We made reservations several weeks in advance for a group of 12. We even called the day of the dinner to confirm our reservation and special requests. We were assured everything would be set. Our table was ready but that was it. The service was terrible. I can't blame it on the server. For a Saturday in July the staffing was severly lacking. The kitchen totally screwed up several of our orders. One plate wasn't served for almost 30 minutes after the everyone else was finished. The dinning room also had a heavy smoke issue from the kitchen. Several people left or were moved upon request. We spoke to the manager who had no excuse. It was very apparent management and staffing was wasn't really important ownership. I had been here several years ago. Great food, good service and of course great view. The view is still there through the smokey kitchen. But thats it... I hope they wake up. From the looks of the comments we aren't the lone complaint.

Aging restaurant. View is amazing which the restaurant banks on. Server friendly. Drinks were ok. Food mediocre. Filets were ok but kind of flavorless. Green beans were extreme al dente to raw. Prices are premium for a sub par experience. Normally look forward to this restaurant. The weather was hot and completely overwhelmed any attempt at cooling the restaurant. It was warm to almost hot in the restaurant. Ice in the water glasses melted. Was disappointed this time

Similar to the reviews of others this place is certainly a nice place to go when your a tourist and unfamiliar with the area but not your 5 star dining experience. Being from LA I may have become a bit more critical when it comes to dining but this must be what passes in Idaho. I would say Cedars is like a cross between Black Angus and Sizzler because of the salad bar. Both my husband and I ordered the cedar plank salmon, he got it blackened and I got it with a garlic butter style. It was ok, no different than any other salmon I have had before. Most of the stars are for the surroundings on the lake with the twinkle lights - beautiful at sunset. Overall, this is about as good as it can get scenery wise but you can do better on the food.

Dinner here was a delight with great food and ambiance right out on the Coeur d'Alene Lake with fantastic views. We sat on the patio as the weather was perfect - food and service was very good and prices while a bit high were worth it.

Enjoyed taking friends from out of town to the floating restaurant. The tempura asparagus and steamers were delicious. All our food was delicious. The salmon, trout, halibut were all very good. Salad bar is very good as were the cheese biscuits. I only had two bites of my salmon because I was so full after wine, asparagus, steamers and the biscuit. It was very good the next day for my lunch. I love taking friends there but it is pricey.

Basically, I am going to start this restaurant off with a 4 because of the atmosphere and the spectacular views. It feels nice being on the lake and to show off to new visitors that come to visit. The food is decent but not rememberable and is overpriced. I do, however, love the salad bar. It reminds me of the early 1990s. They have a lot of options for toppings and the dressings are good. Also, the cheddar biscuit is my favorite thing at Cedars--go grab one when you are at the salad bar!! The steak is okay but not the best cuts. The sides they have are pretty good. Overall, it is a 4 and it deserves it. But, it is not one of my favorite restaurants because of the pricing and the lower quality cuts of meat.

This place is special because it's floating on the water and has a great view from any seat. The salad bar is great and has good variety. The prime rib is the specialty and we went with the smaller cut, which was on the thin side for me. It was well spiced and had a nice bark. You know you are in Idaho with a great baked potato. I didn't realize the cheddar biscuits were only on the salad bar and almost missed them.

Mediocre and over-priced. Service like Denny's. Seafood a notch above Long John Silvers. And don't assume the seafood is local catch. Pretty sure the salad bar was the most redeeming item we had. The so-so view in no way justifies the food. Don't bother.

I've been critical of the restaurants owned by this ownership group. Previously I had had poor experiences at Cedars too, but this is two positive experiences in row and I felt a positive review was in order. Maybe some changes have occurred in the positive. First experience was a party of three. We all shared the roast asparagus and smoked trout appetizers, would highly recommend both. I had the petit prime rib (regular, not the special) which was excellent and flavorful. To be honest I may be revealing my age in that I can't remember what dishes my friends had. I partook of the salad bar which is simple but the best in town. Our service was attentive and very friendly. A very good experience overall. Our second visit was a party of four. We both had the prime rib, which again was excellent (this was NOT the prime rib special but full price, possible a better quality), while our friends both had fish and really enjoyed it. This visit our server was friendly but a bit absent minded, but still provided adequate service. I noticed a new manager and spoke with him, think his name is Eddie. This gentleman was very personable and took an observable "hands-on" approach to management, actually walking the floor and even assisting in break down and set-up of tables. In speaking with him it became clear this is not his first trip to the rodeo, an industry professional. Maybe he is the difference we experienced at Cedars. As with previous reviews I've read, Cedars is an acceptable and enjoyable experience but the price point is pretty outrageous. For the price I'd expect an updated interior, at least cleaned and refreshed head to toe, as the dining room shows it's age in dust on the rafters. The view is one of the best in town. We'll return, but will stick to appetizers and the more reasonable items on the menu.

Yes.... It is dated. Yes, it's not chic or modern or cool. But... It's a floating restaurant with great staff and good food and the slight lake rise and fall if eating on the patio. All the food was tasty. Fish and chips. Not greasy or heavy. Prime rib done perfectly. Steam clans in a wonderful garlic butter broth. Crispy salad and fresh moist halibut. No rush eating. Server was attentive. Welcome was wonderful. Watching a duck swim by while enjoying dinner... Priceless.

I wanted to and hoped I could give a better review. Unfortunately I can't. I don't mind the decor, it is traditional and fitting for an in the water restaurant. My issue the price of the food compared to the quality. Many entrees in the high $20s and mid $30s. My expectations go up with the price! Service was fine. The prawn cocktail was very nice with large prawns. The clam chowder was rich and creamy but blah with little taste of clams. We had special of the day surf and turf and the steak was very chewy to tough.

We thought maybe the food would make up for the service-nope- out of prime rib and they substituted a sirloin- not even cooked as asked. They also should have asked me to cut into it when they brought it to the table to make sure it was cooked correctly. Clam chowder my wife ordered as average. Glad we came here for restaurant week because I would have asked for my money back if I had had for such bad food and service.

My friend and I came to Coeur D'Alene to visit one of our best friends for the week. She took us to this restaurant, which we were all very excited to try. Immediately after dinner, two of us got severe food poisoning and were vomiting all night. They've been under the weather all day today as well. We think it was their seafood that caused it. I ordered chicken and luckily didn't get sick. One of my friends ordered the steak with crab and my other friend ordered the scallops. We are quite frustrated that our last night in Coeur D'Alene ended on a bad note :/

The food seems to have gone downhill here. Our ribeyes were way overlooked. To their credit, the manager comped both of our meals when we showed her. The view from this restaurant is second to none!

Beautiful views, attentive staff, great wine selection but a totally dated restaurant with mediocre food. The restaurant looks like something from the 1970's and not in the "hip retro" type but in a "this restaurant looks dirty and worn" type of way. The views are some of the best and they have installed heaters on the patio so you can sit out there during the colder months / nights. I had the pan-seared scallops and they are "dry packed" which means they are not injected with preservatives upon harvesting. This also means though the scallops are a lot saltier and they paired the scallops with a sodium rich bacon underneath and very salty mashed potatoes and my mouth burned!!!

We come here once or twice a year while staying at Blackwell Island RV park. Usually we have a pretty good meal but this year it was a joke. We sat down and wasn't approached for about 15 mins. ( they were not very busy) we ordered the prime rib med and med rare.. The med was rare and the med was raw..After we sent back 3 times ( the chef just boiled them in ajus) the beans were tough. She didn't bother asking why all of our plates were still not even half finished..After dinner we were waiting because we wanted a box so we could bring one on the prime ribs with us but after about 20 mins we just left....poor service and bad good...

Little sickening to sit outside when the lake is choppy. Inside has a great view as well though. The crab artichoke dip was amazing, but my meal was way over cooked. Still a nice place. Desserts looked amazing, but don't they always!

Do not care about any prior mentioned out date decor but the food was a gigantic disappointment. They need to replace the entire kitchen with persons that posses some level of culinary expertise. The food we had served to us the other evening was pathetic at best. Even the prime rib looked like if had been sliced and then kept in a warming oven until it was overcooked. If you want poor service, weak drinks, raw vegetables, improperly cooked meats and grossly over priced food be sure to plan for such at ceders. So sad and a disappointment for our entire party

We were in Coeur d'Alene for a family vacation, there were 11 of us. Went there for lunch one day before 4 of us played golf. Food was good by all, however even though there was other staff there not looking busy, no one helped our server get our food to the table, so some were almost done prior to everyone getting there food. Returned for dinner another night and at least three meals were wrong, one meal didn't come and had to ask for it, by the time he got it everyone was done. Salmon was dry, Alfredo was greasy, fries and Tuna overly salty. Our server seemed to hustle and wasn't her fault as seemed like the kitchen had some major issues. It was not busy at all, so that could not be an excuse. They did comp. the meal that arrived late. Would not go back, sorry...

Location is unbeatable! Food is very good-we had lobster trout, steamed clams-all were very good. What was truly exceptional was the staff. Very friendly and interested in making your visit pleasant. Example-I left a very expensive camera, the next patrons picked it up, on their way out, they took a few pictures, one of the staff noticed it, got my camera back from them-amazing-I have a few "interesting" pictures. But the staff really makes this retaurant-the food is good and the location is really great. Would be a mistake to miss this on a visit to CDA.

5 star view with 4 star food. Gotta try their Clam Chowder! Best in town. Prime rib and salmon were great, along with the Creme Brûlée and huckleberry puff we had for dessert. Definitely will come back here for dinner. Don't know why we haven't tried this place sooner.

This is a great place for special occasions. The food is pretty good (especially the clam chowder) and the lake side scenery can't be beat. If you tend to get seasick at all, I recommend sitting in the main part of the restaurant rather than on the floating dock. Our service was excellent, but it's a bit pricey for CdA.

Went to Cedars for the second time recently. People in town always mention it as a place for a special occasion. It was a mix between am attempt at upscale vs buffet. Everything banks on the view, which is quite nice. We started with drinks, 2 off the 4 had to be sent back. Strawberry daquire tasted like fizzy water? And the sofa was flat. The server was kind and accommodating. We the ordered steak, prime rib, 2 seafood trio type deals. The prime rib was alright, the steak was good, although the patato cake was actually described as "gross" by my dining companion. Both of us eating the seafood were disappointed. I figure if your going to spend premium rates, you should get a good meal. All the food was warm, barely. I only ate part of the lobster, and gave up on the shrimp and crab cakes. I took the rest home and never ate it. That says something in itself. The other seafood orderer only ate 2 pieces of shrimp and opted pass on the rest. Surprising, since he is a good eater. Terribly disappointed in the experience. For the money, I'll head out to Churchills in Spokane next time.

We just spent our 16th wedding anniversary in Northern Idaho. The grandparents watched the kids and suggested we go to Cedars Floating Restaurant. Glad we did. The staff and manager were very friendly in welcoming us for our anniversary dinner. We made reservations and they sat us at a window seat to enjoy the view of Couer'dalene lake. I had the prime rib, which my family raves about. It was delicious and came with the incredible salad bar. This isn't your normal salad bar. It includes blue cheese, artichoke hearts and candied nuts. Yum! Hubby had the filet and it was so tendered. You also get to choose 1 of 4 ways to have it prepared. Nice touch Cheesecake with huckleberry sauce was also to die for and big enough to share. Our server was a little on the slow side filling bar orders and getting us the check, but that's just nitpicking. We watch the polite bus boy do the work of several employees very efficiently. All and all a great anniversary and we will return again on our next trip.

Wonderful on-the-water view while dining. The food is very good with excellent presentation. The staff is diligent, speedy, friendly, and everyone seems skilled at their jobs. Very nice nautical themed atmosphere. Would recommend to a friend.

The waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was not that good. The prime rib is what they are famous for. Written on the menu it goes on about how it is "marinated for hours... blah, blah, blah," so I expected the prime rib to be good. The prime rib was tough and did not have much of any flavor. I was really surprised. It's an expensive fine dining restaurant, so I expected that the food they are famous for to be good. Dining out is expensive, if I'm not impressed I won't bother to go there again and hand my money out. Not trying there again.

Nice atmosphere. Very limited bar and a decent wine list. The appetizers were creative but just so so tasting. Rack of lamb came out poorly seasoned and with a brown sauce that was overly sweet. They sprinkle Gorgonzola on the scallops, totally overpowering the delicate flavor. At this price point I expect better culinary decisions. Not terribly impressed overall, novelty restaurant.

A Hagadone owned restaurant that is located literally in the lake. This 600,000 lb floating concrete-Styrofoam restaurant offers a great viewing experience on Lake C'da!! Call ahead and ask for a window seat! In the summer they have a great outside deck that you can bounce around on and dine or drink. Pull your boat right up to the restaurant!! The food here is overall about a 3 1/2 star restaurant flavor and quality but they have some great dishes. I will start with the best. Service has usually been very good. Mixed drinks are served strong ! The breads here are excellent. Appetizer wise the baked brie is very filling and good and the only one I would order. Be careful how much you eat! The prime rib. Its always very good, cooked perfect medium-rare . The steamed veggies are excellent with it as well as the perfectly cooked baked potato. Look for early dining specials on this entrée! I love the salad bar! Fresh and delicious options! The King crab legs! OMG! Excellent!! My kids finish off the meal every time with the 6 layered chocolate cake! Yummyyyyy! And those sunsets! Breathtaking!! Now to the rest. The other appetizers like the crab artichoke dip is just missing something that makes it stand out. The calamari just not that good. The oysters on half shell, just not that tasty or very big. The shrimp cocktail, just overpriced for what you get, etc. Entrées like all the other steaks, every single time ,have not even been anywhere near the quality for the price! Seriously they need to do something to add better flavor to them. Wolf lodge blows this away. The Butternut Squash Ravioli, just doesn't do it for us, nor do the salmon or halibut dishes. They are not bad , just not special. The Seafood Pappardelle, not horrible, but worth $25? The sea scallops are decent, but once again don't stand out. Bottom line is that the dishes are decent, but this place and location are so special that I guess , for the prices, I would hope for a bit more. One FYI thing of note is that even though this place has an outstanding wine selection, but you can bring in your own bottle(or two in my case) and be charged an uncorking fee of $10 per bottle. A few times this was not even charged. In conclusion, because of the views, the atmosphere, the cool little bar area, and the better than average food experience make this a must visit on any trip through Coeur d Alene, Idaho if you don't mind spending a few bucks!

