What a great new business to the Boise valley. I am always looking for new dining choices that are on the lighter side and this seems to be a great one. I tend to only pick salads when dining out. Rumbies has many to select from. Thanks to the great service from the Rumbie staff, especially Sam B, I have always had a great meal. She has lead me to a favorite salad choice of hers when I have visited the restaurant and I have loved it each time. Thanks Rumbies and Sam B! I will certainly chose you on a return visit.

I had a Fire Island Noodle Bowl. The flavors were very savory with a nice amount of sweet to counter-balance. The noodles were overcooked and forgot to top it with a fresh lime wedge (as pictured and described in the menu) but I took the dish to go and the noodles would have been better had I eaten them there. Overall it was a delicious dish and made me not want to put my fork down. I'll be back!

The review I had given previously for Rumba Island Grill was removed, evidently because I did not give enough detail. My wife and ate lunch here for our first time and we were both very disappointed. She had a rice bowl, which she found to be unappetizing. The meat was not fresh, but was something that had been frozen and then heated up. I had the fish tacos, which were very watery. There was probably about 1/4 cup of fluid that drained out when I tried eating them. This water, or whatever it was, flooded all over my plate. The rice was very bland. We even had a $5 off coupon which we got for signing up on their web site and still the lunch bill for 2 with drinks was $17 and we could not eat most of our meal. Certainly can find better food for our money somewhere else.

Great place to eat! Never had anything that was not DELISH! Service has always been great!!! Love this place!!
(5)Doug T.
Interesting food.. It's really not Hawaiian vs Caribbean.. no spam, no saimen etc.
(2)Johnnie M.
Delicious! Everything has been very tasty here. I usually stick to the tacos though. One thing I always do is ask for an extra side of the aioli sauce to add to my rice because it's a little dry and that sauce is awesome!
(4)Royanna C.
I'm a big fan of fish tacos - and Rumbi's Cabo Fish Tacos are always great. Was glad to find a Rumbi on my travels to ID this week. Dare I say, I think these are better than our Rumbi back home in AZ??!
(4)Ryan C.
Wow, this was the best restaurant food I've had in a long time. The employees were very polite and we got our food fast. I got a rice bowl with no zucchini, luau pork, the regular teriyaki sauce, and brown rice. It tasted not to salty and tasted genuinely from the tropics. I would strongly recommend you eat here.
(5)Amanda B.
Very very impressed. We were walking contemplating stopping in for lunch and the guy cleaning the floor mats (had no idea it was the owner) told us to come in and get a buy one get one for being first timers. He didn't have to give us a special discount but it was very cool. He told us what to order and while we were eating he brought us some fresh sweet potato fries. The food was great and fresh. All of the veggies had color. Seeing the owner cleaning the mats instead of an employee says a lot about a business and they now have ours. Thanks Rumbi!
(5)April N.
It seems most of their menu items are frozen and then thawed to be served to customers. I doubt anything was fresh except the salad items. Just not very impressive fare. The customer service was good, but the food was not worth returning for.
(2)Sean W.
Caribbean chicken and shrimp w Caesar salad I could eat every day! It is a party of flavored in your mouth! My daughter dreams of the chocolate lava cake.
(4)Sarah K.
Pretty good (and fresh) lunch spot for Boise. Is it going to win awards? No. But it's a great bowl of food when you are looking for lunch - and it's a nice change from Subway! The lunch bowls come in two sizes, and be warned - the large is large! Unless you have a massive appetite, I'd order the smaller one. The restaurant is clean, the people are nice, and the food seemed fresh. I'll be back!
(4)Danica W.
I love this place! We found it one night in Phoenix and I was super excited when I heard that they had put one here in Meridian. It's definitely a pricier lunch, but well worth it. I've always ordered the half bowl and I usually have left overs. Think of Mongolian, but with rice instead of noodles and more tropical/Hawaiian flavors than straight up Asian flavors. They do have the noodle option with your bowl, which I'll try out next time. They also have burgers, tacos and salads too, however I've only had the rice bowls. Staff is really friendly (sometimes over the top as Christy M said), and the food tastes excellent.
(5)Candace M.
We visited yesterday with a livingsocial deal and it was amazing! The service was excellent, and we got a ton of food for two people for $16.80. The Rumbi fries and Rumbi rice were really good. Next time I'm getting the pulled pork bowl, it is the best entree meat.
(5)Matthew R.
One of very few places with healthy, tasty fast food. I like the rice bowl (with brown rice), though pricy without a coupon.
(4)Beth S.
Great lunch spot, loved the fish tacos and yummy tasting coconut rumbi rice.
(4)Patty P.
If you haven't been here yet, then it is MUST!!! The food is delicious! I had the pulled pork with rice, with a side of coleslaw and mac salad, everything on my plate was absolutely yummy! My boyfriend had the kahuna burger which was good also. I'm pretty sure everything on the menu is tasty! Definitely will be going back soon. I do wish there were more locations, like maybe in Nampa! It would be a perfect place to grab lunch or quick dinner. The restaurant was nice and clean with plenty of friendly staff on hand, ready to help you.

