calzones, but I can never resist the siren song of a folded slice of cheese...transplanted NYers, this is your place!
(5)MsAnthro P.
I'm a Chicago gal who's never been to New York, so I can't verify the claims that Cafe Luigi serves up traditional New York-style slices. But it certainly met my expectations of a divey place to get a good, cheap, greasy slice of sausage pizza that filled me up. Yay for the free refills on sodas. Boo to the illegal credit card minimum. The counter person allowed my friend to use her card, but told her that "next time" (as if) she'd have to buy $7 worth of food to use her card. When I mentioned that it's illegal (well, against Visa and MC merchant agreements anyhow) to force a minimum, the worker smiled and laughed and said she knew and shrugged her shoulders. Yeah, I know it probably wasn't in her control, but what a lousy position for the owner/s to put an employee (not to mention customers) in.
(2)Kara M.
I'm from the east coast so I love some good NY style pizza. If you're looking for the same then look no further. They have a lot of interesting combos for toppings and the slices are very generous. the crust is awesome and it's just the right amt of sauce and toppings. great place!
(5)Bess R.
I've eaten at Cafe Luigi several times on a college football Saturday after many hours at Duffy's or another nearby establishment. It's great NY style pizza when you're under the influence...not so great when sober...then it provides extreme heartburn and other unfortunate side-effects...don't ask...
(2)Ashley P.
I called ahead and ordered a calzone and breadsticks -- wowsers. Bready, gooey, saucy and cheesy. All scientific terms for how good and greasy it was.
(3)Steve M.
I have never had New York Style before today. I lost my bus pass at the zoo and was walking up Clark and I saw Luigi's. I remembered a thread on here about pizza. I went in and saw the calzones, different types of thin and stuffed pizza. I ordered the spinach, riccota and tomato thin slice and a Dr. Pepper for $5.69. The slice was as big as my head and was pretty f%+#n good.It wasn't overloaded with ingredients or cheese. It definitely mellowed my harsh over losing my cta plus card. For now I give it 4 stars but will have to order again just to re taste.
(4)Jeff S.
I have yet to find a better NY style pizza in Chicago.
(5)Rob U.
One of a handful of places nearby to grab a quick bite. I'll be back for a slice of pepperoni, but I didn't really enjoy the stuffed meatlover's pizza I had. I thought I had the "meatlover" designation pegged, but this slice was totally overflowing with "meh" meat and not enough cheese in my opinion. Luigi will fill you up!
(3)James S.
I've been looking for a good New York style pizza ever since getting hooked on this style at Mama Lucia's while working in Rockville, MD a few years back. I like the deep dish and the thicker chicago style crust as well, but those pizzas just won't get the job done when you're craving that floppy foldable thin crust.
(4)Sarah W.
very inconsistent pizza. i ordered it (large cheese) a few weeks ago and it was REALLY soggy...like so soggy you couldn't eat it w/o a spoon. and that was the second time this happened. i still enjoy cafe luigi but its a roll of the dice as to what you will get...
(3)Ellen M.
As far as N.Y. style goes it's "ok" Pronto Za has much better crust.
(3)r j.
I just set a record time for consumption of 3 pepperoni slices. I've been in C for a few weeks now, and have had a couple of slices at Luigi's and thought it was a decent representation of the real thing. Nothing great.... However, this evening I ordered in a large pepperoni pie and it was fantastic. Much better than the potentially not so fresh slices that are sitting up at the counter for walk-ins. On top of it, they are really not screwing around when it comes to a large pizza. That was the biggest freeking large pizza box I have ever had the pleasure of wrapping my arms around. I'm definitely a fan at this point, and look forward to checking out some of their other offerings. This could also be problematic in that they are a 2 minute walk from my house :-(. I also think they are Russians, and if they are, they learned the ropes pretty well.
(4)Arlene A.
After my debacle of an experience at another pizza place, a little bird (thanks D.K.) told me I could find my beloved New York style Pizza. There's a tear running down my face right now. First off, there's the counterman, (probably the owner) who looks like he still goes back to visit the family in Brooklyn. I found it comforting that there was someone behind the counter that wasn't super perky, smiley, have a nice dayey. While all that is nice sometimes, other times I just want some peace and quiet to chow down on my bad ass slice of pizza. Now, the pizza: It's sooo yummy and foldable and it's got that great chewy, crispy, airy crust that brings my back to my beloved New York City. I'm glad that in the land of the famous deep dish pizza, that there is room for my new favorite pizza place :-) They also have great coupons online for those times when the lazy just takes over. If you like your pizza NY style, you will like Cafe Luigi.
(5)Randi R.
Ok I am updating my review. I still think the pizza is very good, and the closest I have found to new york style pizza. But the service is terrible. Really terrible. I went in this weekend, and while there were two people behind the counter, and one on the phone, they completely ignored me. After one of them finally gave me my slice, I still had to wait ages to be rung up. Thankfully, I had exact change and just gave it to them and walked out, But seriously that is bad service. Service that you would not see in new york.
(2)Carey A.
One of the best pizza places here. Garlic bread is alright.
(4)Tiff B.
Best NY style pizza in Chicago. The end. The place doesn't offer much in the way of ambiance or service. But the pizza is damn good.
(5)Stacey P.
I was craving NY style pizza and ordered delivery from here. It was good, and now I crave luigis!!! I wish the crust was more tender...it was actulaly really tough and hard to eat. However, save that one gripe, the pizza was EXCELLENT. i crave it now.
(4)Joshua M.
Never actually eaten inside, but we've had them deliver to our work a couple of times. Best thin crust pizza I have eaten in Chicago hands down.
(5)Ryan K.
Perfect place to grab a coke and a slice. Just really good pizza. Perfect amount of cheese on each slice. And the cheese never comes apart from the crust to make bites uneven. There is a certain amount of pizza making talent to that.
(4)James B.
THE ONLY NY SLICE IN CHICAGO. Nothing comes close. I'm not saying it's the best in the city, but nothing comes as close to a New York slice as Cafe Luigi. However, it's a little more expensive that it used to (should) be. Better than the drive or flight, though.
(5)A.S. V.
It's funny how Lincoln Park is associated with upscale, frou frou residents, but this stretch has more cheap holes-in-the-walls than anywhere in the city. This place has been here for ten years, and I didn't really notice it until relatively recently. Decent NY style slices. For one slice, I prefer non-greasy Chicago style stuffed spinach, personally.
(3)Jen M.
This is a cute little neighborhood pizzeria--no frills. An older Italian couple runs the place. You pick the piece of 'za you want from the case, they heat it up, and you pick it up at the counter. My friend from New York City even said this is the closest she's had to NYC pizza outside of NYC. It's good shit.
(4)Rocky B.
OMG I love Cafe Luigi! I myself am a big New York Style pizza freak so this place helps feed my addiction. Slices are huge and I love the fact that they don't put mounds and mounds of cheese on their pizza. It's just enough to make it nice and cheesy and just enough so where you can taste the yumminess of their sauce. I hate the fact that I don't live in the area anymore so I can get my fix at a moments notice.
(4)Erin D.
By far the best place for pizza aside from Ranaldis on Broadway. Every piece of pizza is wonderful. Great sized NY style pizza with all the toppings you could ever want. The owner is always present and caring. A real family type place to get your pie on. Also, if you can, get the stromboli, you cannot appreciate this place unless you can dine on the sauce....it is exceptional and may get lost in your slice if you over do it with toppings. The price is average, but the taste and service our exceptional. My fav. place for last minute dinner on Clark Street in LP.
(5)Monica G.
So finally after numerous people telling me this where to get East Coast pizza in Chicago, I ordered a medium cheese and mushroom for delivery over the weekend. Damn, it was good!! I'm Philly and there's only three things I miss (food wise): soft pretzels, cheesesteaks, and pizza. Cafe Luigis is def the closest thing to East Coast pizza that I've tasted in Chicago, Way better than Bacci's! The dough is perfect and the sauce is a little sweet. Just like real East Coast pizza it's sooooo good cold the next day! I highly suggest this place for their pizza.
(4)Jennifer M.
I love this place! Everything I've had there has been delcious. Atmosphere is casual and friendly, service is so nice and the food is so yummy!
(5)Natalie S.
Hands down... Best thin crust in the city! It takes an hour or longer when we order delivery after 5pm, but it's worth the wait.
(5)Steve O.
the best ny style pizza in chicago that i've tasted
(5)Nick S.
Great Pizza by the slice!! I was a little leary at first when I saw the pizzas are pre-made and they just pop them into the oven. But, then I tasted it. LOVE IT! The sauce, the crust, it is just great. And it comes by the slice so it's great for a quick bite. The place is a bit of a dive, but it is clean. I stick with the pizza. I tried the salad and it was okay. Haven't tried other items because I am addicted to the pizza so I stick with what works. It is a nice break from that deep dish stuff that your tourists friends want everytime they come into town.
(4)Doug p.
This place is perfect for NY style pizza..being from the east coast its one of those things you come to miss in this city of deep dish pizza
(5)Nolan S.
Only authentic NYC style pizza I have found in ChiTown. I grew up in Brooklyn and know what NY pizza is and this is the only place I have found it.
(5)Shannon D.
As a Jersey native, this is the only pizza I'll eat in Chicago. Tastes almost as good as the pies back home. A little pricey compared to the places back east, but I'll gladly pay rather than have to eat Chicago-style
(5)hlzdg h.
Good pie and a great alternative for those that want pizza and not deep dish. It is probably the closest thing in town to East Coast pizza, but it is not as good as the better places in NYC.
(4)Kevin K.
Let me start by saying that I am a long time voyeur of Yelp as I travel across the U.S looking for recommendations of what and where to eat. With that said, I finally signed up so that I can give back to this fine community of reviewers and foodies (plus I wanted to see a bigger picture of a girl's user photo). I decided my first review should be Café Luigi because I have been dining in and ordering delivery from here since I moved to the North side in 1999. I'm happy to report that nothing has changed and it remains one of the best pies in Chicago. I always order the NY style thin and no matter what toppings I choose, the pizza is awesome. It has delicious crust, tasty sauce with just the right amount of cheese. If you opt for the sausage it is ground, crumbly, spicy and delicious. The only topping caveat is that the mushrooms are canned and I would prefer fresh. I also like to order the New York Roll; it is baked dough stuffed with sausage, pepperoni and cheese and comes with a side of the red tangy pizza sauce for dipping. The breadsticks are also a favorite with a pepperoni surprise inside. This pizza is some of the best thin crust in Chicago and rivals anything I've had in New York.
(4)K S.
This is the best NY-style pizza you can get here in Chicago. No, it's not the exact equivalent, but I'll take it any day over the Chicago-style pizza. It's thin crust and oozing with cheese and sauce. It has the perfect balance of sauce and cheese. The calzone isn't too bad either. I prefer the large cheese pizza. It's nice too because you can go in and buy it by the slice if you don't want to buy an entire pizza. The owner isn't the friendliest nor is the pizzeria the nicest but the pizza is always fresh and he uses good ingredients. Who cares about the decor of a pizzeria? Sometimes the delivery service is spotty (i.e. not always offered) however, I'll drive there anytime as long as I can get it!
(5)Dale A.
As a Native NYer this is THE CLOSEST I've had to old fashioned, go to any dive on your corner, NYC pizza! Right down to the sauce! now I love Chicago deep dish, but occasionally I do miss the favors of home. This is the place I've found so far where I'll get my NYC style pizza! PS-yet to try the calzone, but they aren't nearly as big as the ones I've had in NYC.
(4)Josh ..
Great place for a slice when you're walking down Clark....
(5)Joe S.
I've got to disagree with the other reviewers. This is NOT true NY Pizza. It's close, but no cigar. Too thick sometimes, the oven isn't coal fired. This is cheap tourist joint NY pizza. Except the sausage and pepperoni are good quality. Owner seems nice. Tasty pizza, but NOT New York.
(3)John M.
This is about the only decent thin pizza in Chicago. If you want a pizza cut into slices and want the crust to taste like something OTHER than crackers-this is the place.
(4)Robert S.
I love this place. The pepperoni breadsticks are the shit, and the stuffed pizza has LOTS of meat. The strombolis are good also. The staff is nice, and I have a crush on the girl that works on Sundays. I do wish they would take cards because I always forget to have cash ready.
(4)Lee-Han H.
It's really good NY Pizza but I prefer being in NY and eating it there. It's okay. Good prices and good variety.
(4)Todd E.
It's definitely NY style pizza, and I think they do a decent job with it (having just moved back from the upper east side). Nothing special though.
(2)Sydney K.
Good solid NYC style pizza combined with cheap prices makes Cafe Luigi a great find. The pizza slices are big enough to fold and not too greasy. Service is quick and efficient.
(3)Ren H.
great greasy pizza... i like this place because its out of the way of all the toursity downtown pizza places
(4)David R.
Holy hell, this pizza is damn near perfect: crust very slightly underdone, SLIGHTLY too much cheese...but goddamn good. A-, absolutely the best NY pizza in Chicago. It is true that the stuff is better if you get a whole pie baked just for you rather than buying the slices. But the slice that I had Saturday was pretty good too, if slightly too crisp in the crust department. Unfortunately their calzone leaves much to be desired. This is New York style also, which means that you can't build your own. It comes with either ham or broccoli and the cheese is mozzarella and ricotta. I happen to dislike ricotta but that wasn't the problem. This thing had one razor-thin slice of ham in it and about two-thirds of the total volume was ricotta, which strangely had the exact appearance and consistency of tofu. And the little cup of accompanying sauce is that watery nothing-but-tomato kind. They also have sausage rolls! Now, New York pizza is common enough to find everywhere across the U.S., but I have never seen a sausage roll anywhere west of the Alleghenies. It was really good--same crust as the calzone, good size, nice ingredients, perfect amount of cheese. It was a bit imbalanced in favor of the sausage; I wanted less of that and more peppers and onions. But overall a solid B+. Hooray for sausage roll in Chicago!
(4)Mary T.
Ok Luigi I kept my word and gave you a second shot and you didn't let me down. Your NY-style thin was pretty darn good and my spinach calzone to-go, heated up for lunch the following day, was pretty kick ass too. However, while I was there I again saw someone nuke some pizza for a customer! Can we 86 this microwave business, you're bringing down the quality of your product! Capice? ~Mary
(4)Tiff W.
My go to for pizza delivery now...nothing better than a slice of mushroom pizza sprinkled with parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes. The cheese, tomato sauce, and crust all pass my NYC style standards. It needs more grease though (this is the only food for which I will say, the greasier the better). This is the closest...I mean CLOSEST I've gotten to obtaining the often imitated, never replicated NYC slice in this fine city. It ain't the real thing but it's close, and I'll take what I can get.
(4)Lauren H.
Grazie. Lauren **disclaimer, I don't speak Italian, so if any of the above is not translated correctly, perdoni mi. Basically, the pizza is really good!
(4)Corbin B.
I have been looking for a go-to NY style pizza place in this city for years, and I have found it. Cafe Luigi tastes just like the pizza I have had in NYC, and that is a great thing. The women that helped me out when I went in were friendly, speedy, and on-the-ball. I ordered two slices of cheese and two garlic knots. The knots came with a side of marinara (included). All the food was cooked to perfection. The pizza is a little greasy, but that is to be expected with the copious amounts of cheese on this thing. Good job, Luigi!
(5)Stephanie S.
So good. I haven't tried a whole pie yet but the slices are maybe the best I've ever tasted. Definitely the best in Chicago. The employees are friendly, too. Go there now!
(5)Leslie R.
I work in the area, so I'm always walking around on my break trying to find somewhere new to eat. I walked by and after checking out the reasonable prices in their window menu decided to check it out. I got a thin slice spinach-tomato-feta slice and a thick cheese slice. The first was delicious, and but the thick cheese was very meh. I mean, I didn't expect fireworks for a thick cheese slice of pizza but I dunno. My total was about $7.50. The place is very small and hole-in-the wall with a lot of Italian options outside of pizza (I'm talking calzones and the like, not pasta or anything). I might go back for the spinach or broccoli puff. It was a Sunday, so only two people were inside eating, but the owner (?) was pretty short and definitely not customer-oriented. Kind of an Old Italy type guy, but I wasn't seriously offended because I have definitely had far worse. Overall, the pizza is good for the price, but don't expect anything out of this world. I'll definitely be back!
(4)Jamie B.
Thank you pizza gods for introducing me to Cafe Luigi which has been in my backyard for 3 years, yet has gone unnoticed until now. This is some ridiculously good NY style pizza. First of all, you can get an 18" cheese pizza from here for $16, which is really good for its location. The best part is that the pizza itself is downright delicious. The crust, cheese and sauce are all top notch. The crust is thin and has a great chewiness to it, and it doesn't get all soggy from the sauce and grease, which can be a problem with some NY style pizza. The sauce is thin with a bit of sweetness and just the right amount of pop. We ordered take out and walked to pick up the pizza since it is so close. It was done on time, and the perfect temperature by the time we got home. This will definitely become one of our pizza staples when we want take out.
(5)Ryan C.
I stopped in there with a friend today just for a slice pizza. It was a tough decision between the deep dish or New York Style thin crust. I went with the NY Style partly partly because it seemed like too much crust with a thin layer of toppings. Hmmmm, it was good. I loved the crust. The pizza was had right amount of cheese and a decent amount of crumbled sausage, which is perfect for folding pizza in half...the way NY style pizza should be eaten. They have calzones and rolls that looked really good, which I was tempted to get on top of the pizza. However, I wasn't that hungry but will try next time. Luigi's, you lose a star for having a $7.00 min charge for credit purchase, which is a violation of your merchant agreement with Mastercard and Visa. Tisk tisk... I don't carry cash on me and won't be back as much as I like. You should however, thank my friend for having cash on her. If not, I would have kept on walking.

