Born and raised in Colorado, I've had my share of craft beer. Begyle is hands down the best brewery I've ever been to! There's not a single beer on tap that I don't like, a very difficult thing to accomplish. The people are extremely friendly and the pours are very generous! I highly recommend the Saturday tour!

I want to live here!! The staff knows all you need to know for beer. It's clean, the restrooms are nice, and the prices are low.. Need you anything else?!
(5)j s.
Awesome new brewery! Wide selection of beer styles excellently done. Folks behind the counter are knowledgeable, friendly and free with samples. Their late-ish hours make it easy to get a growler fill after work. The high-tech counterflow growler filler keeps your beer fresh even if you're not going to drink it for a while. Dog-friendly as well - what more could you ask for in a neighborhood brewery?

I am in heaven, I am a huge beer nerd and while on tour in Chicago we came by to taste...every single beer is great! The staff is so friendly and just wants to share their beer with people! Take the tour if you can, grab a growler (it's cheaper here than most places in the city) and share with your friends. My favorite is the Root Cellar, made with sugar beets! Mmmm also, I'm not a huge IPA fan but was totally surprised by the Hophazardly. It's is so good!
(5)Beth M.
I went on their tour a week ago and absolutely loved it. I've been to many brewery tours in many different states and I've never met such a warm, welcoming staff. As a stout and porter girl, I was so happy to see their selection of both of these beers. BUT as someone who hates IPAs .... I love their IPA. I'm so confused with that and everything that I thought I knew, but if I love their IPA that means everything they make is amazing.
(5)Linda S.
Great craft beer entrepreneurs! Currently a growler shop only, but finding their beers on tap more and more throughout the city. They occasionally venture toward edgy beers (such as the rye-based root vegetable collaboration they had when we were there), but there (welcome) focus is familiar styles, well-done. Drop in, try some samples, you will likely leave with a growler (or two)!
(5)Matt G.
Visited here twice now, it needs to be in the regular rotation. Great beers, friendly brewers hanging out that are willing to talk shop, and free samples. Favorite beers are Quagmire, Comb The Desert, Hophazardly, and Imperial Pajamas. Cool modern interior, clean restrooms. If they had some sort of small patio area and could serve beers, i'd never leave (well maybe to hop back & forth with Half Acre). The tasting room is a fun experience, and i'd like to return for a tour sometime this summer.

Joining the Begyle CSB was the best decision I made in 2013. We look forward to going in each month, seeing the owners, chatting and catching up, trying the new stuff (and our favorites), and taking home a growler. Delicious beer, and the friendliest brewers in the biz.
(5)Courtney L.
In search of a Chicago brewery while visiting from Dallas we stumbled upon Begyle via Yelp after discovering that Goose Island was sold out and Half Acre was full...and after touring Begyle we were so glad they were! Beer was delicious and tastings were available before the tour, which itself was easygoing and informative (and they let you break for a new beer). My only regret is that I can't bring a growler back on my carryon!
(5)Jon K.
This place is great. The beer is excellent and the staff is welcoming.
(5)TJ F.
We did the brewery tour and it was a blast. Ale-asyn was our tour guide and she led us through this great little secret spot on Ravenswood. The beers tasted fantastic and we bought a shirt and 2 more glasses before we left. They gave us a sample of their Neighborly stout and now I'm hooked! Cheers to Begyle!
(5)Carlos L.
this place is open on Sundays!!!
(5)Shannon C.
The tap room is now open! (Before it was just pourings, now it is more like a bar... kind of similar to Half Acre). Very cool! Good beer and fair prices. Great addition to the neighboorhood.
(5)KC F.
Great beer and tap room! Definitely a plus that it is dog friendly. I will definitely be back!
(5)David S.
The beer here is REALLY good. Lots of beer on tap to taste and they are not stingy on the samples. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Oh and the growler machine is just cool.
(5)J. Chuck K.
