What can I say, this chicken spot is really good. I think there is crack in the sauce, because I absolutely love the sauce they place on the chicken and dinner rolls. I have eaten from this spot on 3 different occasions, and I am never disappointed.

Not like the old days, this chicken place has gone downhill. They cant see the decline in customers due to the outrageous prices, service, and quality of chicken being served now. On this strip of Roosevelt road, there are three other chicken joints that are priced better. This establishment needs to really think before they will be force to close their doors. One star rating is really generous.......

Hello get a clue, I went to Uncle Remus last month and ordered there pan special. What I received was chicken that looked like it came from a Cornish hen and sauce that was barely drizzled over my chicken like it was chocolate syrup on a Sunday. I know that I come here for the sauce so it would be great to actually get some. Please stop skimping on the food and customer service.

The chicken at this location is decent but one on central is a lot better. I went there the other day only to find that they have raised their prices. So I left.

So I should've followed my first mind and went to the location on Central. I didn't feel like driving so I went to the Broadview location. I ordered a Grab pan mix and fries. The chicken was fried twice the inside of the chicken was dark and the skin of the chicken was so over cooked you could've seriously broken a tooth. So I called and the young lady place me on hold then some bootleg manager got on the phone. I asked so are you all re-frying chicken over there he respond no. I'm like the chicken is so overcooked and looks as if they had fried it a second time. I'm so disgusted and upset with this purchase. I'm saving this chicken to see if the board of health can help me since the bootleg manager told me I would have to bring it in for another order as if I'll trust them to cook me some more food.

Originally from Cali but in town for the week and saw this place on Yelp with a little under 4 stars so decided to give it a try for lunch. The place is a bit barren with a few small tables and the customer service was not present at all, so not a good start. Ordered rib tips but they didn't have any available so decided to go with the chicken and tilapia combo. After about 10 minutes, I received my order which turned out to be okay. The chicken and tilapia had the hot sauce drizzled on top of it versus dipped into it so the whole piece actually was not flavored the same, with parts of just fried chicken. I asked if they had any dipping sauce for the fries and fried okra, like ketchup or ranch, which they did not. Overall, the food was okay but the service was not good, which brought down my overall experience and rating.

How do you call yourself a restaurant and you run out of rib tops on a Saturday night at 8:00 pm! Not a good way to run a business!
(1)Alberto P.
I must say I been too this place twice the chicken is great but that's pretty much it the fries are dry then they Soaked the fries in mild sauce too give the flavor cause there dry as hell and the dinner roll is as hard as a rock and the service is just like the service u would get at the dmv very rude and unprofessional

Best fried chicken I've had in a long time... the taste goes far beyond that highly over-rated Harald's Chicken Shack. Their wing size is good and the sauce is awesome... it's worth the trip to the Westside. They even give you buttered rolls instead of 2 pieces of stale bread. Yay!!
(5)Carly H.
They seriously have the best chicken in town. Their mild sauce is incredible. My husband swears by the hot sauce, spicy just isn't my thing. Prices are affordable too. They do a good job keeping the place clean. My only feedback is the lady that takes the orders. It's the same one every time I go in there. She needs to work on being friendlier. At my last visit, 3 customers complained about her attitude.

I absolutely LOVE this chicken! BUT... the customer service is lacking and they move slower that molasses in a blizzard!
(3)I D.
The service sucks but I guess I shouldn't expect anything greater from these types of businesses. They don't accept call in orders under $35 which is ridiculous so I had to wait over 12 minutes in the store with a lot if hoodlums! The food was good (for what it was) but it looked like it was just thrown in the bag.... In fact I hesitated on eating it because the napkins were just balled up on top ewww but I was too hungry to drive all the way back up there.
(2)Nonya B.
I tried to call in my order and was told I couldn't unless it was $20 or more. That's stupid!

I love uncle Remus. The problem is they are right in the ghetto. Independence blvd. and Roosevelt is where no one should be. If you don't get robbed or shot you'll love the food. They put the sauce on with a huge brush so it's loaded perfectly. The fries are good as well. I always get wings fried hard with extra mild sauce and fries. The fried okra is also good. Good food but don't go alone.

I made the mistake of ordering rib tip combo the chicken was good the tips were like rubber bricks I could not eat it at all . Don't go late cause the will give you what ever they have. If they won't eat it/cant cause its not edible. why sell it to me covered with sauce. Have some business pride

This really isn't that different from Harold's Chicken Shack but my significant other seems to think so. The only difference I see is that one chain is more concentrated in the Western parts of Chicago and the other chain on the South. And I believe all the chicken "shacks" in Chicago are relatively cheap so prices are good for me. The menus are damn near identical. I ordered chicken tenders and fries here. The sauces taste similar too. Overall, I liked it. Because I like fried chicken and spicy sauces....oh & hot fries. Oh & as one commenter on here Yelped, they were kind of cheap and skimpy with the sauce. Like geez! I went to this particular Uncle Remus in December 2012 (last month), it appeared to be renovated or new. Since I am not familiar with the area, I don't know if it was already there or just all out new. The customer service was decent as well. And somebody commented that it was hot in this establishment; I can not agree with that. It was pretty cold considering it was December in Chicago lol

Chicken is ok the service is horrid. Tried to explain they charged me 30 cents for peppers and the sign said 25 the cashier lady said no that's including tax" I said well there is tax charged for everything at the bottom she said that's something different. Then she snatched my receipt. Later to find out they never even gave me my peppers!! I was so mad but I wasn't about to go back for three peppers. Actually I'm never going back and I will spread my experience! What kind of tax is 5 cents on a 25 cents item?

