Service - the front counter employees started out iffy. He almost looked annoyed by me at first because I kept asking questions about what fish item was good to order. He didn't seem to know and kept saying that the Reuben was a popular item. Eventually he warmed up to me and answered more questions I had. He turned out to be a really nice cashier. Order - I ordered 1.) coffee, locks bagel, and 2.) scrambled eggs with bacon and pancakes. The cost of 2. Was only $6.50 and there seemed to be a good portion of eggs with a good size pancakes, and bacon was perfect. As for the lox bagel, this was awesome!!! I'm actually craving for more. I went to get coffee and there was none. But they were quick to make more and didn't take long for my freshly brewed coffee to arrive. I went to my car to just drop off my coffee and one of the employees were nice enough to walk my food over to where I was. I wasn't expecting it and was going to go back to get it, but just that small gesture of great customer service was what made me give the 5 stars. I think I found my breakfast restaurant.

I am sorry to have to write this review but today I stopped by to get soup and sandwich to go and it took way too long. And this was after lunch time. There was only one customer seated in booth, the owner was sitting at table doing some kind of work and there were at least 3 guys that kept walking back and forth in front of me behind counter. Not once did any of them say a word to me. I stood there waiting and finally I asked if someone was going to take a my order. One guy said in a minute. I think the customer service was terrible, how would it be if they actually were busy? Food good or bad does not matter, I will not go back due to treatment I received.

Jewish American traditional good home cooking which makes for an amazing breakfast spot and deli. Four types of lox, several cream cheese varieties to compliment their awesome bagels/bialy. Everything made right in the back the way mamma used to... Every type of salad that can be made in a deli is made here. Order at the counter then get coffee and drinks at the self serve station afterwards put your number up to stake your claim at a seat. If its crowded and your with friends better implement the divide and conquer plan to ensure a seat. The only draw back is the everything bagels are too salty especially with the belly lox.

So after being here many times I have to downgrade my rating to 3-stars. This is entirely based on pricing. This place, however delicious, is VERY expensive. I have mostly come here at lunch time, because I get mad cravings for bagel-sandwiches! When I come, I order turkey with cheese on a bagel (nothing else on it) with an order of fries. The bill comes to $11.72 - for a BAGEL Sandwich and FRIES. REALLY?!? WTF? This is way to rich for my blood... so i can assure you that my visits here will be very few and far between. Even Panera is cheaper, and THEY'RE expensive! This place is really cute, and seems to have great food - but just way too expensive.

I just attended a breakfast event at Ivy Hall Elementary school where the bagels were provided by Original Bagel & Bialy. I hadn't had a bagel from here before, so this is my first taste and experience with them. These bagels are DELICIOUS! They are soft on the inside, but dense enough to form a good crust on the outside. They also have a great homemade quality to them - they are definitely MUUUUCH better than the grocery store varieties, and light years ahead of Dunkin Donuts and Panera. I think these are now my favorite traditional style bagel. Yum!!

The service is terrible. I asked for a cup and I never said what its for. They gave me a cup, I filled it up with lemonade and here comes the old ass guy and says "you asked for a cup for water" I never asked for a cup for water. He grabbed my cup away and kicked me out of the store. The pizza bagel is cold and hard. I think they were laying there for months. The chili is the only good thing I've tried. I normally don't write reviews but people need to know this. At the resturaunt I work in, we don't need an extra dollar or two. If people just want a drink we give em a drink. If they don't have 15¢ or a $1 we just give it to them. Not here at Bagel Bialy. You are lucky with the 2 stars.

My first time visiting - I got the ally triple decker grilled cheese on challah bread which was amazingly cheesy. The chicken noodle soup is bland. Not bad but kinda blah. They have a pretty big menu which can be overwhelming but a lot of choices including some weird ones like Liver sandwich, which I would never be temped to try, sorry not sorry. Would come back here again. The breakfast menu looks pretty good.

So disappointing. I stopped in this afternoon for a quick lunch to go. I have had their trays before with family and their tuna used to be pretty decent. I asked for low fat tuna on a whole wheat bailey. Somehow one scoop of mayo filled tuna on a cold bailey costed $9.27...... The staff were rude and needless to say I will never be back. I'll be bringing my business to Upper Crust Deli on Dundee in Northbrook.

