Great breakfast. I had the Hungarian Goulash Breakfast with a German Potato Pancake and Huckleberry Aebelskivers. And to drink a Sunrise which is raspberry and fresh orange juice. My only change was to have my eggs over easy instead of scrambled in the Goulash mix. All was amazing and wonderful. Great flavors but the Huckleberry Aebelskivers were to die for! It was allot of food and I had to get a take home box. Will be back tomorrow, before I leave town!

This was our first time here and we were SO impressed! Heather was our server and she was fantastic. The food was hot, delicious and fresh. To top it off, for being first time customers Heather gave us a sample of their famous Danish Aebelskivers and a $5 gift card for the next time we come. Definitely a must stop for breakfast and lunch! Bring your appetite. Big portions!

Post Falls, ID has a this string of breakfast joints, like 6 of them in a row and this was the one we chose. This place was clean, and kid friendly. Food was average. It wasn't that special, but because the price wasn't expensive for what you're getting, the value was average. If the price was more, I would give it 2 stars. Overall, not a bad place to try, but not worth the journey unless you live nearby. I wouldn't go back, because there is too many special places to eat in Coere d'Alene area.

Service was awkward. Our server was nice enough but very unnatural.. Some of the food tasted piping out & fresh while other things were cold. The Austrian coffee was terrible.. It just tasted like oil & watered down coffee with whip cream on top.. My husband loved the biscuits and gravy though. And the fresh squeezed OJ was great. Everything else was descent. Price is high. We didn't enjoy hearing our server tell another employee she felt like terrible and wanted to throw up.. Her name was Dafinka.

We have been here a few times, friendly service. And the food is consistently good. The fresh squeezed orange juice and the complimentary Aebelskivers were delish!

We used to come here, several years ago. As someone else stated, the recipes have changed and they aren't as good as they used to be. They also charge for everthing...want some more of the blackberry sauce, $.75. I had the sampler plate and it was not nearly as good as it used to be. The potato pancakes weren't done, the abelskivers were so different as to not be what we had gone in for as that was the draw. They look like they are deep fried now and they used to be done in a special cast iron pan specifically for these. I don't think we'll be going back when there are so many other places to try. I think that for the money, there are better places to try.

Oh my! Oh My! This place was a find! We stumbled upon it the first morning of our trip, on our way to Gillette Wyoming and boy am I glad we stopped. The coffee was to die for, we tried their specialty coffee and it was tasty! The food was... oh my goodness... it was heaven! The sweet cream pancakes are no joke! If you are watching your waist line this is NOT the place to stop. The hash browns were perfection! Good selection for kids as well. And they give you a $5 off gift card for first timers, to ensure your return... Gotta say, it's quite a ways from home, but if we ever have an occasion to be in that neighborhood again we will most definitely stop in there for food!

Top notch breakfast spot AND gluten-free friendly! We were on the hunt for a place that was gluten-free friendly and we found it here...and then some. The service was excellent, the menu has European items such as to-die-for Aebleskivers, Hungarian Goulash (much like a breakfast hash), regular and buckwheat pancakes, raisin and nut oatmeal and a bacon/avocado/spinach omelet that was all delicious and served hot. The organic, shade grown French press coffee is the best I have ever tasted (I normally drink Starbucks) and I was searching the menu to find its brand, but failed. The fresh-from-the-press orange juice is also the best I have ever tasted, as well. Oh, I should not forget the in-house made raspberry jam. Yum. All 6 of us at the table were extremely pleased with our experience and wish we could bring this place to Seattle! They take pride in quality ingredients, great cooking and service.

We were on vacation in the area. A friend told my wife she had to try this place for breakfast. This is by far one of the top breakfast places I have ever been too. Food is phenomenal (and I save that word only for the best)! It truly was. Everything tasted homemade and fresh! The crepes are delicious but I recommend the Scandinavian plate. It gives you three different types of pancakes. A must get is the fresh bread and homemade raspberry jam. Definitely visit this place if you are near Spokane or Coeur d'Alene.

Great breakfast spot! Gluten free options, yummy and unique food items. Super friendly staff!
(5)Keith A.
The German cakes? Definitely all that. Everything else, coulda just gone with Denny's & saved a couple bucks. It was fine, just not blow your socks off amazing. The waitress was outstanding; never let my coffee get below half full, & offered a cup for the road. Try it, just don't mess with the Scandinavian cake plate; go straight for the German cakes. Do not pass go, do not collect $200....you get the drift. You're welcome!

