Pretty good as far as salad buffets go. The usual salad selection as well as some premise pasta and misc salad which were good. The bread was good, too (mmm, carbs..) and there were baked potatoes, a taco bar, as well as a pasta and sauce station. I would visit this place again for lunch. I was bummed that there weren't any more high chairs so my son had to sit in my lap. All in all the place is "good", not great or stellar or even bad. It's slightly above average and just good.

So as I mentioned in a previous review, the "all you can eat" buffet is a guilty pleasure. We try to fight it, we try to deny it, but every now and then it is just irresistible. It can be even more irresistible when we are tricked into thinking it is more healthy than the usual buffet. Enter Souper Salad. You won't find piles of fried chicken and french fries here. Instead they focus almost solely on................. soups and salads, as the name would imply. But does that mean you'll walk away feeling any better about yourself afterwards? More than likely not. The bottom line is Souper Salad pretty much fails to impress. It does live up to its namesake well enough, but the offerings are distinctly bland and unimpressive. In terms of salad, you have a selection of greens to build on, along with a wide variety of toppings and dressings. In addition they have a selection of other cold salads like potato salad, pasta salad, seafood salad, etc. It is an impressive selection but................... it really isn't any wider or better than the salad bars at any other conventional buffet restaurant like Golden Corral or Chuck-A-Rama. They also offer special seasonal salads that rotate, but again, so do other buffets. For a restaurant that wants to focus solely on salads as its focus, I would expect something more impressive in this regard and it just.............. isn't. In addition to the salads they do offer pizza, pasta, and baked potatoes. And for an additional fee, you can get grilled chicken to add to your salad. Once again this is no different than what a larger buffet can offer you, and without the added cost for the "extra" protein. The food itself simply isn't that good. I was not impressed with any of the hot food at all. The soups, pasta, etc. were all decidedly bland. Again I understand that a buffet is never going to offer the highest quality food no matter what, but basic seasoning is somewhat fundamental and to me it is a reasonable expectation at even the simplest of restaurants. The bottom line is that there isn't anything that Souper Salad does that another full-service buffet doesn't do better. The only reason I can think of to go to Souper Salad specifically would be if ALL you want is a ton of salad and don't want to be "tempted" by the broader options at other buffets. But even if that is the case, if it is salad that you are really craving... I would say go to a quick service deli or casual restaurant that could prepare one of much higher quality than Souper Salad could give you. Overall this place is just very hard to recommend.

This place is pretty good for the price. I went for lunch on Thursday and saw lots of senior citizens there. This could be the reason I felt many things were under seasoned or not seasoned at all. On the good side, great breadsticks and soups. Super thin crust pizza was great. Salad bar had lots of options and some I haven't seen at other local salad bars. Taco and spaghetti bar looked appetizing but I was too full and needed room for dessert. Strawberry shortcake was pretty good. Little brownies lacked sugar and ice cream tasted icy not creamy. Overall it was decent for around $20 for 2 people but I'll bypass this place in the future...or at least till I can get the senior discount.

This is not the kind of place I would normally go, simply because I don't like all-you-can-eat style and I don't like the cafeteria like atmosphere. However, I was with a colleague and this is where he wanted to go so I was game to give it a try. We got there slightly early for lunch so almost no one was seated and eating when we arrived. The hostess got us started and seemed pleasant enough. There is not much to say about the salad bar. Typical salad offerings, plus toppings, and things like cottage cheese, pasta and potato salads, etc. It looked quite clean, but again, we were one of the first people in there for lunch. Also, everything looked fresh and the items that were supposed to be kept cold were cold. The hostess came by after we had started eating and made sure we could find everything. She also took our used plates away and came by at least twice during our meal. Good service for what I was expecting and once again, she was very pleasant. I tried the bow tie pasta with sun dried tomato and it was surprisingly good. So was the potato salad. Also tried the beef noodle soup which was also quite tasty, but on the salty side and not quite as hot as I would have liked. I tried the cornbread but did not end up tasting it because it was cold (like they recently took it out of a refrigerator or even the freezer). The salad is, well... it's just a salad. Don't expect anything more. I was surprised that they also had baked potatoes and tacos here as well. I did not try them. They also have the desert stuff. I had a small soft serve ice cream and it was as expected. So still not a place I would frequent very often but it is inexpensive and you can certainly get your money's worth if this is the kind of lunch you are looking for. Souper Salad is definitely not a high end soup and salad place but it is less expensive than the fancy alternatives, so I guess it all evens out.