Best NY style thin crust pizza in Chicago.
(5)Anne H.
Great thin crust pizza. Some of the best in Chicago! Greasy and salty, but that's what makes it sooo good.
(4)Michael G.
As a Garden Stater, this is a little slice of home for me. Pun intended. Chicago has hot dog stands. NY/NJ has pizza by the slice on every corner. Notice I said slice not square. That's another topic unto itself. If you're looking for authentic NY style pizza, this is the place. Chicago "thin crust" is not to be confused with NY style. The difference being the crust, choice of sauces and cheeses. Traditional pizza dough is meant to be hand tossed, not run through a sheeter. It gives it a taste and texture far superior to Chicago "thin crust" pizza. But as with any review, this is subjective. So go try for yourself. 4 out of 5 stars because I prefer Diet Coke to Diet Pepsi, they can be heavy handed with the cheese at times, and because there is always room for improvement. 5 out of 5 stars is a myth. :)

A haiku: "New Yorkers" who think this is great New York pizza must be from upstate
(3)Maria P.
This place is great for a greasy piece of pizza. They are large triangle slices, and they remind me much of what I've had in New York. It's not a fancy place by any means, but that's not what you are going there for. I've been there many times and I'm sure I'll be back soon.
(3)Anthony A.
Best NY style pizza in Chicago. If your sick of the gut busting Giordano's deep dish experience and like the NY style slice which you can fold in half (this is mandatory, by the way), then Cafe Luigi is the spot to try. I love the old Italian dude who answers the phone. Be nice and don't confuse him. This leads to my next point: keep it simple. Go pepperoni or cheese. Remember this is NY style pizza. I've ordered other toppings before and it simply wasn't good. But if you get the pepporini or cheese, it's going to be awesome. NY style pizza done right in Chicago.