Owners own. Hungover from the previous evening's festivities, two of the three owners, including the head brewer, were there bright and early on a Saturday morning to give a tour. It's a very small operation, so I guess there wasn't anyone that could have given the tour, but having them there gave incredible insight to their operation. For $10 you got 3 generous samples and a complimentary tulip style beer glass. Come take the tour; be wowed by their passion; and drink a couple glasses of Hophazzard and Euchred.
(5)MaryEllen S.
Good beer, friendly folks, and dogs allowed--my kind of neighborhood place! Really like that you can put together your own tasting flight but we ended up just getting small tastes of a few brews and chose our pints from that group. Surprisingly, I really liked the Coffee Tough Guy. Nice coffee flavor at first but by the end of the pint, it was just a nice smooth beer. Good stuff. Gets loud, but hey, keeps the turnover going so you can get a seat. They had the Pizza Guy truck tonight so we got a pie to go for dinner. Excellent. Hope to try the Saturday brewery tour one of these days, too.
(5)Jeanne F.
Went to a Bridal Shower here! Tiny place but very warm and friendly. Touring a brewery is MUCH more fun than the usual shower games! I was fascinated by the tour and all they do to make various brews and control the process exactly. Our guide said that "qualitative and quantitative" testing of each batch is the cornerstone of their excellent micro brews. Apparently "Quantitative testing" does NOT mean seeing how much you can drink before you fall over. It means doing a chemical analysis of the finished brew to see if the various ingredients are balanced correctly. Too bad. I was thinking of applying for a job! But now I think buying their beer is probably more my style. (Not much of a chemist) Planning to take my husband here on our anniversary and letting him choose his own present!

We came here on a sunny Saturday to celebrate my birthday. It's the perfect place to bring a group of people. We arrived early, right at 11:00 when they opened. We each ordered a beer to enjoy while waiting for the rest of our friends to arrive for the tour. Around 11:30, people started lining up for the 12:00 tour. The only downfall is that you can't enjoy a beer while waiting in line for the tour as the line forms outside on the sidewalk (it's not Begyle's fault that there is a law against drinking out there ;-). And remember to bring cash as you will need it for the tour ($10). The tour is great! I have been on lots of brewery tours in Chicago and heard many a description of how beer is made. I really enjoyed the storytelling approach that they use at Begyle. It kept my interest and definitely set them apart from other breweries. They take a couple of breaks for folks to refill their beers and that process moves quickly so no one is left thirsty. I'll definitely be back and I look forward to bringing more friends here as well. Cheers!
(5)Courtney P.
The tap room is minimalist, but comfortable and dog-friendly. They were out of one of the beers on tap, but there were six others to enjoy. Good variety and they offer 5 oz tulips if you want to taste them.
(5)Karen C.
Truth? I'm a sucker for a local beer with a good scripty logo. Even better? Their beer is ridiculously good & the new taproom is the best. So close to my house & so delicious, what's not to love?
(5)S E.
Loved it! Yummy brews and laid back seating area with games scattered about overlooking the brewery. You can order in food, too.
(5)Danielle S.
I came here with my family when they were in town. I wasn't sure what to expect since I had not been here before. I believe I have had their beer, but I had not been to their location. I was hoping we could get a tour, but it looks like that is only on Saturdays. It is definitely off the beaten path. As I was driving through a neighborhood, I was wondering if we were in the right place, but we were! When we walked in, no one was around (except for a cute dog that greeted us). Eventually a guy came around the corner and asked what we wanted. We just wanted to look around and try some beers. We did have a few tastings. They seemed pretty busy and maybe construction, so we didn't stay long. He did say that eventually they were going to have a tap room, so that is something to look forward to! Next time I come back I would go on a Saturday and get the tour.
(3)Michelle C.
