Service was good food was ok. I know that it's a different chef/ owner than scratch in Spokane. I like Spokane menu better. I mean I would go back for sure but the building had a mildew smell to it. Ever slight in back area. We started with bacon wrapped figs . Good but a bit dry. I ordered the fig goat flatbread. At the entrance there are photos of the plates. The photo showed a flat bread with a pesto base figs goat cheese pine nuts and basil loaded Mine had no basil leaves and only 5 or 6 nuts. My daughter ordered BBQ pork she enjoyed but she was hoping for hand cut fry. Wife ordered fish tacos. She thought they were good but a lite soggy.

Aside from the decent patio, this place place definitely underwhelms. From marginal food to sub par service to overpriced entrees, scratch bistro is one restaurant you should try to avoid.

Had my 1st experience at Scratch last night. I have been procrastinating because I had heard it was a little expensive. I am a great idiot. I cannot believe I waited so long! The prices are no more expensive than Red Robin. My husband had the fish tacos with a side of a caesar salad. The salad was huge and the fish tacos were incredible topped with delicious guacamole, pico de gallo, and lime. I had the fries and a chicken sandwich, which has an amazing honey cream cheese on it. Not something I would've ever thought of but it was soooo good! Then for dessert we shared a huckleberry cobbler topped with chantilly cream and ice cream. Wow. Wow wow wow! Onto the service, the waiter seated us immediately. He sat us next to the fireplace which added to the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant itself. He was incredibly friendly and attentive. Not once did I need to flag him down for ANYTHING. He was ahead of us the whole night. He quoted us the specials (which ALL sounded amazing), and then gave us time to decide. I wasn't sure which wine I wanted, so he offered me some samples of them. There is nothing I was left wanting for upon leaving Scratch. We will be back again and again.

Upon |ooking at the menu, I thought some of the items might be quite good but after eating there, I can say that the food is just adequate, at best. My wife ordered the Guinness Battered Halibut and I ordered the Hot Pot. Her fish was clearly put in the oil before it was hot enough, as the fish was extremely, disgustingly greasy and the batter was soggy and bland; not that it would have made the meal better, but the serving size was rather small too. My Hot Pot, while having flavor, suffered from inadequately rinsed clams that were gritty, saffron rice that was lacking in saffron, and parmesan toast that was greasier than it should have been. Also, there was an unnecessary chiffonade of basil on top of the Hot Pot that didn't integrate at all with the rest of the meal. The food wasn't truly bad, but there was nothing about it that would induce me to return in the future, particularly as it is also a bit over priced.

I just love this place. There aren't many places off Sherman that you can get a quite booth and amazing food but you get the best of both worlds here. It is my new favorite place to go out!!

Ranks up there with some of the worse service I had. Been here before and liked the food but without decent service, who cares? I only wish I had read the other yelp reviews first. A bad dining experience. Sorry for the length, but want to be accurate.... I ordered duck with a fabulous sounding side of brussel sprouts though the duck I received came with a large side of potatoes. Waiter: they ran out. Me: better to let the customer know before they order. After consulting with the chef the waiter came back: the chef pointed out that there were brussel sprouts. I stood corrected - - there were 2 small halves under a sea of potatoes. Me: could I have another green vegetable? The waiter returned with a plate of 3 shriveled beans. What? In the whole kitchen only 3 beans? Back to the kitchen again - - this time with a full plate of beans though blackened and overcooked. It appeared that the chef was not happy with my concern. Did he retaliate? Food piece resolved though my dining experience deteoriated. There seemed to be little concern for me as a customer and in fact downright disdain. I asked to speak to the manager but learned none was on duty. Odd. I asked to speak to the chef but was told that he was too busy with other customers though the place was quite empty. Odd again. Finally the waiter brought over another waitress who did apologize. But the damage was done. My meal had become a horrible dining experience that even some good food cannot erase. Now reading other comments this is not new. Too bad. I know things go wrong in the kitchen but when they do the staff should apologize and make it right quickly. Hard to do if no manager is on duty and the young staff have to deal with a cranky and perhaps downright mean chef. There are too many other places nearby where the staff at well- trained, a manager is there and all the staff care about your food and experience. Find a better one and more deserving. SCRATCH THIS PLACE!

Ordered the Kobe Burger med rare without onions, due to allergies, it came med rare but with onions. Had the Kobe burger sent back and I think they recooked my original burger and just took off the onions. It was med well when I cut into it. Disappointed.

This is definitely not what I was expecting to find is Western Idaho, and I am very glad I did. Nearly everything on the menu looked fantastic and all of the food that we ordered was executed wonderfully. Had the hot pot (not sure if they know what a hot pot is) and it was awesome. Some of my friends had the duck, the halibut and the tri tip with mushrooms, all of which looked fantastic. Service was great and the prices were very reasonable for the quality of the meal. Coure d'Alene is lucky to have this place.

I have been to this restaurant several times and the food alone keeps me coming back. Service is average, as it is a true mom and pop feel - the daughter of the owner works there. I don't like the decor much, its cluttered and tries to be something it isn't. Either keep it modern, artsy or family but trying to all of it at once isn't working. I am more at a 3.5 with this place, but I give it a 3 because my recent experience during Memorial Day Weekend I ordered several items, including the Lox Benedict. The eggs were not poached correctly, actually one of them was cooked all the way. This is a detail, should not have been missed for a place, that has exceptional food overall. I feel a different vibe also from the last time I came. I hear the new Scratch in Spokane is better...I guess opening a new restaurant the energy and passion loses its luster? I may come back my next trip, hoping it will improve as an "experience" rather than a place to eat.

