We were visiting from Los Angeles (have friends in Spirit Lake), and found Lou's through reviews. Our experience was outstanding. Great waitresses that were very attentive, and the food was all great. We had onion rings and calimari for appetizers (top notch) and then burgers and sandwiches (recommend Salmon BLT!) and soup (tomato basil was very good). Everybody got exactly what they asked for, drinks were refilled regularly and everybody left very full. Good stuff!

My friend and I were driving through Ponderay from a ski trip and decided to stay at the Holiday Inn Express next to Sweet Lou's. Instead of venturing into Sandpoint we decided to walk next door for dinner and what a pleasant surprise! Elizabeth our server was delightful, helpful and delivered our meal with a warm smile :) I was torn about what to order so she recommended the chicken fried steak and even let me taste the horseradish mashed potatoes, which afterwards I happily ordered. I must tell you that was the BEST chicken fried steak with country gravy I've ever had and I'm from Texas!!! It wasn't your typical deep fried salisbury steak, it was a real top sirloin pounded tender, lightly breaded, seasoned and fried to perfection. It practically melted in my mouth. I dreamt of that meal last night, and am now waiting for Sweet Lou's to open for lunch we can go there again before we hit the road! My friend ordered a thick ribeye steak cooked to a juicy medium rare, with spicy slaw and clam chowder. The seasoning complimented the meat so well, adding steak sauce would have been an insult! I would whole heartedly recommend Sweet Lou's to anyone that has the good fortune to come through Ponderay. What a hidden jewel.. Thanks again Elizabeth!!!

Great food and great service! We had the Pend Oreille Plate to start and it was phenomenal. My lovely wife thoroughly enjoyed the Mediterranean Mac 'n' Cheese, while I had a fantastic burger with everything on it (including avocado slices and a fried egg)!

Ponderay was our first stop on a three-week road trip. Sweet Lou's happened to be next door to our motel - how convenient! The Seahawks were playing the 49'ers on Sunday night, so the game was on many, many screens. I ordered the chicken fried steak which was quite tasty; the mashed potatoes and Caesar salad were good; the Kootenai River Brewing Co. porter was outstanding; service was excellent. An all-around great find.

Good food and fantastic service. The waitress talked to us about their other location at Hope lake and had a conversation with us about the Georgetown Brewery's which is back in my hometown Seattle. The food was good for the price. I got the grilled cheese for grownups which was $10. It was tasty and with lots of cheese.

After a long drive from Canada we stoped by this place. What a pleasant suprise. My wife had the Chicken fried steak. She is a texas girl and thought she knew what she was talking about. She didn't. Best steak ever she proclaimed. I had the Cod. Being Danish I know cod, and the guy in the back just nailed the cooking of the fish. Flaky as it should be, with just enough resistance in the flakes. Horseradish mash was the crowning of the dish.

Friendly small-town atmosphere with clean Country decor. Grow up grilled cheese sandwiches were hearty, gooey-melty satisfying along with the featured soup - a rich onion- tomato soup spiked with Tabasco and good for dipping that crunchy toasted sandwich. Washed down with refreshing huckleberry lemonade and accompanied by their homemade potato chips ( we are in Idaho after all)-- a satisfying and enjoyable way to end a day of gaping at truly magnificent lake and mountain scenery .

What happened to the quality and service? We used to eat here at least once a week whether it be dinner, lunch or just appetizers. I loved the mussels my husband the nachos. I am not sure when they stopped caring about what they are serving. This review is the product of 5 bad experiences in a row. When did it become okay to serve a plate of mussels that only 1/2 have opened and tell the customer, "That's just how it is. Sometimes they open sometimes they don't". The chef should've removed the unopened ones from the plate and the waitress should've looked at the plate before she served it. We have had this waitress a few times and she is never nice. We have made a group decision and won't be going back.

Tons of TVs and sound control boxes. Fun game day atmosphere. Well staffed. Full bar with Small special drink menu. Okay food, nothing spectacular but some good choices. Veggie burger is good and they now have gluten free buns!

Order the chicken fried steak it was fantastic. The honey mustard dressing for the dinner salad was also homemade. Skip the huckleberry cobbler as it is Microwaved and not fresh. Also skip the crab macaroni and cheese.

The Western Burger ... a great combination of pulled pork AND a hamburger, along with onion rings (somewhat soggy though) on top. Interesting buns ... not sure what they were made of but they were good. Loved the fries and fry sauce too. Only one waitress at lunch time ... seemed to take a little time to get to me, but efficient otherwise.

I rarely leave bad reviews. But I was very disappointed. The food was not good, Infact my husbands ribs were so burnt they were in eatable. We sent them back. My salad was typical, nothing special. My entree was the new crab Mac and cheese. It was very disappointing. Sauce was bland and super thin. The waitstaff was great and I left a good tip. I know from working in the industry that it's not their fault for bad food. I would never go back.

I have eaten several times at Sweet Lou's, since I moved to NW Montana. Not once have I been served anything but excellently seasoned prepared succulent meats, seafoods, awesome side dishes and appetizers. The service is on the spot and friendly, and even though they must see hundreds of customers a week, the waitresses who have served us, usually remember us and greet us with smiles and ask how we have been, they even inquire about the little ones if we show up without them. Thank you Sweet Lou's for relaxing and wonderful visits.

Drinks: good Grilled Cheese Sandwich: Excellent Cobb Salad: Terrible! They used week old wilted lettuce! It was mentioned to the waitress and we were still charged full price. So if you go here and order a salad beware.

This was my third visit to this establishment. Every time I have been here the food and service have been excellent. This visit was no different. At our table we had the fish and chips, meatball sub, cheeseburger with subbed blue cheese, and adult grilled cheese. Every one of these were excellent. Service was solid with the waitress even bringing an extra glass of ice due to the freshly brewed iced tea. Any time that we happen to be rolling through Sandpoint we will vertainly be making an excuse to stop by again. Yes, it's that good.

Maybe I am a little biased towards this place, but I have to say, the food is truly amazing. The wife and I had the Adult Grilled Cheese and what can I say, it was an experience all in itself. The wait staff is friendly, its in a convenient location and the atmosphere is fun and casual. If you're in the area and need a place to eat, you really don't have any other options if you want good food!

Slow service - Dirty dishware - Lying staff The slow service was immediate from the moment we walked in and waited to be seated. A couple in front of us who were also waiting to be seated commented "Do we have to scream and shout to be seated?" This wasn't a big deal, it was lunch time after all. After being seated and ordering drinks (soda, tea, and coffee), it took a long time to get them. They arrived finally, but the coffee was not accompanied by sugar and cream. I drank my coffee anyway because it was starting to get cold (yeah, first world problems). The food order was later put in and sugar and cream had to be requested at this time but didn't arrive until the food was brought to the table. The food was ok, nothing special. I finished my coffee and was unpleasantly surprised to find a lemon seed on the bottom of my coffee cup. Once the waitress arrived to give us our checks I asked about the lemon seed and she relied "your guess is as good mine" and offered to take off the price of the coffee from my check. I paid for the meal but she brought back my check without taking out the price of the coffee. Won't go there again. Bad vibes from staff. Poor service. Food wasn't worth the price.

What's better than grabbing a burger after skiing? By the way - Fries are delicious. Burger (Western burger) is topped with fried onion and pulled pork. It's the bomb. Their tartar sauce is also great if you're into that. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. Pleasant, and has a mixed crowd. They have a bar as well and plenty of TVs for sports. The staff are friendly and the restaurant is clean. Overall, will come back when I'm in Idaho!