We hosted a 40th birthday party for ~75 people at Begyle (new upstairs area) and couldn't have been happier with the hosts and the event space - very cool look, lighting and staff! Everyone had a great time. Of course the beer selection was excellent! Highly recommend.

"It's not really a tour... it's more storytelling..." This is how Mike and Brenden, two of the owners of Begyle Brewing Company, introduced us to the tour. Both Mike and Brenden did a great job of engaging the group during the tour (or "their storytelling") of their Brewery. Our group of four arrived at 11:40am for the Saturday tour at noon to buy our $10 tickets. Arriving early turned out to be a good idea since the secret seems to be getting out about this place and there were several people arriving early to ensure they would get to join the tour. Along with the admission of $10.00 for their brewery tour, you receive a tulip shaped beer glass and three different samples of their beer. And, let it be known that by "sample" they actually mean three full 12 oz. beers to enjoy during your tour. This is a fantastic value if you ask me! I tried the three they had on tap at the time which were the blonde, a stout, and an IPA which is their best seller. All of their beer was of high quality but my personal favorite was their IPA. If you're picky about the beer you'll drink, you didn't have to try each kind and you could just stick with one or two kinds for your tasting. (But, come on, what's the fun in that?!) It may also be useful to know that the beers they had on tap for tasting during our tour were ranging in alcohol content between 5 and 7 percent alcohol (in other words, take the brown line, Uber it, or walk because you may be above the legal driving limit when leaving). After the tour, we we able to sample a few more of the beers that weren't offered during the tour and ended up buying a 32 oz. growler and a six pack to bring home (we seriously loved everything we tasted). The growler was $4.00 for the bottle which you can bring back to get refilled and the beer itself ranged from $8.00-$10.00 depending on what you choose. We will definitely be back to refill our growler when we're craving some delicious and fresh on tap craft beer!

I came by here after a visit to the Half Acre Tap Room. Its only about a ten minute walk from there so I suggest visiting both of these breweries. Begyle offers a tour on Saturdays at noon (the tour at Half Acre is at 11am on Saturdays). I missed out but I sure would like to go on it sometime. The staff here is friendly. Its not a bar perse. They offer small samples of what they have on tap and sell it by the growler (32oz and 64oz and they may have an even larger size). There seemed to be about 10 different brews on tap. I bought a 64oz growler and the container itself is $4 and the fillups seem to range from $12-14. They also offer a limited selection of bottled brews in addition to some t shirts and hoodies.

So over the last year, I have migrated from being a wine drinker to being a fine beer drinker and especially so with the increase in micro Brewers. I have been to the begyle several time, but I'll start off with the first visit. My brother was in town and we wanted to stop by half acre and just tagged the begyle on since it was nearby. After being disappointed that there was no beer garden at half acre.....it was summer after all, we went to the begyle. While this place does not have a beer garden, it is really new and nice to see it grow. They have a Saturday tour for $15 at noon that comes with a glass and two hours of samples. I have never partaken in it but have been there when they do and it looks fun. I primarily come here to get my monthly growler filled as I'm a member of their csb. I have gotten to know the crew and they are all very nice. This is a real up and coming brewery. They have a great display at the new whole foods in streeterville and even have a brew only available there. I think this place will be outgrowing their current digs at some point. They are in the process of building out a tap room which will be nice to enjoy. They cannot currently sell draft beer but offer samples, growler fills, 22 oz bottles and six packs.
(5)Tim S.
Always nice to support the local craft beer scene, and what better way than a tour. When looking for a fun Saturday activity we decided to avail ourselves to their offer. Now as far as tours go this is far more of a story time than anything but still well worth the price of admission. For $10 you get the rundown on the founders and how they came to be partners and then information about the group presently toiling away to make a delicious few brews. Currently they are in the first stages of building out more space to brew more beer AND have a tap room for folks to spend a little time there. Big fan, have stopped by for a growler or so and now the tour. Oh I almost forgot to mention about the pint glass that gets filled 3 times over the course of the tour. Yes that is 3 finely crafted craft brews and a pint glass for $10 and your ears for a little over an hour and a half. Bring your home brew questions, they are happy to answer.