I really like coming here! They are always so friendly, helpful, and CLEAN! The staff are usually busy making sure everything stays as fresh and warm/cold as they can. Their soups are pretty great! Food is nothing to rave about, if you want great food, I wouldn't choose a buffet to begin with...

We saw a kid on the side of the road with a sign Souper Salad. It's been along time since we have been to a good place for soup & salad. Well I guess we will still have to keep on looking. The price was 13.84 with senior discount, 2 ice teas for 3.98. Total with tax was $18.47. This was a all you can eat buffet. The place was clean and bright. The selection of salad and soup was very limited. The soup I tried was watered down and was bland. My wife liked what she selected. They had a toco bar but the meat was grease. I think I will pass on returning.

Good service, good pricing, friendly staff, food is good. I have no complaints and everything was fresh. It's a buffet, you know your not gonna get 5 star zagat rated steak, swordfish, or lobster. If I had to complain about anything it would be the desert area where it was a lil messy with colored sprinkles everywhere, but we already know every 5 seconds a kid is gonna make a mess so I'm letting it slide. I enjoyed it and would go back.

I was out in Meridian one Saturday when, between my son's basketball games, we went looking for lunch. At the behest of my mother, we wound up here. First, let me say, it's a buffet. Buffets are generally not my cup of tea. So, they had an immediate strike against them (I appreciate that some love the buffet type meal--just not my thing). This, however, is not your typical buffet. Instead of oodles of mac & cheese spilling into jello salad and the ham carving station, they have exclusively soups and salad (well, and baked potatoes if you so desire--which I did). The salad fixings were surprisingly fresh and varied. I didn't have any soup, so I cannot comment on that. I did have a baked potato, which was fine--but, it's a baked potato, kinda hard to get that one wrong. The place was clean and well organized, and, to top it off, very reasonable (less than ten bucks/person for all you can eat). A word of warning: we came right before the lunch rush and easily found a table; however, as we were leaving the line of people waiting for a table was stretching well outside the door. Bottom line: If you're in the mood for salad and don't mind a buffet--they have it for you, fresh, and reasonably priced.

I've eaten there many times. Today, well I'll think again before going. I just sent this to their corporate via their own website: "I received an email and coupon for the Labor Day Weekend from your Souper Fresh Club. I've received these many times in the past and have enjoyed the coupons they often provide. This time. however, the only store in Idaho refused to honor it. Two complaints here. 1) while it is true the fine print said not valid in Boise, the only store in Idaho is in Meridian not Boise. That's misleading! and, 2) your third-party email marketing firm, Fishbowl.com ( fbmta.com ) offers email marketing based on a number of criteria in your mailing list. You could have easily not sent this email to those registered in my zip code - for that matter, any Idaho zip code (83XXX) - that's also misleading. Lastly, regarding the store itself. I've eaten there many times and always had good service. Today, they had more business than usual and the only employee I saw was the manager/co-owner who took the stack of dirty plates that had accumulated. I never saw a server. Poor service is the understatement for today's visit. We did see the manager/co-owner and she was pleasant and did take the dirty dishes."

Was used to Souplantation in CA. This is not that great place but pretty good though. The servers are new almost every time, that I don't like. That tells me the pay and/or tips are lousy. Food is usually fresh and yummy, soups are tasty with at least four to five kinds out. I do wish they would have at least one always be a veggie option.

There was a hair in my salad. I know they were busy but the salad bar was bare and messy. The food quality was poor and not much variety. All in all it was a bad idea for dinner :( I just left feeling ill even after only a few small portions of salad, Mac and cheese, and fruit.

