I've been exploring Idaho for a week. This is by far the best food I've had anywhere in the whole state. Coming back again tomorrow!

An absolutely amazing night. Kid friendly but also outstanding food. We had the house cured meats as an app that were delightful then a vegetarian Napoleon and the beef tenderloin. Both were surprising and amazing. The panna cotta was too good to share and we wish we had gotten our own. It would be worth the drive from Boise just for dinner!!!!!

My family and I stumbled across this restaurant recently and were very surprised. Food here was excellent. We had the poke, steak and chicken pasta. Everything was very good. Loved the bread and hummus. The hostess however did not seem kid friendly, which was my only deterrent.

What a surprise to find such a great restaurant in such a small town. Definitely NOT a greasy spoon. The menu will delight you.

I've lived in LA, currently live in the Bay Area, and I've eaten in New York... This is really good food. I was shocked. I thought we were going to be eating bar food. Instead we had an amazing salmon, a delectable Greek salad, and gazpacho that was to die for. Foodies, rally at this place.

I was honestly amazed at the quality of the food and craftsmanship in creating their dishes. I was fortunate enough to try a meal here on their first night in operation for the summer season. My buddy and I split a couple of appetizers (Japanese steak bites were exceptional) and the Vietnamese pork soup. I have been eating in McCall recently and was about to give up on finding a restaurant that was even passable when I happened into the Buffalo Gal Dinner House. They blew my mind - I though all food that far north came out of a can or jar or freezer along with sauces. The complex flavors were well balanced, modern techniques (black and white sesame seeds) and the meal sat well with me. The taste's of the Global Comfort Foods are more sophisticated than their sign lets on. They are open 5-9 Wed-Sun only. If you are a foodie and in the area this place is a must try. Looking forward to my next trip!

Buffalo Gal lives up to the hype. Who knew you could find a unique menu and servers who really know what they're doing in such a remote area?!? During a week-long vacation in McCall with my family (three generations...it was seriously the whole family), my sister and I wanted to take our mother and step-dad out for a memorable meal. Don't get me wrong, the restaurants in McCall are great, but everything seemed very predictable and touristy. We decided to see what else was within driving distance, and the other Yelp reviews for Buffalo Gal piqued my interest. Everything was absolutely perfect. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, the service was top-notch, and the food was just outstanding. We started with wine and a round of small plates, including Hawaiian poke, chana masala, and the house-cured meat platter (all were amazing). My adorable 11-year-old niece ordered the spaghetti and meatballs (pork and beef, absolutely delish), my mother, step-dad, and teenage nephew all enjoyed the brisket (so tender), my sister loved the salmon, her husband gorged on the behemoth BBQ burger, my hubby was thrilled with the steak topped with mushrooms and bleu cheese, but my meal was the envy of the table (and I even shared a little): the Vietnamese pork and noodles. Our server said it's one of the most popular items on the menu, and I can see why. The tender pork brisket strips are so flavorful, and tossed with green beans, red bells, and basil. Perfectly stir-fried and delicious. The huge portion was enough to share a bite or two with the whole family. For those of you who are foodies and looking for something really special, Buffalo Gal will not disappoint. Sure, the view is not as spectacular as a lovely deck overlooking the lake, but the food will more than make up for it. Do not miss a visit to Buffalo Gal.

I've never wanted to give a place more than 5 stars until now! I can honestly give them a 7 out of 5 star rating!! We dined al fresca under lights strung among the rafters. The sweet young lady who waited on us was so nice and informative of the menu. The menu itself fulfilled the claim of "global comfort foods" giving options originating from Peru, Vietnam, Japan, Argentina, and many other countries. We started with the Polenta fries as an appetizer, delicious while it thankfully didn't fill me up too much which has always been my problem with appetizers. I ordered the Southwest Chicken Pasta, just the right amount of southwestern heat plus sun dried tomatoes, cucumbers, bow tie pasta, and succulent chicken. My party also ordered a dish called Something Napolean (bad memory!) and it was raved about! I only sampled the side dish of gnocci. Oh my goodness.... So so good, a dish I am now determined to learn how to make for myself. We also had a Beef brisket, also raved about incessantly. The beef was tender and the sauce a perfect compliment. With huckleberry lemonade to drink and two Ghirardelli Chocolate Molten Cakes with homemade ice cream for dessert we left very full and very happy. We will most definitely be back as regulars in the future! Just make sure you know the hours and months they are open!