Forgive my ignorance in advance, as I have little clue as to what exactly NY Style pizza is supposed to be. I'll do my best to describe. They deliver via GrubHub, which is impressive considering we're not exactly in what I'd consider delivery range in relation to their Lincoln Park location. Delivery was earlier than estimated, food was hot. Tried the Neapolitan thin crust. The bottom crust is quite thin, but SUPER soggy. I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I like that aspect, but the flavor combo of the crust, sauce, and cheese is great. Very salty, though. Side salad was average. Little cup of dressing seemed to be ALL vinegar. Invigorating! Would not recommend the Arancini. It was pretty sad. Tried a Sausage Roll as well. It was pretty good. I'd recommend sticking with the pizza, and if thin and crispy crust is your thing, steer clear of Luigi's.

I decided to try Cafe Luigi after a few Yelpers recommended it as being the best New York style pizza in the city. As far as I can tell, from a Midwestern boy's point of view, New York style pizza is simply thin crust pizza cut into triangles that tend to sag such that you have to fold it to eat it. I went in and ordered a couple slices around 8 p.m. on a weeknight. They took the pre-cooked slices from the display case and re-heated them. Sometimes, this works. Sometimes, it doesn't. The damages were something just south of seven bucks. Very reasonable. As for taste, I'd say these were relatively average slices. They're definitely big and cheesy, but it seemed from the taste and dryness that there was almost no sauce on them. That's the shortfall of Luigi's slices, in my opinion. I've had better slices at Aurelio's and Whole Foods, to name a few. Luigi's slices are only okay. They'd be great to have next door when coming home hammered or when stumbling out of Frank's late night. But they're not worth much of a trip. Two and one-half stars. Bada-bing.

I have to admit.... I'm a little conflicted.... there's a battle going on in my stomach between Luigi's NY style pizza and Gigio's NY style pizza, although the more I eat both the more I tend to swing towards Cafe Luigi. I'm one of those nut-jubs who thinks that the crust is one of the most important ingredients for a great pizza, and the crust here is heavenly, a little crispy on the outside but nice and doughy on the inside. The sauce has a sweetness that you don't find at most pizza joints, and they really load on the cheese!! I echo the sentiments of other yelpers; Keep it Simple!! Pepperoni and sausage is my old stand-by, but you can't go wrong with their mushrooms either.
(5)John H.
A close to New York Pizza as I have found, but the crust is not thin and chewy, My slice came apart and I needed a fork and knife. It did not fold well so it lost a star.

I had posted a question on the Yelp board a while back, asking for suggestions on where to go in Chicago for NYC-style thin crust pizza. Cafe Luigi was one of the 'za joints suggested by a number of folks. Meanwhile I got busy, ended up eating a bunch of Pizza in Rehoboth Beach, DE that satisfied my craving, and made vague plans to try this place Cafe Luigi place at some point before Xmas. Finally, I called over, ordered a 16" pepperoni & mushroom pizza, and picked it up yesterday. It was torture to smell the aroma of freshly-cooked pizza as I fought my way through post-Cubs traffic, but after 30 minutes, I drove the four miles to my house. I ran past my wife and barked out "The pizza is here I'll be down in one minute I have to change into my pizza-eating cargo shorts!" I liked it. The crust was definitely in the zone. I thought the cheese, which was now warm, was decent enough that I'd suffer the drive on a routine basis. My wife admitted through a mouthful of cheese and tomato sauce that the 'za was better than Dags... validation. Even my three and five year old boys asked for three/four bites... It was if they had been missing East coast style pizza too. Now had I only ordered the pizza just for me, I would ask them to make it super hot, pepperoni only, and no mushrooms because they take away from my experience. I might go for extra oregano and basil too... I might have to experiment with how I can customize the order to make it perfect. Don't get me wrong, it still was not as good as the pizza from NYC, Boston, Baltimore, Rehoboth, Atlantic City etc... But it's now on top of my thin-crust, East coast pizza joint list for Chicago. Pizzaco had been number one, but now it's a distant #2. I thought about saving the box, kind of a momento, but the wife thought that was mental. So I trudged to the alley and the trash cans. Now I might be lying if I said that I didn't re-open the box, and just once, look for little bits of cheese that I might have missed. I might have licked the bottom of the box to recapture the memory of the pizza that I barely chewed a scant 15 minutes before too but I'll never tell.
(4)Nick R.
Not the best customer service but I really don't care. They could punch me in the face and I'm still calling on sunday night to order a pepperoni and sausage pizza pie. If you love NYC pizza then this is the place for you. Kudos to your pizza Luigi. Love Mario.
(4)Chris m.
A long overdue review. Just one of the best pizzas in Chicago. It's NY style and simply amazing. Perfect "sweetish" sauce, and as important, perfect crust: in texture and flavor. It's actually better when you go there to eat because the bottom of the pizza stays crisp. When it's delivered, of course it sits in the box for awhile so it tends to be more floppy, but still great. Of course, an issue with any pizza. Also, I go for easy cheese and extra sauce, that's just my preference as cheese is not that important to me and their sauce is good. And they do put a lot of cheese so that's a way to lighten it up. The fact that I'm even analyzing all this proves how much I love it. Crave this all the time. So good I will even eat it cold the next day, and I normally am not a cold pizza eater. Thank god it's not closer as it would affect my waistline bigtime.

