I took my husband here for his birthday, it was a surprise. We've heard good things about Wolf Lodge. The steak was amazing, probably the best I've ever experienced. We liked it so much, we went back a month later. If you don't like steak, go somewhere else.

I had flashbacks of John Candy's "The Great Outdoor's" movie walking into this place. It was built in the 30's and it's dark and kitschy with great grungy country music. We were on a family vacation with the in laws and everyone wanted to try the Rocky Mountain Oysters. . . .and they did. And they liked them. Me - I passed. The beer selection was good, and their cocktail menu looked decent. I definitely wanted to try their bloody mary - it comes with shrimp, pickle, olive, asparagus, celery and something else. . . but alas, it didn't seem fitting to order at night. We all ordered steak - very good, and cooked just right. The sides and soups left something to be desired, but overall a good meal. The servers were kind and friendly. This is definitely a MUST GO AND SEE when in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. It's not the best food - but if you're hungry after being in the wild blue yonder all day - this is a definite must do.

A cool little slice of Idaho. We arrived right when it opened with a party of 8, and were seated right away as we had made a reservation earlier that day. The atmosphere was fun - somewhat country with a wise-ass vibe. The drink selection was decent - my girlfriend got the Wolf Bite, complete with celery, asparagus, a pickle, a shrimp, a piece of steak and some candied bacon. It was an appetizer in and of itself. I ordered the Rocky Mountain Oysters, which arrived hot and were very tasty, served with cocktail sauce and lemon. The meal came with a salad, too, with very good ranch that I believe was homemade. I ordered the surf and turf, which was essentially just pairing any steak on the menu with any fish. I got the Little Dude with the fresh Idaho trout. The fish was delicious, served with lemon and butter sauce. Perfectly cooked and seasoned - definitely my favorite dish in Idaho so far. The steak was a good cut, and cooked perfectly (I always order mine rare, and they nailed it). All meals come with baked beans that are both sweet and a bit spicy, I believe with chili powder. The price was pretty standard for a steakhouse, maybe skewing a bit expensive. All and all, I would recommend this place for special occasions if you are in the area. All of the steaks in my party looked good, but I highly recommend the trout.

Really a hidden gem outside of CDA. The steaks are grilled over an open wood fire pit that you can go see at the center of the restaurant. Everything was excellently prepared. The bread and buckaroo beans were simply amazing. A better cut off meat would have made it 5*.

Although the service is sometimes hit or miss over the years our last few visits have been awesome. One thing is certain... The food and fun ambiance is always consistent. We LOVE bringing our out of town guests here. A true Idaho experience. My mom always gets the trout but I love the filet. I get the fried pickles as well. They are always expanding the menu too.

All I can say is: "ribeye." It's unlike any other steak around. It's cooked over tamarack wood and it's magical. You won't regret it.

We heard about this place through a friend of a friend. Made the reservations and were seated promptly. Wifey ordered the Wolf Bite Bloody Mary...giant and great, all sorts of goodies added to it. Service was great. Our friend ordered the "Swinging Steak" AKA Bull Balls. No comment. Wifey and our friend both ordered the Ribeye, I tried the Baseball cut Sirloin. All 3 steaks were out of this world good. I also tried the fresh Trout, this was very good. The sides were all great..will definitely return to this place. Worth the visit if you are in the area.

Wow!!! Great food, service and atmosphere! Several unique items on the appetizer menu, about 12 different steak choices and 8 or so seafood choices. A good beer and wine selection. There were about 6 desserts to choose from and we tried the chocolate cake. Well worth the way out of town drive (be sure to make reservations. We had them and we were taken right in, while the other folks had to wait.).

Have to say we were real excited to eat at the lodge, had several people tell us it was great. We were all a bit disappointed with our meal. Had some confusion with our appetizers and they ended up coming with our salad. Then the main course came a bit undercooked in our opinion. We asked for medium and it was on the rare side... The meat seamed a little over seasoned too All of us loved the bread and honey butter, it was so good it could of been dessert. Had a GREAT bottle of Provenance 2009 Cabernet. Ambiance was nice, we had reservations and got seated right away. Don't live here and if I came back through I would most likely try a different place for dinner

After a long day of driving this was the closest place. So happy, the food was great. They have been here for over 75 years. My husband thinks he used to eat here 35 years ago. All that experience adds up to great service and a well turned steak. I had the Lil' dude. It was melt in you mouth good. Paired with a very good Austalian Malbec. I definitely recommend this fine estanlishment.

Great place. I traveled to spokane for a professional development course and came the the lodge to eat. I was solo so I sat at the bar and held nice conversation with the bartender, manager and the staff. All very friendly. The food is great and they way they prepare the steaks is first class. If I'm ever in the area again I would most certainly eat there another time.

Disappointed on July 4 visit. One steak filet overcooked. Halibut side order small, dry, over seasoned and looked like "any white fish filet". Not the previous large, moist, unseasoned, open pit grilled halibut we enjoy. Would hesitate to order halibut again. Maybe second string cooks working the holiday. Typically one of our top five restaurants in area.

My husband and I tried Wolf Lodge for our anniversary last night after hearing good reviews from family that live locally. I'll admit that I was skeptical as we drove into the remote part of the lake and walked into the western themed restaurant. As a city gal when I think exceptional steak I head to the metropolitan grill - it's Idaho so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised by the cowboy hats! The stuffed mushrooms were great, we shared the filet mignon and NY strip - meat was great and cooked perfectly at medium and medium rare. Standard ceasar salad and side veggies, the bread is a little different and sweet but was tasty. We didn't get to try the buckaroo beans which our server let us know were all out.. "oops sorry!" Expect plastic water glasses and linen free table but a solid meal in a theme restaurant. One star down for customer service, despite our reservation we waited 20 minutes, and our waitress may have been having a rough night. I'd be happy to eat here again during our visits to CDA.

