Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Just average Italian food. Nothing like the Capri in Burr Ridge.

Rude owner with poor service... Not worth the visit

Decent food but terribly rude management. Maybe some training in customer service would help.

I'm recovering from a stem-cell transplant and my taste buds are out of whack. Unfortunately I find that a dish I would love is untasteful to me. We recently dined at Capri in Berwyn and the flavors of the chicken dish I ordered were too strong for me. The manager immediately noted a problem, removed my chicken, and replaced it with an excellent plate of risotto. He made what could have been an embarrassing experience into a very positive one.

I don't know where to start: Service: waited 7-10 minutes at the front for the host to arrive, I've never had this happen in all my years of dining, I almost left. was told there were no seats and we would have to wait at the bar for awhile then as I am seated at the bar I was staring at open tables in the back room. Since they don't take reservations it was really unusual to stare at empty tables. After 3 minutes the host got us and sat us at the table we were staring at. Food service was good and very fast, entree was served half way through soup. waiter was good but had a creepy feel to the whole meal. Food: Peppers as an appitizer were a nice addition to bread, Chicken Parmigiana was very good. I would probably get take out next and avoid awful host

Take out was amazing, can't wait to dine in! Recommended by a co-worker who eats at the Burr Ridge location we were excited to try this place, but could not get a sitter. However, our take-out experience was wonderful. Looked at menu online, ordered with hostess and 20 minutes later was back at home. Chick Parm was wonderful, but really, really enjoyed the Shirmp Lingini. Even their side salad was super yummy. We will be back and dine in next time - can't wait to try their wine selection!

First off , it's a tiny place with lots of tables...they seated me in an off side table ...using my groupon the waiter told me what I could order ( felt like a second class citizen) and then the salad came...but they pre spritz it with oil (lots of it). My date nearly sent it back but I offered to eat it. The bread we had to ask for it...and then it was very dry.. then the main course came. .lots of pasta but little meat in it. We had some house wine but it was somewhat overpriced at $8.00 a glass (I could have bought better wine at $8.00 a bottle). We finished the meals then before we left the waiter counted the tip between his fingers and glared back at us - like it wasn't enough - very tacky. I don't recommend it as a family place since the hostess has the shortest skirt I've ever seen and she kept bending over!! As a special once in a while place ..it's lacking since it's got the shortest menu I've ever seen. Enough said... I don't think I'll be back.

IMPECCABLE SERVICE AND GOOD FOOD. We tried this out on a groupon tonight. I was a bit apprehensive after reading a few reviews that were not favorable about the service. This was absolutely not our experience. We were waited on hand and foot, just this side of being too much. The servers were very supportive of us and our kids. They will happily cut the pasta dishes in half for kids. Lou, our waiter, even offered up a couple of scoops of ice cream to our kids when our daughter was reacting less than favorably to finding a mushroom in her pasta (It was my fault for neglecting to ask them to leave it out when I ordered for her). Our food ranged from above average to excellent. The pasta fagioli soup, bruschetta, and tortellini paesano were all worth raving about. The chicken marsala was good, but a bit on the sweet side., and their marinara was slightly spicy. The atmosphere was nice for conversation, and rather comfortable while still very classy. We were one of three tables with kids around 6pm on a Friday. We will definitely be back - perhaps just my wife and I, or perhaps with the kids. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place.

Absolutely SUCKED!!! When the first one "burned down" they should have left it at that!!!! When it quacks like a duck, it's a duck!!!! This place is deplorable in quality and service. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT waste your time and money going there. Use your money at another restaurant for people who actually care about you. End of story.

We had a Groupon. Awesome food and awesome staff. The food was very very good. Huge portions, neither my wife or I finished our meals. Had soup too and it was very good. We will be back!

Great service, the entire staff including the management is very attentive. Food is delicious. We have tried several items and all were tasty. Wonderful, cozy, local restaurant, I would recommend it to everyone.

My friend had a Groupon worth $60 for Capri, so she made reservations and invited my boyfriend and I to accompany her and her boyfriend on a double date. Two of my co-workers have been to the restaurant and absolutely love the food. One of them, however, warned me that the service wasn't that great. As I started reading the reviews on Yelp, I started getting the feeling that we wouldn't have a good experience. We arrived ten minutes before our reservation and were seated immediately. Our waiter and busboy were extremely friendly and attentive. They were very knowledgeable of the menu and even made recommendations. I tried something new, and fell in love with the tastes and textures. I tried my boyfriend's food, and wanted to keep eating his meal. I also liked that their white wines were refreshing rather than dry and went very well with our dinner. As if the menu wasn't enough, the dining area is beautiful too, complete with candle light for a romantic feel. If at one point the service wasn't very good, they've certainly improved. For those of you who gave it a low rating, I encourage you to give them a second chance. Personally, the only thing that will keep me from dining there too often is the price, but I do believe it's worth every penny.
(5)Barbara M.
We first went to Capri because we had a Groupon. We have been going back ever since. The service is great, the atmosphere is lovely and intimate and the food is sooooo delicious! I highly recommend Capri for an authentic Italian dining experience!

We revisited this Restaurant for a friends birthday dinner. We tried making a reservation through open table, but this location does not participate. So we called in the reservation. We caught a long train, so we called to tell them we were running a few minutes late. One of my guest arrived on time, to be told that we did not have a reservation! We waited about 20 minutes. The owner apologized. He said the Bartender handles all of the phone calls, and brought us all a half glass of wine. Very nice! We got our table. Otto waited on us again! He remembered us from our last visit and yelp post. We had three Veal dishes, that were fantastic! Another guest had stuffed shells! Great as well! Otto brought out the birthday boy desert! Aside from the reservation hiccup, everyone agreed the food was great! Otto was also great! We will be revisiting soon! Only request I have, plain tomato juice for cocktails!