The clams and mussels were delicious!! Highly recommend. I liked the clams more than the mussels but yum! My mom loved the potato leek soup and my dad and I devoured our clam chowders with the super great bread. Hubby enjoyed the salad bar immensely. Although I bit into a shell in my soup... My halibut was worth it, but I couldn't stand the spices on the rice although my mom loved the rice so to each his own. My dads crab legs were comparable to outback, not better and not worse and about the same price. My moms salmon was amazing. Overall happy experience! Got to watch the sunset. My hubby had to send his steak back twice, super overcooked the first time and way undercooked the second time. He asked for medium.

Coming here was something I was somewhat skeptical about. Being from the Sacramento area, we have several "dockside" river type restaurants and it's usually more of a party experience, rather than a dining experience. From the minute we walked in, the skeptic feel was gone. We were quickly greeted by the hostess, and GM. I believe her name was Lynette or Lynn. Having a group of 5 other guys who had been playing golf all day, we were thirsty, and STARVING! We ordered a ton of apps, and drinks. The Huckleberry Mojito was awesome! I had no idea what a Huckleberry was, but I will have it many more times. Apps- calamari was fresh and not from a box, fried asparagus were a highlight here too!!! As I ordered the Certified Angus Beef Ribeye, I opted for the house made Clam Chowder, and it was BANGIN! Better than the Wharf in SF! And they make this stuff scratch every day. Now we get to the Cheddar Biscuits. Now I have gotten down on some Cheese Biscuits in my day, but these were euphoric! From that moment on, I knew this dinner was going to be a KEEPER! My drink was never empty and everything we could think of was brought without being asked. The ribeye came out with veggies and a real Idaho monster potato, all the fixings... It was the best. The desserts looked incredible, and I will surely get into one next time. As I will, without a doubt be back. I see some of these reviews on here and cannot understand how they are so low. Apparently there has been some management/product/menu changes from what I was told. I have four trips up to the PAC-northwest, and this was by far the best meal I have had, hands down!

Went here while on vacation, visiting my gramz, and was pleased. I was nervous because it is on the water and I get motion sickness, sure enough I did when I sat down. I had to get up and go outside prior to our food arriving, and actually switched seats with my friend so the water wasn't in my field of vision. The ambiance and view is unbeatable. The food was good and I loved the beer sampler! I tried 4 different specialty beers and picked the Tangerine Wheat for my full size. I chose the salad bar (nothing special there) and Salmon (cooked and served on a cedar plank-YUM). The salmon came with wild rice and veggies. My gramz got a complimentary scoop of Huckelberry Ice Cream (the area is known for Huckelberry-everything) because it was her birthday. I tried it and it was delicious! My gramz asked the waitres if the seafood is caught from the lake or if they serve anything from the lake, she said, "No, it's shipped in." I read, on the back of the menu, that the restaurant changed management a few times between private individuals and then was sold to a corporation. I assume at one time it was a cool privately owned restuarant but now you can feel it's owned by a corp. Overall it was a good experience but I think it is a bit overpriced.

They were great with accommodating us with a 5 top the day of, but that was about it. The bar was covered in dirty glasses to the point of absurdity. The couple at the end of the bar had to threaten the staff with telling the owner or somebody about it. they cleaned it up quickly after. It got old when Michele our waitress rolled her eyes every time I ordered or asked for anything. We only saw her take the order and bring the wine. After a $550 bill for 5 people, you'd think she would be happy about it. Lizzie the busser was amazing. to the point I gave her an extra tip for here arm personality and genuine care of our good time. The prime rib was really good. the other steaks, ny and ribeye, were very tough. The appetizer selection is terrible. 1 star for Lizzie. 1 star for prime rib. apparently it's all about the view.

I have had some great experiences there with my wife but the last time we went it was mediocre. The usual great services was down a little bit. I usually judge great service by how attentive the waiter or waitress is to the whole table. My glass of water is usually refilled by the time I even finished half the glass. This last time I had to wait about 5 minutes on a hot day to get some water. I know that the next time we go back the service will be back to its normal. The food and the view are worth the money for sure. Huge fan of their crab and love the salad bar. I think my wife could go just to eat the salad!

I grew up about 10 miles from this place and never went until this past mothers day. The restaurant floats across from the beach so you can sit on the patio and watch all the big boats and fancy jet skis go by along with a few ducks looking for some crumbs from your table. Great service, good seafood and tasty desserts with local ingredients. Mom liked it so I guess that was all that counted! I hear John Elway frequents this place so that has to tell ya something.

Have been several times this was by far the worst visit. Had to wait 20 minutes with a reservation to be seated. Had asked to be seated outside and was told seating was unavailable. The outside seating remained half full for the duration of our meal. The salad bar was a mess, (more a reflection on type of customer and letting children play at the salad bar unattended). A group at the next table had six children who kept getting out of their seats, singing,etc and the entire party kept taking flash photography of each other and their food. Common curtesy please. The clams were meh...I'll stick to Syringa's clams. The prime rib was half fat, my son asked for his Salmon extra dry, it was not cooked that way, my halibut was under cooked in the center, still translucent and my husband declared his chippino was much better. I am thankful we decided not to bring my father here when he was visiting. He would had been very vocal to management to the point of embarrassment. Waitress was ok, needed to run a comb through her hair bus person was great. I hope others gave a better experience and the food quality improves significantly. Not worth the price will not return after dining here for the last ten years.

Traveling from out of state spending time in Spokane and found this restaurant on Yelp. A Floating Restaurant on the water. Great location & ambiance. Salad bar is very good. Prime Rib and Crab are excellent. Good choice of surf & turf menu. Would recommend.

this was a really nice restaurant. we had rsvp at 6 for a party of 6 and we were promptly seated. the view was awesome! the restaurant is like an enclosed gazebo floating over water. we got there as the sun set. right when we were seated, our server immediately came by and took our drink orders. our group was a little indecisive, but our server was nice enough to give us all the time we needed. he was very patient with us =0) he kept checking on us and making sure we were ok or if we had any questions about the menu. when we were FINALLY ready to order, we started off with the crab artichoke dip. omg, it had dungeness crab in it!! yummehs =0) after we all ordered, we were given a choice of either salad bar or a cup of soup. we all chose the salad bar. it was just a small salad bar. nothing special. spinich salad, romain salad, garbanzo beans, broccoli, onion, mushroom, carrots, and dressing. their french dressing was yummy =0) as for dinner, i got the grilled prawns with mushroom risotto. good holey moley, the risotto was amazing! it was cooked perfectly and wasnt too cheesy. my prawns were good as well, but they were a little too over seasoned. like, it was a little too salty and had too much herb seasonings. but dont get me wrong though, it was still very good. i was able to get a bite of the 14oz prime rib cooked medium rare from my table and that was pretty delicious as well! after dinner, i was the only person at my table to order desert. i ordered the blueberry cheesecake. it was soooooo yummy!! i was soo full from dinner but still had to gobble up some cheesecake! i shared the cheesecake with my party and they loved it too =0) my overall experience here was very pleasant. our server and the busboys were very attentive and made sure we were all ok and took away our plates right when we were done with them. i dont remember our servers name, but he did a great job! just be careful when driving through the parkinglot. there are a LOT of bumps and dips.

It's a real bargain if you get the early bird special at $21 per meal. Our favorites (salmon and prime rib) were part of the special. Gotta try the huckleberry/sesame dressing. Nice salad bar. Good food, good service. Nice view of Lake Couer d'Alene.

I must admit that our main reason for dining at Cedars is the fact that is was opened in 1965 and buoyed by 600,000 pounds of concrete-encased styrofoam with breathtaking views of the sunset on Lake Coeur d'Alene. The food and service were a added bonus. We walked in at 4:30 pm on a Tuesday so we were fortunate to get a table by the window. We started off with a pound of Steamed Clams and Mussels in a rich leek, garlic chardonnay butter broth served with toasted foccacia. The broth was so flavorful we needed more bread to dip! We also had to try the Baked Brie. This appetizer was amazing - baked in a bread bowl and served with slices of Granny Smith apples then drizzled with honey. The honey drenched the botton of the bread that when topped with the Brie gave that sweet and salty goodness! Yum. They give you a choice of salad bar or soup with your entree and we chose the salad bar. Nice selection of spinach and lettuce mixes, olives, peas, beets, fruit, nuts, cheese, croutons and about six dressings. Now we were ready for our Prime Rib with grilled vegetables and baked potato. We also ordered a pound of Alaskan King crab legs (what can I say... we were hungry). The prime rib was a perfect medium rare and vegetables were nicely grilled. What could go wrong with king crab legs? Absolutely nothing! You get about four pieces to a pound and they cut through the shell for easy handling. We are stuffed at this point, but why stop now, right? So, we ordered a six-layer chocolate cake to go. What made our dining experience most enjoyable was of course, the view... the food and our server, Natalie. She was on point with every service aspect - friendly, knowledgeable, checked back several times and was just down right pleasant. We would definitely recommend Cedars - yes, it is a bit old and dated, but it is still worth a visit.

Walking in from the parking lot into a rustic, log cabin-styled structure, I was a bit apprehensive that this might be a touristy, lightweight place. I was pleasantly surprised. It was very good. We were a party of 4 couples - all staying at the Coeur d'Alene Resort. The courtesy van brought us over so it was a no-brainer. The menu is pretty ordinary with seafood, beef, lamb, chicken and pasta offerings at reasonable prices. My wife had the Wild Prawn Skewers ($26) and she raved about them! She loved the flavors of the seasonings and the shrimp were large and nice and plump so they had a bit of a "pop" to them when bitten. It came with wild mushroom risotto and seared green beans. She did not leave anything on her plate! I had the 10 oz. Sirloin with Alaskan King Crab Legs ($39) and I was really impressed. The beef was more tender than many NY strips I've had and it was done perfectly (medium rare) and it had a really good, beefy taste. And the crab legs were great - moist and flavorful and served with lemon and clarified butter for dipping. I was a very happy camper! The portions were plenty but it was so good, I ate all of the crab and took about half of the beef with me. And the baked potato was also good - garnished with sour cream and chives. Service was great. It's casual so don't expect refined service. It was efficient and our server was friendly, prompt and knew the menu. The other folks in our party were very happy, as well. Wow, seriously underwhelmed. We had a party of six to celebrate our new college graduate and thought Cedars might be a good choice for a semi-formal dinner. The salad bar should have been the giveaway, but it was the lack of understanding that corkage (we brought very old, special wines to accompany our meal) means the waiter brings appropriate stemware and pours for you that started to show what we were in for. The food was mediocre and grossly oversized. Every member of our party got halfway through their meal and had to box the rest. My son ordered trout and seemed unimpressed... it wasn't until I got a look at it at home that I realized it was salmon. My prime rib was okay, but easily 1/3 was fat that should have been trimmed before plating, and my wife's scallops were gritty with either sand or shell (not just one, but all). At least the view is outstanding... worthy of a second star. We like to eat well and my expectations certainly weren't set for a Michelin rated restaurant, but by any standards they charge much too much for a massive plate of disappointment. The food is worthy of only a single star. The Cedars should hire a new, better staff (front and back), cut entree size to 40% of what it is now, and keep the price the same. They'd probably make a lot more profit and pick up a few more stars in the reviews. Sorry to write a bitchy review, but we won't be back and hope this helps others make better formal dining decisions in CdA.

Had dinner on June 30, 2013! There were six of us and everyone said their food was very good! I ordered the Halibut and my husband had the Prime Rib. Both of our meals were better than we've had there before. My Halibut was cooked perfectly and had wonderful flavor. The Prime Rib was very good too! I would recommend both of those to anyone!

This place used to be the best place to get a bang-for-your-buck steak in CDA. I haven't been impressed the last few times I've gone down. The quality of the food seems to have headed downhill, while the prices have stayed the same or gone up. Great drinks and great views during the summer, but IMO it's not worth the added headache of throwing so much $$$ for so little return. If atmosphere isn't an issue Texas Roadhouse is a much better steak for the price, and Bardenay at Riverstone has comparable atmosphere/menu/drinks for a better pricepoint.

Group members complained that their seafood was not fresh and the side dishes, such as rice, potatoes, and the vegetables, were cold and mushy. My prime rib, which used to be a Cedars specialty, was essentially a slab of fatty gristle. Surprisingly, unlike all my prior visits to this restaurant, the service was extremely slow and inefficient. An 18% tip was automatically added on our check, and it certainly was not deserved. Perhaps this automatic tip encourages the poor service. The Cedars is now far overpriced for what you get and it has become a restaurant that should be avoided.

The food is mediocre - not terrible but not the freshest quality ingredients or gourmet cooking. Service is friendly but not super professional. Like all touristy places, it is fun to eat on a floating restaurant but eating outside be prepared for summer insects and an unfortunately icky abundance of spiders.

The service here is some of the worst ice ever had. It gets 2 stars for the fact that the food is delicious. They have a bunch of 16 year olds running this place and it shows. I would reccomend not trying this place unless u r already in a bad mood because the service will piss u off and ruin your day. I had to get my drinks and bread from the bus boy cuz my server was mia so the bus boy got the tip .

While they have the view going for them, service and food are not it. We went with a local (I'm from out of town) and were seated quickly without any problem. As for the food: Soup: was barely lukewarm. A hair shy of cold. Alaskan King Crab - almost cold. Paying $34 for the meal, this should be actually 'steamed' within a reasonable amount of time before being served. Prime Rib: We found out that their version of Medium Rare is well done. Not a single shade of pink of the meat at all. We had to send the meat back 2x before they admitted that they didn't have any Medium Rare cuts. This would have been fine if they told us this in the beginning or before the remainder of the party was served. By the time we found this out, the rest of the group was practically finished. We didn't get dessert, because we already had enough problems. I wouldn't care to return as I am sure there are other locations on the water that are better for the large prices they charge.

Yes.... It is dated. Yes, it's not chic or modern or cool. But... It's a floating restaurant with great staff and good food and the slight lake rise and fall if eating on the patio. All the food was tasty. Fish and chips. Not greasy or heavy. Prime rib done perfectly. Steam clans in a wonderful garlic butter broth. Crispy salad and fresh moist halibut. No rush eating. Server was attentive. Welcome was wonderful. Watching a duck swim by while enjoying dinner... Priceless.