  • Bob J.

Too bad this restaurant isn't in Seattle! I had the best NY Strip I've ever eaten at this restaurant. Meat is sourced locally and grilled over mesquite. Just the right balance of smoke and real beefy flavor. Friendly service. Ambience is 'honky tonk log cabin.' Not cheap, however.

The steaks we had were excellent, super tender, very good flavor. Service was very good. Food was a quite pricey. Tomato bisque soup wasn't very good. It was like eating spaghetti sauce.

We were with a group in Spokane at a conference. One of the guys recommended Wolf Lodge so a bunch of us drove over (80 miles round trip) You for sure need to make reservations-glad we did. It's a busy place even on a week night. The building is 80 years old, like stepping back in time. :-) The restrooms are clean. As for the food-salads were good, homemade rolls were very very yummy, warm and fresh. I had a New York which was excellent, my husband had the Filet Mignon which he said was good. I had the baked potato with all the toppings-good ! My husband had the steak fries which are quartered potato. He didn't care for them. They did not look appealing to me. Neither of us cared for the beans, not a lot of flavor-rather bland. All in all everyone in the group enjoyed their meals and thought the steaks were great. Everyone was very full !!!! The guys enjoyed seeing where the steaks were cooked. Our server was very nice. He got all our orders correct and served at the same time. He was suppose to bring more bread which he never did. The service was good but slow. We will go back again when in Spokane. It was fun and worth the drive. We said if we lived in the area it would be a once or twice a year great place to go for a special occasion. It's not your average steakhouse and well worth the price we paid for our meal. Overall experience-very pleased !!!

STACY our server was the best!!!! WOW what service!! Oh the food and drinks were just AWESOME TOO!!! We had reservations from our hotel and did not have to wait once we got there! I was with my son and his birthday is a few days away, but they celebrated it that night a few nights early!!! How cool was that??!! Really a nice and laid back place to go. My filet mignon was cooked perfect along with my tasty LDB Rocket Dog Rye IPA. I would highly recommend!!! I love CDA!!!!

  • Christopher M.

For the money, it's the best steak I've ever eaten. I have made trips to Spokane just to go here. The staff is amazingly friendly all the time. They have so much seating I could easily get lost and their steak is fresh, cooked correct (to your order). It's all about the steak. Protip: Just f*@kin' go! Restaurant request: Wolf Lodge owners, is it possible for you to start carrying Snake River Farms cuts even at a premium? I believe your cooking method and seasoning combined with SRF would make you the best steakhouse in the country.

  • Michael U.

Arguably the best steak around with a first class setting! My wife and I came here for dinner and it did not disappoint! Our server, Jamie, did a great job and took good care of us the whole time. We started off with and appetizer - cheese sticks ($8), which were excellent! We then both opted to have the beer-cheese soup....which I wish I could bathe in. It's incredible! For my steak (why would you even consider ordering something else?) I had the 16oz ribeye ($28), medium-rare. The steaks are all cooked over wood, which gives them excellent flavor that I've never found elsewhere! Likewise, the baked potatoes are done perfectly, as you would expect from an Idaho steakhouse! If you've never been here, do yourself a favor and check it out. It may be a long drive from Spokane, but you won't be disappointed. Just make sure you get a reservation, this place is packed almost every night for a reason!

Wolf Lodge is an area landmark and I have always found it fascinating that there was a restaurant this successful in the middle of no where. We have been there a half a dozen times in 17 years. We keep going back because we're like if its that popular we must not be going on the right nights or because out of town guests wish to go no matter how much we protest. The first or second time we went (before they remodeled), we went with friends and we both had children 3 and under. We asked for 2 small plates for the kids to give them some food to push around on their plates. We were each charged $10.00 PER plate for 3 year olds! Before you scream, "Well they have to wash the plates.", they could have just as easily given us basket liners for the kids to use. Steaks are always over salted and the sides are never anything to write home about. The last time my daughter and I were there she was 8 or 9 and she had to use the bathroom and did not want to go on her own. While in the bathroom, the waitress threw the door open so hard it bounced off the wall with a thud. She thought we had dined and dashed and then did not apologize for scaring my daughter. I understand this happens, but had she bothered to grace our table with her presence we could have informed her we were going to the bathroom. The waitress was so snarky after that we boxed up our food and and left. Now on a positive note the owners usually donates gift certificates to schools for fundraisers. They even donated a certificate when I explained I was buying one for our favorite bus driver who was retiring. Great tourist spot, like Silverwood and I wouldn't eat at Silverwood very often either.

Amazing! My fiancé and I went on a weeknight and had to wait, they offered us a seat at the bar which was awesome. They serve Mannys on tap which is another plus. When we were seated the waitress was very friendly! We ordered the shrimp skewers for an appetizer which never came so we mentioned it to the waitress and she was so sincerely apologetic and she offered free desert! For our main course we got the ribeye meal. BEST steaks hands down we have ever had. For our free desert we shared the huckleberry cheesecake which we finished quickly, it was delicious. I highly recommend coming to Wolf Lodge...you may want to make reservations though they fill up quickly!!!

I went to college in Spokane so I was able to make it out to the Wolf lodge a few times. This is by far the best steak I have had in my life so far. I always get the ribeye. My wife had the large shrimp which were also amazing.

True to reservations. :) We booked an 8:00PM reservation, and when we arrived, we were seated immediately, regardless of the long wait at the door. Best steak, shrimp, baked potato, and even green beans we have ever had. The prices are so low for such high quality food and service. Highly recommend!!

I grew up in CDA and have been going to Wolf Lodge for 30 years. It is a treat for us to go out to dinner and was very disappointed in our last visit. We had a reservation and still had to wait 30 min, our server didn't show up for 15 min after being seated, one of our steaks was way undercooked (we know wolf lodges medium) bread made it late and beans never made it. The waitress knew of these issues and seemed to sympathize but everything seemed out of her control. It's a shame for someone that only treats themselves to Wolf Lodge once a year to have such a poor experience especially on my wedding anniversary.