I was in town for business and came in on a Monday night - at 6pm, the place was almost completely empty, with the exception of another 2-top. It's a sure sign of suspicion when the restaurant has a patio and no one was sitting out there, given the gorgeous weather and that the grill across the street was busy. I ordered my dishes to-go and they were ready in precisely 6 minutes after I placed the order (this was a concerning first sign). The food is mediocre at best. 2 of the dishes I tried were over-salted, over-sauced and over-cooked. The kale salad was NOT sweet (as described by my server) - it tasted so badly of burnt onions and I have no idea what the dressing was. All I could taste was bitter greens and burnt onions. Gross. This is a grilled vegetable side - not a salad. Smells and tastes like the sautÃ© you get when you eat at a hibachi grill. The lamb pops were so salty and over cooked. They tasted like vinegar with some sprinkles black pepper. My box was leaking when I pulled it out of the bag. It was red, but couldn't have been blood because the meat was so over-cooked. Turns out it's red wine vinegar - way too much of it. My third dish was better - the bacon-wrapped dates. They were tasty. Didn't understand the goat cheese mousse or the puddle of balsamic glaze that was served along side. The combo was odd. A little of both would've gone a long way. I had to remind my server that I ordered a side of bread, but she did add silverware without my asking. And just FYI, the bread was soggy, undercooked and squishy. I enjoyed a glass of red wine while waiting. Unfortunately, there wasn't much to look at in terms of people-watching. Don't know why on earth old 90's Backstreet Boys music was playing, but if I wanted to hear past pop music while in a so-called fine dining restaurant, well, I would've stayed home. Clearly the chef is creative - you can tell that from his ambitious menu. However, the dishes I tasted had very confusing flavor profiles and just seemed to be starring the sauce as the lead character in the story. The menu needs some serious simplification and overhaul. Keep it simple, use fresh ingredients, and go easy on the sauce - a little goes a long way. I am so thankful that this place was open on a Monday - my other two choices were closed. However, I will definitely not be returning and if I do, it won't be for the food.

I'd love to be able to report another fine breakfast at Scratch today but I cannot. We arrived late, to a restaurant that had only four tables seated and, apparently, one server on the floor. Fifteen + minutes later, with no attention except for menus and a glass of water, we left. At the time we left, there were people at the counter awaiting their check (they were there for, at least, three minutes) and the table that entered immediately before us had not yet received their coffee. Disappointing.

I was in town for business and we wanted a healthy dinner and some place that was not too noisy. This was just the restaurant I wanted. Very tastefully decorated, the staff was friendly and extremely helpful and the food was great. We started with the bruschetta, and we each had a salad. My mom had salmon and I had chicken on my salad. Salmon was cooked perfectly and everything was sooo tasty. I asked to see if they could share the recipe of the candied nuts on my salad, but the chef said no. I would go back just for those nuts, amazing! I'll be back there the next time I'm in town.

I took my daughter there, thinking I would treat her to a great meal in a high end restaurant . The prices reflected those of a gourmet. Restaurant, but I was appealed at the cracked upholstery on many of the chairs. My daughters salmon was nicely done, it came with a small mound of rice with a couple of long beans. My grown up Mac and cheese was terribly over cooked, the seafood tough and salty and fishy tasting. The waiter did apologize and take it off my bill but overall I don't think the ambiance and food quality warrant the high prices. The Mac and cheese was $25 and the tiny salmon was $17

Overall, this was a good restaurant and I'd come back for repeat items and to try more. My husband and I had clams to start (very garlicky, which I didn't mind, but a tad overcooked), then I had their signature salad (yum!) and the lamp pops (also yum!). The service was excellent. Scratch is located on the main drag through CDA, so cute location, but the inside could be a little bit nicer given the price point.

RUDE RUDE RUDE! Came in well before the busy lunch time in a Saturday. Most tables were empty. Hostess told us she couldn't sear our party of 14 and that we needed to have had to have a reservation so they could prepare for that many people. Ummm what were they going to do when all the tables were seated if they "needed to prepare" for a group numbering less than a quarter of the restaurant's capacity. Unfortunately, someone in my party made a bad decision to persuade the waitress that we could be seated at separate tables. (We should have just run away). They then proceeded to serve our several of our beverages in plastic cups stating they were out of glasses. Ohhhh that's what they needed to prepare! They needed to wash the glasses apparently. But, funny how the next table got glassware and all the tables where NO ONE was seated (!!) had empty water goblets sitting on them. The foods was adequate. But the unpleasant greeting and conflict with the hostess tainted the entire experience.

Stopped here on my way back from Montana. Food and service was very good. It took a while for my fish tacos to come, but they were very good. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the guacamole had a nice flavor. I would recommend eating here if you're patient.

Food was great at Scratch in Coeur d' Alene ,ID but the waiter first charged us for the salad we did not order and I brought that up and he said that he will take care of it which he took it off the bill but then he lost our credit card some where between the table and their cash register and on top of that he only had two tables to take care of. Good little place for a quick bite to eat. This was our first time in Couer d'Alene and we just strolled by an decided to go in. I had a decent hummus wrap with a really good crab chowder. The girlfriend had a grown up grilled cheese with apples that was pretty good if you like strong cheese. Beef selection was pretty good too for a smaller wine place. Overall good experience.

A great place with prices that match the food. The Halibut was outstanding. Done perfectly with a fantastic pineapple glaze. Other items ordered at the table were equally good. Will I go back? My family and I visited around 8pm on a Saturday night. It wasn't crowded and we sat down right away at a table on the front patio. The crab chowder and all of our other entrees were very good. However, the service was terrible. Server was slow, forgetful, not knowledgeable about the menu and unpersonable. This could be a very good restaurant but they must improve the service experience. Also, outdoor lighting would have helped so we could see what we were eating!

Livy O.'s review is spot on. We were a group of six, and they definitely took us for granted, with poor service, and I mean poor. But hey, what they heck, they get to charge an automatic tip surcharge since we were a group. The food was just average. There are so many other qualified restaurants to prepare and serve good food, one should go there instead. This is a glorified bar with elevated pub food.

The food was expertly prepared. Absolutely delicious, if a bit steeply priced. The crispy-skinned duck breast was extremely tender and not at all heavy or greasy. Hot pot was full of perfectly cooked sea scallops - not an easy task! - as well as a generous helping of clams and lots of great chunks of langoustine. The place was really hopping, especially for a Sunday late evening, which meant the two servers were a little over-taxed and service was a bit slow. The real star, though, was the flan. Creamy and just sweet enough, the texture and flavor were exquisite; I will be thinking fondly of that flan for a long time to come!

Can't tell you how the food was, because I was never served. They weren't busy. Waited 5 minutes to be seated, was then shown to a table. Waitress said "don't worry, I'll find you", but she was never seen again. I waited 10 minutes, with no menu or water and left. Won't be back.