(4)Mark E.
Came here for their tour and will have to say it was the best tour I have been on. Tour started at noon and was $10. They gave you a snifter and three bottle caps which were used as tokens to get 12oz pours of beer. Our tour guides Paul and Brendan were great and very knowledgeable about the beer as well as history of the brewery. After the tour, got to sample a bunch of their beers that you could purchase in 22oz bombers or get 32 or 64oz growlers (only certain beers in bombers) Overall great experience and would recommend to anyone looking to learn more about small community brewing and beer.
(5)David R.
One of the better small breweries in Chicago. Excited to see them grow. Really versatile brewers. The dark, heavy beers are every bit as good as the hoppy IPAs. Tasty stuff, super clean, and right on point stylistically. Samples, select bombers, and growler fills only at the taproom (you can usually find Begyle beer on tap at Fountainhead not too far away). Also, the staff is super nice. Got chatting with one of the brewers which ended up in her giving us an impromptu tour. Fun spot.

I am tickled to discover another outstanding craft brewery in North Center. Long story short, this outfit is still really small but puts out excellent product, and the tour is a wonderful introduction to both the brand and the beer. Like many microbreweries, the Begyle tour is an outstanding value. For a mere ten bucks, you get two hours of entertainment and education, a souvenir 13-ounce tulip glass (bonus: I love their logo), and three pours in that vessel to enjoy during your visit. The tone and format are enjoyably informal, but by the end you will have heard everything that there is to say about the history and operations of the brewery. Our guides were two of the three founders and owners, Matt and Brendan. The three selections available during our visit were the Northern German Altbier (B+), Oh Hey! Porter (B+), and Euchred Midwest IPA (A-). I have been protesting the maniacal hop trend for years and NEVER like an IPA...but Begyle's was really, really, really good. All that plus the opportunity to pet Martin the dog. Time and money well spent on a Saturday afternoon. I'm not much of a growler guy (I don't trust myself not to overconsume) but I will be looking out for the Begyle label on bottles, and when their tap room opens later this year, I will be there. In the meantime, their website has a very detailed list of local bars and restaurants which carry their draft and stores which carry their bottles. PS. How about a bike rack out front, guys?
(4)Joe B.
The beer is great. I could end the review right there. But where this place really shines is it's neighborhood-centric vibe and tasting room. Walking into this brewery rather than, say, Goose Island is like walking into your friendly corner pub rather than Barleycorn. On a Sunday afternoon, there were plenty of seats and a very brief line. There is no bar, it's just a counter from which you purchase beer, growlers, and schwag. Said counter is staffed by people proud of their product and happy to discuss it with you. I highly recommend you make a trip here!
(4)Andrea M.
Great beer, fun people and a laid back atmosphere in the heart of a residential street - adorable!
(5)Tom T.
The place is tucked away in a quiet street. Cards and snacks are comp and the "tough guy" beer which has a coffee flavor is just the trick for the start of a long night or a cure for yesterday's long night.
(5)Darren E.
Great brewery and taproom. A wide range of beers from belgiums, IPAs, and their Bourbon Barrel stout was fantastic. Will be coming back again soon!
(5)Caroline M.
Definitely the best tasting beer of all of the Chicago breweries! Their tap room is awesome (dog friendly!) and they have a great tour on Saturdays. Our favorite place to grab a drink in the neighborhood.
(5)Lauren A.