Best breakfast spot in Post Falls! The menu is large so give yourself some time to look it over because there is a lot of goodies on it. Last time here I had the stuff french toast and it may be my go-to from now on. So good. The Aebelskivers are a must try. I have to mention they always have the cutest pancakes for my son. Last time they were in the shape of bear. Awesome place!
(5)Ann L.
Very good service and my veggie & bacon omelet with Browns and veggies with feta was so good I would order it next time.
(5)Lisa S.
Holy moly! We are so glad we don't live around here because we would weigh so much we'd have to be rolled around instead of walking (you know, like the blueberry girl in Willy Wonka?). The food at Old European is so good, it's almost hard to believe, and I'm not prone to hyperbole. I had the goulash, husband had eggs Benedict, son had Dutch baby with their homemade raspberry jam, and daughter had teddy bear French toast with strawberries. Everything was tasty and the portions were large. We also got three free abelskivers that were so light and fluffy and delicious, I may actually try using my grandma's old abelskiver pan when we get home. We ended up purchasing two jars of the jam to take home, it was so good. And our waiter, Brittany, was friendly, engaging and efficient. Thanks, Old European, for a great breakfast on our way out of town!
(5)Jeremy M.
What a great experience! We had heard about Old European and decided to give it a shot. It wasn't at all impressive at first, it had kind of a Denny's vibe, but as soon as we were seated that old world charm started to shine through. First, our waitress was just fantastic, ask for Heather, but I'm guessing they're all great. Take the time to read the menu, it's filled with stories of the menu items and about the history of the family. The food is delicious, although it's a little carb-heavy. It was hard to find dishes with more protein. When Heather found out that it was our first time, she brought a complimentary cinnamon roll, right out of the oven.

My sister-in-law recommended that my husband and I have breakfast here. We were visiting from California last Thanksgiving. We were so happy with our choice! We shared the variety ball pancakes (can't remember the name) but they were amazing!!!!!! Blueberry were my favorite. And I had the special coffee. Also really yummy! Can't wait to go back!
(5)Kim R.
If you haven't tried a Danish Aebelskiver, you need to get here today and try one. And then try their homemade raspberry jam. And the potato pancake. We found the Pullman location just by happenstance, and then we came to this location the following day. Dad has declared this the best breakfast and brunch place ever. High praise! He even stopped the owner to talk to him and tell him how awesome the Scandinavian Cake Plate was that we ordered. (It's the perfect way to try several things!) Be sure to let the server know if you're new.

If you want an amazing and unique breakfast/lunch that is not Dennys then here you go. the majority of its cuisine is Austrian/German and it is to die for. I recommend the fresh squeezed orange juice or Austrian Coffee as your beverage, the goulash as your main breakfast course, and maybe even a mixed plate of their stuffed Abelskievers (plain, blueberry/huckleberry depending on the season, and sausage). This can be on the more expensive end for a breakfast choice but they have less expensive options as well. However, I am never disappointed with the quality, consistency, flavor, service, or even the price because you get what you pay for! Bring an empty stomach.. the portions are well sized! I know they have another one in Pullman, WA which is the same in all areas. It's all family owned business too. The menus have fun facts and information about how their recipes made it on the menu which is unique. Last but not least, as with most breakfast joints, plan ahead for Sunday and Saturday mornings both places are busy! (The Pullman one is slammed on game days and parent weekends so be prepared for a wait those days!).

While traveling through Idaho for work we stumbled upon this cute little diner. I was excited for the french press coffee and the traditional Aebelskivers. The coffee did not disappoint. We ended up ordering the traditional goulash and potato pancakes, which was plenty big enough to share between my boyfriend and myself. Our server Dafni was cheerful and helpful. The potato pancakes were tasty as was the goulash. I watched what everyone else was being served and it all looked homemade and high quality. I somewhat regret not getting the stuffed French Toast. Overall, a great breakfast spot.