AWFUL SERVICE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. Clearly the Spokane location is under different management. Was told the manager was to busy to come talk to us about an order mess up and our hour and a half wait. Waiter told me I had to go back to the kitchen to talk to him and before I said anything the manager told me I didn't know anything about running a restaurant. Perhaps I don't, but I do know that this place can't figure out how to get you your food in less than an hour and the place wasn't even half full. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!

Italian influenced menu with mostly handmade offerings. The wait staff are friendly and provide good service without much intrusion. The signature salad was tasty and well seasoned. I had the seafood pappardelle which had generous servings of lobster, scallops, and shrimp -- a light lemon butter sauce brought everything together. I think the addition of some bread would be a nice touch to an otherwise delightful dinner. The Cabernet by the glass was easy on the palate -- not a RP 90+, but enjoyable. The ambience as warm and quiet. I enjoyed the meal and recommend the restaurant.

The food tonight was excellent. The duck was outstanding. The service was very slow and the red bottle of wine was actually HOT. We asked them to put it on ice for 8 minutes, but that didn't happen. We requested a cheese plate for dessert and it was superb. I would go back but watch the service. Sorry it disappointed.

We would definitely eat here again. We stopped in around 9pm on a Thursday and basically had the restaurant to ourselves. The decor and ambience are nice. We love wine and good food and they had both. The server was sweet but unfortunately did not know anything about the wine list and did not pour our wine after dropping the bottle at the table - and they did not have someone there that could discuss wine suggestions but we understandably arrived near closing so it was no big deal. We were able to order a couple nice bottles that we were familiar with. The scallops were a bit small and over cooked but had a nice flavor and vegetables complimenting the dish. The squash ravioli was really good although in a big bowl of tasty cream sauce and the seafood cioppino style hot pot was fantastic. We asked for bread and the left over cream sauce and cioppino went amazingly with the filo-style buttery breadsticks that the server provided. All in all, it was a wonderful dining experience and we would visit again next time we are in Coeur D'Alene.

The food here is actually very good....I had the Signature Salad, my husband had the California Wrap and our daughter loved her pasta dish. Sadly the service was painfully slow. If the place had been hopping busy I would understand what took so long to get our meal, but there were only five tables or so....In any case we will probably try someplace else on our next trip to CDA.

As I was catching up on writing reviews my wife came in and asked me which one I was writing. When I told her "Scratch" her comment was, "Of all the restaurants we have visited, Scratch was the best Coeur d'Alene one that I (she) would return to". I told her that her comment would be the first sentence. We only had a lunch here and it was excellent in all respects. The decor is modern clean with lots of small tables. It hit me that this was certainly a great date place where a couple could chat and get to know each other while sipping from an excellent wine list and savoring their many interesting menu items. I had a grilled cheese sandwich was over the top with four cheeses and was HUGE. Half of it went home with me. The salad was a wonderful concoction of mixed greens, dried cranberries, candied walnuts, apple slices and strips of brie cheese. Wife had soup, salad and half a grilled cheese and that size seemed just right. Yea, yea, it was a "cheezy" meal. Ho, ho, ho. Our server, Daniel, did everything right, knowing the menu and his wines. I was on the fence with some wine choices, so Daniel brought be samples, which I think is a terrific thing to do. What a nice courtesy. Prices were not outrageous and we will certainly be back to do a dinner or two. I think it would be quite lively and lovely at night, given the candles and small can lighting. Muy romantico. Women will like it as well as the guys. Can also see small groups of women and men having their nights out in this safe comfortable place.

I've been here twice and both times the food was tasty but unmemorable. For me, a great meal has me longing to return to the restaurant, and while the food at Scratch is good quality, it just hasn't dug its claws into me. Because of the location (right on the main drag in downtown CDA), I'm sure I'll come back here with out of town guests because the menu is a crowd pleaser (essentially American Bistro style food - paninis, salads, etc) but it's not somewhere I'd go back to on my own when I feel like treating myself. UPDATE: OK, I came back and had a sirloin French Dip made with a freshly baked hoagie and it was sooo super yummy, I had to upgrade my review!

We spent almost a week in C'dA and we did not have a single bad meal and only one mediocre meal. Scratch was another great dining experience. We were a party of 3 couples. We had finished a day of golf and were in need of a nice, casual place. Scratch fit the bill. It was just a few block from our resort so it was an easy walk. It was a weeknight and the place was fairly empty. What ensued was more like a party than a dinner function! The menu has a lot of eclectic things. I was intrigued by their Duck Wraps. So, I decided to 'graze' making up a meal of small items. I started with Crap Chowder and it was excellent. It could have been a little hotter but it was so good I did not want to send it back to be reheated. Then I had the Duck Wraps and it was pretty large. It was good and very tasty but very heard to eat (messy). I had also ordered Steamed Clams but the portion was so large, I could not come close to finishing it. My wife had the Grilled Salmon and she said it was excellent. The other 3 couples also liked what they had and we were all having a wonderful time - eating, laughing, chatting, joking, drinking, etc. I had a Blue Moon and my wife had a glass of Pinot Noir, Our bill for all of this came to $60. It was a bargain for such a great and fun dining experience! And, the service was warm, friendly and efficient! Jim

I would give this 5 stars if the service was not so incredibly heinous!!! We were ignored for at least fifteen minutes before we got water. Also when I kindly alerted my waitress that we were in a hurry, she told us we should eat somewhere else then if we were in a hurry! Also, there were only three other two-tops in the whole place! Very disappointing. The food, however was very rich and very tasty. It just sucks that it was marred by such a careless, flagrant lady.

I try not to give a lot of 5 star reviews...this is my second time here and I have to say I have been extremely impressed both times. First of all, if you haven't figured it out from the name, everything here is made from scratch, right on the premisis. So if you have allergies or dietary concerns, they know what is in the food, can make substitutions/recommendations for you. The first time I came here with friends and I had the quail, one of them had the rabbit and the other had the duck. Everything was amazing. We all sampled a bite from each others plate and yeah..it was good. Our waiter was great with excellent recommendations for beers and wines to accompany our meals..absolutely fabulous. The second time I came, I ordered the rabbit and to be honest...I wasn't impressed with it this time. However, the amazing waitstaff came straight to the rescue. She immediately saw that I wasn't happy and asked what was wrong. I explained that the rabbit was a little tough and she immediately went back to the cook...apparently they hadn't been able to braise it because of time issues..so they immediately took the rabbit away and asked if I would like to try a different dish...the waitress recommended the Duck..so I went with the duck. Excellent recommendation, it was tender and tasted amazing. This is the kind of above and beyond type of service that will keep me coming back to Scratch everytime I come to Coeur D'alene.

