Very pleasantly surprised. Helpful waitstaff and delicious food. It was over 100 degrees in CDA and we couldn't bring ourselves to order curries or soups so we got everything cold! Papaya salad was the best! House thai salad with tofu was delicious with light tasty dressing. Spicy peanut sauce with fresh spring rolls delicious. Generous portion sizes and yummy Thai iced tea. Thai lettuce wraps were tasty. Kids ordered pad thai and loved it plus more to take home. Coconut ice cream to top it off. This was perfect and pleasantly chilly inside (the other Asian restaurant we went to first must have been 85 degrees inside).

Great Thai spot in a convenient location. Fantastic atmosphere -- I love the raised ceiling with stars, the different fabric covering the booths, and the art. And an entire section for vegetarians and vegans, hooray! The red curry with tofu was quite good (and medium spicy was perfectly hot but not painful), though the pad Thai was so-so (too sweet). Terrific service. Will definitely eat here again on my next visit to Coeur d'Alene.

Good food, nice ambience, good service. Vegetarian red curry had less salt.

Great food, great atmosphere...we went their at 5pm on a Friday, must have been 30 kids under the age of 7 there, screaming, yelling, crying...I think we'll return next time in off hours

I came to Thai bamboo because I was craving Thai food. I ended up getting their pad thai and Mongolian beef. Their mongolian beef was really salty and not very good. Didn't really taste like anything but salty. There pad thai was very average and they put a tad too much peanut sauce. Wasn't spicy enough either. Thai iced tea was pretty good

Got out of work a little later than I wanted, but I am glad I still got here before they closed! Decor was awesome, lots of things to look at! I think my favorite is the Star Ceiling that changes colors and it looks like it has shooting stars, and lots of stationary stars that twinkle. I started out with Fresh Rolls. Non Fried rolls with tofu, shrimp, and veggies inside, then you can dip them in their peanut sauce. I thought they were pretty good, a little on the dry side. I hate to compare them to Viet Spring Rolls, but they are similar, the peanut sauce was good too, but not as good as Viet peanut sauce. I ordered the Chicken Phad Thai, got it at a Medium Spice level. It was a big plate! It was just right for the spice level, it kept my nose sweating the entire meal, it offset the sweetness of the dish. I told myself to save some room for some Mango Sticky rice at the end, but of course that didn't happen. Maybe one day I will come back and try their desserts! I look forward to eating here again! AMEX ACCEPTED!

The food is delicious, everything my family and I have ordered we've loved! I love their chicken green curry with black rice. Even my young kids look forward to eating at Thai Bamboo. The atmosphere is amazing! The service is a little slow but I think it is because the dishes are being made fresh. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Favorite "ethnic" food in the area--my wife even enjoys the food, and she generally doesn't go for ethnic food. The addition of the photos on the menu make it easier for me to remember what I ordered last time, so I can try something different. I love the curies.

Pretty interesting looking on the outside... florescent lights... .... We ordered the spring rolls and the pad thai. Have to say, it was NOT good. Spring rolls were not fresh. The vegetables that were rolled inside were wilted and about to die. The rice paper was hard and dry. The pad thai was overly sweet and tart and difficult to eat. Lesson learned.... CDA, Idaho... stick to the American foods there. Thai food, not so much.

Okay, I'm going to bump my rating up to 4 stars. They have new menus with photos of nearly every item which is very helpful. I love that the new menus very clearly show what items are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc. and that the last server we had took the time to explain what entrees had egg in them. Awesome service!!