Capri was great! I grew up in Chicago, however living in Houston, TX now its tough to get a good Italian home cooking. We had the grilled octopus, which was outstanding and 3 of us ordered the Sunday dinner and was great. There was a slight mix-up on the 4th entree, which was probably our fault, however Joey came in and handled the situation very well and got the dish my wife wanted out right away. Really made for a great evening before a flight back to south Texas. I'll def be returning and love the owner interaction with the guests, something not enough restaurants do any more.
(5)Diane P.
Real homemade Italian cooking. Every item on the menu is delicious - a must try is the chicken vesuvio the best in town! The salads are served on cold plates the Italian dressing is perfect. Their antipasto is so good, they use the finest cuts of meat & cheese... so fresh! We love this place. Welcome back to Berwyn!
(5)Rita I.
I was expecting out of this world service and food by all of the other Yelper reviews. Our waiter was kind of cool and slow to start off, but warmed up towards the end. The food was good, but not incredibly amazing. I would definitely come back though. Very generous portions and great food for the price.
(4)Nicole P.
My family is a big fan of Capri. We've known Joey and his family since their original location. The food has always stayed consistent and is as authentic Italian food as you're gonna get outside of Italy. Their vodka sauce is AMAZING!!!!!!!! It's at the top of the game. We love the rigatoni and vodka sauce. But other mentionables are the lemon chicken, calamari, etc. the drinks are always made to perfection and yummy! Bottom line is you need to check it out! It's spectacular.
(5)Stefanie A.
Capri has some of the best, traditional, Italian I've ever had. We make the drive from downtown to go here at least twice a year. Some things I def recommend: appetizers get the grilled calamari or grilled octopus, and the mussels. For entrees, my husband and I always order the homemade rigatoni with vodka sauce and the chicken marsala. Their homemade rigatoni is phenomenal, and their Marsala sauce is so sweet- the best Marsala I've ever had! Service is always exceptional too. It's small, and intimate, and there's a small bar as well as a small outdoor area. Def recommend this place if you're in the neighborhood and are craving Italian!
(5)Elvira G.
I love this Excellent Amazing Restaurant, Food is full of flavor great menu ,great cocktails from Ozzy the Bartender, Otto is my favorite server, he knows exactly what to recommend ,very friendly Class A service!! Mr.Capri is very generous and welcoming no matter how busy he is . Make room for desert! !!! Is a must! ! You should definitely dine here, romantic night out, friendly dinner, group celebration! ! Thank you for a geat place to call home!! Worth every dollar !
(5)Esther K.
The worst Italian I've ever had, especially for the price. Firstly, the area where we were originally seated smelled like a wet mop. I can usually suck it up and sit through situational discomfort, but the smell was bad enough that we requested a table outside. Then, after we were given our bread I noticed that the napkin in the basket was completely stained- not just a little spot, but gobs of sauce all over. So. Gross. The bread itself was completely stale, no surprise there. My boyfriend loves risotto and ordered the dinner special. The flavors didn't complement each other, and the rice was sticky and clumped together- classic signs of a risotto gone bad. I tried the Fettucini Alfredo Con Gamberi Con Scallops- greasy and flavorless. We gave up after about ten minutes. The kicker is that this meal, with tax and tip, came out to just over $50. I think we could have done better at the Olive Garden.

Had dinner here tonight...I have to say this is some of the best Italian food I think I have ever had. The service was very good as well....our waiter was Otto...who gave us the best choices on the menu. We defiantly will be returning.

OMG!!! If you are within 25 miles of this wonderful little restaurant, you have to stop. I found it on Groupon and we stopped in after a concert in Oak Park tonight. Service, ambiance, the best waiter EVER and the best food. I was going to order linguine with scallops until I saw someone at the next table get the biggest dish of food I have ever seen! I asked and was told that was Momma's Sunday Dinner. It was one of the best things I have ever eaten. You get 2 pieces of cold, sweet watermelon for desert but because we were celebrating my birthday, we got a huge, overstuffed Oreo and the filling was pistachio filling. What a treat. Thank you for a great experience. We will be back.
(5)Andy H.
I love this place, and they pass all my tests that define great Italian dining. Gnocci - top notch! Try the Mayor Lovero special with a giant delectible perfect meatball, it is absolutely outstanding !!! Eggplant parm: not greasy and not drowning is sauce. Red sauce - it is nice not to have to put up with the standard ''red sauce fits all montra that some Italian joints seem to cling to, that is: same red sauce for pizza, all pastas, and everything red... this ''gravy'' is made for pasta! Vodka sauce: best you will ever have! Do not miss the stuffed eggplant appetizer. Any seafood special will be exceptional with a new sauce each time. Love it! Desserts are a little predictable, and commercial in taste and style, but at that point we are too full for dessert anyway. This is worth the trip!
(5)Michelle M.
I can not get enough of this place. Calamari Capri is to die for. My food is always delicious. Otto gives the best service. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed.
(5)Jon P.
Had take out tonight that was pretty good. Chicken with peas and potatoes ( A-) and Eggplant Parm (B+ ). I will wait to leave a full review until I eat in. Promising though!
(3)David B.
I just love having a top notch Italian restaurant within walking distance. Been there several times because of their Groupon deals and they have never disappointed me. Their Pollo Vesuvio is rustic and delicious, perfect for a cold evening. The Lasagna is pretty much perfect, the Mayor Lovero (Gnocchi & Meatball) is some of the best Gnocchi I've ever had. Lastly the Vodka sauce in their Rigatoni will make you dream about it for months. The atmosphere is great, (classic Italian bistro) and the service is on the ball. Oh, also check out the small bar off to the side, really cool and the bartender is really great. Only issues (which are small) is that it can get packed on the weekends, can get a bit loud, and a couple times our table was not available when we arrived even though we has reservations. I've never had any issues during the week btw. If you live in the near west 'burbs and are craving some good down home Italian food, be sure to check Capri out!