This is an update to my previous review. My family went out to Scratch for a birthday celebration on Valentines Day. We had a party of 8, and the place was packed. The service was well paced, very friendly and accommodating. We were neither rushed, nor forgotten, and the server was knowledgeable of the entrees and had a nice salad made for my daughter that wasn't on the menu. The menu was larger than I recall from my last visit and was comprehensive. We had everything ranging from steak and lamb chops to seafood and pasta dishes and two kids meals. The meals were delicious and presented well. My only complaint was that my son's burger was a little under done, but I wasn't concerned enough to send it back. The prices were reasonable for one of the "better" restaurants in the area, and they have a good wine selection.

Came in for a late lunch. Menu looked good. Had the sirloin burger. Was very dry and well done. Sweet potatoes frys were great. CA chicken wrap was ok. The crab chowder sounded great but turned out to be watery, bland, and loaded with potatoes. Ice tea was good. Service was slow, especially for only having 3 tables with people. Keep looking!

One of the worst restaurants I've ever been too!! Dirty floors, most likely from the night before since we were there early on a Sunday. The food was awful. The Caesar salad was served with many brown pieces if romaine & contained a large amounts of the lettuce core. My crab chowder was served without a spoon & by the time the waitress brought my spoon, the chowder was cold, it was still a very delicious chowder even cold & the only enjoyable thing about my dining experience. The service was terrible, despite the lack of customers. The burger my husband ordered was delivered with the wrong side item. The waitress took the burger back to the kitchen & placed it on a small saucer type plate & we then waited for his salad to be served, which also contained brown & withered lettuce. To add additional insult to the poor tasting food, the waitress spilled ice & water all over the table & my lap, did not bring a napkin or towel or even offer to clean it up AND my credit card receipt was delivered with a pen that contained no ink. Don't be fooled by the appearance of this place! It is most definitely deceiving & you will be disappointed you did!

Driving on our way home to Seattle we stayed overnight in CDA & were very happy we tried Scratch. We had great service and everything from appetizer to dessert was fantastic! We tried their duck wraps which weren't exactly what I expected. I was thinking it would be a stir fried or shredded/chopped duck meat (like PF Chang's) but it was more of a stew. A little trickier to wrap but it was deliciously seasoned to perfection - a little kick to it. For dinner, hubby had the hot pot - like a Cioppino & they didn't skimp on the seafood. He loved it & said it rivaled the Cioppino from San Fran - his standard of measurement for any tomato based seafood stew. I opted to try the Osso Bucco which was cooked perfectly, accompanied with garlic mashed & grilled asparagus. Great meal! We weren't planning on dessert but after glancing thru the dessert choices we opted to share the cheesecake - wonderful choice! They put a little chÃ¨vre (aka goat cheese) in the cake & my hubby is no fan of goat cheese but he was a trooper to give it a shot! It was amazing! The chÃ¨vre seems to cut the richness of the cheesecake so it didn't seem too heavy although it is dense. We were tempted to take some home to Seattle. They have a reasonable corkage if you're interested in bringing wine, we didn't but if we're ever in the area again we definitely would. We're already trying to figure out an excuse to come back to the area so we can eat here again!

We've been here twice. The first time was quite good with good friendly service. But when we returned later in the week, things had changed. The food was about the same, but service was terrible. The food took a very long time to get to our table and then the waitress never checked back with us at all, and I had to track her down in the kitchen to pay our bill. This was despite the fact that by the time we left (late), there was only one other table full. I don't think we will return. I agree with the other reviewer. It was as though it was this girl's first day or something. She made very little efforft to be a good waitress and didn't even know how to explain one of the dishes. There are certainly better restaurants in Coeur d'Alene.

Locals hope Scratch will survive, cause really fine restaurants in CDA are hard to find. The decor is all black and white, which they pulled of very well. Server was pleasant and knew the menu. She could have been more familiar with the wines. Wed. nights, all but the premium bottles of wine are half off. We had a bottle of Rambauer for $30, $2 less than retail. We had an appetizer of duck breast cube lettuce wraps -- excellent. I had a Caesar salad which could have had a little more anchovy added for more flavor, otherwise is was good. The seafood stew looked good, smelled great, but was packed with potato and onion as filler and not a lot of seafood. The tomato sauce it was cooked in was outstanding. For $26 I felt ripped off on this one -- I mean really, it was mostly potatoes and onions. Food cost on this item was probably 10%. From a taste of one of our companions steak, I should have had that instead of the seafood stew. His steak was cooked perfectly, tender, and the sauce was very good. Don't go here if you are in a hurray as the service is slow. We weren't in a rush so didn't mind.

Holy WOW! I was on my way to Glacier MT from Spokane WA and this city seemed so beautiful so we stopped here. I checked all the yelp reviews and this place had very good ratings so I was curious. I ordered the grown up grilled cheese and was instantly amazed. You MUST try the crab chowder it is so good I can't explain. They have so many different choices ranging from gourmet food to wine. This is a must do!

Went there around 5pm to get some appetizers and some wine. Stood at the door for five minutes and waited for the waitress to bus the one dirty table for us to sit at (the restaurant was completely empty besides one two top, and we told her that we had no preference of where we sat and she chose to put us at the one dirty table in the restaurant.. odd?). We then waited at the table for three more minutes waiting for a drink menu. Another couple came after us and were sat right away and received a drink menu. She came with waters a few minutes later and we asked for a drink menu. She then took the other table who came after us drink and appetizer order and we just sat there waiting.. After ten more minutes of her in the back doing who knows what, we walked out. I've NEVER walked out of a restaurant (don't worry, we didn't have a tab as we could not get served) and worked in the service industry for nine years so feel like I'm really understanding and lenient. If they were busy I would've definitely understood but there were 7 people in the entire place including us! Big bummer.