This restaurant is one of many that tend to follow a pattern: Add sugar to a bunch of meat, add a ton of carbs and a few vegetables and voila authentic (insert ethnicity here) cuisine. Rumbi is yet another chain that in many ways is matches Costa Vida, Cafe Rio, etc... The formula is the same. Sweet pork, teriyaki chicken, honey orange mixed with rice. Add a small amount of veggies. Load a plate with enough rice to feed a small Vietnamese family and your have "authentic" island food. The sauces taste like they came from gallon plastic jugs. The meat tastes like it was emptied from food service bags. The seasoning is just enough as to not offend the American palate. This is massed produced sugar meat with basic roughage and rice. When are Idahoans going to stop paying into the pork swill franchises with their predictable menus and support real restaurateurs? When we do, we'll see more places like Kahootz in Meridian.

Cindi and I were hoping for something as good as the islandnoodles.com we get at the McCall Winter Carnival. While Cindi enjoyed her barbecue chicken salad, my beef and chicken noodles with spicy teriyaki sauce did not live up to my expectations, especially given the nearly $9 price tag. Neither the noodles nor vegetables had the seared smokey flavor I expect in a wok-cooked meal -- they tasted more like they were boiled or steamed. And while the sauce was good, I had to ask for two extra portions, and even then it was lost in the watery broth that filled half the bowl.
(3)P B.
Rice bowls are big and flavorful. Fun place for lunch or dinner with the family.
(4)Chelsea B.
I have been here twice and both times the food was yummy and the employees were super sweet. My first visit was just minutes before closing and I didn't realize it. We ordered and then were given a heads-up. We felt so bad but she was really cool about it. She let us eat, didnt make us feel rushed at all. The quality of food and service did not suffer even though we were there right at closing time!
(5)Sam W.
The food is priced for medium/high end. Their Kahuna burger and a small drink was $10.54 with tax. For that price, I expected hand made patties. What I received were those machine pressed and then frozen patties that I'm not a fan of. They remind me of when someone barbecues and they are using the same package of frozen patties they bought at Costco three years ago. The staff is friendly and the layout is decent. They have only a single station for napkins, drinks, and condiments though. I was always in someone's way when I was trying to pick up items from this station. The marketing gimmick is fun: "Go tribal. Eat tropic." Too bad eating tropic means eating not so good food that costs a lot, in this case. I would try this place again, only if I heard they were making better food. I would not recommend this eatery as it is; at least not their burgers.
(2)Maureen K.
Been here several times and never disappointed. Join the free "Club Rumbi" and you get great deals via email (they also send frequent coupons in regular mail). Have had the rice bowls, the salads, fish tacos, and Island chicken sandwich. Everything is so fresh! Service to your table or takeout is fast, as well. A real plus is they have "to go" containers in the area with napkins and plasticware. I wish more places did that. About a third of the time I can't finish my meal and it's so convenient to grab a box and not bother a busy employee. Brilliantly simple!
(5)Verdeana G.
Double check your food before eating... Found a long hair in it! Manager handled situation properly... But so grossed out. Don't think I can ever eat there again!
(1)Caroline T.
Oh man this place is one of my staple lunch spots! Food is outstanding and always fresh, paired with any of their delicious sauces. I usually order the chicken rice bowl with the Bali sauce. The restaurant is always clean and the service prompt and friendly. If you're looking for traditional island or Hawaiian food, I can't say this is it, but don't let that deter you. Rumbi has me returning frequently for amazing food! Another perk is their email club which sends out bogo coupons monthly along with other deals.
(5)Darren G.
Food is fresh and good tasting. Really like the salads and tacos. I would like to try more items but afraid to go too far astray from the salads
(4)Akiliano K.
I had just arrived in boise and my friend was raving about this new place they had found to eat so we headed off to rumbi island grill. When we arrived we where sat very quickly as the place was empty. Well, it's not as impressed as the other reviewers say. The brown gravy has no flavor. Perhaps it was from a package and way too salty. The meats were ok. The Haole rice is offered here. Do you know what I am talking about? It's rice and coconut. Yuk!
(2)Ryan G.
The service was excellent with very friendly staff. We went on a whim on a Tuesday, which was apparently "kids eat free day", so that was a nice bonus. My wife and I both had chicken rice bowls with spicy teriyaki. It was super delicious and the serving size was great for the price (especially since drinks were included with the rice bowls at no extra charge). My wife had a Caesar side salad too and said she really enjoyed it.
(5)Zach P.
We eat here once a month or so. The food is good and the price is fair. There's nothing spectacular about it but it's usually a solid place to go if you want take out
(4)Christie Ly G.
Rumbi; your burger and sweet potatoes fries are the BoMB! Better than THE Counter ANY DAY of the week.
(5)Alan Y.
Overall: I was pretty impressed overall with this restaurant the food was good friendly service and lots to choose from on the menu The Food: I order the volcano-blackend fish which was incredible in terms of taste. the salmon was cooked perfectly and was very clean with that comes an order of fried rice which I really liked because it is very different then anything that I have ever taste it has beans in it which set it over the edge and the caesar salad is awesome also. I have been coming to this restaurant for a long time now and my favorite part about it is that everything they serve has a very unique taste. The Service: I have never had a bad experience with the service here i very much appreciate the awesome help that i get from them and they are so dang nice. Perfect. The Price: Other then the great food and great service the price is just a little bit steep at $12 which it should be more like a $9 or $10 meal. with that i am very happy with this place overall.
(4)Servanda F.
My boyfriend and I love this place. The first time we went, I had the fish tacos, and that's the only thing we've ordered since. They are sooooo good. It's cozy, but spacious. If you don't know what to try, get the fish tacos, eat them over the coconut rice so that the juice drips into it, then eat the rice. Delicious. This is our 'fish taco place,' and we will be buying many many more.
(5)Ken W.
Been coming here for awhile now. Love the freshness of the food. Haven't tried one thing that I have not liked. Big fan of the rumbi rice. The service is always great. The food is always good. Nice that you can also call your orders in and pick them up
(5)Kathy L.
I absolutely love the Voodoo salad. When I lived in Arizona I frequented that Rumbi Island Grill there so when I moved back to Idaho there wasnt one and I was sad. Then about 2 years ago the Rumbi Grill came here. I must say I was overjoyed. I have gone to this particular location several times and ordered the Voodoo salad each time. I'm not one to try new things once I have found something I like. The prices are a little spendy but the food is so wonderful. I like to take a friend with me when I go.
(4)Malu M.
Not a bad little lunch place we have gone a few times now. I like it because I can get my veggies on the side though we found out to ask for hubby's on the side also or the mess it up. Kind of pricy but you get a lot of food. The rice bowl is nice because you can get a good choice if meats.