When making New Year's Eve plans, I immediately thought of Capri in Berwyn. It's close to home, and we've previously had a very nice experience there--good food and solid service. So when we arrived on New Year's Eve at 7:50 for our 8pm reservation, we were surprised and dismayed to learn that the tables that were seated were the 6 and 6:30 pm tables. 7pm reservations were standing room only in the bar, and 8pm reservations were cramming in wherever they could, mostly lurching around diners' tables, or hovering near the door to the bar area, hoping to catching a spot in the bar as a (very infrequent) spot opened up. I felt badly for the people dining with folks in winter hear breathing down their backs, but I felt worse for the folks (myself included) standing around with quite literally nowhere to go. The manager or owner--a small man with a big, bad attitude in a suit, was rather ungraciously pushing people around, and telling them they were in the servers' way. Now, I understand that in a restaurant or a bar, you have to keep aisles clear, both for safety and so that the servers can do their jobs. I've worked as a server, as a cocktail waitress and as a bartender, and I get it. What I don't get and won't accept was how incredibly rude he was to people who were WAITING TO PAY HIM TO EAT AT HIS RESTAURANT. That, to me, is inexcusable. Additionally, they were grossly overbooked and running almost 2 hours behind on reservations. And there was quite literally NOWHERE to go. My husband and I, being resourceful and also not fans of being treated poorly on special occasions, began searching for last minute reservations. And so that we didn't have a repeat, we actually called from the restaurant to see if their reservations were running close to schedule. They were, so we decided to leave. As we did, the manager (owner?) with the attitude came by again, rudely exclaiming that the waiting patrons were standing between the servers and the bar. I told him that instead of moving, we were leaving, because the customer service sucked that particular evening. I turned to depart, and I heard him say over my shoulder, "Yeah, lady, so do you." The manager (owner?). That's right. Rather than ask why, get a name, apologize for the inconvenience, etc, he decided to go tit-for-tat with a customer who expressed frustration and dissatisfaction at her experience, and who was leaving on account of that experience. I'm a firm believer in that things will go wrong--it doesn't matter what industry you are in. You are going to upset some customers sometimes. What matters is how you respond to the situation. In my opinion, that establishment, and that representative of that establishment made a grave error in how they treated not just me, for being frank and being vocal about my opinion, but how they were treating everyone in that restaurant, who chose that restaurant on that special night. As you can guess, my experience and my dissatisfaction escalated, rather than deescalated with his handling of the situation. That manager continued on to name-call and to "throw me out of his restaurant, " although, you will remember, I began the conversation by telling him we were upset and leaving. And based on my feelings when we left, we would never go back, and I will continue to express my complete disappointment in the customer service at Capri in Berwyn to every single person I meet. They say a great experience can get you two new customers by word of mouth, and a bad one can lose you 10. Sounds like a costly decision. There are way too many excellent restaurants in the area to waste your time or your dollars to be treated like a problem instead of a customer.
(1)Kim M.
This is your average Italian place a little above par but I would still have to say a Francesca's would be preferred in comparison. The bread was a little dry. The ambience was nice for a date and they do have a nice outdoor seating area. Overall the meal was a bit heavy and I have had better Alfredo. The vodka sauce was good. Never offered fresh parm tho! 3 stars.
(3)Diana S.
This restaurant is a small gem. I've been here many times and I've always had a great meal. Some of our favorites are the sea bass, the flat noodles and the veal francese. We usually ask for the same server, Otto. Otto is congenial, very accommodating, and attentive. The owner, Joey, always very nice and stops by to say hello and chat. He makes you feel like family. They also have valet service which is great since the restaurant is next door to Fitzgerald's and parking can be a issue. All around this place is excellent.
(5)Jane M.
I found my items drenched in way too much oil. Braised spinach had an inch of oil. Calimari also had an inch of oil that made them soggy. And way too much hot pepper flaked .. I should have sent it back since it was almost too spicey. The waiter was terrific and he brought my friend what she needed for her limited diet. Other guests entrees were so so. We want to support them since they support local theater, but I am not planning to go back since it was not very good..

Capri Ristorante in Berwyn is an awesome place to enjoy a great Italian meal with family and friends! The pasta selections are very traditional and consistent (my wife and I have dined there enough to know!) The Rigatoni Vita Mia or the Tortellini are great options, but you may need to take some home with you depending on how hungry you are. The wine and bar selections are fantastic. Otto, one of the waiters, offers great service! My wife and I chose to celebrate my law school graduation in the back dining room and the staff handled the dinner extremely well. I can't say enough good things about Capri--you just have to try it for yourself! Tell Joey that the "avvocato" sent you!
(5)Peter C.
Well went there for an early dinner and the manager asked me "what do you want" I said food? For starters was the bread was very good. Crisp out side warm inside. The side of parm/oil dip was a plus. Soup lacked taste and seasoning. I ordered the mussels with white wine, disappointing. you know when mussels have a powdery texture. They were probably frozen not fresh. Main course was veal parm not bad, breading was still had a crunch which was good. Sauce was ok, again seasoning. Would go back but they should work on those mussels!
(1)Eduardo B.
a little pricey but the food was good. loved the calamari
(3)Curt T.
The fresh pasta w/ vodka sauce is very good. Sinful even. I don't care for the vibe here though, everything feels fake and forced. We have been twice, once the food was just OK. 2nd time the food was better, but there was a disturbing wave of people parading out of the kitchen; akin to a bunch of clowns jumping out of a tiny little car. About 20 people started piling out of the kitchen all at once and making alot of noise. It was all very strange and very disruptive. We learned later that it was the wife of the owner and her entourage. I guess this is how this place is run and I was most unimpressed. We wont be back.

