I love the fact that the girl on Los Comales is like the Mexican Wendy with pigtails and all. My wife always makes fun of me when I go there when I need to fulfill a meat addiction. I usually order the football sized steak burrito and an horchata. It ends up being a little bit more pricey than other Mexican joints, but it isn't a standard "hole in the wall" either. And anyone that knows good Mexican food knows that the best food comes from holes in the wall so I have to give it a solid "B". Hey that's a better grade than I used to get in college particularly in Spanish class.

Pretty good for late night food. I do love their quesadillas and tacos. They are a little pricey though. Their chorizo and al pastor are really good!

Tasty food here. Tripe, tongue, chorizo, these are my options for tacos. They are small but quite filling. The tripe here is my favorite followed by the chorizo. I wish they had chicharon and cabezas, maybe they do and I didn't ask. I did not see it on the menu though.

I gave this place 4 stars because it is great for what it is. A no-nonsense taqueria that gives you exactly what your looking for. Good flavor, cheap and filling. We stumbled upon this place on accident, but I will definitely go back.

While cruising around Aurora on a (very slow) joy ride, I started to hear my stomach grumble so my buddy and I saw this spot and decided to give it a whirl. First thing I noticed about the place when I stepped in was how clean and spacious it is. Second thing I noticed was that my buddy and I are the only ones there who are speaking English. Fortunately, the waitress also speaks, so we are off to a good start. I ordered 3 tacos and a ceviche tostada. The tostada definitely hit the spot. It was light, flavorful and ideal to eat on hot days. The tacos were loaded with fresh and tasty ingredients, and definitely hit the spot. The service is great, and they bring you sliced carrots and cauliflower, chips and salsa for munching shortly after seating you. Definitely chomp on the chips and salsa, which is hot and has a nice kick to it. Next time I come here, I think I will try one of their soups. Great flavor/food, great prices and filling. You will probably spend around $10 if you have an above average size appetite. They also open late, late night grub!!

So it's Saturday night and my husband gets home from work. I was out most of the day and didn't feel ike cooking when I got back. We think for a moment and then we agree. Mexican food. He heads over to this Los Comales and brings me an egg and bean torta with avocado, lettuce, sour cream and tomatoes. Bliss. The bread was nice and toasted and tasted fresh. Mission accomplished. Worth checking out for a late-night meal.

Overall the building is beautiful and always clean to dine in. Food wise ordering food is quick, and gets to the table in good time even when busy. The food is good but not amazing. Tacos need to be better especially at those prices. Weekend nights are busy and full of hungry drunks including myself. Security is always present so that's good.

Delicious. We asked the parents of our Hispanic neighbor, where they go for great mexican food. Without hesitation they said Los Camales. They were right. There are some great Mexican restaurants in the area and this is one of them. The food is so fresh and flavorful, it is worth the trip. The refried beans are to die for. Made perfectly. Even one of the people dining with us who is not a big Mexican food fan loved them. The only complaint I have (and worth that extra 5th star) is that ambiance is lacking and it does blow cold air everywhere you sit. It feels like a fast food restaurant which doesn't reflect the quality of the food and drinks. And it does get very loud at times. I've tried a few steak dishes the last one being bistek ala mexicana and it was perfect! I am going for the shrimp dishes next time. If you are a fan of spicy, this place will satisfy your craving. They serve a couple hot sauces with your meal and one has a nice spice level. They also give you a bowl of pickled carrots and cauliflowers which I love. Great to snack on before your food arrives and the have a bit of a kick. The servers are always friendly and helpful in getting you through the rather large menu. Both my wife and I have not had a complaint yet about the food. It is a bit more pricey than other Mexican restaurants but you do get a lot of food and the quality makes up for it. Worth the trip. Worth the money.

Steak tacos are delicious! Love their green salsa and vegetables in vinegar. Horchata is awesome. They also have agua de jamaica which is rare around here will have to try that one next time. They open late. 24 hours in the weekend.

Let me just cross another Comales off my checklist. This was a very nice, large location. They offer chips and salsa, which many don't, and the service was speedy. I got the usual, tacos de cecina, horchata, chiles toreados, and cebollitas. Topped with their bomb ass salsa! Love it!!

