These guys get three stars only because their food is fresh and well prepared. Don't come here if you're looking for terrific service. Let me be more specific. During the day there is an old lady that works there with glasses and a big mole on her chin. I'd rate her service at poor to very poor. My soup is always brought to me with my meal. The younger girl that works there always brings my soup to me first as opposed to the old lady who lets it sit up there on the counter until my sandwich is finished.(about 7 min) The old lady with the mole on her chin has delivered the wrong order to me regardless that the receipt clearly states my order, and today she served me crackers that were all broken up in the package with my nearly cold soup. Also you can always count on some dumpy ass folks playing the slot machines in there. I would rather be tortured in a mid-evil dungeon then go in that bathroom again. It smells like a porno store viewing booth. In closing if you decide to go and you order soup make sure you request that they bring it out to you as soon as it's ready. They take the time to make fresh soup and then the lady with the mole on her chin just lets it sit there and die on the counter.

I came here to pick up dinner with my girlfriend. I enjoyed the chicken breast sandwich it is a whole chicken breast. The shake I got was okay. I would stop by for a quick bite again.

Nick's Barbecue is a small fast food eatery offering barbecue items, hot dogs, burgers and other foods. There is a big boy like mascot on the top of the building which makes it fairly noticeable from a distance. In stopping into Nick's I decided to go for a hot dog which came with fries. The hot dog I received was a skinless dog on a regular non-poppy seed bun. It came with a somewhat thick pickle slice and a cucumber slice. Cucumber slices are fairly uncommon in Chicago style hot dogs (I've seen about a dozen places do it in over 120 reviews of hot dogs so far), and this is the only place I've seen with a long cucumber slice. However, there's no tomato, celery salt or hot peppers on this dog. The application of mustard and onion were fine, but there was quite a bit too much relish. The sausage itself was skinless and well heated but nothing amazing. The fries included were long crisp fries. The fries weren't particularly salty, or greasy and didn't have a particularly tasty potato paste on the inside. I'd rate these about average. The only other things I have to note about Nick's Barbecue are that they have a decent amount of seating inside, they have an unusual soda fountain with various RC products (despite having Coca-Cola memorabilia throughout the inside), Nehi and even Green River. Overall I'd say this is an average establishment to obtain a Chicago style hot dog and give it three stars.

Food was ok, nothing impressive but customer service excellent. Will definitely go back just because of that

My first time eating from here so might be a one time thing, but this place seems average at best. I got beef brisket dinner with fries, baked beans, and macaroni & cheese. I love the fries and beans and the actual BBQ sauce. The beans had a sweetness but nice tang to it and the sauce was sweet and smoky. The actual brisket seems bland and a bit tough. The macaroni is flavorless and the noodles overcooked. I wouldn't recommend it but would let someone make their own decision. My taste isn't the same as many people's.

At nicks to get a sub and they made us wait at the drive thru for 5 minutes then didn't understand when we said turkey sub. What kind of bread? Has one kind. Sub. As in submarine. Finally a guy says one moment. 12 minutes later they come out with our food. ::sigh::

Actually, I'm kind of surprised by all the overly negative reviews. Now don't get me wrong. Nick's is not the best place I've eaten at, but its certainly not as bad as it seems many are trying to make it out to be. They have their good and bad just like most other burger, hotdog, rib joints. Yes, the fries are not good. The frozen fries they use have an odd texture I've never been fond of them. The bbq sauce is their own brand, which is pretty much on par with the average sweet dark malasses sauces (everyone's type of sauce tastes are different) you find at the grocery store. I usually stick to what I like. Ribs, chicken, fish sandwich, shrimp. Anyway, as for today. I ordered a fish sandwich and fries (which is the Friday special) and a ribeye steak sandwich. The fish sandwich was hot and crispy on a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato and a tartar sauce that works with their sandwich. The ribeye steak sandwich is a piece of grilled ribeye with grilled onions, lettuce and tomato on a toasted bun. The food I had today was good, and I have no complaints. Its not the best place but if your selective. You can come out with a decent meal. This meal cost $15.93 (food and drinks) which is not bad to feed two people. I give a solid 3 stars.

Spotted here today on my way to work. I have a sore throat and the only things that don't hurt to swallow are soup and ice cream. I went through the drive thru and ordered their cream of chicken soup. It took a few minutes for them to get it to me. I like to give places the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the person in front of me had a big order? Anyways, the girl who gave me my soup gave me the vibe that she didn't want to be there. Not exactly rude but definitely not friendly either. Soup wasn't bad but it's pretty hard to mess up soup.

