I have to begin by thanking Aspin for her review on Yelp. If it were not for her, I would have never discovered Mini Corral Hamburgers and it is only four blocks from my work. It may be on "Main Street", but Main Street in Alton is not the main drag, so it is off the beaten path. Now that I have discovered it, I may never brown bag again. My first visit I enjoyed a Cheeseburger, with just the basics; ketchup, mustard and pickles. The hamburger was hand pressed and char broiled. It tasted as good as one I would make myself in the backyard. It extended the entire circumference of the entire bun. As I took each bite, I wondered why any one would go to a fast food burger joint when they have MCH in their town. This has to be the first place that I have been to that gives you a choice of traditional fries or steak fries. I'm use to choosing between seasoned, curly or sweet, but never steak. I'm a fan of steak Fry's, so I will always go with a thick meaty fry. Their regular fry is a crinkle cut. They also offer onion rings, can't wait to try them. In addition to offering some of the best home made Root Beer by the glass or by the gallon for $4.59, they also have home made Red Cream soda. As a child, red cream was my favorite soda. The staff is small town friendly, so they offer service with a big smile. I can order ahead and my order is always ready when I arrive. The menu is extensive and I can't wait to try some of the other offerings. It has sliders, catfish, chicken tenders and even steaks. Keep in mind it is a cash only business and there is no ATM on the premises. Next time your across the river in Alton, I recommend you stop by and enjoy a Root Beer and a slider, so you can experience one of the jewels of Alton. You'll then realize there is more to Alton then, Fast Eddies and Moonlight.

We were searching for a place to eat lunch with good ratings in Alton that hopefully didn't have a full, over flowing parking lot. We found the perfect spot. We ordered a couple mini burgers, catfish sandwich, crinkle fries, small order of wings and of course the raved about root beer. All were yummy!!! Some of the best wings I've had in quite awhile. Wish we lived closer so we could call in a to go order on a whim. Definitely will be back.

Best homemade root beer, great menu, great food, and outstanding service. The guy that runs this place is genuine and knows his regulars. Everything here is cooked to order. The mini burgers put White Castle to shame. Everything we've ordered has always been piping hot and tasty. You can't go wrong with anything you order here. Their signature are the mini burgers, root beer and cream soda. Places like this are hard to come by with all the chain restaurants in the world. Give these guys a try but do know it's cash only.

It was literally the best mouthwatering experience I had in Alton. I visited here with my mother in the afternoon yesterday and let me tell you, the staff was extremely nice, and it shot beyond my expectations. I had the jalapeno half pound burger and it wasn't too hot it was just in the middle of the right kind of spice. The burger was juicy and I loved every little bit of it. I'm not much of a root beer drinker and as soon as i had one of they're homemade root beer I was hooked. I highly recommend stopping by and trying one of they're delicacies. I also love the old timey atmosphere.

Great food and friendly service! Very reasonably priced too! All the food is delicious, but I can never get past the grilled chicken Caesar salad. I know, I know... who gets a salad at a burger joint? Well if you tried their salad, you definitely would! The dressing is homemade, the lettuce is always fresh, and it is topped off with croutons and fresh parmesan cheese plus chicken if you choose. Oh and you have to get a homemade root beer if you come because it's the best!

Quite simple... Pretty good burgers. It's a small place, but clean and good.

Great mini burgers! You will have to wait a spell because they make it fresh. Tasty homemade root beer. Hole in the wall joint so don't expect much when you drive up. The double Swiss burger is yummy! The employees were very friendly. Typical fried foods and drinks but hot and fresh so it was good.

I love Alton. I really do. I can't wait to get out, but I am glad you are here to come back to. I'm sorry I passed by you all these years I've lived in Alton and thought you looked like one of the most disgusting places to eat ever. But really how can you mess up deep frying things and mini hamburgers? Oh, I know make home made root beer too. Wait, that makes it better. So I don't know. I guess I need to go try the home made red cream soda now and get a double swiss mini burger. The singles were good, but a double is always better. "Onion things" were awesome! Theres plenty more to try out.