This restaurant is beautiful. Hidden away on the outskirts of Coeur d'Alene you don't even know this gem is here. The atmosphere is country/bbq house. You can sit right next to the giant grill which is where they bbq everything from lobster to filet minon using tamarack wood. In another room you can sit next to a roaring fireplace. Everything is perfect. All the dishes are amazing and cooked to perfection. If you are looking for the best steak in town, then look no further than this true Idaho steakhouse.

  • Nicholas C.

I don't care where you have had Steak. You will not get a better cut or a better cooked piece of meat. I wanted rare and my friend wanted medium rare and they cooked it perfectly for both of us. That is amazing well cooked. Love this place, good for all ages.

  • Amy A.

Where's the wow factor? The fireplace?! Sure the atmosphere is neat but the food has got to live up to that too! This place could have so much potential as the CDA area is without many good choices. I know good restaurants and travel a lot and was shocked at what N Idahoans consider good food for that price. Texas road house is 1/3 the price yet 10 times better even though they're chain and use MSG in their food. Menu: B o r i n g... Sides are baked potato or French fries, or you can pay extra for zucchini. Wow, how creative, throw a potato in the oven... The steak.... Eh, I guess its okay if thats all you want. The salmon with butter and garlic salt tastes like what I cook at home, and I'm not a great cook. If your thing is a piece of meat with a potato, no flair, little flavor come here. They even have packaged crackers and packs of honey at the table... Service: we had to find our waitress for the check and got butter for the potato 15 minutes too late... enough said. Had we paid $10-15 a plate I'd be less harsh but still wouldn't return. Go to Spokane for great choices, Millfords, Churchills, even their Wolf Lodge is much better (not affiliated, different menu).

We came here with a couple that recommended it. Good: nice friendly waitress, served relatively quickly. Bread was warm. Bad: I ordered the porterhouse and it just tasted funny. Didn't really like it. My wife ordered the filet and said she didn't really like it either. My friend even said it was not as good as last time he was there. Beans not very good either. Nothing Special: salad, baked potato, same desserts as 98% of the restaurants in the area. For steak, the best in the area is Churchill's. I have yet to find anything that compares to them.

Been eating here off and on for 35 yrs for special occasions. We went last night for my Sons Birthday. I thought I would try the Ribeye rather than my usual cowboy cut. I was disappointed with my steak. It was on the chewy side (a bit tough in the center). My wife and two Sons were very happy with their steaks. If we go back, I will stay with the Sirloin cut and not spend the extra 7 bucks to be disappointed. The service was great and very accommodating.

The only place in the area to eat. Pass on the mushrooms and onion rings....no big deal at all. Steak good but salty. Not the greatest but nice atmosphere.

    (3)
  • Jim R.

WOW, what a steak! Great prep with smoke and then grilled....16 oz sirloin melted...no knife needed. Filet was equally awesome and they make a baked potato like most places have forgotten how. A must stop in the Coeur D'Alene area. Service was excellent.

  • J S.

Not worth the buck. 20 min outside of town. Not a great atmosphere. The tomato basil bisk tasted like ragu spaghetti sauce and the buckaroo beans tasted liked canned ranch style beans with a little flavoring. The plastic coca cola cups were a nice touch.(scarcasim) I expected a lot more for $20 to $30 dollar plates. The fish was good. Steak under cooked, beer was good. Not all bad, service was good. Won't be back. You can do much better in town for the price.

  • Walter P.

Well, I heard so many great things about this place since I moved here last summer. While my meal was tasty, the waitress just plain stunk. Sure she was pleasant, but with the wait to order, the wait to get the check, and the cold shrimp my wife had, it made it a stressful Father's Day for my lovely wife. She had to get the hostess who seem bothered until she realized she had to cover for a very poor waitress. People came and went in our section for the 2 hrs we were there. You pay a decent price for a decent steak, and as I said my steak and my sons steak was great, but with this service I doubt I will ever go back, or recommend this place, and most likely steer people somewhere elsewhere. What this poor waitress didn't realize is that I entertain a lot of town guests and this will reflect how I speak about this place in the future.

I had a fantastic, super rare, delicious ribeye!!! No reservation needed but there was still a good crowd. Had a couple of Moose Drool beers to wash it down and recommend you do too. It's all been mentioned previously so I won't drag this out but I was very, very happy with my decision to have a steak dinner here!

Disenchanted Atmosphere was a fun rustic cowboy type place, service was good but the steaks leave plenty to be desired. First of all they are dipped or marinated in some sort of chemical tenderizer that is salty, sorry folks I am not impressed with melt in your mouth meat that is loaded with tenderizer, plus 3 out of 4 of us felt the steaks were too salty (the salt lover of the table said they were just right and didn't need any salt). Secondly all plates are served ala 1970's steakhouse style so there is no creativity or anything that is new or unique in the place. However they do know how to cook their protein items to the correct temperatures. Bottom line - if chemical tenderizers and salt are your thing than you will love this place, however if you are looking for quality meat that is not over-powered by salt than this is not your place. (2 stars for ambiance, service and good halibut)

On the recommendation of several people at work (thanks Mel!), I brought my wife here for dinner on 2/2/6/2012. I loved the atmosphere. The waiting area is adorned with lots of cute little signs with funny sayings. We didn't have to wait for more than a couple of minutes before we were seated. We both had a cup of soup as an appetizer. Suzy had the Ribeye, and I had the 40oz. combo special. The steaks were cooked perfectly, and they tasted awesome. Their steaks are cooked over an open flame, and I prefer that type of char over pan/griddle frying. I liked the side of Idaho beans, but Suzy wasn't that thrilled. With a drink for my wife, and a very large Mac & Jack's beer for me, dinner was about $175 including the tip. While not the best food I've EVER eaten, it is right up in the top 10. We'll definitely be back! P.S. Make sure to call in for your reservations early, and ask to sit by the fireplace!