I can't believe I've never reviewed this place since I used to go here all the time growing up on one of my favorite BG plazas with my favorite Jewel, my favorite Buffalo Grove sushi place, Taste of Tokyo, it used to have my favorite Blockbuster, The Best Salon, even good old and ancient Ihop. Okay, anyways, unfortunately this Original Bagel and Bialy is not my favorite deli by any means. The place is spacious with lots of seating options or a great place if you want to run in and get something to go. I've usually gotten something to go from here whether it's one of their little Jewish desserts around the High Holidays or some lox and bagels, I've had my share of interesting things here. Here are where they do get my stars, the people working here are very nice so that's star right there, the place is nice and spacious which is great for a deli where you don't want to feel like everyone is on top of you and they have fantastic nova lox. Okay, so why do they not get the other stars you may ask? The place is called Original Bagel and Bialy and although I can't vouch for their bialys since I'm not the biggest fan in general, their bagels just don't do it. They aren't cheap that's for sure, and they aren't moist nor crunchy, they're just kinda there, kinda blah-ish. I've had many flavors from egg, to plain to sesame and never have they rocked my bagel loving world. Also, their cream cheese is just okay, the plain is actually my favorite there and it's not cheap. So why I don't stop by too often is that I'd like to get all my bagel necessities in one place, like their tasty lox, their decent cream cheese and their eh bagels. I need a place where I can get all my needs met in one place so I don't have to drive around town looking for better bagels. Also, there's been times when I came in too late in the day and all the bagels are super hard from sitting out all day and kinda tasteless at that point. But if you're looking for other things like matzo ball soup or a reuben sandwich than this BG deli spot maybe for you. I know they also have breakfast dishes as well if you're in the area. I wish I loved it like I love everything else on that plaza but unless my friend is making me have lunch there with her than I'm in no rush to come back.

The owner himself decided to help three people in back of me instead of asking me if I needed anything or if I've been helped. My family and I have dined at this restaurant about 10 times, most recently today. You order at the counter, then sit down and they bring you your food at the table. The service is usually quick, and if they happen to be very busy, they have a numbering system to make sure everyone is served in the order of arrival. With today being Mother's Day, they were very busy, and service was still fast. The man who took our order, was a bit hard to understand because he was speaking so quickly and mumbling his words together, but we got the ordering done successfully. My wife and I both had the chopped liver sandwich, which is one of our favorite items here. We both thought it was excellent. If you are a fan of chopped liver, I would highly recommend it. The sandwich is served with a pickle and your choice of potato salad, cole slaw or macaroni salad. We had the potato salad and it was good as well. We also tried the potato latke fries. They were hot, very tasty, and served with your choice of sour cream or applesauce. We also had an everything bagel with vege cream cheese. It was very tasty as well. We brought home a bag of their cinnamon sugar bagel chips, and they are delicious. I highly recommend them. It takes us about 45 minutes to get to this restaurant, and my wife and I both feel it is worth the drive. The food is consistently very good, and we highly recommend this restaurant. They have a huge menu. They are well known for their breakfast, although we have never tried it. We have seen others eating their breakfast items, and they looked good. They also have a large variety of sandwiches, soups, and side dishes available (much more than what we had today). Just a tip, you might want to check out their website first to look at the menu before you get there, so you start figuring out what you would like.

You don't realize how different a sandwich can be until you have been around. When the meat was put in a microwave to warm it, well I knew this place was not aware of the affect on the flavor. OK to expand upon my brief previous tip which was "Sort of OK for basic deli". Hard to screw up a bagel, but not thrilled with the freshness of the fish (I love Chubs and Sable) . When I lived in the area was in there all the time until it was sold to the current owner. We're talking twice or three times a week, but have never got the time of day from the new owner. Bottom line for a bagel and coffee fine, anything more you can do better.

Disappointed as I visited store on August 25th at 10:45am. I placed an order for a toasted bagel with cream cheese and a cup of coffee. At 11:36am I had to wait in line again to find what is the delay The cashier responded that he went on break and forgot to place my order (with a grin on his face). I fail to see the humor. I asked for a refund as at this point after being humiliated I just wanted to leave. I was then ignored by all three cashiers who refused to even make eye contact. The store owner finally came over and apologized for his staff's mistake and refunded my order. I went to another bagel store down the road that was more than happy to have my business.

Well I feel sort of silly for just trying this place after living in BG for six plus years. I'm glad I finally stopped in. Not just a bagel shop by a mile - a full on Jewish deli with all sorts of goodness. I picked up lunch, plus bagels for the next morning. They have a great combo deal so you choose two items from a half sandwich, soup, salad, plus lots of other things I don't remember. The sandwiches were HUGE and so was the soup portion! Challah bread was delish. Everything was fresh and tasty. Big kids menu with lots of options. The bagels were great, I loved that they had salt as an option, my favorite. Plenty of room to sit and eat there as well - will have to head back to dine in and try their full breakfast menu as well! Little bit pricey but worth it for the food quality.

I really enjoy this place and everything it has to offer. Getting a warm bialy on my way to work makes the day extra special. Their lunch sandwiches are huge and delicious. I especially like the reuben. For breakfast I've tried a number of dishes. They are good but they're not making mind blowing breakfast here. It's delicious, don't get me wrong. All of their portion sizes are monstrous and you get great value for the buck. Their matzo ball soup is fantastic with a half sandwich, and that for a weekend brunch is all I need until dinner. I also love the Mish mosh when trying to get over a cold. Take that home and you have 3 meals easy. I wish they had a few healthier options, as well as some quick breakfast sandwiches to go. For that I still go to Panera for their breakfast power sandwich. I'll keep coming here as it's the best Jewish deli I know of, and everything is done really well.