I am a Jersey girl. I moved to Chicago about 2.5 years ago and for the first year and a half gorged myself eating deep dish pizza from all sorts of places around the city, especially because so many people would come into town to visit me from back home and EVERYONE has to have Chicago-style pizza. After awhile, I started to REALLY miss a good old New York slice. I searched Google, Yelp, Urbanspoon, you name it, to find a place with a quality slice and I was constantly disappointed. How could a city with such great variety of food not have a SINGLE place with decent New York style pizza!? Then I discovered Cafe Luigi (thanks to the Yelpers below me, you guys are awesome). This is the absolute closest you can get to a real life NY slice in Chicago. It oozes, melts in your mouth, and takes you right back home to the good old northeast. If you are a huge NYC pizza lover like myself, you MUST check this place out.
(4)FM G.
As a New Yorker, I definitely know my pizza! Luigi's pizza is BY FAR the best pizza in Chicago. With every bite you are transported back to the east coast pizza heaven. I highly suggest you grab a slice from them. You will not be disappointed. :)
(5)Rebecca H.
I love this place! I have been there around three times and the pizza is so good, I recommend this to anyone looking for a quick slice and a place to sit and maybe watch a Disney movie on the tube (today I did, it was awesome). A+
(5)Chocolate H.
I eat here every time i goto doctor. I personally think this is the best pizza place in the city.
(4)Molly L.
I love New York City. If I had my way, I'd move there. One of the things I love most about New York is the pizza. I love a hot, cheesy, melty, slightly greasy, foldable slice of pizza on a paper plate. This can be difficult to find in the city of deep dish, but ladies and gentleman, I have found it. Here are a few reasons Cafe Luigi is the best New York-style pizza in Chicago. -under $3 for a slice of cheese -perfectly crispy crust -deliciously sweet sauce -Pepsi products in a fountain A+ work, Luigi!
(5)Dzeinara P.
I thought I knew what a good thin crust pizza is... but I had no idea what I was eating before. I want to protest all the other chain pizza places. I never eat the crust of a pizza, BUT I do here! The sauce is sweet but also savory! The cheese, o lord so much cheese!!! You can tell it's not just mozzarella there, I'm sure its got parmesan and ramono and maybe even provolone. They slice the pizza like a pie not Chicago thin crust square style. If you order a small, it is def good enough to feed two people, plus some left overs. By far my favorite pizza in Chicago. The people here know their dough, their cheese and their sauce!! I think my life is complete now.
(5)Chelsea F.
Luigi's has the best NY style pizza in Chicago! I am from the east coast and it doesn't get better than Luigi's when it comes to authentic NY pizza in Chicago! You can smell how delicious it is as soon as you walk in the door! They not only have thin crust pizza but Stromboli, cannoli deserts, and other yummy varieties. I am a healthy eater but cannot resist Luigi's mmmmm!
(5)Dabney, B.
This is my favorite Thin crust pizza in the city. I've been to NCY and always loved the slices there. It's not about NYC vs. Chicago. They are both excellent, and different, but if you are an NYC transplant, stop by here and it will remind you of home. I used to live around the corner and frequent this place on the regular, but now I have to get it delivered. Not as good as walking in and getting, it, but it still gets the job done. Also, this is some of the best pizza in the city when it comes to the re-heat. Re-heated pizza on average is about 66% of the first day delivered. This place is pusing 90%. The re-heat folks, it's all about the re-heat. I can't emphasize this enough. People don't pay enough attenion to this. If you haven't tried this place and have an itch to dig into a different kind of pizza to add to your list, look no further than Cafe Luigi. In my opinion, this is the most underrated pizza place in the city of Chicago. Enjoy!
(5)Shane C.
I popped into this place after a late dentist appointment. They have pan and thin slices and I ordered a slice of pan pizza with sausage and pepperoni. They had one or 2 of each slice from the menu on the counter, room temp, not very appealing, and the gentleman behind the counter took the slice behind a wall. A few seconds later I watched him put it in the oven for maybe 20 seconds. Microwaved? I don't know but the pizza was abysmal. I don't know what their system is but this pizza is not freshly prepared.
(1)John F.
THE BEST! Are you like Kevin McAlister, and want nothing more than to have your very own cheese pizza? Do you like Sbarro's but understand it could be better? Do you have a soul? If you answered yes to any of these, you will love Cafe Luigi. This is the best NY style pizza i have ever had. Just get plain cheese and enjoy.
(5)Lindsey C.
It's all I can do to keep myself from coming to this place for dinner every night. I have been a regular for two months now . . . I don't know what's been keeping me from writing a review. And yes, all of my reviews have been positive thus far. And yeah, that doesn't make me appear critical at all. Can I help it that I just know how to pick 'em? At any rate, I am addicted to Cafe Luigi's New York-style thin crust pizza. I was not exaggerating in my first paragraph. I seriously have to stop myself from eating their pizza EVERY night. If they were open later, I probably would be stuffing my face with their thin crust cheese pizza right now. The pizza dough is baked to perfection and there is just the right amount of sauce. Mmmm, I need to stop describing their pizza, my hands are beginning to shake. must have more pizza jakjdldiseldljldkfsnfa;lasl;jji...........
(5)Kevin O.
Seriously the best ny style pizza in the city. Authentic. Delicious.
(5)Nini Y.
I love the stuffed meat pizza and the broccoli roll, the place is just a small joint that has been there forever, and it is good to just walk in for a fast meal......their ricotta is homemade. i agree with others regarding the service... they are not very friendly and perky..... but this is just just a hole in the wall where you can get fast and cheap and delicious pizza in all different flavors....
(5)Elizabeth B.
I live in Chicago, but I hate Chicago-style pizza. Fortunately for me, Cafe Luigi makes fantastic NYC-style pizza. I've been going here since I moved to Chicago over three years ago and they consistently serve up delicious and fresh pizza, regardless of time of day and whether I order a slice or a pie. Delivery is on par to other places. I put in an order for two large pies at 7pm on a Saturday night and was told 45-60 minutes. It arrived in 45. I have found their delivery estimates to be accurate and they are happy to ring the bell or call a phone. Prices are totally reasonable. Dining in offers several small tables, which can be pulled together for a bigger group, but this isn't really a lingering-dinning place - it's pizza. The toppings list is pretty short, but they have everything I want, so I'm okay with that. They use a generous amount of toppings, which does make is somewhat tricky for people to pick them off. The sauce is "just right" - neither too sweet nor too spicy. The crust is thin, but present. Try pairing spinach and eggplant for a delicious veggie pizza! Yum.
(5)Joshua G.
I'm a transplant to Chicago from Philadelphia, so from time to time I start to really crave a good thin-crust pizza slice. Usually I can hold out until I visit the East Coast, but with no trip there any time soon, I started to do some research on where I could find what I was looking for here in Chicago. I decided to try a pepperoni pizza from Cafe Luigi and it was exactly what I was seeking - just as good as any of the pizza places I grew up with. The one and only reason I can't give it the final star is because they don't deliver to my neighborhood (Ravenswood), but it's well worth the drive for take out in my opinion.
(4)Tim H.
My new go to NYC style pizza joint in Chicago, so far the best I've found in the city. Impressed with Luigi's and will order again. Crust to cheese to sauce ratio was spot on, folded with ease, and had traditional pizza taste. One complaint is that the sausage topping was crumbled, not sliced, and was a little dry because of that. I'll be back, and recommend it to others craving NYC pizza in Chicago.
(3)Ashley V.
These reviews are very misleading... I was thinkin I should have checked yelp first because I would've been spared but I would've been even more disappointed. I just stopped in here for lunch between meetings, the lady working was very nice, unfortunately the pizza was just terrible. I don't know how long it had been sitting in the display, but she took it out and warmed it up and yeah it could fold but it was almost like a wet cardboard type consistency. The garlic/cheese bread was also no good. Nothing I ate was fresh or at least didn't taste like it. You can find someplace better to eat.... Seriously.
(2)A M.
The thin crust is a darn good pizza, they use a cheese that's a little salty and very delicious. The canolis are pretty good, greek salad good (especially with the jardiniere). I've never tried the Italian dishes, but friends in the area rave about their Baked Mostacolli.
(5)Damian C.
Woohoo for NY style pizza - a nice change when I'm have a non-stuffed pizza craving. The crust and the sauce were eerily similar to Sbarro at most malls nationwide.
(4)Peter H.
I'll be brief. Just moved here from New York and desperately fiending for anything remotely close to NYC-style pizza. Searched high and low for many moons before finding this place. Cafe Luigi offers the closest thing to NYC pizza in Chicago. It ain't perfect, but it literally felt like an average New York slice. And it immediately made me feel orders of magnitude less homesick. Thank GOD for this place.
(4)Johnny T.
Uggghhh. I am cold, tired and EXHAUSTED! Cafe Luigi, you may be stern, but you know how to replenish me after a looong night -- that turned into day. Thank heavens for Bob Evans and Grazie Puigi for Cafe Luigi. I needed that!
(4)Barri S.
Great place for NY style pizza. Really delicious, great size slices and plenty of cheese! Can't wait to go back for more.
(4)Leyla A.
I'm no fan of Chicago-style deep dish, I like NY thin crust slices, but I have been longing for Detroit-style pizza! My friend recommended this place in Lincoln Park. I tried a slice of mushroom pizza. I should have had cheese, the mushrooms were from a can, and my slice had hardly any sauce on it, just cheese. It was very similar to pizza slices I've had in NY, but I am still craving the hand-tossed crust, lots of thick Italian sauce, and real mozerrella cheese. I've tried a lot of pizza places in Chicago, and can't find what I am looking for. It's either deep dish, or cracker crust, or NY style with no sauce. ugh. the search continues.
(3)Jake C.
First, full disclosure: I'm not a fan of NYC style pizza. But, having spent a lot of time there, I know it when I taste it. And Luigi's is pretty authentic. About the only difference I can detect from the native NYC version is that Luigi's doesn't really heat the food up very well before handing it to you. They're also pretty authentic in their unfriendly attitude! When I go here, I generally get the stuffed pizza. This is much more satisfying than the greasy, fold-it-in-half style of the thin version. Very tasty and filling. Other pros: cheap. Other cons: no atmosphere at all, and there's always a TV blaring, inhibiting both reading (if you are alone) and conversation (if you are with a friend). But with the demise of Gioio's down the block, it is the only pizza by the slice left on this stretch of Clark St.
(3)Ang R.
This is nearly the only pizza I can stand to eat in Chicago anymore. Look, I don't know what happened, but I started HATING red sauce on pizza. This means that while I love going to Italian-style joints that feature many white pizzas, I'm mostly shut out from eating any sort of American pizza, be it New York or Chicago or whatever. But there is something about Luigi...I still love Luigi. I ate the thin crust just now, and every bite was absolutely perfect. Even the sauce. I can't explain it, I just know it to be true. I LOVE THIS PIZZA. Or maybe I even go beyond love. I don't know. I only know that whenever I want to eat pizza in my condo, it's going to have to be Luigi. (The delivery is slow, but whatever, because the breadsticks are also INCREDIBLE. Who cares if you have to wait 90 minutes? IT'S WORTH IT.)
(5)Claire Y.
2 yrs since moving from NYC, I finally made it to Cafe Luigi to try for myself what most Chicagoans claim as the closest to authentic NY pie. It was pretty good - correction, pretty darn good. The thin crust topped with enough marinara sauce and fresh mozzarella, baked in coal oven reminded me so much of my favorite street corner pizzeria in Manhattan (Joe's in Greenwich Village). I almost got tear eyed. Missing one star b/c the marinara sauce wasn't quiiiiite what I'm used to during the 11 yrs in NYC. I'm sorry, Luigi, but ya just gotta get that 100% right!
(4)Matthew B.
Easily the best NY style pizza in town -- especially delivery! There are some others in town that are noteworthy, but the pizza is too thin to carry out or deliver (it gets soggy). Set your oven to 350, and heat up each slice separately when the pizza arrives (like a NY pizzeria would do)
(4)Glenda C.
Tried this place only once. They have AMAZING NY style pizza!!!!! Soooo terribly good. The garlic knots were just oaky.
(4)Marielle S.
I grew up in New York/Connecticut, and have been searching for New York style pizza in Chicago for over a year. Deep dish is good once in a while, but I'm more interested in a thin slice. And that crackery texture of crust here doesn't work for me. Or that WAY TOO SWEET sauce. Cafe Luigi gets it right, though. Here, the slices are huge, the crust is more on the chewy side, and the toppings are good, but not excessive. The price is cheap and you can get slices. Perfect, low-maintenance kinda place.
(4)Gabe L.
I always picked Mario when playing Nintendo, because he got to ride Yoshi, which was just about the best thing ever, but for pizza, Luigi isn't too bad. It's nothing special either; crust is good, pizza a little greasy, but I've never tried it in NY (fughet about it), so I can't vouch for its authenticity. Story tangent: So my friend was hitting on a cashier girl who used to work here. She happened to be from an Eastern European country (as the owners are), and eventually he asked her out. She told him she was engaged. He asked why there wasn't a ring on her left hand. Turns out, in Eastern Europe, they sometimes wear it on their right hand. There, I just saved you 4 months of time and 10 pounds of pizza weight.
(3)Daphne Z.
Ehh...stopped in around 7pm on a Tuesday just to grab a slice of pizza after shopping with a friend all day. Being that we were starving and weren't entirely too picky about what filled the void in our stomach we scarfed down the 'za without hesitation but after our tummys were filled we realized that we probably would search elsewhere next time for a less greasy, under-sauced piece of pie. Unfortunately, pizza by the slice is oddly hard to come by in lp. :/
(2)Kimberly B.
!!!!!!!!!!!BAD CHEESE!!!!!!!! Now that I have your attention: So sad :( as a girl born and raised in New York and missing REAL pizza I wanted this place to be awesome but it's not. The first time I ordered was on a Friday night and waited 2 hours for cold pizza. But when I warmed it up it was really good New York pizza. I wanted to give it another shot so I order again on a Tuesday night and still waited an hour an a half, I live around the corner. I was so looking forward to my pizza but as soon as I open the box there was a smell. That moldy sponge smell... The cheese was bad. I ordered from Grub Hub so I called and asked them for a refund but when they contacted Cafe Luigi they refused to give me a refund... I could have gotten really sick. Grub Hub gave me my money back because they have good costumer service...can't say the same for Cafe Luigi... Still thinking about calling the health department, it was very obvious to me that the cheese was bad, it had to be clear to them as well. Not going to order again. :/
(1)Wayne H.
I love me some deep dish, but every once in a while you crave the NY thin crust that you can fold up and stuff in your mouth. This is definitely the place to get your fix. I always test a pizza joint by ordering a single slice of cheese. Only way to know if its a really good pie. I think what makes the pizza stand out here is the sauce. This pizza doesn't need tons of toppings or other fanciness to give it flavor. All the flavor you could need is right in the sauce! I went to NY recently to see if they could beat Cafe Luigi and I still gotta say, Luigi's is my personal favorite. Chicago ROCKS! Loses 1 star because I want Luigi's at 3AM!
(4)Robert B.
This is the most authentic NY style in the city (for thin crust, I like Barnaby's the most),but it's admittedly not NY, grease dripping, triangular folding with one hand to use as gesturing device). This is about as close as you can get. Ordering it is tough because the effective lifespan in the car is so short - probably need to reheat for a few minutes to make sure you get the true experience.
(5)Jen B.
YUM! I am so excited I found a tasty pizza by the slice joint in my neighborhood. Pick out the slice you want and they warm it up in the oven so it's nice and fresh. After I was done eating, I was plotting the next time I could go. There are about 10 small tables in there so you could eat there if you'd like, but it's definitely very casual. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because this is my first NYC pizza place to try in the city so I have nothing to compare it too!
(4)Megan G.
Best New York Style Pizza in Chicago. So cheesy and good!! Perfect kind of pizza to fold. This is my new favorite delivery place in Chicago! The garlic knots are great too and extremely cheap!
(5)Sasha R.
I'm really surprised by how many stars this place has. I LOVE pizza, Chicago and NY style, and I lived right around the corner for a year and could not recall the name of this place. That is how unremarkable it is. Yeah it's cheap, but slices of pizza usually are. The few times I went in I was really looking forward to maxing out, but what I received seemed like it had been out all day. It was dry, stale, and I did not even finish it. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED IN THE HISTORY OF THE SORDID AFFAIR BETWEEN SASHA R. AND NEW YORK STYLE PIZZA. Oh no, now I'm one of those people that refers to themselves in third person :(
(2)Pat S.
My poor wife has been searching in vain for NYC-style pizza ever since I moved out of the city a few years back, but now she's finally found it near our place in Chicago. Word. Cafe Luigi is a good option if you want either a slice or a whole pie. I like how the crust turns out, and their sauce is just the right balance of sweet, salty and acidic. They overdid it a bit on the mushrooms, but if you like enormous piles of mushrooms then you'd probably love it. Otherwise, a solid pick if you want that Queens feel. (Most people say Brooklyn, but having lived in the Q for several years, I most definitely represent Queens and was not raised down Brooklyn.)
(4)Kathy P.
If I were a "Saved by the Bell" character, I would've ditched the Max for Luigi's. Did you ever notice how no one at the Max ate anything? What was that all about? Maybe it had something to do with having to fit in all that neon spandex. This would not be the case at Luigi's. I had the deep dish with spinach and mushrooms, despite the raves about the thin crust. It was light and crusty, as opposed to the dense, doughy, Giardano's-style pizza Chicagoans typically call deep dish. I also had a taste of the New York style thin crust, which was topped with just the right amount of sweet sauce and melty cheese. Great variety of toppings to choose from, as well as different pizza styles -- calzones, stromboli, breadsticks.
(3)Rosie S.
I love myself some good pizza by the slice and this place has it! If you are looking for some greasy, shouldn't be eating, pizza, you should come here. It's perfect to cure any hangover. It's nothing fancy, but does the job. They have thin crust, stuffed and some specialty pizza rolls. I also recommend the pepperoni sticks...yum!! Staff not the friendlies, but whatever, as long as they give my food--I am a happy camper.
(4)Dana D.
Seriously, Yelpers, you let me down. Maybe I should have just sucked it up and gotten the NY Style pizza, but really, why should I sacrifice my need for a thick, crunchy crust? I don't know what kind of deep-dish pizza I ordered, but it had crumbled cheese on top that looked like feta but tasted like feet. The crust was okay, but there wasn't any sauce on the pizza and the cheese tasted super bland, and, like I said, foot-like. My boyfriend was equally unimpressed. He ordered a spinach calzone, which looked like a calzone, but, strangely enough, tasted like feet too. The crust was soggy and there was little sauce inside. Blech. The only redeeming element of our meal was the pizza breadstick, which was nice and crusty with pepperonis on the inside. It tasted like a breadstick with pepperonis inside, too! Also, you get free refills on pop. So that's a bonus too. But really, I can't get behind a pizza place run by rude Eastern Europeans/Russians. I'd much rather have Domino's - at least I know what I'm getting.
(2)Bharat S.
Pizza is good, but the service is one of the worst things ive ever had to deal with. I ordered delivery, and first off the man who answered the phone was incredibly rude and unpleasant to deal with. I said my pizza will be here in an hour. One hour + later, I call back and the same guy answers. I ask him where my pizza will be, he says its very busy and will be here 30 minutes. I understand if you are busy, and it takes a while to get stuff out. BUt then the guy who answered just hung up, no apology or anything. I dont expect much, but the guy was a complete ass.
(1)Hanna S.
Sometimes, no matter how sophisticated your pallette is, you just need something dripping with grease to feed a craving. Cafe Luigi delivers (both figuratively and metaphorically). If you're looking for fancy pizza with over the top toppings, head down the street for a few more blocks to Homemade Pizza. Cafe Luigi is simple: bread, a sliver of sauce and cheese. The staff isn't all that great, and sure aren't all that friendly, but the pizza speaks for itself. Slices are very cheap too.