Where do I begin? We were driving to Penticton, British Columbia and Coeur d'Alene was the perfect stopping point for lunch. I found Scratch with my Yelp app... we drove around a bit and ended up stopping here. I'm so glad we did! We sat out on the patio in a hot CdA day. At least we had some partial shade. It's a great place to people watch. A lovely surprise are the little croissant breadsticks as a pre-meal warm-up. Yum yum! Waitress, you only brought one for each of us. I could have eaten a huge pile of these delectable, flaky, melt-in-your-mouth pieces of Heaven. They were so buttery and rich. I think they were sprinkled with parmesan, herbs, and then drizzled (doused) with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Sooooo good! For my meal, I ordered the salmon BLT. Big piece of salmon with 2 strips of crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato, and aioli, I believe. It came with a side of sweet potato fries. I LOVE sweet potato fries. I will pick them over regular fries anyday! These were a tad on the overcooked side, but were still delicious. My only complaint about the sandwich was the thickness of the bread. I ended up eating my sandwich open-faced so that I could leave half the bread. I also knew i had to save room for cupcakes from Sweet B. My husband ordered the half rack of ribs with coleslaw and fries, I think. He enjoyed his meal. I didn't see anything left on the plate (other than the bones). I think that's a good sign. Overall, great restaurant! If we're ever back in CdA, I would definitely eat here again. Keep it up, Scratch!

Our first experience at this restaurant was quite impressive. We started out with calamari for an appetizer. The seasonings perfectly complemented the three dipping sauces served with it. Our entrees were even more amazing! And to top it all off they participate in the Passport Unlimited--this means subscribers get a complimentary second entree. Wow!

Went to dinner here, and had the Lamb Osso Bucco, which is oven wine braised lamb, and let me tell you, it was delicious. The service was par, and I felt a little cheated that they only had items like homemade ice cream, and fudge brownies for dessert; I felt that with a main dish like that, they should have been a little more elegant. We are new in CDA and are trying local restaurants. We went to lunch at Scratch, and it was really good. There was only one waitress, so it was a 'leisurely' lunch, but she did a good job. I think they could have used 1 more person. She was doing everything. My mom had the 1/2 ribs. They were a little dry but very meaty. The french fries are great. I had the salmon and it was cooked beautifully. My husband had the hamburger with bacon and cheddar and he really liked it. For dessert we had the brownie sundae. It was awesome, best brownie we'd ever had in a dessert. It's fairly pricey, but the food was good and we'll be going back.

First off, I've NEVER been here for dinner. I'm in town for two months and my temporary office is nearby, so I've been here over half a dozen times for lunch. So their evening menu, and prep, could be entirely different from what I'm reviewing. Second, their wait staff is always exceptional, IMO. They're very attentive, and after only the second time some members of the staff new where I liked to sit and what I had previously ordered. Anyway, as far as their lunches go, I think this is a pretty good restaurant, hampered by extremely inconsistent execution. I've had meals there that were very good, and meals there that were pretty bad. First, the good: I've had their lunch hot pot once (it's pretty pricey, I think 18 bones), but it is *quite* good. The sauce/base/stock/whatever you want to call it is nicely spicey (nothing major that would turn most people off, but it does have some bite) and the scallops in it were quite large, very sweet, and perfectly cooked. These might be, and are at least very close to, the best diver scallops I've ever had. The crab chowder is very good. I've had it at least 5 or 6 times. Once or twice it was definitely on the salty side, but it was still darn good. You wouldn't think something as formulaic as a soup could suffer from inconsistent seasoning, but, there it is. And, inevitably, we come to the bad: EXECUTION. Out of the 8 or 10 meals I've had here, always ordering something different, I can't fault them on their flavors or their ingredients, but their execution is TERRIBLY inconsistent. I'm just going to number all their transgressions to make it easier: 1. My grown up grilled cheese tasted great, but the very middle was stone cold and the bread could have been crispier. I wouldn't have complained about the bread on its own, but the combination of the two just indicated plain undercooked. 2. Calamari. I love calamari. I get it at every restaurant that has it, and it's the first thing I judge about a restaurant. If you have calamari, and it sucks, you're not likely to get a good overall review from me. The sauces that came with their calamari = good. I hate restaurants that only provide a marinara sauce. They had three, and they were all good and gave a nice variety of flavors. BUT, the breading on the calamri was VERY underdone. It was a soggy mess, to be quite honest. A week or so later, after I had my wet, floppy calamari, I noticed someone at a table nearby getting the calamari and it was SOOOO much darker/browner than mine, it was ridiculous. Mine was BARELY golden, theirs was a medium dark brown. I bet their calamari was crispy and great. Mine wasn't. 3. They served raw chicken to a 6 year old at a table next to me. The chicken fingers on the kids menu. The outer 1/4" of each strip was cooked, the inside was completely raw. Unforgiveable.

Passing thru and stopped in for lunch. Greeted by flavorful food, courteous staff, and quiet ambiance. I had a cup of crab chowder and the ahi poke from the appetizer menu. The chowder was thick and buttery with shredded crab. It was served with a black sesame cracker that complimented it perfectly. The ahi was served with a delicious shredded broccoli slaw, and a lightly pickled zucchini and onion salad. The ahi was marinated in a soy ginger sauce that gave a wonderful flavor on it's own, however there was also a spicy, creamy sauce on the side that enhanced the flavor even more. I ordered dessert to go: cheesecake. Not your average cheesecake here. This bit of lucious-heaven is made with chÃ¨vre and topped with macerated berries and Chantilly cream. OMG! Amazing. The foody experience was a pleasant one in Coeur d'Alene, thanks to Scratch Restaurant.

This was our first time to Coeur d'Alene. I'm on a restricted food program right now and finding a restaurant that will accommodate my needs is challenging. After looking at the menus of a couple of restaurants along Sherman Avenue, we arrived at Scratch. I asked to see a menu, and the host, Gabriel Cruz, could not have been more pleasant and helpful. He assured me that there were several items on the menu that were gluten- and dairy-free. I had the incredibly delicious tomato basil bisque with a coconut milk base and the chicken wrap without the wrap. My husband had the turkey panini and fries. We were so impressed with the freshness and quality of the food, we went back for dinner. Although we made our reservation for 6 p.m. because we had to leave at for a play at 7:30, I later discovered that the play actually began at 7:30. We arrived at the restaurant before our 6 p.m. reservation, explained our situation, and our waitress had no problem with our time constraints. I had the soup again and scallop starter and my husband had the fish of the day plate which consisted of monk fish and shrimp. Both meals were excellent. We would definitely go back again the next time we're in CDA.