some people like texas roadhouse, and they are fine for what they are. people that want to go to a real steakhouse in this area go here. it costs a little more but it is soooo worth it. usually. my wife and i have been here a few times and the first couple times i was blown away. nice huge cuts of smoky goodness. the meat literally melts in your mouth. absolute deliciousness. our last couple visits though....not so much. we went tonight for the wife's b-day feast. service was great. food. ummmm yeah. we all got cowboy steaks (16oz sirloin). mine was way underdone. the salad was leaf lettuce and not much else. i dont like the way they do their "fries" (it's pretty much a potato that has been quartered lentgthwise and fried) so tonight i got string beans. not much better. you will need a reservation for dinner, but was super surprised to go there at 6pm on a friday night and not be very busy. yet we were still packed into a tiny booth/table. not cool. would still recommend though hoping tonight was just an off-night.

I've been a few times. Reservation is recommended, but hasn't been totally necessary the times I've been (summer and fall, sat evenings). They got us in pretty quickly without a reservation on one occasion. Fine service and nice country atmosphere. We usually get the New York strip and salmon. Both are amazing. The steak is particularly good. Definitely a cut above your average steak place. The steak fries are just ok. The vegetables are quite good. I even tried the Rocky Mountain oysters. They're honestly pretty good--you only taste the breading, and it's fine. With 2 people I would recommend splitting an entree and adding a side (side of salmon is 10-15 bucks) unless you're both big eaters. You can save a few bucks that way and still have plenty to eat. Still plan on 60-70$ for two after an appetizer and soda. It's really quite good (particularly the steak), but it's expensive. 4 stars because I thought it just met my expectations for the expensive price.

Best Steak in the Northwest! Great service - consistency across the entire staff. I travel alot and have alot of Steaks in alot of restaurants and this place measures up - always. I take most visitors here as well as it is a memorable place, with great atmosphere and great food. They have a great rub to season the meat and the wood imparts a fantastic flavor to the food and smell in the restaurant. I will be writing more reviews very soon - but expect this is my #1 or #1A.

Looks like an some dive mountain bar from the outside, but lookout; this place may just serve you the best steak you ever had. I am guilty of judging a book by it's cover. Don't let the outside fool you, when it come to over the top GREAT food, this place is the real deal. Bring your American Express Gold Card though, 'cause it's going to set you back.

Let's make one thing very clear: the steak was great. The actual meal was fantastic. Our steaks were grilled to medium-rare perfection. The open grill for all guests to see is a nice touch. The baked potato and beans? Delicious. Our server, however, was a boob. In fact, he was about as awkward as a 13-year-old boy fondling his first boob. I don't know if it was Chuck's first night, or whether he really didn't like wearing that cowboy hat, but I just don't think a career in the service industry is a good idea for this kid. The first rule of good service is knowing your product. We asked him if the jalapeno poppers had cheddar or cream cheese. (We love our poppers. We're very picky about the cheese in our poppers, dammit. Don't judge!) He said 'I don't know ... there's, like, jalapeno and they're, um, deep-fried and stuff.' OK, thanks, cowboy! We were pretty sure they'd have cream cheese (because that is the standard, right?) and, boy howdy, did we ever strike it lucky. Would have been nice, though, to have a berry-based sweet sauce served alongside instead of the homemade ketchup type stuff. Poor Chuck was never really sure what was going on, though, and, God help me, I damn near snapped when he served my boyfriend's plate with his thumb planted firmly next to the steak. And then when he brought me back my credit card slip, he left me no pen from which I could draw ink for my signature. I had to go to the front desk and ask to borrow someone else's pen. For all I know about service, I'm surprised I got fired from my only waitressing job 20 years ago. Of course, it never helps to tell the manager to F off. Maybe Chuck should do that. It spurred me into great things. Anyhow, I'd love to give the Wolf Lodge another try. If only for that damn delicious hunk of cow ...

I have had SO many expensive sub-par steaks in Palm Springs that I have been practically salivating for a Wolf Lodge steak. Simply put any steak here from the lowly sirloin to the Porterhouse and Ribeye are aged and prepared perfectly-then cooked to order. Yes expensive by Idaho standards but nothing compared to places like Ruth Chris here in PS.

This was the worst experience in a long time! I used to go here when I was younger and it was amazing, but as an adult this place was just creepy and nasty! Literally the steak was the only good thing I ordered. Salad was nasty, beans were like cafeteria food, and the "fry bread" were donuts without frosting! Menu selection sucked too! I think this place is more of a hype and myth! Parking lot is very poor and not very well maintained...not a place to dress up or wear nice clothes...

No hard liquor license, so don't come thirsty for a martini before your steaks. I didn't see a bar, so don't expect to squeeze in for a quick bite without a reservation Pretty decent wine list and several choices by the glass. Entrees come with fairly plain salad, potatoes (a must in Idaho!), beans and bread. Steak is heavily seasoned, so may want to request lighter if not your thing. Steak was a nice size, but just OK in my opinion.

Best steak hands down! I moved to Spokane from Cali for grad school and got hooked on this place. Every time we had guests from Cali, we would bring them here and everyone loved the steaks here. If I could I would give this place 10 stars! It's also very unique.

Best steak ever! And i have eaten at so many steak houses from coast to coast. MAKE A RESERVATION! I eat there every year on my B-day for the last 20-25 years plus any other time I can make and excuse to spend 100 bucks on steaks for the family. The lighting is weird but that may be part of the fun. That is all.....