Here's one that's hard to find unless you know your way around mid-town Alton, since this is not on any of the main roads. Mini Corral is one that I first heard about only a few months ago because of great reviews from friends and co-workers. It's a nice alternative to some of the other similar places in that area. They are mostly known not just for their hamburgers, but they have a full, decent menu complete with several fried foods (fried broccoli, anyone? lol) and seafood. In addition, they make their own root beer and cream soda. Their .79 hamburgers (.10 w/ cheese) are similar to little White Castles, but unlike them, Mini Corral's are actually filling and they're more tasty. The fries are great, as they are crinkle-cut. I have yet to try some more of their menu items, but their burgers are a great place to start. One time I had their half-pound jalapeno burger, and it was awesome! The root beer is great, as I am a fan of independently made sodas and such. Combine all that with the great service as its usually the same guy behind the counter (assuming its the owner?) who is always very helpful and appreciative of its business. It seems like a place that has many regulars, as the guy pretty much called everyone by their name! Don't worry, I'll be one of them someday (laughs). This place does NOT take cash. Usually I gripe about places like that but unlike the others Mini Corral does it for the right reasons. They actually try to keep their prices down to reasonable. And so far, they have done good. (I believe there's an ATM at the gas station down the street....) It's all worth every penny, and its one of the few places you can come in with a 10-dollar bill and still have change back AND not come out hungry. You can't beat that. Give this place a shot and bring your friends.

Yesterday, I enjoyed a hamburger that was three visits in the making. Let me explain. In a world without Yelp, I probably never would have tried this place. I don't live in Alton nor do I have any specific reason to go to Alton, but even if I did, I likely would have driven past Mini Corral without ever giving it a second thought. It's a tiny--or perhaps, "mini"--building at the intersection of Main Street and Brown Street. The exterior is unimpressive, and the small parking lot lacks well-defined parking spaces. In other words, it kind of looks like a dump. Fortunately, we live in a world where Yelp and various Internet resources can help a hungry stranger in a strange land make an educated decision about where she should eat lunch. I learned about Mini Corral from Steven B, who in turn, learned about this place from Aspin H. The chain, so far, has been: Aspin H.---Steven B.---Kitty W. Steven kept posting fantastic pictures of his Mini Corral meals, and as it turned out, both my husband and I had independently bookmarked this place. When I learned my husband was interested in trying Mini Corral, we headed over to Alton for the first of three visits. BACKGROUND INFO First of all, I should mention this is not a place for dieters. They offer burgers and various fried foods. Drinks include Pepsi products and their own homemade root beer. Other reviewers have raved about the root beer, but I've never liked root beer in general. I'll just take water, please. :) You'll order at the counter. Many people seem to take their food to go, but a small no-frills dining area is available. It has about 8 tables, each with 2 - 4 chairs. They have mustard and ketchup in pump dispensers in the dining area. The dispensers aren't very big. As you fill your tiny paper cup with ketchup (or mustard), take my advice: If it feels like the pump isn't pumping anything, don't keep trying! The ketchup was low on one of my visits, but I love my ketchup. I gave the pump six or seven pushes, thinking I'd at least be able to fill my tiny cup. Nope. On the last pump, ketchup ended up exploding all over my shirt and missing my cup entirely. I smelled of ketchup for the rest of the day. VISIT ONE I'm honestly not a huge fan of hamburgers. I'll have one every now and then, but they don't really excite me. So, on visit one, I ordered three chicken tenders. The husband ordered a half-pound burger, and we shared a large order of crinkle fries. My chicken tenders were good and were served piping hot. The batter tasted like the batter you'd find on fried chicken, but it was quite salty. Toward the end of our meal, my husband offered me a bite of his burger. It was delicious. This might not be the best slogan, but I described the burger as being "like Burger King, but better." It was seriously good. It had a great flame-broiled flavor, and I wished I had ordered a burger for myself. I swore right then and there that I would return to have one of my very own. VISIT TWO I returned to Mini Corral on Mother's Day. Yes, I made the 45-minute drive to Alton because a Mini Corral burger is what I wanted on /my/ day. (I have two furbabies.) "Mini Corral is open on Sundays," I thought. "Mother's Day is a popular day for dining out," I thought. "Surely, Mini Corral will be open as their Facebook page doesn't indicate otherwise," I thought. At this point, you probably can guess what happened: I arrived at Mini Corral, and they were closed. VISIT THREE One week later, I finally had my burger. I ordered it with lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. The burger itself was larger than the bun, and it had such great flavor that I think I might have enjoyed it even more if I hadn't ordered it with all that frou-frou vegetation. Oh, well. I'll order a plain burger on visit four. ;) RATING Mini Corral might not be a fancy place, but they make good food. Although it took three trips to Alton, my burger was worth the wait. I now have a very specific reason to go to Alton: more burgers! Who will be next to pay them a visit? Aspin H.---Steven B.---Kitty W.---You?