I love walking over to this place on a Saturday morning for breakfast. The place is always busy; so if you go with someone, make sure they grab a table. The wait may be long, but I promise it will be worth it. I have had a handful of meals from here, and never been disappointed. I love their corned beef hash with some eggs over easy. The portions are very large- more than some people will be able to eat. There french toast is also terrific, and they make it with challah. This is something you could easily split with someone else. The omelets/scrambles are very good, and the lox are great. Although the prices may be a bit high, the food is great. They also have a huge deli section with every kind of jewish gnosh you can think of.

The bagels are varied and very good. On par with really good bagel places, but not Greenwich at Sixth Avenue-- darn close, however. The upshots are good breakfasts (didn't sample lunch/all-day fare) with good bagels. The schmear is just too much, and can drip everywhere as the viscosity of the cream cheese is not quite as thick as some places. Coffee is good, service is fast, but it can also get very busy instantly here. It all works out. Prices are fair to slightly high, but the flavors make up for any strangenesses. Recommended above many on the N Side of Chicagoland.

I guess if you've never had bagels from New York or New Jersey, than this might be good. I've been on a quest since I moved out here to find remotely comparable bagels to what I grew up with. This is not at all comparable. Here's why we won't be back: First, boo and I walked in and just looking at the bagels we knew these were probably just rolls with holes in the center. But, having drove out there we figured why not give it a try. These bagels remind me of smaller versions of the bagels from that Great American Bagel chain. They weren't boiled before baking the way bagels are supposed to be, hence the rolls with holes in the center analogy. The boiling step gives them that rich chewy texture that that gives them their status as bagels. Second, I ordered egg and cheese on a bagel with pepper and ketchup. What I got was runny eggs (even the whites were runny) with the cheapest american cheese I've seen yet. Not to be too gross but I was throwing up for half the day today. I'm guessing it was the runny eggs? I really wanted this place to be a real good bagel place but wasn't meant to be :( The bagel quest continues and we will NOT be back to this place.

the corned beef, bagels, and matzah ball soup is good. the food is not cheap but it's worth it. expect to pay about $10/person. if you haven't had the matzah ball soup or Reuben wrap, or toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese or potato salad, or lox, get it before you kick the bucket. the matzah ball soup is to die for. yes it gets crowded in the morning - that's to be expected. don't go there in the morning if you are in a hurry. Be sure to grab a number from the ticket machine as soon as you walk in.

While visiting Chicago, I was invited here (July 6th, 2012) by friends in town from California, who used to live in Illinois. I went with an empty stomach, so I could sample as much as possible. I STILL wasn't prepared for the HUMONGOUS servings they gave us! We ate for the next 3 meals on all the yummy food! Chopped liver = had a nice , sweet hint to it. The Matzoh Ball in the soup was HUGE -- almost the size of a tennis ball!!! They make the thickest split pea soup I've had in a restaurant...like I like it!! The noodle kugel was a little too sweet for me, but my friends likened it to french toast. It was still a really awesome choice in restaurants. I'll BE BACK!!! :-D

Seems like it's getting harder and harder to find a good cold roast beef sandwich anymore. I'm not talking about the franchise places - they have their place, though when I do eat at them, it's more for price than quality. Trying to find a nice full-sized sandwich on a good quality sub roll or Jewish rye bread and a slice or two of cheese just isn't as easy as it used to be. I've seen this restaurant advertised on occasion for a few years now, but never tried it. It's towards the corner of a medium sized strip mall and I never think to go there. But I recently had a hankering for a good quality roast beef sandwich and thought I'd give it a try. The "ambiance" is that of a flashy Jewish deli. Good looking offering of meats and salads and a decent sized menu to boot. I opted for a 1/2 roast beef sandwich with Mozzarella cheese (no provolone) and a bowl of matzo ball soup. Add a fountain drink and tax and it's $11.10 for lunch. Just isn't as cheap as it used to be - but given other places I've been to, a fair price, I guess. Anyway, the 1/2 sandwich was fairly substantial as 1/2 sandwiches go. The beef was rare as I like it, but my order "with easy mayo" came out practically sans mayo. Nonetheless, it was pretty good. As for the matzo ball soup... the matzo ball itself was a good size and cooked properly. But the chicken broth was pretty salty and a disappointment. Too bad, because that matzo ball had it goin' on! Fix the broth and the place gets 4 stars. I'll be back to try some of their other offerings - bagels, Reuben sandwich, cole slaw. This place is better than a couple of other local delis, but I still yearn for that overflowing roast beef and cheese sandwich on rye for about $4 that White Hen Pantry's used to make back in my HS days. A sad reminder that those days are long gone.