My husband and I went to Scratch for our anniversary dinner. The prices were a bit higher than we had expected, and in the evening and at night, the lights give the place a very "Red Light District" feel. We ate outside because it was SO red. The food I got was quite good, though incorrect. I had ordered the ribeye steak with the mashed potatoes, and got the sides for their other steak. When we got our food, it was quite dark, and there was no lighting, so I wasn't able to see it shy of taking a picture with my phone, and I'm not incredibly educated on the different types of steak, so I'm not sure if I got the ribeye or not. Whatever it was, it was very good. My husband got the seafood platter, and he quite enjoyed it. The waiter was friendly as well, and fairly attentive.

My fiance and I first came to scratch a couple months ago. I ordered the California Chicken wrap and it was delicious. However it wasn't anything amazing so I didn't really think much of it. I went there again today with some friends and ordered the bruschetta to share and a Prime Rib French Dip. The bruschetta was absolutely amazing. I strongly dislike tomatoes unless it's in pico de gallo, salsa, or pasta sauce but I couldn't get enough of the tomatoes to put on top of the bruschetta. It's something I would definitely suggest as an appetizer. the Prime Rib Dip was the best I've ever had. The prime rib was extremely tender and piled atop the baguette with onion and red pepper I believe. It was extremely messy and tried to fall apart on me but it was absolute heaven paired with the au jus. I got the signature salad as my side and that was also amazing. The combination of ingredients and the sauce just made it the perfect side dish. The service we had today was superb. the waiter was extremely friendly, was on top of our water refills, and was just the ideal example of how servers should be. The next time I am in Couer D'Alene I will most definitely go here again.

We have enjoyed Scratch in Spokane but our first visit to Scratch CDA was less than enjoyable. The dinning room was hot and musty/stale smelling. The food was really just average American bistro fare. Service was poor. Staff stood around complaining how slow it was. Always enjoy listening to staff bitch about their jobs. CDA has a lot of good places to eat so it will be awhile before I return to Scratch CDA.

We had dinner with some friends here over the weekend. Overall, we liked Scratch. The new menu which made its debut last week is impressive, they offer a wide variety of delicious sounding dishes. It's almost too much and makes one wonder how they can pull it all off. There's a nice selection of wines too. Our meals were good, Ahi tuna was cooked perfectly, the noodles it was served with were over seasoned with green onions. The sirloin steak was cooked as ordered and the accompanying asparagus and potatoes were very good. They started us with some complimentary freshly made breadsticks with olive oil and balsamic, it was a nice touch. Service was good, he had a little hiccup with some spilled wine and water but in the end all was well. I'd certainly go back again.

My wife and I were looking for a place to go out on a date when we were in CDA. We heard good things about Scratch and the menu looked good so we decided to give it a try. We sat outside. We were surprised at how much traffic noise there was. We started with a salad and calamari. Both were okay but nothing to get excited about. In fact, the sauces that came with the calamari were just boring and almost flavorless. The best part of the meal was the Halibut (which was on special); we would definitely order that again. But the service was bad (took five minutes to be greeted by our server and another five minutes for drinks... and there was only one other table in the restaurant and then the server never picked up the menu from the table...). Not sure if we would come back.

This little surprise of a place was received very well by my hungry family of five after we spent the morning hiking. We were thrilled to find a restaurant with all natural and fresh ingredients (everything made from "scratch". While we were just there for lunch, I would love to go back sometime for the dinner menu. The "grown up grilled cheese" was a huge hit with my teen as she couldn't get over the combination of the multiple cheeses melted together. My husband's salmon and salad was talked about for the rest of the afternoon. The Caesar and the crab cakes were just right. I'm very picky when it comes to Caesar dressing but this one wasn't too creamy or overpowering. The service could have been a little bit quicker, but we didn't mind too much as we were all enjoying the rest from the hike.

The last time I was there however, my salad was soggy, the bread for the bruchetta was burnt, and my chicken was dry and also a bit on the burnt side. I will go back, but would really like to see some consistency for the price you pay.

Everything tasted like it was made from scratch! Haha...get it? Made from Scratch? So anyway, I was in Coeur d' Alene visiting my best friend, and we happened upon Scratch. Oh man. It was delicious. Eat This: Scratch Signature Salad Grown Up Grilled Cheese Although everything looked amazing, and if I had the cash and the available space on my body, I would have ordered more! I don't know when I'll come back to Idaho, but I will definitely return to this restaurant when I do!

You've found it...the lamb pops were divine, closely followed by the baked brie with apples. Sadly we weren't hungry enough for anything else...other than donuts with huckleberry sauce...yum.

I really really wanted to be able to give Scratch more stars. The ambiance in the restaurant was wonderful, the service was great, the wine was yummy! But there were a couple of issues... Starting with the Crispy Duck Lettuce Wraps, I've never had duck before but it was a bit dry, luckily the sauce was fantastic. Lettuce wraps are messy, but they could have given us lettuce pieces did not have LARGE holes in the middle of each piece. Both my husband and I had a cup of the Crab Chowder, which I loved! I thought the flavors were mild and even though the consistency was thin everything worked perfectly together. Then came the entrees - I mistakenly ordered the Scratch Hot Pot, and it was inedible. Granted it is called a Hot Pot, I wasn't exactly expecting it be this HOT - both too spicy and literally too hot, I burned my mouth on a potato after it had been sitting for over 10 minutes. The prawns were so over cooked they were like rubber, probably due the sauce being so hot. We took it home and ended up just throwing away the leftovers. One good thing about it, the andouille was very good (and less spicy than the sauce). My husband made the smart choice and ordered a steak. The demi glaze and blue cheese on it were delicious and it was cooked a little bit more than medium rare - perfect! So, the food was hit and miss, but what cemented the three stars for me was the Ladies room. It was floor was VERY dirty, I had to replace the toilet paper myself, the stall walls and doors were a mess. Spend a little money and fix up the bathroom please!!! After my entree and the bathroom, I was in no mood to try their desserts so we went somewhere else for dessert.