Very disappointed. I went there today for lunch hoping for some New York-style pizza like I remember growing up in Brooklyn. Nope. This isn't it. Arrived about 11:30am. All of the food was already made and laid out. Whole pizzas with slices missing, the cheese all congealed like they were yesterday's pizzas that spent the night in the cooler. I guess they were going to microwave last night's pizza for today's lunch customers? No way I'm going to eat old food, so I asked for a calzone but with an pepperoni added. The girl behind the counter said I couldn't have it, that all the food was already cooked and they can't make any more. I told her I only eat fresh food, not old food, and so I left and found another place on Clark to eat. For those of you who are from Chicago -- New York-style pizza is made fresh right before your eyes. It is not frozen. It is not cooked the night before, or even in the morning, and then reheated. If it's not made while you watch, it's not worth eating. Walk away. I'd rather eat the fresh tomato quiche that's called "Chicago pizza" than the used food from this place.

As good as it gets in Chicago. I don't get why there aren't at least 10 more Cafe Luigi quality NY style pizza joints scattered throughout the city. No high tech equipment or dough tossing pizza makers. Just a few hard working family members behind the counter. Wish these guys would open another shop near the loop.
(5)Matt M.
Cheap Pizza, convenient location, middle of the road quality. There is nothing especially good or bad about this place. If you are hungry and you see it, go for it. But I would never make any special efforts getting this pizza.
(3)Kara B.
Depending, of course, on the kind of pizza you like -- Luigi's is the best pizza in the city of Chicago. How I lament its loss from my life. (I lost custody in a breakup since he lives closer -- URGH!) No Delivery is a huge bummer. And so is the fact that it closes at 10pm?!?! I mean seriously?? I always want pizza after ten. A note on the employee and owner before I get down to how amazing the pizza is -- I am pretty sure it is a Russian father daughter team since I have only ever seen the two of them working behind the counter and he is always reading Russian newspapers when I come in. They can be a little gruff when they are busy, but the rest of the time they are pretty awesome and make an effort to get to know their regulars. They definitely enhance the experience. But on to the more important part: the FOOD! The whole pies are much better than the slices but they are both great. They are very New York style -- big slices with lots of cheese and plenty of GREASE! hehehe. They still manage to make the crust crispy and delicious though. Man, I have to stop writing this review before I start unconsciously heading there after work.
(5)Chris L.
Good pizza. Pretty darn close to NYC style pies.
(5)George P.
Real NY/NJ/Philly style pizza. They've nailed my childhood pizza. In the mid-90s I had relatives carry pizza on planes to me from the East Coast. Since finding Cafe Luigi that has been unnecessary. Simon, the owner/operator is wonderful -- sweet, kind, always happy to see you. His wife is the same. They have one worker (a youngish eastern European girl with a pretty consistent sour look on her face) that has generated some bad yelp reviews with her rude behavior. My guess is her days are numbered. In any case, the pizza is good and if you have problems with her I would suggest letting management know about it. It is great having a place where the pizza comes in slices that you fold to eat...
(5)Adam H.
Maybe I need to try some of their other pizzas before I review this place, but based on my first experience, I do not really want to. My wife and I ordered a simple pepperoni and mushroom pizza, and were disappointed to find that the mushrooms they used were canned mushrooms and they used a lot of them. It made the pizza taste like metallic old mushrooms. Does this speak to the quality of the rest of their ingredients? I won't be finding out.
(1)Annie S.
YUM. Best NY style pizza in Chicago.
(5)Chris C.
One of the few places in Lincoln Park (if not the only) that serves New York Style pizza by the slice. Their pizza is pretty good too, better than the standard Sbarro stuff. Staff is also very nice and its nice to support a local business once in a while.