Stopped by for lunch with the kids today. Been coming here for years. Not a great experience today though. First they messed up on our order- we wanted our sandwich hot but it came out cold. Second and more importantly my son ordered a hot dog kids meal and after taking a couple bites he said it smelled weird. The bread was all moldy with green spots on it. Yuck! They need better quality control here. They did replace the hot dog on a different roll but it doesn't make up for the fact that he ate a moldy hot dog. They were very nice to come out with cookies for the kids though which is way nice. We would still probably come back. Maybe they just had a bad day since it was busy.

This place is situated in a weird strip mall next to a temple that used to be a hardware store. The boyfriend and I stopped in to pick up his mother's order of nearly ten pounds of chopped liver for Rosh Hashanah (big family!) The bagels here are really, really good. Not quite as good as New York/Long Island, but pretty damn close, and way better than anything else I've had in Chicago. The matzo ball soup is absolutely delicious and the matzo balls are huge! It's really almost as good as bubbe's. The chopped liver, though, oh my god... The chopped liver is amazing. Maybe the best I've ever had. I look forward to every bris, bar mitzvah, or holiday so that I can use the excuse to gain five pounds by eating the stuff. This place is -the- place around Chicago for Jewish comfort food.

Sorry but this place officially pissed me now... Been here before and it was great. This time I ordered Nova Lox and Onion scramble. Now I do not use salt at all except on potatoes and very little at that. The second I bit into the scramble the eggs,onions & Nova Lox the taste was awesome till I tasted the Lox... It was so salty I could only eat half the plate and picked out most of the Lox. I asked if Nova was used as I have had it many times and this was terrible. The owner said it was and I debated that fact with him, informing him that I do not eat salt and always order Nova instead of Regular, and this was either not Nova or the worst Nova I have ever had. He made no offer of apology, so while everything else here is very good, I will not be wasting $9 on an egg scramble with lox when I can get a much better one at Continental, Buffalo's, or almost any of the deli's in the area.

I grew up in Buffalo Grove and have been going to this place with my father for years. I now live in Elmhurst and will trek all the way back up north just to pick up their bagels and take my son for breakfast on Sunday mornings. Bagels are always fresh and the lox is unbelievable. If you want to visit one of the best Jewish Delis in the northern suburbs, this is it. Bagels are old fashioned and delicious. Soups are home made. Salmon and Whitefish salads are the best, made from fresh fish, not canned. You can eat in the store if you want.

Every other time i ordered this sandwich at other establishments the sandwiches are served open faced pile high with corned beef, pizza sauce, and melted cheese; Heaven on a plate. i thought this place would serve an awesome one-not! all I got was an open faced bagel, pizza sauce and melted cheese lol NO MEAT!!!!! Totally not cool! I m sure I will be back but this item was a joke and a total rip off. Also sad they had no WI-FI. I would have given 4 stars - I m just dont like to be ripped off!

This establishment offers a wide variety of foods from deli sandwiches, to eggs, to pancakes, and obviously bagels. I live around the corner and this is my breakfast or lunch destination. The bagels are the best bagels I have ever had and all the other food is very good also. I gave it four stars because of the service. There is a slight language barrier which occasionally results in a mixup in what the order was. Besides this rare happening I highly recommend it.

I've been here so many times that I really can't count, probably because there really isn't any better place for a sunday breakfast or lunch. On Sunday morning we picked up lox and bagels to go. When you walk in, you grab a number and wait your turn. They are quite quick so even though your number is quite a bit away, don't fret because it will be called before you know it - just take some time to chat with neighbors while you wait (we always run into neighbors, family or friends while we're there). Their lox are always so fresh and their bagels are too. I absolutely adore their sweet and sour cabbage soup which I get every time we eat their for lunch. Also, if you're ever under the weather, I highly recommend just stopping by to grab some matzo ball soup for the road. I've heard it called "jewish penicillin" before but never believed it until I got it from Original Bagel one day when I wasn't feeling well and it worked. So, if you ever find yourself in the area and wondering where to go for breakfast or lunch, check this place out. It's fantastic!

The deli food is good, but is quite expensive. Their bagels are awful, baked without first being boiled. The worst part is that this place is just plain dirty. There are times I have been here when the floor behind the counter and in the back room when the door swings open is just disgusting with discarded scraps of food on the floor. If I want a deli fix I skip this place even though it's just a mile from the home, and head to Skokie.

Service - the front counter employees started out iffy. He almost looked annoyed by me at first because I kept asking questions about what fish item was good to order. He didn't seem to know and kept saying that the Reuben was a popular item. Eventually he warmed up to me and answered more questions I had. He turned out to be a really nice cashier. Order - I ordered 1.) coffee, locks bagel, and 2.) scrambled eggs with bacon and pancakes. The cost of 2. Was only $6.50 and there seemed to be a good portion of eggs with a good size pancakes, and bacon was perfect. As for the lox bagel, this was awesome!!! I'm actually craving for more. I went to get coffee and there was none. But they were quick to make more and didn't take long for my freshly brewed coffee to arrive. I went to my car to just drop off my coffee and one of the employees were nice enough to walk my food over to where I was. I wasn't expecting it and was going to go back to get it, but just that small gesture of great customer service was what made me give the 5 stars. I think I found my breakfast restaurant.

