Great enclosed beer garden! The food is really good and reasonably priced. Best appetizers in town. Great bar! If you want to go someplace casual and get a good steak, burger, mixed drinks or beer this is a great place to go..

Ok, I have to admit, I don't go to Mac's Time Out Lounge for the alcohol or Off Track Betting. What draws me is their outdoor patio and their pizza, which is THE best (in both taste and value) in the Riverbend area. Plus, if you go on Monday or Tuesday, you get the crazy deal of $2 for an 8 inch two-topping pizza! I'm also a fan of the Machos with sweet beef. So freakin' yummy!

Went here on a sunday with my family and for Alton, this was a very nice experience, although it isnt my cup of tea to eat out in a bar. The food time was long but I spent most of it talking to my family so I didn't mind. I ordered the shrimp and they tasted great I just wish I had more. I ordered their classic american burger, the only complaint I have is getting it medium rare but over all it tasted delicious. I would definitely come back with my family again

My experiences here seem to get better and better thanks to the hot wings and the friendly bartender "Amanda". She made us her famous "Rum Riffic" drink and is willing to make drinks from drink apps off from our phone we give to her. The cranberry appley martini was very good. The bbq chicken pizza was also great. There is live music and entertaining watching the people here. It's a nice date night place.

We were out celebrating my bosses birthday. We sat in the covered patio area, this place was very nice, TV's at every table and 4 above the bar. The down side in the outside area one can smoke. They do have some smoke eaters. The servers were very friendly and the drinks were tasty.

After leaving the movie theater, the wife and I weren't safe with ending the evening in an uneventful mood, soo I drove over to Alton, IL to her surprise. We landed at Mac's and we're greeted by the Mixologist Amanda, after ordering and eating we all talked and had a delightful time. MAC'S is a great place to go for a drink with friends, an evening with family, or just a quick date with the spouse. Enjoy!!!!!

$1.99 7" two-topping pizza special was a good deal. It was a medium crust pizza, fairly generous toppings given the price. You'd need a couple to fill you up. Also had garlic chicken wings. If they're any indication of how good their other varieties are, I won't hesitate to try them. Good service, reasonably priced, nice atmosphere.

We don't traditionally go to Mac's because there are so many more places better to go with a better craft beer line up, but being home brewer's & active in the StL beer scene decided to try because of Templer brewing being produced there and is only one of a few places on tap....... Beer was ok, but the food......HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! Most likely the WORST BLT sandwich ever made!! After using 3 Napkins to try and soak the oil of the lukewarm 5 strips of bacon I gave up!!! Bread was so oily and tomato was sliced with the core and green. When I showed it to the server, all I got was her saying eewww, no offer to replace or refund. Take my advise, if you want a local dive with great food beer and service, try Johnson's or sport's Tap.

Their steaks are amazing! They are so tender they practically melt in your mouth. Their food portions are also definitely generous. Time Out/ Macs also has excellent bartending staff and I really enjoy the wide variety of people that it attracts.

This bar is quite large! It has an outside, dance floor, pool tables, and lots more. Its normally busy, so if you looking to meet some people and have a good time, and not want to bar hop. This is your bar. I personally don't like it because of its size and the amount of people that can be there. But I hear it can get crazy fun.

Been to Macs five times and had two amazing dinners and three disappointing lunches. Recently moved here and tried their ribs. Pretty good stuff. Came back for more a week later. Still good. Brought family with me on the third visit - this is where Macs went off the rails. Slow service. Food was ok at best. When I said something, they made it right with a gift certificate. Came back a few weeks later intending to enjoy the gift certificate. Same experience. 40 minute wait. Talked to the same manager. He felt bad. Gave us another gift certificate. Third time was today. Food was good. Until my wife found an eight inch hair in her garlic potatoes. Yuck. We want to like Macs, but they seem to be destined to fail. Anyone else had the same experiences?

Fun dive in downtown alton, cheap drinks, funny crowd, and you can bet any horse track across the country...nothing better then a drunk degenerate...you wont hate this place

Food is just mediocre at best and takes a LONG time to be delivered. Men's restroom kind of nasty and no paper towels. Worst thing is that people are allowed to smoke out on the covered outdoor patio. Stay away from here and go to Fast Eddies for excellent cheap food, and a much better atmosphere.

Okay, an update. Last night was the first time we have been to Mac's and not been happy. I ordered the lobster bisque soup when we arrived at 6pm...was informed they were out. Okay, instead, I ordered the tenderloin and grilled shrimp special and I didn't have very high hopes since it was only $12-ish. The steak was decent (small, maybe 5oz) and the baked potato was yummy (you put enough ranch dressing on any baked potato and it'll be ahhhmaaaazing) but the three shrimp on a skewer were ROCK HARD. I could barely get them off the skewer, ate one and left the others on the plate as they were entirely too dry/well done for my liking. My hubby ordered one of the new gourmet burgers with home-made potato chips and he said his greek burger was entirely flavorless. It was a burger with gyro meat and sauce on it. He ate the pieces individually and said it was a little bit better, but nothing to write home about. The homemade potato chips were dripping with grease. Next time, I'll stick with my usual ceaser salad. :-)

There are a lot of good things to say, but the bad things really affected the rating. The food it GREAT! The burgers are delicious and the homemade chips are delicious. They also have a great pizza that you can get for $1.99 on Monday or Tuesday. They have a huge beer garden and usually great live music on the weekends. Now for the bad. They have OTB for horse races so that draws in some questionable people. They also need to REALLY step up the game in the bathrooms. They are small, have cracking tiles and no AC (this makes a huge difference on a Saturday night when you have to wait 20 minutes when you've been drinking). My last real complaint would be the plastic screen they put up in the winter for smoking. That's fine if you want to keep your beer garden open, but you need to get some ventilation to pull the smoke out because it can get unbearable at times. Overall it's a great dive to get great food, but don't expect much as far as anything else.

SUPER PLACE, SUPER SERVICE, SUPER FOOD, SUPER ATMOSPHERE!!!! I love Mac's This place has everything you could want for a fun night out. Like to drink? There are 2 and sometimes 3 full bars running with great bartenders and they have good drink specials as well. Like to eat? They have the BEST food of any bar anywhere. They have a nice sized menu, everything is made in house and it as FABULOUS! The pizza is to die for, ravoli is great, onion rings are huge and hand breaded. Like sports, well they have flat screens EVERYWHERE and a big projection screen at the one end. You will never miss a minute of the action and if you like placing bets, the otb parlor is great as well. DON'T PASS THIS PLACE UP!

This is a huge bar downtown. Lots of space to hang out with friends. If you're into OT horse racing they have that too. They also have really good food and awesome bartenders!

Even though the service for food took way, way too long, I'd go back for a drink. I like the bar but as far as food, just okay and plan on spending a lot of time chasing down your server for food, condiments and drinks.
