Been to better Japanese steak houses. Everything was average.

Came here today for sushi. I'm overhearing my friends talk about this place and I decide to give it a try with them. The rice was bland, and either under or overcooked. There was far too much rice for the amount of fish on my sushi. Everything tasted okay here. Nothing spectacular. The only good parts of sushi that I had here was the kiss me or not roll, with the mango sauce, the shrimp, and the smoked salmon. That was the only thing to stand out of the entire all you can eat buffet. Everything else fell flat. Would not come back. My friends kept having rolls that weren't rolled tight enough, and everything would fall out.

Have had two good experiences here. Location/Atmosphere- I originally never considered this place based on the exterior, but the inside is inviting and clean. My only complaint is that guests are seated pretty close together at the hibachi grill. Food- extensive sushi and hibachi menu. Everything I've tried as been good. Plus, the portions are generous, so you won't leave hungry ;) Staff- Attentive, nice and quick. The hibachi chefs were good. Very charismatic and entertaining. Not the most skilled I've ever seen but good enough. Birthdays- Both times I went, we had a birthday and the sang, made balloon hats and brought out an ice cream dessert.

The filet mignon was not trimmed well, it had gristle and a big chunk of fat. Our lobsters were not fully cooked and my lobster had some tough gristle -- not a good experience. Service was slow and rather unattentive, and the wait staff also wasn't too helpful with suggestions and inflexible. They did take some money off the bill and offered free ice cream and cooked the lobster more, but should have taken more off, you expect perfection at a place with prices like these.

You simply cannot beat the all you can eat sushi special for $19 on Sundays. Good selection of rolls and per piece sashimi. Not being greedy or a glutton, I had three rolls and six piece of various sushi. About fifty pieces total and close to $60 worth of food. Love sushi and no way could afford this amount of food at any other place. We also have had the hibatchi with our two teens and we all loved it. The chef made it fun and entertaining. And it was great for a Birthday....They even give a discount on the Birthday meal and sing a song!

Did not expect for this place to be so good similar to Benihana's and I love that place service is great I ordered the steak an lobster an Sushi my wife order the teriyaki chicken an we also had the chicken Fred rice everything was amazing.. The entertainment was excellent my daughter had a blast keep up with the good work

The outer decor needs some serious work. I wasn't sure they were still in business we got there. They more than made up for that with service and food quality. The manager was circulating was very kind and helpful. The food was top notch. I went on Valentine's weekend with my husband and children, so it was busy, but not as busy as i expected it to be. We had the garlic shrimp, golden shrimp, fillet mignon, and Philadelphia roll sushi. Everything was delicious. The hibachi guy was amazing and really entertaining. Definitely 5 stars once they update the outside of the building.

Went back again for a sushi-only run. We had the "club sandwich" roll, the "angel wings" roll, the rainbow roll, and a spider roll, and some of the standard pieces of sushi. Even though we were sitting right in front of the sushi chef, he wouldn't make anything until we flagged our waitress and asked her for it, then she went over and put the order into the computer, and the ticket printed to the little printer next to him. Odd, but I didn't care because I was enjoying the food. While we were eating someone turned on a disco ball and cranked up some awesome 'happy birthday" music for a group of people sitting around one of the hibachi tables. Even after that, there was some singing by the waiters, and a person distributing balloon hats. Apparently you can eat for free here on your birthday. I am liking this place more and more. I will be back.

Kobe is a Japanese restaurant with something for everyone. They have the hibachi cookers -- like Benihana. They have a sushi bar. And they have a full menu of Japanese items like noodles and tempura dishes. The "hibachi" show is fun, but we were lucky to try many other items off the menu, and I have to say that the noodles were very good, the sashimi was good, and the tempura was very good. The sushi was fresh, the presentation very good. The place seems very clean as well. The place is going through some changes and updates right now, and the staff we met are all experienced people who know their business. When they pull all the pieces together, this will be a great place for all things Japanese. Yes, they have Kobe beef here -- we did not try it. TIP: Check out the specials menu board. Lots of unique stuff to try. Today they had Yellowtail and Jalapenos!

Excellent sushi!! We are fans of Kaminari another sushi place in the area however they were closed tonight due to the heat. We have lived in the area for 5 years and have never tried Kobe but figured since it was close by we would give it a chance. So happy that we took the chance. The spicy tuna was so fresh and the spicy scallop roll was perfect. We ordered 3 other specialty rolls as well and all were wonderful. The house salad and ginger dressing are out of the this world. This will be our go to sushi place from now on! Highly recommend!

