We found this restaurant by accident because the one we are looking for was closed and we are glad we did. The food and service were excellent. I had the chicken panini with camelized onions and my wife had the turkey and brie panini. We split a wedge salad and asparagus mushroom soup. The sandwiches were nicely grilled, seasoned and tasty, although the turkey was a bit light on turkey, with one deli slice. The wedge salad had lots of Bleu Cheese and the soup was outstanding, made with fresh asparagus, mushrooms, and a chicken broth base. All the ingredients were fresh and well prepared. The proprietress, Terri Beaubien, was very nice and showed us her innovative breakfast menu. She and her husband are new owners and redecorated in cheery country French. We would definitely eat here again if we are in the area.

Love LOVE this place! Their ingredients are always fresh and food is handmade with love. If you haven't tried their soups and salads then you're missing out. I do wish their prices were a little more friendly and if they offered espresso beverages I'd be in heaven. Rented this spot for my baby shower and everyone was so accommodating. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. And the rent $$ is very reasonable. Would recommend this spot to anyone that lived in the area.

A friend invited me to have lunch with her. She warned me that the chef and owner are not the best time managers, I wondered what she meant by that but I quickly learned. We arrived around 11 when they opened, I was dining with a senior and yes they think lunch is at 11. She was raving about how good the Mushroom Asparagus soup was and that I really needed to try it. Okay I was ready, well here is where the time management or mismanagement factor came into play. The soup was still 30 minutes from being ready to serve, when they open the doors at 11. Hmmmm, yes you read that correctly not ready to be served when they opened their doors. My friend settled on the Mediterranean salad and turkey Panini. I had the Market club. The sandwich arrived with a hefty sandwich sliced in half with an ample amount of bacon, turkey and lettuce. Each half got a slice of tomato and a spread that was spicy. I asked the waitress to refill my glass twice. Billy goat chips and pickle slices (not a spear) which would have been easier to eat. I wanted a cup coffee because I was freezing, the coffee was luke warm, and I asked the server if she had almond milk... She responded what is that...... Ummm never mind. This place has touches of elegance, but they used paper napkins and the lunches are served in plastic It was interesting...

Small selection of sanos and what I suspect are home made soups...everything is pretty good here, and inexpensive, much like everything in the area. its a nice place to have lunch, drink wine, and make fun of your wife for spilling soup on her pants

I have lunched at State Street Market four or five times now. There is a lovely courtyard with a wall of windows facing it. The decor is charming. Generally, the food is tasty. Portions tend to be small, with emphasis on bread. The last time I was there, my dining companion ordered a salad with chicken. She was told that there was very little chicken left and it had to be saved for sandwiches. The waitress also said that they were out of olives (one of the ingredients for the salad). My dining companion then said substituting turkey would be okay, if that was necessary. The waitress said she would check, but then she did not come back and let us know. The salad came with 1 oz of lunchmeat-style turkey. It was a very disappointing $12 salad. The potato soup was wonderful. Generally, I would recommend going for soup and ambience.

Fresh, delicious food, bright cheerful interior, great gift store attached. It just doesn't get better for a historic downtown-area cafe. Just wish they were open on Sunday's so I could go then too.
