This is a fantastic BBQ place. The pulled pork was tender and delicious, and the BBQ sauce was perfect. They also had some of the best chicken gumbo I've ever had. All around great food, great service, great experience.

Grandpa's BBQ has a small menu but the food is terrific. For lunch, I had a pulled-beef sandwich with cole-slaw. The sandwich was small but delicious! Let me tell you about the coleslaw, rich in flavor, light and sweet; it's not your usual mayonnaise based coleslaw. The BEST part of Grandpa's, dessert! Homemade cakes and pies, all delicious! I had the Dumpcake- cake, fruit and a pie like crust. AMAZING. Also a great place for a hearty breakfast. If you desire a stick-to-your ribs start of the day, try any one of their breakfast sandwiches. My sandwich choice was a egg, ham and cheese, on toast. Yes, it is a common breakfast sandwich but it is the best you can find that is fresh and has a special homemade touch. Friendly atmosphere and great food make Grandpa's a must stop place to eat.

Best barbeque in Idaho Falls! The pork ribs are special, tender and juicy - Lloyd uses a wonderful dry rub recipe. The barbeque beans are almost worth the trip by themselves. I'm a fan of the collard greens, and the sweet cole slaw's good too. Save room (or take home) Loretta's sweet potato pie or peach cobbler. Not fast food, but service is friendly and the food is worth a little wait.

Lloyd is the best! Very friendly service and amazing authentic BBQ that you just don't get up in this area very often. I had the ribs and they were well seasoned and delicious!

Surprise, real Southern style BBQ in Idaho. Delicious! Try the pulled pork or ribs. For a special treat finish with the sweet potato pie.

Really good BBQ. Thank goodness for Yelp! I ordered the baby back ribs. Great flavor. Not "fall off the bone" like I prefer but good nonetheless. The potato salad is awesome as is the pecan pie. I will be back if I ever pass through Idaho Falls again.

The food was great, especially the gumbo! Grandpa was really nice and apologized for being short handed and a bit slow with service.

Thank you Lord for the best barbecue I have had in a long time. Chicken ribs and brisket are out of this world. Great hospitality, can't wait to come back. If you're in the area looking for some good food you have to get in here.

Service - A+. He's the nicest restaurant owner I've ever met! Gave us a taste of the best gumbo when we were just passing through the building. Will definitely be going back for dinner!

We broke down and had to take our car to Les Schwab. So we decided to Yelp and see what was around the area for lunch. We saw BBQ and thought it sounded good. Well we were not disappointed. At first it is hard to find. You have to go thru the door on the street and then they are in the back of the lobby on the left. It is worth it to search them out. We were greeted quickly and everyone is super friendly! If you are brave order the "swamp water" for a beverage. It's delicious. The best way to describe it is a mix between ice tea, lemonade and juice. They will offer you a sample if you ask. While we were waiting they gave us the gumbo to try. It was very good. I had the pulled pork sandwich w/ coleslaw. The coleslaw has no mayo and is kinda sweet with a crunch. My husband had the brisket w/ potato salad. It is a mustard and pickles type of potato salad. Both delicious! We will be back if we pass thru Idaho Falls!

Grandpa Lloyd has some seriously awesome bbq. One of the nicest guys you will ever meet! The brisket was cooked to perfection and the homemade bbq sauce is excellent. Can't wait to stop back in for another serving.

This is the best BBQ I've ever had. I was driving through with some friends on our way to San Francisco and we stopped in because of yelp reviews. Absolutely delicious in every way! Lloyd gave us a free sample of his perfect gumbo- authentic and well seasoned in every way. Then we ordered- I had the quarter chicken- and he chatted with us about himself and his passion for cooking. The sauce and seasoning of the BBQ was perfect- smoky but not overpowering. Don't let the decor and location turn you away- this is great food. All of the meat falls off the bones. I can't recommend it enough. Lloyd also helped us find an easier route out of Idaho!!

We were looking for a place for a family get together of about 15people. Called and talked to Loyld(owner). He was super accommodating! When we got there he asked if he could serve us family style. He said he would give us a variety of meet and all the sides, we liked! We were not disappointed. Lots of food, it was very good southern BBQ! We all got a small bowl of homemade gumbo, which was amazing! The homemade Raspberry lemonade is amazing. Very friendly service. The price was outstanding for the amount of food we got! So if you need a place for a family gathering, or just a place for lunch or dinner, head on down to Grandpa's, you won't be disappointed. Loyld and Loretta are outstanding people, who run a great family style restaurant.

A great place to eat, whenever we go there aren't too many people there and the owner always spends his time talking to us. The food is definitely the best bqq around and the pies are even better! Tried buttermilk pie for the first time and it was amazing! So if you want to be treated right and make for a great food experience right here in Idaho give this place a try.

A hidden gem and a most unlikely find in Idaho Falls. I had the pulled pork my wife tried the chicken and ribs. All were excellent! The sides, while good, are , I am sure, much better at lunch than at closing time.

A great place for lunch, just good simple BBQ. We stopped by at an odd time, and were the only people in the place. The Owner served us and he was very friendly and welcoming.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this was THE worst BBQ that I've ever had in my life, and I've sampled a lot of BBQ all over the US. My ribs hadn't ever seen the inside of a smoker or BBQ pit, and were most likely boiled, and cooked in the oven. There was no smoke ring or hint of smoke, and were a uniform pink throughout. They had a very hard tug when bitten, instead of allowing for a perfect bite. The green beans had zero flavor and no seasoning whatsoever. Despite being warned against patronizing this place, I decided to give it a try anyway. Lesson learned. There was a very nice older gentleman there, that was perhaps the owner who I did enjoy talking to. However, I didn't have the heart to tell him his food was in major need of help.