I wanted to and hoped I could give a better review. Unfortunately I can't. I don't mind the decor, it is traditional and fitting for an in the water restaurant. My issue the price of the food compared to the quality. Many entrees in the high $20s and mid $30s. My expectations go up with the price! Service was fine. The prawn cocktail was very nice with large prawns. The clam chowder was rich and creamy but blah with little taste of clams. We had special of the day surf and turf and the steak was very chewy to tough.

We made reservations several weeks in advance for a group of 12. We even called the day of the dinner to confirm our reservation and special requests. We were assured everything would be set. Our table was ready but that was it. The service was terrible. I can't blame it on the server. For a Saturday in July the staffing was severly lacking. The kitchen totally screwed up several of our orders. One plate wasn't served for almost 30 minutes after the everyone else was finished. The dinning room also had a heavy smoke issue from the kitchen. Several people left or were moved upon request. We spoke to the manager who had no excuse. It was very apparent management and staffing was wasn't really important ownership. I had been here several years ago. Great food, good service and of course great view. The view is still there through the smokey kitchen. But thats it... I hope they wake up. From the looks of the comments we aren't the lone complaint.

Beautiful views, attentive staff, great wine selection but a totally dated restaurant with mediocre food. The restaurant looks like something from the 1970's and not in the "hip retro" type but in a "this restaurant looks dirty and worn" type of way. The views are some of the best and they have installed heaters on the patio so you can sit out there during the colder months / nights. I had the pan-seared scallops and they are "dry packed" which means they are not injected with preservatives upon harvesting. This also means though the scallops are a lot saltier and they paired the scallops with a sodium rich bacon underneath and very salty mashed potatoes and my mouth burned!!!

We come here once or twice a year while staying at Blackwell Island RV park. Usually we have a pretty good meal but this year it was a joke. We sat down and wasn't approached for about 15 mins. ( they were not very busy) we ordered the prime rib med and med rare.. The med was rare and the med was raw..After we sent back 3 times ( the chef just boiled them in ajus) the beans were tough. She didn't bother asking why all of our plates were still not even half finished..After dinner we were waiting because we wanted a box so we could bring one on the prime ribs with us but after about 20 mins we just left....poor service and bad good...

Do not care about any prior mentioned out date decor but the food was a gigantic disappointment. They need to replace the entire kitchen with persons that posses some level of culinary expertise. The food we had served to us the other evening was pathetic at best. Even the prime rib looked like if had been sliced and then kept in a warming oven until it was overcooked. If you want poor service, weak drinks, raw vegetables, improperly cooked meats and grossly over priced food be sure to plan for such at ceders. So sad and a disappointment for our entire party

We were in Coeur d'Alene for a family vacation, there were 11 of us. Went there for lunch one day before 4 of us played golf. Food was good by all, however even though there was other staff there not looking busy, no one helped our server get our food to the table, so some were almost done prior to everyone getting there food. Returned for dinner another night and at least three meals were wrong, one meal didn't come and had to ask for it, by the time he got it everyone was done. Salmon was dry, Alfredo was greasy, fries and Tuna overly salty. Our server seemed to hustle and wasn't her fault as seemed like the kitchen had some major issues. It was not busy at all, so that could not be an excuse. They did comp. the meal that arrived late. Would not go back, sorry...

My friend and I came to Coeur D'Alene to visit one of our best friends for the week. She took us to this restaurant, which we were all very excited to try. Immediately after dinner, two of us got severe food poisoning and were vomiting all night. They've been under the weather all day today as well. We think it was their seafood that caused it. I ordered chicken and luckily didn't get sick. One of my friends ordered the steak with crab and my other friend ordered the scallops. We are quite frustrated that our last night in Coeur D'Alene ended on a bad note :/

Location is unbeatable! Food is very good-we had lobster trout, steamed clams-all were very good. What was truly exceptional was the staff. Very friendly and interested in making your visit pleasant. Example-I left a very expensive camera, the next patrons picked it up, on their way out, they took a few pictures, one of the staff noticed it, got my camera back from them-amazing-I have a few "interesting" pictures. But the staff really makes this retaurant-the food is good and the location is really great. Would be a mistake to miss this on a visit to CDA.

This is a great place for special occasions. The food is pretty good (especially the clam chowder) and the lake side scenery can't be beat. If you tend to get seasick at all, I recommend sitting in the main part of the restaurant rather than on the floating dock. Our service was excellent, but it's a bit pricey for CdA.

Went to Cedars for the second time recently. People in town always mention it as a place for a special occasion. It was a mix between am attempt at upscale vs buffet. Everything banks on the view, which is quite nice. We started with drinks, 2 off the 4 had to be sent back. Strawberry daquire tasted like fizzy water? And the sofa was flat. The server was kind and accommodating. We the ordered steak, prime rib, 2 seafood trio type deals. The prime rib was alright, the steak was good, although the patato cake was actually described as "gross" by my dining companion. Both of us eating the seafood were disappointed. I figure if your going to spend premium rates, you should get a good meal. All the food was warm, barely. I only ate part of the lobster, and gave up on the shrimp and crab cakes. I took the rest home and never ate it. That says something in itself. The other seafood orderer only ate 2 pieces of shrimp and opted pass on the rest. Surprising, since he is a good eater. Terribly disappointed in the experience. For the money, I'll head out to Churchills in Spokane next time.

We just spent our 16th wedding anniversary in Northern Idaho. The grandparents watched the kids and suggested we go to Cedars Floating Restaurant. Glad we did. The staff and manager were very friendly in welcoming us for our anniversary dinner. We made reservations and they sat us at a window seat to enjoy the view of Couer'dalene lake. I had the prime rib, which my family raves about. It was delicious and came with the incredible salad bar. This isn't your normal salad bar. It includes blue cheese, artichoke hearts and candied nuts. Yum! Hubby had the filet and it was so tendered. You also get to choose 1 of 4 ways to have it prepared. Nice touch Cheesecake with huckleberry sauce was also to die for and big enough to share. Our server was a little on the slow side filling bar orders and getting us the check, but that's just nitpicking. We watch the polite bus boy do the work of several employees very efficiently. All and all a great anniversary and we will return again on our next trip.

The waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was not that good. The prime rib is what they are famous for. Written on the menu it goes on about how it is "marinated for hours... blah, blah, blah," so I expected the prime rib to be good. The prime rib was tough and did not have much of any flavor. I was really surprised. It's an expensive fine dining restaurant, so I expected that the food they are famous for to be good. Dining out is expensive, if I'm not impressed I won't bother to go there again and hand my money out. Not trying there again.

They sprinkle Gorgonzola on the scallops, totally overpowering the delicate flavor. At this price point I expect better culinary decisions. Not terribly impressed overall, novelty restaurant.

Similar to the reviews of others this place is certainly a nice place to go when your a tourist and unfamiliar with the area but not your 5 star dining experience. Being from LA I may have become a bit more critical when it comes to dining but this must be what passes in Idaho. I would say Cedars is like a cross between Black Angus and Sizzler because of the salad bar. Both my husband and I ordered the cedar plank salmon, he got it blackened and I got it with a garlic butter style. It was ok, no different than any other salmon I have had before. Most of the stars are for the surroundings on the lake with the twinkle lights - beautiful at sunset. Overall, this is about as good as it can get scenery wise but you can do better on the food.

Enjoyed taking friends from out of town to the floating restaurant. The tempura asparagus and steamers were delicious. All our food was delicious. The salmon, trout, halibut were all very good. Salad bar is very good as were the cheese biscuits. I only had two bites of my salmon because I was so full after wine, asparagus, steamers and the biscuit. It was very good the next day for my lunch. I love taking friends there but it is pricey.

Basically, I am going to start this restaurant off with a 4 because of the atmosphere and the spectacular views. It feels nice being on the lake and to show off to new visitors that come to visit. The food is decent but not rememberable and is overpriced. I do, however, love the salad bar. It reminds me of the early 1990s. They have a lot of options for toppings and the dressings are good. Also, the cheddar biscuit is my favorite thing at Cedars--go grab one when you are at the salad bar!! The steak is okay but not the best cuts. The sides they have are pretty good. Overall, it is a 4 and it deserves it. But, it is not one of my favorite restaurants because of the pricing and the lower quality cuts of meat.

A Hagadone owned restaurant that is located literally in the lake. This 600,000 lb floating concrete-Styrofoam restaurant offers a great viewing experience on Lake C'da!! Call ahead and ask for a window seat! In the summer they have a great outside deck that you can bounce around on and dine or drink. Pull your boat right up to the restaurant!! The food here is overall about a 3 1/2 star restaurant flavor and quality but they have some great dishes. I will start with the best. Service has usually been very good. Mixed drinks are served strong ! The breads here are excellent. Appetizer wise the baked brie is very filling and good and the only one I would order. Be careful how much you eat! The prime rib. Its always very good, cooked perfect medium-rare . The steamed veggies are excellent with it as well as the perfectly cooked baked potato. Look for early dining specials on this entrée! I love the salad bar! Fresh and delicious options! The King crab legs! OMG! Excellent!! My kids finish off the meal every time with the 6 layered chocolate cake! Yummyyyyy! And those sunsets! Breathtaking!! Now to the rest. The other appetizers like the crab artichoke dip is just missing something that makes it stand out. The calamari just not that good. The oysters on half shell, just not that tasty or very big. The shrimp cocktail, just overpriced for what you get, etc. Entrées like all the other steaks, every single time ,have not even been anywhere near the quality for the price! Seriously they need to do something to add better flavor to them. Wolf lodge blows this away. The Butternut Squash Ravioli, just doesn't do it for us, nor do the salmon or halibut dishes. They are not bad , just not special. The Seafood Pappardelle, not horrible, but worth $25? The sea scallops are decent, but once again don't stand out. Bottom line is that the dishes are decent, but this place and location are so special that I guess , for the prices, I would hope for a bit more. One FYI thing of note is that even though this place has an outstanding wine selection, but you can bring in your own bottle(or two in my case) and be charged an uncorking fee of $10 per bottle. A few times this was not even charged. In conclusion, because of the views, the atmosphere, the cool little bar area, and the better than average food experience make this a must visit on any trip through Coeur d Alene, Idaho if you don't mind spending a few bucks!

Cedars Floating Restaurant was rated one of the best restaurants in CDA.......... Not so much! The salad bar which was included in your meal was not edible. The lettuce was brown and the vegetables were not fresh. I walked up to the bar and took a look and promptly left with an empty plate! They offered me the soup instead and when I tried it, one spoonful was all I could do because it had soooo much sodium. When the bus boy asked why I did not eat it, I told him about the sodium and he said, I agree I had a bowl earlier...........then why are you serving it if you know there is an issue!!!!! The waitress was nice and friendly. Sorry Cedars your food is a ship wreck, not a hidden treasure!! I give this restaurant a thumbs down!!

In a word: uneven. In more words, some parts of the meal were wonderful, while others were simply disappointing. On the plus side, everyone was friendly and our server was attentive. We ordered cocktails and an Ahi appetizer when we first sat down. The Ahi was wonderful and the cocktails were well made. Our server could rattle off just about anyting from the menu or the bar by memory, and she was knowledgable about the wines. With my steak dinner I ordered a glass of wine that I had never had before, and was was very happy with the choice. The view is great too. On the down side, I will happily pay high end prices for a meal, but it creates a level of expectation for the quality of the food and skill of preparation. Cedars failed on both accounts last night. If the prices were more along the lines of $15-$25 entrees I might not be so unforgiving. However, when I order a $40 steak I expect prime cuts expertly prepared. What I received was a mediocre cut of beef over cooked. The side veggies were bland, and the potato (this is Idaho, right?) was boring. Here is my own mistake: I should have sent the steak back to be cooked properly. Instead I blindly believed that the center of the steak would be ok. I thought, "Maybe it's just the end that's overdone?" I was wrong. The steak got worse as I worked my way to the center. When our server stopped by to check on us I did mention the steak was overcooked, but I chose to keep it. I'll take the blame for that one. My date's salmon was better than my steak, but still was not perfect. Parts of it were dry, but the center was great. Again, the word "uneven" comes to mind, and I'm reminded that $35 for salmon leads me to believe the chef is proud of the quality being produced. I would disagree. At the end of the meal my date still had most of a glass of wine she wanted to finish, so I ordered a scotch and we enjoyed the view while finishing our drinks. During this time I also spent some time people watching and saw at least one other steak returned to the kitchen. I also realized just how many tables each of the servers were scrambling to keep up with. It appears to me that the place is understaffed, which may account for some of the poor service others have noted. We were there early (around 6:00pm), which seemed to help. The bottom line for me is that I'm unlikely to return, and would not recommend Cedars to anybody looking for a nice meal. If you're looking for a great meal and a nice atmosphere, then there are better choices in the CdA/Hayden/Post Falls area. If you're looking for a great view and are not too concerned about the food, then Cedars might work for you.

This used to be one of the best restaurants in the Spokane-Coeur d' Alene area. I don't know what happened to it. It is now one of the worst. On a recent visit with a large group, we were first greeted with the strong smell of sewage as we approached the front door. Then, we were seated 45 minutes after the time for our reservation. It then took another 15 minutes before our drink orders were taken. While the salad bar is still exceptional and reports on the steaks were favorable, the other food was downright poor. Group members complained that their seafood was not fresh and the side dishes, such as rice, potatoes, and the vegetables, were cold and mushy. My prime rib, which used to be a Cedars specialty, was essentially a slab of fatty gristle. Surprisingly, unlike all my prior visits to this restaurant, the service was extremely slow and inefficient. An 18% tip was automatically added on our check, and it certainly was not deserved. Perhaps this automatic tip encourages the poor service. The Cedars is now far overpriced for what you get and it has become a restaurant that should be avoided.

You go to Cedars for the experience of eating right on the lake in a floating restaurant with beautiful views. While we were there we saw a great lightning show in the mountains to the West. The food is mediocre - not terrible but not the freshest quality ingredients or gourmet cooking. Service is friendly but not super professional. Like all touristy places, it is fun to eat on a floating restaurant but eating outside be prepared for summer insects and an unfortunately icky abundance of spiders.

For dinner I had prime rib starting with a small bowl of clam chowder, the food was excellent and probably one of the best prime rib I have ever had served with mixed squash. For dessert, a yummy crème brûlée. Beautiful view of the river/lake! Service was good.

This place is special because it's floating on the water and has a great view from any seat. The salad bar is great and has good variety. The prime rib is the specialty and we went with the smaller cut, which was on the thin side for me. It was well spiced and had a nice bark. You know you are in Idaho with a great baked potato. I didn't realize the cheddar biscuits were only on the salad bar and almost missed them.