I am sorry to have to write this review but today I stopped by to get soup and sandwich to go and it took way too long. And this was after lunch time. There was only one customer seated in booth, the owner was sitting at table doing some kind of work and there were at least 3 guys that kept walking back and forth in front of me behind counter. Not once did any of them say a word to me. I stood there waiting and finally I asked if someone was going to take a my order. One guy said in a minute. I think the customer service was terrible, how would it be if they actually were busy? Food good or bad does not matter, I will not go back due to treatment I received.

Jewish American traditional good home cooking which makes for an amazing breakfast spot and deli. Four types of lox, several cream cheese varieties to compliment their awesome bagels/bialy. Everything made right in the back the way mamma used to... Every type of salad that can be made in a deli is made here. Order at the counter then get coffee and drinks at the self serve station afterwards put your number up to stake your claim at a seat. If its crowded and your with friends better implement the divide and conquer plan to ensure a seat. The only draw back is the everything bagels are too salty especially with the belly lox.

So after being here many times I have to downgrade my rating to 3-stars. This is entirely based on pricing. This place, however delicious, is VERY expensive. I have mostly come here at lunch time, because I get mad cravings for bagel-sandwiches! When I come, I order turkey with cheese on a bagel (nothing else on it) with an order of fries. The bill comes to $11.72 - for a BAGEL Sandwich and FRIES. REALLY?!? WTF? This is way to rich for my blood... so i can assure you that my visits here will be very few and far between. Even Panera is cheaper, and THEY'RE expensive! This place is really cute, and seems to have great food - but just way too expensive.

I just attended a breakfast event at Ivy Hall Elementary school where the bagels were provided by Original Bagel & Bialy. I hadn't had a bagel from here before, so this is my first taste and experience with them. These bagels are DELICIOUS! They are soft on the inside, but dense enough to form a good crust on the outside. They also have a great homemade quality to them - they are definitely MUUUUCH better than the grocery store varieties, and light years ahead of Dunkin Donuts and Panera. I think these are now my favorite traditional style bagel. Yum!!

The service is terrible. I asked for a cup and I never said what its for. They gave me a cup, I filled it up with lemonade and here comes the old ass guy and says "you asked for a cup for water" I never asked for a cup for water. He grabbed my cup away and kicked me out of the store. The pizza bagel is cold and hard. I think they were laying there for months. The chili is the only good thing I've tried. I normally don't write reviews but people need to know this. At the resturaunt I work in, we don't need an extra dollar or two. If people just want a drink we give em a drink. If they don't have 15¢ or a $1 we just give it to them. Not here at Bagel Bialy. You are lucky with the 2 stars.

My first time visiting - I got the ally triple decker grilled cheese on challah bread which was amazingly cheesy. The chicken noodle soup is bland. Not bad but kinda blah. They have a pretty big menu which can be overwhelming but a lot of choices including some weird ones like Liver sandwich, which I would never be temped to try, sorry not sorry. Would come back here again. The breakfast menu looks pretty good.

So disappointing. I stopped in this afternoon for a quick lunch to go. I have had their trays before with family and their tuna used to be pretty decent. I asked for low fat tuna on a whole wheat bailey. Somehow one scoop of mayo filled tuna on a cold bailey costed $9.27...... The staff were rude and needless to say I will never be back. I'll be bringing my business to Upper Crust Deli on Dundee in Northbrook.

I can't believe I've never reviewed this place since I used to go here all the time growing up on one of my favorite BG plazas with my favorite Jewel, my favorite Buffalo Grove sushi place, Taste of Tokyo, it used to have my favorite Blockbuster, The Best Salon, even good old and ancient Ihop. Okay, anyways, unfortunately this Original Bagel and Bialy is not my favorite deli by any means. The place is spacious with lots of seating options or a great place if you want to run in and get something to go. I've usually gotten something to go from here whether it's one of their little Jewish desserts around the High Holidays or some lox and bagels, I've had my share of interesting things here. Here are where they do get my stars, the people working here are very nice so that's star right there, the place is nice and spacious which is great for a deli where you don't want to feel like everyone is on top of you and they have fantastic nova lox. Okay, so why do they not get the other stars you may ask? The place is called Original Bagel and Bialy and although I can't vouch for their bialys since I'm not the biggest fan in general, their bagels just don't do it. They aren't cheap that's for sure, and they aren't moist nor crunchy, they're just kinda there, kinda blah-ish. I've had many flavors from egg, to plain to sesame and never have they rocked my bagel loving world. Also, their cream cheese is just okay, the plain is actually my favorite there and it's not cheap. So why I don't stop by too often is that I'd like to get all my bagel necessities in one place, like their tasty lox, their decent cream cheese and their eh bagels. I need a place where I can get all my needs met in one place so I don't have to drive around town looking for better bagels. Also, there's been times when I came in too late in the day and all the bagels are super hard from sitting out all day and kinda tasteless at that point. But if you're looking for other things like matzo ball soup or a reuben sandwich than this BG deli spot maybe for you. I know they also have breakfast dishes as well if you're in the area. I wish I loved it like I love everything else on that plaza but unless my friend is making me have lunch there with her than I'm in no rush to come back.