AWFUL experience! They were out of 2 different entrees, one of our steaks was well done instead of medium rare, the server snatched up the plate without any apologizes, actually took the steak back to the kitchen, someone cut into the middle of the steak & the server brought it back out and ARGUED with our friend about the fact that the middle was closer to medium rare ( it was barely pink) & showed it to the table. My friend was offered another steak & it came out beyond raw, bloody pink translucent in the middle. That was obviously the kitchen saying "screw you". Our server then avoided our table until we had to get up & ask for our tab. I will never visit another Scratch again.

Ugh. Walked in after previewing on Yelp. Ordered our food, but in the meantime the family at the table next to us food arrived and the smell was absolutely awful. I asked the gentleman what was up and he said the the meat was spoiled. As I was walking out (due to the smell) he was sending it back. I think they walked out shortly after we did. Too bad, until this point in the evening I was looking forward to my meal.

Why we continue to give this HORRIBLE restaurant a shot is beyond me. We tried yet again last night as the online menu looked great. We attempted to order a bottle of champagne that they were "out of." Then we were told they were "out of" the fig pizza appetizer we ordered. Long story short...3 of the bottles of wine we tried to order they didn't have. The 2 apps and 3 entrees we had were all AWFUL. Particularly the rabbit which tasted as if it had been cooked and recooked. It was tough and inedible.The vegetables and potatoes served with it tasted like they were rotten and then scorched and totally burned. The service was only so-so and after giving this restaurant 3 chances we will definitely NEVER be back. I can't believe this restaurant has such a high rating. Don't be duped by the good reviews or yummy looking menu. It's all a facade.

The chicken for my wifes grilled chicken salad was as dry as they come. My chicken pesto pasta was really good. My son had ribsand fries for $8 and it was the best of all! Table of 12 people and 9 had stomach aches and "issues" all night after eating here. I had ravioli and was fine but for the price, they should not be giving people stomach problems at all! Pricey and on the nicer side compare to the other places downtown but definitely a place to skip this trip.

I went there for lunch early on a Tuesday afternoon. A beautiful day in Cda, Idaho. I was by myself and sat outside. The service was good, the right amount of attention without being over bearing and a decent knowledge of the menu. The beer selection is a little disappointing. Nothing on tap and no local beers. All the good small breweries around, even in neighboring Washington and Montana and most of the selections could have been found on menus across the country. A little disappointed in that but finally settled on an Alaskan Amber. Unfortunately, the waitress poured the bottle into a glass and brought me only the glass (no bottle) without asking. For lunch I had a bowl of the soup of the day which was a chicken artichoke. A delicious cream based soup with roasted peppers, chunks of chicken and artichokes. That was my "side" with my panini, which was the Grownup Grilled Cheese. Wow! Very good. A sophisticated version of the classic with a variety of different cheeses . As I was paying my bill, I heard the waiter tell the table next to me, they were out of the Grownup Grilled cheeses. Huh? It was 1:00 in the afternoon. There were 6 tables occupied. How many could they have sold already? Are they pre-made. Not my problem as I had mine and loved it, but thought it was a little odd. Bottom line - Go to Scratch.

We came upon Scratch by lucky accident during a brief stop in Coeur d'Alene on the way north. The food was outstanding. As per the name of the restaurant, everything is made from scratch. The chicken caesar had the best caesar dressing I have ever tasted and was loaded with anchovies per my request. One friend's wild salmon was an incredible preparation, and our other friend's grown up grilled cheese was just that. Delicious food, great, attentive, but not overwhelming service, made this the highlight meal of a two-week trip. Not overpriced given the quality of the food.

Although I have been using Yelp for a while to read reviews for a good place to eat while I'm traveling, it wasn't until visiting Scratch that I felt an obligation to my fellow Yelpers to leave a review. WOW!!! I can't remember the last time that I left a restaurant feeling that EVERYTHING was excellent...truly EVERYTHING!!! I had a ribeye steak that was cooked to perfection (a truly cooked Medium-rare) that came with perfectly seasoned red potatoes and asparagus. I'm usually not a veggie guy, but they were fabulous. My wife had the mushroom stuffed ravioli that was simply to die for. In the hour or so that we were there, we couldn't help but overhear everybody ranting and raving about how great their food was. Someone said their calamari was the best calamari they have ever had in their life and another said that his generous portion of ribs were fantastic. Our waiter (I think his name was Andy) went above and beyond the entire evening. He told us that everything in the restaurant was made from scratch and was very knowledgeable of the menu. He told us upfront that their desert were also delicious and made from scratch, so we went with the Creme Brulee. It was everything we expected and some. Our waiter overheard us debating between the Creme Brulee and the Huckleberry ice cream, so he was nice enough to add a generous sample of ice cream for our enjoyment. Overall, a fabulous experience from beginning to end! They also have an extensive wine list and we found out that most bottles are half price on Wednesdays. Next time I'm in Coeur D'alene, I will definitely stop by Scratch!!!

Stopped here during our vacation trip to Yellowstone. Food was good and prices were reasonable. Restaurant was not crowded but it took about 10 minutes for them to setup a table for our group. I really do hope this place survives! It is my favorite in CdA at the moment. A few things will need to change though; the prices are high and the service is hit or miss. They have improved but it needs more work. Love the fact that they use local, sustainable, organic whenever possible. Also, half-price bottles of wine on Tuesdays make a meal out more affordable. Not liking the name aside (evokes a skin condition or wet dog), I highly recommend them. Very high quality food, responsible business practices, good salads (so hard to find around here) and decent wine list. The name is not as bad as the iPad though - LOL- worst name ever given to a gadget and don't even get me started on what that name evokes! I desperately want one though :)

Because of Yelp reviews I went to Scratch. I did carry out and previewed the menu online. When I called to place my order, I found out that you can't believe what you see online. For some reason the online menu combines both the Spokane and Coeur d'Alene locations. If you happen to want the halibut cheeks, you have to go to Spokane not Coeur d'Alene..... Grrrrrr !! I was soooooo looking forward to the cheeks !! I should have abandoned this attempt at carry out and went someplace else where I could get my 1st choice of entree. I decided to try the Copper River Salmon with rice and asparagus. EVERYBODY raves about Copper River Salmon and this was my 1st opportunity to try it. The salmon was prepared properly, but I fail to recognize the hype. I can say that it barely had any of that fishy aftertaste, so maybe that's the attraction. I won't be setting a reminder on my calendar for Copper River Season next year. The Black Rice and Asparaguswere good. The $6.00 bag of cinn/sugar donuts were like dense golf balls - I did not enjoy these at all and they certainly weren't worth $6 bucks. 1 Star for the donuts, 3 stars for the 'ok' salmon.