I really love this place. The service is always friendly, and the menu has many great options for breakfast. I've not tried the lunch menu, but my husband most recently got the Monte Cristo sandwich and liked it. On my most recent visit, I ordered the Scandinavian Cake Plate which included a German potato pancake (with applesauce), the buttermilk hot cakes, 3 Danish aebelskivers and a strawberry Swedish crepe. I also added the blackberry brandy syrup on the side. My favorite of the group was the Danish aebelskivers. They were very tasty with the bb syrup! My folks got the Austrian coffee which I tasted but I'm not a coffee fan. Was sweet with a foaming head on it. I always make a point to stop here when I'm in town and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

This is a MUST GO TO place. What an amazing place for breakfast. The food was wonderful. Very friendly and informative staff, clean, real homemade food prepared daily, fresh squeezed orange juice. They also give you complimentary items on the menu for first time guests and a $5.00 gift card for your next visit. We will be back when we are in this area. We are full time RVers.

If you are anywhere close to Post Falls this is a must stop! The food is great our server Elaine was was warm and friendly .

Family run restaurant with "old European recipes" how fun!!! Everything is fresh and takes some time but it's so worth it. Even the coffee tastes better. May I recommend the Austrian caramel or even the salted caramel. The flavored whip cream on top (with nutmeg spices) will just melt in your mouth. Our server was super friendly and very knowledgeable on the menu and products. Helped us understand just what it was we were ordering...afterall I have never had an abelskievers lol but for the record they are amazing and I will order them again. They are like balls of pancake batter stuffed with sausage and havarti cheese yuuumm! You won't want to miss out.
(5)Troy C.
This is a great place for a good breakfast (and I assume lunch or dinner) they have most of the regular American food items as well as numerous European options if you want to add something new to your breakfast dining experience.
(4)Heidi W.
Good food but not happy about waitress telling us that our Goulash comes with a side while ordering then when our bill arrived it cost extra for the side. It's overpriced for what you get.
(3)Robert B.
Why do we come here every time we are in town? Why are they popular and commonly busy? Because it's worth it. The food, the service, and the themes.
(5)Ignacio d.
Great atmosphere, great attitude, great food, great service! What else is there there to say! I think I might like the Swedish crepes better than French toast ( my life long favorite) Buckwheat pancakes a surprising new pleasure. You have to try this place
(5)Michael M.
Quaint breakfast with a menu that's fun to read with lots of stories. Portions were large and hardy. Our waiter Heather, was enthusiastic and offered good advice in what to try. She also brought us a cinnamon roll to share and at the end gave us a $5 off coupon in a cute little envelope. I had the Hungarian Goulash skillet which was huge, tasty and satisfying. It came with a selection of pan cakes, I chose the Buckwheat which was disappointing. It was dry and had the taste of a bad bran muffin. It needed some added flavors and moisture like adding in apple sauce to the mix. Other than this everything was good that our party ordered. This is the kind of place you'd want to come every week for a leisurely and filling breakfast with attentive service.

I just cant get enough of the Old European. Ive been here a half dozen times now and always leave happy and full. Its a nice, clean, and comfortable little family joint with super friendly staff that have always been great. Menu has a lot of options, but noteworthy is the Hungarian Goulash, DELICIOUS! Its a giant portion of breakfast heaven. Complimented on my last visit with a side of biscuits and gravy, that were also very good, made for an enormous breakfast that my Fiancee and I shared. Now the ebelskivers, my god you MUST have them! They're like delicious little pancake balls with either fruit or stuffed with sausage. The sausage is all I ever have and are a true fat kid's delight. The Old Euro's got a customer for life out of me long as they keep the Ebelskiver's rollin!
(5)P G.
Good quality breakfast! I wish their prices were a bit more reasonable but that will not stop me from continuing to patronize this establishment. Potato pancakes, yes please! Goulash...yum!
(4)Serena K.
Trying a new breakfast place on a Sunday is something I would not normally do but today I made an exception and am glad that I did... I had a very simple 2 egg and bacon breakfast with a side of their biscuits and gravy... Eggs were slightly undercooked but not bad, bacon was perfect and the HOMEMADE biscuits with HOMEMADE country gravy (on the side) was worth writing home about! The server, Britney, knew the menu like the back if her hand and brought out a little HOMEMADE raspberry jam:-) the man enjoyed the chicken fried steak with blueberry ableskivers (sp?) and IT WAS PHENOMENAL! All and all I would return in a heartbeat.
(4)Ray C.
Go for the pastries! The abelskivers, pancakes, & crepes are really good!! The egg dishes (I had the Hungarian goulash) are just ok. And the fresh squeezed on & lemonade are quite good.
(3)Jack P.
Stopped here on way out of town to top off a great weekend in Coeur d'Alene. Had the Hungarian Goulash Breakfast with eggs over easy and it was a delight !!! Service and ambiance was indeed Old European !!! The French Press coffee was interesting !!!
(4)Jonathan C.
Unique, delicious, excellent service!! First review but have enjoyed and highly depended on many reviews. At first glance is just seems like a typical, if very clean, breakfast joint. But the exceptional service and unique European menu was such a tasty treat :) the meat and cheese Danish Aebelskivers are fantastic!
(5)Gary G.
I love going here for breakfast. There isn't another restaurant in the area with a menu even remotely close to this. The aebleskivers are great and the potato pancakes are awesome. I often order the European cake plate, because you get a lot of variety in one meal, but it is a really big plate of food, so be hungry or get a to-go box. The orange juice is fresh squeezed, literally right in front of you. Prices lean a bit toward the high side for breakfast, but the food is so good, it's worth paying a buck or two more than you would at Denny's. Fun place to take people from out of town for a unique breakfast treat.