No liquor in the system just another late night, myself and two of my best boys, let's start off with what it's people start off when you get there, the complementary chips and salsa your given as soon as your seated, sadly i must say the chips weren't really good at all , they need to do A better job on them , tasted too stale and if anything over cooked , not really a good combination, either way I didn't go there for chips and salsa I went there for some tacos, I had 2 tacos de lengua "that's tongue" for my non Spanish speaking folks, with cheese , lengua and just cheese, if your the type that thinks lengua should be only eaten on Zimmermans bizzare foods, I encourage you to try them atleast once, probably one of the most tender, and juicy meats you could try, not all places do them good but comales does them very good , also I had a horchata grande "large white rice water" again for my non Spanish people , overall Service was ok tacos were good, horchata was on point it's just those damn chips they need to work on , when you can stop by atleast once

I really like this place for fast, casual Mexican. They have the real deal tacos - small soft corn tortillas with a choice of tripe, tongue, marinated beef, flank steak, chicken, al pastor (marinated pork). You can order with cilantro and onion or go gringo and get lettuce & tomato. They also have plate meals with combinations, tortas, etc. but I haven't gotten past the pastor and cesina tacos yet. Suadero (beef) tacos are bland; I'd avoid those. They have drive-thru 24 hours a day! Very nice when you must have an al pastor taco at 2 a.m.

There is nothing better than tacos when coming home from the city after partying all night! Thank you Los Comales for being open 24/7 on the weekend because we needed you at 430am when we got back to aurora. The food was good, the staff super nice, and everything came out quick and hot. Couldn't ask for more, especially in the middle of the night on a Saturday!

My go to joint for quick tacos. I don't think this is going to blow you away, but if you need a taco that's a serious cut above your standard Taco Bell taco, this is your place. They have the stuff I like, such as excellent chorizo, and pretty tasty al pastor, but also the traditional stuff like menudo and lengua. Something for everyone. I don't both with the burritos or the dinner platters - always two al pastor and one chorizo. Plus, I can't get away without mentioning that they have a really good roasted salsa, which always comes to the table warm. Nice touch. The service is friendly, and prices are downright cheap for what you get. Definitely a great option.

Kick butt authentic Mexican food. I love the pork tacos (they are small, but the very best flavor). Order 3 or 4 if you are pretty hungry. If you are looking for a fancy place, this isn't it. If you want good authentic Mexican food... go here!

  • Carmen N.

When I want some good Mexican food for lunch, I'd choose here before the Taco Bell across the street. I've dined in as well as ordered takeout. The takeout process is rather long when you have 15 other coworkers who want to order as well when they overhear that you're coming here. Bleh. WHY DON'T YOU DELIVER?!?! It's bad when you never know what's going on with group orders but that's ok because the food is worth it. I always get chicken tacos or burritos. They have come up on their lunch prices but hey, if I want to spend money, why not spend it on something I like. :) Cons: makes me sleepy while at work. Makes it hard to concentrate because I'm so full.

I stopped here to pick up some dinner on our way back home from Aurora. There are a couple of places next to each other and I was like what the hell I think they make their own tortillas. That unfortunately was the best part of the meal. I got the 3 taco meal and my gf got the burrito. I had the al pastor, chorizo, and the bistek. The major issue I had with all of them was the lack of seasoning except for the al pastor which seemed to have been marinated or has a sauce on it. The steak burrito seemed to have the same problem. The red and green salsas were good but not great. The beans were a little stiff but the rice had a nice mix of veggies in it that gave it a good twist. Overall it was decent Mexican food but I have had better and definitely cheaper. It was a little on the pricey side for your basic taco shop. The tortillas were nice and fresh but the meat lacked some seasoning. I would suggest the al pastor tacos.

It's 4am & you're in Aurora after a night of partying. What do you do? Eat fast casual Mexican food at Los Comales, that's what you do!!! It's a plain & simple Mexican food joint that offers perfect post-party food to soak up all the liquor ingested in the hours prior to visiting Los Comales. I'm talking about tortas, tacos, burritos, sopes, tostadas, etc. I highly recommend their tortas de asada, tacos de lengua, and burritos de pollo--YUMMY!!! The food here is good and the service is fast. We strolled... I mean, stumbled in here, and it was kind of busy, but we were seated quickly, chips & salsa were brought to our table, and we didn't have to wait very long for our food to come out after placing our orders. All in all, I'm A-OK with Los Comales. There's nothing special or fancy about this place but they have something good going for them: they're open super late, the food comes out fast, and it tastes pretty damn good. Los Comales gets the official Mr Beautiful drunken stamp of approval. Holla!!!â„¢