As is typical with new restaurants this needs sorting out. We had a waiter that hardly ever checked on my wife and I and we had to ask for things twice. For these prices we should have nothing less than professional servers. Who wants to spend $100 for dinner for two and have to ask twice for a bottle of sparkling water and that's after being ignored for half an hour? C'mon it's a tiny restaurant! The kitchen rocks though so let's hope they sort the service out soon!

We were told when visiting Couer d'Alene to visit old downtown and just walk around to pick a restaurant. After dismissing the chain restaurants and bar and grills I saw the beacon of light that was Scratch! As others have said the salmon was great - my wife got it with asparagus and black rice. I got the fish tacos, ahi tuna was the fresh fish offered for them with the Scratch Signature side salad - spinach, walnuts, bacon and apple slices - amazing! The salmon was a good meal for a light eater, I was pleasantly surprised with the fish taco portion size - not overwhelming, just enough to fill up on when very hungry, which I was.

Scratch was a gamble I think. Not eating there, that was a pleasant enough experience. But putting a branch of a successful downtown Spokane restaurant into downtown CdA without changing the menu or the pricing is expecting too much I think. Downtown CdA is thriving, that is for sure, but not on Scratch alone. I personally think that the portions of the food are a bit too small for the pricing in a small town such as this (but not for Spokane, with quite a larger population). Having not eaten at the Spokane branch for a while, I wasn't sure what to expect. The service was well dressed and friendly, but I seemed to be their only customer on a Thursday early evening and was a little over attended to. I ordered a salad to start, which tasted old, and the hummus platter. I absolutely love hummus but was fairly disappointed with their iteration of it, not enough spice, kind of beany and bland. Their seafood chowder was good enough. But what really got me was the Mushroom Ravioli. It was AMAZING! The broth and sauce over it was rich and delicious and the ravioli perfectly cooked. This dish really reminded me of why it was so successful in Spokane. And I would love to eat there again.... if only you got a little more for the price you pay. With a little tweaking I think it would fit perfectly downtown. But with less than a quarter of the main dinner menu under $20, we will have to see.

After spending two days in Montana, we were headed for Spokane, both to spend the night and to meet up with one of my wife's college roommates. We weren't completely certain when we were supposed to arrive, so it being about 2 and our tummies getting to the point of "well, we could wait a little while, but if this person drags us on a walk or something sans food, it could get ugly", the decision was made to turn off of I-90 in this resort-like town, one I had certainly heard of, but knew next to nothing about. First comment: Man, what a lake - must be one of the crowning jewels of Northern Idaho - I'd been to Boise, but the uppermost regions of the state must be amongst the most pristine of the United States. I guess it's not too surprising they're also included in the most isolated. Second comment: Coeur D'alene: Apparently it really is pronounced as "Core Dee Lane", so I didn't retroactively feel stupid saying it as such. Granted we only drove through the town, but it really does make good use of the lake as its focus point. Anyway, we looked in the downtown district for someplace to stop, found a parking spot in front of Scratch, and figured why not. We walk in and realize it's one of these restaurants for which giving directions as to what to do for prospective patrons is not a priority. We stood for a minute, then were directed to sit down at a table that had not been cleared, nor was there any silverware available for use. The meal itself was fine - I think in of itself it would have earned the joint four stars. But the lack of decent service is enough to knock it down. It wasn't so much that the staff was rude - they were pleasant enough, but we just didn't see very much of them. We had to ask for silverware after our food was served. For the only time on our two week roadtrip, or in fact, in recent memory, we actually had to hunt down a server in order for us to get the bill and move on with our lives.

It took forever to get silverware let alone a burger and tortellini dish. And when we were finished, my husband had to hunt down the waiter for our bill. And even then, he wasn't ready to check us out. It took another few minutes for that transaction. It's too bad because the food was decent.

Stopped in after hiking Mineral Ridge for a late breakfast. I had the Basil, Spinach and Goat Cheese Omelet, which was excellent. Perfectly cooked and tons of fresh spinach. Asked for bacon, crispy - which came out perfect as well. My friend loved the Eggs Benedict that she ordered. Will definitely go back to try their happy hour, which starts at 2:30!

I had long ago, written Scratch off, after many experiences, as a place I wouldn't return to, due to inconsistency in both the service and the food. However, about a month ago, we went for breakfast and we have returned every weekend since. I do think that they under staff, with the servers, but the two waitresses that work there now, at least seem to care and try their best to cover everything. And the breakfasts have been delicious. The Frosted Flake French Toast, is incredible...not too sweet and made with a chewy, hearty, sliced baguette and served with fresh jam and chantilly cream, it really hits the spot, with a side of savory sausage! I plan to work my way through the menu. Breakfast has been so good lately, that it has me actually considering giving it another shot for dinner.

This was a great restaurant! We were driving through, and decided to try it. The sweet potato fries and CALAMARi was ah-mazing! Great service as well, our waiter was great! I wanted to live there so I could eat their calamari every day.

Great dining experience. Good food at decent prices but what blew us away was the service. We were 8 people and 3 dogs and they were able to accommodate us on the patio with 2 separate tables and our pooches with us. The waitress was fabulous, knew the menu and the drinks, and if we find ourselves in Coeur d'Alene again we would return.

Personally I had the salmon and it was fantastic. The garlic mashed potatoes that came with were great as well, as were the Brussel sprouts. Another member of our party had the crab ravioli. Another member of our party had the ahi tuna and loved it. Two others shared the crab ravioli and one liked it, one did not. It did seem like a rather small portion for the price. The crab chowder was delicious, truly excellent, as was the signature salad. In addition the penne with meatballs was very good, and the bread that came with it was great. A good restaurant for CdA.