We've had a couple of experiences with Capri, first at their original location in Berwyn, then when they relocated to Northlake. After our experience in Northlake, I vowed never to go back. We had a 7:30 reservation, arrived on time and were asked to sit at the bar while they got a table ready. An hour later, after watching what seemed to be a long line of friends, family and wise guys come in and get seated immediately, I had enough. I told the bartender to cash us out using the gift card we'd been given, and, magically, a table opened up. Their food is excellent, but it can't cover up the bad taste left in your mouth by the way they treat customers. Life's too short tor that type of treatment, and there are too many other good Italian restaurants around to take that kind of treatment. Try LaBella in Oak Park.
(1)Karen G.
While the service was nice and the house salad was really good, my main dish was not good. I had the "Rigatoni Basilico". Some of the pasta was undercooked, the tomatos were tasteless and not very ripe, the cheee rubbery and the overall impression was bland. The server did bring me some chopped garlic fot it after I complained about the taste. I expected more from a 10 buck plate of pasta.
(2)Gaby M.
My new favorite restaurant. I was referred by a friend, and I'm glad my friends have good taste. I had the berry mojito martin. Great for appetizers and drinks. I would highly recommend the calamari alla capri. The baked clams are just as good. Fettuccini Alfredo, has an amazing sauce. You will keep going back just for the sauce. You can tell the recipes are family recipes, I've never had such great food from an Italian restaurant. Mr. Capri is always walking around very attentive. The waiters are so nice. I try to go once a week!
(5)Jessica C.
Capri is my ABSOLUTE favorite restaurant ever. Unfortunately NOT this location. Made dinner reservations for about 10 people and came in to find that they gave our table away because they were "busy"..............Excuse me? busy? what? What are reservations for??? Turned down TEN people without even apologizing. Ruined my night completely! I wont lie though, they have the best food ever. The food is amazing.
(1)Roy P.
Meh say's it. There are many other better Italian dining experiences in the area. The service was inattentive - I have never seen so much rushing around by a wait staff with so little seeming to be accomplished. (maybe they should bring in a consultant that will make them more efficient?) We were not greeted or checked up on. We had to wait more than 25 minutes to finally place our order, the special's list was just dumped on our table, and we were asked "have you had a chance to look over the menu?", when I pretty much had time to memorize it. My wife's pasta was tasty, but my salad was tiny and the shrimp and the scallops in my dish had not seen the ocean for quite a while. Not planning on a return visit, given so many other and better options.
(2)Ania B.
Wow... first time I ever order from here and it's absolutely delicious. Very authentic Italian food.
(5)A H.
My husband and I had dinner here. We had the Sausage Giambotta, lasagna and Vitello Parmigiana. Everything was delicious. The service was good as well. I would go back and I would also recommend this restaurant to a friend.

Ordered takeout from "Capri Express" to take into Fitzgerald's. Very bad decision. Was going to get the "everything basket" of fried stuff, including ( supposedly) onion rings, zucchini, mushrooms, green beans and eggplant to at least pretend to Hagen some veggies, but the guy said they only had red sauce (yuck with those things). So I changed to the calamari; menu said "fried or caprese" that said "dressed with white wine, lemon garlic and light spice." So I said that, thinking it would be sautéed in that sauce, since it said "fried OR caprese." For the date, a burger, but they only had provolone or mozzarella, not cheddar like wanted, but ok. And an order of garlic bread. 3 things. Not hard. I repeated the order clearly and the guy seemed up have it. What we got? The fried stuff, which was missing green beans and eggplant, but had a couple mozz sticks instead, which was fine but he'd managed to find the ranch dressing I'd wanted before I changed AWAY from that choice, but he didn't include the sauce one needs for mozz sticks, and anyway, I had changed that order for calamari when he said he only had red sauce. Well, but then he ALSO sent the calamari, also fried, not in a nice lemon sauce, but with that sauce on the side, to apparently dip fried calamari into oil? Yuck. And no garlic bread. So my date took back the calamari to swap for the missing bread, before I figured out the fried veggies were missing two veggies...and the onion rings were awful. Shrooms and mozz ok. Burger was dry and overlooked. Fries were cold. Garlic bread also overlooked but luckily that oily sauce was actually good (just not for FRIED calamari) and saved the dry bread . So all around...just awful. Never again, can't recommend at all. Any of it. Nope. Waste of money and a stomach ache too.

