We stopped in on our date night for a martini & bowl of mussels....and to watch the sunset at 9:30pm. What a special moment!!! Drinks food and atmosphere were all on point. Our server Jessie was an absolute doll. She could not have been more friendly & even brought out more bread for the last of the broth. Yummmmmmmmy!!!!

This place is quirky. The service is slow and the menu needs to be updated. The dining area has been updated and is quite lovely. The food is not particularly bad despite needing an update - and there are certain things that are awesome. Hard to classify - a little past its time but could easily come back around with a change in management and some help on the menu.

Disappointed in the service-waiter was not over taxed with customers. 20%discount on HH-they could do better considering what they charge and the SLOW service . Hope dinner on the patio Is step up.

We had a party of 15, and the view of the lake was terrific. However, that's the only positive of our experience. Our waitress was asked at least three times to identify the soup of the day, and to replace some missing silverware. She totally forgot two of the orders, and the correct replacements didn't come until everyone else had finished their meal. One person ordered a smoothie, and when it didn't arrive for some time, she said 'it was sheer chaos in the kitchen, and we would get it when we got it'. My salmon was dry and had a bland taste; others complained about the blandness of their meals as well. And then to top all, a 20% gratuity was included in the invoice - for the first time ever I considered putting in a 'negative tip.' The view was great, but the food and service were anything but. We found three other places to eat in Mccall - much better options.

We had a great meal here, I can vouch for the filet mignon and lobster fettuccini. The view overlooking the lake is wonderful. A good place for a special date.

We've had a place in McCall for about 10 years and have never had a meal at The Narrows. This Sunday we showed up at about 6pm with no reservation and were seated at a lake view table. There may have been two other couples in the restaurant during our entire meal. Service was excellent. We started with cocktails and ended up sipping them thru dinner, skipping on the wine. I had a gin martini, my wife a manhattan. Both were strong and well prepared. We both started with foie gras and shared a 3 cheese plate. The foie was good, but was a fairly thin cut so it was a bit over done for me. The cheese plate was huge with apple, strawberry, crackers, etc. a serious amount of food. We kept it on the table and picked at it throughout the meal. I only eat red meat about once a month, so I try to save it for a nice meal. I ordered the mixed grill which included rabbit, duck and a veal chop. My wife ordered the elk chop with risotto. We ordered the chops medium rare and each sampled a bit of everything. The presentation was very nice. Food temperature was perfect, but just about everything we ordered was under seasoned. I eat a fairly low sodium diet, so I keep the salt at a minimum, but I had to pick up a salt shaker for the first time in years. Other than that, the favors combinations of the entrees and sides, as well as the sauces were spot on. And I must re-emphasize that our service was excellent. The experience was very enjoyable and the price point wasn't bad for the quality and portion size.

We are in McCall for two weeks every year - and every year we look forward to a couple of very nice dinners at the Narrows at Shore Lodge. In 2013 I think the chef changed. We were at dinner on a Thursday night... the waitstaff as always was 5 stars (service at Shore Lodge is stellar), but the food was unfortunately awful this time around. The menu seems to be much smaller, lots more steak offerings, and less local items (ie. no buffalo (which interestingly is offered in both the bar and the outdoor grill), no lamb, no pork, no duck). In addition, there were no specials offered. We started with the beet tarte tatin ... which was the only awesome thing that we had! It was light, fresh, creative and well prepared. The amuse bouche was a shrimp with pineapple salsa... eh. The shrimp was slightly overcooked and the salsa was not one-way or the-other. Then we had the Duo of Quail and the Idaho Trout... both of which were pretty bad. The fish was extremely dry and fishy, arrived at the table covered with a potato pancake (not in the menu description which had detailed spinach, a tomato salsa, and fingerling potatoes)... all I can think is that the fish was a mess on the plate so they threw on the "potato pancake"? The duo of quail was also on a potato pancake, had some pearl onions (in a very loose sense of the word) and some bacon (again the some part is used loosely... very little in evidence and somewhat anemic). The quail was stuffed with a chorizo and rice that was so salty it was almost inedible. The view at the Narrows is incredible. Again the staff was very friendly and polite. The food unfortunately the night we were there was horrible. As a side note, we also ate outside one night on the patio - and although the "ceviche" was kind of sub-par the buffalo pasta was very nice as were the rolls. Hopefully we were just there on an off night, but it is a little scary that The Narrows is headed in the wrong direction.

We are on vacation, passing through and spending several nights in McCall. We are not staying at the Shore Lodge, but were looking for a nice place for dinner. We had made reservations and were given seats by the windows overlooking the lake. Our waiter and assistant waiter were both pleasant, friendly, and helpful, although the waiter did get busy as the evening progressed. Both of us ordered the Prix Fixe Menu and were very happy with it. We started with an heirloom tomato salad, with fresh mozzarella, arugula, basil, and balsamic vinaigrette. The entree was a thick halibut steak on a bed of saffron risotto, with a basil cream sauce. Dessert was a lavender panna cotta with fresh blueberries. We ordered a Rombauer Chardonnay. All of the food was beautifully prepared and presented, and was delicious. The view over the lake was beautiful and entertaining, as we watched the boats in the marina coming and going. The service was friendly, helpful, and prompt. It was a good thing there was an assistant waiter, as our waiter did get tied up with some large parties. My only complaint was that our seats were directly under the air conditioning vent, and it did blow cold air on the food, which caused it to cool some before it could be fully consumed.