You're kidding me! A restaurant this good in a town of about 190 people. Was impressed through the meal, from the bread to the dessert. We had an argentine beef entre and a steak entre and both were superb. The dessert was an almond crusted pineapple upside down cake and it was tasty and different. Service was spot on and the prices were very good for a restaurant of such quality.

This is by far our favorite Valley County restaurant. The chef and owner (with spouse) is classically trained, experienced and creative. Unfortunately the space is pretty limited and reservations are needed to eat most evenings. It is well worth the effort to travel from McCall, Tamarack Resort or Cascade for an exceptional taste experience. This is not a huge calorie overload giant steak and potato kind of place. It is not pretentious, but offers an opportunity to take your taste buds on a rare trip of exposure to some awesome combinations. We usually start with the small plate options meant for sharing and include treats like amazingly seaoned Japanese steak bites with a wonderful asian coleslaw sampling; steamed clams and calamari with 2 choices of sauces (the Thai green curry sauce is addictive but don't eat it first), patatas bravos with Spanish sauce, skewed prawns, Hawaiian Poke and more. Their little sampling of humus that comes with the bread is the best I have ever tasted. They smoke their own chicken for a salad and separate pasta option with a Chipotle cream sauce (it is so good). I also like their huckleberry lemonade and split/share/try their desserts. The homemade coconut ice cream with wafer, Carmel and toasted coconut flakes is my standard for comparing all other desserts. The food is worth the higher prices, but you go to experience something special. There are available alternatives to hold the bill down, but sometimes it is not so easy as it it so good. Enjoy!

City slickers rejoice!! We are from the Bay Area and happily ate our way through Buffalo Gals fine cuisine this evening. We can't stop raving about the food quality, service, and ambiance. Must try: huckleberry lemonade, steak (add shrooms), and Peruvian salmon. We ordered two molten cakes with ice cream for dessert and they were oohy gooey drippy good!!! The exterior saloon signage and look and feel belie a truly 5-star dining experience. Must visit!!!

Must've driven past Buffalo Gal dozens of times on our way to and from McCall - always assumed it was just another burger joint, so never bothered to drop in! Did a yelp search for best restaurants in McCall a few days ago, however, and was shocked to see such high praise for this little eatery! Took the whole family last night and we can only pile on to the restaurant's rave reviews! We were all blown away by the eclectic (all house-made) menu, spot-on quality/preparation, attentive and friendly service, and obvious pride in their work/art. Best calamari fritti I've had outside of Italy, terrific homemade salad dressings (we bought a jar of the apple-bacon dressing to take back to the cabin), fork-tender Argentinian braised beef brisket, amazing Japanese eggplant udon salad, delectable latte panna cotta and coconut ice cream with rum caramel sauce for dessert - so much goodness! Wine list is small, but well-chosen. Check out their menu online and don't forget to call for reservations - this joint is jumpin'!

Blown away by the food and the service at this restaurant in a small town of about 200! One of the best meals we've had since moving to Idaho. Super eclectic menu which concerned me at first because usually multi-regional concepts are hard to execute but Buffalo Gal nailed each one we tried. Our wonderful server, Brian, took our drink order and brought us some bread with house made hummus and a tasty amuse bouche of pickled vegetables. This meal was already off to a great beginning! We started with the masala and added the cauliflower and potatoes. The curry had a great tang and even though the naan wasn't traditional I could have eaten an entire basket. I actually loved the non-traditional naan but my "I bake as a hobby" husband thought the dough needed to rise a bit more. Brian sold me on their salmon special just to crush my heart moments later by telling me they sold out. With the hearty order of masala on the way I ordered the Japanese steak bites off the small plates. JP ordered the brisket which is slow-roasted for something like 14 or 16 hours. Every bite melted in our mouths. I seriously didn't want to stop eating it was such a magical dining experience, something I have truly missed since moving to Boise. I didn't think I would use magical, amazing, outstanding, etc...to describe food in Idaho (and I do have some faves in Ketchum) but Buffalo Gal was all those and more. They make all of their ice cream in-house so I had to end my food affair with the coconut. Mmmmmm....drooling thinking about it and wishing we had some in the fridge. I never knew I would head up to Tamarack and return with a major food crush. I am smitten. The restaurant is open Thursday thru Sunday, 5PM-9PM. Thanks to the reviewer who mentioned making reservations...we called Sunday after skiing and got a table for 7:30. When we arrived the place was bustling and the only open table was the one waiting for us. The atmosphere isn't anything special, they could really use some better lighting to create atmosphere but you aren't going here for the decor, it's all about the food.

