Many moons ago I lived just down the street from this charming family run place. I have since moved but I always eat here whenever I'm in town. The husband and wife always remember my son and I and I always ask about their son. They are a delightfully friendly couple and they consistently put out delicious food! Even with all of my Asian dining choices in Chicago, I still crave the Shrimp and Chinese Vegetables from Golden Dragon in downtown Bloomington. The decor isn't fancy but it reminds me of eating at a friend's parents house, which I kind of like. Plus, I feel like the other Chinese food choices in BloNo are buffets where the food comes in frozen and pre-made and are then dumped into a steamer to be "cooked." So if you want good food, made with love and a little character, this is definitely where you want to go.

I just moved here from the West Coast and I had a hankering for some Chinese food. Unfortunately, I picked the Golden Dragon for my first foray into Bloomington Asian food. The restaurant was clean enough for a quick eatery and the man behind the counter was very nice. I ordered Kung Pao chicken, extremely spicy. The meal came quickly but was a severe disappointment. The entree was served over a mountain of rice which was far larger than the entree itself. The dish wasn't spicy at all. The dish was "saucy", meaning the meat and other ingredients were encased in a congealed mess of tasteless sauce. The consistency of the sauce and soggy nature of the ingredients reminded me of having canned Chung King Chinese food from the 60's. The food was that bad.

The worst Chinese food I have ever had. I had Sesame chicken to eat in. The portions were very small. The chicken pieces for the smallest I have ever seen in sesame chicken. I could hardly taste the chicken. The appetizers were overcooked and tasteless. The won ton soup was pretty bad. The won tons looked like they had been sitting in the broth for hours. Even the rice was bad. And how can a Chinese restaurant ruin white rice?

Have been here once and had no complaints! Much better quality and seating than any other Chinese place I have been in town. The staff was very friendly too. Only complaint is that they don't make their own sweet and sour sauce.. They give it to you in packets. I had the general tsao's chicken and loved it. Will definitely try it out again.

I've been eating at Golden Dragon for almost 10 years now and it is consistently delicious. They are very fast and you get a mountain of food for not a lot of money. The egg rolls are probably some of the best I've had at a fast food Chinese place. I normally get Beef Broccoli or Beef Snow Peas. Always good. We also usually order General Tso Chicken but you have to be sure to ask for spicy. The owners are the sweetest and so friendly. I'm pretty sure they work non-stop as I always see them when I eat there. Ignore the other reviews and give this place a try. My mouth is watering just thinking of it!

I will cut a place in Bloomington a lot of slack simply because it's a small town and the people here aren't very sophisticated. Having said that, my experience with this place was so dreadful I feel that I must warn the public or utterly fail in my responsibility to my fellow humans. Yes - the place is musty. The indoor/outdoor carpet apparently got wet some years ago - perhaps in a flood - and hasn't been cleaned since. The walls and ceiling are dirty. The most telling sign though is the light switch plates. Totally filthy. I got a to-go order of the Hunan beef (spicy), two egg rolls and an order of hot and sour soup. The egg roll that I ate (yeah I was really hungry so I ate all of it) had a strong hint of some harsh cleaner. I couldn't bring myself to eat the other one out of fear it would make me seriously ill. I opened up the container of Hunan beef and winced. It was a pile of goop next to some dry white rice. Absolutely the worst looking stuff I have seen in more than fifteen years. It seriously looked like a can of La Choy that went into the microwave but I think the La Choy would have been better. I took a small taste out of curiosity. Disgusting. I immediately threw it in the trash. I took the lid off the hot and sour soup to see what it looked like but I did not dare to taste it. It went into the garbage with the rest of it. $11.75 for an egg roll that I am hoping doesn't have my trying out my new health insurance benefits. I have done my duty. You have been warned.

Standard Chinese restaurant. The food was good - my favorite was the wonton soup and eggrolls. Meals are about $5; "special meals" include soup, eggrolls, wonton, and rangoon and run about $10. The staff was super friendly. I ate in. But their sign said they do carry-out and delivery too. When eating in, you order at a counter and they bring your food to you. The restaurant itself is pleasantly quiet. Overall, I'd go back when I have a craving for Chinese food.

I have eaten here twice...and both times were fine! I would say that it's a good place to go for a pretty quick lunch. The decor is sorta basic and not very exciting, but not horrific, either. Its quick, rather inexpensive Chinese Food.

I consider this the undiscovered gem of Chinese food in Bloomington/No. Excellent fried rice, Szechwan shrimp, and the Cantonese fried noodles are extra special. We are always very satisfied when we are done, and sometimes order some to take home.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