Love it!

So, I moved to Chicago from NYC 6 years ago and there are three things (food-wise) I miss most - PIZZA, bagels, and Chinese food. The latter two are impossible to find in Chicago and the former was until I stumbled upon Cafe Luigi a few years ago. I used to have to fly 2 hours to get great pizza, now it was only a $10 cab ride from the Gold Coast. I'm not a big fan of LP, but sometimes a good movie would be playing at Landmark and it gave us an excuse to go up that way and stop at Luigi's. We also found they would deliver. Subsequently, we moved a bit further south - into the Loop and surprisingly they STILL delivered. UNTIL. THAT. ONE. FATEFUL. DAY when the lady said it was too far away. I've since tried to fool them by calling every month or so and nonchalantly saying where I live but it doesn't slip by them unnoticed, so alas, I have to go to LP every once and a while. However, the food - because likely you, thy reader are more inclined to care about their pizza than my delivery scams - its far and away the closest thing to great NY pizza anywhere in this entire city. Its greasy, cheese and sauce are authentic (at least I have to pretend they are since I cant fly to NY every single time I want a slice). They have great pepperoni stuffed breadsticks and make a nice house salad as well. The place itself is run down, old, and hot - and that is why I fucking love it. A little slice of NY in the Midwest.
(4)Reese F.
Sadly, the past three times I've visit Cafe Luigi's I've been sorely disappointed... The by-the-slice selection seems to have dwindled to a sparse couple of options and my recent slices have been greasy and soggy. We've had better luck order whole pies and I think that's probably the only way we'll eat Luigi's in the future. Not sure what's going on but I think I'll get my slice elsewhere.
(2)Sara P.
I can't believe I haven't written a review sooner about this pizza place. Cafe Luigi is my absolute go-to for delivery, and they never disappoint. You see, I am not a Chicago style pizza fan, and while the "thin crust" pizzas made in this city are typically okay, I am a firm believer that the only real pizza out there is New York style....and in this city, I think Cafe Luigi's is about as close as it gets. Their pizza is a bit pricey- my last delivery for a medium pizza, two breadsticks, and a side salad came to $28. This isn't Domino's, that's for sure. The breadsticks are awesome- they come with pepperoni and cheese stuffed inside. The side salad was also nice sized- enough for two of us to share. While I've never actually eaten at their restaurant, this is a great place for delivery.
(4)Sam P.
Gotta start by saying that I'm a deep dish guy, but Cafe Luigi has some of the best thin-crust I've ever tasted. Also love this place's italian beef, they melt cheese and herbs over the whole sandwich... I pretty much get it every single Sunday.
(4)Abby M.
I love this place. I went about once a week when I lived near here and now I only get over there about once a month, if that. I always get the exact same thing: a slice of pepperoni pizza and a bread stick (filled with pepperoni and comes with a side of fresh marinara sauce). Prices are cheap and the staff is usually friendly. Like others have stated - pretty small place but great for quickly inhaling a slice of pizza. It's thin crust and the amount of cheese and sauce on each slice of pizza is perfect (and they're huge slices). Definitely my favorite place in Chicago to grab a slice of pizza.
(5)Daniel H.
So I guess I'll add to the pile of reviews. Preface: I do prefer NY style pizza in general BUT I do enjoy and appreciate deep dish. As any pizza connoisseur knows, to judge pizza, you need to have just plain cheese, no toppings. The cheese is fantastic, gooey, tangy salty, enough but not too much grease. The dough is good, a crisp in the crust but not like a dry cracker. There's one flaw! Others here have pointed it out already so I'll just reiterate it. There's too little sauce! Before I tried this place I thought to myself, "these yelp reviewers are silly." But it turns out they're right. There is hardly any sauce between the cheese and the dough. There's more on the menu to try of course, but pizza is the focal of course. I had a calzone as well. It wasn't bad, but I've had better. All in all, it's fine if you're walking through as street traffic, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. Honestly, it deserves 3.5 stars... but alas, they don't get a round up from me...
(3)Kate A.
I love this pizza!! Once moving to this neighborhood I decided to try this spot out on a whim and now it is one of my weekly addictions! For less than $5 a slice, you will have a delicious slice of thin crust pizza with spicy sausage (or whatever topping you want) and melty cheese. Sooo delicious!!
(5)Sarah L.
just ordered from Cafe Luigi for the first time and I'm a fan. I'm new to Chicago and have been missing the chewy floppy goodness of new york style pizza. I like the Chicago-style thin crust, and am not a ny pizza snob, but I love a good, chewy finish at the end of my slice. Cafe Luigi met my need and did not disappoint with my large cheese pie. I was also pleasantly surprised by the tossed side salad - lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and green olives with a light vinaigrette. the dressing choices were "ranch" and "italian" - so I was surprised that the dressing was so light and delicious. delivery took 40 minutes from the time I called - although to be fair I live a block away. I will definitely be ordering from here again.
(4)steve w.
I've been here a little over 6 months. It is the closest thing to NY style pizza around and sure beats anything on Taylor Street with the exception of Tuscany authentic Neopolitans. I just ordered a cheese slice for a bite late in the afternoon since I skipped out on lunch. It did the trick! The best pizza though if you should ever go to NY is a place in Hoboken, NJ across from Manhattan called Pete Tudino's "Home of the Biggest Slice". It rocks!
(4)Glenn D.
Ok, so i called up to place an order for a tasty NY style pizza and I asked how far South they delivered... the guy on the phone told me madison ... i live close to Chicago Ave and close to the lake but he told me that my street was too far South.... hmmm.... (I don't think he recognised my street even though i told him the exact location) It even mentions on menupages the delivery zones are Irving Park to Madison St and the Lake to Damen... chicago.menupages.com/re… I write my first review frustrated and hungry!!

5 star pizza, 1 star delivery. Luigi's pizza is my favorite New York style pie in Chicago. The crust is a little charred, a little chewy, and definitely foldable. Big floppy pizza slices with minimal toppings is exactly what I'm looking for in a NY pizza, and Luigi's gets it on the money. I love it topped with eggplant or mushrooms (I wish they had anchovies!). Unfortunately the delivery is no where near as good as the pizza. Just about every time we order they quote us a time and come at least 15 minutes later, sometimes more. One time we were told it would come in an hour and it took over 2 hours. Every time I called they told me it would be there in 5 minutes. Finally I called and got upset with the owner and he offered us 5 bucks off the pizza. The pizza box has come crushed a couple times, and they frequently singe the receipt which is fine, but kind of annoying since they make me sign a blank piece of paper (I can't believe this has happened more than once, you'd think they'd figure it out). If their pizza wasn't so good we wouldn't bother, but quality is king. Whenever we order now we just assume it will come late and plan accordingly. We've never been disappointed when the pizza actually did arrive, so I guess we're slaves to their crappy delivery.
(4)Brent W.
ok, so the yelper's have praised this place for serving up authentic NY syle pizza...hmm, it was ok but to me, it fell a bit short. The crust was a little too hard to be 'foldable' and the sausage, which was actually pretty tasty, looked more like diced up hamburger; again, i found this to be a plus and it was good. The sauce was good but severely lacking, essentially it made for a fairly "dry" slice of pizza. I also ordered a side salad w. italian dressing. If you happen to love, and I mean *love*, green olives (tons of them), sliced cucumbers, a massive amount of jalapeo peppers, fair amount of green peppers, onions, onions and more onions, cold mozz cheese, mozz cheese and did I mention, mozz cheese, then you'll really like this "salad". I did eventually find the lettuce underneath the mad cornucopia of garden veggies and it was decent, just not my cuppa, if you will. Will I be back ?...it's possible but not probable.

We've been looking for a New York style pizza in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area for quite a while now. Enter Cafe Luigi's. By far our favorite pizza joint that we have tried and I think it's safe to say our search is over! C.L.'s thin crust pizza has a thin floppy body with a traditional round chewy crust. Light on the tomato sauce and heavy on the cheese. Our pizza was perfectly greasy and cooked to perfection. We'll be back...soon!
(5)Ashley C.
I love Chicago, but when it comes to pizza, I'm a New York style girl all the way. Cafe Luigi is by far the best NY style pizza in the midwest, and my personal favorite in all of Chicago. The crust is thin and never soggy and the ingredients always taste fresh. If you stop in for a slice you'll experience a quaint hole in the wall diner which is always clean with fast service. Not always overly friendly, but the staff is polite. You will absolutely not regret giving Luigi's a try...although you may become hooked!
(5)Laura H.
Good New York style pizza.....very small place .
(3)Anemone T.
NY thin slice was just what I was looking for. Thick crust did not have a good ratio of cheese to bread, too much like a piece of thick toast. Didn't like that they microwaved the pizza... maybe microwaved followed by oven, but nonetheless, it's a bad idea. Liked the older gentleman behind the counter, and the quiet low-key atmosphere, but did not like the TV with news on. Would go back to try other things.

