Lewiston is lucky to have this great authentic Thai place. I have been to many highly rated Thai places in bigger cities and Thai taste in my own backyard is still my fave. My go to dishes are pad se ew and vegetarian fried rice. And don't forget the Thai iced tea!

A bad place for Thai food.

Thai Taste is my go-to restaurant. I love their ginger chicken. Although the spice level can vary by chef, I have always been satisfied with the quality and quantity of the food. The staff is friendly. One even knows me by name- I told you that it is my go-to place. :) Seriously though, my whole family is able to find meals that they like. I have several vegetarians in the family. They love the vegetable fried rice and the tofu curries. Honestly, you get a lot of food for the price.

Great Thai food. The three meat fried rice combo is great. 4 star has plenty of heat.

This restaurant might be better than our first experience was. The service was great, we were very happy in that respect. Our food was just okay, though. The first problem was not their fault. We wanted the food mild because we were sharing with the kids. Unfortunately, they made the spice level "0" which made the food a little bland. They did bring out a spice tray so we could add some of our own, which definitely improved the taste. The second problem was the lack of vegetables in the dishes. Next time, we'll be sure to add a bit more spice, and to ask for more veggies!

A week or so ago I stopped in Lewiston. When my bud and asked the concierge at the motel for a good place to eat she recommended Thai Taste. We jumped back on the bikes and rode over. The place is a little dated in appearance, but nice, clean and comfortable. It's been too long to remember exactly what I ordered, but I do remember I got the chicken satay as an appetizer. I'm used to this coming out as 4 - 6 little strips of chicken on skewers. What I got was about 6 half-breasts. The portion size was huge! The chicken was well seasoned and there was plenty of peanut dipping sauce. For my main meal I wanted something lighter - it was a hot day and a long ride. I decided on a beef salad dish of some sort. Whatever it was, it was delicious! Not quite the "light" dish that I had envisioned. Between the satay and the salad, I couldn't finish it all, even with help from my friend. For the food that we got (we were both happy) and the amount we paid, we both thought this was a good deal and were very happy that we stopped there.

We asked for Panang curry tofu. When she asked how spicy we wanted, we said: not spicy. She brought tofu in coconut milk. Actually, it tasted more like coconut milk mixed with condensed milk. People were coming in and out all night, and the waitress obviously recognized them, so I'm guessing that they were regulars. Some dishes must be good in there, but it wasn't the mild Panang curry tofu. The only positive thing that I can say is that the portion of coconut milk and tofu was generous. I'm not sure if the reason I didn't finish was because it was such a good portion, or it was so bland. Probably the latter.

Runny sauce that tastes like canned chicken broth, lumpy overcooked rice and limp tasteless vegetables are what you can expect. This isn't even close to what Thai is supposed to taste like. Even if you try to imagine that you're not eating Thai its awful. The service is terrible too. I went in for lunch and it took almost 40 minutes to finally get my food. There was only one front of house person doing everything: seating, serving, taking orders and cashing out. She was busting her ass, but the service still suffered immensely. If you're reading this Thai Taste, please hire another wait staff and a chef with some Thai experience. Right now your restaurant is a complete mess.

Honestly, I've been to tons of Thai restaurants and this place didn't remind of Thai. It was nice for them to take out the fish sauce and oyster sauce, since I'm a vegetarian, but the food didn't remind of Thai food. We ordered lots of options from pad Thai, pad see ew and lots of curries. Massaman curry tasted and looked like potato soup. Tofu was hard and flavorless. And most dishes looked white, not sure why it didn't have any color. Actually, all the curries were really thick. It's not that the taste was horrible but I got a little nauseated the more I ate. Maybe the meat options are better, but my vegetarian experience was...blah.

I stopped here on a road trip from Oregon to Montana. It was lunch time and the restaurant was very busy. There was not an open spot in the parking lot. I took this as a good sign. It wasn't. I ordered the extra hot red curry with chicken. While I waited, the very sweet, yet frazzled, waitress / hostess brought me soup. It tasted like chicken broth with bloated and pasty rice. The curry, while perfectly edible, was disappointing. Instead of having that typical Thai flavor combination of sweet and sour, it tasted very much like an onion gravy. All of the vegetables were overcooked and limp including the unusual addition of a limp slice of onion at the bottom of the bowl. I asked for some chili-fish sauce which you would expect any Thai restaurant to have on hand. They did not, instead the cook had to whip some up and clearly did not know how to make it as they did not add lime, an essential ingredient. It was straight fish sauce with Thai chilies. To top it all off, the rice had to have been at least a day old. It was pasty and had that characteristic lumpy and uneven moisture of old rice. Still it was edible, in the way that leftover Panda Express is edible. I was surprised to find a Thai restaurant at all in middle-of-nowhere Idaho. However, should I ever dine in Lewiston ever again, I'll be eating elsewhere.

This is a little gem in the valley. I was craving pho and the only place that had it closed this summer. So I decided to try the Thai noodle soup here and it was delicious. Definitely hit the spot. I recommend getting any dish at least a level 3 in spice. Anything less is a little bland. The chicken pad Thai was great, not super heavy or creamy like some places. The spring rolls were fantastic and the plum sauce is divine. Perfect blend of sweet and spicy. I'd say this is definitely the best Thai food we've had in the area, and in my top 5 for anywhere I've been. I recommend getting take out for dinner, it can be slammed in the evening and the service is lacking. Give about 15 minutes more than they tell you for your order to be ready too. But it's definitely worth the wait!