Been going to Nick's for quite a few years now. when you pre order your lunch and only have a half hour to pick up and eat your lunch, it gets very annoying that the older woman who answers the phone constantly gets orders wrong, and extra things onto your order.(that have to be refunded that takes forever)Quality is going down on food. And with the exception of one nice younger girl that works there during the day, everybody else has attitudes especially the management. I think now if it wasn't for the poker machines that they put in there that place would have closed down. They seem to brag about having three locations but that doesn't make this one any better than the other ones. I would recommend moving on and finding somewhere better to eat.

Went at night, it was pretty creepy. The girl behind the counter was extremely nice, but I got a weird vibe from the older man behind the counter. I'd definitely do take out, but would hold back on ordering in.

Was working in the area 7/14/14, Nicks was close, let's give it a try... Order BBQ beef, fries and a drink. The bbq sauce is a dark brown color with an odd taste I couldn't put my finger on, flat, bland tasting , not BBQy tangy flavor. The beef tasted old and over-cooked, just some beef dipped in bbq sauce and slapped on a bun. ICK! Fries typical cheep frozen fries. And now the drink, the first few sips were ok but then I started getting and odd taste from it, wasn't sure if it was the drink, sandwich or fries. Dumped out... I'm not in that area often but if I am I won't try them again. If that is the BBq sauce they use it isn't very good. Next

The food is good but the service is not. Not very friendly at the drive thru and if you're in a hurry, well be prepared to wait. Usually they're pretty slow at speed of service. I once waited 20 minutes at the drive thru speaker because they told me to wait. I went inside to see why they wouldn't take my order and as I'm walking in they are now taking the order of the car that was behind me. Made me wait 20 minutes for nothing. I asked the manager why; all I got as a reply was, "oh we're busy you know." Horrible customer service.
(2)Jeannie A.
I wish you could give NEGATIVE stars. This place has the worst service ever. The manager Steve is just plain ignorant. Ordered $20 worth of food in the drive through. They make you pull up and pay, and then pull up further to wait. After 25 minutes of nothing, I backed up and beeped. Manager Steve was rude, had no clue why the food wasn't ready, they forgot that I was there and that they asked me to pull up. Then he came back about 5 minutes later with the food and I asked him what the problem was and why I had to wait 25 minutes (for grilled cheese, soup, pizza puffs, patty-melt). He had no clue, so I said I would sit there why he found out. He was not happy about that. In the end, got home with cold food and a missing grilled cheese. This place sucks and the service is horrible. Please go somewhere else!!!

Done with this place. I have given them three tries to get my meal correct and they can't seem to do it. This is the south side - we expect to have our food prepared correctly - and we expect you to deliver on your promise. There seems to be a trend these days which features these joints resting on their reputations. The gyro plate features "extra meat and extra sauce." It simply doesn't come that way. There was sch a scant mount of meat - I had to pull back the onion slices to see the meat. The (still frozen) sauce - they don't give you enough in the first place - so they give you almost enough and call that "extra" and charge extra. The kicker is the fries. There is nothing ambiguous about "well done" when ordering fries. I actually told the cashier they needed them to be dangerously hard and crispy. You can imagine my surprise when they were half-raw. Overpriced under-quality. Done with Nick's - in the "nick" of time.

Worst place ever! Wrote to corporate about the customer service & they basically wrote me back saying that if it wasn't for their service & food, they wouldn't have 3 restaurants. So everyone who wrote about the food & service is wrong. This place is ridiculous! A bunch of cocky assholes. Please do not go here! It'll be a waste of money.
(1)Lupe G.
I have had some damned good ribs & this place is pretty good. They also have tons of specials. I often see cops here so again, I know it's a pretty good bang for my buck.
(4)Betty B.
love there food!, gyro sandwich is a must along with there fried mushrooms & chicken on pita bread

My husband and I had dinner here on a Thursday at 5pm. I ordered rib tips w a baked potato. My husband ordered a full slab of ribs w fries. I honestly have never had rib tips that bad in my life! They were so hard and dry , flavorless to the core my main concern was that they had a HORRIFIC smell to them, like they were borderline spoiling a huge RED FLAG for me I do not like confrontation so I didn't complain but seriously this place should not be serving ribs or any type of food. My husband said his ribs were extremely salty they didn't smell nothing like what my rib tips did. I hope this Helps. The Patio is only a few blocks south of nicks. But on 79th east of nicks is CHUCKS sooooo worth it for BBQ .
(1)Mike M.
It's sad to see a Nicks run as badly as this one is! I grew up down the street from the one in Palos Heights and later worked near the one in Homer Glen. I love their BBQ! But this location has screwed up 3 different times and now I'm done with them. Once we ordered dinners to go and found when we got home they forgot to put our side orders in. Today when we order the old guy behind the counter was grumpy and bringing on rude to us. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, it's way over cooked (it's crunchy in spots). I just tried to call back to let them know the pull pork was over done and their not answering the phone. Tarnishing my image of the Nick restaurant chain.