Good steaks but overpriced menu. Poor service and dirty eating areas. Expect long waits even if making reservations. Poor customer seating and server assignments, pure chaos. We arrived at schedule reservation time. We're seated 30 minutes later, couple that was there before us was seated after us and couple that came in 15 minutes after us was seated at the same time. Couple that was seated next to us and arrived 15 minutes after we arrived order and received drinks, appetizer and order dinner before our drink order / order was taken. Hour after arriving at the restaurant they brought our salad. First time eating at the Wolfe and the last time.

This place was recommended by our hotel as the best steakhouse in town. The steaks were raw, even after being sent back..........not to mention the steak was tough! My son ordered the cheese soup and it was horrible and tasted like Velveeta! You would think when our meal came with a LOADED bake potato that it had all the fixins............not the case. It came with butter and sour cream! We asked for cheese or cheese sauce and they said they did not have cheese! WHAT!!!!! You are kidding me......,,,you have "cheese soup" but no cheese????? Isn't Idaho the potato state! This was a scary thought for my son who ordered the soup! I would rather be attacked by a wolf, than step foot in the Wolf Lodge again! Sorry, but you get a two thumbs down!!

May not look like much from the freeway, don't be fooled- you will have a wonderful dining experience here. The steaks are some of the best you will eat, regardless of price or location. Cozy, old building with tons of character, exceptionally friendly staff and great service. When I want a steak when I'm in the Spokane area this is my choice!

This is the steakhouse you'd go to if you were a rancher looking for a giant piece of meat. I'm pretty sure people order their steak here "blue" regularly. (*shiver*) When you drive out here, you'll think your GPS is wrong. It's miles out of Coeur d'Alene on a mountain-side road next to the highway in the middle of nowhere. It's so remote that you'd expect the butcher to be out back. It kind of looks like a shack from the outside, but on a busy night, every inch of the gravel parking lot is packed. The decor is kitschy with wood shingles lining the inside of the restaurant. Servers are dressed like cowboys, and dress is pretty casual. I love a juicy steak. When I order a filet mignon medium rare, I expect it to be medium rare, and Wolf Lodge Steakhouse nailed it perfectly. The quality of meat was excellent, and it was cooked exactly the way I like it. Juicy, tender, and bloody. The seasoning was flavorful but minimal so the meat really stood out. I hate when steakhouses charge for these items ala carte, so I was happy to see everything included with your entree. Wine pours are generous, and the list is just okay. Next time, I'd consider bringing my own bottle. Our table was right next to the open fire grill (!!), so we could watch the chef. The server told us that the chef has been cooking steaks for over 27 years, so she's legit and knows her grill. Definitely call ahead to make a reservation. Even for the middle of BFE nowhere, you will need one. For quality, portion size, and value, this is the best steakhouse I've been too, and it wasn't hoity toity.

Awesome ribeye steak and very big portions. No liquor just beer and wine. Better than expected wine list.

"One of the best steak house in the Pacific North-West." How many times have you looked at a menu and saw a picture of a meal and thought "oh, that look's so yummy" then ended with up with a disappointing slab of meat on your plate?...well Wolf Lodge Steakhouse is a bazillion miles away from your typical Sizzler or Outback Steak House. On this visit I decided to have the Porter House steak (Med-Rare), Country fried potato's, baked beans, salad and a schooner of Alaskan Ale on Draft. Quoting my friend Christine: "This meal is a culinary orgasm" The steak was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy, cut after cut, bite after bite. It was a meal which I could comfortably say "Worth Every Dollar". I am not going to delve into how many times I've had steaks with an obvious taste and texture of freezer burn but sadly many over-priced steak houses serve that sad cut of meat on our plate. Wolf Lodge Steakhouse/Restaurant is far from the rest of its competition - fresh meat, good sides, nice drinks and friendly staff...it is worth the drive to get there and worth every dollar that you'll spend :) P.S. : Making a reservation the day before your visit is highly recommended.

The best rib eye I've ever had. No need for a vegetarian to try this place unless you like fried pickles (which are better than most) and beer. On a cold night it was great sitting by the fireplace. If you're not sitting by the grill, it's worth a walk into the grilling area. Get a reservation, you'd be surprised when you'll need one. If you are feeling wild and crazy . . .try the swinging steaks!

Oh my goodness! Where else can I sit on an Indian's lap while eating filet mignon and then walk out with a menu tucked under my coat because I'm three sheets to the wind and my mother is an avid menu collector? Yes! That was my night at the Wolf Lodge Inn! It appears to be a theme restaurant, but I'm not quite clear what the theme is or where they're trying to go with it. There are animal heads on the walls and life-size, leather-faced Indian dolls/manequins lounging around in chairs throughout the place. Did I mention the delicious desserts? I didn't? Well, they're there. At around $25, my perfectly-seasoned, perfectly aged Filet was one delicious deal. They had some great wines and the staff was nice and helpful even though our party of 10 or so was sloppy and irreverent. For a city girl like me, this place felt like a back-woods country kitchen, but I'm sure to the locals, it's just another schtick-y moneymaker. All in all, AWESOME. I meant to go back on my recent trip, but never made it. I can't wait to come back again!

My partner always raved about this place, and now I know why. This was quite possibly the best fillet mignon I have had in my life. Everything is cooked over an open flame. The meat is delicious, tender, and the smokey flavor makes it a culinary delight. The sides were all good. The service pretty good, especially given that it was a packed Saturday night with people standing inside and outside waiting to be seated. The atmosphere is kitsch and very North Idaho. If you are visiting Spokane or CDA, go here but make reservations before you go.