The owner himself decided to help three people in back of me instead of asking me if I needed anything or if I've been helped. My family and I have dined at this restaurant about 10 times, most recently today. You order at the counter, then sit down and they bring you your food at the table. The service is usually quick, and if they happen to be very busy, they have a numbering system to make sure everyone is served in the order of arrival. With today being Mother's Day, they were very busy, and service was still fast. The man who took our order, was a bit hard to understand because he was speaking so quickly and mumbling his words together, but we got the ordering done successfully. My wife and I both had the chopped liver sandwich, which is one of our favorite items here. We both thought it was excellent. If you are a fan of chopped liver, I would highly recommend it. The sandwich is served with a pickle and your choice of potato salad, cole slaw or macaroni salad. We had the potato salad and it was good as well. We also tried the potato latke fries. They were hot, very tasty, and served with your choice of sour cream or applesauce. We also had an everything bagel with vege cream cheese. It was very tasty as well. We brought home a bag of their cinnamon sugar bagel chips, and they are delicious. I highly recommend them. It takes us about 45 minutes to get to this restaurant, and my wife and I both feel it is worth the drive. The food is consistently very good, and we highly recommend this restaurant. They have a huge menu. They are well known for their breakfast, although we have never tried it. We have seen others eating their breakfast items, and they looked good. They also have a large variety of sandwiches, soups, and side dishes available (much more than what we had today). Just a tip, you might want to check out their website first to look at the menu before you get there, so you start figuring out what you would like.

After visiting this place for a corn beef sandwich, I can tell you, go to Wheeling. The Chicago Bagel and Bialy is far better. You don't realize how different a sandwich can be until you have been around. When the meat was put in a microwave to warm it, well I knew this place was not aware of the affect on the flavor. DRY and chewy is not what I expected.

OK to expand upon my brief previous tip which was "Sort of OK for basic deli". Hard to screw up a bagel, but not thrilled with the freshness of the fish (I love Chubs and Sable) . When I lived in the area was in there all the time until it was sold to the current owner. We're talking twice or three times a week, but have never got the time of day from the new owner. Bottom line for a bagel and coffee fine, anything more you can do better.

Disappointed as I visited store on August 25th at 10:45am. I placed an order for a toasted bagel with cream cheese and a cup of coffee. At 11:36am I had to wait in line again to find what is the delay The cashier responded that he went on break and forgot to place my order (with a grin on his face). I fail to see the humor. I asked for a refund as at this point after being humiliated I just wanted to leave. I was then ignored by all three cashiers who refused to even make eye contact. The store owner finally came over and apologized for his staff's mistake and refunded my order. I went to another bagel store down the road that was more than happy to have my business.

Well I feel sort of silly for just trying this place after living in BG for six plus years. I'm glad I finally stopped in. Not just a bagel shop by a mile - a full on Jewish deli with all sorts of goodness. I picked up lunch, plus bagels for the next morning. They have a great combo deal so you choose two items from a half sandwich, soup, salad, plus lots of other things I don't remember. The sandwiches were HUGE and so was the soup portion! Challah bread was delish. Everything was fresh and tasty. Big kids menu with lots of options. The bagels were great, I loved that they had salt as an option, my favorite. Plenty of room to sit and eat there as well - will have to head back to dine in and try their full breakfast menu as well! Little bit pricey but worth it for the food quality.

Stopped in on New Years Eve and one of the owners thanked everyone for coming in and wished them a happy new year. Feels like this small business truly appreciates their customers - which I love! Just wish I could bump up the stars for the taste of the food beyond bagels. --------------- Go for the bagels, other food is just ok. The place is busy on the weekend. Look at the menu online first of its your first time - everyone else there seems to know everyone else so you might have people shouting over you as you try to order or wait in line deli counter style. Which is ok as it lends a neighborhood feel.