Short review: go to Gigos instead. Even the Chicago Gigos is better (vs Evanston) than this place. Long review: I was looking for some tasty NY pizza and saw the good reviews about this place so I figured I would give it a try. The first red flag was the "extra delivery charge" because I lived "too far away". I live 3.5 mi - about 11 mins away. So I paid a little more for delivery (I don't mind paying more for the good stuff). After a little more than an hour I got the pizza, 18" cheese for about $30. All I can say is that there is nothing great about this place. The crust was extremely tough on the outside, and basically raw in the center. The toughness of the crust was what made this a bad pizza, not the sogginess. The cheese was mediocre. The sauce was also mediocre, yet at the same time the best part of the pizza. Maybe it's better if you go in to get a slice? I will stick to gigos for NY style pizza. Like I said even the gigo's in the city is better than Cafe Luigi.
(2)Jo W.
I still love this place more than any pizza place in Chicago, and it totally saved my life today. That is all.
(5)Alison E.
Really, really good pizza! Definitely the kind of pizza I was looking for (read: New York style). Totally psyched to find another place with mostly-authentic NY pizza in Chicago.
(5)Reid G.
This place is just great. The old Russian [I think Russian] couple that run it are nice, the food is good, filling and reasonable priced. Pretty decent for NYC pizza, especially in Chicago, i would suggest going there for any real pizza fan, just to give it a try. Also try their calzones, they are pretty solid
(4)Mary S.
I can hear the man answer the phone perfectly in my head. Him - Cafe Luigi. me - I want to order a pizza for pick up. Him - Yeeeeesssss? me - medium pepperoni him - name? and so it goes. a conversation with one of the most important men in my life - the man who takes my order at Cafe Luigi. I'm not a fan of Chicago style pizza. I was when I lived in Florida, but now that I live in Chicago, it's rather blech. I will ONLY order pizza from Cafe Luigi. Yes, that means driving from the tip top of Edgewater all the way to LP. I'm fine with that. It's worth it. Soft yet crispy crust. Gooey cheese. Flavorful pepperoni. What more could a girl ask for? I would not really suggest dining in unless you're just getting a slice. It's usually fairly busy, so it's not the most relaxing place to dine in. Get takeout, be on your way and enjoy that greasy, cheesy deliciousness known as Cafe Luigi.
(4)Daniel C.
Excellent, authentic NY style pizza. Probably not the absolute best in the entire city, but who cares? Slices are cheap and huge and always good. Pay no heed to the grumpy old man behind the counter...he means well.
(5)Julia F.
love love love love love!! my favorite pizza in chicago. i recently moved outside of delivery range of cafe luigi (sad) and now i drive to go pick it up. SO worth it.
(5)Edward P.
New York style pizza. Greasy, thin, floppy, delicious. By the slice. What more do you need to know?
(4)Jeff C.
As long as I've lived in Chicago, I've been searching for good thin-crust pizza. After years of searching and trying "Chicago's best thin-crust pizza", I realized that I'd been looking for the wrong thing. I didn't want merely thin crust. I wanted NY-style. You see, Chicago has its own thin-crust style. It's a cracker crust that's cut into squares. Bleh. I want big, floppy wedges that are paper thin. Now, after years of searching for NY-style pizza in Chicago, I believe Cafe Luigi may be the best I'm going to find. Eating there reminds me of summers spent in NY, eating pizza and calzones at the local restaurant. This is what thin-crust pizza should be. And the spinach roll. I hadn't even realized I'd been missing them until I had one. Yum. It takes me 30 minutes to drive there and I have to pay obscene prices to park, but it's worth every minute/penny for my taste of NYC.
(5)Jim S.
If Cafe Luigi wasn't in Chicago, they'd get 5 stars. However, that said, the pizza is damn good. I lived around the corner so I'd go often. You get a good sized slice for around $4, and it's tasty. Very authentic NY Style pizza. Not much else can be said, I'm a fan of Cafe Luigi.
(4)Dave K.
After reading the other reviews here, i had to try it and it definitely didnt disappoint! I'm born and raised here love deep dish but have a secret crush on a good flimsy slice of new york style pizza. When i ordered the girl said 25 minutes i should up in about 20 and my pizza was just coming out of the oven, i was a little disappointed they didn't deliver to the south loop but i wasnt really expecting them to, i would definitely recommend cafe luigi to anyone who is looking for true new york style pizza
(5)Joe L.
I'm not a huge Chicago style pizza fan. It's not bad, I like it, just not my favorite. I grew up on NY style pizza so it makes sense. My dad came from overseas and the first person he met upon arriving in the States was a Sicilian who opened up a NY style pizza joint back in Ohio where I grew up. I've been hunting for a decent NY slice here in Chicago for a while and this past Friday, I finally found it. I was really impressed with their slices, so much so that I put them right behind my old stand-by in Ohio. It folds perfect, not TOO greasy, and the slices are huge. I got 2 slices and a regular drink for $7. That beats the heck out of paying $20+ for the mediocre whole pies in this town (I'm unimpressed with Chicago pizza thus far, still need to do some more sampling). The gals who work up front are really nice and all in all, this was a great experience. It's a new stand-by and I'm thrilled I stumbled upon this place. Parking is a bit of a mess but you can't have it all, right? Do yourself a favor and stop down for a slice. You won't be disappointed!
(5)Emily K.
Pretty good slice of pepperoni pizza. Really, really greasy (and normally I don't care about grease at all, so this is saying something) but nothing a few napkins couldn't blot up. Decently priced too. Only complaint was that it seemed a bit dry, like there wasn't enough sauce on the pizza. I don't know that I've ever complained about that. There was only one girl working the counter and the phones, which were ringing off the hook. I felt bad for her and she was nice enough but never acknowledged me after she took 2 phone calls while I stood there and walked away from the register to deal with other people's orders. Not looking for the welcome mat, but just some acknowledgement that she's aware I'm standing there would have been nice. I'll come back again because it's on my way to work and I was totally satisfied with my lunch but I don't think I'd travel far distances or miss it if I never were to return.
(3)Bada Bing L.
Ayyyy ayyyy, bada bing bada boom. PIZZA!
(4)Justin K.
Best NY style pizza this side of the Hudson. Remnds me of home - I go there at least once a week
(5)Derek M.
I've been eating here for eight years and I'm not stopping anytime soon. This is hands down the best slice of NYC style pizza in the entire City of Chicago! I eat here two to three times a week and have for nearly a decade. The service is always slow, the prices are creeping up a bit high and there is one man who works there who wouldn't smile at you if his life depended on it, but this pizza is wicked fabulous! This is not a late night pizza place! It closes before 11:00 p.m. I think it closes at 10:00.
(5)Courto G.
Only ordered delivery so I can't speak to the dining-in experience. Pizza arrived in 20 minutes! Delivery guy was extremely nice. Pizza was hot, fresh, and was as good as anything I had in NYC. Helpful hint - do not order more than one or two toppings. They are extremely generous with them. More then two toppings and the pizza is LOADED.
(4)Mark F.
Our self-imposed break from Luigi's is over. No matter how flaky the service, the pizza is just too damn good. Service still isn't great.
(4)Eldiva S.
Pretty good NY style pizza in Chicago! Regular size - not too thick or thin, chewy crust - tasty bread. Slightly tangy sauce and yummy cheese-it works! One thing- I found it was a tad too cheesy for my taste since I enjoy a 50/50 cheese & sauce ratio-but it was still good and I would absolutely get this again : ) I would definitely recommend this place for NY style- it's not perfect, but its close enough around these parts! Best I have found so far and I will be back... Enjoy!
(4)P F.
Best Pizza I've had in Chicago. Ok, I'm not a big fan of Chicago Pizza in general so it's not a monumental statement. Still Caf Luigi has some good eats. If I were to become a fatty, I'd want this places pizza to be my second chin. It's not too thick, the crust is just the right amount of tender, the toppings are flavorful, it's greasy and just plain good. I never actually ordered delivery from this place, but I can say it tastes just fine the next day which is a good sign. I no longer live in Lincoln Park and this is one of the spots I miss most. For those of you in range, I say go here if you're willing to pay too much for pizza. It's worth it...unless you're very poor. Then it's a rip-off. Those in the middle? Splurge an extra $10 and rid yourselves of the chains.
(4)Tina M.
Cafe Luigi is dangerously close to my apartment. Seriously, it is so freaking good. The first time I ordered from them I thought $13 for a small cheese pizza was kinda expensive. Then I opened the pizza box and realized that "small" apparently means ginormous. I had tons of leftovers. I always get a plain cheese pizza and I always feel happy afterwards (not to mention full). I also like the huge slices they serve which taste fresh, unlike some pizza joints, where you can tell the slices have been in the warmer for days. My only complaints are that the breadsticks have pepperoni inside and I'm vegetarian, and they are not open late enough! If they followed Molly's Cupcakes example and stayed open until midnight, they would do SO much business (mostly from me probably)!
(4)chad l.
Awful delivery. Over 2.5 hours when quoted 1 hour.
(2)Nicole C.
I recently went back to Cafe Luigi, feeling an insatiable, "cycle" related need for pizza. Pizza by definition, having gluten, tomatoes (damn you evil nightshades!) and lots of cheese, is one of the foods I'm supposed to avoid. Therefore if I'm going to eat it, I have to feel that it's worth the negative skin reactions it may cause. So I was bitterly disappointed when I came back to Luigi's and found the crust to be much too white/undercooked, with not the right chewiness factor at all. The flavor was ok but for me texture is vital to NY pizza. I hope it was just an off day. If not, someone else is going to need to fill in the void of NYC style pizza in Chicago.
(2)Cymen V.
Great NY style pizza that won't break the bank. The menu doesn't mention it but they do have pineapple.
(4)E M.
This is the closest thing I've found to NYC pizza since I left the East Coast. The joint even looks like a pizza dive, but cleaner. Owners are nice, let you sit as long as you want, and the experience of savoring the big slices is heavenly. Order cheese: It's all you need. The last time I went, it was less fresh than I remember. Don't let me down, Luigi! I'm so glad you're here!!
(4)Josh H.
As a native New Yorker, I have been trying to find NY Style Pizza ever since I moved to Chicago. This place lives up to its billing. The crust is just the right thickness and consistancy. While I do enjoy Chicago Style Pizza as well, it is just nice to have the pizza you grew up with. Closest thing to Ray's in the Chicago area I would have to say.
(5)Maureen G.
When you are in Chicago but in the mood for some NY style pizza, stop in Cafe Luigi, Lincoln Park. It is a small place with just a few tables. You will eat your single slice or whole pizza off of a paper plate and you will like it! The crust in thin and chewy, no cracker with sauce on it here. Service is not overly friendly, but they can slap me in the face as long as they give me my pizza pie. Fold your slice and forget your fork, this is no wet, sloppy, 10 pound, Chicago-style pie.
(4)Steve L.
As a New Yorker, I'm tough to please on certain foods: Bagels, Deli, and Pizza. I have yet to find a bagel place to suit my needs (though Chicago Bagel Authority has come close), and thankfully I found Eppy's Deli for my sandwich and Dr. Brown fixations, but only when I moved into my new apartment did I discover the sexiness that is Cafe Luigi. I admit, their strombolis are a bit heavy, and their "thick" slice pizza (I hesitate to call it deep dish) is alright, but when it comes to New York style thin crust, no place is better than Luigi. 5 stars for that alone.
(5)Donovan H.
I recommend the calzone or stromboli. Both have been satisfying. Also good place for a quick piece of pizza. The place is small and simple but holds its own. The service is decent. I will be back until I find something better.
(4)Kyle P.
Don't sleep on this place. Highly recommend ordering NOT the reheated by-the-slice version but rather a fresh, whole pie. It's the tastiest thin crust I've found living on the north side (LP, Lakeview, Uptown) for just over four years now. My wife and have crammed in an entire 18" family-size pizza in one night on several occasions... IT'S JUST THAT GOOD.
(4)Andrew H.
Stopped in late on a Sunday with a penchant for pizza. We went with the intent to buy a whole pie, but ended up just going with the slice selections available. An interesting slice of salad pizza with spinach, tomato, and ricotta, and a basic slice of cheese for her, and a slice of stuffed meat and a sausage slice for me (ok fine, I had a cannoli, too, so what?!). This is no-frills NY pizza. Dab off a little grease wit a napkin, fold the slice down the middle, and eat it. The crust is tasty with a nice chew, and all the ingredients seem pretty fresh (we're not talking organics or farm to pizza, but still decent stuff). Not a destination, but will definitely be going back from time to time.
(3)Raj B.
The pizza is not the same but still above average than other NYC style pizza joints hence 2stars. However, they have finally convinced me that they don't care about their customers, only making money. I brought a friend from outta town who wanted a sausage slice but didn't see any so we asked. The girl asked in the back & then said they are not making any for the night, so he went with pepperoni. While we are eating, she puts out a fresh sausage pie. When I confronted her she replied with a grin, I didn't know. This has happened before. They have no respect for their patrons! I am done giving my business to them.
(2)Jon B.
The food is still very good here but they have really gotten a handle on their customer service. The employees they have working now are very friendly and pleasant, it really makes the whole experience so much better. Delivery is better also although they still have a $25 minimum which is way too high if you ask me. Thumbs up!!
(4)Miguel Q.
Terrible... The pizza is mehhhh... The sauce is mehhh.... The toppings are mehhhhh.... Service sucks cock and balls... Get rid of the attitude-filled, solemn cashier.... What is with these businesses that post a foreign girl up front, thinking that they will be cool for doing so... Hire Americans for a change, I have a deep seeded feeling this pizza place is Russian or Ukrainian-owned.... Pizza sucked, and was very dry.... Needless to say, I am never ever going back to this slovenly pig-pit...
(1)Fedai F.
After reading about Garlic knots, I decided to stop in. Few minutes later we left empty handed. The garlic knots didn't look appealing, super tiny. The pizza looked old. Nothing great so we left and walked to Pasta Bowl.
(1)Joseph T.
Great NYC style pizza! Highly recommended for a quick slice of pizza
(5)Sonia B.
Walked in here around 10:00 PM on a Friday night. Needed a quick bite to eat before grabbing some dessert at a location next door. The pizza wasn't bad. It is reheated and I was wondering what it tasted like fresh. They had your typical options; sausage, pepperoni, cheese, and combination. I guess I haven't frequented many other NY style pizza joints here in the city, so I don't have much to compare it to (aside from pizza in NY), but it wasn't bad.
(3)avi n.
The thick pizza was terrible. I would not call it "deep dish", it was just thick. Basically it was just the same amount of sauce and cheese as you would expect on a skimpy thin crust pizza, but with LOTS OF EXTRA flavorless bread. If I could have shaved off the bottom 75% of the pizza it would have been OK. Instead it was significantly more expensive than the thin crust pizza and barely edible. Doubt this place can survive for much longer.

