This is a clean, customer service oriented restaurant with good quality. Some reviewers thought of criticizing this place, picking a solvable issue, and dwelling on it. My wait staff couldn't be more a accommodating. On the other hand, if cash-only is a substantial issue with you - go somewhere else or save up to have a great breakfast and, I'll bet, a quality lunch.

Really amazing food and great prices. The staff is very friendly and the overall atmosphere and cleanliness are great. Highly recommended for a tasty casual breakfast.

They have great cooks but here's the problem. If you order breakfast. The waitress serves you your breakfast and then she will toast the bread for you. So you never get your breakfast and your toast at the same time. It's always two minutes later. This happens even if there's only two or three people in the restaurant for breakfast. I've also been in the restaurant when the owner, Mary, drags supplies in through the front door On a 20° below day. This place doesn't have double doors so the restaurant cools off quickly. They do have a backdoor however. I checked. This place has a recipe for success, given the ambition and the well executed menu. However, I think the owner isn't seeing the big picture.

after reading reviews, I was a little worried about trying this place out. however...stop the presses....this place is fantastic. I was told that when this place was not very good when it first opened: horrible service and terrible food. I found this place to be my new favorite restaurant in Brookfield! everything is fresh, and made from scratch. they have wonderful 2x2x2x2 options. and the service was stellar...attentive and willing to take the time to tell us about the specials and recommendations. disregard the old reviews...I think this place is hitting its stride now!!! can't wait to go back and try their lunch options too.

I followed Mary from her old place in Westchester. Our group came after worship at church. I had an ham omelette which was tasty. Others in our party had eggs Benedict; chicken salad; and scrambled eggs and toast. The food was excellent as was the service. Their seating is limited. Mary and her staff make up for it with quality food and service. It's worth a stop for breakfast or lunch.

Service - very good and attentive Food - the taste of the chorizo in my Mexican Skillet was excellent, but there were too many potatoes in a large plate (next time I would ask them to crisp up the hash browns in the skillet more). Pancakes were good. Potato pancakes had good flavor but could have been hotter. I were to give advice for the skillet, I would say add a few more veggies and sausage and less potato, and crisp up that potato! Quality over quantity, especially since the skillet comes with pancakes.

Great portions for the price. The owner Mary was very friendly & talked to everyone. The soup was to die for!! Waitress very nice and pleasant. Definetly going back!!

Great job Mary Spino! You are off to a fantastic start! The food is amazing!, I love the warmth of your atmosphere and servers. You are so spunky and positive! It's great how you remember everyone! I especially love your soup. Your varied menu is fantastic with surprise specials daily. What a welcome edition to our local area. Everything on your menu is scrumptious. This is a place you won't visit just once you will be back over and over. No one can compete with her delicious breakfasts and lunches. I only wish you had super too? Come and visit this local treasure of a restaurant. You will love it! Bon Appetit !!!!!!!!!!!

I was so excited to try this new local restaurant. Our server was super friendly and the place looked really spruced up. The food was a bit pricier than I expected. But what was most disappointing was that the owner could not curb her potty mouth in front on my young children who were sitting at the very next table. And it was not one slip up, but over and over again! I was appalled that a business person would have such poor judgement. Mary, I expected better of you.

Expensive! My wife and I tried it and the food was good but very pricey. The service was good and they are very nice. Bathroom situation is rough with little kids. Unless they are serving organic cage free eggs and other organic fare I cannot understand why they charge so much

I was thrilled to see that a breakfast place was opening up down the street from me! When you walk in, it feels very warm, friendly and inviting. We chose our own table and were promptly served coffee and water. We decided on breakfast, even though they serve lunch all day. The ham and cheese omelette came with your choice of cheese, hash browns and toast or pancakes. It came out quickly and was very warm. It was delicious!!! The portions were large and I ended up taking half home. The servers and waitresses were friendly, made suggestions and were very attentive. I would definitely go back again! Can't wait until summer so that I can walk there!

Just came back from having breakfast here. It's a small space, but feels laid out well to maximize their space. It wasn't too busy when we arrived around 10am. We were greeted immediately and had our coffee in no time. Our order arrived very quickly after we placed it. The service was extremely nice, and the food was really good. I went with a ham and cheese omelette that came with pancakes and hash browns and the girlfriend got 2x2 Belgium waffles that came with eggs, sausage, and bacon. We were both very happy with our orders. The prices are very reasonable. Currently, they only accept cash. We will be back to try other items on the menu.