The clams and mussels were delicious!! Highly recommend. I liked the clams more than the mussels but yum! My mom loved the potato leek soup and my dad and I devoured our clam chowders with the super great bread. Hubby enjoyed the salad bar immensely. Although I bit into a shell in my soup... My halibut was worth it, but I couldn't stand the spices on the rice although my mom loved the rice so to each his own. My dads crab legs were comparable to outback, not better and not worse and about the same price. My moms salmon was amazing. Overall happy experience! Got to watch the sunset. My hubby had to send his steak back twice, super overcooked the first time and way undercooked the second time. He asked for medium.

Coming here was something I was somewhat skeptical about. Being from the Sacramento area, we have several "dockside" river type restaurants and it's usually more of a party experience, rather than a dining experience. From the minute we walked in, the skeptic feel was gone. We were quickly greeted by the hostess, and GM. I believe her name was Lynette or Lynn. Having a group of 5 other guys who had been playing golf all day, we were thirsty, and STARVING! We ordered a ton of apps, and drinks. The Huckleberry Mojito was awesome! I had no idea what a Huckleberry was, but I will have it many more times. Apps- calamari was fresh and not from a box, fried asparagus were a highlight here too!!! As I ordered the Certified Angus Beef Ribeye, I opted for the house made Clam Chowder, and it was BANGIN! Better than the Wharf in SF! And they make this stuff scratch every day. Now we get to the Cheddar Biscuits. Now I have gotten down on some Cheese Biscuits in my day, but these were euphoric! From that moment on, I knew this dinner was going to be a KEEPER! My drink was never empty and everything we could think of was brought without being asked. The ribeye came out with veggies and a real Idaho monster potato, all the fixings... It was the best. The desserts looked incredible, and I will surely get into one next time. As I will, without a doubt be back. I see some of these reviews on here and cannot understand how they are so low. Apparently there has been some management/product/menu changes from what I was told. I have four trips up to the PAC-northwest, and this was by far the best meal I have had, hands down!

I grew up about 10 miles from this place and never went until this past mothers day. The restaurant floats across from the beach so you can sit on the patio and watch all the big boats and fancy jet skis go by along with a few ducks looking for some crumbs from your table. Great service, good seafood and tasty desserts with local ingredients. Mom liked it so I guess that was all that counted! I hear John Elway frequents this place so that has to tell ya something.

Went here while on vacation, visiting my gramz, and was pleased. I was nervous because it is on the water and I get motion sickness, sure enough I did when I sat down. I had to get up and go outside prior to our food arriving, and actually switched seats with my friend so the water wasn't in my field of vision. The ambiance and view is unbeatable. The food was good and I loved the beer sampler! I tried 4 different specialty beers and picked the Tangerine Wheat for my full size. I chose the salad bar (nothing special there) and Salmon (cooked and served on a cedar plank-YUM). The salmon came with wild rice and veggies. My gramz got a complimentary scoop of Huckelberry Ice Cream (the area is known for Huckelberry-everything) because it was her birthday. I tried it and it was delicious! My gramz asked the waitres if the seafood is caught from the lake or if they serve anything from the lake, she said, "No, it's shipped in." I read, on the back of the menu, that the restaurant changed management a few times between private individuals and then was sold to a corporation. I assume at one time it was a cool privately owned restuarant but now you can feel it's owned by a corp. Overall it was a good experience but I think it is a bit overpriced.

They were great with accommodating us with a 5 top the day of, but that was about it. The bar was covered in dirty glasses to the point of absurdity. The couple at the end of the bar had to threaten the staff with telling the owner or somebody about it. they cleaned it up quickly after. It got old when Michele our waitress rolled her eyes every time I ordered or asked for anything. We only saw her take the order and bring the wine. After a $550 bill for 5 people, you'd think she would be happy about it. Lizzie the busser was amazing. to the point I gave her an extra tip for here arm personality and genuine care of our good time. The prime rib was really good. the other steaks, ny and ribeye, were very tough. The appetizer selection is terrible. 1 star for Lizzie. 1 star for prime rib. apparently it's all about the view.

I have had some great experiences there with my wife but the last time we went it was mediocre. The usual great services was down a little bit. I usually judge great service by how attentive the waiter or waitress is to the whole table. My glass of water is usually refilled by the time I even finished half the glass. This last time I had to wait about 5 minutes on a hot day to get some water. I know that the next time we go back the service will be back to its normal. The food and the view are worth the money for sure. Huge fan of their crab and love the salad bar. I think my wife could go just to eat the salad!

Have been several times this was by far the worst visit. Had to wait 20 minutes with a reservation to be seated. Had asked to be seated outside and was told seating was unavailable. The outside seating remained half full for the duration of our meal. The salad bar was a mess, (more a reflection on type of customer and letting children play at the salad bar unattended). A group at the next table had six children who kept getting out of their seats, singing,etc and the entire party kept taking flash photography of each other and their food. Common curtesy please. The clams were meh...I'll stick to Syringa's clams. The prime rib was half fat, my son asked for his Salmon extra dry, it was not cooked that way, my halibut was under cooked in the center, still translucent and my husband declared his chippino was much better. I am thankful we decided not to bring my father here when he was visiting. He would had been very vocal to management to the point of embarrassment. Waitress was ok, needed to run a comb through her hair bus person was great. I hope others gave a better experience and the food quality improves significantly. Not worth the price will not return after dining here for the last ten years.

this was a really nice restaurant. we had rsvp at 6 for a party of 6 and we were promptly seated. the view was awesome! the restaurant is like an enclosed gazebo floating over water. we got there as the sun set. right when we were seated, our server immediately came by and took our drink orders. our group was a little indecisive, but our server was nice enough to give us all the time we needed. he was very patient with us =0) he kept checking on us and making sure we were ok or if we had any questions about the menu. when we were FINALLY ready to order, we started off with the crab artichoke dip. omg, it had dungeness crab in it!! yummehs =0) after we all ordered, we were given a choice of either salad bar or a cup of soup. we all chose the salad bar. it was just a small salad bar. nothing special. spinich salad, romain salad, garbanzo beans, broccoli, onion, mushroom, carrots, and dressing. their french dressing was yummy =0) as for dinner, i got the grilled prawns with mushroom risotto. good holey moley, the risotto was amazing! it was cooked perfectly and wasnt too cheesy. my prawns were good as well, but they were a little too over seasoned. like, it was a little too salty and had too much herb seasonings. but dont get me wrong though, it was still very good. i was able to get a bite of the 14oz prime rib cooked medium rare from my table and that was pretty delicious as well! after dinner, i was the only person at my table to order desert. i ordered the blueberry cheesecake. it was soooooo yummy!! i was soo full from dinner but still had to gobble up some cheesecake! i shared the cheesecake with my party and they loved it too =0) my overall experience here was very pleasant. our server and the busboys were very attentive and made sure we were all ok and took away our plates right when we were done with them. i dont remember our servers name, but he did a great job! just be careful when driving through the parkinglot. there are a LOT of bumps and dips.

The service here is some of the worst ice ever had. It gets 2 stars for the fact that the food is delicious. They have a bunch of 16 year olds running this place and it shows. I would reccomend not trying this place unless u r already in a bad mood because the service will piss u off and ruin your day. I must admit that our main reason for dining at Cedars is the fact that is was opened in 1965 and buoyed by 600,000 pounds of concrete-encased styrofoam with breathtaking views of the sunset on Lake Coeur d'Alene. The food and service were a added bonus. We walked in at 4:30 pm on a Tuesday so we were fortunate to get a table by the window. We started off with a pound of Steamed Clams and Mussels in a rich leek, garlic chardonnay butter broth served with toasted foccacia. The broth was so flavorful we needed more bread to dip! We also had to try the Baked Brie. This appetizer was amazing - baked in a bread bowl and served with slices of Granny Smith apples then drizzled with honey. The honey drenched the botton of the bread that when topped with the Brie gave that sweet and salty goodness! Yum. They give you a choice of salad bar or soup with your entree and we chose the salad bar. Nice selection of spinach and lettuce mixes, olives, peas, beets, fruit, nuts, cheese, croutons and about six dressings. Now we were ready for our Prime Rib with grilled vegetables and baked potato. We also ordered a pound of Alaskan King crab legs (what can I say... we were hungry). The prime rib was a perfect medium rare and vegetables were nicely grilled. What could go wrong with king crab legs? Absolutely nothing! You get about four pieces to a pound and they cut through the shell for easy handling. We are stuffed at this point, but why stop now, right? So, we ordered a six-layer chocolate cake to go. What made our dining experience most enjoyable was of course, the view... the food and our server, Natalie. She was on point with every service aspect - friendly, knowledgeable, checked back several times and was just down right pleasant. We would definitely recommend Cedars - yes, it is a bit old and dated, but it is still worth a visit.

Walking in from the parking lot into a rustic, log cabin-styled structure, I was a bit apprehensive that this might be a touristy, lightweight place. I was pleasantly surprised. It was very good. We were a party of 4 couples - all staying at the Coeur d'Alene Resort. The courtesy van brought us over so it was a no-brainer. The menu is pretty ordinary with seafood, beef, lamb, chicken and pasta offerings at reasonable prices. My wife had the Wild Prawn Skewers ($26) and she raved about them! She loved the flavors of the seasonings and the shrimp were large and nice and plump so they had a bit of a "pop" to them when bitten. It came with wild mushroom risotto and seared green beans. She did not leave anything on her plate! I had the 10 oz. Sirloin with Alaskan King Crab Legs ($39) and I was really impressed. The beef was more tender than many NY strips I've had and it was done perfectly (medium rare) and it had a really good, beefy taste. And the crab legs were great - moist and flavorful and served with lemon and clarified butter for dipping. I was a very happy camper! The portions were plenty but it was so good, I ate all of the crab and took about half of the beef with me. And the baked potato was also good - garnished with sour cream and chives. Service was great. It's casual so don't expect refined service. It was efficient and our server was friendly, prompt and knew the menu. The other folks in our party were very happy, as well. Even the van driver was a hoot! We got a little background and history about the resort on the way back! What's not to like???? Jim

Wow, seriously underwhelmed. We had a party of six to celebrate our new college graduate and thought Cedars might be a good choice for a semi-formal dinner. The salad bar should have been the giveaway, but it was the lack of understanding that corkage (we brought very old, special wines to accompany our meal) means the waiter brings appropriate stemware and pours for you that started to show what we were in for. The food was mediocre and grossly oversized. Every member of our party got halfway through their meal and had to box the rest. My son ordered trout and seemed unimpressed... it wasn't until I got a look at it at home that I realized it was salmon. My prime rib was okay, but easily 1/3 was fat that should have been trimmed before plating, and my wife's scallops were gritty with either sand or shell (not just one, but all). At least the view is outstanding... worthy of a second star. We like to eat well and my expectations certainly weren't set for a Michelin rated restaurant, but by any standards they charge much too much for a massive plate of disappointment. The food is worthy of only a single star. The Cedars should hire a new, better staff (front and back), cut entree size to 40% of what it is now, and keep the price the same. They'd probably make a lot more profit and pick up a few more stars in the reviews. Sorry to write a bitchy review, but we won't be back and hope this helps others make better formal dining decisions in CdA.

Had dinner on June 30, 2013! There were six of us and everyone said their food was very good! I ordered the Halibut and my husband had the Prime Rib. Both of our meals were better than we've had there before. My Halibut was cooked perfectly and had wonderful flavor. The Prime Rib was very good too! I would recommend both of those to anyone!

This place used to be the best place to get a bang-for-your-buck steak in CDA. I haven't been impressed the last few times I've gone down. The quality of the food seems to have headed downhill, while the prices have stayed the same or gone up. Great drinks and great views during the summer, but IMO it's not worth the added headache of throwing so much $$$ for so little return. If atmosphere isn't an issue Texas Roadhouse is a much better steak for the price, and Bardenay at Riverstone has comparable atmosphere/menu/drinks for a better pricepoint.

I've been critical of the restaurants owned by this ownership group. Previously I had had poor experiences at Cedars too, but this is two positive experiences in row and I felt a positive review was in order. Maybe some changes have occurred in the positive. First experience was a party of three. We all shared the roast asparagus and smoked trout appetizers, would highly recommend both. I had the petit prime rib (regular, not the special) which was excellent and flavorful. To be honest I may be revealing my age in that I can't remember what dishes my friends had. I partook of the salad bar which is simple but the best in town. Our service was attentive and very friendly. A very good experience overall. Our second visit was a party of four. We both had the prime rib, which again was excellent (this was NOT the prime rib special but full price, possible a better quality), while our friends both had fish and really enjoyed it. This visit our server was friendly but a bit absent minded, but still provided adequate service. I noticed a new manager and spoke with him, think his name is Eddie. This gentleman was very personable and took an observable "hands-on" approach to management, actually walking the floor and even assisting in break down and set-up of tables. In speaking with him it became clear this is not his first trip to the rodeo, an industry professional. Maybe he is the difference we experienced at Cedars. As with previous reviews I've read, Cedars is an acceptable and enjoyable experience but the price point is pretty outrageous. For the price I'd expect an updated interior, at least cleaned and refreshed head to toe, as the dining room shows it's age in dust on the rafters. The view is one of the best in town. We'll return, but will stick to appetizers and the more reasonable items on the menu.

Beautiful view, outdoor, indoor and bar seating. Menu is pricey, but diverse. Loved the sea scallops in a gorgonzola sauce, served with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans. Biergarten Filet Mignon was also prepared perfectly and the volcano chocolate desert was excellent! Attentive service and overall an enjoyable dining experience.

The food was good, not great. I was led to expect a four or five star experience. Maybe three stars is about it. The floating dining room was nice, boats and sea dooers passing while we ate. The prime rib was plenty good, but I have had better at a more competitive price. The adult libations were not frosty, I like my beer very cold, the Coors bottle was only cold. All in all a fairly good joint.