My wife and I went for dinner on December 29, 2012. Wolf Lodge has been one of our favorites for many years. We were disappointed this time. The restaurant has taken halibut off of the menu, because it's "too expensive to buy" (according to our waitress) for the restaurant. My wife ordered mahi mahi instead, which is apparently the replacement on the menu for the halibut. Mahi mahi is not a suitable replacement for halibut. If anyone from the restaurant reads this, we would have been far happier paying $45 for halibut than $26 for Mahi. Additionally, the fish was over-cooked and under-seasoned. I ordered a rib-eye steak, medium-rare. I got a boneless rib steak - not a rib eye (unless cows are a different shape now than I remember them to be), cooked medium-well (almost no pink in the whole steak). The service was fine, and we were seated almost immediately when we arrived, even though we were early for our reservation. Hopefully, this was an anomaly, and things haven't changed for the worse at Wolf Lodge. It takes a certain kind of place to prompt us to drive for an hour in the snow, past dozens and dozens of other restaurants, for dinner at a steak house. We'll go back again, because this is the first time our experience hasn't been nearly perfect. However, if this had been our first trip to the Wolf Lodge Inn, we wouldn't return again.

Nothing really special here and subpar for the price. Large portions though, if that's your thing. A smaller portion of better quality would be my liking. My baked potato was coolwarm, far from hot, and dry. Like they cooked and microwaved it. Wait staff was good, but between the 20min drive to get there, the price/quality, its just not worth it.

I LOVE THE STEAK! It is actually the only place I will pay for a steak anymore! It is that good. The best grade of meat I have ever had. they must baste it in lard! It is so moist. I wait all year to go here. I go one time, on my birthday. I get the 40oz Rancher because, well because I can.... I eat almost all of my 26 oz Porterhouse and bring the Sirloin home for breakfast, lunch and dinner the next day. It is a bit eclectic, not for everyone. But face it, this place has been here for over 50 years! It has never really changed. Don't go expecting to see everyone dressed up. It is all about the steak! Imagine a steak that you can almost cut with your fork! Yum! The seating is odd, never sure exactly where you are going to be. I love sitting at the picnic tables by the fireplace. But they have added on other areas through the years so you have a larger room with a stone wall and regular tables and chairs or a smaller area of booths.

Came with a client on a special night out. I didn't know much about it on the way in. Beautiful scenery on the drive there from Spokane, and it sorta sneaks up on ya if you don't know it's coming. It was a lot more rustic than I expected, but that is a good thing. I really dug the decor. The steaks were top notch, and they serve "swinging steaks" aka rocky mountain oysters. They taste pretty much like any other fried stuff. I found the service very good, but be sure to make reservations. It gets crowded. It's not somewhere I would go all the time but nice for a special trip out there.

Read all of the reviews and listened to the friends and so on. so we stopped and gave it a try. Bad idea. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. the trouble is they also tasted like someone covered them salt. Both were so over seasoned they were inedible. Not much else to say but that we won't be back.

OMG! On our way back from SilverWood Theme Park, we made reservations here. Wow! Cool old Biker type place... The food was fantastic! I had the Porter House Steak and it was sooo good. We will be back again and again each Summer. Nothing like driving from Seattle to Northern Idaho, enjoying the fantastic ThemePark there, come back and stop in for an excellent meal! Get reservations, you will need them, period. Glad we found this place. I just wish we had something like this in Washington :(

I didn't find this lived up to the reputation. We had dinner Sunday night and the crowd was minimal so there should not have been a problem for the staff to provide a first class experience. Our steaks arrived lukewarm and the rest of the meal was only marginal. Nothing special about the meal. The restaurant is in dire need of an update and the service was acceptable but not at the level expiated for the price that was charged. I would look elsewhere for a top notch steak house.

I have used yelp for years to find new restaurants, where to get my clothes fixed, what to do and where to go in hundreds of cities and choose to leave my very first review to, quite possibly, my favorite restaurant of all time. Maybe it's the first memories of the Wolf Lodge and their enormous steaks after fishing trips in the mountains. Maybe it's their ability to make my mouth water just thinking about their perfect medium-rare rib eye melting in my mouth. Or how they cook the steaks right in the middle of the main dining room. This isn't the fanciest restaurant by any means, and it doesn't need to be. You can be dressed up for an anniversary or coming back from a weekend of hunting in the mountains and you will get amazing, at-home, service every time. They do get busy, try coming early if you need to beat the rush. I've had some extremely overpriced steaks at fancy steakhouses but nothing has come close to Wolf Lodge. Extremely fair prices too, so I'm able to enjoy it whenever I come home! can't wait!

I visted the Wolf Lodge Inn last Friday for dinner. This place is tucked in a wooded area off of I-90 and does not look very inviting from the outside. But once you walk in, the staff is very inviting and the food is the type you'd want if you were on your way to the electric chair. I've tasted some good steaks in Tokyo, Seattle, and Vegas, and I must say Wolf Lodge Inn is right up there with some of the best steaks around. I had the Filet Mignon and Halibut combo which was absolutely NO JOKE! The Filet was tender, juicy, and very flavorful. No sauce needed. In fact, people seemed to look at you weird if you even ask. Halibut was flakey outside and tender all around. Did I forget to mention the jumbo prawns with the cajun seasoning? I'd go into detail, but my keyboard is submerged in drool... If you're ever in the Spokane area, make the 30 minute trip east to Coeur D'Alene and visit Wolf Lodge. Be sure to make reservations or come early. We arrived at 5:30pm and it was pretty packed.

Great food! The prices leave something to be desired. Shrimp kebabs were delicious but the service was s-l-o-w. We also tried the cowboy steak and the porterhouse. The dinner salads were very flavorful. Not much else there in the way of fresh veggies, though. The meals came with some delicious yeast rolls that I could have eaten more of if I wasn't so stuffed from the large portions on the meals... You definitely want to make reservations if you're going to eat dinner at Wolf Lodge Steakhouse. The tables were all full! The ambience here is worth coming for, and the food is definitely good. More of a down-home atmosphere with a fireplace in the lower dining area.