If there was an award for the cleanest restroom in a restaurant, this would be your blue ribbon winner. Kobe Steakhouse is a sushi bar/ hibachi table/ sit down table place where you can have it your way. Is it your birthday? Treat the family to a nice sit down, flaming chef prepared dinner! Need a quick lunch with a friend to catch up? Sit at the sushi bar and be surprised. Your kids will love the hibachi show.

Maybe I've just been spoiled because I've had some really amazing sushi in places like Hawaii & California, heck, I've even had decent sushi from Mitsuwa market in Schaumburg, but this was not great, even for Midwest sushi. I ordered 2 rolls to go & sat & waited for my order. The eel that I ordered was heated up in the microwave, as evidenced by the tell tale "ding" from the timer. I knew I was in trouble when I heard the bell go off. I got the rolls home & opened my bag...tiny tiny tiny. They were about the size I would have expected if they were just cucumber rolls or something. The SF roll was really bland. There was just a smidge of tobiko in it, not even enough for the pleasant texture in your mouth. The rest of the roll was covered in sesame seeds (meaning that they really cheaped out). The roll was tasteless at best. I had to dunk it in shoyu (soy sauce) and wasabi just to give is SOME sort of flavor. The eel roll was equally as small, but it had a sort of fishy taste, which I'm guessing came from reheating the cooked fish in the microwave (yuck). The only good thing that I took away from Kobe was a mental note not to try sushi from a place that advertises 99 cent sushi.

Really great food, decent service and looks inside. I felt that it was overpriced though for being a mini mall Japanese restaurant. If we had a groupon it may be worth it but been there, liked it, going back only on special occassion.

Great sushi. Chicken fried rice is great as well. My only complaint is my favorite dinner item, golden shrimp, always seems over done. The texture is just not right. But, overall I'd have to give it high marks. Soup, salad, and many of the other dinners there are very good.

Sunday through Thursday is all you can eat sushi for $ 19.95. The quality is not the greatest but it is not the worst. They seem to have a nice hibachi menu and one if of these days I will have to try their name sake Kobe beef steak. The service is prompt but tend to rush the customers a bit. Nice casual atmosphere and the prices can be a little high depending on what you order. For locals wanting semi good sushi mid week I would definitely recommend it.

i enjoyed the decor..the wall of the pictures from everyone's visit was a bit tacky, but not looking at that one wall, it was a cute little place. it wasn't too busy so it was neat watching the hibachi chef. the food was really good for being in a plaza! i didn't expect it to be great & they have proved me wrong! for the deals they've got, i am definitely going to recommend this restaurant to others!

Went on a Wednesday nite for Granddaughter's 14th birthday...called ahead & was told that she needed ID and we would get her meal up to $15 free or $15 off her meal...I thought that was very nice. HOWEVER, after we ate...4 hibachi dishes...Yogo told me it was only $8 off. Wasn't happy but then also realized they charged us for golden sauce that we never got even after I asked for it o be taken off the bill. So....the food was just ok...not bad but not so good that I would want to come right back. We have been here several times over the past few years, but this was kind of a disappointment.

Fantastic place for the Grill or Just dinner. The food is well done and the show they put on is a A+

Went here with my girlfriend on a Wednesday evening, and was fairly quiet with just ourselves and three other tables with patrons in the dining area. First thing I was curious to know is if they really had Kobe beef (which they do). We ordered the Sushi and Sashmi Combo B for $57.95, which was a fair price for a good amount that could serve more than the 2 people advertised. The combo was good, but nothing spectacular. Probably the most interesting item was the red sea bass sliced into a lotus flower and sprinkled with red masago. (I'm a big fan of all types of masago.). Overall, a good combination of sushi and sashimi, with one role that included spicy tuna (which is my favorite single roll item). The miso soup and salad appetizers were good, and so was the tea. Nothing here a huge standout, but pleasant overall. Service was very attentive, and we had some entertainment provided to us by the nearby tables with the hibachi grill. (One of the chefs tossed me a piece of shrimp to see if I could catch it in my mouth, with me being 10 feet away was most entertaining for myself and other patrons.) Next time I go, I'm going to try some of the Chef's special rolls and the tuna avacado salad. Worthy trying more than once.

I love Kobe, from their golden sauce to their hibachi, I do not care for sushi, but I do get the AAC roll which is very yummmy yummmy yummy, and fresh tasting!! .... Also, they have amazing fried rice, and I even got a job there from going there soo much lol. Jappanesse John is the best!! I loove him!!! He's a good owner :D HIGHLY RECCOMENDED! MY FAVORITE PLACE EVER!