Made reservations here a week in advance for a group of 4, and a birthday dinner. Thought it would be a great place on Nov 25th because of the Christmas lighting ceremony, and we had never seen the ceremony, so it was gonna be great. When we arrived at 6, it was dark, and the ceremony was to begin soon... but we were told that there we no tables available because people have been sitting for a few hours so they can watch the show. We stressed that we had reservations, but we were told "sorry" and that it might be 30-45 mins before we get a table, which to me, was super awesome because then we would miss the ceremony. After about a 15 min wait, I told the, what appeared to be a 16 y/o girl at the podium, that we were going somewhere else. She responded "sorry", and said nothing else. We went and had a great meal at Texas Roadhouse, and they saved the evening. Cedars is owned by the Haggadone Corp, which owns many restaurants in the area, as well as the resort... has really gone down hill in recent years. They charge high rates and pay their people peanuts, and I'm not quite sure their business plan anymore. I sent a letter about this crappy service to both the food and beverage manager, and the restaurant manager, and the only response I got was an email chock full of misspellings almost a month later, from the restaurant manager. It was basically nothing but excuses, but he did offer to make sure I get a window seat if I give them a second chance. WOW! That's super. They just don't get it do they? They own Cedars, the Beach House, Bonsai, Dockside, Beverly's, and Tito Macaronis. I think they have lost their edge. The food at all of them is overpriced, mediocre at best,l and obviously the customer service is falling fast. I have visited at least 1 of these restaurants every month for a long time... but that was my last visit to any of them. It's too bad... the old man might still have to custom build another boat someday to feature on some TV show... and he might not have the money. Oh well, he might have to double the price he charges for a bottle of Bud Light up from $7. Good luck with that. Your snooty old friends are gonna die off some day, then who's gonna come in?

Can I sum this up by saying eh? I really wanted to enjoy my visit to Cedar's and nothing went wrong to disappoint. The food was decent, the service was good, and being on the water was nice. However, I just got the feeling that something was missing from the overall experience. Can it be that Cedars is over-hyped for first-time visitors to the area with all the talk of fantastic food, needing reservations etc...? One positive note: our server was kind enough to point out that there were lots of kid-friendly items on the salad bar, which made a big difference for our almost one year old.

Floating on a lake in Idaho is not everyone's idea of a good time. It was not exactly bad, but ... We had trout, wine, and vegetable sides served with competence, not compassion. I think that the place survives on its great location, loyal patrons, and simply b/c it's one of the few places in the area were you can be so close to the lake. The staff were nice to us, but others seemed to be pushing drinks on a table next to ours. Come here for the experience. It will be memorable.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, great views and what not. I can sit on the beach for a great view. I want some great food. To me, Cedars is good, but not as good as it thinks it is. A pound of steamed mussels floated in a delicious broth of garlic, butter and herbs. Don't get me wrong, they were delicious, but I like it when they're held over the broth via some sort of strainer rather than submerged. I'm a health nut, what can I say? I ordered the special which was some sort of ginger/citrus glazed halibut. The glaze was very light, which allowed the flavor of the fish to really shine through. But if you like your seasonings/sauces to really pop, you wouldn't like it. The steamed asparagus wasn't great. My favorite parts of the meal were the rice and salad bar. The rice was short-grained, naturally sweet and almost like a risotto. The salad bar was fresh with a ton of great toppings and dressings to chose from. So you may be wondering why I said it's not as good as it thinks it is when I just gave the food great reviews. Well, at $12 for the mussels and $29 for the halibut, it was a little overpriced. I've had MUCH better food that simply blew me away for cheaper prices in downtown Cleveland (thank you Michael Symon!) It would get five stars if the costs were about 2/3 what they are. I guess you pay a premium for the view.

I am not a Coer d'Alene local, but stopped in at the Cedars Floating Restaurant while driving to Seattle. I had an excellent experience at the restaurant. I had a great tuna fillet that was cooked to perfection. My brother had the salmon which he thought was great as well. The wine selection was very good too and not that expensive. The salad bar was nice to have but the ingredients were pretty average. If you're in Coeur d'Alene then Cedars is worth a look for the food and the spectacular view.

The food was great. That's the only nice thing I can say... The reason why it got a one star was that we went there with a party of 7 and the acoustics in the room were so bad that you could not hear the person sitting across the table from you. We kept having to yell to be heard and even with that we were still only able to hear about half of what people were saying. We all ordered cocktails from the list which had no prices thinking they would be $5 - $10 but ohhh noooo... We found out when the bill came they were $17 to $20!!! Were we suppose to keep the glasses? Our waiter was very nice, everyone loved their dishes and we were seated within 10 minutes without reservations but we could just not get over the drink surprise and the volume level.

This place is terrible. I called the place a week and a half in advanced and talked to the manager. I told them I was proposing to my girlfriend and the manager Eddie promised me A corner seat which was a romantic seat a little more private then the rest of the seating due to its position. I called their yesterday a few minutes after they opened to make sure that everything was a go and that the seat would be available to me still and my reservation time was correct. The supervisor in charge said indeed it was and that they were expecting me. So I arrive from Spokane at their place only to find out that the seat was taken by someone else and that they do not guarantee seating after I was told in plain English that the seat was going to be mine by two people in charge. I left the place and had a romantic night at Clinkerdaggers in Spokane instead. No sense in giving hard earned cash to liars. To top it all off there was a screaming baby next to our so called romantic random seating they gave us. Do yourself a favor and buy an expensive steak somewhere with a little more class and respect!

The food wasn't great. The clam and mussel appetizer was over cooked. It was like trying to eat rubber bands. The wild rice was mushy and sticky. The vegetables were over cooked and mushy. There is a nice view but not worth the bad food. The server couldn't get the drink order right and had to be found because he forgot to bring the drinks.

First off, don't beleive the google map on here. This is off Hwy 95 and the marina drive and across the lake from town. Road into the place is a little hilly and 15mph is max. I arrived about 6pm with no reservations and found close parking. 15-20 cars in the parking lot. Walk down the ramp to the restaurant to some very nice decor. Hostess station right at the front, very nice hostess at the station. Dinner for 1 please, it will be a couple minutes. About 30 people in the rest which looks to seat 100+ inside and that many outside. Low noise level. I ask about a bar and am led to it. Sit and order Tanqueray Gin & Tonic. Drink arrives right away and so does hostess and it is time to be seated. Would I like to eat at the bar? I ask to sit outside, virtually empty outside in nice weather, slight wind @ 3-5 knots, tad chilly at times but not bad. Amazing views. Waitress brings menus, Huge wine list but $10+ a glass, comes back 3 minutes later and I order 16oz. Ribeye and 10oz. Lobster (not on the menu but that was what I felt like, no problem she says). Smashed red potatoes and clam chowder. Off she goes, busboy brings chowder and bread few minutes later, very tasty and firm clams and potatoes in creamy sauce (rating:8/10.) Ask busboy about smoking outside on the dock, he doesn't know but will ask, I tell him not to bother as it is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission, no one else outside except me. Go have a smoke on one of the two floating boat docks well away from seating, amazing view and ambiance. Waitress returns 10 minutes later with massive rib eye and two lobster tails, says the cook added another as he thought it was too small, at least 14oz total. Steak: was 8.5/10 and cooked med to perfection, Lobster: was a touch undercooked for my taste but I usually order everything well except Rib eye Stks , great flavor 7.5/10, taters: 8/10 w/ great flavor, veggies: perfect texture, good flavor 8/10. Another G & T, busboy checks on me every 5-10 min but not intrusive, just comes outside and is only a remark away. Waitress brings check, no hurry she says and I believe her. I ask for black coffee and it is fresh? Oh yes, says she. Takes check and comes back with coffee. Deliciously fresh 9.5/10. They must have a machine it is so fresh and tasty. Ask for take home box as I only ate 1 lob tail, 1/3 of steak and taters and waitress brings back classy waxed CB box, perfect for this price range. Waitress comes back 10 min later as I finish coffee. Is that all or can I get blah blah, "No thank you, that does it" and I get the check, pay by credit card and ask for itemized receipt. No problem,, she comes back, I sign and exit. Place has filled up in the last 40 minutes, about 3/4 full and only 10 minutes to 7pm. Bit noisier but not overwhelming. All in all 8/10 for ambiance, food and service. Only saw waitress 5-6 times total and busboy every 10 minutes or so. Ribeye w/ 1/2 Lobster tail: $69 coffee: $2.30 2 Tanqueray G&T: $11.50 sub: $82.80 Tax: $4.97 Total: $87.77 Tip: $15.00 cash. Service, 7/10 Food, 8/10 Price, 6.5/10 overall, 7/10 Will go back! A little pricey but I'm sure one could eat and have a cocktail for well under $50 pp if on a budget and be very satisfied with it. I felt like a steak and lobster and damn the price. I think the service was a bit below par but the busboy was diligent about being around unobtrusively. I probably should have tipped $10 but wanted him to get a bit more. Cedars Floating Restaurant - that's right, you walk down a ramp, over a dock and into the floating restaurant. The unmatched views makes the ambiance very special. This landmark restaurant is located where the Spokane River enters Lake Cda. You can come by boat and tie up on the dock. Weather permitting, I choose to dine outside. Oh yeah, the food is really good as well. Aged steaks, seafood and pasta. I like the cedar plank salmon and the crusty bread they bring prior to your meal. Great wine list with nice selection of regional wines.

While they have the view going for them, service and food are not it. We went with a local (I'm from out of town) and were seated quickly without any problem. As for the food: Soup: was barely lukewarm. A hair shy of cold. Alaskan King Crab - almost cold. Paying $34 for the meal, this should be actually 'steamed' within a reasonable amount of time before being served. Prime Rib: We found out that their version of Medium Rare is well done. Not a single shade of pink of the meat at all. We had to send the meat back 2x before they admitted that they didn't have any Medium Rare cuts. This would have been fine if they told us this in the beginning or before the remainder of the party was served. By the time we found this out, the rest of the group was practically finished. We didn't get dessert, because we already had enough problems. I wouldn't care to return as I am sure there are other locations on the water that are better for the large prices they charge.

This place is special because it's floating on the water and has a great view from any seat. The salad bar is great and has good variety. The prime rib is the specialty and we went with the smaller cut, which was on the thin side for me. It was well spiced and had a nice bark. You know you are in Idaho with a great baked potato. I didn't realize the cheddar biscuits were only on the salad bar and almost missed them.

Similar to the reviews of others this place is certainly a nice place to go when your a tourist and unfamiliar with the area but not your 5 star dining experience. Being from LA I may have become a bit more critical when it comes to dining but this must be what passes in Idaho. I would say Cedars is like a cross between Black Angus and Sizzler because of the salad bar. Both my husband and I ordered the cedar plank salmon, he got it blackened and I got it with a garlic butter style. It was ok, no different than any other salmon I have had before. Most of the stars are for the surroundings on the lake with the twinkle lights - beautiful at sunset. Overall, this is about as good as it can get scenery wise but you can do better on the food.

Dinner here was a delight with great food and ambiance right out on the Coeur d'Alene Lake with fantastic views. We sat on the patio as the weather was perfect - food and service was very good and prices while a bit high were worth it.

Enjoyed taking friends from out of town to the floating restaurant. The tempura asparagus and steamers were delicious. All our food was delicious. The salmon, trout, halibut were all very good. Salad bar is very good as were the cheese biscuits. I only had two bites of my salmon because I was so full after wine, asparagus, steamers and the biscuit. It was very good the next day for my lunch. I love taking friends there but it is pricey.

Basically, I am going to start this restaurant off with a 4 because of the atmosphere and the spectacular views. It feels nice being on the lake and to show off to new visitors that come to visit. The food is decent but not rememberable and is overpriced. I do, however, love the salad bar. It reminds me of the early 1990s. They have a lot of options for toppings and the dressings are good. Also, the cheddar biscuit is my favorite thing at Cedars--go grab one when you are at the salad bar!! The steak is okay but not the best cuts. The sides they have are pretty good. Overall, it is a 4 and it deserves it. But, it is not one of my favorite restaurants because of the pricing and the lower quality cuts of meat.

A Hagadone owned restaurant that is located literally in the lake. This 600,000 lb floating concrete-Styrofoam restaurant offers a great viewing experience on Lake C'da!! Call ahead and ask for a window seat! In the summer they have a great outside deck that you can bounce around on and dine or drink. Pull your boat right up to the restaurant!! The food here is overall about a 3 1/2 star restaurant flavor and quality but they have some great dishes. I will start with the best. Service has usually been very good. Mixed drinks are served strong ! The breads here are excellent. Appetizer wise the baked brie is very filling and good and the only one I would order. Be careful how much you eat! The prime rib. Its always very good, cooked perfect medium-rare . The steamed veggies are excellent with it as well as the perfectly cooked baked potato. Look for early dining specials on this entrée! I love the salad bar! Fresh and delicious options! The King crab legs! OMG! Excellent!! My kids finish off the meal every time with the 6 layered chocolate cake! Yummyyyyy! And those sunsets! Breathtaking!! Now to the rest. The other appetizers like the crab artichoke dip is just missing something that makes it stand out. The calamari just not that good. The oysters on half shell, just not that tasty or very big. The shrimp cocktail, just overpriced for what you get, etc. Entrées like all the other steaks, every single time ,have not even been anywhere near the quality for the price! Seriously they need to do something to add better flavor to them. Wolf lodge blows this away. The Butternut Squash Ravioli, just doesn't do it for us, nor do the salmon or halibut dishes. They are not bad , just not special. The Seafood Pappardelle, not horrible, but worth $25? The sea scallops are decent, but once again don't stand out. Bottom line is that the dishes are decent, but this place and location are so special that I guess , for the prices, I would hope for a bit more. One FYI thing of note is that even though this place has an outstanding wine selection, but you can bring in your own bottle(or two in my case) and be charged an uncorking fee of $10 per bottle. A few times this was not even charged. In conclusion, because of the views, the atmosphere, the cool little bar area, and the better than average food experience make this a must visit on any trip through Coeur d Alene, Idaho if you don't mind spending a few bucks!

The clams and mussels were delicious!! Highly recommend. I liked the clams more than the mussels but yum! My mom loved the potato leek soup and my dad and I devoured our clam chowders with the super great bread. Hubby enjoyed the salad bar immensely. Although I bit into a shell in my soup... My halibut was worth it, but I couldn't stand the spices on the rice although my mom loved the rice so to each his own. My dads crab legs were comparable to outback, not better and not worse and about the same price. My moms salmon was amazing. Overall happy experience! Got to watch the sunset. My hubby had to send his steak back twice, super overcooked the first time and way undercooked the second time. He asked for medium.