Ok I felt I had to write this for two reasons. 1) To defend all the negative reviews and 2) because this place is fabulous. We just found out about this restaurant about 2 years ago and completely fell in love. I ordered the eight finger Cavatelli, and it was by far the best I've ever had in my life. When I eat here it reminds me of my childhood when our family would visit from Italy for holidays, and all of our Sunday family dinners. Delicious home made food. Highly recommended! Not to mention the fast service is incredible, never a wait, and always friendly staff!
(5)James K.
This is another top date-night spot for us. The food and wine have been perfect every visit. We've been here over a dozen times and always enjoy the whole experience. As so many other Yelpers noted, Otto is the best. He treats us like old friends and honored guests at the same time. So attentive and he makes great recommendations including for the vegetarian in our house. I also wanted to give a shout out to one of the bartenders who -in the midst of a rush of patrons on a busy holiday weekend- was able to quickly and kindly put together a to-go order and a batch of gift cards for us. Parking is free. I think there is valet but we always just park on a side-street. Fitzgerald's next door is also a fun spot to hang out after dinner.
(5)Pat W.
Otto was our waiter and JayLo our busboy. They made the experience extra special. The musssels and veal marsala were exceptional. The smelt appetizer was enjoyable t

I have eaten at Capri in Berwyn several times now. Each time I walk in I am greeted warmly and given a seat promptly. The owner is very attentive. The service is excellent and the food is delicious. If you are in the mood for a mouth-watering Italian dinner with your family, this neighborhood place would be a very good choice.
(5)David M.
Some friends and I went out for a birthday celebration dinner at Capri. The only bad thing, and it wasn't that bad, was that the bartender, who takes their reservations, never let the floor manager know, So, when we arrived we waited 10 minutes, and the manager was very apologetic and gave us complimentary wine while we waited. After that, it was perfect. Our server, Otto, was amazing, as well as the bus staff. The food was delicious as usual, I've been there before. Our birthday friend left with a big smile on his face, so I think we did good by bringing him there. I highly recommend Capri, but make sure you get a name when making reservations! ;)
(4)Evan S.
I eat here for lunch almost weekly; typically for business meetings at is is quiet and the food is delicious. For people on their first visit, it is all about ordering the vodka sauce. You simply haven't lived until you've tried Momma Capri's vodka sauce. Once you've tried the vodka sauce, you are free to explore the menu. I highly recommend ordering from the nightly specials though, too. I typically don't like fish but, whenever I've had Capri's fish special, I've loved it.
(5)Yayasis P.
I am dating someone new and Capri is his neighborhood favorite. The atmosphere is charming and the outdoor cafe is hard to find in Berwyn. All the pastas are fantastic and the owner Joey is always there to great you at the door. Don't miss this great dining experience.
(5)Justin K.
I live right down the street and have not had some of the trouble that some people are stating. This is a classic Itallian restaurant. The wait staff will not coddle you, but they are not rude. The manager seemed to be very involved and my wife, myself, and my 2-year old had a fantastic time. This is restaurant has the best food in Berwyn. This is the best Itallian restaurant in the area, including the several we have been to in Oak Park. No contest. The pros: If this is not a from scratch kitchen, it is about as close as you can get to one. Food arrives fast and hot. Food is well flavored. Decor is outstanding. Pricing is good. Portions are good-sized. You can get side orders of pasta for the kids at an excellent price. Decor and ambience are great. Fantastic lasagna Warm, fresh bread served with meal The cons: Parking is limited. Place fills up very fast in the evening so wait times can be unpredicatble. Staff are not top notch. They could stand to be more knowledgeable. Configuration of tables is tight. No dedicated kids menu (some might see this as a pro) Entrance is small/entire dining area is small $5 Valet Summary: While this is far from a 5 star restaurant, expect an excellent meal at a decent price. Look for off-street parking and expect limited close parking. Expect to wait, possibly outside, once restaurant is filled. We will be back.

Simply stated: I eat out 5 days a week, and i eat Italian, and have not had a better Italian meal anywhere in Chicago than this small out of the way place. Kind of a longer wait and the maitre d brought out some out of sight brushetta. I had the housemade large noodles with braised lamb shank with goat cheese, and I have not stopped thinking about it since. Check. This. Place. Out!

Capri Ristorante should be CRAPPY RESTAURANT! So were next door enjoying a evening at Fitzgerald's and we decide to get something to eat. Well after reading the yelps on this place and looking like a very nice place to check out we decided to get a order of Fried Calamari as well as a order of Fried GNOCCHI. The Calamari was horrible can you say extra chewy rubber bands and a lot of it was just the breading w/o the Calamari. The GNOCCHI was also horrible as well as the dipping sauce...... Will not be coming back to this place......................

I stopped into Capri one night to get out of the rain and have a glass of wine in their little lounge/bar area. It was really nice and the woman behind the counter was very friendly. She convinced me to come back and try the restaurant. We took our Italian-loving in-laws here last week and we all had a great time. They are very picky about food, wine, service - etc and they loved it! Score. Also, everything is made to order so you can make small changes when ordering which is always nice. My husband and I are vegan and we were able to order things without cheese and meat very easily. The atmosphere is very old school awesome and I just loved it. The waitstaff was also kind of old school and the service was phenomenal. I would definitely recommend and I will definitely be back!

Apparently, it's hard to get a table here if you don't know someone. After being promised a 15 minute wait, we left after 45 minutes when FOUR different parties (who all came well after us) were seated. Even better? Thanks to the loudmouth old-school cronie hanging out at the bar, we know all of those 4 parties knew someone there at the restaurant. In fact, Mouthy was instrumental in getting one couple seated, personally (Oh, "Jimmy" at the front is my cousin, let me go talk to him. You shouldn't have to wait"). A real shame, because this place is right down the street from our house and we are always looking for good Italian. We could have been regulars, too, if given the chance! Oh well...

We were at Fiztgerald's for music so we ordered take-out to eat in Fitzgeralds. I was dissapointed. I got the food as soon as it came out of the kitchen and yet the fries were cool and soggy. The meatball had no sauce. The italian beef tasted like it came from Cisco or GFS and the italian sausage was nearly burnt. In all, it was not very good at all.

this place is phenomenal. i totally loved the food. many people have told me about this being their favorite italian place. now i see why. this is also a great family destination. make sure you have reservations though. we ordered the Seafood risotto, the Orange roughy, Linguine and mussels and of course, Fettucini alfredo. not a single disappointment. the service is friendly and fast. this is a must visit if you enjoy authentic italian food.