I really enjoy this place and everything it has to offer. Getting a warm bialy on my way to work makes the day extra special. Their lunch sandwiches are huge and delicious. I especially like the reuben. For breakfast I've tried a number of dishes. They are good but they're not making mind blowing breakfast here. It's delicious, don't get me wrong. All of their portion sizes are monstrous and you get great value for the buck. Their matzo ball soup is fantastic with a half sandwich, and that for a weekend brunch is all I need until dinner. I also love the Mish mosh when trying to get over a cold. Take that home and you have 3 meals easy. I wish they had a few healthier options, as well as some quick breakfast sandwiches to go. For that I still go to Panera for their breakfast power sandwich. I'll keep coming here as it's the best Jewish deli I know of, and everything is done really well.

I love walking over to this place on a Saturday morning for breakfast. The place is always busy; so if you go with someone, make sure they grab a table. The wait may be long, but I promise it will be worth it. I have had a handful of meals from here, and never been disappointed. I love their corned beef hash with some eggs over easy. The portions are very large- more than some people will be able to eat. There french toast is also terrific, and they make it with challah. This is something you could easily split with someone else. The omelets/scrambles are very good, and the lox are great. Although the prices may be a bit high, the food is great. They also have a huge deli section with every kind of jewish gnosh you can think of.

The bagels are varied and very good. On par with really good bagel places, but not Greenwich at Sixth Avenue-- darn close, however. The upshots are good breakfasts (didn't sample lunch/all-day fare) with good bagels. The schmear is just too much, and can drip everywhere as the viscosity of the cream cheese is not quite as thick as some places. Coffee is good, service is fast, but it can also get very busy instantly here. It all works out. Prices are fair to slightly high, but the flavors make up for any strangenesses. Recommended above many on the N Side of Chicagoland.

I guess if you've never had bagels from New York or New Jersey, than this might be good. I've been on a quest since I moved out here to find remotely comparable bagels to what I grew up with. This is not at all comparable. Here's why we won't be back: First, boo and I walked in and just looking at the bagels we knew these were probably just rolls with holes in the center. But, having drove out there we figured why not give it a try. These bagels remind me of smaller versions of the bagels from that Great American Bagel chain. They weren't boiled before baking the way bagels are supposed to be, hence the rolls with holes in the center analogy. The boiling step gives them that rich chewy texture that that gives them their status as bagels. Second, I ordered egg and cheese on a bagel with pepper and ketchup. What I got was runny eggs (even the whites were runny) with the cheapest american cheese I've seen yet. Not to be too gross but I was throwing up for half the day today. I'm guessing it was the runny eggs? I really wanted this place to be a real good bagel place but wasn't meant to be :( The bagel quest continues and we will NOT be back to this place.

the corned beef, bagels, and matzah ball soup is good. the food is not cheap but it's worth it. expect to pay about $10/person. if you haven't had the matzah ball soup or Reuben wrap, or toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese or potato salad, or lox, get it before you kick the bucket. the matzah ball soup is to die for. yes it gets crowded in the morning - that's to be expected. don't go there in the morning if you are in a hurry. Be sure to grab a number from the ticket machine as soon as you walk in.

While visiting Chicago, I was invited here (July 6th, 2012) by friends in town from California, who used to live in Illinois. I went with an empty stomach, so I could sample as much as possible. I STILL wasn't prepared for the HUMONGOUS servings they gave us! We ate for the next 3 meals on all the yummy food! Chopped liver = had a nice , sweet hint to it. The Matzoh Ball in the soup was HUGE -- almost the size of a tennis ball!!! They make the thickest split pea soup I've had in a restaurant...like I like it!! The noodle kugel was a little too sweet for me, but my friends likened it to french toast. It was still a really awesome choice in restaurants. I'll BE BACK!!! :-D

Seems like it's getting harder and harder to find a good cold roast beef sandwich anymore. I'm not talking about the franchise places - they have their place, though when I do eat at them, it's more for price than quality. Trying to find a nice full-sized sandwich on a good quality sub roll or Jewish rye bread and a slice or two of cheese just isn't as easy as it used to be. I've seen this restaurant advertised on occasion for a few years now, but never tried it. It's towards the corner of a medium sized strip mall and I never think to go there. But I recently had a hankering for a good quality roast beef sandwich and thought I'd give it a try. The "ambiance" is that of a flashy Jewish deli. Good looking offering of meats and salads and a decent sized menu to boot. I opted for a 1/2 roast beef sandwich with Mozzarella cheese (no provolone) and a bowl of matzo ball soup. Add a fountain drink and tax and it's $11.10 for lunch. Just isn't as cheap as it used to be - but given other places I've been to, a fair price, I guess. Anyway, the 1/2 sandwich was fairly substantial as 1/2 sandwiches go. The beef was rare as I like it, but my order "with easy mayo" came out practically sans mayo. Nonetheless, it was pretty good. As for the matzo ball soup... the matzo ball itself was a good size and cooked properly. But the chicken broth was pretty salty and a disappointment. Too bad, because that matzo ball had it goin' on! Fix the broth and the place gets 4 stars. I'll be back to try some of their other offerings - bagels, Reuben sandwich, cole slaw. This place is better than a couple of other local delis, but I still yearn for that overflowing roast beef and cheese sandwich on rye for about $4 that White Hen Pantry's used to make back in my HS days. A sad reminder that those days are long gone.