My friend loved her Hobo Skillet and I enjoyed my Angus Burger with cheddar. The fries were nicely done and both our meals came with delicious chicken noodle soup. The price range is about 10 bucks a person with coffee-that seems very reasonable. I'm going back.

Went to this restaurant around 2pm with my fiancé. Glad to see the water served with lemon in a carafe. Since it was lunchtime, I had the Mediterranean wrap, while my fiancé had the ranch wrap. Both came with fries & soup. The soup (clam chowder) was good. The wraps were good & fresh. The fries were nice & crispy. However, what I wasn't expecting came at the end of the meal. We noticed that banana creme pie was listed as one of the pies of the day (the other being chocolate creme.) We decided to try one. Now, I'm not a big banana person by any means. However, I must say the pie was ah-MAY-zing!! Served in a graham cracker crust, with banana filling at the bottom with banana creme on top (yes the creme was banana flavored too!) Fresh banana slices were served on top. Absolutely delicious! Only qualm so far is that they only take cash, but I'm sure they'll address that in the future.

Excellent breakfast stop! The food was great, the service was excellent and quick without making us feel rushed. The owner made the rounds and welcomed us- our server Ellen was fantastic! It was a great find! I don't live close by, but will make sure I stop by whenever I am in the area.

The first thing you need to know is that it's CASH ONLY. The food tends toward unfortunate extremes: very bland eggs, salty bacon, spicy sausage. So the meal was only 2 stars. The friendly service and cleanliness increases the rating. I sense they're new to the business and need to find their footing.

My review is based a recent Friday morning experience. My wife and I were seated right away and the establishment looks nice. The problem was with my wife's ham and cheese omelet. Omelet had visible areas of black on the top when served. Thinking it might only be on the outside, my wife cut into it. However, it was all over the inside as well. Big large areas. Omelet did not taste bad, but it appeared that the grill was not cleaned. Unappealing. My wife lost her appetite and notified the waitress. Waitress was apologetic and offered my wife another meal. We were not charged for the breakfast, but my wife left hungry and dissatisfied. Also, I think the menu is a bit pricey. Under SPECIALS, a 2x2x2 is 7.99, but that is not a special. Another Brookfield restaurant has the same special for 3.99. My eggs benedict was 10.99, which seemed a bit inflated. I might think twice before heading back.

Staff was super friendly attentive and just plain nice. Food was awesome can't say a bad thing at all both people I was with loved their food too. Go and enjoy.

I was hungover like Charlie Sheen at a Baptism. Jenny and I jogged here bc she wasn't gonna let me roll on top of her and I didn't have breakfast items. Mary's is soooooo good!!! Mexican Skillet is bomb! With pancakes too! Jenny loves the pumpkin ones the best. Coffee is great but the portions for the price you can't go wrong!

I came in on a Sunday morning with pretty high hopes for Mary's. I had heard nothing but absolutely amazing things from my colleagues. In fact, the praise had been so high I was expecting a life changing breakfast. The place is incredibly small and there is no hostess stand. If you are like us and it is your first time, you have no idea what to do. The hostess was wearing plainclothes and seated with a table towards the back as we walked in. We had no idea she was even the hostess until she approached us with menus after we had just taken a seat. The breakfast menu was very much lacking in my opinion. There was a handful of skillets, a variety of 2x2x2 selections and a few basic breakfast options. Boyfriend was incredibly disappointed that they lack a biscuits and gravy option but that they have a 2x2x2 with biscuit and gravy option. I found myself disappointed that you couldn't add fruit to your pancakes or french toast. The food wasn't horrible. It was average. There was nothing special about it. The service was average. It was an all around average experience that really left me wanting more from it.
(2)Meg F.
Food was average, service was average. There were a ton of locals who all seemed to know the staff which I find charming. Even still, I wouldn't go back.

This place is fantastic. The service is great, the food is delicious & the prices are reasonable. What more can you ask for in a breakfast place?
(5)P K.
Other than one time getting under cooked waffles, the food is not bad. Reason for the low rating is the price, pretty high for what you get and the area. Yia Yia's in North Riverside has better portions for a lower cost, so does Tony's in Brookfield. I'll still go there when I'm short on time, but I would go there more often is she adjusted the prices to fit the food and area.

My skillet was perfection. Yes as a Floridian I prefer it made slightly different, but change can be good. Mary's hits the spot. My server turned friend Kim taught me that there is such a thing as Chicago hospitality and it's awesome (technically it's not really in Chicago but just go with it) . I highly recommend Mary's for delicious food, great hospitality and even the other patrons. The gang at the next table just introduced themselves and invited me to join them. How cool is that? I am full and happy. Now Making plans for breakfast tomorrow and it's a definite yes that I'll be back.