My girlfriend had a Groupon to Capri In Berwyn. Groupons work as I normally go to Al's in Cicero for Italian so it got me to change from my usual. I had the Mayor Lovero, but had Vodka sauce substituted. My girlfriend had the Chicken Marsala with pasta and with a red sauce. She got the soup with her meal and I got the salad with house dressing. My girlfriend had water and I wanted a Mountain Dew, but alas I had to settle for a Pepsi. Ozzie was our waiter and was was awesome. The second my salad hit the table another server was at the table offering fresh ground pepper. The food was all fresh and excellent. No complaints. Now mind you I liked it all but to things to pick at: I wish they put more salad on the salad plate and I wish they had Mountain Dew. Minor nitpicking as it was all excellent!!!!!

Two words. Vodka sauce. Get it and put it on everything! They are so accomodating there as well. I wanted scallops, a certain type of noodle and of course, vodka sauce and they made it happen. AMAZING!

We had an early Sunday dinner. Place was empty, we were promptly greated and seated. Wait staff was friendly and fast to refill bread basket and water glasses. Soup, salad and entrees were wonderful! I don't like the parking and the tightness of Roosevelt rd but would make the trip back to Berywn for the food.

Just had a wonderful birthday dinner here with my husband. The rigatoni vita Mia was excellent and the squid ink pasta special was very good. Service was great, attentive but not too much. Will definitely come back again soon. There are plenty of items on the menu that look great!

This place was horrible. The first time we went when it opened in April and the experience was decent. Pretty standard food for an Italian restaurant, nothing special. The second time we went was a Friday night and the service was the absolute worst. We were told it would be a 15 minute wait which quickly tinted into 45 minutes at the bar. When we were finally seated, it was in the back addition a few inches from the door so we had a nice draft as people went in and out constantly. Our waiter was completely inept. He took forever to greet us or take our order and completely forgot to bring any bread, even after we asked him to. I had asked his opinion on which of two dishes he would suggest I get, and his response was that there was no way to say as both were so different. Absolutely no help in offering advice or descriptions. I ended up ordering the filet special, and when it arrived was nothing like the description he had given us. And I had asked him to describe it at two different times. The food was decent, wine selection ok but I just couldn't get past the horrendous service. Just like any other Italian restaurant, go somewhere else!

The food was great! I had the calamari for an appetizer. Fried nice with a spicy garlic sauce. for my entree, I had the rigatoni with tomato-basil sauce and ground sausage. These were the largest noodles that Ive ever seen. I just wished they had been cooked a little longer but it still was good. I tried my mom's veal cutlets. Tender, well seasoned and crisp. our waiter Otto was very attentive and helpful. the only negative part of my trip here was discoverin that their rest rooms are single occupancy. i cant figure out for the life of me why restaurants do that.... Im definitely coming back!!!

I don't know why so many high ratings. I guess because it's Berwyn and there aren't many choices because this place was not good for many reasons. The Bad: The food was bland and was on the high side for what you get. Stale bread. Weak salads. They don't have fresh brew ice-t. What real Italian joint doesn't have real ice-t? Not kid friendly (no kids meals or menu). Little to no parking. Service was slow and not very caring and if I remember right, refills are not free! The atmosphere was lame. The Frank Sinatra/Brat Pack theme. Nothing original here. This made it seem tacky and not real Italian. There are much better places for Italian food near by. I would recommend passing on this one.

We catered Capri in next door when we had my husband's 50th at Fitzgeralds. It was fantastic. Calamari, antipasti, tomato/mozz salad then homemade rigatoni with vodka sauce with sausage and peppers! Everyone raved about the food. Joey helped me with the menu and made sure we had enough. He made a great cake reco(turano). Highly recommend!

Lovely spot for a fancy luncheon or nice dinner. I had the Lemon Chicken which was pretty much perfect, served with pasta. Companion had the pasta in vodka sauce and she almost licked her plate. Excellent service.

Reconsider using Capri Ristorante for catering if you have an event at Fitzgerald's. We went over the details a couple weeks before our event with Joey (front man) while sitting at his bar for a tasting among his Soprano-esque cronies. Joey spelled "cannoly" wrong on the contract, which was cute for the two seconds it takes to remember there is no 'y' in the Italian language. OK, who cares about Joey's Goodfellas-wanna-be thing as long as the food is good. And, it is. Well, it seems Joey also practices a new form of math. He asked for our food budget and we said "$3,000." He said "OK." Then the day of the event he explained to us that when he says $3,000, he really means $4,500. He issued a bunch of well-practiced, phony misunderstandings to jack up the price. He also never came through on some promises (e.g., tray of tiny "cannolys", Capri gift certificate as auction prize, sausage/cheese sandwiches.) Mind you, this is a charity event. We raise money to benefit children. Joey didn't give a *forget* about that. So, we either switch caterers next year ... Or, we change our charitable mission to helping Italian restauranteurs that can't spell, can't count, and have a tiny "cannoly" (iffa-you-know watta-I-mean).

First time dining at Capri on Roosevelt. We enjoyed our dinner,. Otto the waiter recommended a veal dinner which I enjoyed. The service was very good, right on top of things, and not ovearbearing constantly asking if we were ok. . Some places go over the top with that. I would go again. Sociable staff with Good humor.