Ate here a couple of weeks back on the recommend of a local. Great, great atmosphere; good-sized portions; friendly waitstaff. Had the ribeye and a monster Moose Drool (on tap!). Will definitely stop by again. Only dings I have on it was the ribeye wasn't a particularly good one (notable amount of gristle), and the service was comically slow (best I could glean, they were understaffed for the night). Waited in the lobby far too long with no one else and open tables, waited to get drinks and order put in far too long (again, with open tables) - even getting the check was a mini-adventure in getting the waitress's attention. So, go, by all means, just expect it to be leisurely. :)

Best steak I've ever had. EVER. No arguing with me unless you have tried their steak. Soft, tender, juicy... I'd go more often if I lived closer. Restaurant is rustic and you can watch how they grill the meats in the big open fire grill. Very friendly wait staff in cowboy/girl outfits. Yee haw!

  • David H.

Looking for a great steak this is the place. Porterhouse is my choice and I always have enough left to take home for another meal the next day. Grilled shrimp skewers are a great starter along with a pint of MooseDrool. Reservations are highly recommended unless you get there right at opening and it is an out of the way place so you probably don't want to risk not having a reservation. Desserts are good, but not great, but then again I am usually so full by then it does not matter much.

Hands down some of the best steaks you'll ever have! I've been coming to Wolf Lodge since 1998 and have never had a bad experience! The steaks are always cooked perfectly, portion sizes are huge, the service is always quick and friendly, and the atmosphere is unsurpassed. If you're anywhere near Wolf Lodge, ID you need to make it a point to stop in. We come up from Spokane and it's worth the trip! Be sure to make reservations!

My ribeye was cooked just about perfectly. The atmosphere is worth the wait. I'd give this place 4 stars if they'd break the mold regarding their appetizers. I must say cheese sticks etc don't really compliment a great steak. Please, I'm begging you. Vegetables are a good thing.

We wanted to get away from North Central Washington for one weekend so I managed to coax my friend to take a trip out to Coeur D'alene with me. I enticed her by telling her about this great steakhouse I read about on Yelp where all the reviews were great. When we got there, we were both very excited. The inside decor was interesting. Very country/wildlife. I think we sat next to a stuffed cougar or something like that. The service left much to be desired. The waitress was impatient for us to order and was not very helpful in guiding us with our choices. We both ended up ordering the prime rib. The food took forever to come out. I was getting anxious, but when it finally arrived, I was ready to dig in! After one bite, something wasn't right. I tried two and three more. Holy smokes! I just realized that the wonderful flavor everyone was talking about that didn't need any steak sauce was just heavy, heavy salt! I love salty and savory flavors, but even that was too salty for me. My friend said the same thing as well. She had to smear the sour cream over her steak to make it palatable. The meat quality and the way it was cooked was fine, but the salt and seasoning they used was just overboard. I don't know if that's how people like their steak in the midwest or pacific northwest, but that's certainly not how we enjoy it. We ate our food and got out of there. I would have given this one place one star for the flavor and service, but gave it three because I could tell that it was a quality meat being prepared.

  • Joe K.

Food was great. I had the rib eye. Have no complaints about the food. I just remember waiting a long time to get seated and then the service being somewhat slow, but at the same time, the place was packed and it seemed like a madhouse. Not gonna hate, 'cause it wouldn't be packed if it sucked. It was so good, I bought a t-shirt :)

Do you like steak? Do you want to eat perhaps the best steak you will ever taste? Then if you ever find yourself anywhere near Coeur D' Alene, Idaho, this is the place to go to satisfy your urges. They age all of their steaks on their own and they cook them over a cherry wood fired grill in the middle of the restaurant*. They don't marinate them but the owner has his own secret mix of seasoning salts that he uses during the cooking process. If I had to describe these steaks with one word it would be, "Freaking phenomenal!" The steak comes with BBQ baked beans and Krebel, which is a fried bread that I've never found anywhere else. For the truly adventurous eater, they have Rocky Mountain Oysters as an appetizer. *As you can imagine, this is intoxicating and drives most people to drool excessively while waiting for the steaks to be brought to the table. Get plenty of extra napkins.

What a fun place. Gets a 5 for atmosphere and the kind service of the waiters. Gets a 4 for food. It was really excellent and fun. Don't miss the fried pickles (cut lengthwise unlike others) and the rib eye was fantastic. I have had better steak, but it was still good.

Several people said this was the best steak place in town so we went there with high hopes. The drive was beautiful and the restaurant was just the the kind I like when I want a steak, Western, cowboy style. As we walked in, I'm thinkin I just found my favorite steak restaurant and will become a frequent visitor. The server was great, a real nice guy with the full western garb. The Shrimp and Crab hot dip appetizer was very good as was the salad and rolls. One small problems three out of three steaks were way below par. I ordered the huge Porterhouse. It was cooked medium as ordered but was dry, a bit chewy and had practically no flavor (literally.) They were nice enough to replace it with the Top Sirloin which was equally bad only different. This was cooked uneven, mostly rare, some medium (I ordered medium). It was juicier than the porterhouse but so chewy I could hardly dissolve a mouthfull enough to swallow. Left most of it over. My wife said her Filet Mignon lacked flavor. The dessert was good. So, everything about the place was really great except the steak, which since it is a steak restaurant is a huge problem for me. I will give it one more try since there is so much good about the place but if I get another dry or chewy steak I won't go back.

If you are ever in Idaho go to Wolf Lodge Steakhouse! I took my parents to this place for their 19 year anniversary. Traveled all the way from Washington state to have steaks here. The best steaks ever! Ordered a medium rare 26oz porthouse special and it came out perfect! The steak just melted in my mouth. Even though the price turned out to be $121.58, it's totally worth it! Again, best steak ever!

Excellent steaks, huge servings (like two entrees was enough food for two of us to have 3 meals... granted we are lightweights but still). Trout was overdone, was the only thing that wasn't ideal. Service was awesome and the beer selection was great. Cute atmosphere and the place is absolutely huge with multiple small rooms, but they spread out the customers so it isn't noisy and doesn't seem crowded. Loved this place!