I am updating again as Tom is also saying things that are untrue. He sent me several emails telling me that karma would get me because I rated him one star. He said all sorts of crazy and intense things, I told him all I wanted was an apology and he refused to apologize. Saying that "ego doesn't deserve an apology". Apparently having an "ego" means that I seek an apology. I had told him over and over I don't expect anything monetary except a company to admit when they messed up. I had also told him that his staff's incompetency is not my fault since he clearly doesn't understand customer service and kept harassing me. By the 4th email I was furious because he was extremely demeaning and I have never ever with a restaurant owner being so rude when they made the mistake. He then started to tell me that karma will get me for rating him 1 star and that "there will be serious consequences for this." He's now threatening me. I had told him based on his rude nature and threats I would never go back because he's clearly insane and I can't support this establishment. I've told all of my vegan and vegetarian friends never to eat here and I hope I can turn more away from this restaurant. Had he apologized I would have accepted it and moved on. He said his staff didn't mess up (when both CDA food deliveries and Eat24 said it was Thai Bamboo that was holding things up) and he is unable to admit fault and keeps saying lies on Yelp. As you can see, he harasses anyone else on here that posted 1 star reviews and is unable to admit fault or correct his mistakes. You'd be better off getting Thai food anywhere else.

One of our favorite restaurants. The fish and chips are great. Super Bowl and phad Thai are also very good. There Maui brewing beers are very tasty. Got the rewards program and it is well worth the few minutes to sign up. Very comfortable and friendly service .

I'm updating my review. I actually went two nights in a row last week-- first for take out on my way home and second with my family (this is where they chose). Their serving sizes were huge! I ordered different things that usual, so I'm not sure if they made the portions bigger or if they have always been that big, but I was thoroughly impressed! The red curry fed me for three meals, no exaggeration, and I'm no dainty eater!

5 star ambiance, 3 star food = 4 star restaurant. Our waitress Ning was very nice. Would recommend the Thai ice tea and the mangos and sticky rice!!

A Wonderful Thai Experience to Find in CDA! SIT-REP We had to travel 60 miles north to CDA from St. Maries in order to get AWAY from just Burger & Fries. It was worth the drive. MY RECENT BACKGROUND WITH THAI CUISINE Both Italian and Mexican have been absolutely favorite cuisines and nothing has changed that in nearly 35 years of my life. HOWEVER, this has now changed into a TRIFECTA of favorites since I was first introduced to THAI cuisine in San Francisco nearly 5 years ago. Ever since I began my early roadtrip/clubbing days in San Francisco, I would always have time to make a midnite-3am PIZZA stop in the North Beach, SF hood before heading back over the Bay Bridge and onward to Sacramento. However, I'm just as likely now to hit Bangkok Noodles or King of Thai for some take-out for the trip back. And these two restaurants in particular have SPOILED me on their incredible, yet surprisingly different, tastes of one another. So it takes something really special for me to find to be on par with them. Sad to say, I haven't found that yet here in Sacramento, and I've hit areas in the Arden area and the two restaurants on Broadway, etc. etc. COEUR D'ALENE However, enter "Thai Bamboo" here in CDA, and now I got to "reapply" my Thai "litmus test" to this new restaurant I found in logging town backwoods of the Pacific Northwest. THE MENU * First Test: THE SPICY COCONUT MILK SOUP. In SF, my fave Thai places call it TOM KHA GAI. Here in CDA, they called it TOM KHA. We got the Tom Kha at medium spiciness, and it was a great choice! The soup was rich with coconut milk, chicken (we could have ordered Beef, Shrimp, or Tofu as well). It was truly a traditional hot & sour soup also with galangal root, onions & mushrooms. A substantial order of Steamed Rice came with this. * Second Test: PAD THAI NOODLES - Oh my god, absolutely scrumptious! No scrimping on the seafood and additions either! * Third Test: A YELLOW CURRY DISH. This was called Gaeng Mussman. It can be a choice of vegetarian or meat (we chose beef) with yellow curry, potatoes, carrots, onions & bell peppers. It was a good experiment but not near as enjoyable as the other two dishes. Still, it was an exceptionally delicious dish nonetheless. AND we had leftovers! THE LOWDOWN "Thai Bamboo" was an exceptional dining experience in CDA that I hope to enjoy again very soon to satisfy my growing Thai cravings!