Came here for dinner and was disappointed in the quality of the food. I ordered chicken pad Thai and when the dish arrived, it looked more like a soup than anything else. The veggies in other dishes looked old and the flavor was relatively bland. Even though I ordered my dish on the spicy side, it didn't offer any kick whatsoever. On the bright side, the portions are huge so you don't have to worry about leaving hungry. I wasn't expecting much, but this could have been much better.

I love that this restaurant exists in Lewiston, Idaho. I grew up in Lewiston and moved away, and have yet to find a Thai restaurant on the East Coast that hasn't made noodle dishes its specialty. Sure, noodles are safe and every American loves them, but I miss the not overdone sauce-based cooking style at this restaurant. The Swimming Rama and Cashew Chicken are my standbys.

Had allot of good Thai, but Thai Taste is in my top 5. Small, quiet with great service. Large portions..enough to serve three which is not a bad thing. It's amazing food.

I went back after 2 years tonight. If this was a German Restaurant I would call the food, "some of the wurst". All 3 dishes and soup were terrible. The soup was spiceless in spite of asking for a 3.5 degree hotness out of 5. The squid/chili dish stunk because the bamboo shoots which are canned were not properly washed to get rid of the sulphur type smell usually packed with them. All dishes were runny and soupy, a little cornstach would have made them a lot better. I've been to Thailand and live in San Francisco and have been to Thai restaurants. I know what's good and how to prepare this myself and consider myself a good Asian food cook. When people have only one choice, there isn't too much they can say I suppose but still my local friends in Lewiston would not return and this used to be one of their favorite restaurants. A change of menu and cooking style might help them a lot, if they need help as it is. If they were in San Francisco they would be out of business in a few weeks if they served such food and I made it a point of seeing what was served on other tables. Thank you. Maybe changing the name to Thai Tasteless would be an upgrade.

I agree with MT. The folks who run this place seem genuinely nice and run their butts off trying to wait on everyone (they need extra servers), BUT, the food at Thai Taste is easily the worst I have ever tasted. I love Thai food and have eaten at many different Thai restaurants all over the country. This doesn't even come close. The curry was a gelatinous goo that was nearly flavorless (despite ordering 3-star spicy). The pad thai was swimming in a watery sauce yet also had no flavor. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes, but if these two are an example of what the rest of the food is like, I'd recommend steering far clear.

It's hard to believe that there is Thai Food this good in nowheresville Idaho, I can only say that because I grew up in Lewiston. The couple who own the joint are great people and crank out some really amazing food. We always take a group with us and among other things, obligatorily order: pork fried rice, swimming rama and saytay. If you're planning on eating at Thai Taste during peak eating hours, give yourself plenty of time as they only employ 1 or 2 wait staff. So it could take a few to get your food, check, etc. But trust me, it's worth the wait.

I have eaten Thai in a lot of places and this place is better than anywhere else in the Northwest (including Seattle and Portland). Their Pad Thai, Pud see yew (sp?), and Pud kee mao are all great stuff. If you are not from the area chances are you may order the wrong stuff. Oh yeah on a cold day Thai noodle soup is pretty good as well.

In LEWISTON on business again. Had two great meals here on my last trip, so I'm going for a third. This time it's #48, eggplant & tofu with blackbean sauce. Wow, it's great. Three stars of heat is pretty mild, ask for more if you like it hot. Nice fusion of flavors, I don't know what they all are; basil takes the aromatic lead. Hot jasmine tea was served quickly and paired well with the dish.

Thai Taste is one of the best restaurants in the LC valley and one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to across the nation. Start with the thai tea and get ready for some delicious entrees that are great to share family style. Some favorites include the Thom Kai Gai (sp?) soup, the panang, the fried rice, and fabulous pad thai! It's not the cleanest restaurant, but everything else is fabulous!

I have to admit the food is good... but the service is worse than horrible. The young man that is serving there now is quite pathetic. He looked like a fragile mental mess about to have a nervous breakdown this past week. To the owners: Please please please hire some good help & maybe double up at rush times.

This place is good Thai food. Living in SoCal, I have a little perspective now and must say that Lewiston is blessed to have Thai food of this quality on offer. The Swimming Rama is a.may.zing. If you are looking for a really good meal in Lewiston and you're not afraid of foreign food, give this place a try. I highly recommend it.

I am beyond shocked at how high of a rating this place has received on Yelp. One of the worse food I've ever tasted. How can curry come in a plate and not in a bowl? When that happens you know the taste is not far from it's presentation. Soup was extremely salty. Pad see yew came in a pool of sauce even though we confirmed that it will not be very saucy. Worse off is if you are not white, don't come here. The inside room was almost empty yet they wanted to seat us out at the waiting area with the other "color" people.

Great Thai food that you would never expect in Lewiston, Idaho. Service is less than awesome, but I don't think you can expect much more from a ma and pop Thai restaurant in the middle of nowhere. The food is authentic, and the owners love to speak Thai to anyone who wants to chat with them. I absolutely love the Tom Kah Gai, Pad Thai, and Pud See Ew...but I haven't had anything that I don't love. If you are on a tight budget, the lunches are a couple of dollars cheaper, and about the same amount of food--awesome for us college students!

I'm not real big on Thai food, but this was good food. Also, you can ask to see the kitchen at any time (had another customer ask that when I was in there), and they came out and I heard them say how clean the kitchen was. The sauces that they brought out smelled a bit on the old side, but otherwise, we had a pretty good dining experience.
