The food is homey and tasty. We had ham dinners that was some of the best ham. My daughter had the baked fish that she enjoyed. The desserts were divine. The fresh baked bread and apple butter was great. We really enjoyed our meals!

I hadn't been here in years and had to make a trip to Arcola. I couldn't resist a visit for lunch. My old favorite has always been the baked steak but I went with the baked turkey special, what with Thanksgiving coming up. Good as always! Dutch Apple pie is also a must here. It's great to see a place like this still supported by the community. If you're passing through Arcola do yourself a favor and get off the highway for dinner!

An okay place to stop in if you are in the area. The food is good and plentiful. Not a huge selection, but decent quality. I liked the sweet peanut butter and the chicken noodles.

We stopped in for breakfast on a road trip and were looking forward to an Amish breakfast. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was standard. Over easy eggs were cooked spot on. Buttermilk pancakes were yummy. The Amish sausage I was not a big fan of but then again it is different from what we have come to expect from commercial sausage. Being where it was and what it was, my expectation was for a cheap eat, not so. Still spent over $30 on breakfast for nothing fancy. So a little disappointed by the prices. The place features a cool old claw foot bathtub up front that someone has modified to be a couch. Tip - If you are nearby, definitely take a moment to swing around the corner and check out the hippie memorial next door.

Had the roast beef sandwich and potato cakes. Ended with the apple pie a la mode. All in all great food!

I you're looking for a genuine HOME COOKED meal, you've found it at Dutch Kitchen. The bread and apple butter are made from scratch and the bread served still hot from the oven. I had roast pork lunch special and it was soooo tender. Homemade stuffing and mashed potatoes all topped with delicious homemade gravy. Even the green beans were not straight from a can to your plate. They were cooked with a little bacon for added flavor. Too stuffed to try the pies but bet they are awesome. Small gift ship near cash register with jars of locally made Amish Yoder apple butter and the like. Well Worth the three minute drive off interstate 57!

Our recent trip to Wisconsin had us checking out some places that we had been curious about on other trips through the area. The Dutch Kitchen was one of them. We took the twists and turns off the main road to find the place. It is downtown, and while it seemed to have a few shops open, it was almost deserted. But, it was a bit over noon, so perhaps most people were at work some where, who knows? Upon entering there was a nice aroma in the air, and it felt as if you had stepped back in time. A lot of antique looking bric-a-brac around, ancient looking photos in frames on the walls, and a few racks of various 'home-made' type of jellies, jams, etc. that they were selling. The man at the register counter waved us towards the back, where the tables were, handed us menus, and told us to sit wherever, then proceeded back to doing something or other at the counter as if he had already dismissed us. At least the waitress was very nice, and answered questions, took our order and brought us our drinks. My husband ordered Baked Cod Fish, and I chose the special of the day Chicken and Noodles. It seems that they have a daily special that reminds me of our small town's old diner that had daily Blue Plate Specials when I was growing up. I had wanted a salad to go with my lunch, but after looking over their choices I decided I did not want to pay what they were asking for simply a small salad. She did allow me to have a small dish of English Pea Salad in place of one of my sides. We were brought a plate with a thin slice of bread each, with Apple Butter. The bread was good, but it didn't taste like it was home made, or if it had been it was yesterday's. The Apple Butter was good as well, but the butter spread in the tiny packages would not spread well because the bread wasn't even warm. That was a disappointment. My Chicken and Noodles didn't taste exactly like it had been from a can, and it wasn't that bad considering the noodles were supposed to be some of the fresher Amish ones they sold in bags, but it was bland except for what tasted like black pepper. Hubby's Baked Fish though was very good, it was seasoned well and wasn't over cooked. A taste he gave me made me wish I had ordered that instead of the special. The Mashed Potatoes we both had were a bit too lumpy, but seasoned well and fairly good. The Gravy though came out of a bottle or a prepackaged mix (I recognized the under-taste they seem to always have, especially the cheaper ones). It had a bitter taste to it, like it had a hefty dash of vinegar in it that hadn't been reduced down, so we raked it off the potatoes. His green beans were fairly good, seasoned a bit with some type of pork. My English Pea Salad was good, reminded me of my Mother's version (it had the same taste, perhaps a dash of sweet basil?) she would take to Sunday pot lucks, but it didn't have the shredded or small chunks of cheese in it. Over all it seems to be a bit of hit and miss. Perhaps if someone was a regular they would know which items to choose, and on which days. By my choosing to try the special, having water with lemon, forgoing salad, and not having a dessert we managed to get out with a bill just a little over $20.00. It did not get three stars because of the cost compared with the quality of the food. I don't think we will be leaving the main road for this one again.