This place really packs them in every time we drive past. Finally gave them a try and must say this is NOT the place to come for good tacos. Obviously their success is in quantity and not quality offerings. This became apparent in the salsas and chips you are served upon seating. Not the best tasting salsas. Usually any good salsa will do but these miss the mark. We tried 2 tacos the steak and barbacoa. Both were very chewy - like gum chewy and were not consistent in texture or flavor from bite to bite. Rice and beans are your standard quality that you expect (not far from the canned versions). Overall a very poor plate of tacos from the tortilla to the toppings. Must say the services was great. All smiles and very quick. The interior is spacious and typical fast mexican food layout and overall clean looking. Parking lot can get full. It's a mystery how people choose to return here as there must be better in Aurora. No doubt this is a think twice before you come here. Trust me on this :(.

  • Manny S.

I love the Comales, but this particular location is not one of my favorites. The reason is because the food is a little more bland and the pricing is almost twice the price for certain items, for example the breakfast special , it contains eggs rice beans salad and a couple pieces flank steak. They charge almost 12 dollars for breakfast. In their 26 st location in Chicago the same breakfast is 9.99, and its bursting in flavor compared to the Aurora location. Their Burritos "where's the Meat" more lettuce and sour cream than anything else, and their steak is salty.;(

I like this place, I will come here once every so often to enjoy a taco or burrito. Service is very attentive and pleasant, place is clean and prices are acceptable. Food for the most part is of a consistent quality, not bad at all.

This place was overall good. The inside is cold and the vents just blow air onto every table. The food is pretty good. The al pastor tacos are good. One of them had a piece of bone in them but besides for that they were good. The salsa on the table is good every time. Not too spicy. The nachos are delicious and they definitely pile on the toppings. The service was good. They brought the food out fast. They brought us a steak taco instead of the steak torta that we ordered and the brought it out pretty fast. Will keep going back.

REALLY REALLY REALLY, Great place to eat. The best Los Comales location that I have ever been to yet. Upscale compared to the others as in this one you're greeted at the door by a host to sit you down and accommodates to your needs or request. In my case it was to know if it would take long to make my order since I only had 30 min lunch. I was pleasantly surprised that he asked immediately if I already knew what I was ordering, which of course I knew, since I'm already familiar with their menu due to going to other locations. After I told him, he immediately put my order in just as he was seating me. 4 mins later, I was served my food which left me plenty of time to take my time to enjoy eating my lunch. Extremely happy with my experience and would love to go back anytime as often as possible. Very clean and the big mounted flat screen Tv are a nice touch too.

Los comales is mediocre. There food is nothing to get excited about. The only thing that sets Los comales aside from the other Mexican restaurants that are within walking distance is the fact that Los comales is open 24 hours Friday and Saturday nights. And are open until like 1 I believe the rest of the week. Definitely a go to place after a fun night in Naperville or Chicago on the way home close to the i88 Farnsworth south exit.

By far the best taco place around. This isn't the type of restaurant I recommend to eat inside, I recommend it to go. I love the fact that they have a drive thru. When I want fast food and dont want a burger, Los Comales it is. My favorite thing to order are the al pastor tacos. They are delicious!! I also love the steak tacos. They put onions and cilantro and you get the limes and the pickled veggies to go with your tacos. The rice and beans are nothing to brag about but the tacos are fantastic. I always get the horchata, which is one of the best I've had, and I order the large without the ice. Yum! I've dined in there too and its not bad. Nothing fancy, the servers are friendly and its a clean place. I just would rather get my tacos to go. Definitely worth trying out. You won't be disappointed.

Cute lil gay server in pink shirt was very outgoing and pleasant. Chorizo tacos were to spicy. Al pastor tacos were not up to Comales standard. Bathrooms were relatively clean. They do not serve jaritos, but do serve micheladas. It gets loud. If I ever go back Will only be because the cute gay server.

If you want real authentic Mexican, come here!! There is 24 hour drive through on weekends and service is fast. Food is delicious. I got the egg and ham while my bro got the chicken burrito. It was simply bliss. I recommend giving this place a try!