The owner is the nicest guy, very polite! The pecan pie was to die for, yummy! Also, the potato salad was delicious, they had just made a new batch and the owner asked if it would be ok if it was still warm. I'm glad I said yes, soooo good!! ;)

Very good food. Wonderful service. We arrived a few minutes before closing. We were going to leave, they incised we stay and our party of five enjoyed.

Not much of a sign on the street and, like most good barbeque places, not much atmosphere inside. I had the brisket, collard greens, baked beans, and sweet tea. The brisket was a bit firm for my taste, but it was served with some of the fat cap, which was nice. The sauce was uninspired, but the pepper vinegar really made the greens a lot better. My associate had the ribs, which he said were very good. The standout actually was the baked beans, which are usually a forgettable side dish. They had some character. Finished off with pecan pie and coffee. The pecan pie was believably made there. The coffee was quite poor. I didn't really expect anything else, especially when I saw it was one of those prepackaged "coffee pouch" things. He did make it fresh, though, so it could have been much worse. In my dreamworld happy-place kingdom of the mind, all restaurants serve great coffee. In reality, if you want good coffee in Idaho Falls, I think the Villa is your best bet. The religious gas wafting out of the radio was not a plus for me, but at least it wasn't Christmas music or sports or top 40 or . . . come to think of it, I've never been in a place where my experience was enhanced by having the radio on.

Grandpa Southern barbecue was a huge disappointment. First thing was the water tasted like something you shouldn't drink. Now the food I'm pretty sure was microwave. Also the prices were way too expensive for what you got. On the upside the macaroni and cheese cheese was really good. Unfortunately not good enough to make up for all the other problems.

We made a pit stop here for lunch while driving back to California. The people in this restaurant were incredibly friendly. They had great customer service. I like their letter to the customer in the menu where it said "we've been blessed to make a tremendous number of good friends...we may never become wealthy thru the business but our wealth of good friends and good customers is the greater wealth" which was very touching. Their bowl of chicken gumbo served with corn bread is a must have. It's on a secret menu. Their corn bread is moist and delicate. The barbaque baked beans were soo good and the potatoe salad was creamy. I didn't try the ribs or pull pork sandwich but my friends who did enjoyed their meal. Compared to other barbaque place I have been to, the portion size of the meal could be a bit larger but sometimes it just about the quality and not quantity. They didn't have the brisket meat I wanted so they gave me round meat with a discount. I wished they could have asked me if I wanted something else instead of bringing me something of their choice out to me. It was not bad though. The barbaque sauce was a bit running for my liking. I could tell most of the food served was heated back up and served, but one can tell they were homemade food.

I just recently went to the new Rexburg location. I loved the woman who runs it (JJ) and how sweet and nice she is. The service made it a really enjoyable experience and the food had a ton of flavor.

I stayed the night in Idaho Falls as I was doing a road trip and found this gem of a place while searching for a spot to eat. The food was great, the service was friendly and warm, and the prices were reasonable too. My girlfriend and I split a pound of pork ribs, ordered some additional sides, and ended up paying about $13 apiece including drinks and dessert. The BBQ was the best I've had in years. The pork ribs were PHENOMENAL, both with and without sauce (which was served on the side). The collard greens, baked beans, and potato salad were also top notch. The sweet potato pie was just as good as I had growing up. The only con for the place is that it's located inside of an office building, there's no signage on the outside so you have to know the address and you have to hunt the place down when you enter the building. Given how good the food is, I think it's worth finding.

This place was amazing for all the right reasons. First of all it's like a hidden gem. You aren't quite sure if you're in the right place, but then you see the sign and Lloyd's smiling face and you are good to go. Lloyd is one of the most kind and warm human beings I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He had my cousin and I try some chicken and sausage gumbo that I wish I could buy by the gallon. I'm not sure if it's on the menu yet, but when it is ORDER IT! I had the brisket and he brings BBQ sauce to the table. Up north we are used to thick BBQ sauce that overpowers the flavor of the meat and that's really the only flavor you get. However, Lloyd's sauce is phenomenal! I recommend getting a heavy coating on the brisket and then have a nice chat with Lloyd while the sauce does it's work enhancing the flavors of the dish. I had Mac n Cheese as my side and I was overjoyed when I saw it was homemade and seasoned perfectly. My cousin kindly let me try her BBQ beans and WOW! Those should be marketed! FANTASTIC! For dessert I had a slice of pecan pie and it was everything I hoped it would be. Lloyd asked us if we had ever tried buttermilk pie. We had not so he brought us a sample and I bought a slice to take home. It has so many interesting flavors! It tastes a bit like egg nog and coconut cream. Not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure but don't knock it until you try it! What really makes this place special is Lloyd. He is so friendly and happy to meet new people and share his cooking. He made me want to come back everyday. If you are tired of chain restaurants and you want amazing service backed up with amazing food, please check this place out. I only write reviews if I think the are deserved for better or for worse and I'm happy that I have Grandpa's to add to my top 10 best!
