Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I do like this restaurant. It is clean and the people are friendly. I agree that the salsa and guacamole are not the best. the salsa is ok if you are eating in the dining area, but to take home you could do better out of a jar. I really like this appetizer, (I eat as a meal). It has a full order of beef nachos, a whole cheese quesadilla, and 2 taquitos. I love the El Mezon burrito. how can you go wrong with chicken, shrimp, and chorizo all covered in cheese sauce? I will be back. it is good. Just don't waste your money on the guacamole.

Came out here for lunch with some co-workers hoping for some authentic Mexican food. We were seated very quickly and were surprised at the prices of this place. Every item was around $2 less than what I would normally see at a Mexican restaurant of similar quality. My co-workers ordered the lunch special chicken chimichanga with rice and beans for $5. I had the chicken fajitas, and they were only $7 or $8. My co-workers' food came out first. The server said, "Two beef chimichangas?" My co-workers both told our server that they had both ordered chicken and not beef. So the server goes back into the kitchen, and about 15 seconds later, what looked to be the cook came out with the same plates. He said, "Two chicken chimichangas?" We all looked puzzled. There was no way they could have fixed the chimichangas that quickly. My co-workers cut into their chimichangas, and they were definitely beef and not chicken. It wasn't a huge deal for them though, they said it was still tasty. My food came out next. The server said, "Chicken fajitas and three tacos?" I told them, I had the fajitas but no tacos." He placed the plate of fajitas on the table and brought the tacos to the correct table. Now, I noticed that I didn't have any tortillas and that the description of the dish was different than what was stated on the menu. There was supposed to be guacamole on the plate and there wasn't, and I also didn't have any tortillas to eat my fajitas with. It took quite awhile for me to flag down a waiter for some tortillas. Good thing I eat fast, because my co-workers were almost half done with there meal. Overall the food was tasty and cheap, but I felt like the service was lacking. Probably would not come here again unless my co-workers really wanted to.

I would put El Mezon in the "Standard Authentic Mex" category; they offer the classic fare and you get what you expect. But there are also a few specialties like the Fajita Quesedilla. I've had plenty of fajitas and countless quesedillas, but this was my first collision of two in one dish. It certainly won't be my last. The Queso Fundido with chorizo, beans and cheese dip was a nice surprise and my friend's Steak Burrito was also excellent. Margarita wise, they're fine, although they are pre-made. The menu says that you can customize them with your choice of tequila, but when I asked the waitress, she seemed confused about it. All in all, it's a solid choice for Mexican if you're in the area. Very bright and clean inside and the owner is very friendly and accommodating.

Not bad. I would consider it a middle of the road experience. Food was a little salty but not bad.

Another fantastic meal here. The service is so good, the food authentic and super tasty. Good margaritas, too. This is my favorite restaurant south of Springfield