KOBE = Bennihanna as far as menu choice, and the tabletop hibachi. Kobe is much more affordable, and it is was not as crowded as bennihanna when we had dinner there. The drinks from the bar were poured strong, and the service was friendly. This was a long trip for me to meet some friends, otherwise I would have been back already.

  • Keith K.

Sushi was fair, service was fair, one thing you don't do to me is to take the money and assume that the change is your tip! I informed them that I would not return for that reason! BTW after reading the review from Liz R. why would I expect to be charged for uneaten food. If I don't like it, I don't eat it. The menu is limited, and I get charged for uneaten food all for $20. Pass on that. Won't return EVER

My wife and I tried Kobe over the weekend and quite enjoyed it. We have enjoyed Kobe in other locations, and while this one wasn't quite as good, it was a great meal at a reasonable price. I've always found the service at Hibachi places to be really bad, but here it was actually pretty good. We don't eat sushi but what we saw at our table looked pretty good - large portions presented nicely. The food was excellent as usual. The fried rice is superb - they even put little bits of chicken in it! My only complaint is, no noodles. I do understand that getting the Japanese noddles at these places is hit or miss, but I really miss them. All in all, this was a pleasant surprise. Once we found the place (it's easy to miss in a giant strip mall), we were not disappointed.

First time, great food. I understand the seating is limited because they cook in front of you but I like my privacy so sitting at a table with strangers was not my favorite but with a group of my own friends, absolutely.

Kobe, you're slipping. We have been coming here awhile and this most recent trip was not good. We arrived at 6PM to just a smattering of customers. I had my thirteen year old with me and we wanted hibachi. He likes the show and and I like the food. We were seated with others at the grill. Long and short is that the customers across from us got their hibachi cooked, the diners at another table got theirs going and meanwhile we wait. And wait. The kid is hungry, my girlfriend is ready to eat and I'm getting impatient. When one of the two cooks becomes available he starts cooking on the grill in front of us. That was nearly 7:00. A RIDICULOUS wait time. The food was fine but no way was that trip worth the time or the $70.

Kobe, I am heart broken. We have been frequent visitors of this establishment for literally years. We love the food, and we always order take out. Tonight I called to place my order from my in laws driveway. I had just dropped off our new puppy and my husband and I were going to get take out Sushi for my birthday! I had a really hard time understanding the woman on the phone, who I think is the owners wife. After about 10 minutes of taking my order and she repeated it back to me, but it sounded incorrect so I asked to speak with someone else. I had luck with Taylor. She was pleasant, got my order together and gave me 25 minutes till it was time to pick up. I got there about 10 minutes prior to the time I should have been. They were packed. Lots of hibachi and all you can eat sushi goers, unfortunately I spent a lot of time with many of them looking to get a seat as we were all ignored. No one said boo to us! Not a "we will be with you in a moment" --- no "I'm so sorry we are SWAMPED we will be right with you!" just rush rush rush. I get it, I work in the industry but COMMON at least acknowledge that you have folks piling up at the door. Strike one. I finally got my sushi about 15 minutes after the quote time. I bring it home. I go wash my hands, grab drinks and plates, open up my sushi and BAM the most expensive roll I ordered is missing. SIGH. Strike two. Ive been home for 15 minutes and I haven't event received a phone call about my missing sushi because guess what, they didn't know it was missing until I called and pointed it out. Pretty upset that my sushi is now about 30 minutes old, as is my now cold soup, I called and complained. I was offered a gift card, I asked them to remake my special roll (didn't want the crunch to be soggy from the mayo!) and my soup so it was piping hot again and they offered that for me. I told them I would be about 15 minutes. I was informed they were under new management. I arrived AGAIN for the second time tonight and I waited. And I waited. And then I asked about it and I was told to wait some more. They got my roll ready then asked me to wait more for my soup. Strike three. I left without my soup because now my original sushi is about 50-60 minutes old, my soup is cold, I didn't get the new soup since I didn't want to wait another 15 minutes and have my special roll go soggy again, and I am finally home. My husband and I, who are absolutely famished at this point, open the sushi bag, lay out the sushi on the plates and go to mix our...wait...no wasabi? No ginger? ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME?! My husband returned our food, and we gave our gift card to a table who I waited with the first time I was there. We received a full refund. And we won't be back. We are currently on the market for a new favorite sushi place.