Very happy this place has a taproom now. They were sold out of 3 or 4 of the beers last weekend which kind of sucked, but only because I'm sure they would have been great if the others were any indication. We tried every beer that was available on tap and I basically have nothing bad to say about any of them. I loved the Tripel, the Pale Ale, and the English Porter the best. Very flavorful and unique tasting. The only drawback to this new taproom is the space itself. I can deal with the small size, but every single door in the place SLAMS shut every time someone walks in or out of it. They seriously need to replace the doors or put signs on them saying "hold door until it closes quietly" because it was seriously awful having to listen to these doors repeatedly slamming super loudly all over the place. I don't mean to sound like an old grandma or something... but it was super annoying. At the end of the day, though, one shows up for the beer.... and the beer was top notch!
(4)Sarah P.
A lovely little neighborhood gem. Very friendly staff, laid back atmosphere, and some seriously good beer. FYI: the new tap room is open so you can just stop by and have a pint, even without taking a tour or having a growler to fill.
(5)Maureen S.
It's true, this place is the best. Always fresh beer on tap with a nice variety of bottles to go as well, friendly service, and flavorful, well priced and handmade beer. Great folks, great products, great location, give them your business.
(5)Greg D.
Excellent fresh beer with a great staff. I'd call it a hidden gem but now the secret is out; The dry hopped IPA was World Class. They nailed it.
(5)Elizabeth B.
Thanks yelpers for leading me to this neighborhood gem. I also, was looking to go to Half Acre for a Saturday tour - my friends and I found this place fit in our Saturday schedule much more easier. Great tour - you will not go thristy. Since discovering this place I've been back several times for growlers. I just wish there were more six packs for purchase.
(5)Gregory M.
This brewery is located in the old woodworking building where Pioneer Logs (Lincoln Logs knockoff) were made. They just received their license for a brew pub to serve on premise three weeks ago which allows you to stay and enjoy the vast selection of beer. The people and the beer are outstanding. I would recommend the 5oz pours so you can taste the vast selection and enjoy the journey.
(5)Melanie H.
I went for the first time last weekend. The tap room was very nicely set up and decorated - sleek and modern - with some merchandise available for purchase: shirts, glasses, etc. Since it was opening weekend we got to walk through the brewery and do some tastings in the back, but I also had a few tastes in the taste room at the bar. The staff were all very nice. I've loved all the beer so far - especially the two stouts: Neighborly and the Flannel Pajamas. Also love the porter. It's in a great location just a block from the Irving Park brown line stop and walking distance to other places like Half Acre, Long Room, and The Globe. A great addition to the local brewery scene. I'm also a member of the CSA they started and got my first growler last weekend - can't wait to go back.
(5)Lissy M.
Excellent beer. Small but well curated space. Friendly staff. And did I mention excellent beer? Signed up to be a member within 10 minutes of being here. Happy to have them in the neighborhood.
(5)Cynthia R.
Hidden Neighborhood Gem! Really good beer....seriously! And great owners and service. We found out about this place from a local restaurant owner and he was so right about this place. Totally unassuming. Check it out folks!
(5)Aminda S.
I've been keeping my eye on the progress of Begyle's taproom for some time now....mainly because it's located just three blocks away from my apartment. So when I finally saw the tweet I'd been waiting for - the taproom is open - I headed down to taste some beers and pick up a growler for a Super Bowl party. First let me say, if you're looking for a place to chill and drink, this isn't Half Acre Taproom. You can only sample and purchase beer to go. But what you will find here is a group of friendly, knowledgeable beer aficionados happy to let you sample the brews they have available, which are always changing. Being the hop head that I am, I went straight for the Hophazardly and the Quagmire - both of which were right up my alley - especially the Hophazardly. Conveniently I was heading to a BYOB dinner after my stop so I filled one of their 32oz. bottles with Quag', and saved the Hophazardly for the Super Bowl growler. Note: they also have a freaking huge 64oz. growler that I have my eye on, even if my intended purpose for it is apartment decor. Whatever. Definitely pay these guys a visit when you're in North Center, or heading north on the brown line (conveniently located on Ravenswood right off Irving Park stop) Cheers
(5)Ish Z.