This is honestly the first time that I can remember where I went to a restaurant specifically BECAUSE of a negative review. Julio R's review on 9/13/14 mentions, and I quote, "I think they even use the City of Aurora recycled water to make those drinks." made me laugh harder than anything I've ever read on Yelp. In fact, when we went, we specifically made sure to order water to drink to get a taste of that crisp refreshing recycled Aurora water... ...Except, wait, isn't ~all~ water recycled? Isn't that the entire basis of the basic scientific principle of the water system and the whole point of municipal water treatment centers? What restaurant on Earth serves water freshly combined from hydrogen and oxygen? I guess I've been ordering water wrong all this time. Anyway, Los Comales is the third Mexican restaurant in the same shopping center down Farnsworth. In order of best to worst, I'd say they're Taqueria El Brasero, El Burrito Loco, and Los Comales. Conveniently, that's also the order they're in north to south. That's not to say Los Comales is bad, all three restaurants are pretty good, but when you're sharing a parking lot it seems fair to compare them all. I got a burrito dinner when I went there, and while the flavor profile of the burrito was pretty decent, it was surprisingly flat. When I order a burrito that has lettuce in it, I expect just a sprinkling of lettuce, not to eat a burrito that's primarily lettuce, like some kind of Subway sandwich. Compared to El Burrito and El Brasero, the burrito was very light on the fillings. Usually a burrito tortilla should barely be able to contain its contents, not verging on wrapping around twice. Additionally, the salsa here, while tasty, is very much on the watery side. (Maybe they're using that recycled water again?) The guacamole was great, but they were a little stingy with the chips. Overall, a good Mexican place that shares its parking lot with great Mexican places.

I used to really like this spot but lately it's been garbage. Today (February 21) I Went through the drive thru around 6pm and ordered 3 steak tacos. I finally got my food 15 minutes later and drove home. I arrived home to find 2 cecina tacos and one greassssy quesadilla. This is the first time they messed up my order but not the first time I had to wait 15+ minutes for a few tacos. Get it together, you are in Aurora and surrounded by Mexican spots. Adios.

  • Ann Marie T.

Unfortunately, this was about the worst burrito I have ever had. I ordered the barbacoa burrito exactly as the menu depicted. The meat was mostly mushy fat, and it had no flavor. Very bland and over-cooked. There were very few vegetables. The white goo that was in it tasted nothing like sour cream or cheese, just flavorless goo. I threw most of it away. The one star I did give is for the kind and speedy service and the pickled cauliflower and carrots they serve on the side. Those are tasty.

Los Comales is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants because it is the real deal. Most of the people that work there (and eat there) don't even speak English. That's how you know it's authentic! The best thing about this place is that they are open 24/7! It's like a Mexican Denny's! I'm all about this place on the weekends. The food is always excellent and it is extremely cheap. I usually get the barbacoa burrito. It's gigantic and has everything you could possibly want in a burrito...rice, tomato, onion, lettuce, beans, meat, cheese, and avocado. You can get it as a combo with rice and beans and they are delightful. Recently, I've switched to the tacos. They make great chorizo tacos with onion and cilantro. Again, really cheap! For four people, we usually spend about $25.00. Get the horchata to drink. It's delicious. The interior is not much to look at. It looks a lot like a school cafeteria actually, but that doesn't matter to me. The food is great and the service is always wonderful. They are quick to seat you, quick to get your drinks and order, and quick to bring out your food. They make really good sangria and the best flan I've ever tasted, but they refuse to tell me their secret. The only reason I did not give this place five stars is because the restaurant itself is not visually appealing and the last time I went there, I had a little piece of cow tongue in my barbacoa burrito...it must have fallen in there by accident. It's OK though, I forgive you. Hopefully that doesn't deter any of you from going!

I've tried Los Comales three times thus far and have gotten the bistec tacos and steak mexicana. The spices in the food are definitely decent; however I just think the food is under seasoned. It's just missing that oomph, that pop of flavor, that I'm looking for. Some salt could have remedied that situation. Also the last time I got the steak mexicana it was really greasy and had a vat of oil underneath it. The guacomole has enough acidity from the lime but again it's missing the salt and a bit of pepper. The best thing I've eaten here I have to say is the fish ceviche. It's cold, light, and refreshing, with just the right amount of acidity. Plus the price for it was fairly cheap -- at $3 or $4. I would go back for the fish ceviche and maybe the bistec tacos, if it was more seasoned.

This used to be my favorite place to go, but every time I go it seems to get more expensive. Food is good but somewhat over priced in my opinion

Waaaaaay overpriced!!!!! An Enchilada dinner cost almost $12! and it is no where as good as Cazadores where i can get the same amount of food for about $7. Menu is too limited and prices are not listed for some of the menu items.

  • Scott A.

Not a very good reproduction of the ones closer to the city. It's more expensive for one, and doesn't taste anywhere near as good. I always get the Tacos Al Pastor the ones I got here were dry and bland. Not recommended at all.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