Coming here was something I was somewhat skeptical about. Being from the Sacramento area, we have several "dockside" river type restaurants and it's usually more of a party experience, rather than a dining experience. From the minute we walked in, the skeptic feel was gone. We were quickly greeted by the hostess, and GM. I believe her name was Lynette or Lynn. Having a group of 5 other guys who had been playing golf all day, we were thirsty, and STARVING! We ordered a ton of apps, and drinks. The Huckleberry Mojito was awesome! I had no idea what a Huckleberry was, but I will have it many more times. Apps- calamari was fresh and not from a box, fried asparagus were a highlight here too!!! As I ordered the Certified Angus Beef Ribeye, I opted for the house made Clam Chowder, and it was BANGIN! Better than the Wharf in SF! And they make this stuff scratch every day. Now we get to the Cheddar Biscuits. Now I have gotten down on some Cheese Biscuits in my day, but these were euphoric! From that moment on, I knew this dinner was going to be a KEEPER! My drink was never empty and everything we could think of was brought without being asked. The ribeye came out with veggies and a real Idaho monster potato, all the fixings... It was the best. The desserts looked incredible, and I will surely get into one next time. As I will, without a doubt be back. I see some of these reviews on here and cannot understand how they are so low. Apparently there has been some management/product/menu changes from what I was told. I have four trips up to the PAC-northwest, and this was by far the best meal I have had, hands down!

I grew up about 10 miles from this place and never went until this past mothers day. The restaurant floats across from the beach so you can sit on the patio and watch all the big boats and fancy jet skis go by along with a few ducks looking for some crumbs from your table. Great service, good seafood and tasty desserts with local ingredients. Mom liked it so I guess that was all that counted! I hear John Elway frequents this place so that has to tell ya something.

Have been several times this was by far the worst visit. Had to wait 20 minutes with a reservation to be seated. Had asked to be seated outside and was told seating was unavailable. The outside seating remained half full for the duration of our meal. The salad bar was a mess, (more a reflection on type of customer and letting children play at the salad bar unattended). A group at the next table had six children who kept getting out of their seats, singing,etc and the entire party kept taking flash photography of each other and their food. Common curtesy please. The clams were meh...I'll stick to Syringa's clams. The prime rib was half fat, my son asked for his Salmon extra dry, it was not cooked that way, my halibut was under cooked in the center, still translucent and my husband declared his chippino was much better. I am thankful we decided not to bring my father here when he was visiting. He would had been very vocal to management to the point of embarrassment. Waitress was ok, needed to run a comb through her hair bus person was great. I hope others gave a better experience and the food quality improves significantly. Not worth the price will not return after dining here for the last ten years.

this was a really nice restaurant. we had rsvp at 6 for a party of 6 and we were promptly seated. the view was awesome! the restaurant is like an enclosed gazebo floating over water. we got there as the sun set. right when we were seated, our server immediately came by and took our drink orders. our group was a little indecisive, but our server was nice enough to give us all the time we needed. he was very patient with us =0) he kept checking on us and making sure we were ok or if we had any questions about the menu. when we were FINALLY ready to order, we started off with the crab artichoke dip. omg, it had dungeness crab in it!! yummehs =0) after we all ordered, we were given a choice of either salad bar or a cup of soup. we all chose the salad bar. it was just a small salad bar. nothing special. spinich salad, romain salad, garbanzo beans, broccoli, onion, mushroom, carrots, and dressing. their french dressing was yummy =0) as for dinner, i got the grilled prawns with mushroom risotto. good holey moley, the risotto was amazing! it was cooked perfectly and wasnt too cheesy. my prawns were good as well, but they were a little too over seasoned. like, it was a little too salty and had too much herb seasonings. but dont get me wrong though, it was still very good. i was able to get a bite of the 14oz prime rib cooked medium rare from my table and that was pretty delicious as well! after dinner, i was the only person at my table to order desert. i ordered the blueberry cheesecake. it was soooooo yummy!! i was soo full from dinner but still had to gobble up some cheesecake! i shared the cheesecake with my party and they loved it too =0) my overall experience here was very pleasant. our server and the busboys were very attentive and made sure we were all ok and took away our plates right when we were done with them. i dont remember our servers name, but he did a great job! just be careful when driving through the parkinglot. there are a LOT of bumps and dips.

I must admit that our main reason for dining at Cedars is the fact that is was opened in 1965 and buoyed by 600,000 pounds of concrete-encased styrofoam with breathtaking views of the sunset on Lake Coeur d'Alene. The food and service were a added bonus. We walked in at 4:30 pm on a Tuesday so we were fortunate to get a table by the window. We started off with a pound of Steamed Clams and Mussels in a rich leek, garlic chardonnay butter broth served with toasted foccacia. The broth was so flavorful we needed more bread to dip! We also had to try the Baked Brie. This appetizer was amazing - baked in a bread bowl and served with slices of Granny Smith apples then drizzled with honey. The honey drenched the botton of the bread that when topped with the Brie gave that sweet and salty goodness! Yum. They give you a choice of salad bar or soup with your entree and we chose the salad bar. Nice selection of spinach and lettuce mixes, olives, peas, beets, fruit, nuts, cheese, croutons and about six dressings. Now we were ready for our Prime Rib with grilled vegetables and baked potato. We also ordered a pound of Alaskan King crab legs (what can I say... we were hungry). The prime rib was a perfect medium rare and vegetables were nicely grilled. What could go wrong with king crab legs? Absolutely nothing! You get about four pieces to a pound and they cut through the shell for easy handling. We are stuffed at this point, but why stop now, right? So, we ordered a six-layer chocolate cake to go. What made our dining experience most enjoyable was of course, the view... the food and our server, Natalie. She was on point with every service aspect - friendly, knowledgeable, checked back several times and was just down right pleasant. We would definitely recommend Cedars - yes, it is a bit old and dated, but it is still worth a visit.

Walking in from the parking lot into a rustic, log cabin-styled structure, I was a bit apprehensive that this might be a touristy, lightweight place. I was pleasantly surprised. It was very good. We were a party of 4 couples - all staying at the Coeur d'Alene Resort. The courtesy van brought us over so it was a no-brainer. The menu is pretty ordinary with seafood, beef, lamb, chicken and pasta offerings at reasonable prices. My wife had the Wild Prawn Skewers ($26) and she raved about them! She loved the flavors of the seasonings and the shrimp were large and nice and plump so they had a bit of a "pop" to them when bitten. It came with wild mushroom risotto and seared green beans. She did not leave anything on her plate! I had the 10 oz. Sirloin with Alaskan King Crab Legs ($39) and I was really impressed. The beef was more tender than many NY strips I've had and it was done perfectly (medium rare) and it had a really good, beefy taste. And the crab legs were great - moist and flavorful and served with lemon and clarified butter for dipping. I was a very happy camper! The portions were plenty but it was so good, I ate all of the crab and took about half of the beef with me. And the baked potato was also good - garnished with sour cream and chives. Service was great. It's casual so don't expect refined service. It was efficient and our server was friendly, prompt and knew the menu. The other folks in our party were very happy, as well. Even the van driver was a hoot! We got a little background and history about the resort on the way back! What's not to like???? Jim

Wow, seriously underwhelmed. We had a party of six to celebrate our new college graduate and thought Cedars might be a good choice for a semi-formal dinner. The salad bar should have been the giveaway, but it was the lack of understanding that corkage (we brought very old, special wines to accompany our meal) means the waiter brings appropriate stemware and pours for you that started to show what we were in for. The food was mediocre and grossly oversized. Every member of our party got halfway through their meal and had to box the rest. My son ordered trout and seemed unimpressed... it wasn't until I got a look at it at home that I realized it was salmon. My prime rib was okay, but easily 1/3 was fat that should have been trimmed before plating, and my wife's scallops were gritty with either sand or shell (not just one, but all). At least the view is outstanding... worthy of a second star. We like to eat well and my expectations certainly weren't set for a Michelin rated restaurant, but by any standards they charge much too much for a massive plate of disappointment. The food is worthy of only a single star. The Cedars should hire a new, better staff (front and back), cut entree size to 40% of what it is now, and keep the price the same. They'd probably make a lot more profit and pick up a few more stars in the reviews. Sorry to write a bitchy review, but we won't be back and hope this helps others make better formal dining decisions in CdA.

Had dinner on June 30, 2013! There were six of us and everyone said their food was very good! I ordered the Halibut and my husband had the Prime Rib. Both of our meals were better than we've had there before. My Halibut was cooked perfectly and had wonderful flavor. The Prime Rib was very good too! I would recommend both of those to anyone!

This place used to be the best place to get a bang-for-your-buck steak in CDA. I haven't been impressed the last few times I've gone down. The quality of the food seems to have headed downhill, while the prices have stayed the same or gone up. Great drinks and great views during the summer, but IMO it's not worth the added headache of throwing so much $$$ for so little return. If atmosphere isn't an issue Texas Roadhouse is a much better steak for the price, and Bardenay at Riverstone has comparable atmosphere/menu/drinks for a better pricepoint.

I've been critical of the restaurants owned by this ownership group. Previously I had had poor experiences at Cedars too, but this is two positive experiences in row and I felt a positive review was in order. Maybe some changes have occurred in the positive. First experience was a party of three. We all shared the roast asparagus and smoked trout appetizers, would highly recommend both. I had the petit prime rib (regular, not the special) which was excellent and flavorful. To be honest I may be revealing my age in that I can't remember what dishes my friends had. I partook of the salad bar which is simple but the best in town. Our service was attentive and very friendly. A very good experience overall. Our second visit was a party of four. We both had the prime rib, which again was excellent (this was NOT the prime rib special but full price, possible a better quality), while our friends both had fish and really enjoyed it. This visit our server was friendly but a bit absent minded, but still provided adequate service. I noticed a new manager and spoke with him, think his name is Eddie. This gentleman was very personable and took an observable "hands-on" approach to management, actually walking the floor and even assisting in break down and set-up of tables. In speaking with him it became clear this is not his first trip to the rodeo, an industry professional. Maybe he is the difference we experienced at Cedars. As with previous reviews I've read, Cedars is an acceptable and enjoyable experience but the price point is pretty outrageous. For the price I'd expect an updated interior, at least cleaned and refreshed head to toe, as the dining room shows it's age in dust on the rafters. The view is one of the best in town. We'll return, but will stick to appetizers and the more reasonable items on the menu.

Beautiful view, outdoor, indoor and bar seating. Menu is pricey, but diverse. Loved the sea scallops in a gorgonzola sauce, served with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans. The food was good, not great. I was led to expect a four or five star experience. Maybe three stars is about it. The floating dining room was nice, boats and sea dooers passing while we ate. The prime rib was plenty good, but I have had better at a more competitive price. The adult libations were not frosty, I like my beer very cold, the Coors bottle was only cold. All in all a fairly good joint.

Cedars Floating Restaurant was rated one of the best restaurants in CDA.......... Not so much! The salad bar which was included in your meal was not edible. The lettuce was brown and the vegetables were not fresh. I walked up to the bar and took a look and promptly left with an empty plate! They offered me the soup instead and when I tried it, one spoonful was all I could do because it had soooo much sodium. When the bus boy asked why I did not eat it, I told him about the sodium and he said, I agree I had a bowl earlier...........then why are you serving it if you know there is an issue!!!!! The waitress was nice and friendly. Sorry Cedars your food is a ship wreck, not a hidden treasure!! I give this restaurant a thumbs down!!

Went here while on vacation, visiting my gramz, and was pleased. I was nervous because it is on the water and I get motion sickness, sure enough I did when I sat down. I had to get up and go outside prior to our food arriving, and actually switched seats with my friend so the water wasn't in my field of vision. The ambiance and view is unbeatable. The food was good and I loved the beer sampler! I tried 4 different specialty beers and picked the Tangerine Wheat for my full size. I chose the salad bar (nothing special there) and Salmon (cooked and served on a cedar plank-YUM). The salmon came with wild rice and veggies. My gramz got a complimentary scoop of Huckelberry Ice Cream (the area is known for Huckelberry-everything) because it was her birthday. I tried it and it was delicious! My gramz asked the waitres if the seafood is caught from the lake or if they serve anything from the lake, she said, "No, it's shipped in." I read, on the back of the menu, that the restaurant changed management a few times between private individuals and then was sold to a corporation. I assume at one time it was a cool privately owned restuarant but now you can feel it's owned by a corp. Overall it was a good experience but I think it is a bit overpriced.

They were great with accommodating us with a 5 top the day of, but that was about it. The bar was covered in dirty glasses to the point of absurdity. The couple at the end of the bar had to threaten the staff with telling the owner or somebody about it. they cleaned it up quickly after. It got old when Michele our waitress rolled her eyes every time I ordered or asked for anything. We only saw her take the order and bring the wine. After a $550 bill for 5 people, you'd think she would be happy about it. Lizzie the busser was amazing. to the point I gave her an extra tip for here arm personality and genuine care of our good time. The prime rib was really good. the other steaks, ny and ribeye, were very tough. The appetizer selection is terrible. 1 star for Lizzie. 1 star for prime rib. apparently it's all about the view.

I have had some great experiences there with my wife but the last time we went it was mediocre. The usual great services was down a little bit. I usually judge great service by how attentive the waiter or waitress is to the whole table. My glass of water is usually refilled by the time I even finished half the glass. This last time I had to wait about 5 minutes on a hot day to get some water. I know that the next time we go back the service will be back to its normal. The food and the view are worth the money for sure. Huge fan of their crab and love the salad bar. I think my wife could go just to eat the salad!

Yes.... It is dated. Yes, it's not chic or modern or cool. But... It's a floating restaurant with great staff and good food and the slight lake rise and fall if eating on the patio. All the food was tasty. Fish and chips. Not greasy or heavy. Prime rib done perfectly. Steam clans in a wonderful garlic butter broth. Crispy salad and fresh moist halibut. No rush eating. Server was attentive. Welcome was wonderful. Watching a duck swim by while enjoying dinner... Priceless.

I wanted to and hoped I could give a better review. Unfortunately I can't. I don't mind the decor, it is traditional and fitting for an in the water restaurant. My issue the price of the food compared to the quality. Many entrees in the high $20s and mid $30s. My expectations go up with the price! Service was fine. The prawn cocktail was very nice with large prawns. The clam chowder was rich and creamy but blah with little taste of clams. We had special of the day surf and turf and the steak was very chewy to tough.

