I was in a truck with my boyfriend next to their chain-link fence. The owner came out with a big silver bowl of fish throwing it over the chain-link fence to dry it. Flies were buzzing everywhere I will never eat there ever! The fish that was dry he got another bowl and put it in and took it inside. Yuck

As a new resident of Shelley, I'm glad we have a couple of places to eat in our little town. And honestly, since moving to Southeast Idaho, I've had a really hard time finding good Chinese food. So this place is probably on par with the rest of the Chinese restaurants in the area. But it's just really not too great. I picked up an order of General Tso's chicken and hot and sour soup the other night. I paid $20, which is pretty expensive for just those two items. The chicken was decent, but the soup was awful. It was thick and sweet, not sour at all. Vinegar is usually what makes hot and sour soup sour, and there obviously was none in it. So, I added my own vinegar at home. I'm sorry, but I don't like paying $7 for some soup that I have to doctor up myself to make it edible. Oh, and it had canned tomatoes in it. Usually you don't have tomatoes in this soup, so it was a little bizarre, and not tasty. If we had a craving for Chinese and didn't feel like driving to Idaho Falls, I guess we'd come back here for the General Tso's. I'd like to try more dishes as well, I just hope they're actually worth the money, and I'm a little hesitant to come here again.

They have some good dishes, but overall they're really hit and miss. I don't care for their noodles, but their rice is fine, and the more exotic-sounding dishes tend to be pretty good. The American food is bland and simple (no tomato on a simple hamburger, etc.) This is also one of the few places in Shelley (perhaps the only place in Shelley) that's big enough for a group. Great location for a birthday party if you're not up for driving to Idaho Falls.

Since I am in Shelley, there really isn't a lot of choices for food (didn't have time to run up to Idaho Falls), so I am making do; to be honest, I wasn't expecting a whole lot. Just the look of the place made me question going here. It looks like an old converted diner that is now a Chinese restaurant. It isn't exactly brimming with cleanliness. The bathroom was gross. Fyi, if you go here and need to use it, the light switches are on the outside down the hall a bit. It isn't intuitive. The bathroom itself was not good. In order to flush the toilet you have to hold down the handle. The service was ok. That being said. I ordered Curried Chicken w/o vegitables and Fried rice. After placing the order the guy came back and said it would be an extra 5 dollars to get it without vegetables. WTF? I agreed tho, nothing else looked appetizing. When I got my food I had a normal sized plate of curry, and this tiny little thing of fried rice (which was also a dollar extra). the food itself was unremarkable in anyway save for the fried rice, it was mushy and made me gag. I am glad they only brought me a small, baby sized portion. I also just realized, as I sit here and type this, that there is an odd odor. I get a whiff of it every now and again. It isn't good.

I have been waiting to write this review because the China King used to be really good. The owner, a very friendly lady, had cancer and during this time the quality had gone downhill and really became hit and miss. Over recent weeks though as the owner's health has improved the food quality has greatly improved again. The pork lo mein is some of the best I've had, the general tso's chicken is a little on the sweet side but the portion and the overall flavor and crispiness of the breading was great. The egg roll reminded me of eating here years ago. Its great to see the quality getting back to what I remember. If you haven't been in a while, stop in and give them a try.

A little pricey but they give you very generous portions. Their egg rolls are breaded and then deep fried, very delicious.