Even though I'm a low-carb diet person, I chose Capri as the place to bring my family to celebrate my birthday and would not change a thing. The service was amazing! Waitstaff was extremely attentive and professional while not being annoying. My son dropped his butter knife and another one appeared within 2.5 seconds flat, as if they could tell by the -clang- which utensil he dropped. Food was incredible. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and would eat it every day. My mother ordered gluten-free pasta and we couldn't tell a difference from semolina as far as taste goes. My son is a picky eater but chowed down on chicken parm (requested a 1/2 order for the small fry) and a large meatball. We also ordered the tilapia which was equally as good. I'm already looking forward to going back. And, if there's a Groupon offer and you're thinking hard about buying one? Do it!!

A small, intimate setting with friendly service. We were nearly instantly welcomed with ice water, lovely bread, fire-roasted peppers, and a lovely dipping sauce. We indulged a beautiful bottle of Chianti which complimented our meal from start to finish. We began our mean with Insilata di Broccolo. He had the Pollo Marsala Dolce (which I couldn't help but try a bite of). And I had Rigatoni Vita Mia, which was divine. We shared the gorgeous Tiriamisu to end our meal, and you can easily split that. It was more than enough for two people to share. Very light, luscious, and a beautiful end to a great meal. I would happily go back.

We love Capri in Berwyn! Had heard much good about it since they opened at this location in April 2012 (and the legend of the former, original Berwyn Capri) and have been very impressed the two times we've been there. Pasta dishes are outstanding. I had Rigatoni Arrabiata (quite spicy but well worth the 'sting'!), and my husband had Linguine with Scallops yesterday. Delizioso! Pistachio gelato for dessert was incomparably good. To balance the superb taste and experience and picturesque presentation, the service is attentive and gracious -- equal to or exceeding that of the finest restaurants we've visited. A special treat (though we haven't partaken, only observed) is the table-side preparation of Bananas Foster, complete with flaming. I highly recommend Capri in Berwyn and look forward to returning!

We celebrated my husband's birthday at Capri a couple of weeks ago. We had a very enjoyable and delicious dinner. He ordered the veal marsala and I had the homemade rigatoni with vodka sauce. Both meals very fantastic. I've had vodka sauce at other restaurants, but this by far is the best. The service was excellent. A truly enjoyable evening. We will be back!

Food was delish came here for a birthday party. The Busser Emilio is a doll but our waiter was a jerk. He made it seem like we were interuppting him leaving early its Friday night dinner, get over it.

They have quirky space - three separate areas - and seem to be doing what they can with it. My rigatoni with Italian sausage was really excellent, and everyone else at my table loved their entrees. Our bread was good and came with a spicy dipping sauce we all liked. The salad, as others have noted, is terrible: small, oily and bland. Staff is nothing special - owner (or GM?) was brusque when he seated us and smug the rest of the night. The entrees were good enough for a return trip, the salad and people weren't.

This is exactly the Chicago type of place (even though it's in Berwyn) where you would find Tony "Teflon" or Frankie "Da Fish" discussing their dealings... Seriously, it's a great place to have a business lunch or dinner. Very intimate, AUTHENTIC Italian food (oooooooooh soooooooo gooooood), great decor, fantastic service, and just one of these places that will make you what you want even though it's not on the menu. I love that! For dinner I had lentil soup (good+) grilled octupus with greens (super+++) and for dessert home made tiramisu (super+++). Definitely coming back there.

Love this place! I have gone several times with a groupon and every time the food and service has been excellent. Authentic Italian food - the best in the area. Will continue to go!

Soooo HAPPY to have Capri back in Berwyn (it's original home). We used to go to the one on Oak Park Av in the Depot District (20 years ago), and we're so happy to see it back (altho on Roosevelt now) . Went with my mom and dad, and wanted to have our old favorites from the past... They were all there on the menu YEAY!! When we sat done we were greeted with bread and a small dish of olives and peppers just enuf to rev your appetite. We started with a dozen baked clams, yum yum, I only wish they would use a bigger clam, they use the small manilla clams, maybe a little neck would be better, but the stuffing is delicious you finish it with a spoon, not to miss a drop. Dinner comes with choice of soup or salad which I love that it is included. We had the salad, small plate of mixed greens perfectly dressed with their house dressing, not swimming in it. Dad had Veal Limone, just as he remembered plentiful portion, very tender pounded thin comes with a side of pasta. Mom had her fav Pasta Puttanesca excellent full of flavor and plentiful for leftovers. I had my favorite, Linguine with White Clam Sauce, not a creamy sauce (I don't like the creamy alfredo-like sauce) but the wonderful broth sauce perfectly flavored with garlic and parsley and plenty of clams. We wanted alittle something sweet after dinner, Fernando our server brought over the dessert tray with a selection of very nice sweets we opted for the turtle cheesecake, very nice but alittle dry, not the best I've had, but satisfied our after dinner sweet tooth. Coffee was good and hot too:) They have a nice wine list too. Our server Fernando was great, answered our questions, and was attentive but not over bearing - a wonderful dining experience. The only "bad" thing was that we were sat at a four top table just inside to the right of the host desk, so every time the door opened we got hit with the cold breeze (about 30* last night). But they have a double vestibule, and the valet did his best at keeping both doors closed. In this colder weather try to not get that four top table just to the right or left of the host desk. I called at 530 to make a 630 reservation, not a problem, but by the time we left around 8pm, they were on a small wait, and those people were directed to a small waiting bar towards the back and behind a wall. I didn't see the bar/waiting area, but I did some people just go directly back there so I'm sure it is comfy while you wait. Prices are very very reasonable, for the three of us it was $97 (not including tip), not bad at all. Thank you Capri for coming back to Berwyn, I know you have your other locations, but we are soooo happy you're back. I can't wait for my next visit !!