We had the Sunday turkey special and Dutch Apple Pie. Waitstaff was friendly, and food was good.

Awesome fresh breakfast, friendly folk, good proportion for travelers who can 't take home leftovers. Love the Dutch sausage! We like the ambiance and the yummy apple butter. Well worth driving a few extra blocks!

We went there for lunch expecting a home cooked Amish meal One person at our table got the salad bar it had wilted lettuce and dressing with no other toppings with some questionable macaroni salads. The fried chicken was dry served with mashed potatoes that were decent and canned green beans.another person at the table got a burger that was a premade frozen patty and stale bun. Even though the food wasn't good the service was great, very friendly people. For the first time I left a restaurant wishing I would have chosen fast food.

Stopped in here on our way to and from Big Muddy River CC not as inmates going and coming but after a 2 day seminar on fathering and one of the guys in our group was familiar with this place and thought it the place of places. I was hoping it wold be a good gamily restaurant with a variety of item to choose from, NOT the menu was very limited the widest election came under the sandwich section my first visit I had the bbq pork which was OK but nothing to YELP about. The second visit, I inquired about the pork tenderloin and was told it was a frozen pattie not fresh. I've yet to find a frozen pork pattie that is yum yum for the tum tum so I passed and went with the burger and was "you got to be kidding" when it was served it was something I would have gotten at a Steak N Shake, I'm thankful it was burger special night and it was only 1.99 otherwise I would have paid $3.45 and I though Steak N Shake was a rip. I also went with the chicken & rice soup and it was nothing to YELP about either. The few pieces of chicken were good but the rice? I didn't now rice came in such small grains, there was 1 & /12 slices of carrots and some peas but for one who enjoys mosts soups this one wasn't. The only positive I can say is the pie I had dutch apple crumb both times and it was very tasty. However though they list several pies on the board they are were out of about half of them. The going out the door is there are more trips planned down to prison in southern Illinois with the same guy driving thus I'm sure will return so in attempt to put a good on an UGH with prison food for lunch and Dutch Kitchen for two of my three dinners I'll be eating well in that I won't be stuffing the gut with calories I don't need.

We came to Arcola and the surrounding area for some antique shows. Read good things online about their meatloaf and chicken & noodles. Problem #1: These 2 items are only available once a week - and not on the Saturday when we visited. Boo. Hiss. Problem #2: No paper towels in the rest room. (and no hand dryers) Someone should be monitoring this - are the employees rubbing their hands on their pants? Problem #3: This is the deal breaker. I'm standing in line after our lunch and I noticed a pile of napkins on the counter near the cash register. There was an older woman standing there behind the counter who proceeded to pickup a paper napkin to blow her nose. Imagine my surprise when she tossed the snotty nose rag into the garbage and picked up the next napkin and proceeded to put plastic utensils on it - rolling it up for unsuspecting customers future use. I should have reported this to the health department. We won't be returning....

My boyfriend and I visited here while we were visiting his grandparents in Oakland, IL. I had heard about the Dutch Kitchen because they eat here everytime they're in town. They're known for their pie and their breaded tenderloin sandwiches. I found their menu to be a little sparse which was a little disappointing but I can't knock them since this is Small Town America. I got the grilled chicken breast which was very good. For dessert I had some of their peanut butter cream pie which was heavenly. I definitely recommend it.

Interesting stop if youy're driving I 57 and it's lunch time. Because it's supposed to be Amish Country, and they call it "Dutch Kitchen," although the Dutch and the Amish are not related, you give it a try. My wife had white beans and corn bread, sort of a soup, and I had a Rueben Sandwich. Then we tried a Dutch Apple Pie, which the waitress claimed was the freshest in the place. None of it was great,, but this is "Nowwheresville." It's typical of what you'd find in a small cafe 50 years ago. The salad bar, which was nothing special, was $4.99 extra with the meal. They need some marketing skills. If you're already paying for a meal, the salad bar should cost less than it would if you wanted to make a whole meal of it. If you want real Amish, perhaps you have drive to Arthur, another 1/2 hour. Next time on 57, we'll plan our timing to arrive somwhere else for lunch.

We have been coming here since our daughter went to college at Eastern Illinois University. She graduated years ago but we come back at least once a year to enjoy the great food (our favorites are the meat loaf and broccoli casserole and also the Amish sausage and chicken noodles!). The restaurant provides a great placemat/map of the area places of interest. During the Fall the pumpkin patch is not to be missed and stop at the bakery for the pumpkin cookies. They are amazing and worth the trip!! Enjoy.