We made reservations several weeks in advance for a group of 12. We even called the day of the dinner to confirm our reservation and special requests. We were assured everything would be set. Our table was ready but that was it. The service was terrible. I can't blame it on the server. For a Saturday in July the staffing was severly lacking. The kitchen totally screwed up several of our orders. One plate wasn't served for almost 30 minutes after the everyone else was finished. The dinning room also had a heavy smoke issue from the kitchen. Several people left or were moved upon request. We spoke to the manager who had no excuse. It was very apparent management and staffing was wasn't really important ownership. I had been here several years ago. Great food, good service and of course great view. The view is still there through the smokey kitchen. But thats it... I hope they wake up. From the looks of the comments we aren't the lone complaint.

Beautiful views, attentive staff, great wine selection but a totally dated restaurant with mediocre food. The restaurant looks like something from the 1970's and not in the "hip retro" type but in a "this restaurant looks dirty and worn" type of way. The views are some of the best and they have installed heaters on the patio so you can sit out there during the colder months / nights. I had the pan-seared scallops and they are "dry packed" which means they are not injected with preservatives upon harvesting. This also means though the scallops are a lot saltier and they paired the scallops with a sodium rich bacon underneath and very salty mashed potatoes and my mouth burned!!!

We come here once or twice a year while staying at Blackwell Island RV park. Usually we have a pretty good meal but this year it was a joke. We sat down and wasn't approached for about 15 mins. ( they were not very busy) we ordered the prime rib med and med rare.. The med was rare and the med was raw..After we sent back 3 times ( the chef just boiled them in ajus) the beans were tough. She didn't bother asking why all of our plates were still not even half finished..After dinner we were waiting because we wanted a box so we could bring one on the prime ribs with us but after about 20 mins we just left....poor service and bad good...

Little sickening to sit outside when the lake is choppy. Inside has a great view as well though. The crab artichoke dip was amazing, but my meal was way over cooked. Still a nice place. Desserts looked amazing, but don't they always!

Do not care about any prior mentioned out date decor but the food was a gigantic disappointment. They need to replace the entire kitchen with persons that posses some level of culinary expertise. The food we had served to us the other evening was pathetic at best. Even the prime rib looked like if had been sliced and then kept in a warming oven until it was overcooked. If you want poor service, weak drinks, raw vegetables, improperly cooked meats and grossly over priced food be sure to plan for such at ceders. So sad and a disappointment for our entire party

We were in Coeur d'Alene for a family vacation, there were 11 of us. Went there for lunch one day before 4 of us played golf. Food was good by all, however even though there was other staff there not looking busy, no one helped our server get our food to the table, so some were almost done prior to everyone getting there food. Returned for dinner another night and at least three meals were wrong, one meal didn't come and had to ask for it, by the time he got it everyone was done. Salmon was dry, Alfredo was greasy, fries and Tuna overly salty. Our server seemed to hustle and wasn't her fault as seemed like the kitchen had some major issues. It was not busy at all, so that could not be an excuse. They did comp. the meal that arrived late. Would not go back, sorry...

My friend and I came to Coeur D'Alene to visit one of our best friends for the week. She took us to this restaurant, which we were all very excited to try. Immediately after dinner, two of us got severe food poisoning and were vomiting all night. They've been under the weather all day today as well. We think it was their seafood that caused it. I ordered chicken and luckily didn't get sick. One of my friends ordered the steak with crab and my other friend ordered the scallops. We are quite frustrated that our last night in Coeur D'Alene ended on a bad note :/

Location is unbeatable! Food is very good-we had lobster trout, steamed clams-all were very good. What was truly exceptional was the staff. Very friendly and interested in making your visit pleasant. Example-I left a very expensive camera, the next patrons picked it up, on their way out, they took a few pictures, one of the staff noticed it, got my camera back from them-amazing-I have a few "interesting" pictures. But the staff really makes this retaurant-the food is good and the location is really great. Would be a mistake to miss this on a visit to CDA.

5 star view with 4 star food. Gotta try their Clam Chowder! Best in town. Prime rib and salmon were great, along with the Creme Brûlée and huckleberry puff we had for dessert. Definitely will come back here for dinner. Don't know why we haven't tried this place sooner.

This is a great place for special occasions. The food is pretty good (especially the clam chowder) and the lake side scenery can't be beat. If you tend to get seasick at all, I recommend sitting in the main part of the restaurant rather than on the floating dock. Our service was excellent, but it's a bit pricey for CdA.

Nice atmosphere. Very limited bar and a decent wine list. The appetizers were creative but just so so tasting. Rack of lamb came out poorly seasoned and with a brown sauce that was overly sweet. They sprinkle Gorgonzola on the scallops, totally overpowering the delicate flavor. At this price point I expect better culinary decisions. Not terribly impressed overall, novelty restaurant.

Went to Cedars for the second time recently. People in town always mention it as a place for a special occasion. It was a mix between am attempt at upscale vs buffet. Everything banks on the view, which is quite nice. We started with drinks, 2 off the 4 had to be sent back. Strawberry daquire tasted like fizzy water? And the sofa was flat. The server was kind and accommodating. We the ordered steak, prime rib, 2 seafood trio type deals. The prime rib was alright, the steak was good, although the patato cake was actually described as "gross" by my dining companion. Both of us eating the seafood were disappointed. I figure if your going to spend premium rates, you should get a good meal. All the food was warm, barely. I only ate part of the lobster, and gave up on the shrimp and crab cakes. I took the rest home and never ate it. That says something in itself. The other seafood orderer only ate 2 pieces of shrimp and opted pass on the rest. Surprising, since he is a good eater. Terribly disappointed in the experience. For the money, I'll head out to Churchills in Spokane next time.

We just spent our 16th wedding anniversary in Northern Idaho. The grandparents watched the kids and suggested we go to Cedars Floating Restaurant. Glad we did. The staff and manager were very friendly in welcoming us for our anniversary dinner. We made reservations and they sat us at a window seat to enjoy the view of Couer'dalene lake. I had the prime rib, which my family raves about. It was delicious and came with the incredible salad bar. This isn't your normal salad bar. It includes blue cheese, artichoke hearts and candied nuts. Yum! Hubby had the filet and it was so tendered. You also get to choose 1 of 4 ways to have it prepared. Nice touch Cheesecake with huckleberry sauce was also to die for and big enough to share. Our server was a little on the slow side filling bar orders and getting us the check, but that's just nitpicking. We watch the polite bus boy do the work of several employees very efficiently. All and all a great anniversary and we will return again on our next trip.

The waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was not that good. The prime rib is what they are famous for. Written on the menu it goes on about how it is "marinated for hours... blah, blah, blah," so I expected the prime rib to be good. The prime rib was tough and did not have much of any flavor. I was really surprised. It's an expensive fine dining restaurant, so I expected that the food they are famous for to be good. Dining out is expensive, if I'm not impressed I won't bother to go there again and hand my money out. Not trying there again.

I am not a Coer d'Alene local, but stopped in at the Cedars Floating Restaurant while driving to Seattle. I had an excellent experience at the restaurant. I had a great tuna fillet that was cooked to perfection. My brother had the salmon which he thought was great as well. The wine selection was very good too and not that expensive. The salad bar was nice to have but the ingredients were pretty average. If you're in Coeur d'Alene then Cedars is worth a look for the food and the spectacular view.

We ordered cocktails and an Ahi appetizer when we first sat down. The Ahi was wonderful and the cocktails were well made. Our server could rattle off just about anyting from the menu or the bar by memory, and she was knowledgable about the wines. With my steak dinner I ordered a glass of wine that I had never had before, and was was very happy with the choice. The view is great too. On the down side, I will happily pay high end prices for a meal, but it creates a level of expectation for the quality of the food and skill of preparation. Cedars failed on both accounts last night. If the prices were more along the lines of $15-$25 entrees I might not be so unforgiving. However, when I order a $40 steak I expect prime cuts expertly prepared. What I received was a mediocre cut of beef over cooked. The side veggies were bland, and the potato (this is Idaho, right?) was boring. Here is my own mistake: I should have sent the steak back to be cooked properly. Instead I blindly believed that the center of the steak would be ok. I thought, "Maybe it's just the end that's overdone?" I was wrong. The steak got worse as I worked my way to the center. When our server stopped by to check on us I did mention the steak was overcooked, but I chose to keep it. I'll take the blame for that one. My date's salmon was better than my steak, but still was not perfect. Parts of it were dry, but the center was great. Again, the word "uneven" comes to mind, and I'm reminded that $35 for salmon leads me to believe the chef is proud of the quality being produced. I would disagree. At the end of the meal my date still had most of a glass of wine she wanted to finish, so I ordered a scotch and we enjoyed the view while finishing our drinks. During this time I also spent some time people watching and saw at least one other steak returned to the kitchen. I also realized just how many tables each of the servers were scrambling to keep up with. It appears to me that the place is understaffed, which may account for some of the poor service others have noted. We were there early (around 6:00pm), which seemed to help. The bottom line for me is that I'm unlikely to return, and would not recommend Cedars to anybody looking for a nice meal. If you're looking for a great meal and a nice atmosphere, then there are better choices in the CdA/Hayden/Post Falls area. If you're looking for a great view and are not too concerned about the food, then Cedars might work for you.

Made reservations here a week in advance for a group of 4, and a birthday dinner. Thought it would be a great place on Nov 25th because of the Christmas lighting ceremony, and we had never seen the ceremony, so it was gonna be great. When we arrived at 6, it was dark, and the ceremony was to begin soon... but we were told that there we no tables available because people have been sitting for a few hours so they can watch the show. We stressed that we had reservations, but we were told "sorry" and that it might be 30-45 mins before we get a table, which to me, was super awesome because then we would miss the ceremony. After about a 15 min wait, I told the, what appeared to be a 16 y/o girl at the podium, that we were going somewhere else. She responded "sorry", and said nothing else. We went and had a great meal at Texas Roadhouse, and they saved the evening. Cedars is owned by the Haggadone Corp, which owns many restaurants in the area, as well as the resort... has really gone down hill in recent years. They charge high rates and pay their people peanuts, and I'm not quite sure their business plan anymore. I sent a letter about this crappy service to both the food and beverage manager, and the restaurant manager, and the only response I got was an email chock full of misspellings almost a month later, from the restaurant manager. It was basically nothing but excuses, but he did offer to make sure I get a window seat if I give them a second chance. WOW! That's super. They just don't get it do they? They own Cedars, the Beach House, Bonsai, Dockside, Beverly's, and Tito Macaronis. I think they have lost their edge. The food at all of them is overpriced, mediocre at best,l and obviously the customer service is falling fast. I have visited at least 1 of these restaurants every month for a long time... but that was my last visit to any of them. It's too bad... the old man might still have to custom build another boat someday to feature on some TV show... and he might not have the money. Oh well, he might have to double the price he charges for a bottle of Bud Light up from $7. Good luck with that. Your snooty old friends are gonna die off some day, then who's gonna come in?

Can I sum this up by saying eh? I really wanted to enjoy my visit to Cedar's and nothing went wrong to disappoint. The food was decent, the service was good, and being on the water was nice. However, I just got the feeling that something was missing from the overall experience. Can it be that Cedars is over-hyped for first-time visitors to the area with all the talk of fantastic food, needing reservations etc...? One positive note: our server was kind enough to point out that there were lots of kid-friendly items on the salad bar, which made a big difference for our almost one year old.

The reason why it got a one star was that we went there with a party of 7 and the acoustics in the room were so bad that you could not hear the person sitting across the table from you. We kept having to yell to be heard and even with that we were still only able to hear about half of what people were saying. We all ordered cocktails from the list which had no prices thinking they would be $5 - $10 but ohhh noooo... We found out when the bill came they were $17 to $20!!! Were we suppose to keep the glasses? Our waiter was very nice, everyone loved their dishes and we were seated within 10 minutes without reservations but we could just not get over the drink surprise and the volume level.

Cedars Floating Restaurant - that's right, you walk down a ramp, over a dock and into the floating restaurant. The unmatched views makes the ambiance very special. This landmark restaurant is located where the Spokane River enters Lake Cda. You can come by boat and tie up on the dock. Weather permitting, I choose to dine outside. Oh yeah, the food is really good as well. Aged steaks, seafood and pasta. I like the cedar plank salmon and the crusty bread they bring prior to your meal. Great wine list with nice selection of regional wines.

While they have the view going for them, service and food are not it. We went with a local (I'm from out of town) and were seated quickly without any problem. As for the food: Soup: was barely lukewarm. A hair shy of cold. Alaskan King Crab - almost cold. Paying $34 for the meal, this should be actually 'steamed' within a reasonable amount of time before being served. Prime Rib: We found out that their version of Medium Rare is well done. Not a single shade of pink of the meat at all. We had to send the meat back 2x before they admitted that they didn't have any Medium Rare cuts. This would have been fine if they told us this in the beginning or before the remainder of the party was served. By the time we found this out, the rest of the group was practically finished. We didn't get dessert, because we already had enough problems. I wouldn't care to return as I am sure there are other locations on the water that are better for the large prices they charge.

This place is terrible. I called the place a week and a half in advanced and talked to the manager. I told them I was proposing to my girlfriend and the manager Eddie promised me A corner seat which was a romantic seat a little more private then the rest of the seating due to its position. I called their yesterday a few minutes after they opened to make sure that everything was a go and that the seat would be available to me still and my reservation time was correct. The supervisor in charge said indeed it was and that they were expecting me. So I arrive from Spokane at their place only to find out that the seat was taken by someone else and that they do not guarantee seating after I was told in plain English that the seat was going to be mine by two people in charge. I left the place and had a romantic night at Clinkerdaggers in Spokane instead. No sense in giving hard earned cash to liars. To top it all off there was a screaming baby next to our so called romantic random seating they gave us. Do yourself a favor and buy an expensive steak somewhere with a little more class and respect!