Service was ok. Our waiter never had eye contact with us and when we wanted to order appetizer he ran off to get our drinks and took awhile to come back! Food was OK we did regular sushi no hibachi table! And every time we tried to have a conversation the music would blast in the whole place for someone's birthday! It's nice to want to celebrate someone's birthday, but do we have to feel like we are in Chuckee cheese!

We went on a Saturday night between 7pm & 8pm. When we walked in, it seemed as if it might be awhile before we got a seat. We stood in front of the guy at the register for ALMOST 10 minutes before someone else asked us how many and if we wanted to sit at the grills or a side table. The original guy at the register just kept looking up at us standing there. When we finally got seated, it took another 10-15 minutes before a waiter came to take our drink order. When he brought back the drinks, he took our order then disappeared for the rest of the night. A completely different waitress brought us our food, which is not a big deal but no one came to check if everything was alright with the food or drink. Then it was a toss up for the rest of the meal if we could get refills. By the end of the meal, we had yet another different waitress asking how many boxes and getting us our check. The service, even though it seems like there were PLENTY of waiters/waitresses, was very poor. The food was not that good either. It's been a long time since I've given anyone less than a 20% or more tip....it was a struggle to give them 15% tonight and the three of us at the table thought that was too generous. I would not go back here given the choice.

This is my second time here and I can't get enough of it. There steak and chicken combination and sushi are highly recommend. Can never go wrong! They cook the food in front of you and to your liking. Great for the whole family. Will continue to get my business.

I'm giving this 5 stars because I want to give 4.5 stars and can't. Tempura here is awesome and so is the Hibachi (seriously some of the best I've had in a LONG time). We have yet to try the sushi. We were told that Kyoto in Crystal Lake was the best around, but after seeing their prices we said no thanks. Kobe is reasonably priced and delicious!!

  • Justin M.

We frequent Kobe, they have good food for the price. My wife and I went in today at 2:25 pm and were told they close at 2:30, and to come back later. There were many guests eating inside, in fact, there was a couple that had been seated shortly before us that was just giving their drink order. We pointed out their open sign was still on. As we were escorted out she turned the sign off. With as many sushi bars in the area that are open past 2:30 we will be finding a new sushi restaurant to spend our money.

Sushi - 3.5 Tempura - 3.75 Hibachi guy with the volcano and peeing boy contraption - solid 4 Let's call it a 4. Sushi in the far out 'burbs... I was a bit apprehensive coming from the city, but having dined at the Sushi Para chains and finding it to be a good place to pig out on sushi at affordable prices, why not. My coworker claims it's better. Is it??? Sure, fish looked fresh, good amount of ingredients, not too overlly stuffed with rice. There's a decent amount of fancier rolls to choose from and they are all pretty good. The one caveat, despite my love for mangos, is to watchout for rolls with mango sauce. The overt sweetness detracted from the flavor of the tuna and avocado rolls. Some dig it like my coworker, I did not. Also, note some tempura rolls were cold inside, but the appetizers were hot off the fryer. The apps were great!

We come here at least 2-3 times a month if not more. We always order out and Our food always tastes great.. My only complaint is sometimes you get unevenly cut peices of sushi so we would have a good sized bite and than another that we would have to eat in multiple bites. Or super tube slices and super thick slices. Other than that complaint. This is the only place in algonquin that we like to go. We have other places that are a little father that we enjoy also but don't get there often due to the drive to it is nice to have a place nice and close to home. That is nicely prices and has good quality food :)

Worst service ever!!! Would not recommend this place to anyone. After waiting for one hour, they went to cook at a table that just sat down 20 minutes ago. The 5 people that say at our table walked out ten minutes before uis. They had a reservation at 5:45!!!if I could give it zero I would.

It seemed kinda shady when we drove into the parking lot. We weren't sure if it was open or not. We walked in and the host sat us down (table for 2). The sushi was ok, I've had better. But, it was decent. The service was not that great, after the server brought us our food, he kinda forgot about us and we had to hunt him down to get more drinks. What I would like to return for is the hibachi. It looked interesting.

  • Phil C.

Driving in you would be hard pressed to tell if the place was even open. However once you enter the place is alive with activity. Sushi was good not great. First beer was served warm the second was cold. The staff was attentive. Seating was cramped at the table for two but we made it work. Total tab with tip for two people was $109.00. I didn't visit the lavatory so I can't vouch for cleanliness... Not great. .not bad.. A-Ok

Being a sushi lover I was super excited to hear they have all you can eat for only $40 Sunday-Thursday! They have really great food at a low cost. I give them 3 stars because the last few times I went they were very short staffed and we had to wait forever for our food.... One waiter for the whole restaurant! Other than the wait time I have no complaints.... Maybe I'll just order take out next time...?