I just moved to Coeur d'alene, Idaho 6 months ago. I've been dying to try Thai Bamboo as it is the only Thai Food Place here in CDA and I was LONG over due for spicy Curry and Pad Thai! This place is single handedly the WORST Thai food I've ever eaten and the service was Horrific!!!! I gave it one star because of the decor of the interior and exterior of the restaurant. The wait staff has NO knowledge of Thai, our server could not answer any of our questions or give us any recommendations!? It was Friday night at 8pm, the place was dead. They started sweeping around our table at only 8:15, the staff was all teenagers that hung around the front host desk talking loudly about how they couldn't wait to get out of here. My date and I were an inconvenience to them getting out by 9:00pm. Our server had NO idea what beers were on draft versus bottled. Do NOT order the Spring Rolls they are disgusting tiny grease balls with a couple strands of cabbage and a single strand of carrot, there was grease dripping out of them, they were inedible. The condiment jars were dirty and desperately needed a real cleaning, I wouldn't even take chili flakes out of them. The place is JOKE. I'm dumb founded it has so many stars. It must be corporate trying to trick you to get in. Don't EAT Here!

Tried it once to go ahead and do something different for once. Absolutely awful food. The restaurant was dead inside, and despite the pretty outside and their fancy lighting it's not worth returning. I tried Pad Thai and... it was ketchup covered noodles? What... even?? Just, no. Never again.

I've had a few other dishes here that have ranged from good to meh, but #27, the red curry chicken with sticky rice (just because I am not a huge jasmine rice fan) is seriously the most delicious meal I have had since moving here.

The ambience was wonderful and the kids just loved it! The ceiling is lit up like the evening sky with stars And comets flying around. There are neat statues that seem to be staring at you and other awesome artwork. This is a very kid friendly restaurant. Angela, the manager, is a true sweetheart, loves her job, and takes a lot of pride in her work. Any restaurant is lucky to have her! Our waitress, Nng, Is actually from Thailand and made the experience much more enjoyable. Unfortunately, the food is hit and miss. The Thai beef jerky was awesome and I can eat it all day long. My kids literally devoured it. The fresh rolls were equally amazing, and I strongly recommend them. However, the main entrées were unrecognizable. It seemed like they added sugar to everything. I mean seriously, it was really odd. The fried rice was mushy and soggy. The yakisoba is supposed to be pan fried and a little bit crispy. But instead it was really gooey and sweet. I really think they should call it yucky soba... The Seabass was pretty good, but again it was too sweet. It came with a side order of black and brown rice. The rice was really the only awesome thing on the plate. 5 stars for ambience. 5+ stars for the staff! Unfortunately, I really can only give the food 2 stars. The price was also a little bit high considering the quality of the food. Overall, I give it three stars.

I have been back twice since my previous review and still find it just as wonderful as the first time! Ning has been my server each time which means I have some sort of good luck! Earlier in the week we were too lazy to go in so we ordered online and that experience was without fault... Thai bamboo continues to bring their 'A' game and it pleases me to see such consistency. Also it is nice to see the owner cares about his yelp page and acknowledges both the bad an good reviews and reviewers!!!

I have never eaten at this location before...but I'll be back. The green curry chicken with basil? Amazing. As was the sesame chicken, soup and chicken skewers appetizers--- The service attentive. Price--well worth it.

We came to CDA on business from Tennessee. There aren't a lot of great options for vegetarians in CDA, at least not places that can be identified from Yelp reviews. I had eggplant with black bean sauce and my wife had tofu with cashews. Both were excellent: beautifully seasoned and presented. The spicing is lower than I am used to in Thai restaurants; 2* was pretty mild, so if you like it spicy, go with at least 3*. Remember to order rice/noodles because they aren't included at dinner. We also shared the fried tofu appetizer, which was exceptionally good (and large). The service left something to be desired, which is why I am only giving 4 stars; the taste would have merited 5. We had bad luck, I think. Our server was friendly but seemed to avoid our table. She never offered a refill of soft drink or water. When our food came, we had to flag her down to ask for plates and silverware. My item was more of a Szechuan than Thai style and I asked for chopsticks; she said, "Of course," but did she bring them? Of course NOT! Other servers in the dining area appeared to be much more attentive, so, as I said, probably bad luck. For vegetarians: the selection isn't huge (about 6 main course dishes), but the owner understands vegetarians, and comments in the menu about which sauces have fish or shrimp paste in them (our server, on the other hand, seemed surprised that vegetarians don't eat fish). There is a comment on the print and PDF menus (you can't see it on the HTML version) that many other items can be made vegetarian, and you can add tofu to most dishes.