A perfectly acceptable chain soup-and-salad bar, surprisingly the only one of its kind in the valley we have so far. Like Ophelia, I'm not a buffet person either, but I did enjoy going to soup-and-salad bars like Souplantation and Fresh Choice from time to time when I lived in areas that had them. My overall memories of each of those places do trump Souper Salad, but that's not a huge knock. It is kept very clean (impressive given the circumstances), and there always seems to be an employee hovering around the options to make sure they stay well-stocked. The soups have tasted better than I thought, though the options have been on the standard and predictable side. Stuff I gave a thumbs down on there would be their rather bland and cheap prepared salads (I've had a Crab Louie salad with fake crab and pea-sized shrimp, and some sort of "spicy" jalapeno salad with jalapenos that seemed to have been neutered from having either taste or heat), mac and cheese (a bland gooey mess), lasagna (cheap and falls apart easily), and pizza (though the pizzas always suck at places like this). The four alarm chili is more like one alarm-- I wonder if it's like that at all of their locations or if they purposely level down the heat in a spice-phobic area like Boise. But with the exception of the mac and cheese and the pizza, these things get rotated in and out and aren't always available. There's a coupon available on their website that reduces the price for going. It's also reduced on Tuesdays for the whole day. If the prepared salads were tastier and more creative, I'd be tempted to go there on a more regular basis despite it being a bit out-of-the-way for me.

Salad bars are definitely lacking in this town. Enter Souper Salad - a great, HEALTHY option - I'm glad they've survived so far! The name says it all - the focus here is on salads and soups, and they do a great job of it. Lots of veggies, fruits & proteins, and a variety of pre-made pasta salads. There are always 5-6 soups on hand (including vegetarian and vegan options), and fresh bread. There is also a smaller taco, baked potato, and pasta bar (I've never tried any of it - it looks like a lot of processed crap). It is a little spendy, in my opinion - if we both order sodas, it's a little over $20. Subtract $5 if you drink water. Love this place - wish they'd build something similar in E. Boise so we could visit more often.

This is a great place for a salad bar. Great selection of items. Their soups are great. There are times that you just want a salad and this is the place for those times. They also have pasta and bread but those are average. I try to lunch here when I'm in this part of town.

We went to this place last weekend and I fell in love. I am a big salad bar fan so this was heaven. They also had soup of course and a few other goodies like bread, chili, nachos, spaghetti, and ice cream. We used a coupon but it is very reasonably priced at $6-7 per person before a drink. Its a long drive from our house in Boise but we will definitely make a trip over there again!

My boyfriend and I love this place! It is very inexpensive and clean. The salad bar has pretty much everything you can imagine to put on your salad. The side dishes, hot dishes, and soups are OK too, but simple. Overall, if you want a couple of plates of delicious salad, this is the place.

It was hard to find anything that was edible. The kids had fun though. Understandable since the food was about on par with the school cafeteria. How do you make salad and soup bad?!? I would not recommend.
(1)Shrief E.
It is really good! I just went there for the first time last night and was a little skeptical. But I would definitely go back!

They have brownies now !! Just what I wanted a chocolate dessert option . I spoke and you heard! Good going souper salad ,
(5)Gary G.
Have been there twice recently. Good selection. Ice cream dispenser has been broken on both trips which is part of the experience. No discount offered when this happens
(3)Cara C.
Great place to go for lunch! The food was good and they had a nice selection. Potatoes Mac and cheese yum
(4)Jeff E.
Really inexpensive considering all of the options. Some of the salads and pastas were not of my taste so that's why I rate 4 stars. Don't forget the tacos and baked potatoes

As a first time visitor I found my experience a little bit confusing. When I first walked in at 1pm on a Friday, no employees were to be seen. Customers were at tables and in the buffet line. I noticed a female employee at the back of the room. I asked her how the process works here and she told me she didn't speak English. A customer told me you serve yourself. but be sure to use a new plate each time. When I finished selecting items from the buffet, I noticed an employee had returned to her greeting/cashier station. I explained my confusion and paid for my meal. That was the only employee interaction I had this whole dining experience. Good food, but odd service for a first visit.

Not sure why everyone had such high praise for such a mediocre buffet style restaurant. Everything we tried was stale and had little flavor. I also felt ill for hours after eating here. Not suggested...

I went with the family on a weeknight; had a coupon for ~$6/ea. We are used to Souplantation in SoCal. Overall...very friendly and efficient service, clean, decent quality. Soup selection was a little sparse, salad bar was smallish, but had everything we wanted. Nice treats: Strawberry shortcake makings, gingersnaps, taco bar. Wish they had: Clam chowder, sourdough. We will definitely be back. Good reasonably priced eats.Friendly staff who hustled, as well!