My wife Jess and I recently went on a brewery tour at Begyle brewery, which according to them was the largest group they've had so far, and it was great. We met Brendan and Kevin, aka the Money team, and they were the most knowledgeable down-to-earth guys. They told us their brewing history as well as the brewing process. They fielded a variety of questions and you get the feeling that they love giving tours and meeting people as much as they love beer. After the tour, I even met Matt, the brewmaster, and he explained the bright tanks which have up until today still been a mystery to me. We had yet to taste Begyle's beers and the samples we tried were fantastic - Freebird, Crash Landed and Hophazardly. Their setup is awesome and they have a nice selection of bomber/growlers and Merch. I am really happy that this place is local and highly recommend that you stop in here for a tour and pick up some growlers to help keep these guys in the neighborhood.
(5)Shaun C.
The tasting room at Begyle Brewing offers the best beer I've had in Chicago. The owners couldn't be better people, and absolutely deserve all the success that their hard work has earned them. Winners of the 2013 Best New Craft Brewery of Chicago, their Community Supported Brewery business model brings very fair priced and great tasting product to the craft beer community. You won't regret stopping by for a few tastes and a growler of your favorite Begyle beer.
(5)Tabitha J.
I was here a few weeks ago with a couple of friends who were in Chicago while traveling to breweries all over the country. The guys here were so friendly, funny, and welcoming. While talking with the brew dudes, several patrons came in to fill growlers, and all were greeted warmly, offered samples and welcomed into the Begyle community. The beer is wonderful and spot on every time. I'm looking forward to the Christmas Ale :-)
(5)David C.
Great brewery!
(5)B C.
The guys at Begyle have a ton of delicious offerings on tap, ready for growler fills and sample pours in their new tasting room. They've set up shop in a neighborhood that's quickly becoming a midwest brewing destination. They're within walking distance of several other fine establishments, like Half Acre, Metropolitan, Bad Apple, Fountainhead, and Bottles & Cans. Begyle is already a pioneer in the industry, introducing a beer-CSA growler subscription program and the "tasting room" concept, which is different from a traditional tap room. It's exciting to see a local business with novel means of selling an amazing product. I tried samples of the Neighborly dry stout, the Oh Hey porter, and the Euchred midwest IPA. All three were excellent. There were about 7-8 different varieties on tap and available to sample. The tasting room has a sleek, modern feel and there's plenty of memorabilia available for purchase. I picked up a Begyle-labeled snifter glass, which I look forward to using with a growler of their beer during the Super Bowl.
(5)Laura L.
Great GREAT beer at decent prices. Awesome to have such a cool storefront and local brewery. I know breweries are popular in the city, but there was something cool about it not being paired w a restaurant. 4 free samples. Inexpensive growlers - $4 for 64 oz jug and a great value to fill $12! Go here.
(5)John G.
Great CMU staff there. Really friendly and the beer is awesome. I recommend the euchre or the Hophazardly.
(5)Lindsey W.
As a craft beer drinker, I'm pretty excited (but also picky) when a new shop opens up. I had tasted one of Begyle's collaboration beers before it opened and it was great, though, so I had high hopes. Well, this place absolutely lived up to it...and more! Everything they have on tap tastes great, is true to style and you can sample everything they have before deciding what to take home! I can't say enough excellent things about the friendly staff. They make the experience fun for those beer afficionados who just want to talk about every little hop strain, brewing technique, etc., but I also saw them interact with some of the newer beer drinkers and they were just as great. Can't wait to go back!
(5)J. B.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries in the city, not only for their excellent tasting brews but also for the great people behind it. The brewery is truly a dream come true for the owners and it comes across when you go there for a visit... they have a great story of bootstrapping and busting butt to build Begyle. A must-stop if you're in the neighborhood of Ravenswood or must-drink at any of the local craft beer bars around the city!
(5)Ben T.
I came here about one week after they first opened. Great staff and even better beer. I'd suggest making a trip.