Well, if you don't like chain restaurants on principal, safe to say you shouldn't be eating here (in which case, why are you reviewing it). However, if you want a place with a mixture of fresh and healthy foods, like customizable rice bowls, in a fast, casual dining environment, this place is a winner. I liked the chicken tortilla soup, which is done up with coconut milk, but could have been a little hotter. The rice dishes are tasty. We order six entrees total and none were disappointing.
(3)Sam H.
Great place for "real" food, Hawaiian style :) Not true Hawaiian, IMHO (I'm a Honolulu native), but really tasty "fusion" style tropical food. I recommend the luau pork bowl with teriyaki sauce - perfect. Get the full size bowl and save half for tomorrow's lunch. Also, they do a lot of BOGO coupons, so keep your eyes open.
(5)Amber H.
Super friendly staff always ready to help with a smile. I had the chicken and shrimp over noodles, was so good! And the sweet potato fries were yummy. I also suggest the mango salsa.
(4)Jason L.
This place surprised me. For a fast foody looking place it was fresh, friendly and delicious. Healthy options such as brown rice and sweet potatoes, plus grilled meats instead if fried. Taste was unique, unlike a typical burrito or hamburger joint, and very large portions. In fact you are better off splitting a full order bowl with someone or packing half for takeaway. It's a little more than you'd spend for a Subway or something, but your getting a LOT of food. Try the jerk chicken bowl with Rumbi rice, its delicious.
(5)Virginia B.
Nothing to write home about... it was basically a very expensive bowl of rice. The amount of meat included was a joke. We won't be returning even though the rumbi rice was decent tasting.
(2)Kent G.
My wife and I eat here often. Fresh, "clean" and healthy besides being GREAT tasting. Would recommend it to anyone. Great value for the dollar as well.
(4)Hamza I.
I heard about Rumbi a couple of months ago and finally had a chance to make it in. As i walked in I was warmly welcomed by the ambitious staff. The beautiful blue-eyed worker (Sallyann I believe) recommended an organic tofu bowl with bali flavor and a mix of rumbi rice and brown rice. I was astonished at this delicacy. The bali sauce had added a wonderful touch of peanut flavoring to my bowl. MMMM DELICIOUS! Not only was the food great, the staff was so accommodating. Sallyann brought me out some chips and salsa along with some of rumbi's hot teriyaki sauce. This added the perfect amount of flavor to my meal. I was quite happy with not only the food quality, but also the warm-hearted staff. Thank you so much Rumbi's for the great dinner. and thank you Sallyann for your great recommendations. I will most definitely be back with friends.

Nothing to write home about... it was basically a very expensive bowl of rice. The amount of meat included was a joke. We won't be returning even though the rumbi rice was decent tasting.

My wife and I eat here often. Fresh, "clean" and healthy besides being GREAT tasting. Would recommend it to anyone. Great value for the dollar as well.