I love this place. They have just about anything you could possibly want.Good food and great drinks. Lunch specials are the best deal. I love the Sweet and Sour chicken. The service is always good but the interesting thing was my family and I ate at the Thai Bamboo in Spokane and their service blew the CDA one out of the water. Maybe the last time we went the CDA location was having a down night. All I know is the service was the only thing keeping them from a 5 star review

I was actually impressed. Looks strange from the outside, but for ethnic food, this place is the best in the area and I have eaten at them all. The atmosphere is fun, food is good, service is good and I was generally impressed since most ethnic food here is very marginal and very much like Panda Express. You can tell the food is fresh and I wish people visited the tiki bar they have more because I would be a regular!

Good place! Lunch special is 9 bucks for soup, pad Thai, and an entree, but I would probably not want to pay for the dinner prices. Nice atmosphere, with flickering stars on the ceiling and a tv with a slideshow of pictures of monkeys and temples.

My whole family was in town for Mom's internment and headed out for dinner the night before and a Nephew recommended Thai Bamboo. Now mind you, I eat out a lot and all over the west coast. Thai food is one of my favorites. Mind you again, we weren't too hungry after getting a fix at Hudsons just a few hours before as is tradition when returning home to CdA. Ten of us walked into the restaurant and wondered a bit to one another whether the decore was pretty neat or edging on "Tacky". Finally, seated under the stars in the main dining room we caved in and began to enjoy ourselves. A couple of Sing Ha's and out came some of the best Satay with a superior peanut sauce. It was soon feeding time at the Zoo. The sounds of smacking lips, content hums, and "pass the sauce" requests were rising to a fevered pitch. Soon our meals came (the menu is VERY extensive) and everyone dived in up to their elbows, sharing tastes, swiging beer, laughing, and carrying on. Who CARES if rice has arsenic, pass the Jasmine rice and the sauces... The fevered pitch maintained our rapture for a considerable ammount of time until most everything had been consummed. There were no take home packs per se. Everyone sat back, moaned, and sluggishly opened their thai fortune cookies. The only thing this place needs is a good hand truck to roll you out to your car with.. I slept like a baby that night like I was in a hammock on the beach in Phu Ket. Go here! Try it!! Go again!!

I'm not a Thai food connoseiur, but I do enjoy it when I have the chance. I was pleased to find a Thai option in Coeur d'Alene. I've been here several times for lunch and get one of the pad Thai combos. They're not too expensive (~9$), quite filling (come with rice, noodles, chicken or tofu), and are good. Atmosphere is comfortable. Service has been quick and good. Overall a nice place to eat lunch and a reasonable value.

The food is decent, but it's nothing special. My husband and I have been twice now and both times I was shocked at how long everything took... getting water, placing an order, getting our food, paying the bill... our hour lunch break from work turned in to an hour and 45 minutes and the place wasn't even busy. Overall, it's just underwhelming. The food isn't worth the wait in my opinion.

NEW This place is great. Finally, the CDA location is as good as the Sookane locations. I highly recommend. ORIGINAL I love Thai Bamboo... In Spokane. In Coeur d'Alene, not so much. The service is usually poor and the food matches. I do not understand why I keep going back there. I give the place another shot every year and every year I go away not understanding how it can be this mediocre. The meats are way over cooked and tough, the Thai beverages taste chemical, and the service is always slow. To top it off, the food does not even taste like the food served in the Spokane restaurants. Did someone license the name but not the recipes? I don't get it.