SCRUMPTIOUS!! Excellent customer service and abelskivers make this place a "must" when you're in the Spokane area. We live in Prosser and have family in Idaho so we always stop in. Abelskivers are a round, fluffy, pancakeish taste sensation. They come plain, or filled with havarti and sausage or just sausage and have dipping sauces. They're a little smaller (1/3) than a tennis ball and depending on your appetite, could easily satisfy 2 people as a side dish. The place was packed on a Sunday on our last visit but breakfast arrived timely and our waitress was a doll. Coffee and ice water refills were prompt and plentiful. If you like thick, crispy bacon that's tender, this is DEFinitely the place! Their hash browns are crispy, brown on top and thickly grated. Can't miss ordering off this menu and outstanding customer service from miss C!
(5)Erin S.
Another glass of OJ? That will cost you. Would you like sour cream with your potato pancakes? That will cost you. You would like to substitute eggs for hash browns? That will cost you too. I don't remember it being like this a few years ago, but It seems that everything costs you extra here now. To me this is a giant turn off, especially when the prices are a little steep to begin with compared with quality. The only thing I can recommend anymore is the potato pancakes, they're still good. I used to love the ebelskivers, but they changed their recipe. The service was okay, she kept my coffee cup full, but when I asked for a menu, I was told to just use one of my friends. Really? Apparently I was asking way too much, especially since it was busy, oh, wait.....it wasn't! With this combination I don't see myself coming for another few years because of this. There is getting to be quite a selection of good breakfast places around this area, so, if they want to compete, they'll definitely have to step it up a notch.

The people running Old European know what they are doing. I first experienced OE while a student at WSU in Pullman. It was THE breakfast place on weekends. So delicious. Always worth the wait. The fresh orange juice machine makes the best OJ. EVER. Abelskievers are delicious. The Hash, Poor Boys, Australia Coffee, are delicious. I was so happy when I moved to Spokane to find an OE on North Division. Life moved me 200 miles away from Spokane and OE. I was delighted to drive by the Post Falls, Idaho location on my way to Sandpoint. Now, it is our traditional last stop after our annual ski trip to Schweitzer Mountain. Very attentive and friendly servers. Wish every restaurant was as organized, efficient, and delicious as OE.
(5)Jennifer J.
Our daughter recommended this place when we came to visit her during the holidays. What a great place! We went twice in the 4 days we were there. I loved the potato pancakes and ableskewers (sp?). I would be as big as a house if I lived near this place. I highly recommend!!
(5)Leon N.
I had a passport card, and Old European was listed on their web site, all three locations, but when I went to pay I was informed that only the North Division store accepted the card. This after I had presented the card to the waitress before I ordered and she said they took everything except American Express (?), so she didn't even look to see what the card was. We tried the French Press coffee, but the water was only warm. So we ordered regular coffee instead and were charged for both the French Press and the regular. However, the food was tasty. The overall experience was one and done.
(1)Kelly H.
I've eaten at the OE both here in Post Falls and Spokane several times. The service is always friendly and timely; the food tasty and fulfilling. Think IHOP with a touch of historical information on the walls and menu. I like to get here later in the morning so there is no wait to be seated.
