India is the birth place of Chicken Tikka Masala and Curries. Indian foods are prepared with a blend of finely mixed spices quite popular across the region. The spices develop the rich taste in Indian food enough to boggle your mind. The ever-increasing fan base of Indian food around the New York city is steadily increasing because of the large number of Indians who traveled to the land of dreams. The Indians also brought their very own vibrant, colorful, and aromatic authentic dishes for the people in the West. While most of the Indian population is Vegetarian, Indian food is great for people who are looking for vegan or vegetarian food option. If you are a Meat lover, don't get disappointed yet. Indian food also boasts of some popular non-vegetarian dishes too. Few examples are the famous Butter Chicken, Mutton Biryani and Tandoori Chicken are enough to satisfy your taste buds.

I am vegetarian, so many may not find this review 'complete'. I was really disappointed with this restaurant... Starters like Idaly-Sambar did not taste authentic. Not much variety for veg people. Main course was really disappointing, no Paneer, and rest vegetables were not much suitable to eat with Tandooor Rotis. The worst part of Deserts, only 2 deserts, which were too sweet and not very great in taste either.

Everything tasted great, great flavor, BUT if you don't like spicy you should probably go someplace else because everything, with the exception of a few dishes, was spicy. I got the impression we should have received nan upon being seated, but we had to ask for ours after 1/2 the meal was over. Our drink order was never taken, but I'm not sure they served anything other than water and wine because that's all that was on everyone's tables. Not one soft drink or even ice tea was insight.

I ordered a curry and dessert for an event and everyone liked it. Potato peas masala and badam halwa were.good.

Few days back, I went to this place and that was my last time ever visiting this place. When I reached there , the host asked me to share a table though there were many vacant tables. I guess I was alone so they did not want me to get a full table. I declined sharing the table. So, they gave me a table . But, then there was another guest who was alone and they made him sit on my table with me. By that time, I had lost my cool because of the behavior and pathetic quality of food. I hope Mayuri gets to understands this industry one day.

I went for dinner over the summer with co-workers and we all opted for the Dosa special. Hey, have to say it was great, a good bargain, and fun to eat while we chatted. Everything else was disappointing. I asked for spicy and the waiter brought me mild. He also decided that he wasn't going to bring over my orders of Naan that I ordered to have with my entree. I'm pretty sure my chicken had been sitting out under the heat lamps...it just simply wasn't fresh. One of the people I was dining with ordered fish curry, and for some reason it looked exactly like my Tikka Masala dish....hmmm.....do they think we are just dumb or what? So, ultimately, I might give them another shot one day but I'd like to see if they actually have the ability to serve up a variation of curries or if they are just hashing out the same junk to customers who don't know any better. Perhaps they just had a bad night and the cook was slacking off but giving me a bargain on Dosas won't be enough to inspire me to return if they can't deliver on main courses....

Rip Off!!! I ordered Chicken Tikka curry for a take out, once I open it, I see Paneer along with chicken....it is a cheat....felt so bad...customer should not be taken for a granted ...when they don't respect customer money, this place lost its respect...

I love this place. I've only been for the lunch buffet, but I'm kind of hooked. I'm vegetarian and there are always several good options, and always something a little different. Usually one crowd-favorite like a paneer or spinach curry, and one that is some kind of battered and fried(?) vegetable that is soo spicy and good, plus some dal, some kind of appetizer (sometimes pakora, sometimes not) and another dish or two. (The buffet is usually more than half meat for all your meat eaters out there.) The veggies are actually my favorite -they are hard to explain but are often deep orange or red from the batter and spices, and don't stay crunchy. This doesn't sound like a good thing but the texture is AMAZING. I seriously crave these with my whole body! Table service is basic but friendly and attentive. They bring nan and water and can take orders for other beverages. There's also plenty of dessert, fruit, condiments, yogurt, etc. at the smaller buffet so you can help yourself to all of that too. Sometimes lunch gets VERY busy but it's worth the wait.

Consistently good food. Over crowded sometimes resulting in poor service. Will go again and again. Best Andhra food with in 100 mile radius.