This place is OK. I just ordered from there and am currently eating my two hot dogs. Unfortunately they didn't come with the cucumbers that the menu states they come with. Disappointed, but I'll live. The service? rude!! This old lady took my order at drive thru and wow was she rude. Didn't even say hello or thank you. It's not such a big deal but her attitude was disgusting. She was miserable. learn some common courtesy. They are usually nice but today I feel like I don't even want to go back in the future.

This has to be the worst bbq that I have ever had. The Burger King $1 Rib sandwich is better bbq in my opinion. I got the half slab, 1/4 chicken meal for $13.95. The ribs were dry and lacked any flavor. It was almost the same story with the chicken, but it was more moist. I drowned the food in some barbecue sauce that I had at home in order to salvage it. The coleslaw tasted good, however, it did not make up for the main course. Also, they only gave me two sides in my meal when it clearly states that you get three. My guess is that they simply didn't care since it was Christmas Eve and had leftover meat or that employees stuck working were angry and purposely did a poor job.
(1)Darrell H.
Changed the bbq sauce awhile back and it's not good, use to order from here all the time and then I don't know if the owner put his attention in another of his places but it just started going south and good level went down among with getting delivery orders straight.
(2)G H.
Stopped here randomly because my husband had a taste for ribs but I wish we would have went somewhere else. Overall the food was flavorless and just not enjoyable. My husband had the ribs with 3 sides: mac and cheese, coleslaw and pasta salad. The ribs were mediocre and all three of his sides were gross. Especially the Mac and cheese - no flavor whatsoever. Pasta salad tasted sour. I had the shrimp which was actually pretty good but the potato wedges again were bland. Even the meatballs we ordered for our toddler were flavorless. The restaurant itself is pretty nice on the inside. The employees weren't exactly friendly and there were un-bussed tables that sat uncleaned from the time we walked in until we left. I've always been curious to try this place but now that I have, I won't be going back.

This was our first time going to Nick's & trying their food. I ordered several different items from here including beef sandwiches, sausage w/ hot peppers, cream of chicken soup, potato wedges, etc. Absolutely Every single thing I ordered was Excellent! And let me stress that I'm Very picky when it comes to food so for me to be impressed is a big deal. Everyone else I ordered food for also loved their food. The prices are very reasonable & the service was good and pleasant. Nick's is My new favorite place! I'm about to order lunch & have it delivered from there right now. Highly Recommended :-)

So I placed an order for delivery at 6:12pm. I used their online ordering system to do this. I got an email confirmation with an order number. An hour goes past and still no food. I check my email again and noticed that they didn't have a section for my credit card number to be taken. So I called them and let them know they didn't have my number. The woman told me my order was in the system and that I should have gotten a call so that they can get my number. So I just gave it to her over the phone and she put my order in again. This was at 7:36pm. They said it would take an hour for delivery. Eight thirty pm goes by. Then 9:30pm. I call them to see what happened. The guy that answered said someone had came to my house and called me and the person that answered said that they would open the door. Impossible. I didn't talk to anyone and there wasn't even a missed call on my phone from them. Then he proceeded to tell me that I was outside of his delivery area even though I checked their map and it said they deliver as far east as Kedzie. I'm on Pulaski. They even have different delivery minimums and delivery fees for different areas. He told me, "It doesn't matter what that map says." So, safe to assume I won't be ordering here anymore and I'm waiting for my refund.