Fantastic service, delicious food, and a diverse menu that always features new and unique specials. I go every time I spend a weekend in McCall.

Outstanding - one of the best places we ate while skiing Christmas week 2011. Highlights included Dim Sum, Brisket, Casole and pasta. Portions are generous and they have a nice selection of reasonably priced wines. Dining for maybe 30, so best to make a reservation. Could use a lighting designer to improve the aumbiance, otherwise a very quaint Resturant. I would go again.

Ok, so I haven't written a review in a few years for this restaurant, but it doesn't mean I think they don't deserve it!! They deserve 10 stars every night! We ate there tonight to perfection. Apps of chinese pork and seeds and carne asada tacos (where else can you get BOTH done to perfection?) and mains of smoked chicken chipotle pasta and hungarian pork chop with paprika gravy, braised red cabbage and house-made spaetzle... To. Die. For. It was a stormy, snowy night and the fare was perfect to warm the cockles of our hearts! Tom is a master in the kitchen and Julie is the sweetheart of the front of the house. Winning combo! Thank you Buffalo Gal!!

Well... you won't believe this but Ivers in Seattle used to be my favorite restaurant of all time until I found the Buffalo Gal in Donnelly Idaho. The folks that own this restaurant are worldly travelers and bring home the most delightful dishes one can only imagine. The chef is a true chef not a cook, and his wife organizes the dinning that gives a warm friendly atmosphere for your dinning pleasure. I've had most of their dishes since we moved to McCall two years ago and everyone of them are exquisite. Every item is prepared fresh and the seasonings are rare to find anywhere, especially in a small town. I've traveled a lot in my life of 66 years ,from Chile to Canada . I've eaten at lot of restaurants due to my career, but this one, is the most memorable for the quality, variety , and price. There is something for everyone! Here is a great TIP for you when you order : Don't ask what the soup of the day is , JUST ORDER IT ! Jon I

Great restaurant. Texas brisket, salmon, sushi, whatever you order, it's all good. The wine list is good, prices are reasonable, and overall experience is definitely a cut above other restaurants in the area. Worth a special trip from McCall.

Wow what a great place!! Been to the Mill , Steamers, and the Sushi Bar..... This place was by far the best. The Hawaiian Poke was better than anything that I have tried from California or in the Treasure Valley.Their Spicy Tuna roll wasn't diced up Tuna with spicy sauce like most sushi places. It was actual tuna pieces with the spicy sauce on it which made it a perfect combo. We also tried their brisket which was tender and amazing. O top of it all their homemade humus was one of a kind. I've been to the Middle East and have tried humus from the motherland and Buffalo Gal's Humus is the top dog!! Amazing food plus how can you complain when you have Earth Wind and Fire and Reggae for dinner music!! Definitely recommend.

We love this place. A true gem. The owner/ hostess makes all who enter feel welcome and appreciated. Innovative worldly menu with a home on the range casual chic atmosphere. We look forward to eating here everytime we visit the area. Very good sushi, lamb is excellent. Enjoyed the burgers too.

Who would have thought that the best meal I would have on my week out west ( Seattle via McCall to Portland) would be at this little roadside restaurant. But it was! The chef owner has pulled flavors together from a variety of places, each obet astonishingly perfect. Six of us stooped, unable to choose we ordered one of almost everything. Unanimously we thought it all delicious but by far the pot roast was the thing we agreed we would order next time if we could only choose one thing. We tossed up whether the sweet potato gnocchi or the fries with sauce would be our side. The house made hummus was the best our hummus expert had tasted and the chocolate lava with homemade ice cream left us all too stuffed to move. The wine selection was lovely and reasonably priced... All in all a big winner and well worth the drive from McCall....Or Seattle

McCall Donnelly Idaho is the land of vacation homes (like my family's) and gorgeous scenery. But local restaurants like the Mill or Lardos are fairly traditional. But here's an absolute standout (maybe even a "find") for this region. Buffalo Gal started as a produce shop and the owner transformed it into a small restaurant. I believe its a husband who cooks and a wife who runs the dining room. They run two menus, one with fabulous sushi and another with unique western fair. Very modest building but remarkable food (and deserts). The place is right on highway 55. Call ahead. The place can is small and can get busy also the owners go on vacation and close the restaurant during some periods of the year.