Just moved to Maywood a couple blocks from Remus so decided to check the place out. Cheap, good, and no frills. Friendly patient staff. Medium Popcorn chicken for 2.99. Enough chicken to feed two people. Love it! Only three stars because no AC. Tried to eat there but sweat the whole time and had to bring the rest home to eat. If you're looking to eat on the cheap, check out Uncle Remus.

This is a hood restaurant plopped down in the suburb of Broadview. The average customers can sometime show up ordering in their pajamas, house shoes, sagging pants, etc. I just try to not pay attention to the wardrobes or the loud cell phone conversations that are the usual. Now down to the staff. They all have the same stoic, clone-like dry a** personalities, quite similar to the currency exchange chicks. If you get a smile, go play the lottery because it's your lucky day. Food can take some time to cook, but I suppose that's a good thing, since it's freshly cooked to order. They are very good for running out of hot peppers, fish- basically anything other than chicken & fries. Just giving a heads up from my experience. To better avoid some bland chicken, ask them to make sure that they season your food, since it wasn't last time you ordered. Hey, it worked for me anyway! The fish is better in my opinion than the famous chicken; that is WHEN/IF they have it available. It's just smaller cuts than JJ's & more expensive, but tastes waaaaay better. You can dine in, if you like. I would most likely never do that since I have yet to see anyone working there clean the tables. Parking can be troublesome since they share the area with a seemingly popular liquor store behind the restaurant.

Located on the NW corner of Roosevelt and 18th Street, there is angled street parking up on 18th Street. The menu is pretty straightforward at the front of the store and you order on the right. There's a fair amount of seating at tables and counter space with stools. The fountain drinks are on the left. It closes at 10 during the week and 11 on weekends. I ordered the rib tips/chicken combo and ordered dark. They didn't have any hot sauce left so it was just mild sauce, which wasn't bad. The breading on the chicken was pretty good. It was thick and crumbly and absorbed a good amount of the sauce. The chicken was properly cooked and the meat came off the bone pretty well. The chicken size was pretty decent. The rib tips were meaty. They had some grill marks but a piece or two was a little tough. The only thing holding me back from 5 stars is with the value. Two dark pieces and 2 large rib tips with another boneless tip, some fries, and a small roll was $7.99+tax. The quality was pretty good but it was a little pricey. I think I'll go back and try the 5 wings for $5.79.

If you think KFC or Popeyes is good, check this place out!

There is much to be desired when it comes to this Uncle Remus, but the turkey tips isn't one of them. I only suggest the chicken; the fish and turkey ribs are a waste of money. The service is ghetto. I ordered a big pan of chicken a day in advance and called to make sure everything was ready for pick-up and when I got there order wasn't ready!! My intention was to pay for the food and b/c I had to go back to work. Instead had to waste time sitting there waiting for an order I called in a day in advance and verified that same morning. I spoke to a co-worker who ordered chicken from Popeyes for a big event-I think I will be ordering from Popeyes for any future catering orders and give Uncle Remus a rest.

First, they need to update their menu. Since they changed their prices, all you see is product description. They don't have any alternative menus. You have to ask the cashier for pricing. Second, the chicken was well cooked. Nice, crispy, juicy. Yet, it was bland. The only way it was edible was with the sauce. That somewhat sweet, yet tangy mild sauce was ok. As for the sides, the fries & fried okra was bland. Maybe I went on a bad night. There were a lot of customers in the place, but the service was a bit slow. I could've saved $2 and had a more satisfying meal at the Popeye's a few blocks down. Very disappointing.

ive been goin 2 the uncle remus on madison on the west side 4 a long time now but i was visitin a friend over here so i came to this location instead. i was a bit disappointed by the lack of mild sauce on my chicken & fries cuz i specifically asked 4 a lot of sauce. i ordered a grab pan so i had 2 get a lot of sauce on them. even though it wasnt enough sauce i still love the chicken & fries. i dont really need the rolls but i'll eat em since they come with the order. however, i think i like the west side location better.

This place is a dump. I have actually seen chicken dropped on the floor and hurriedly dropped in the grease. I ate there once and was sick like a dog. Great place to eat if you are looking to catch botchulism. They cut the fish, meat and chicken on the same surface without wiping it off and the workers look dirty and unkept.
(1)Michelle F.
Watch out. You'll eat too much if you get your hands on the hot wings. Sauce is so finger licking...mmm...It's been a while, I'll have to go back soon.