This place is great. I found this place on Yelp while searching for a place to eat in Alton before the Elite Yelp party. I'm glad I chose this joint. Its less than a 5 min drive from the bridge. Their slider burgers are really good but what they are known for is their homemade root beer. Definitely try the root beer. Its amazing. I also like the salad dressing I had with my salad. I think its homemade as well. The service was very friendly. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you.

The owner here is a really nice guy. The place is cash only but he is just trying to keep prices down. The did is cooked to order and is always fresh and amazing. If you are considering a chain fast food restaurant, come here instead. Prices are lower and the food is higher quality. The large burgers taste like the beef is higher quality than the minis but they are are both delicious. The catfish sandwich and dinner are delicious. The cornmeal coating on the catfish flavorful and delicious. The funnel cake is a delicious treat without going to a fair. The food is so hot it is still piping hot when you get home if you get carryout. A real gem.

Let me preface this review by saying this place is CASH ONLY! You've been warned. The service can be a bit of a hit or miss, but if you can get past that, they make a pretty damn good burger (by Alton standards at least). The restaurant is on the smaller side, but there are a few tables for those who want to dine in. What sets Mini Corral apart from other places is that they grind their own beef in house daily and make your burger to order. The house made root beer is also worth the trip alone. I usually order the one pound burger meal which comes with fries and a drink. The one pounder usually comes with 2 half pound patties which are charred on the exterior yet juicy inside. The toppings are pretty basic i.e. lettuce, tomato, onions, etc so don't come in expecting to add brie cheese or an sunny side up egg on top. They're a little skimpy on the fries but the burger is now than enough to fill you up. Also free refills are a plus! The chicken tender meal is also worth trying out. They're freshly breaded and fried to golden brown perfection! Their fried cheese curds were also delicious and inexpensive. I'd avoid the sliders. The patties didn't have much flavor and seemed to be store bought. The broccoli tots (deep fried fritters with broccoli, potato, cheese and bacon) were decent but nothing special. They also make their own cream soda, but I found it to be waaay too sweet with my friends appropriately naming it liquid diabetes. Skip it and get more root beer.

Mini Corral may be a small Joint, But its a Giant in Burgers and Root Beer, If you Love Mini Burgers like Kids go here, Try the 1/2 Pounder and Chili, the Onion Things, The Broccoli Tots are super good, there food is top notch, even Sals Steaks are awesome, in a hurry call ahead they do LOTS of takeout, Mini Corral rates the best for me of Burger Joints, the Home Made Root Beer is the best anywhere.

Mini Corral is the epitome of hole-in-the-wall. They offer a wide array of foods. Everything from deep fried mozzarella sticks to steaks. Not to be missed are their small burgers (think White Castles, but less grease) and the fantastic homemade Root Beer. The food is prepared quickly and the owner is an awfully nice guy. Definitely a "local place" with a steady flow of regulars.