Hubby and I ate here while on a trip to CD'A to pick up our rescue Australian Shepherd. It was fabulous! Our steaks were cooked to perfection, the atmosphere was just wonderful, as was the service. Wow! Probably the best steak I have ever had. Cooked to perfection with a wonderful smokey flavor. The steaks are huge but they allow you to split it and double the sides. I would recommend reservations. The service was excellent with friendly staff.

I'm from Dallas originally and I thought I knew about having a good steak but this place surpasses any steak I have ever had!!! I have been there 3 times and every time the steak is perfectly cooked and tender as can be. I live in Spokane but drive the 35 miles to have one of their steaks. It is better than the one in Spokane. The tast and flavor of their steaks are wonderfully delicious!!

So, my folks moved to Idaho 18 years ago and being the good daughter I am I go up and visit once or twice a year. One of the requirements is a night at Wolf Lodge. It was love at first sight (or taste) of the Lil' dude. - a nice slab of meat. Mmmmm.. there is something about the way Wolf Lodge seasons its cow parts which is just so darn yummy. Folks beware, if you don't enjoy seasoning that's salty you won't enjoy this. The dishes are served with baked beans (delish) jo jos (their version of french fries - real thick potato slices) and sweet bread (awesome dipped in beans). And save room for their chocolate mousse. My god. You won't be able to eat for a week but god it's good. It's beer and wine only and there is a corking fee if you bring your own wine. Also, it's a good idea to make reservations if you plan on going Friday or Saturday.

...was in town, helping move my son & his gf to the Coeur D'Alene area from Califonia.. AND, as eluded to in previous reviews, a trip to the area must always warrant a visit to Wolf Lodge. The in-laws, son & his gf, my wife & I ate in the "pit"... Is there anywhere else to sit & savor a 5 star meal with rustic charm served with excellence to hungry steak lovers?... perfection!

(This review applies ONLY to the Wolf Lodge Inn Steakhouse in Coeur d'Alene, ID - not the one in Spokane, WA.) This restaurant has the best steaks in the world - literally. I've been all over the world and the US, and I haven't had a better steak than here! They start with wonderfully aged beef, seasoned with their "secret" spices, and cook over cherry and tamarack (right in the back of the restaurant). It's heavenly! The place itself is the picture of "rustic": old timey signs, stuffed game heads, old farm implements and more adorn the walls. It's definitely "casual". Reservations HIGHLY recommended - it's wildly popular in the summer.

Possibly the only worthwhile steakhouse in the CDA area. Not the *best* steaks or meal or courses really. Indeed, you'll have to travel for the best, and probably spend quite a bit more. But the filet mignon is very flavorful and the casual, humorous atmosphere works like a charm. Just get a reservation.

I have never ever had steak as good as what I've eaten at the Wolf Lodge. I've been there 3 times, and wish I could live closer to it so I can get there more often. Excellent steaks! I'm drooling just thinking about them...time for another trip across the mountains!!! Every time I've eaten there, I've had the rib-eye steak (my favorite cut) and it is so good that I haven't been able to bring myself to try anything else...so I can't vouch for the seafood or anything like that. Why would I want to eat seafood when I'm so close to cattle country anyway!? The atmosphere is fun but the place is busy and for good reason! If a restaurant that is this far away from EVERYTHING is always packed...there has got to be a reason! This is the only steak house I've eaten at that makes a better steak than I can make on my own grill...but I'm still working on matching them. Oh yes...I will keep trying!!!

I have lived here for 6 years and heard people rave about this place the whole time. Finally made the drive over the weekend and I will say I was impressed. People say "Oh they put tenderizer or salt on the meat". I don't care what they did to that porterhouse, it was like crack. The taste was meaty, tender, little salty and had this amazing, smoldering essence of smoke and wood. Better than Morton's and better than Ruth Chris for half the price. By the way to the people who say they shouldn't season their meat, these other places have to pour a stick of butter on their steaks so relax and let the chef do what they need to do. Disappointments are the sides as they are from the 70's. The potato is a good baked potato. The salad was pretty sorry iceberg with a piece of green pepper and a crouton. Friend had green beans with bacon. It was about a 50/50 split between the bacon and actual beans, way too over the top. I recommend it and I will go back the next time I want a steakhouse.

I've been here many times and they consistently serve the best steak I've ever had!! This place gets pretty busy and reservations are usually needed. Too bad they don't have a bar to sit at while waiting for your table.

Suuuper good and definitely worth every penny! Very casual and friendly staff. Reservations are definitely necessary. We shared the Rancher (24 oz. Porterhouse AND 16 oz. Sirloin-$43.95) plus an additional set of sides for $6.95--a great deal in comparison to steakhouses in Seattle! We were beyond full and didn't make it to the desserts. The additional sides were definitely unecessary, but still delish! The meat was cooked to perfection. My bf loved that char left on the steak. The smokey flavors from the applewood really showed through. Would love to try the rocky mountain oysters next time we're in town! :)

My boyfriend ate here years ago and had such fond memories of the place that we made a special overnight stay on our road trip just to eat here. Not being a big meat eater myself, I was leary, but willing to check it out. This place is way off the beaten path, you wouldn't find it if you didn't know about it. And thank god we had reservations, it was packed! It has a very kitschy old lodge decor, skulls, wood shingles and basically crap everywhere. And the food was delicious. They specialize in steaks of all sorts, but have a great assortment of seafood including trout, halibut, scallops, shrimp and lobster. And be prepared to eat! I had the trout, which was grilled and huge, I only made it through half. My boyfriend had the filet and loved it as much as he did the first time. You also get soup or salad, and the salad is actually field greens with vegetables, bonus points for that. Then your entree with the best baked potato I have ever had and I don't even like potatoes, plus baked beans and some oddly strange but good fried bread with honey and butter. The service was very good too. I would highly recommend it when you are in the area!