Stopped by for lunch with the kids today. Been coming here for years. Not a great experience today though. First they messed up on our order- we wanted our sandwich hot but it came out cold. Second and more importantly my son ordered a hot dog kids meal and after taking a couple bites he said it smelled weird. The bread was all moldy with green spots on it. Yuck! They need better quality control here. They did replace the hot dog on a different roll but it doesn't make up for the fact that he ate a moldy hot dog. They were very nice to come out with cookies for the kids though which is way nice. We would still probably come back. Maybe they just had a bad day since it was busy.

This place is situated in a weird strip mall next to a temple that used to be a hardware store. The boyfriend and I stopped in to pick up his mother's order of nearly ten pounds of chopped liver for Rosh Hashanah (big family!) The bagels here are really, really good. Not quite as good as New York/Long Island, but pretty damn close, and way better than anything else I've had in Chicago. The matzo ball soup is absolutely delicious and the matzo balls are huge! It's really almost as good as bubbe's. The chopped liver, though, oh my god... The chopped liver is amazing. Maybe the best I've ever had. I look forward to every bris, bar mitzvah, or holiday so that I can use the excuse to gain five pounds by eating the stuff. This place is -the- place around Chicago for Jewish comfort food.

Sorry but this place officially pissed me now... Been here before and it was great. This time I ordered Nova Lox and Onion scramble. Now I do not use salt at all except on potatoes and very little at that. The second I bit into the scramble the eggs,onions & Nova Lox the taste was awesome till I tasted the Lox... It was so salty I could only eat half the plate and picked out most of the Lox. I asked if Nova was used as I have had it many times and this was terrible. The owner said it was and I debated that fact with him, informing him that I do not eat salt and always order Nova instead of Regular, and this was either not Nova or the worst Nova I have ever had. He made no offer of apology, so while everything else here is very good, I will not be wasting $9 on an egg scramble with lox when I can get a much better one at Continental, Buffalo's, or almost any of the deli's in the area.

I grew up in Buffalo Grove and have been going to this place with my father for years. I now live in Elmhurst and will trek all the way back up north just to pick up their bagels and take my son for breakfast on Sunday mornings. Bagels are always fresh and the lox is unbelievable. If you want to visit one of the best Jewish Delis in the northern suburbs, this is it. Bagels are old fashioned and delicious. Soups are home made. Salmon and Whitefish salads are the best, made from fresh fish, not canned. You can eat in the store if you want.

Every other time i ordered this sandwich at other establishments the sandwiches are served open faced pile high with corned beef, pizza sauce, and melted cheese; Heaven on a plate. i thought this place would serve an awesome one-not! all I got was an open faced bagel, pizza sauce and melted cheese lol NO MEAT!!!!! Totally not cool! I m sure I will be back but this item was a joke and a total rip off. Also sad they had no WI-FI. I would have given 4 stars - I m just dont like to be ripped off!

Love it. Buffalo Grove has always needed a great deli. Glad someone finally pulled it off. Don't love the location, but the place is bright and clean and the service is friendly.

This establishment offers a wide variety of foods from deli sandwiches, to eggs, to pancakes, and obviously bagels. I live around the corner and this is my breakfast or lunch destination. The bagels are the best bagels I have ever had and all the other food is very good also. I gave it four stars because of the service. There is a slight language barrier which occasionally results in a mixup in what the order was. Besides this rare happening I highly recommend it.

I've been here so many times that I really can't count, probably because there really isn't any better place for a sunday breakfast or lunch. On Sunday morning we picked up lox and bagels to go. When you walk in, you grab a number and wait your turn. They are quite quick so even though your number is quite a bit away, don't fret because it will be called before you know it - just take some time to chat with neighbors while you wait (we always run into neighbors, family or friends while we're there). Their lox are always so fresh and their bagels are too. I absolutely adore their sweet and sour cabbage soup which I get every time we eat their for lunch. Also, if you're ever under the weather, I highly recommend just stopping by to grab some matzo ball soup for the road. I've heard it called "jewish penicillin" before but never believed it until I got it from Original Bagel one day when I wasn't feeling well and it worked. So, if you ever find yourself in the area and wondering where to go for breakfast or lunch, check this place out. It's fantastic!

The deli food is good, but is quite expensive. Their bagels are awful, baked without first being boiled. The worst part is that this place is just plain dirty. There are times I have been here when the floor behind the counter and in the back room when the door swings open is just disgusting with discarded scraps of food on the floor. If I want a deli fix I skip this place even though it's just a mile from the home, and head to Skokie.

This place is the real deal. Best corned beef sandwich for miles. Very good bagels, not the soft mushy store bought bagels such as Sara Lee makes.