A solid three from little ol' me! Stopped in for a quick lunch on Friday. The staff was pleasant, the prices were low, but my selection as a vegetarian was slightly limited. Sure they had a lot of side dishes that I could happily gorge myself in (mozzarella sticks, fried zucchini, french fries, curly fries, etc.), but there weren't too many entree options. I was truthfully hoping for a veggie burger or black bean burger or something of that nature, but I wound up with an equally delicious, less weight friendly grilled cheese. Oh, who am I kidding, weight friendly? Like I was trying to be good by eating here with my side of large curly fries! Everything was good, solid greasy junk food- exactly what I was looking for.
(3)Brian N.
This place is absolutely horrible! The restaurant is dirty, the short haired older woman working the counter is the most miserable hag that I've dealt with in a long time, and the piss flys in the place were rather annoying. Oh, the food was terrible too.
(1)Ricky B.
I have tried quite a few things on their menu, considering that we would make about 100 orders from them every day from work. To bad they were late one day with all those orders and we almost couldnt eat lunch so they have been put on time out for a while. I probably would stay away from some of the pasta dishes, they arent that great, but man their BBQ pulled pork is some of the best I have ever had. As for the rest of their food it is all pretty good, and I will say that their portions are all very plentiful. Edit: The one we ordered from probably wasnt Burbank, I didnt make the orders but it was whichever one that delivers to Lemont.
(4)Michelle H.
An undiscovered gem of the BBQ world. This place has some really great ribs, chicken, rib tips and brisket covered in a tangy, somewhat spicy barbecue sauce. Also they have some really good beef sandwiches, Polishes, and burgers. It is all counter service, but the dining room is big, usually empty, and always very clean. And not to mention their exceptionally good french fries. And to top it all off, be sure to indulge in a fair priced mug or bottle of beer!
(5)Matt B.
If I could bathe in their barbecue sauce, I would. Best damn ribs in the area, and for an great price. If I wouldn't end up weighing as much as a semi-truck, I'd eat there every day.
(5)Latonya C.
I have to say, I love this restaurant. I said i was going to try a few things out of there before I tell anyone who travels that far to go there and try their food. This place is absolutely good. I love the gyros, it is very tender, they put feta cheese on it, the sauce isn't runny like some places, and it is put in the gyro sleeve like it is supposed to be. The spaghetti is also the bomb, seasoned so good, a must try as well. their cheeseburgers are very good, and the fries are hot and cooked properly. Italian beef is good too, and very tender rib tips. Yumm O. I haven't tried the whole menu, but I plan to. Go here.
(4)Ian S.
First trip here even though ive been living in this area for 10 years. There were 4 of us and we all tasted each others order. Just to sum it all up, the food here is your typical frozen, Gordon food service type of food. What we had did not taste like it was made from scratch or freshly prepared at all. Prices are reasonable, service was good.
(2)Paul Z.
decent BBQ for a reasonable price, last few times I have been disappointed with the quality of the food (fatty) Tried them again last night and they were really good, I figured out that you have to order from there early or you get re heated food
(3)Cindy D.
Went here for lunch with a coworker - I got the ribtik (like a McRib) sandwich - the bread was toasty and the meat was pretty good. I know it's processed and I probably should have gotten the ribs, but oh well. I was still pretty happy with my choice. Also, I got a small tossed salad. OK, nothing out of ordinary. My coworker got the 5 fried chicken meal and comes with 3 small sides. Pretty good deal considering it was a ton of food. Also, he ate is ALL, but the chicken pieces were relatively small.
(3)Dennis B.
I've been here a couple of times. They have a ton of stuff on there menu and very good sides. The BBQ however is not like what I buy when I go to a hole in the wall rib joint in the hood. Their Q just lacks soul.
(2)Jason M.
Two relatives raved about how good these ribs were so I took a long drive. Any future recommendations from them will be met with serious skepticism. As any rib lover knows, rib meat should NEVER fall off the bone, but that's what these do. The moment I was given a plastic fork and knife I knew something was wrong. These are what I would get if I cooked ribs in the oven for 90 minutes and put them under the broiler for a few to caramelize the sauce. The result isn't bad, but if I wanted that I'd do it at home rather than shell out $20 at a restaurant for what I thought would be real BBQ. I was very hungry and they weren't bad so I ate the whole slab, but with each bite I lamented the time and money they cost me. I was here once before late at night, and the boneless rib sandwich is quite good. The fries are also better than average. When you choose to have the word RIBS on your sign in massive type, you need to deliver the goods. Nick's fails terribly. They need to either learn to make the real thing or change their sign and market themselves as one more burger and dog joint. If you want great ribs and you're on the south side, go to The Patio, as I wish I had.
(2)Ryan C.
I think that Nick's Fat Boy has disregarded every warning ever listed from the Surgeon General about Cholesterol. I have yet to try any of the BBQ because I have a strong addiction to their Gyro plate. You can see the grease dripping...which doesn't stop me. The pita bread is great and always warm to my likings. It's great food, casual dining and decent on the wallet. No, it's not a first day caliber joint, but worth going if you want a killer gyro. Killer would be heart attack or stroke and ever so delicious. Great lunch specials. Thanks, Nick, for adding to the nations health problem with unhealthy food...it's worth it. I give 'em 5 tasty grease drips out of 5.
(5)Noah C.
Nick's BBQ is known for their BBQ ribs and chicken but we were in a hurry and stopped in for a couple burgers and chicken sandwich. We we very impressed with the burgers! Great buns and thick, juicy burgers. Fresh Lettuce, thick slices of ripe tomatoes, and a minimum of grease. My wife's chicken sandwich was juicy and on the same type of soft, but not too soft, bun. The service was friendly and quick. The soda selection was classic South side ( RC, Diet Rite, Hires Root Beer, 7-UP, etc.). The prices were great, too. We have been to Nick's (other locations) before for Ribs and Chicken but last night we were thoroughly impressed with the burger and chicken sandwich.