Everytime I visit Chicago, I make sure to grab me a slice if a whole pie. I Love this place!!

Works when you are drunk and you don't care how good the pizza tastes. We ordered a veggie pizza and meat and they weren't as good as we hoped for the price we paid

Great pizza. Great price. No frills. Except you know, the great fucking pizza, and the soda in a can.

Hear ye hear ye.......best pizza and salad combo in the City. Ordered delivery of a major amount of food for visiting family and friends........all were pleased and it was a great outcome once again. Love the crust, sausage, cheese-thin is the best. I do order a stromboli or the thin stuffed once in a while as an alternative. Thank you CL's for being here and keeping it real!

Every once in a while, I'll stop in for lunch at Luigi's to get my fix of thin crust, New York style pizza. The woman behind the counter is always friendly and quick when it comes to preparing your slices and taking payment. The food is good; not great, but good. It's reheated on an order by order basis, so I'm not sure what it tastes like fresh. Texture was good, but the flavor is lacking (sauce). I'd go back, but that's not saying much since Luigis has little competition for pizza in the neighborhood. If there were other pizzerias, I'm sure they'd step up their game and consistently produce some mouth-watering pies!

Pretty good NY style pizza! I was born and raised in NY and my parents own a pizza place in the Chicago suburbs that serve NY style pizza. So I'm trying to find some good NY style pizza in the city. This is pretty close I think! The crust is great. Didn't love the sausage but it was okay. I did not like the cannoli and I also did not like the garlic knots but the pizza is good!!

Terrible...we recently ordered a pizza from Luigi's and had the worst delivery experience in years. Delivery took about an hour. The driver called us asking why we weren't buzzing him in--perhaps because he was at the wrong building. Eventually he made it to our place but he didn't have enough change. Fine, it's a cold day and it's only a few bucks. Well, the pizza was cold and tipped over on the side and the cheese spilled over the crust onto the side of the box. So look, I get that sometimes my pizza gets jacked up in transit--it's part of the unwritten social contract we have with pizza delivery joints. But any time I've had this happen to me before, the store has been willing to deliver a new pizza. Not at Luigi's--they refused to deliver a new pizza and then gave us a hard time when we asked for a refund. When he returned--after another hour--he brought his manager who had been hassling us when my wife called before. No apology but instead they inspected the pizza in front of me like I had tampered with it. Poor delivery, insulting treatment, and overpriced for the quality--I'd recommend you pass on Luigi's.

Great pizza. I've ordered from Luigi's for what seems like 20 years....very good New York style slices which are the best. Having just moved back home to Chicago after 3 years of living in frenetic New York...I do know what I'm talking about regarding the quality of their pizzas. Thanks Luigi's for serving great slices here in the heart of the Great Lakes region without all of the excessive activity that the east coast offers...SCORE!!!

I have always loved New York style pizza, and after living in multiple states and trying hundreds of places that claim to make NY style pizza, Cafe Luigi is the closest I've found to the real thing. But their pizza isn't just for those looking for a particular style. It's a great pizza, period.

I am a native New Yorker who was traded to Chicago several years ago. Since 2011, I have looked far and near for something that resembled an authentic NY slice. Tonight my friends, that search has concluded. Thank you Luigi s for making and delivering a first class, delicious pizza. I will be back for more.

Best NY slice in Chicago. Highly recommended for those who can't make it out to Brooklyn and grab a slice at Joes.

This place is so good. As soon as you walk in you can smell it. This is legit ny pizza in Chicago, not just some gimmick. It's small but fine if you're just stopping in for a slice. I wish I could eat here everyday. Best thin crust in the city.

Real NY style pizza. Thin sliced and lots of cheese. Soooo good. I recommend a simple slice of pepperoni. Nom nom

One of my guilty pleasures is cheap, by-the-slice, walk-in and go pizza. I had a thin-slice pizza here (I've discovered I don't like Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, sometimes I feel like I'm eating pie or quiche). The crust was thin but sturdy and not greasy, though a little doughy. The toppings were generous and fresh. The sauce was a bit bland for my taste, I prefer it generous and tangy (roast them tomatoes!) There was just the right amount of cheese. After the slice and a pop I was quite full! The restaurant has that small-diner feel, a TV in the background and a small, clean dining area that will seat at least 20. The staff were polite. I'd go back in a pinch.