Mary's is our go to breakfast place for all of Brookfield - Berwyn - riverside area. We have loved the Mexican skillet special, the pies (all of them), and the soups. The hospitality is always 100% caring and kind. It seems like the employees really love working here too! We are grateful for this place! We have been to all of the other breakfast places in the area! This is the best!

After reading an article in the local newspaper, the Landmark, about a new diner that opened up in Brookfield earlier this month, I knew I had to stop by for a visit. Even though I could not find the menu anywhere online and the only place I've been able to find the restaurant's hours was in the newspaper article, I decided to drop by for breakfast. (For the record, the hours are 6 AM-3PM 7 days a week.) We were seated right away by Mary herself and our waitress took great care of us, even if she was a bit busy. I ordered the hobo skillet, which consisted of hash browns, eggs, and cheese (cheddar or American) with a choice of either toast or pancakes (I chose pancakes). For just under $6, this was a bargain! The serving size was generous and I had more than enough to bring home as leftovers. The hash browns were cooked to perfection, as were the eggs. I was also pleased that there was the perfect amount of cheese--just enough to get that great taste and consistency, but not enough to clog your arteries. Mary's Morning Mixup is more about the food, though. The atmosphere was homey and inclusive, decked out in cute Valentine's Day decorations (included heart-shaped doilies on the tray with the syrup and powdered sugar). The energy was positive and the staff were very welcoming. Dining here almost felt like we were being welcomed into a family! My only suggestions are to accept credit cards as a form of payment and to hire more waitstaff. Our delightfully friendly waitress was spread a bit too thin among all the tables, which led to a slight lapse in service (in terms of wait time). Of course, MMM is brand spanking new and kinks such as these can be forgiven. If I ever happen to have cash on me and I'm in the mood for some filling and affordable classic diner food, I'll be happy to swing by Mary's Morning Mixup (and you should, too!).

I gave it one last try as the food was really good the many times I ate there. As usual, the owner greeted some people like dear friends, and ignored others. Not just no greeting, but not even a smile as she sat by the register. I figured the first time she was just having a bad day but this last visit I just realized, this wasn't going to be a restaurant where I felt like a valued customer.

Tried this place out due to yelp reviews. I thought the service was pretty good, always had someone filling our coffee and attending to drinks. This place is small, but Mary seemed pretty inviting, even giving people waiting outside some coffee. My wife got the 2x2x2x2 with French toast. She even said the sausage was good, even though she hates sausage. I got the Mexican skillet with homemade chorizo, tomatoes and jalapeños. Was good, hash browns needed to be salted a little bit, but no real big complaints. As there is not that much competition in the area, I recommend this place. I just wish there was more options on the menu and more original items.

Decent food at OUTRAGEOUS prices for breakfast. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, food and coffee always good. Great quirky place. Could totally be a hidden Gem and go to spot if Mary brought the price point down to reality. Or at least have a handful of options (egg special, pancakes, skillet or omelet ) $4-$6. It's the only thing holding this place back. Common Mary! I know you have it in you

Very good-- small with limited seating but rumor is that their moving to a larger site in the spring .Food is wonderful and pancakes are great Best breakfast in Brookfield hands down Really fair prices sells it

Tried it today after reading good yelp reviews. I was starved after an early morning flight from the East Coast. Denver omelet super yummy people great place clean and pleasing. Can't wait to bring my wife and daughter here too!!

We can't visit Chicago without a breakfast skillet at Mary's! Great food, friendly people, and great service. We want her in Philly!
(5)Jessica S.
Even though their focus is on breakfast, there's a lot of variety on Mary's menu. But take note, the hollandaise sauce she makes is amazing! Plus the service is good even when it's busy. Mary's is a real hidden gem and I'd highly recommend checking it out.
(5)Matt D.
I enjoy everything about Mary's except the bacon. The bacon is truly terrible and a routine disappointment. If the bacon game were to be kicked up a notch, I'd be a 5-star regular.
(4)Lauren Q.
Adorable little diner with great service and lots of menu choices. Me and the two people I was with greatly enjoyed our meals. We had eggs benny, potato pancake benny, french toast (as a side that we all shared) and meat lovers skillet between us. Lots of good food. Gotta say though- definitely overpriced. The food was good but it but wasn't worth $60. Quite pricey for breakfast. Maybe they have to raise their prices since they only have so many tables in their restaurant? Who knows. I would be more likely to go back if prices became more reasonable- I can get food just as good, if not better, for a more reasonable price. Still Worth trying though!