In short - Fantastic food. I have eaten here many many times and never got disappointed. Tasted buffet here once - they had paal kuzhi paniyaram and kothimira chutney, both were fabulous. They even bring lunch boxes to my office - both vegetarian and non-veg for $6 per box. It contains 2 naans, 1 gravy, biriyani, 1 dry dish, raitha and sweet. My fellow American colleagues too love it a lot.

Good food sometimes, Buffet is good Order to make is not consistent at all, Sometimes 3/5 is super spicy and sometimes 5/5 is mild. Overall an "OK" place to eat.

Haven't been here in a year, but the food and service was excellent as always. Dosas came out lightening fast! Owner/manager took the time to greet us and ask us how we liked the food. This was a Saturday night and very surprised how well the handled the busy environment. Will come again.

We've eaten here 3 times now and each time is better than the previous visit. The food is absolutely sensational and the service is terrific. Skip the Boring National chains and try out this treasure - your taste buds will thank you!

I am a New Yorker. My family and friends know I am a tough critic since I've been spoiled by all the incredibly wonderful restaurants in NY. Let me tell you, if you have eaten in NY/NJ restaurants such as Hoysala, Saravana Bhavan, Anjappar Chettinadu, Arusuvai, etc. then you know there is probably not a restaurant in the USA that could be better than these. Mayuri in this small city of Bloomington, IL really surprised me not only for the quality but the variety of foods that are being offered. And they maintain the quality and the variety week after week. I've been going there almost every weekend for the past 9 months, and it's funny that each time I splurge there, I feel it is better than my experience in the previous weekend!!! It has a legitimate claim to being among the Top 10 Indian Restaurants in the USA. Start the weekend with the buffet. It is simply delicious even by New York standards. The Hydrabadi Biriyani is its crown jewel. The tandoori chicken is equally delicious and spicy. The Butter Naan (or the Garlick Butter Naan) are served hot and they're delight to anyone's palettes. The Dal Curry was so good that I used to buy it for use at home. Another surprise is their Gongura Goat Curry. I must admit, I don't eat goat anywhere outside because they don't clean off all the fat and the goat tastes awful. The Gongura Goat Curry is an exception. I enjoy it with Naan. I am not a food critic to review every dish. The other items on the menu such as iddly, dosa, steamed rice, sambar, different types of chutneys, pickles, etc are all good. Wrap up your Mayuri experience with 3 of the different types of desserts offered each week -- mango fruit mix, bread pudding, vermicelli payasam, gulab jamun, kesari. A masala chai is also offered for free that helps soothe your digestive engines that are busy trying to digest all the wonderful food you just ate. After you enjoy all the good food, as you walk out feeling surprised that the bill is so reasonable, don't forget to taste a spoonful of the spices (fennel seed with a touch of sugar) to freshen your breath. My only disappointment is that they don't offer rasam (pepper water) which is a fixture in almost every Indian restaurant. Being a Southern Indian, I resent it very much. Adding that would be perfecting a near-perfect restaurant.

Best samosas I've ever had-spicy, flaky and delicious. Also ordered the chicken tikka masala, which had a very good tang and a nice kick. I live in Chicago and have eaten a lot of Indian food, and this is some of the best I've had. Note: if you don't like spicy food order dishes mild.

I think Mayuri deserves a newer review. This Southern Indian cuisine buffet has lots of choices. The food is spicy and delicious! The atmosphere is not red, but tastefully decorated with 2 new TVs on the walls. It was clean, the staff was friendly, and the food was delicious. A definite must try.