First off, don't beleive the google map on here. This is off Hwy 95 and the marina drive and across the lake from town. Road into the place is a little hilly and 15mph is max. I arrived about 6pm with no reservations and found close parking. 15-20 cars in the parking lot. Walk down the ramp to the restaurant to some very nice decor. Hostess station right at the front, very nice hostess at the station. Dinner for 1 please, it will be a couple minutes. About 30 people in the rest which looks to seat 100+ inside and that many outside. Low noise level. I ask about a bar and am led to it. Sit and order Tanqueray Gin & Tonic. Drink arrives right away and so does hostess and it is time to be seated. Would I like to eat at the bar? I ask to sit outside, virtually empty outside in nice weather, slight wind @ 3-5 knots, tad chilly at times but not bad. Amazing views. Waitress brings menus, Huge wine list but $10+ a glass, comes back 3 minutes later and I order 16oz. Ribeye and 10oz. Lobster (not on the menu but that was what I felt like, no problem she says). Smashed red potatoes and clam chowder. Off she goes, busboy brings chowder and bread few minutes later, very tasty and firm clams and potatoes in creamy sauce (rating:8/10.) Ask busboy about smoking outside on the dock, he doesn't know but will ask, I tell him not to bother as it is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission, no one else outside except me. Go have a smoke on one of the two floating boat docks well away from seating, amazing view and ambiance. Waitress returns 10 minutes later with massive rib eye and two lobster tails, says the cook added another as he thought it was too small, at least 14oz total. Steak: was 8.5/10 and cooked med to perfection, Lobster: was a touch undercooked for my taste but I usually order everything well except Rib eye Stks , great flavor 7.5/10, taters: 8/10 w/ great flavor, veggies: perfect texture, good flavor 8/10. Another G & T, busboy checks on me every 5-10 min but not intrusive, just comes outside and is only a remark away. Waitress brings check, no hurry she says and I believe her. I ask for black coffee and it is fresh? Oh yes, says she. Takes check and comes back with coffee. Deliciously fresh 9.5/10. They must have a machine it is so fresh and tasty. Ask for take home box as I only ate 1 lob tail, 1/3 of steak and taters and waitress brings back classy waxed CB box, perfect for this price range. Waitress comes back 10 min later as I finish coffee. Is that all or can I get blah blah, "No thank you, that does it" and I get the check, pay by credit card and ask for itemized receipt. No problem,, she comes back, I sign and exit. Place has filled up in the last 40 minutes, about 3/4 full and only 10 minutes to 7pm. Bit noisier but not overwhelming. All in all 8/10 for ambiance, food and service. Only saw waitress 5-6 times total and busboy every 10 minutes or so. Ribeye w/ 1/2 Lobster tail: $69 coffee: $2.30 2 Tanqueray G&T: $11.50 sub: $82.80 Tax: $4.97 Total: $87.77 Tip: $15.00 cash. Service, 7/10 Food, 8/10 Price, 6.5/10 overall, 7/10 Will go back! A little pricey but I'm sure one could eat and have a cocktail for well under $50 pp if on a budget and be very satisfied with it. I felt like a steak and lobster and damn the price. I think the service was a bit below par but the busboy was diligent about being around unobtrusively. I probably should have tipped $10 but wanted him to get a bit more. Yeah, yeah, yeah, great views and what not. I can sit on the beach for a great view. I want some great food. To me, Cedars is good, but not as good as it thinks it is. A pound of steamed mussels floated in a delicious broth of garlic, butter and herbs. Don't get me wrong, they were delicious, but I like it when they're held over the broth via some sort of strainer rather than submerged. I'm a health nut, what can I say? I ordered the special which was some sort of ginger/citrus glazed halibut. The glaze was very light, which allowed the flavor of the fish to really shine through. But if you like your seasonings/sauces to really pop, you wouldn't like it. The steamed asparagus wasn't great. My favorite parts of the meal were the rice and salad bar. The rice was short-grained, naturally sweet and almost like a risotto. The salad bar was fresh with a ton of great toppings and dressings to chose from. So you may be wondering why I said it's not as good as it thinks it is when I just gave the food great reviews. Well, at $12 for the mussels and $29 for the halibut, it was a little overpriced. I've had MUCH better food that simply blew me away for cheaper prices in downtown Cleveland (thank you Michael Symon!) It would get five stars if the costs were about 2/3 what they are. I guess you pay a premium for the view.

Floating on a lake in Idaho is not everyone's idea of a good time. It was not exactly bad, but ... We had trout, wine, and vegetable sides served with competence, not compassion. I think that the place survives on its great location, loyal patrons, and simply b/c it's one of the few places in the area were you can be so close to the lake. The staff were nice to us, but others seemed to be pushing drinks on a table next to ours. Come here for the experience. It will be memorable.

Beautiful view, outdoor, indoor and bar seating. Menu is pricey, but diverse. Loved the sea scallops in a gorgonzola sauce, served with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans. The food was good, not great. I was led to expect a four or five star experience. Maybe three stars is about it. The floating dining room was nice, boats and sea dooers passing while we ate. The prime rib was plenty good, but I have had better at a more competitive price. The adult libations were not frosty, I like my beer very cold, the Coors bottle was only cold. All in all a fairly good joint.

Cedars Floating Restaurant was rated one of the best restaurants in CDA.......... Not so much! The salad bar which was included in your meal was not edible. The lettuce was brown and the vegetables were not fresh. I walked up to the bar and took a look and promptly left with an empty plate! They offered me the soup instead and when I tried it, one spoonful was all I could do because it had soooo much sodium. When the bus boy asked why I did not eat it, I told him about the sodium and he said, I agree I had a bowl earlier...........then why are you serving it if you know there is an issue!!!!! The waitress was nice and friendly. Sorry Cedars your food is a ship wreck, not a hidden treasure!! I give this restaurant a thumbs down!!

When we arrived at 6, it was dark, and the ceremony was to begin soon... but we were told that there we no tables available because people have been sitting for a few hours so they can watch the show. We stressed that we had reservations, but we were told "sorry" and that it might be 30-45 mins before we get a table, which to me, was super awesome because then we would miss the ceremony. After about a 15 min wait, I told the, what appeared to be a 16 y/o girl at the podium, that we were going somewhere else. She responded "sorry", and said nothing else. We went and had a great meal at Texas Roadhouse, and they saved the evening. Cedars is owned by the Haggadone Corp, which owns many restaurants in the area, as well as the resort... has really gone down hill in recent years. They charge high rates and pay their people peanuts, and I'm not quite sure their business plan anymore. I sent a letter about this crappy service to both the food and beverage manager, and the restaurant manager, and the only response I got was an email chock full of misspellings almost a month later, from the restaurant manager. It was basically nothing but excuses, but he did offer to make sure I get a window seat if I give them a second chance. WOW! That's super. They just don't get it do they? They own Cedars, the Beach House, Bonsai, Dockside, Beverly's, and Tito Macaronis. I think they have lost their edge. The food at all of them is overpriced, mediocre at best,l and obviously the customer service is falling fast. I have visited at least 1 of these restaurants every month for a long time... but that was my last visit to any of them. It's too bad... the old man might still have to custom build another boat someday to feature on some TV show... and he might not have the money. Oh well, he might have to double the price he charges for a bottle of Bud Light up from $7. Good luck with that. Your snooty old friends are gonna die off some day, then who's gonna come in?

Good view, good atmosphere. But the prime ribs special was ok. It was not done as specified. The flavor was lacking. Fabulous salad bar, though.

Can I sum this up by saying eh? I really wanted to enjoy my visit to Cedar's and nothing went wrong to disappoint. The food was decent, the service was good, and being on the water was nice. However, I just got the feeling that something was missing from the overall experience. Can it be that Cedars is over-hyped for first-time visitors to the area with all the talk of fantastic food, needing reservations etc...? One positive note: our server was kind enough to point out that there were lots of kid-friendly items on the salad bar, which made a big difference for our almost one year old.

Floating on a lake in Idaho is not everyone's idea of a good time. It was not exactly bad, but ... We had trout, wine, and vegetable sides served with competence, not compassion. I think that the place survives on its great location, loyal patrons, and simply b/c it's one of the few places in the area were you can be so close to the lake. The staff were nice to us, but others seemed to be pushing drinks on a table next to ours. Come here for the experience. It will be memorable.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, great views and what not. I can sit on the beach for a great view. I want some great food. To me, Cedars is good, but not as good as it thinks it is. A pound of steamed mussels floated in a delicious broth of garlic, butter and herbs. Don't get me wrong, they were delicious, but I like it when they're held over the broth via some sort of strainer rather than submerged. I'm a health nut, what can I say? I ordered the special which was some sort of ginger/citrus glazed halibut. The glaze was very light, which allowed the flavor of the fish to really shine through. But if you like your seasonings/sauces to really pop, you wouldn't like it. The steamed asparagus wasn't great. My favorite parts of the meal were the rice and salad bar. The rice was short-grained, naturally sweet and almost like a risotto. The salad bar was fresh with a ton of great toppings and dressings to chose from. So you may be wondering why I said it's not as good as it thinks it is when I just gave the food great reviews. Well, at $12 for the mussels and $29 for the halibut, it was a little overpriced. I've had MUCH better food that simply blew me away for cheaper prices in downtown Cleveland (thank you Michael Symon!) It would get five stars if the costs were about 2/3 what they are. I guess you pay a premium for the view.

I am not a Coer d'Alene local, but stopped in at the Cedars Floating Restaurant while driving to Seattle. I had an excellent experience at the restaurant. I had a great tuna fillet that was cooked to perfection. My brother had the salmon which he thought was great as well. The wine selection was very good too and not that expensive. The salad bar was nice to have but the ingredients were pretty average. If you're in Coeur d'Alene then Cedars is worth a look for the food and the spectacular view.

The food was great. That's the only nice thing I can say... The reason why it got a one star was that we went there with a party of 7 and the acoustics in the room were so bad that you could not hear the person sitting across the table from you. We kept having to yell to be heard and even with that we were still only able to hear about half of what people were saying. We all ordered cocktails from the list which had no prices thinking they would be $5 - $10 but ohhh noooo... We found out when the bill came they were $17 to $20!!! Were we suppose to keep the glasses? Our waiter was very nice, everyone loved their dishes and we were seated within 10 minutes without reservations but we could just not get over the drink surprise and the volume level.

Take advantage of the early dining menu. Planked salmon is to die for! The views can't be beat, service is spot on and the restaurant has a great vibe.

Cedars Floating Restaurant - that's right, you walk down a ramp, over a dock and into the floating restaurant. The unmatched views makes the ambiance very special. This landmark restaurant is located where the Spokane River enters Lake Cda. You can come by boat and tie up on the dock. Weather permitting, I choose to dine outside. Oh yeah, the food is really good as well. Aged steaks, seafood and pasta. I like the cedar plank salmon and the crusty bread they bring prior to your meal. Great wine list with nice selection of regional wines.

First off, don't beleive the google map on here. This is off Hwy 95 and the marina drive and across the lake from town. Road into the place is a little hilly and 15mph is max. I arrived about 6pm with no reservations and found close parking. 15-20 cars in the parking lot. Walk down the ramp to the restaurant to some very nice decor. Hostess station right at the front, very nice hostess at the station. Dinner for 1 please, it will be a couple minutes. About 30 people in the rest which looks to seat 100+ inside and that many outside. Low noise level. I ask about a bar and am led to it. Sit and order Tanqueray Gin & Tonic. Drink arrives right away and so does hostess and it is time to be seated. Would I like to eat at the bar? I ask to sit outside, virtually empty outside in nice weather, slight wind @ 3-5 knots, tad chilly at times but not bad. Amazing views. Waitress brings menus, Huge wine list but $10+ a glass, comes back 3 minutes later and I order 16oz. Ribeye and 10oz. Lobster (not on the menu but that was what I felt like, no problem she says). Smashed red potatoes and clam chowder. Off she goes, busboy brings chowder and bread few minutes later, very tasty and firm clams and potatoes in creamy sauce (rating:8/10.) Ask busboy about smoking outside on the dock, he doesn't know but will ask, I tell him not to bother as it is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission, no one else outside except me. Go have a smoke on one of the two floating boat docks well away from seating, amazing view and ambiance. Waitress returns 10 minutes later with massive rib eye and two lobster tails, says the cook added another as he thought it was too small, at least 14oz total. Steak: was 8.5/10 and cooked med to perfection, Lobster: was a touch undercooked for my taste but I usually order everything well except Rib eye Stks , great flavor 7.5/10, taters: 8/10 w/ great flavor, veggies: perfect texture, good flavor 8/10. Another G & T, busboy checks on me every 5-10 min but not intrusive, just comes outside and is only a remark away. Waitress brings check, no hurry she says and I believe her. I ask for black coffee and it is fresh? Oh yes, says she. Takes check and comes back with coffee. Deliciously fresh 9.5/10. They must have a machine it is so fresh and tasty. Ask for take home box as I only ate 1 lob tail, 1/3 of steak and taters and waitress brings back classy waxed CB box, perfect for this price range. Waitress comes back 10 min later as I finish coffee. Is that all or can I get blah blah, "No thank you, that does it" and I get the check, pay by credit card and ask for itemized receipt. No problem,, she comes back, I sign and exit. Place has filled up in the last 40 minutes, about 3/4 full and only 10 minutes to 7pm. Bit noisier but not overwhelming. All in all 8/10 for ambiance, food and service. Only saw waitress 5-6 times total and busboy every 10 minutes or so. Ribeye w/ 1/2 Lobster tail: $69 coffee: $2.30 2 Tanqueray G&T: $11.50 sub: $82.80 Tax: $4.97 Total: $87.77 Tip: $15.00 cash. Service, 7/10 Food, 8/10 Price, 6.5/10 overall, 7/10 Will go back! A little pricey but I'm sure one could eat and have a cocktail for well under $50 pp if on a budget and be very satisfied with it. I felt like a steak and lobster and damn the price. I think the service was a bit below par but the busboy was diligent about being around unobtrusively. I probably should have tipped $10 but wanted him to get a bit more. This place is terrible. I called the place a week and a half in advanced and talked to the manager. I told them I was proposing to my girlfriend and the manager Eddie promised me A corner seat which was a romantic seat a little more private then the rest of the seating due to its position. I called their yesterday a few minutes after they opened to make sure that everything was a go and that the seat would be available to me still and my reservation time was correct. The supervisor in charge said indeed it was and that they were expecting me. So I arrive from Spokane at their place only to find out that the seat was taken by someone else and that they do not guarantee seating after I was told in plain English that the seat was going to be mine by two people in charge. I left the place and had a romantic night at Clinkerdaggers in Spokane instead. No sense in giving hard earned cash to liars. To top it all off there was a screaming baby next to our so called romantic random seating they gave us. Do yourself a favor and buy an expensive steak somewhere with a little more class and respect!

The food wasn't great. The clam and mussel appetizer was over cooked. It was like trying to eat rubber bands. The wild rice was mushy and sticky. The vegetables were over cooked and mushy. There is a nice view but not worth the bad food. The server couldn't get the drink order right and had to be found because he forgot to bring the drinks.