We were there tonight...party of 12! Specials, food, wine list, atmosphere, service was outstanding.....even the valet! My carbonara was so good the whole table had a taste. Thank you for making my Father's 66th Birthday amazing!

Update. Since our last review we have returned several times and the service is much better! They have also opened a second dining room which makes things a lot better. Next to our favorite place on Taylor street downtown, this is some of the best Italian in the city!!!!!!

I brought my father and mother in law here for a great lunch! They both loved the lasagna (huge portion), and I really liked the panini I ordered. The included ministrone soup and bread were fabulous. This is a hidden gem right next to Fitzgeralds. Affordable prices for large portions of great food.

Capri is a welcoming spot for affordable Italian favorites. The décor is homey, the room cozy, and the staff cordial and genuinely attentive (if not polished). We started with grilled calamari on greens -- it was tender & delicious (save for one "off" piece that my companion drew). I had the "square noodle bosciola" -- tasty comfort food, indeed. My companion's chicken vesuvio was yummy (though she noted the substitution of peas for green beans was unexpected for a vesuvio preparation), but the roasted potatoes were boring. Entrées (which are substantial) are served with small side salads, which were fresh, simple & satisfying. There is a selection of decadent items on the dessert tray, but we opted for pistachio ice cream, which was fine. I liked the cappuccino; it had good robust flavor. As with many small, tin-ceiling rooms, Capri is NOISY -- conversation is possible, but not pleasant. (There is outdoor seating, but it is on the west side of the building, so gets lots of sun -- and commands an Elysian view of Roosevelt Road.) We were there in the early evening, so it was still light outside; my sense is that the room might be too dark for my tastes later in the evening. The food was enjoyable, and I would go back if I were in the neighborhood on a weekday, when it might not be so noisy.

When I was a kid my uncle Sperino had a restaurant that set the bar very high for me forever for southern Italian cuisine and hospitality. Everything tasted like it came out of my grandmas kitchen and people came as much to see my darling uncle as for the wonderful food he served. This is Capri. Everything is delicious. The Calamari Capri is the best I've ever tasted and I've tasted a lot. From pasta to seafood to wine, I've never had anything that isn't fresh and authentic (and a good value). Then there's the ambience...the decor is contemporary yet really warm and cozy and Joey's such charming host - funny and welcoming (this goes for his very attentive staff as well). Everyone I bring along falls hard. If you can, get a table in the back room near the fireplace and tour the kitchen on the way. Oh, and yes - get that reservation ahead!
(5)Clemente G.
The only reason this restaurant gets one star is because the food is actually very good. I'm yelping from my seat as the waiter has had to come back multiple times to confirm my order?? I ordered a salad before my meal and it's taken the waiter entirely too long to bring ANYTHING out... He even forgot I had ordered a salad?!? I'm still waiting for my food and I can't wait to see what that looks like i'm sure it won't be right! This has been the worst service I've EVER recieved ANYWHERE!

We ate outside on a clean table. We had appetizers before seeing a band at Fitzgeralds next door. Rapini, meatballs, and grilled calamari were all good. The grilled calamari was perfect! Well staffed.

Nice atmosphere. Food quality good. Usual Italian entrees. Service poor. Supposed to wait 10 min for a table and it became almost 60. Manager aware of situation should have offered a comp drink or dessert.... Something. Waitress asked us twice for drink order and twice we had to ask for wine menu. We prompted her for specials. She brought one wrong App. But we caught it and she fixed it. There are a lot of Italian choices in the area . Can't say I would hurry back.

I used to LOVE Capri. Several times in the past my co-workers and I have purchased a specific Groupon which states $30 for $60 worth of food . We've used that particular type of Groupon on several occasions when there were only (2) of us, we've used that particular type of Groupon a couple of times when there were (3) of us. Well let's fast forward to yesterday, I wanted to take my mother out for a great Italian dinner at Capri. We were seated and I immediately told the waiter that we were using a Groupon, he asked to look at the Groupon & he immediately said we weren't allowed to use because there were only two of us & the Groupon deal states for four or more patrons. I explained to him that I've used that type of Groupon there before on several occasions and never had a problem, I then asked to speak to the manager. The manager appeared and made up some some lame excuse that the scan code would not scan the Groupon unless there were four or more guests.I then asked how does the scanner how many guests are eating? I informed him that we would be spending well over the $60 stated on the Groupon and that he would still make a profit. He still refused our Groupon. Of course my mother & I left the restaurant & took our business & hard earned money to another restaurant. I've been a loyal customer of Capri since they opened, telling everyone I come in contact with about their wonderful food & excellent customer service. I work for a very large company down the street from Capri and my co-workers & I give them the bulk of their business. We dine there for lunch & dinner - we take clients there for business meals. We also use their catering services quit often. I can't wait to go back to work to let all my co-workers know that Capri is no longer worthy of our business

Love this resaurant. Everything I have tried here is delicious. Tastes just like Nani's homemade Italian dinners. I've brought many friends, and the whole family, and everyone loves it. Even my father in law-who hates spending money going out to eat cause he is a phenomenal cook- liked everything he tried w/o any complaints. The house salad is one of my favs. Simple yet very tasty. Their tortellini spinach soup is also very good. My daughter loves it. I like the "forget about it" chicken dish...very tender juicy chicken...never over done. And the Arabiatta and Vodka sauces are also very authentic. My mouth is watering just writing this. And they even have groupons sometimes. So even more reason to give it a try. Easily one of my favs.