For starters, this restaurant did not appear to be finished. It has been there for at least five months and the decor was baron to say the least. There was a lot of red. I sat in one of the pink booths The menu seemed normal for an Indian Restaurant. Between that and my actual food, the rest was somewhat painful. There was no dedicated server to tables. I had three servers which were the same three servers that every table had. This led to me be asked every question three times. Also, they checked the bill four times in ten minutes to see if I was ready to pay, mostly from confusion. Between that and a lot of yelling from the staff to other staff members, the communication was pretty poor. Paper table cloths are a big turn off. I wouldn't call them table cloths because they were sheets of paper from a large ream that were torn off and had my table number on them written with a sharpie. The gentleman who ran the register spent most of this time yelling to other people. When he wasn't, he was directly behind me with a speaker that went to the television in front of me. He had it up pretty loud along with the sound on the television itself. There was a good 1 second delay between the two so even if I was interested in the show it would have been incomprehensible. It seemed that all other tables that were seated (all three) were also facing mass confusion. I have eaten at a few Indian establishments and this one was the worst I have been to. The location seemed unfinished and the employees seemed more lost than not. When I ordered my food, the employee didn't know what it was and had to read it off of the menu. She could have been new but she seemed the most knowledgeable of the servers. The only positive was the food. It was good despite my chicken vindaloo being pretty short on the chicken for the twelve dollar price point. Based on the other reviews and my experience I most likely won't return.

I had some delicious goat curry here, good naan too. It also reheated well in the microwave.

Let's start by saying this place JUST opened, so I will probably try it again, in a year or so. Why 2 stars? Got there- waited 10 minutes for a table with no employee visible...all in back. The place is eerily redly lit. I mean it's like being inside cupid's satchel. It made it so I couldn't see the food I was eating and reading the menu was PAINFUL. The plates and glasses were plastic, which is ok, but I don't associate a $12 per dish restaurant with those things. All 4 dishes we had were sort of sweetish...not terrible, just odd. My food was only warmish and there was a lot of sauce but not a lot of chicken No one asked us how spicy we wanted it, which is fine for me, but if you are eating with people who don't like spice, this won't work Getting our check took ridiculously long. Even when looking DIRECTLY at the register person They only seem to have water and mango lassis? Again, this may be because they are so new. A LOT of people were getting take out.

I usually start out my reviews by describing the decor. The decor at Mayuri can be described in one word: red. Very very very very red. All the lights are red. Not the lamp shades are red, no the lightbulbs are red. The entire restaurant has a red glow to it. It makes otherwise delicious food look awful. It makes the menu difficult to read.It makes attractive people look washed out. God forbid you have a redhead with you, they'll look like a ghost. I don't mean to go on and on about the red, but it's annoying. I debated giving Mayuri a 2, the red was that annoying. If the owner reads this, please I beg of you get rid of the red lights. Okay to the food. The food is different than Puran or Little India. Prices are similar, quantity is similar, taste is sweeter. Every dish at Mayuri tasted sweet, like everything had sugar mixed in at the last minute. I didn't care for it. There also was not a option to choose how spicy one wanted each dish (or even an explanation of how spicy each particular dish might be). Each dish could have used some more kick in my opinion. The garlic naan was delicious. They don't serve beer or wine at all. The water came in plastic cups without ice. The food was served on melamine plates. Service was polite and somewhat slow. My friends doing the low carb thing were questioned when they did not order any Naan with their meal. (Although I can't fault Mayuri for this.) I'll try Mayuri again in a couple months. Hopefully they won't have red lights by then.

This was one of my fav indian restaurant out of three in bloomington but as time went they have degraded their taste. I am not sure if their master chef left the job or what. They can definitely do better.

On the buffet table today: okra masala, bittergard curry, palak paneer, gobi manchuri, upma, idli, punugulu, veg pulao, sambar, lotso meat options and a nice cold bar as well

Iam from Chicago and Went there for a dinner saturday night on my way back from a nearby town. Me ordered a Dosa and it was HUGE. Taste was good. Wife ordered Fried rice, again the quantity was big. Taste was ok. Overall i think it a decent place in town.

This place is fantastic! I went there with my daughter who goes to ISU one weekend when I was visting her. We are from Chicago and have some of the best Indian food here, but this place was better than any I tried in Chicago! The Chili Chicken Appetizer was to die for. It had the best flavors and was spicy the way I like it. We had the butter chicken which was wonderful and full of flavor. The potato dumpling squares as an appetizer was equally good. The galic nam had real qarlic on it and was so soft and good. I love this place and will be back again when I get down to Bloomington again. Better yet, this place is a BYOB so you can bring in your own wine or beer and it keeps the tab down. Go here you will not be disappointted.