So happy to have decent Thai food in Coeur d'Alene, it is easy not to be picky in reviewing Thai Bamboo. We used to go to Riverview Thai in Spokane for many years until they closed their doors. That was our favorite, but now we can say we enjoy Thai food close to home. While I would agree it is a step down from Riverview Thai and some "big-city" Thai restaurants, who would normally have an owner-operator making individual meals for you vs. the "cooks" at Thai Bamboo, I am a fan, and the meals are consistent having been a dozen times now. The currys are nice. The Phad Kheu Ma is delicious in fact. Even the Phad Thai is decent; a dish that separates so many good Thai restaurants from the bad. The food at Thai Bamboo is surprisingly flavorful situated in midtown Coeur d'Alene. I highly recommend this restaurant for vegetarians. You can sub tofu even on the Larb salad which is great and quite unique. They have firm tofu and serve it fried as an option. Their menu is extensive and they are flexible in the kitchen with lots of recipes. Eating in the restaurant is a trip. The ceiling changes colors showing a night-sky setting. The galaxy lounge is interesting attached to the restaurant although almost always empty. The restaurant has an exotic theme through and through and worth a visit. One tip: bigger portions if you eat in!

Thai bordering on inedible. Ignoring warnings from several friends, I gave Thai Bamboo a try. I received bright red Pad Thai and a dry, crumbly fried tofu appetizer. I ate a few bites of each and pushed the plate aside. The emo kid serving me asked if I was done. I told him the food was terrible to which he replied, "Will there be anything else?" I threw a few bucks on the table and left. The branches in Spokane are a bit better. Unfortunately to get decent Thai, I still have to drive into Spokane. Thai Kitchen and Linnie Thai are both quite good.

Everytime my boyfriend comes to town he begs to go here. I've eating Thai in many bigger cities, where the Thai has been exceptional, but as far as I'm concerned this place does pretty well for CDA, and until I find another Thai place in CDA, I'm still headed here. To be honest, I have only had a few dishes that they serve here, mainly curries and the Pad See Yew, which is delicious!! I have not been disappointed in the food and go here every couple of months or so. Service has always been friendly and prompt. They also make the dishes to order in terms of spiciness, which is good for someone like me who likes it HOT! One note about the decor, the wall decorations are pretty and they show a rotating slide show on the wall of photos from Thailand, but the ceiling is decorated to look like the sky - complete with changing colors and "comets"?? Its a little strange and distracting from the dining experience. Also, they tend to play music that can be a little repetitive and tedious. Order takeout instead? I've done it once before and it was pretty good.

just wanted to write an update to my previous review. I gave it 2 stars last time and I would like to give 2.5 this time, but not an option...alas. We found some consistently good entrees that we would order again (#19, the drunken noodles and #42, Phad Phed). The green papaya salad has been good but on a few occasions was not up to par; same with the Tom Kha Kai soup. I have been in contact with the owner several times about our poor experiences there and he was very accommodating; seems to really care about the feed back they get. I will not bump up the stars anymore however due to some of the cooking methods I recently learned about. They microwave their sticky rice in zip-lock bags; this is by no way a recommended nor safe food prep practice. With all of the attention lately about the carcinogenic and endocrine disrupting nature of plastics, microwaving food in them is simply irresponsible. Every health professional and scientist who studies these things recommends that under no circumstances should food be microwaved in plastic, let alone a soft and malleable plastic such as a zip-lock bag ( nytimes.com/2010/05/06/o… ). Needless to say, we do not order rice from them anymore.

I will be joining those loyalty program because I will eat here often.

Good food, nice ambience, good service. Vegetarian red curry had less salt.

Great food, great atmosphere...we went their at 5pm on a Friday, must have been 30 kids under the age of 7 there, screaming, yelling, crying...I think we'll return next time in off hours

Tried it once to go ahead and do something different for once. Absolutely awful food. The restaurant was dead inside, and despite the pretty outside and their fancy lighting it's not worth returning. I tried Pad Thai and... it was ketchup covered noodles? What... even?? Just, no. Never again.

The food alone is 4 stars, but the unique environment and great service push it to 5 stars.

Really grateful for having great Thai food in CDA. Thai Bamboo always does it well, and the space is beautiful. The menu has unique dishes, and I've never had anything that I didn't like.