We have been to Kobe Japanese Steakhouse several times throughout the last couple years. We like to go with our friends and celebrate special occasions. Last night, we went to celebrate my daughters 5th birthday. We all ordered Hibachi except my teenage daughter who ordered 3 different kinds of sushi. My daughters sushi was fantastic. The Hibachi was fantastic. Our chef was personality free but that was okay with us... we have seen the "show" before. I love the ginger salad dressing and the steak hibachi. Always cooked perfect. Bathrooms are super clean!

This is our first time here and I am very disappointed. I ordered the sashimi plate and took them about half hour to make. And when our server, Sherry, is about to serve it, another server STOPPED her to take a picture of my food and it wasn't that great anyway. The fish do not taste fresh, it's like it has been frozen and thawed. And our server did not even bring my miso soup and salad that comes with my plate. My son ordered lobster tempura roll and it was totally drench with sauce causing the roll to crumble when you pick it up. We also ordered calamari and edemame for starter, calamari wasn't good, there was too much batter that you taste the squid anymore. And to think you cannot mess up the edemame, it was over cooked. And now for our server, didn't even bother to stop by our table to ask how is everything. Really bad service and I don't think we will be back here again and definitely will not recommend to any of my friends because I don't them to experience what we experienced. So 5 thumbs down to this restaurant.

My boyfriend and I go to Kobe at least once a month... LOVE the food, service, and atmosphere. My boyfriend raves about the sushi claiming its the best in the area. I enjoy the hibachi... Dinner for 2 price is comparable to what you would spend at Olive Garden and the quality is FAR better. Definitely getting what you're paying for.

We indulged in the AYCE special for $19.95. The AYCE menu is limited, but the fish is very good. It is normal for people to be charged for whatever is left on the plate, so I don't know why other reviews complain of this. Our service was great as well. Fun place to go for birthdays and they have specials for children, adult, and family birthdays. The walls are decorated with pictures of past celebrations, which I thought were really sweet. People must love it because there were THREE celebrations while we were there this past Sunday. I definitely will come back to try sushi off their regular menu.

I like coming here for the weekday sushi lunch specials, since I work nearby. Quick prep, inexpensive, & tasty. Sushi tasted kinda room temperature once, but it was still good.

This may be a case of my expectations being too high.... I thought this place was "A-ok" but nothing to write home about. What do I mean? I've read and heard so many good things, that I kind of expected to be bowled over by the quality, especially in comparison to where we typically go (Suchi Station). Overall, the food was good - perfecty fine. Service was not fantastic. The decor was worn. Start with the food: We did the Sunday to Thursday "all you can eat" special for $20/person - which, we think, is a good deal. You pick from a more limited menu - but there's still lots of choice. There are rules - like you have to eat what you order, leftovers are added to your bill, etc. This put my husband off - however, I see the sense of it, and they are *very* upfront about it, so I thought it was fine. (You can also choose to order a la carte.) Everything we ordered was good. Tempura vegetables were a little bland. The Michigan roll seemed a bit fishy to me. Overall though, I'm not sure we were getting significantly better sushi than at our normal haunt. Service: Meh - I've had better. The hostess was ok - not very communicative - she asked us what we wanted, and then just kinda walked away without letting us know what she was doing - were we to follow her? wait there? Turned out we needed to wait while she cleaned a table. Our server was inattentive - brought us food, but nothing to eat it with - had to hail him down to get chopsticks. He seemed a bit grumpy - but he did improve as the meal progressed, so not sure what was going on with him. Decor - the bar is a enamel-type black paint and had chips in it - and this is just fine - kinda adds to the character of the place - however, the big gouges in the wall with bare spots from chairs was unsightly - and I got to stare at it the whole meal, at our poorly located table. (Honestly, we got the worst table in the place - and there were other tables open.) One thing that was very cute and welcoming - they have a whole wall of snapshots - presumably of happy customers, and I suspect birthday celebrators. Would I recommend - Not sure... yeah, probably, with caveats. Would I return - yeah, if it was convenient to do so. Probably wouldn't go out of the way to go there.

All you can eat sushi was pretty good. I expected buffet style sushi, but it was pretty close to normal sushi. Hibachi is ok, but the best around.
